13 Nights Plain text

Welcome to 13 Nights of Halloween, Year 2! Your co-hosts this round will be Meaganola and Usagi.   In this swap, you will have the opportunity to gather 13 treats for another forumite, while someone else does the same for you. Then, on October 21st, all participants will begin the party, opening one gift per day until the grand finale, on November 2nd. As an added bonus, and for inspiration, we are offering the option of following themed October Days ideas (a la the amazing Wacky Days swap). Check them out! Sound like fun? Then jump in!   Technical details:   *Signups will be open until August 24th, or when the sixty slots are full-- whichever comes first. *This is a one-on-one, mystery match swap; you send a package to someone, someone sends a package to you. Note: you will probably not be receiving from the person you are sending to. *matches will go out within 48 hours of signups closing. *The mailing deadline is September 30th. Opening of packages will begin on October 21st, and end on November 2nd. *There will be a question about homemade food items. If you are intending to make such for your partner, you might want to include a small 'placeholder' gift for whichever day you want the food to be and mail the food a little closer to the actual opening deadline. This applies to perishables, like cookies and such, and not necessarily to things like jams or pickles, which should be fine for the waiting period.   Rules:   *Please only sign up for this if you are able to commit the time, resources, and/or funds necessary to this swap. *if the unforeseeable occurs--and you are unable to complete the swap, let me know ASAP, so that arrangements can be made and your swapper isn't left in the lurch. *Swaplifters will be reported. *Due to international shipping constraints, there is a firm mailing deadline of September 30th. We want everyone to be able to start opening their goodies on the same day-- that’s kind of the point of the swap. *please be prepared to gather a minimum of $30 worth of goodies, before shipping. This does not mean that you actually have to hand over $30 to a cashier somewhere. There are a some seriously crafty people and thrifty shoppers on this forum. Use your judgement as to value, I know it's good. *Shipping within the US is required to include tracking. If you are shipping international, please hang on to your receipt. *Starting on October 21st, you are responsible for reporting into this thread every day to squee about your goodies for the duration of the 13 Days.   If that sounds manageable, then please fill out the very long questionnaire below and PM it to Usagi.   Forum Name: Real Name: Mailing Address: Email Address:   Allergies, dietary, and lifestyle restrictions: For matching purposes, are there any common allergens in your environment, that might affect matching (pets, smoke, live in a field of ragweed)? Do you(or anyone who might come in contact or view of the contents of these glorious packages) have any kind of phobia, trigger, or squick-out which is likely to arise in fall or Halloween-themed goodies(please address concerns over spiders, ghosts, severed hands, etc., here)? Is there anything(that you know of) which it is illegal to mail to you, or that might cause Customs to become upset and hang on to your package?   Do you celebrate any fall holidays? Please feel free to place as much info/context as you wish: Are there certain things for these holidays--or your general love of fall-- that you would particularly appreciate receiving? If you celebrate Halloween, are you dressing up? *What as? *Would you like costume additions or accessories? Would you like decorations?   Favorite Colors: Least Favorite Colors: Favorite Flavors: Least Favorite Flavors: Do you like coffee and/or tea? Favorite snacks and treats: Favorite scents(both specific notes and perfume blends): Least Favorite Scents: Do you wear nail polish? Would you like makeup? *If you would like makeup, what sorts would you prefer? *Any favorite makeup brands, colors? *Any hated/not-preferred makeup brands, colors, or products(example: thanks to your sample box of choice, you hope never to see another black eyeliner as long as you live)? Favorite bath and body products?   Personal clothing style: Do you like jewelry? *If so, what sort? *What sizes and/or lengths do you prefer? Would you enjoy receiving wearables(shirts, socks, shoes, arm/legwarmers, hats, etc.)? *Sizing on wearables: Home style: Would you appreciate decoratives or art for your home? *Are there any restrictions(no naked people, no breakables, that kind of thing)?   What sort of music do you like? Are you okay with burned music CDs? Do you have VHS/DVD/Blu-Ray...Betamax? *does your player of choice have region restrictions? Is there anywhere that you would like a giftcard or online credit for? Hi! What are your hobbies? Would you like any supplies for your hobbies? Are there any crafts or hobbies you would like to try out, but haven't yet? Do you have gaming consoles, or play computer games? How about cosplay? Or tabletop gaming? Would you like to receive books? *what kind of books/format? How about magazines? PDFs and craft patterns?   Are there any other members of your household(significant other, furbabies, small, adorable humanoids, any other awesome person you consider part of your world) who might appreciate a little bit of fall-themed gifting?   Are you comfortable receiving homemade food items? Are you comfortable receiving good/like new condition used items? What are five inexpensive things you always appreciate receiving? Please place your wishlists here:   Is there anything else you would like to say to your swapper?   For our eyes only: Are you willing to ship internationally? Would you like to be paired with someone who will accept homemade food items? With whom have you swapped recently? Anyone you would especially enjoy swapping to? Anyone who you would rather not swap with? Do you mind being paired with Meaganola or Usagi(we might know who you were--but then, we might forget. It's a gamble)?

Suggestion scents?

Okay so I am sitting here watching catching fire, and then I think, they should make the hunger games, divergent, and mortal instrument series oils. its a suggestion, and I didn't know where else to get anyone else's opinion on the matter, so I posted it here. I hope I don't get in trouble for this either because I am still new and don't know where to post suggestions yet.   I'm a big fan of the three series, and I just thought it would be cool if they could experiment with making oils based off of those.   So what do you guys think? yay or nay??

13 Days of Halloween Help 2014

What are your thoughts on yarn and handmade yarny things? I love handmade yarny things and yarn!   For bath and body products: do you have a bathtub or shower? I have a bath, but I never use it because it's ugh. I love non-commercial soap and scrubs though! Are there any particular fandoms that you follow? Yes! Homestuck, Ava's Demon, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Umineko no Naku Koro ni, Attack on Titan (just getting into it), Harry Potter (I'm a ravenclaw!), Farscape, Battlestar Galactica (the reboot), My Little Pony Friendship is Magic (but I don't consider myself a brony, kinda don't like the fandom), Adventure Time, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Yu Yu Hakusho, Mass Effect, Pokemon, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, trying to get into Evagelion, The Elder Scrolls (but not the MMO lore), Star Wars: The Old Republic...I -think- that's it? Do you own a wax/oil burner? (If no, would you like one?) I don't! And yes! I would! So much!   Would you like loose, fancy tea? Yes yes yes yes! I'm out of teabags though...so even just teabags without the tea would be yay.   Incense, y/n? Only Japanese incense or cone incense, as I can't stand dipped incense.   Favorite fall activities? Cider. Just Cider.

13 Days of Halloween! 2014

Dear Swappee: is there anything you might have forgotten to put on your survey? I don't think so. Maybe that I am not picky at all! Are there any particular fandoms that you follow? I'm not a hardcore fandomy sort. But here is a list of things I like: Supernatural, Lord of the Rings, Resident Evil (the movies), Firefly/serenity, cookbooks (I know, I'm a weirdo, I read them for fun), Calvin and Hobbes, Foxtrot, Fraggle Rock, Powerpuff Girls, Star Wars, Hunger Games, Harry Potter, nail polish, puzzles, Do you own a wax/oil burner? (If no, would you like one?) I used to have one, but I got rid of it. I just didn't like it as much as candles. I love candles. Nice one, cheap ones, they're all my favorites.   What are your thoughts on yarn and handmade yarny things? YAY! I can crochet, and I do a lot of it. But, the only things I've ever made for myself are some blankets. So, while I can do it, I never do it for myself, so anything made for me would be greatly appreaciated! I do get hives from wools, even the nice wool blends. I could manage a hat, since I have a lot of hair, it wouldn't touch my skin...but I wouldn't be able to wear a scarf or mittens made out of wool. Anything else goes though! For bath and body products: do you have a bathtub or shower? I have both!   Incense, y/n? Incense and I do not get along at all. Would you like loose, fancy tea? Yum! I like everything, almost! I do not like jasmine teas, or roobios, or anything that's heavy on hibiscus, and licorice flavoring is icky. My favorites are spicy things, different chai type mixes, I also really like the white tea fruity flavors. And nut flavors. And chocolate ones. And green teas with flavors, black teas with fruity goodness, anything fall flavored (as in spices, and pumkins...not like dirt and dead leaves and rotting things). And ALL THE TEAS!!! What is your favorite fall activity? Leaves changing colors! The crisp air smells! The apple orchards! Pumpkin patches! The wee little kidlets coming to my door asking for candy! This is my first Halloween with doggies, and they WILL be wearing costumes! I hope to find a pretty tutu for BooBear, because she is a princess (and she has a homely little face, with a big underbite, so it'll be extra funny). And a hot dog bun costume for Bandit, since he's half weiner dog. Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! Bandit willing wears little sweaters when its super cold out and Boo had to wear a diaper after she got fixed in rescue (poor old girl was in heat when she was fixed and was a bit of a mess, my sister-in-law was her foster-mom, so we got all her information from fostering time), she didn't mind her diaper. So I think they'll both be ok with costumes. I'm in Japan, anything specifically Japanese-y you want? Japanese stuff! YAY! Please briefly describe (color, style, preferred type of beads) or provide a picture of (if it is suitable), the type of necklace (if any) you would be interested in getting. If you do not like necklaces, what kinds of jewelry (if any) would you want to wear? Halloweeny themed would be fun! I do tend to wear bold necklace more often than dainty little ones. But I am equal opportunity! What about hot chocolate/malt drinks? I don't know what a malt drink is, other than beer type stuff. If that's what is meant...Yum! If not, I am curious and want to try!   If you said that you are interested in books (or DVDs or any relatively big standalone sort of item), would you be okay with having multiples of such items spread over a couple of days, or would you prefer 13 distinct themish packages? yes! I like to open presents! Ha ha ha ha ha!   How into the day themeing mentioned in the first post are you? All themed? A few maybe if they are fun? Not at all? a present every day for me! Wheeeee!   Speaking of DVDs - are you interested in receiving movies and if so, what sort? I like to watch movies! And eat popcorn with them! I have lots of popcorn kernels in my freezer! I put lots of butter on the popcorn. Butter is delicious! (I have a few movies in my amazon wishlist, we have quite a few movies here at home. Mostly I like actiony kinds.)   Back to the books - if you said you would like books, would you prefer I send you, say, my favorite Halloween anthology or something else spooky/scary, or something off your wishlist/want-to-read on goodreads? That sounds fun! I don't have any Halloween anthology. I have lots of christmas romance ones. Halloween one sounds awesome! Spooky/scary is good too! And so is stuff off my wishlist. My goodreads is very out of date. Amazon list has books I want. But I love books, so it doesn't have to be off my list either. Yay books! (I'm not much of a fan of inspirational or drama-rama stuff.)   Do you want to know who is sending to you right away, or would you prefer to be surprised on the last day, to the extent possible? Likewise, do you have a preference for specifically numbered packages or for reach in and grab according to your fancy? Reveal. Don't reveal. Its all good! Numbers, no numbers, both super fun! Present, present every day! yAY!   Would you be interested in solid perfume? What about lip balm? Sure!   There was a lot of mention of not wearing costumes/not being allowed to at workplaces. Would you be interested in goth style or Halloween-themed(pumpkins, ghosts, etc.) normal clothes to wear instead, and what would be suitable? I can wear what I want...as long as I have close toed shoes on and my clothes won't get caught in machines.   I'm going to Rose City Comic Con during the shopping window. Any exhibitors/vendors/comics/etc. you're particularly interested in? OMG THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE A GOONIES "NEVER SAY DIE" T-SHIRT! I AM TOTALLY GETTING THAT! Ahem. Yes. I mean... There are things! Are any of them particularly appealing to you and/or your inner twelve-year-old (mine is calling dibs on the Goonies stuff)? I'm sure there are plenty of things I would like! I'm not sure what off the top of my head! I like things! Day of the dead/ Dia de los Muertos stuff? Sure! I have a lovely sugar skull that I got in a previous swap. (Mr. Boy REALLY wanted to taste it.) Does anything from this shop catch your eye? Yes! It looks nice! I use lotion less than anything else, but I wouldn't turn my nose up at lotion! Any sort of fall pumpkin/spicy/fall scents. Not a fan of florals or aquatics. Dear Pumpkin: Do you have aversions to any animals or insects? No live animals/insects please! Ha ha ha ha! Anything that is fake or dead is fine by me! How do you feel about canned foods like jams and things along those lines? LOVE THEM!!! I adore jams, jelly, and butters. For pickled things, I like dill pickles (hot one and non hot ones) and pickled jalapenos. Not much of a fan of other pickled veggies. Do you have a favourite colour scheme? Colors are so pretty! How do you feel about stickers (and stationery in general)? Yay stickers! I have a fair amount of stationery already, but like always, I don't mind getting more! How do we feel about fibercrafting (knit, crochet, etc.)? wearables? crafted critters? If you would like a scarf or something similar, would you like it to be themed, like fall colors, or have a skull or other halloweenie motif/border? YAYAYAYAYAYAY! What makes you feel pampered? Fancy candy and a bath! I have a dumb question! I know it's a big joke that we get everything five years later than everyone else in the world, but is there anything specifically Canadian you'd like? Maple things, chocolate bars, or any of our creepy chip flavours? I'm intrigued by the thought of the coffee crisps that other people mentioned. And bring on the creepy chips! If I don't like it, Mr. Boy will eat! I love trying new things!   A new question from me: While I am stalking the restock of the Rice Pudding hot process soap, does anything fromPaintbox Soapworks catch your eye? Ooooh! I love Paintbox! The sorbettos are my favorite sugar scrubs, and the soap! So good!   Is there is any TAZO tea you have a hankering for? Zen, Awake, Passion, China Green Tips, Vanilla Roibois, Calm, Refresh? (tea bags in a tin) no roobios, or anything floral or jasmine. Everything else is awesome!   How about any Teavana tea? (loose leaf) Same as above!   How about Starbucks coffee beans? If so, ground (and for what kind of filter) or whole bean? I'm not a fan of Starbucks coffee beans. I like their fancy froo-froo drinks, but not the plain coffee.   How about Starbucks coffee via (italian, columbia, anniversary, vanilla latte?) or Iced coffee via (caramel or regular?) Fruit flavored via (berry hisbiscus, cool lime, strawberry lemonade?) Pumpkin Spice Latte via? Oooh! Flavored! Pumpkin spice latte sounds yummy. And fruits! and caramel and vanilla! (Mr. Boy likes the regular plain via, so if you send some, he would be a happy boy.)   Starbucks K-cups or Verismo pods? No maker for them!   Coffee/tea travel mugs or ceramic home mugs? tea travel mug!   Coffee maker (french press) or tea steeper? I've been trying to find an electric percolator coffee pot. So far, the goodwills by me haven't had one.   Anything else from Starbucks/Teavana? Syrups, honey, whatever? Whatever! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! I don't usually sweeten my tea or use syrups, but if they come in a small little airplane liquor sized, they'd be fun to try.   How would you feel about a gently-used card game? For example, something I may have purchased several years ago and maybe played with my daughter *twice* before she became a moody teenager, and too cool for card and/or board games? Yes! Even less gently-used are ok by me! Alcoholic beverages in your goodies-- yay or nay-- if yay, what kind? Yummy! I am not a fan of bourbon. Or wine, I get migranes from wine. CANDY CORN--- YAY OR NAY? YAY! Name at least one thing that you really wouldn't like to receive in your package. Live scorpions. I wouldn't mind some taxidermy. I have eyeshadow pigments which have been decanted from--as in the powder tapped out into another container, never used directly. (I don't use very much makeup, though I love it, so I keep shadow pigments clean so I can safely share.) Would a jar of pigment handled thus bother you or are you ok with cosmetic-type stuff that has not been directly touched? Gimme! For those with fiber allergies, is it ok if you get, say, an ornament/amigur-whatsit yarn thing that has wool in the blend, as long as it's not something to be worn? Also, because I don't know, do people with wool allergies generally also have sensitivity to other fibers like alpaca? As long as its not touching my wrists or face, I should be ok! I'm not sure about other fibers like alpaca. I know wool bothers me, even the nice wool blends.   Does anyone especially like or want anything from cost plus/world market? I'm sure that I want everything from them both! I really am easy and I like getting things! YAY!   Does anyone need any small kitchen items or utensils? I don't "need" any. But I certainly would welcome some! YAY! Cute things are my favorites. (I have quite a few of the Animal House kitchen stuff.)   Dearest Pumpkin- do you have a preference of edible/drinkable vs. non edible items in your package? Would you prefer your package heavier on one side or the other? I like presents! I like things to eat and drink and things to not eat and drink. My package can be heavy on either side or right down the middle. Its all good to me!   Any guilty pleasures? TV show you're embarassed to admit you like? Musical group/preference that seems out-of-place for you? I have no shame. I like lots of crap! Ha ha ha ha ha ha!   And now, a new question: to sort of piggy-back onto the question about small kitchen items, do you like to bake or cook, and if yes, are there any special ingredients, spices, or decorations for baked goods (like sprinkles in seasonal shapes or those decorative picks you put on top of cupcakes, for instance) that you would like? Oh my! Yes! All of them! I like to bake and cook! I have many Christmas sprinkles and quite a few halloweenie ones. I should have more! And everyday ones! And spices and everything! The only thing I wouldn't know what to do with would be flavored vinegars. I don't care for vinegar. But if you already picked one out for me, just give me an idea of what to do with it and I will use it!   Hey, Pumpkin! How do you feel about lounge pants/pajama pants? I like them! I would need an 2X size. I am festively shaped....like a pumpkin!   Do you have long, medium, or short hair? What kids of hair accessories do you like to use? Yes! I have shoulder length hair right now. I go between all the lengths pretty regularily, so even if its not something I could use right now, I will be able to use later! I can get my hair in ponytails right now.

13 Nights of Halloween Round 2 Q's

What are your thoughts on yarn and handmade yarny things? I love handmade yarny things (and handmade in general); I also love yarn, but don't send any (unless you handdye something special) - my stash is overflowing.   For bath and body products: do you have a bathtub or shower? I haved both, but only use the shower, since I don't actually trust my bathtub to take a bath.   Dear Swappee: is there anything you might have forgotten to put on your survey? I'd like to be introduced to different comics, especially independent ones.   Are there any particular fandoms that you follow? I'm really only into Sailor Moon at the moment (I want all the merchandise), but I also really like Marvel and video games in general.   Do you own a wax/oil burner? (If no, would you like one?) I don't, and it's been on my 'to buy' list for years.   Would you like loose, fancy tea? I love loose, fancy teas. Fruity, black teas are my preference.   Incense, y/n? I'm going to pass this time   What is your favorite fall activity? I love when the weather starts to change and that 'fall' feeling arrives - the sun is still nice and bright but there's a definite nip in the air. I love going on walks in the later afternoon, early evening while.   I'm in Japan, anything specifically Japanese-y you want? Anything from traditional to 'kawaii'. Merchandise for Kill la Kill, Madoka, and Sailor Moon would be fantastic. I'm a big fan of the brand SWIMMER.   Please briefly describe (color, style, preferred type of beads) or provide a picture of (if it is suitable), the type of necklace (if any) you would be interested in getting. If you do not like necklaces, what kinds of jewelry (if any) would you want to wear? I like all types of jewelry. For necklaces, I tend to buy a lot of pendant type pieces.   What about hot chocolate/malt drinks? not really into hot chocolate and I don't believe I've tried a malt drink before If you said that you are interested in books (or DVDs or any relatively big standalone sort of item), would you be okay with having multiples of such items spread over a couple of days, or would you prefer 13 distinct themish packages? I'm a big book lover and wouldn't be unhappy with multiple books, but 13 distinct packages would be great as well   How into the day themeing mentioned in the first post are you? All themed? A few maybe if they are fun? Not at all? I wouldn't mind a few themed days   Speaking of DVDs - are you interested in receiving movies and if so, what sort?     Back to the books - if you said you would like books, would you prefer I send you, say, my favorite Halloween anthology or something else spooky/scary, or something off your wishlist/want-to-read on goodreads? Wishlist would be good. I would love to get a Halloween anthology, maybe that's not totally horror focused   Process question: Do you want to know who is sending to you right away, or would you prefer to be surprised on the last day, to the extent possible? Likewise, do you have a preference for specifically numbered packages or for reach in and grab according to your fancy? As long as I know who treated me at some point, I'll be happy. For packages, I don't have a preference.   Would you be interested in solid perfume? What about lip balm? I've only ever tried one solid perfume, so I wouldn't mind trying more. Yes to lip balm.   There was a lot of mention of not wearing costumes/not being allowed to at workplaces. Would you be interested in goth style or Halloween-themed(pumpkins, ghosts, etc.) normal clothes to wear instead, and what would be suitable? I sadly can't wear casual clothes at work, but wouldn't mind getting that sort of thing. Day of the dead/ Dia de los Muertos stuff? Yes

Frimp from the lab. I absolutely love Midsummer Night's Dream and have always wanted to try this. Unfortunately, it was rather disastrous.     In the imp: Faint sweet floral with a harsh chemical undertone.   Wet: YO, something went terribly wrong immediately. I don't know if it was the green note (?) or the pansy or the carnation (which hates me) or what, but I got almost no floral and a kind of awful wet swampy chemical smell. Husband said it was like bathroom air freshener from the eighties! Thankfully it didn't cause a headache, but this is really unpleasant.   Drydown: After a while it seems to get a little sweeter, but that awful chemical note remains, and I can't tell whether the perfume is sweetening or just fading. Weirdly, it also wears off very quickly but the nasty note hangs on and on and is really difficult to wash off. It smells something like floral hairspray.   Verdict: NO NO NO NO NO cat. Like someone else said, I wish I knew what notes were in this so I could avoid them forever, because something in this really doesn't go with my skin. I think it's probably a green note, beause those really really don't work on me, but usually they don't smell like some kind of awful spray.   Source: Love-In-Idleness

Spring Cleaning Swap Questions

So how do people feel about spare garden seeds? If it's herbs I would love 'em! I'm (hopefully) going to have a garden bed dedicated for herbs this summer and need some seeds for filling it!   Would you be interested in receiving fiber art supplies (like yarn, spinning fiber, etc)? Yarn probably not. Spare fabric would be loved however. I do a tea of the day post on instagram every day and like to have different fabrics for backgrounds each day.   Would you be interested in receiving beads and/or stones? (The stones are for wire wrapping...or just for looking pretty.) One can never have enough beading supplies I say.   Jewelry Please! I usually only wear stud earrings. Dangly stuff is ok as long as it is on a stud, not a hook.   Tea? YES! I know I should drink down more of what I have before getting more but being gifted with it doesn't count. Right? I love black, oolong, and pu'erh but am willing to try some whites and greens. Loose leaf is preferred but bags are ok too since they're easier to use at work.   Talismans and charms: No thank you   Do your pets need anything? I have two cats that would love small toys to bat around!   How about (unused) hair accessories (barrettes, fancy bobby pins, headbands, etc.)? I love flower clips   What about stickers, paper, paper, pens ect? Yesssssssss   Nail polish? If so, any particular colors? Triple yes! I can never get enough orange nail polish. Matte polish or topcoat is always usefull, holo is LOVED in any color, and I have a weakness for the new textured polish trend as well. I do enjoy indie brands but I'm not much of a glitter fan.   Would you want BPAL/BPTP stuff??? Do you have a wishlist? Or are you already so well-stocked with BPAL that getting more in a spring cleaning swap would be overkill? Overkill? What's that? Wishlist is in my sig as is my DISO. I have wishlists on the BPAL and BPTP sites as well that can be found with my username.   Are there any small household goods you always need and never can find when you need them? scotch tape rolls!   Would anyone want old CD's? Like 90's boy band type? No thank you   Ok what about wii games, like exercise ones or kids games? No thank you, we don't have a wii   Would you be alright with homemade baked goods, candies, etc? In moderation. One or two items would be ok.   How about baking/cooking supplies, like spices and such? Non-perishables like cookie cutters and muffin cups are always useful.   What about OCYL? Any other perfume companies you love or want to try? I wouldn't mind trying Villainess perfumes . . . or if you have any of their adorble ampule bottles that are empty . . .   Would you want soap/bath and body goodies? What companies do you love or want to try? No thank you   Are there any kitchen appliances or gadgets you'd like? nope   Are there any yarn-based, fabric-based, etc. objects you would like to receive? Scarves, shawls, tote bags...? stuffed toys for kids or pets? I love scarves and plushies (dragons, otters, red pandas, Ty beanies) and so do my kids   Do you dress-up/cosplay - if so, are there any items you need right now for fabrication? Any special accessories or fabric, supplies, etc? I am a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism which does Medieval recreation. Wooden plates and bowls as well as wood-handled or horn-handled utensils would be great. Linen or wool fabrics and medieval-style trim are always welcome. If you need any more ideas I have an SCA category in my Etsy wishlist. What I would most love are simple lampwork beads for the Viking garb I am putting together <3   Do you have an e-reader/tablet and would you be interested in e-books/games if I can figure out how to gift already purchased ones from my Kindle? No thank you   What about makeup/skin care? Are you interested in anything in that realm, provided it's new and all? I love eye-shadow and lipstick, especially in shades of peach and orange.   Would you be interested in recieving cute little containers? (I.E. having your items in mailing box also being inside tins or cloth jewelry baggies, ect.) Yes please! I have a weakness for stuff like that   If you would like CDs, what styles of music do you like and hate? Like steampunk, classic rock, instrumentals like The Piano Guys, Lindsay Sterling, Unwoman, and Michion.     Would you like some art for your walls? What styles do you like? No thank you. My husband and I are both artists so we have too many things to put up already Are there any staple type items you could use (that I might just have multiples of haha) likeCotton rounds, deodorant, shaving cream, body wash? Or travel size items? cotton rounds, q-tips/cotton swabs, crayons (for the kids)     Clothes! Anything you especially desire/lean towards, and what sizes would you like? My style tends to be a bit eclectic. I like full skirts - floor-length to just below knee-length, sarongs, babydoll tanks and tees. Size small.   Would you be opposed to mugs or other beverage recepticals? What are your preferences along those lines? I am looking for a new travel mug. It must be able to hold at least 12 fluid oz. I also collect teaware

Circular swap questions and answers

So it has come to my attention that I don't have one of these lists! Time to fix that. This post is a mishmash of questions pulled from various places and questionnaires.   Describe three things decorating your bed room/living space Bookcases, cat toys, and IKEA Helmers. Decorating is more than a little beyond me.   How do you feel about nail polish? Funny you should mention nail polish. The aforementioned Helmers? Are specifically for nail polish! Love it as long as it's a non-traditional color/finish like blue, green, glitter, holo, duochrome, etc. I don't wear pinks, reds, corals, nudes, or pretty much any other traditional, safe colors, and I'm not big on creams. I *loved* Urban Decay's early stuff!   Do you have any crafty hobbies where you might be able to use little related goodies? (beads, yarn, etc.) I occasionally (like once every two or three years) crochet scarves. I would love to learn how to knit, but other than that, I stopped doing my crafty hobbies a few years ago when my wrists were having problems even though they're doing better nowadays.   Collections? Black cats, bats, skulls, and rats. These are all year-round and everything (notepads, coffee mugs, stickers, whatever) loves. I'm also starting to collect robot magnets so I can have a ROBOT MAGNET ARMY on my fridge. So far, I have one.   Candles! Yea? Nay? Tarts? Neither. Open flames + my monsters = SINGED KITTY FACES. And smelling like burning.   Who's up for baking? No, thank you. I have a weird Thing with baked goods: Whether they're homemade or store-bought, they just sit there and never get eaten unless I take them to work and give them to coworkers. I have unopened Girl Scout cookies from last year.   Books! Physical or ebook, and anything in particular that you're looking for? Either! I don't have a Nook/Kindle, but I have an iPhone with a Kindle reader. I love left-leaning political books (Matt Taiibi! *swoon*), mysteries (I keep meaning to pick up some Chelsea Cain), and cookbooks. Oh, and Neal Stephenson (I only have _Snowcrash_ and _Zodiac_) and Neil Gaiman. And I would love to get more into graphic novels and comics that aren't Marvel or DC (current favorites: Irredeemable, Incorruptible, Chew, and A Voice in the Dark. I loved _Red Son_ because of the alternate take on the Superman mythos, but I'm really tired of the big universes in comics, so I'm looking more towards indies nowadays).   Any small things you could use? Hair claws. I have a *lot* of hair and have plenty of hair *ties*, but I'm now working on claws. I have *one*. Also office supplies: Things like fun pens, Post-Its, binder clips. I have a weird obsession with office supplies in general and pens in particular.   Do any of you also have a fondness for vintage bits and bobs? I like them, but they almost inevitably end up in storage.   Do you have an eReader? I have an iPhone with a Kindle app. Is that close enough?   How do you feel about other perfume etailers? As long as it's oil-based and not alcohol-based, it's fantastic! I have some stay-away notes, though: Vetiver, anything with the word "white," banana, aquatics, anything described as "airy" or "ethereal," civet, opium, anything evergreen-y, wood, benzoin, honey. Things I love: Red musk, black musk, citrus, violet, carnation, dragon's blood, fruit blossoms of pretty much every variety (but especially orange blossom and neroli!), non-white sandalwood, champaca, resiny stuff. I'm starting to love gardenia and jasmine, but it's slow going.   Other than fragrance oils/perfumes what is your number one (or a tie between 2-3) favorite type of toiletry or scenty item? Lotion (body butter and hand cream also get lumped into this) and bath oils that can be used in place of lotion. Dry skin like whoa over here. I can't use bar soap, though. So itchy!   Pirates or ninjas? Both! I live in an area with a rather legendary piratical past.   Zombies – love, hate, obsessed, don't care, think they're coming for us any day now, other immediate/passionate thoughts? Longstanding fascination but not anywhere near as obsessed as my brother. My favorite movie during the early '80s (until I saw _A Nightmare on Elm Street_ in high school) was _Night of the Living Dead_ (and yes, I'm still a horror fan!).   Favorite Disney villain? I'm not sure I have one. Maybe the Red Queen? I'm actually not a huge Disney fan in general, but I'm obsessed with all things _Alice in Wonderland_. Original book, tarot cards, coffee mugs, BPAL, SyFy adaptation -- you name it, if it's AiW, I love it! (Exception: The Tim Burton version. I don't *hate* it. I just don't *love* it.)   Is there any BPAL oil that you are dying to get your hands on? It doesn't have to be a rare, just something you really want to try? Not really. I have a bit of a take-it-as-it-comes stance on BPAL nowadays: I'll try whatever comes my way, but I've tried so many that I think I've tried all of the GC stuff I desperately wanted to try, and I haven't really been paying attention to the new stuff lately because I have tons of stuff I love already! (And then there's the part where the last several times there was a BPAL oil I wanted, it turned out I already had it in my collection.)   Do you want to see things in your box for your significant other/spouse/kids/fish/whatever? Or do you want to keep it allll about you? No spouse and no kids. Two kitties, though. Edgar is happy if something is sent in a box regardless of what it is or whether it's for him. He loves biting -- but not chewing -- the edges of boxes. Oscar loves mesh bags of stuff that he can flip around. He's currently playing with a random mesh drawstring bag with dried rose petals that he dug out of a box somewhere. He's been at it for about an hour. I will clearly be vacuuming once he finishes disemboweling it!   We've had a lot of questions about coffee and tea - how do you feel about other things? Cocoa, spicing for ciders, flavoring to add to water is what I mean? Yes! All of it!   Do you have a general swap-related help post somewhere? This is it.   Do you have Etsy/Amazon wishlists linked somewhere? Amazon: http://amzn.com/w/ZM7VETPCE38L Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/people/meaganola/favorites/items-i-love   Do you have a Tumblr/Pinterest you'd share with everyone (these can be really informative as to style?) Not really. I have both, but they're pretty much abandoned at this point. I don't think I've even *looked* at Pinterest in at least six months, and I have no clue how to use Tumblr.   Favorite candles, companies and/or candle scents? Candles are a no-go. I tend to go for BPAL Atmos sprays and incense when I want to scent my living space.   Favorite kinds of tea (flavors, companies) Pretty much all kinds, especially herbal, berry, and Earl Grey variations. Loose or bags, doesn't matter. Decaf preferred just so I can drink it ALL DAY. I'm not sure I have favorite brands because I tend to be able to find something I like from every brand! I drink a ton of Stash mainly because I have easy access to their company stores and can get every flavor they make year-round.   Any of the Villainess autumn or winter soaps appeal? Another soap company you'd like more? Bar soap and I do not get along. Shower gels are my thing. I would love to try pretty much any indie shower gel because that's where I want to start sending my bath products money!   Do you like knitted items? If so, any fiber sensitivities/allergies? What kinds of items would you like? Yes! And I seem to have outgrown my wool allergy! Hats, gloves, scarves, whatever!   Words, Numbers or Spatial manipulation? Words. I *love* crossword puzzles!   Anything you do NOT want? Banana anything. Scent, flavor, color -- hate it all.   What are some of your favorite Holiday symbols? Valentine's Day: I just like the color hot hot pink/fuchsia. I'm not sure there's a symbol for it that I gravitate towards. St. Patrick's Day: Everything. I make an exception for my hatred of the color orange once a year for this day. Easter: Bunnies! Halloween: Black cats, bats, rats, and skulls (I love Halloween!). Winter holidays: Snowflakes. It seems like things get glittery in the winter, and I love glittery stuff, too.   Bulk-Foods Section Goodies: Yea or Nay? Let's assume they're all individually packaged, and clearly labeled with what they are. Yay! I love the bulk section.   Would a mixed CD be something you would enjoy? If so, who are some favorite artists, what style of music do you enjoy, and/or would you prefer a valentine/romantic theme or general mix? Yes! I'm very much removed from the current music scene, although that's not for any particular reason. I've been listening to a lot of Billy Bragg, Thermals, Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, and Against Me! lately. I'm looking forward to March because that's when I break out ALL OF THE POGUES. I will listen to any style -- punk, rock, mid-20th century jazz (Charlie Parker! Dizzy Gillespie! Chet Baker! Dave Brubeck!), country (I tend to go for older stuff, like Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, and Willie Nelson), rap (especially lefty political stuff like Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions, and The Coup), folk music (my kind of punk owes its soul to Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie)... I'll listen to just about everything once. I'm not big on soft, romantic music. Or reggae.   Do you like incense? Yes! I currently use stick and cone. Resin kind of confuses me, although I would love to give it a shot if I had good instructions. I used to have a really neat powder incense burner -- Sweet Rock? Something like that -- and it would be neat to have one again, although I have no idea where I got it in the first place.   if I were to find a small bottle of alcohol, would you be interested, and if yes, of what? Sure! I'm not really particular on type of alcohol because I love to try new things, but local anything is fantstic (not just alcohol! Tea, incense, paper, magnets -- you name it, I'm interested!).   Dear Valentine, I will hopefully be going to Portland this weekend for the Rose Garden Arena Monster Jam (I'm having to work 7 days in a row at 14 hours each in order to get the weekend off specifically to go there) -- is there anything Portland related that you desire? A meet up! I'm already here!

sometimes i forget the description of a note, or it's new to me, so i am saving them here for my own reference.

ambrette seed

the seeds have a sweet, flowery, heavy fragrance similar to that of musk.

cistus

elemi
Canarium luzonicum, commonly known as elemi, is a tree native to the Philippines, and an oleoresin harvested from it. Elemi resin is a pale yellow substance, of honey-like consistency. Aromatic elemi oil is steam distilled from the resin. It is a fragrant resin with a sharp pine and lemon-like scent.

Frimp from the lab.     In the imp: Bubblegum, candy.   Wet: A blast of raspberries soaked in orange juice. Can't smell the neroli, so I think my skin, which amps citrus, is cranking the orange to eleven and drowning it out completely.   Drydown: Turns into fake sharply-sweet candy -- Sweet Tarts is about right. I don't know why someone would want to smell like this, really. It also fades insanely quickly on me -- within about half an hour it was almost impossible to smell.   Verdict: Glad it was a frimp.   Source: Akuma

The holiday's

The holiday's for me the last two years have been kind of, well blah. I lost my mom May 4th of 2011. Just before mothers day, shortly after I was told I had to have an emergency hysterectomy and I would not be able to have kids. A bit of a slap in the face, but life is like that sometimes. More and more my mind goes to what is the point. No kids, no family other than the DH so there is no purpose in the decorating, baking and such.   This year I do not know what happened, I for some reason have been trying to find a purpose in it. I signed up for a secret Santa on Reddit, then found I wanted to do more so signed up for re-matching. It felt good to know I was doing something for someone else who may have needed that extra thought of "there is someone else in the world thinking about you. You may not know me, but hey I am here.".   There are so many out there that hurt and are alone, I am not alone though sometimes I feel as though I am. It isn't from any kind of neglect but more from what feels like a hole in me. Reaching out this year has truly made a difference for me and I hope that I can make a difference to some one else. I am going to smile, do all the holiday things I did before when my mom was alive. Make extra candy, bake extra goodies then try to find someone to pass off homemade chocolate covered caramel filled marshmallows too, that aren't afraid I am trying to pull some "Flowers in the Attic" move on them.   To those of you out there that have already allowed me to be involved in your lives even the slightest bit, thank you. You have healed a small part of me that has left me looking forward to the next.
