Circular swap questions and answers

So it has come to my attention that I don't have one of these lists! Time to fix that. This post is a mishmash of questions pulled from various places and questionnaires.   Describe three things decorating your bed room/living space Bookcases, cat toys, and IKEA Helmers. Decorating is more than a little beyond me.   How do you feel about nail polish? Funny you should mention nail polish. The aforementioned Helmers? Are specifically for nail polish! Love it as long as it's a non-traditional color/finish like blue, green, glitter, holo, duochrome, etc. I don't wear pinks, reds, corals, nudes, or pretty much any other traditional, safe colors, and I'm not big on creams. I *loved* Urban Decay's early stuff!   Do you have any crafty hobbies where you might be able to use little related goodies? (beads, yarn, etc.) I occasionally (like once every two or three years) crochet scarves. I would love to learn how to knit, but other than that, I stopped doing my crafty hobbies a few years ago when my wrists were having problems even though they're doing better nowadays.   Collections? Black cats, bats, skulls, and rats. These are all year-round and everything (notepads, coffee mugs, stickers, whatever) loves. I'm also starting to collect robot magnets so I can have a ROBOT MAGNET ARMY on my fridge. So far, I have one.   Candles! Yea? Nay? Tarts? Neither. Open flames + my monsters = SINGED KITTY FACES. And smelling like burning.   Who's up for baking? No, thank you. I have a weird Thing with baked goods: Whether they're homemade or store-bought, they just sit there and never get eaten unless I take them to work and give them to coworkers. I have unopened Girl Scout cookies from last year.   Books! Physical or ebook, and anything in particular that you're looking for? Either! I don't have a Nook/Kindle, but I have an iPhone with a Kindle reader. I love left-leaning political books (Matt Taiibi! *swoon*), mysteries (I keep meaning to pick up some Chelsea Cain), and cookbooks. Oh, and Neal Stephenson (I only have _Snowcrash_ and _Zodiac_) and Neil Gaiman. And I would love to get more into graphic novels and comics that aren't Marvel or DC (current favorites: Irredeemable, Incorruptible, Chew, and A Voice in the Dark. I loved _Red Son_ because of the alternate take on the Superman mythos, but I'm really tired of the big universes in comics, so I'm looking more towards indies nowadays).   Any small things you could use? Hair claws. I have a *lot* of hair and have plenty of hair *ties*, but I'm now working on claws. I have *one*. Also office supplies: Things like fun pens, Post-Its, binder clips. I have a weird obsession with office supplies in general and pens in particular.   Do any of you also have a fondness for vintage bits and bobs? I like them, but they almost inevitably end up in storage.   Do you have an eReader? I have an iPhone with a Kindle app. Is that close enough?   How do you feel about other perfume etailers? As long as it's oil-based and not alcohol-based, it's fantastic! I have some stay-away notes, though: Vetiver, anything with the word "white," banana, aquatics, anything described as "airy" or "ethereal," civet, opium, anything evergreen-y, wood, benzoin, honey. Things I love: Red musk, black musk, citrus, violet, carnation, dragon's blood, fruit blossoms of pretty much every variety (but especially orange blossom and neroli!), non-white sandalwood, champaca, resiny stuff. I'm starting to love gardenia and jasmine, but it's slow going.   Other than fragrance oils/perfumes what is your number one (or a tie between 2-3) favorite type of toiletry or scenty item? Lotion (body butter and hand cream also get lumped into this) and bath oils that can be used in place of lotion. Dry skin like whoa over here. I can't use bar soap, though. So itchy!   Pirates or ninjas? Both! I live in an area with a rather legendary piratical past.   Zombies – love, hate, obsessed, don't care, think they're coming for us any day now, other immediate/passionate thoughts? Longstanding fascination but not anywhere near as obsessed as my brother. My favorite movie during the early '80s (until I saw _A Nightmare on Elm Street_ in high school) was _Night of the Living Dead_ (and yes, I'm still a horror fan!).   Favorite Disney villain? I'm not sure I have one. Maybe the Red Queen? I'm actually not a huge Disney fan in general, but I'm obsessed with all things _Alice in Wonderland_. Original book, tarot cards, coffee mugs, BPAL, SyFy adaptation -- you name it, if it's AiW, I love it! (Exception: The Tim Burton version. I don't *hate* it. I just don't *love* it.)   Is there any BPAL oil that you are dying to get your hands on? It doesn't have to be a rare, just something you really want to try? Not really. I have a bit of a take-it-as-it-comes stance on BPAL nowadays: I'll try whatever comes my way, but I've tried so many that I think I've tried all of the GC stuff I desperately wanted to try, and I haven't really been paying attention to the new stuff lately because I have tons of stuff I love already! (And then there's the part where the last several times there was a BPAL oil I wanted, it turned out I already had it in my collection.)   Do you want to see things in your box for your significant other/spouse/kids/fish/whatever? Or do you want to keep it allll about you? No spouse and no kids. Two kitties, though. Edgar is happy if something is sent in a box regardless of what it is or whether it's for him. He loves biting -- but not chewing -- the edges of boxes. Oscar loves mesh bags of stuff that he can flip around. He's currently playing with a random mesh drawstring bag with dried rose petals that he dug out of a box somewhere. He's been at it for about an hour. I will clearly be vacuuming once he finishes disemboweling it!   We've had a lot of questions about coffee and tea - how do you feel about other things? Cocoa, spicing for ciders, flavoring to add to water is what I mean? Yes! All of it!   Do you have a general swap-related help post somewhere? This is it.   Do you have Etsy/Amazon wishlists linked somewhere? Amazon: http://amzn.com/w/ZM7VETPCE38L Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/people/meaganola/favorites/items-i-love   Do you have a Tumblr/Pinterest you'd share with everyone (these can be really informative as to style?) Not really. I have both, but they're pretty much abandoned at this point. I don't think I've even *looked* at Pinterest in at least six months, and I have no clue how to use Tumblr.   Favorite candles, companies and/or candle scents? Candles are a no-go. I tend to go for BPAL Atmos sprays and incense when I want to scent my living space.   Favorite kinds of tea (flavors, companies) Pretty much all kinds, especially herbal, berry, and Earl Grey variations. Loose or bags, doesn't matter. Decaf preferred just so I can drink it ALL DAY. I'm not sure I have favorite brands because I tend to be able to find something I like from every brand! I drink a ton of Stash mainly because I have easy access to their company stores and can get every flavor they make year-round.   Any of the Villainess autumn or winter soaps appeal? Another soap company you'd like more? Bar soap and I do not get along. Shower gels are my thing. I would love to try pretty much any indie shower gel because that's where I want to start sending my bath products money!   Do you like knitted items? If so, any fiber sensitivities/allergies? What kinds of items would you like? Yes! And I seem to have outgrown my wool allergy! Hats, gloves, scarves, whatever!   Words, Numbers or Spatial manipulation? Words. I *love* crossword puzzles!   Anything you do NOT want? Banana anything. Scent, flavor, color -- hate it all.   What are some of your favorite Holiday symbols? Valentine's Day: I just like the color hot hot pink/fuchsia. I'm not sure there's a symbol for it that I gravitate towards. St. Patrick's Day: Everything. I make an exception for my hatred of the color orange once a year for this day. Easter: Bunnies! Halloween: Black cats, bats, rats, and skulls (I love Halloween!). Winter holidays: Snowflakes. It seems like things get glittery in the winter, and I love glittery stuff, too.   Bulk-Foods Section Goodies: Yea or Nay? Let's assume they're all individually packaged, and clearly labeled with what they are. Yay! I love the bulk section.   Would a mixed CD be something you would enjoy? If so, who are some favorite artists, what style of music do you enjoy, and/or would you prefer a valentine/romantic theme or general mix? Yes! I'm very much removed from the current music scene, although that's not for any particular reason. I've been listening to a lot of Billy Bragg, Thermals, Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, and Against Me! lately. I'm looking forward to March because that's when I break out ALL OF THE POGUES. I will listen to any style -- punk, rock, mid-20th century jazz (Charlie Parker! Dizzy Gillespie! Chet Baker! Dave Brubeck!), country (I tend to go for older stuff, like Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, and Willie Nelson), rap (especially lefty political stuff like Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions, and The Coup), folk music (my kind of punk owes its soul to Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie)... I'll listen to just about everything once. I'm not big on soft, romantic music. Or reggae.   Do you like incense? Yes! I currently use stick and cone. Resin kind of confuses me, although I would love to give it a shot if I had good instructions. I used to have a really neat powder incense burner -- Sweet Rock? Something like that -- and it would be neat to have one again, although I have no idea where I got it in the first place.   if I were to find a small bottle of alcohol, would you be interested, and if yes, of what? Sure! I'm not really particular on type of alcohol because I love to try new things, but local anything is fantstic (not just alcohol! Tea, incense, paper, magnets -- you name it, I'm interested!).   Dear Valentine, I will hopefully be going to Portland this weekend for the Rose Garden Arena Monster Jam (I'm having to work 7 days in a row at 14 hours each in order to get the weekend off specifically to go there) -- is there anything Portland related that you desire? A meet up! I'm already here!

notes on notes.

sometimes i forget the description of a note, or it's new to me, so i am saving them here for my own reference.

ambrette seed

the seeds have a sweet, flowery, heavy fragrance similar to that of musk.

cistus
Cistus essential oil is distilled from the rock rose plant, which is native to the Mediterranean region. It is more woody and herbaceous with a less-amber like aroma than labdanum, which is produced from the same plant. Cistus is used often in oriental and chypre fragrances.

elemi
Canarium luzonicum, commonly known as elemi, is a tree native to the Philippines, and an oleoresin harvested from it. Elemi resin is a pale yellow substance, of honey-like consistency. Aromatic elemi oil is steam distilled from the resin. It is a fragrant resin with a sharp pine and lemon-like scent.

hyssop

Frimp from the lab.     In the imp: Bubblegum, candy.   Wet: A blast of raspberries soaked in orange juice. Can't smell the neroli, so I think my skin, which amps citrus, is cranking the orange to eleven and drowning it out completely.   Drydown: Turns into fake sharply-sweet candy -- Sweet Tarts is about right. I don't know why someone would want to smell like this, really. It also fades insanely quickly on me -- within about half an hour it was almost impossible to smell.   Verdict: Glad it was a frimp.   Source: Akuma

The holiday's

The holiday's for me the last two years have been kind of, well blah. I lost my mom May 4th of 2011. Just before mothers day, shortly after I was told I had to have an emergency hysterectomy and I would not be able to have kids. A bit of a slap in the face, but life is like that sometimes. More and more my mind goes to what is the point. No kids, no family other than the DH so there is no purpose in the decorating, baking and such.   This year I do not know what happened, I for some reason have been trying to find a purpose in it. I signed up for a secret Santa on Reddit, then found I wanted to do more so signed up for re-matching. It felt good to know I was doing something for someone else who may have needed that extra thought of "there is someone else in the world thinking about you. You may not know me, but hey I am here.".   There are so many out there that hurt and are alone, I am not alone though sometimes I feel as though I am. It isn't from any kind of neglect but more from what feels like a hole in me. Reaching out this year has truly made a difference for me and I hope that I can make a difference to some one else. I am going to smile, do all the holiday things I did before when my mom was alive. Make extra candy, bake extra goodies then try to find someone to pass off homemade chocolate covered caramel filled marshmallows too, that aren't afraid I am trying to pull some "Flowers in the Attic" move on them.   To those of you out there that have already allowed me to be involved in your lives even the slightest bit, thank you. You have healed a small part of me that has left me looking forward to the next.

From: She Crushes for Dead Men Deadly Wine

This was a really nice surprise for me, because I thought it might be too boozy, but it's a great scent.     In the bottle: honey wine and maybe grape, or cherry. No pom.   Wet: The pom blooms on my skin and overpowers everything else for a few minutes -- I amp pom and love it. The pom mixes really well with the wine. The BPAL pom note often goes too tart on me, but this is a very dark sweet version. On me the pom keeps the sweetness other people mentioned in check and I get some incense, and the balm I think adds a really nice hint of wood. This scent is dark, complex and well-blended. Not flowery, and not that fruity either: it's rich dark red wine with dark berries, maybe mahogany. It glows like a ruby. I know I'm emphasizing the wine but it really doesn't smell that boozy. It's maybe more like the flavour you get in a red wine reduction, very rich.   Drydown: Doesn't really morph at all on me. It gets a little sweeter and more of the incense comes out. It has GREAT throw -- my husband smelled it a few feet away from me outside on a windy day! Lasted a fairly long while, too. It's a great fall/winter scent.   Verdict: I'm just sorry I didn't get two bottles.   Source: She Crushes for Dead Men Deadly Wine

Lightning + stormclouds = ozone and aquatic Death Notes, but Mary Shelley is one of My Girls, I love the GC Absinthe and really like the new Inspiration line, so I decided what the hell.     In the bottle (I know, I know we don't get the perfume for the labels but the Inspiration ones are SO GOOD. Dying for the T-shirt): I smell mostly mint, maybe some wormwood. Thank God it's not sharp. Most BPAL mints drown out every other note on me, so I'm probably amping the faint mint note in this.   Wet: Thought this was disaster when I seemed to smell celery. Husband, when applied to, reassured me multiple times it was not celery. (He thought it was "floral and sweet, kind of nice, not great.") Fortunately the celery? didn't stick around long. I definitely got all the mint, anise, sugar, wormwood, laudanum, absinthe, fennel, &c &c. notes, but faintly. It's really not that strong at all. Thankfully it didn't turn to screaming green on my skin, nor did the ozone note give me a headache. Rather pleasant surprise on both counts.   Drydown: On me it sweetens up and gets rather faint, and more mint comes out. It's a cool smell, not sharp at all, more a soft floral with faint mint, and would be a good summer perfume. Pretty, but fades fairly fast. It does smell more like a cologne than a perfume, but it's not sharp. I do like it. I agree with everyone else that after drydown there isn't much absinthe, so if you get it for that, you might be disappointed.   Verdict: Don't know if it would be bottle-worthy for other people, but I like finding a mint/green scent I can actually wear. I was expecting more absinthe and 'Victorian oriental' notes, but it's rare for me to find an ozone/aquatic or green or mint scent I can even tolerate, so I'm actually sort of pleased with it.   Source: Mary Shelley

From: Midnight Mass

Review of the 2012 bottle -- I have a decant from (I think) 2009 and really like it.   In the bottle: Slightly sharp but not unpleasant, and wood/balsam rather than flowers or incense. This is a rather thick clear golden oil that's even a little sticky.   Wet: Spicy, faintly floral, woody. I do pick up hints of the rose and lily. I think the spice is caused by frankincense, maybe balsam fir. There's a forest-y smell that isn't green (on me, the BPAL green note turns to ugh), a little like pine or fir. Almost no incense. Not exactly a floral scent, but I'm not really getting any resin either.   Drydown: This fades fast, but lingers. As it dries I get more of the wood and frank, and then the flowers peep out again near the end, before it gets very faint, which happens on me after maybe about six hours. Really doesn't last as long as I expected.   Verdict: I do like this scent -- it's a well-blended rose/spice/wood/forest mix that's very pleasant, and fitting for the winter holidays. It really doesn't remind me of midnight mass, though -- more like Advent Sunday, maybe: quiet but not somber, certain of coming joy, peaceful. I think as this ages the incense comes up, and there isn't as much pine/fir in the older versions.   Source: Midnight Mass

A perfume sacred to the highest of the angelic hosts: calla lily, wisteria, white sandalwood, Damascus rose and frankincense.     Trying out unused frimps from the Lab -- this is several months old, I think.   In the imp: A kind of fresh soapy smell. Yikes?   Wet: WHAM high white florals hit me in the face. This usually causes a headache instanter, but not right now. Maybe the frank and sandalwood are toning down the flowers. Rather pleasant, actually.   Drydown: The wisteria and lily really aren't mixing well. I can't smell rose at all, which is odd because my skin amps it. There's a very weird almost bitter undertone, which might be the sandalwood, because my skin amps that too. The scent isn't not soapy or sharp, but really not what I was expecting. If anything this is a kind of flowery incense, not a floral. (Husband says it smells more flowery to him, less incense, but he also gets the bitter scent.)   Dry: Almost no throw and the bitter note, whatever it is, heats up. Not soapy, but it's biting and unpleasant.   Verdict: Total miss for me. It's a shame that right-out-of-the-imp smell didn't last because I really liked it.   Source: Seraphim

Miracle of miracles, this is one of the few BPAL "high" white florals I can wear without an insta-headache, so I like it a lot for that alone.     In the bottle: Very sweet, light and feminine floral. I really liked the comparisons to a wedding bouquet and Easter lilies. It's maybe not that sweet, and slightly sharp.   Wet: Sharpens a little bit more, but it's not soapy or perfumey. This is definitely the All-Singing All-Jasmine show. I get maybe a little of the orris root or the amber, which seem to be weighing down the florals a bit and adding a powdery note. This is slightly girly and "juvenile" for me -- it feels like perfume for a young girl. Pretty, but simple.   Drydown: More of the same, maybe a little more powdery. This warms up into a nice juicy strong jasmine scent. Fades rather quickly. I doubt I'll ever get my hands on the BPAL Jasmine SN, so this appears to be a nice substitute.   Verdict: If you like jasmine, this is for you. If you despair of ever finding a BPAL white floral you can wear pain-free, this may also be for you. I'm keeping this, but might try it in a scent locket to see if it lasts longer, or layering it with a resin to see if I can bring out the other notes more. This could be a nice BPAL starter scent for someone (someone who doesn't get that cat-pee effect, needless to say).   Source: Corinna

Winter Solstice swap!

YAYAYAYAY!!!   Since wishlist links never seem to work in forum mail, won't you please re-post your wishlist links here, so they're readable? Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/2VIHZXZ6QO1U3/ref=topnav_lists_1 bpal: http://www.bpal.org/topic/127-wishlist/page__st__1950__p__1597467#entry1597467   (I may be re-answering some of these, since I think I answered some in-thread, so if my answer differs from the other answers, use the ones you like best!)   Yule update/House of Gloi I have already put in an order for the decants I want to try for bpal. House of Gloi, I would like to try a butterbomb, or bubbling scrub, or sugar exfoliant, or a lippie, or a soap. Ha ha ha! I am easy!   When you think of light this time of year, does anything sound particularly delightful? Are candles your favorite? Or are you craving some strings of Christmas lights? Do you have a fireplace/woodstove and want some firestarters? And somewhat tangential, do you like incense, and if so what scents do you like? Candles and christmas lights. (Especially the ceramic bulb christmas lights, and if there are any of the individual twinkle bulbs, that'd be awesome. They're harder to find now, so if you have any that aren't getting loved, I'd happily take them.) No place for firestarters, unless I get really mad and decide to burn down buildings. I don't care for incense.   Are you going anywhere "dressed-up" over the holidays? Any swank parties, big balls <snicker>, or black- tie rainbow gatherings in your holiday plans? If so, would you like something fancy for your hair? Do you prefer barettes, headbands, ponytail holders, hair sticks, combs, or some other as yet unnamed hair implement? maybe barettes, or if you feel fancy, a cute feathery clippy thing-or a flower clippy, or really fancy...I like the idea of those little flapper-type headbands.   Would you like a little sparkly piece of jewelry made just for you for your special soiree? I'm not promising you diamonds or anything, but any gemstones that you are particularly fond of or that hold special meaning for you? I like rocks a lot. Like jaspers, agates, quartzes. Also, garnets are very lovely, as is amber. My engagement ring is citrine, and I love that too. And misshappen pearls. I generally like the stuff that isn't grade A, the flaws make things have character.   Do you prefer bold and statement making pieces or something more subtle and intimate? whatever you like! I'm easy! I have a mix of both at home.   I use naturally shed and found feathers as well as upcycled/recycled leather and fur from scrap and vintage. Are you vegan or would any of these be a problem for you? I also do not object to found bones and skulls.   starbucks/teavana: No thank you to starbucks coffees. They all have a burnt taste to them to me. I do love caribou coffee, or other kinds though. I use ground more than whole, but I do have a grinder. I use my friends k-cup at work, so cups for that would be fun! Teas are awesome! I like them all except for roobios, licorice, or jasmines. My favorites are flavored and chais. Though some tasty herbals are good to, I try to limit my caffiene to early morning only. I could use a cute infuser for a cup. I think I added one to my amazon list, but I'm not picky about it. One of the tea bag squeezer, fisher-outer thingers would be nice too. I just use my fingers right now. Looseleaf or bagged is good for tea! YAY!   homemade treats: I like treats! All of them! Minus licorice. Not that I know of anyone who makes homemade licorice. Mixes are good too!   sparkly: Of course! Glitter covers any mistake or anything you want to hide! Cover things in glitter! Ha ha ha ha! I really like glittery nail polish. Probably wouldn't use body glitter so much, but a sparkly eyeshadow or hair thingy would rock!   bath things: YAYAYAYAY!! Bath, shower, I love it all! My favorite scrubs are from paintbox, I like the ones that turn soapy more than the oily kind. I haven't tried a salt scrub all all though. Soaps are fun! And so are body wash thingies, and bath bombs are a special treat! I like bath oils too, and bubble bath thingies! I love it all!   things to hang on the wall Sure! Maybe keep them on the smallerish size. I have some wall space. (Smallerish meaning, maybe nothing over 11x14)   Is there anything that keeps catching your eye but which you never buy because it seems too frivolous? I could use a nice nail file. More dry shampoo, I have a sample from Puur that I like. It would have to be one of the lighter colored ones, my hair isn't very dark.   favorite colors: I like colors! All of them! I'm not super-fond of pastels.   Fandoms? I guess Harry Potter, Supernatural, Firefly, Star wars, Powerpuff girls, Fraggle Rock, the Resident evil movies, hunger games. Probably some others too. I'm more of a like the stuff and would wear a t-shirt or have a book mark sort of fan. I don't dress up like characters, and probably wouldn't hang a bunch of posters on the wall sort of fandom person. Smaller items are fun!   ereader? nope. I am dinosaur. RAHHHHHH!! *stomp stomp*   Hair stuff? Sure thing! My hair is too short for ponytails or chopsticks. Headbands are sometimes a hard fit for my giant melon. Flowers on a clip are fun, and stuff for helping curly hair. (It curls nice if I give it some mousse or something like that, otherwise its fairly wavy.)     Lip gloss/balm? Gloss and balm, yes! I tend not to wear lipsticks, though I do like things like the Clinque Chubby sticks, they're sort of in between a balm and a lipstick. I also am not good at coloring in the lines, so stains get a little out of hand and so do really dark colors.   Green thumb/plants? sort of! I grow some things very well. Particularily things that like a small amount of neglect. Things that need watering every day (or every couple of days) tend to die on me. I do very well with cactus, and succulents, and african violets. (though my orchid has just grown 3 new leaves, so you never know.) I have a varigated spider plant, so if you have a solid colored one, that would be fun to get a spider from that. I'll try any plant! (Mr. Boy thinks I have plant issues, and I shouldn't bring anymore home. Ha ha ha! Silly boy! Of course, a present plant would be different.) I would worry a bit about the plant sitting outside if it was in the mail though. Outside, I am working on getting my garden going. I would love seeds. Any sort of wildflowers/self seeding sort of things. I am going to turn the backyard into a wildflower garden. Also a little herbal kitchen garden kit thingy would be fun to try. I have more windows now, and most of them are nice east windows, so I might get enough sun for them. (I haven't tried herbs in my new house yet, just in the apartment, and they either didn't like it there, or they didn't like that they weren't getting watered much.)

From: Jasmine Cottage

In the bottle: Very faint florals.   Wet: SOAP. Overwhelming sharp headache-inducing soap. It's exactly like Farenath said, like someone took all the stems, leaves and thorns from a field of wildflowers and crushed them all up, and then made them into powerful soap. Obviously there's some really intense green note. I wouldn't have gotten this if I'd known that. (My fault for not checking reviews first, I guess.....) Maybe it's the heather, or the thyme.   Drydown: Soap soap soap. It doesn't morph at all, no jasmine, no wisteria, no honeysuckle, no nothing except very sharp green soap. Husband said it was like a mix of Ivory and Irish Spring.   Verdict: Total miss. Kinda heartbroken as I'd waited a long time to get this one....Hope the green or the soap will die down as this ages, maybe.   Source: Jasmine Cottage

From: Peach Moon

I was disappointed in this because I wanted a big ripe gorgeous peach smell, but it's still a pretty scent.   In the bottle: Sharp chemical artificial florals. Yikes.   Wet: Still pretty sharp, and I get that Herbal Essences note. Thankfully it died down pretty fast, and the scent didn't ever go soapy on me, but the 'shampoo' left a bad aftertaste (aftersmell?). I think this might be the chrysanthemum, which seemed to be softened later by the musk. The tea note was really strong on me at first, but then the peach blossoms started coming out fairly soon. A very light scent, in several senses -- if it were a colour it'd be pale pale pastel yellow.   Dry: Semi-sweet, pale, and quite faint. This is definitely more a light crisp floral than a heavy sweet fruit. It doesn't give me the headaches that typical light florals often do, but I think this is because it's more like peach tea, or white tea with a trace of peach syrup. Almost no throw, although it did last longer than I thought -- my skin seemed to eat it in about an hour and half, but several hours after that I was still getting faint little whiffs every now and then. Little Bird called it "perfume-sharp" which seems right to me -- not unpleasantly sharp like soap, but not what I wanted.   Verdict: Not a total miss, but not something I'll be wearing all that often, either. Maybe part of the problem is testing it in November -- it's definitely a spring/early summer kind of scent, or early spring.     Corollary: I don't like mums any more as perfume than as actual flowers, ack gag. I'm not that fond of carnations either, and now I'm a little nervous about Flor de Muerto, which sounded intriguing....   Source: Peach Moon

Switch O'Ween swap questions & answers

11/5/13: If your Witch were to create a cookbook of recipes she thought you'd like, would you be interested in that sort of thing? And if so, what sort of recipes would you be interested in? I’m pretty sure that the asker of this question is not my Witch! About the only type of recipes I would use are cocktail recipes.   10/31/13: Are there any GC scents that you love, but for whatever reason, you keep putting off buying bottles of? Not really. After a round of discontinuations a few years ago I made a point of getting back-up bottles of all my favourites, and I try to throw a bottle of my beloved Dorian in every few orders or so to help ensure that I never run out. One GC that does spring to mind is Mouse Circus. I want to try a decant of it to see if I’d like it enough to buy a bottle, but I’ve just never gotten around to actually purchasing a decant yet.   10/30/13: Do you want to be an early accepter or would you prefer your reveal later in the swap, say maybe closer to the deadline? Whichever my Witch prefers! I know that I personally will be revealing late in the swap, as I am perpetually slow and will go right up to the deadline. So if my Witch wants to match my speed, later is the way to go, but really, whatever works best for my Witch is fine by me!   10/29/13: Is there anything you would like from the Blooddrop Halloween update? Hmmm, it looks like it’s heavy on the pumpkin and apple scents, which aren’t really my thing, but there were a few things that looked interesting: the Bath Truffles in Black currant & tea leaves and Devil girl; the Chai tea perfume; and maybe the Candied yams or Toffee perfume. The Tabac perfume looks intriguing, but I’m sure a small half- or quarter-decant size would satisfy my curiousity.   Do you prefer to receive whole coffee beans or ground? Also, if you like flavoured blends, what sort of flavours? (caramels, nuts, chocolate, etc.) Sorry, I don’t drink coffee.   How do you feel about robots? I don’t really give them much thought. I like cute robots, and I’ve seen a robot tea infuser on Amazon that I think is kind of neat.   10/28/13: Are you interested in anything from the Haus of Gloi yule update on November 3rd? Which products and which scents? No, thank you.   If I made fairy, dragon or butterfly wing earrings, would you wear them? If so, which would you prefer? I don’t wear earrings, but I thought JazzieCazzie’s idea about a single wing as a pendant instead was pretty good. If you did that, I’d like a dragon wing best.   How do you feel about nail polish? If you like it, are there any brands or colors in which you are interested? Love it! I’ll wear pretty much any brand, and I’m a sucker for holos and duo- and multi-chromes. I also like sparkly and foil-y colours, and colours with fine glitter (not so much the chunky stuff). I prefer shiny finishes to cream finishes, but exceptions can always be made for the right shade.   What about makeup? What brands do you prefer and which products would you most enjoy receiving? Love makeup also, but really don’t need any more. I’m pretty well stocked up, and most of the things I’d like are more expensive than I’d expect to get from someone. I love eyeliners and eyeshadows best, so if you have any unloved samples sitting around that you’d like to get rid of, I’d be happy to welcome them into my home!   Your feelings on Adagio teas: If you've never had anything from them, would you be open to trying them? If you HAVE had them and like them, name some favorites blends. I haven’t had them, but I’d be open to trying them. I noticed that Dixiehellcat mentioned Supernatural-themed teas, so I’ll definitely have to take a look at the Adagio website and check those out!   Do you like video games? Are there any you want to play? Do you have a large library? I like them all right, but I haven’t played in decades (we’re talking back in the days of Texas Instruments computer games), so I don’t really see myself getting back into them.   Name three BPAL scents you have tried, but are dying to get more of. Midway or Midway Resurrected; Temple Viper; and Lyonesse.   Have you ever tried anything from Paintbox Soapworks? Which products or scents would you prefer? I have, but glycerin soaps aren't really my thing, and I don't use lotion much at all, so despite the fact that the presentation is pretty, I've not been tempted by them.   Do you like/have space to garden? If so, what do you grow? I have the space, but not the motivation. I have a fairly thriving crop of peppermint and lemon thyme in one part of my yard, but that’s about it. If it’s something that can be planted and then ignored for years and still continue to grow, it has a chance, but I’m definitely not a gardener.   Gift cards/vouchers - yay or nay? If you like them - which stores would you like one for? Yay! Amazon or Barnes & Noble are always good, Etsy would be amazing (but unless they’ve changed things since the last time I checked, the denominations start too high), and gift cards to JoAnn’s, Michael’s, Sephora, or Ulta would also be nice and definitely get used.   Seen anything lately that makes you go OH HOLY FUCK THAT'S AWESOME!! ? I wish!   Name five small things you could use, but might not think to get for yourself? This is hard, because usually when I think of things I could use, I write them down and pick them up sooner or later. Here’s a start, and if I think of any other things I’ll come back and add them. 1. small flashdrive 2. nail clippers 3. tweezers 4. audio cassette player cleaning kit 5.   Is there anything from a farmer's market you might like? Beeswax candles, homemade baked goods or candies, or maple syrup. If your farmer’s market also has little handmade crafty stuff, that could be good too, and I always like trying new handmade soaps.   10/25/13: Do you have any upcoming away time I should be aware of, for shipping purposes? Nope!   Would you like anything from Sock Dreams? Probably, but I haven’t looked lately. If I can find the time, I’ll try to take a look and update here.   10/24/13: Is there anything in the Miskatonic Valley Philharmonic update that you're interested in? I’d like to try a bit of Und Wir Dachten der Toten and Totentanz the most, and La Lugubre Gondola second most.   Is there anything my mom's etsy shop that you're interested in? The glitter bats bag! The colored upcycled bunny feed bag is cute too, but probably not something that I would use. But cute bunny!   10/23/13: Are you okay with semi-spicy foods right now? I'm thinking like curry or chipotle? If you were to choose a chili powder would you go Hot, Medium, or Mild? I’m ok with semi-spicy in salsa or curry, but I don’t eat chili or chipotle at all, and about the only time I eat curry is when I buy curry buns from the Japanese market.   If you were this mystery witch's witchee, would you be interested in Spoonfudge (http://www.spoonfudge.com/) or any other such "ordered online" sweet? Absolutely! Even better than Spoonfudge would just be regular old fudge, but I would definitely be happy to give Spoonfudge a try. I don’t say no to sweets!   Also - Double checking everyone's baked goods status. Home-made baked goods or other food stuffs OK? Absolutely! I don’t bake more than once or twice a year myself, so I’m thrilled to pieces to get homemade treats!   Is there anything you'd like from Lush, witchee? No, thank you.   If you like earrings, what kind? Dangly earrings, hoops, studs - what kind do you like? How long do you like your necklaces? Or would you prefer to just get a pendent, so you can size the chain yourself? I don’t wear earrings. I usually wear a 14” or 16” chain with my pendents, so that’s probably a good length for necklaces as well. I have both gold and silver chains in various lengths, so just a pendent would be just fine as well.   If I were your witch and were to paint you something, what would you absolutely love, what would you feel ambivalent toward, and what would you not like to see or receive? Something with bats or sea monsters would be on the love side, as would a simple, clean pattern or design of some kind. Anything distorted or abstract would be more on the not like side.   10/21/13: Are there any craft project/s you are working on now that you need supplies for? Or rather, is there a craft project you've been wanting to do but need stuff to start? The only crafts I’m working on at the moment are cross-stitch and card-making. I think I’m set for cross-stitch supplies; for card-making, cute or pretty paper and rubber stamps always come in handy. Halloween designs would be especially welcomed, as would anything with bats, bunnies, maneki neko / lucky cats, or Hello Kitty.   What do you think of hair sticks? Would you like a set? I’m not really skilled enough to use them, plus I’m guessing they’d probably slip right out of my hair like most other hair accessories. Also, I’m really looking forward to getting my hair cut to just below the chin next month, so I guess no hair sticks for me.   Is there anything you'd really like to have/try from Trader Joe's, or any other popular-but-not-available-everywhere store? I have a Trader Joe’s nearby, but they seem to no longer be stocking the delicious crunchy black and white rice rolls that I loved. If your store still has a box or two on the shelves, I’d love to have them!   Would you rather have something fun or practical? Probably fun, but if it’s cute AND practical, then either way.   Witchee, would you like a set of Cards Against Humanity? No, thank you.   10/20/13: Table Games - do you play them? If so, which ones, and which versions, and are there any goodies you might like related to them? Not nearly as often as I’d like, because I really don’t have anyone to play with. I recently bought Elder Sign because the box said you just needed one person to play, but I haven’t sat down and played it yet. So I guess my answer to this one may as well be no, although not for lack of interest.   Witchee, are you in need of any particular spices? I neither cook nor bake, so no need for spices.   10/19/13: If you were my witchee, would you be interested in anything from my store or something similar? (Nut-made by LisaNut on etsy.) I like the rainbow knitted scarf, but I already have a ton of scarves, and I almost never wear scarves, so I guess not.   Say your witch works at a used bookstore. what kinds of things might you like from there? cool old pulp fiction paperbacks? tarot cards? (we have those.) a dr who pen? books about haunted cemeteries in seattle? you may have all of these things:) oh, and also movies. and cds. All those things sound cool, but especially the pulp fiction paperbacks. And if your store has any of the old Three Investigators detective books cheap, I’d love to re-read them and save them for my nephew to read some day. I was reminded of them recently and decided to borrow some from the library, only to discover that they no longer have any!   Witchee, the Haunt Halloween update goes live tomorrow! When it does, please post right away and let me know your dreams and wishes! Sorry, I’m slow and it’s already long over.   I've got some canned goods put up -- mostly jams/jellies, some apple butter, some applesauce. Want some? If so, what kind(s)? No, thank you. I love the idea of homemade canned goods, but in reality, I rarely use jams or jellies and I don’t eat applesauce or apple butter.   How feel you about lip balms, glosses, and lipsticks? Any particular favourite scents/flavours? Any favourite makers/sellers? Love lip balms! I’m always looking for the best cherry or sour cherry lip balm, but I’m open to most other scents/flavours too. I recently got a Bite Me! black cherry lip balm made by Lippincott Soap Co. on Etsy from Dominique in a swap, and I really liked it, so I’d be interested in trying some of their other flavours. Bubblegum; Black Cat; Mermaid; Zombie Love; Gingerbread Man; Chai Tea; and Vanilla Mint all sound good, and I’m sure that other companies probably have similar flavours.   Since wishlist links never seem to work in forum mail, won't you please re-post your wishlist links here, so they're readable? They’re all in my sig.   10/18/13: Are you a fan of anything that you would like a tshirt of? If so, what size would you wear? Not really.   Do you love, hate, or are indifferent to.....pumpkin flavored things? I would say hate, except that I do like pumpkin muffins and pumpkin beer. And pumpkin spice doughnuts. So I guess hate’s not the right choice, but I certainly don’t go seeking out pumpkin flavoured things (except pumpkin beer, because I’m on a quest to try as many as I can find!).   Dear future Witchee, did you get anything from the Beaver Moon or Weenie updates that I need to know about, so I don't accidentally repeat anything? I haven’t gotten anything, and I have no plans to do so any time soon.   Name some DVDs you wouldnt mind receiving, or are they on an Amazon list? They’re all on my Amazon list.   Do you want anything from Starbucks or Teavana? Tea, tea makers, rock sugar, tea tins, coffee, via, via refreshers, mugs, tazo tea...? Maybe a cute tea tin or rock sugar?   10/17/13: Halloween Candy, Decorations, and Costume supplies - What kind are your idea of FUN and which ones would you thoroughly dislike? Most of the standard snack size bars are fun, and I have a special love for Reese’s peanut butter pumpkins and caramel apple candy corn. I usually try to buy a bag of SweeTarts or Pixie Stix or something for trick-or-treaters who can’t have chocolate, and I’m always delighted when I have leftovers of those for me to enjoy. Decoration-wise, pretty much anything with a bat on it is love. I like most decorations, except the ones with a flattened witch or bat that you’re supposed to hang on the outside of your house like they crashed into it. I don’t really do costumes for Halloween anymore, but Halloween-themed temporary tattoos or accent stickers for nails (just the little stickers you put on top of polish, not the full polish wraps) are fun.   WHAT traditions to you partake in for Halloween? Knowing what you do our how you decorate or how you celebrate? I try to get out as many of the Halloween decorations as possible, but usually end up waiting too long and rushing to get up just a few before the trick-or-treaters arrive. (And then I leave them up for another month or so…..) I like to read some Poe and watch some old horror movies (the ones with Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Peter Lorre, Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, etc.). This year I’m going to my parents’ for an early pizza dinner with them, my brother and sister-in-law and little nephew, my sister-in-law’s dad, and at least one old family friend, then I’ll head back to my house to hand out candy.   10/16/13: Hey, Witchee, it's getting cold. Socks, scarves, hats or arm warmers? Socks and fingerless gloves/mittens are always welcome!

Swap Help

Ohh lookie I made current (11/2013) wish lists!!! I will also write things and update my BPAL wishlist when I have more time. I need to find more cheap things to add on my problem is my self control is so much less when its a couple bucks.   Amazon Wishlist   Sephora Loves   It might be kind of a weird request... but I just started taking dance performance classes, and at least every 2 months we have a recital... so any interesting props or costume pieces are welcome, as I am sure I can find a use for it.   I am suppose to be paleo, but cheat occasionally. But bread and too much sugar makes me feel ick now that I'm off it. Never the less... I LOOOOOVE homemade treats.   I've been trying to do the whole weight loss fitness thing, so anything related to kettle bells or pole dance or body weight exercises is totally welcome. I use groupon and living social all the time too...   I also love me some Freshel Kanebo Mineral BB Cream in light in the pink tube.   I love smelling new botanicals! Especially frankincense, jasmine, vanilla or anything super exotic that I've never heard of   I've been curious to try House of Matriarch, The Rising Phoenix Perfumery, or Providence Perfume.   I love Hedonist by Viktoria Minya, and many of the Aftlier perfumes I've tried, expecially Haute Claire.   I LOVE leatherwood honey... but love other honeys in general, and would especially love to try some unique single sources for it.   I wear a size 9 shoe... and I SUCK at shoe and purse shopping... so if you rock at those things that is an idea.
