Welcome

Well, now that I have found my new obsessions I wanted to set up something of a scent database here. So to train my nose and my vocabulary on how to describe the scents I like, so I can recognize the scents later on. To that end I've set up some tools to be of use to me. The first is a standard review format:     The second is to make use of the formal scent wheel - courtesy of wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fragrance_wheel As follows:

Yule 2008 testing, part 1

It's the Yules! Am writing more detailed notes in my imp journal, but here are some of my thoughts in summary about the Yules. I got a set of decants of all of them.   Le Pere Fouettard - I had to look up what 'gaufrette' was - a thin, fan shaped waffle wafer. Nice, not too foody at first, then whip leather makes an appearance, and gradually takes over the foodiness. When leather is at its strongest, the liquorice becomes known to my nose. An artful blend, but not something I would wear. There's A Certain Slant of Light - ozonic, barely there. Very little staying power on my skin, which is fine really, am not too fond of these sorts of blends, as they tend to smell very male-colognesque on me. It smells minty in the vial. Visiting the Temple of Auspicious Fortune Alone On the Winter Solstice - definitely get the rain at first! Wow! Then it gets musty, rather than dusty, and has an Eastern/Oriental feel. Much later it starts to get incense-ish. Again, not one I'd wear, or scent my environs with.   Lines Written Among the Euganean Hills - a more complex version of The Snow Maiden - sleety, chilly and berryish, but then it gets rather minty to my nose.   The Magi - I don't think I appreciate the complexity of this blend. I get the frankincense but it's too hard to tell what the other things are.   Perchta - has the characteristic BPAL chilly note, which is lovely. A hint of something spicy, then all the florals come out. Am keeping my imp. The Head of Holofernes - wine and pomegranate are evident at first. This is actually quite lovely, and will be keeping my imp. Don't so much detect other notes, and had to look up what onycha was! Butter Rum Cookie - just as the name says! Has almond, which is behaving on me (BPAL almond does not like me so much) but does get a little cloying after a while. It is yummy, though.   Gelt - wow, smells exactly like the coins. I love cocoa, and am surprised that the amber is quite muted in this blend. Will end up retesting.   Midnight Mass 2008 - am surprised it doesn't have more throw, but is really true to its name: smells exactly like mass incense. Be a nice blend to wear at nighttime. I actually got a bottle of this straight-off rather than just a decant.   Snow White 2008 - got 2 bottles by accident! No matter, it means I don't have to use sparingly, and will be my actual fragrance on Christmas Day.   Bottle-worthy: The Head of Holofernes, Midnight Mass 2008 (got bottle), Snow White 2008 (got 2 bottles). Keeping imps: Perchta, Butter Rum Cookie, Gelt.

SW questions 12/13

Aack! So far behind!   Also, my dear witch, you should know that I was just given an electric tart-warmer. Woot! So, if you were so inclined, you could send me melty stuff. I don't need any, as I was sent a bunch of tarts as well; I'm just sayin'.   Just time for a bit of a quickie, I'm afraid...   12/13 What is one REALLY expensive, completely outrageous thing you would LOVE to get but totally don't expect to ever get from anyone? Big-ticket items: a Toyota Prius or magical hybrid Subaru Forester; the house downtown that I fell in love with before the plan to buy a house fell through, magically air-lifted to a neighborhood where I wouldn’t worry about having people come over. (It’s not the sort of thing I normally worry about too much, but that’s unfortunately a genuinely violent part of town.) Medium-ticket items: a new iPod (the classic); BPTP stuff (the Batwoman ID case, a locket (either CD or the phoenix); new shoes (like these or these)... I think that’s about it...   Do you like coffee mugs? Travel or stay at home? How big? Do you like ones from Starbucks? I do like coffee mugs; I would prefer travel mugs; normal size; Starbucks often has cute ones, and I would not be opposed to them.   If you drink coffee, do you like whole bean coffee or prefer ground? What grind? What roast (mild, medium, bold, extra bold)? Do you like flavored coffee? I do drink coffee, but I would prefer not to receive any unless it’s in little sample packages, because I don’t go through it very quickly. I have a grinder; medium-ish roast; flavored is great!   Do you like tea? What kinds of tea (green, red, white, black, decaf, herbal infusions)? Feel free to get specific on brands and tea types. Loose or bagged? Do you need any kind of tea accessories? Pots/cozys/presses/strainers? Love tea; all of the varieties listed above are great. I don’t know if I have a strainer anymore, so I’d either need bagged tea or the appropriate accessories.   What is your favorite hot chocolate or drinking chocolate? Do you need Vegan or no? Don’t have a favorite and am happy to be surprised/enabled on that point. Don’t need vegan.   Do you need any decanting supplies? Pipettes? Vials? How about any wand caps? Roller bottles? Some spray bottles (for oils mixed with alcohol?) I think I’m okay on decanting supplies at the moment, but I might like to try out a roller bottle...

Snake Charmer

Resurrected Version - 2008   Sensual, sibilant, sexual and hypnotic: Arabian musk and exotic spices slinking through Egyptian amber, enticing vanilla, and a serpentine blend of black plum, labdanum, ambrette, benzoin and black coconut.   On, wet, this smells exactly like (aged!) Snake Oil on me. Aged Snake Oil lacks the note that goes extremely medicincal on me. I really like Snake Oil - but for the patchouli. It's much too dark for me. So, Snake Charmer smells exactly like that, minus that medicinical note. Good so far, but nothing I'd wear because if I did, I'd wear Snake Oil, ね? Drying, the scent gets lighter. The vanilla comes through now. There is something powdery lurking in the background (amber I guess), but I start to congratulate myself for buying this.   Now, a couple of more minutes into the drying process, the vanilla is dominant. Now, what does this remind me of? Ack! I guess I still get the Snake Oil vibe, but... different. Hm! I start thinking this is really like I hoped it would be: Snake Oil, without the dark patchouli vibe. There is hope! It smells so eerily familiar but I can't convince my brain that this is the Snake Oil I'm smelling. My brain tells me that it reminds me of something else but I just can't come up with WHAT. It's vanilla, dark vanilla now. The darkness comes from something I'd say is the patchouli but without the cloying attribute to it. It's just dark, exactly right. Hah!

a couple of Conjure Bag oils

Last night was horrible. I felt horribly unhappy and unloved, and invisible. Given that I have a mood disorder, trying to talk myself out of it was not working.   Originally I was going to send a friend of mine who feels that his life wasn't going so well two imps - that of Dove's Heart and High John the Conqueror but lately he seems to have forgotten about me.   So I used them on myself: after all, I am (still) heartbroken and though it's getting easier with time, there are those days where it just hurts like almighty feck.   Before finally settling to sleep, I slathered both of those oils on me, and this following morning, I feel so much better. My mind feels clearer, my thoughts are more calm and positive. I feel like I feel when I'm well.   So yeah, those are on my wishlist, haha. Especially Dove's Heart, which I can still smell.   Edit: Water of Notre Dame is even better than High John the Conqueror on me.

Even more randomness...

How do you feel about winter-themed but not really holiday type decorations? Things like snowflakes and fake icicles and the like? Those are all very good!   Do you have a personal 'Good Luck' charm? Maybe you have a goddess figure to remind you of your Inner Goddess, or maybe you have a beautiful Cross to represent your faith...Or maybe you wear a Hand of Fatimah for protection....That kind of thing. Not really, although I don't tend to leave the house without wearing my Cheshire Cat locket and silver bracelets.   If you were to attend Hogwarts, into which House would you be sorted? Gryffindor... Would you be interested in some knitted wire jewelry, like this? Sure   This is kind of a getting-to-know-you-type-thingie, but I always find it illuminating--what's on your computer desktop? Images? Color scheme? A Tori Amos desktop wallpaper from the American Doll Posse album and colour scheme is silver/grey.   What do you collect...besides BPAL? I don't really actively collect anything although I've ended up with loads of things with sheep on them. Anyone a fan of Goddess art? Yes, just nothing overly tacky... I like the more darker ones - Nene Thomas especially. Anyone else a Luis Royo fan? Who?! What are your favorite websites (i.e., the ones you visit every day, or almost every day)? bpal.org, Live Journal, Facebook, Possets forum, Gmail, icanhazcheezburger (lolcats), a couple of news sites and others   How do you feel about Lush? Anything you want to try? Like them although the soaps haven't impressed me (compared to Villainess or Arcana etc.) I love their Karma fragrance and everything in that scent. Interested in trying more of their face stuff, I tried Angels On Bare Skin and that didn't really work for me. Can't really use bath bombs or bubble bars or the shower emotibombs either. I'm a fan of their shampoo bars and Jungle conditioner. How do you feel about home made lip balm, salt or sugar scrubs, soap, bath salts, etc? All good as long as you know what you're doing with them, I don't want anything that will kill me.   if you were to receive a hand-knitted item, what color(s) would you prefer AND are there any types of yarn that you just cannot handle (e.g. wool, llama, etc.) Black, grey or purple would probably be best. Wool is ok as long as it's not super itchy. Do you like coffee mugs? Travel or stay at home? How big? Do you like ones from Starbucks? Not for coffee but for tea, yes! A travel mug would be amazingly useful for taking my own tea to uni.   If you drink coffee, do you like whole bean coffee or prefer ground? What grind? What roast (mild, medium, bold, extra bold)? Do you like flavored coffee? No coffee for me please!   Do you like tea? What kinds of tea (green, red, white, black, decaf, herbal infusions)? Feel free to get specific on brands and tea types. Loose or bagged? Do you need any kind of tea accessories? Pots/cozys/presses/strainers? Yes, love tea. Chai, roobois, flavoured black tea, herbal infusions and tisanes, love them all. Starting to prefer loose, they just taste so much better now that I'm used to them. Black tea is ok bagged though because that's just so much easier. What is your favorite hot chocolate or drinking chocolate? Do you need Vegan or no? Just ordinary ones or flavoured ones, too. Not vegan but vegetarian please. Do you need any decanting supplies? Pipettes? Vials? How about any wand caps? Roller bottles? Some spray bottles (for oils mixed with alcohol?) Would love vials and pipettes although I have a stash left still from when Wren08 was still selling them. Would also love to get some rollerballs - about 3-5 ml size and glass. I don't use spray bottles or wand caps.   I wanted to ask a question: are there any rare (or even uber-rare) scents that you'd really like to try? Bakeneko, Champagne & Roses, Storyville, Crypt Queen, Orange, Noir... I'm not that fussed about rares, though - I'd rather get a full bottle of something more easily obtainable LE or a GC so that I can actually enjoy wearing them rather than just having a drop in the vial...   Does your forum name have a special significance? Refer to something or someone you admire? Reflect your interests? Come on, spill! It's from the Tori Amos song "Etienne Trilogy". I know it's a male name really but who cares... I also like the "look" and sound of it - it's simple enough and actually to me looks feminine because it ends with an "e" but I'm sure there's no logic to that...   What's your favorite texture? A cat. Soft things mostly. If it's to touch, obviously, and not to eat or something... (in which case a cat wouldn't be the right answer!)   What's one luxury item you want to pamper yourself with but haven't yet? I don't think there's anything in particular... I have no self-restraint and if I want something, I'll usually end up getting it sooner or later. Well expect the travel mug, actually. (Like a thermos style one that I could carry to uni with me.) Do you prefer arm warmers to the wrist, to the base of the fingers, or half fingered? Base of fingers with a thumb hole for winter, or to the wrist if they're more lighter ones. Any favorite cartoon characters? Disney, Sanrio, etc? Not really into cartoon characters much.   Have you (or maybe the younguns in your family) been exposed to the Webkinz craze? No   Who's your favorite playwright? I don't think I have a favourite really...   Anyone into physical activities? For instance- I'm training to become a Combat Archer in the SCA, and something I would use would be an Archers glove...is there anything you do as a sport/hobby in which you might need equipment? Not really no.   Are there any witchy type supplies you're in need of, or would like to try etc.? Herbs, smudge sticks, resins, tarot/oracle cards, incense burners, pretty tools, stuff like that? Resins and stuff for burning loose incense is always welcome.   How do you like your chocolate? White, milk, bittersweet, as dark as possible? Plain, with flavoring, with chunks of stuff in? Fairly traditional, or weird and experimental? Prefer milk, flavourings or stuff inside is good - truffels or nougats or the strawberry ones from Quality Street. Experimental is good too.   Favorite animals? Least favorite? Favourites: cats, dogs, sheep - Least favourite: spiders, rats How do you feel about Heifer International? Or do you have other favorite charities not mentioned in your application? I don't know who they are... All no-kill cat rescue places are good. So for all witches of the shimmying types- would you like tassel belts/jingle belts/ ect and if so, how big are your hips? Not a shimmying type... What are 3 places that you'd like to visit, or re-visit? New York, Stonehenge, Paris Literary erotica. Who doesn't love it? Can't say I've read much of it but sure, sounds good.   Are you planning on buying anything off your BPAL wishlist during the round? No, not from the wishlist but possibly from the next lunacy and more Snake Charmer and Lines Written Among the Euganean Hills. Do you read graphic novels/comics? Which ones? No   Which witches would want Bpal boxes? Or imp cases? I might have said before that I don't need boxes but actually my collection is expanding so a bottle for my non-BPAL bottles would be amazingly helpful to make room for more BPAL in the usual box where I keep it. I'm a-okay for imp storage. How about a short - or longer - piece of fanfic? Not really very me I don't think... What is the weirdest and/or most practical thing you are not buying for yourself right now? The thing that you probably should be buying, but have been putting off in lieu of something else? Hehe, the travel mug gets a 3rd mention (although I might get one for my own witchee actually!). Would you like handmade piece of calligraphy as a gift? Sure if my witch does calligraphy.   What jewelry are you wearing now? What jewelry do you wear everyday-or do you change jewelry all the time? Right now just my Cheshire Cat locket. On a daily basis: the locket, 2 silver bracelets my mum got me, a silver snake ring, my black/silver watch and a pair of earrings from my huge collection of mostly self-made earrings. Boxes, baskets, etc.? Anything for storing things is always good in this household.   Chia Pet, do you need one? What are they? Probably not... Houseplants and/or things to put them in: thoughts? No, the cat would eat plants if I had them. Except maybe grass for cats...   Do you like baskets, jars and other interesting containers? Filled or Empty? Sure, filled or empty is fine, I'm sure I could soon enough empty it if it was filled with chocolate for example.

more bottle culling

Up on the chopping block:   Faith - I was wrong to think I could even get rid of this. My bottle is only a third full, and I'm contemplating getting another.   Beaver Moon 2007 - like Eat Me but with red fruits, plummier. Don't think I can part with this either.   Vampire Tears - I like the jasmine and the pink grapefruit, but am torn about this. It's a maybe.   Kanishta -after trying these, best try all the Indian-scented in one and compare them accordingly.     Keep: Faith, Beaver Moon 2007 Retest: Kanishta, compared to her own 'Indian-similar' fragrances in my collection Retest: Vampire Tears

imp testing Sat 20/12/08

Nanshe - smells like lemon balm at first, then becomes a lemon scent that sort of gives me a bit of a headache. However, I do know that this is supposed to do something, so wore it nevertheless overnight. Oddly, I didn't recall my dreams though slept a bit better than usual, so don't know if it helps with the interpretation of dreams. I suspect that this is something you have to use over an extended period of time?

SW winter 08/09 answers to questions

What's on my key ring? In addition to keys I have a braided piece of horse tail hair, wrapped in beads, and a black metal kitten.   Arm measurements? Wrist 6 1/4 inch, right below elbow 10 inches   Personal Good Luck charm? Hubby and I used to each have a "Croix du Sud" on a leather string around our necks. We trekked through Morocco for a month when we were dating. It was our first time away together and kindof a test if we could deal with each other. We're married now, so I guess we passed the test. We spent a lot of time in the northern Sahara desert with the Berbers and picked up the Croix du Sud from them. They use it to guide their way through the desert at night. Husband's broke after wearing it daily for about 6 years, but he still has it in a drawer. I lost mine.   The Hogwarts Sorting Hat would say... Hufflepuff!   Knitted wire jewelry? They rock!   What's on my desktop? a picture of my firstborn...... goat, that is. Her name is Trouble (well-deserved name), and she is laying in black rubber feed trough looking really cute.   What do I collect, besides BPAL? Other perfume oils, yarn, books. Animals (sigh)         How do you feel about Lush? Anything you want to try? I keep hearing about Lush but have never tried any of it. I'm a sucker for yummy smelling hairproducts (although I never use any gels, mousses, or hair sprays), nice hand and/or body creams (Colorado dry weather is murder on my skin and especially notorious for giving me hangnails while I'm knitting), body butters and scrubs, shower gels and bath bubbles. I really enjoy dark resinous blends and fresh & fruity scents.   Do you want to try the Will Call only Champagne scents? The only one which really intrigued me was Champagne and Cigars, and I have a bottle coming my way from Mr. S. If my witch was planning on surprising me with any of the Champagne scents, please don't. There are so many other people she could make insanely happy with those, and I'm all set.   Would you please share your favorite e-card site? I am so horrible with e-card sites. I've just discovered the joy of sending e-cards, so I'm going by what other people have recommended, don't have any great finds of my own.   Do you play on-line games? Which one and which server? Do you need any funds/equipment/help adventuring? I've never been able to play online games due to our slow rural internet connection causing too much of a lag time for that sort of playing. My favorite video games are Halo, Elder Scrolls, Tombraider, and Myst.   Do you have traditional holiday movies you like to watch? Nope   What are your "guilty pleasures" type movies? That you really secretly like but don't like to admit to it? Probably disaster type movies.   What are your favorite websites (i.e., the ones you visit every day, or almost every day)? Ravelry, NA, CP, My Yahoo, Wikipedia, Youtube, PandoraRadio, dutch and norwegian online newspapers. Oh, and BPAL of course.   Anyone a fan of Goddess art? I like it, but I don't go out of my way to find any.       Do you like coffee mugs? Travel or stay at home? How big? Do you like ones from Starbucks? I don't drink coffee, but husbeast does. We have a senseo machine, so mugs can't be too tall or else they won't fit in the machine. I have a couple of travel mugs, but they are collecting dust in the cupboard.   Do you like tea? What kinds of tea (green, red, white, black, decaf, herbal infusions)? Feel free to get specific on brands and tea types. Loose or bagged? Do you need any kind of tea accessories? Pots/cozys/presses/strainers? Tea is my friend. It makes me pee a lot, but it's still my friend. I like all kinds of fruity teas and Earl Grey, but no rooibos or chai please.   If you drink coffee, do you like whole bean coffee or prefer ground? What grind? What roast (mild, medium, bold, extra bold)? Do you like flavored coffee? See above.   What is your favorite hot chocolate or drinking chocolate? Do you need Vegan or no? My Starbucks fix is hot chocolate. I always make them skip the vanilla syrup which they add to sweeten it up; I like my chocolate strong and a little bitter.   Do you need any decanting supplies? Pipettes? Vials? How about any wand caps? Roller bottles? Some spray bottles (for oils mixed with alcohol?) I would absolutely worship the ground you walk on for some decanting supplies. Pipettes and vials would be awesome, and I'm really liking the wandcap that came with a swapped bottle, so yes please! I'm set on roller bottles and I'm not anticipating needing any spray bottles (mixing BPAL with alcohol??? the heresy!)   How do you feel about home made lip balm, salt or sugar scrubs, soap, bath salts, etc? What kind of flavors and notes do you like? I would love to receive some. My fav lip balm is Blistex Silk & Shine, but I'm always game for expanding my comfort zone. I love salt and sugar scrubs (CocoaPink gets much of my mullah), I'm not that interested in bath salts, though (prefer bubbles). I love Vanilla Sandalwood, musks, patchouli, citrus and other fruity goodness.   Sooooo.....if you were to receive a hand-knitted item, what color(s) would you prefer AND are there any types of yarn that you just cannot handle (e.g. wool, llama, etc.) I have never received anything handknit before and I would love to! I can wear all kinds of yarn, but mohair and angora sometimes give me sneezing fits if there's a lot of fuzz flying around. Fav colors are pink, purple, blue, naturals (please no orange, yellow, or green if it's going to be on anything above my knees; those colors make me look sick).   So, in the spirit of such things, what is one REALLY expensive, completely outrageous thing you would LOVE to get but totally don't expect to ever get from anyone? I can't think of anything to be honest. I'm happy as a clam and there is nothing that says OhMiGawd-I've-Got-To-Have-It-Now.       Who were your favorite Buffy and Angel characters? None of them, I've never watched the show   Webkinz? Nope. I sense a theme here; it's the episode in which we all discover how tragically unhip Luna is when it comes to tv and web schtuffs.   Any favorite cartoon characters? Disney, Sanrio, etc? Point in case.   What's your favorite texture? A tough one. I like all kinds of texture; soft as silk, fuzzy as a kitten's fur, smooth as glass or ice.   What's one luxury item you want to pamper yourself with but haven't yet? Honestly, I'm pretty fortunate and don't often find myself lusting for something. Of course, that was before I saw Champagne and Cigars. Crap!   Alright witches, who is ordering the Moon of the Terrible oil? Don't think so, it sounds like it probably wont work on me, but the t-shirt will be mine thanks to the lovely Ahania who is adding mine to her order! MuaH!   Does your forum name have a special significance? Refer to something or someone you admire? Reflect your interests? Come on, spill! Lunaliquid is my first and only screen name since 1997. I was feeling a little sad when I had to sign up with a name. It was a full moon and I was crying. Voila LunaLiquid. Later I named my farm and horse breeding business Agua de Luna (because andalusians are spanish horses, and llamas speak spanish too).   Physical activities? Need equipment? I have the Wii fit with all I need and a gym membership that has been sorely neglected lately. What I need is a good kick in the butt!   are there any rare (or even uber-rare) scents that you'd really like to try? I want to know everyone's BPAL holy grail! ChampNCigs, original Hexennacht (to compare), Skadi, Mabon, Ivanushka, and Torture King.       What are 3 places that you'd like to visit, or re-visit? New Zealand (the only place my mom lived that I didn't get to visit), Palau (always wanted to go scubadiving there but it's so far away), Antigua Guatemala (we got married there, and I'd love to go back and relive the moment).   What cartoons did you grow up watching? Any animated shows you still watch? None! My parents didn't think cartoons were educational enough, so those were forbidden items in our house. Le Sigh. Once in a while I'd read a Donald Duck magazine if I was at a friend's house, but that's about it.   Do you read graphic novels/comics? Which ones? Nope, see above.   Favorite animals? Least favorite? ::Giggles:: Favorite animals are dogs, cats, horses, goats, llamas (but they're very hard to love since they're so aloof), all kinds of monkeys and apes, the Moose is my totem animal, tigers (I had a fun relationship with a tiger when I worked at the Amsterdam Zoo), dolphins (I got to swim for ages with wild dolphins off the coast of Bimini and it had a profound impact on me), and kinds of other critters. Least favorite animal: coyotes, only because they want to eat my cats and goats, but I can't really blame them for that.   How do you feel about Heifer International? Or do you have other favorite charities not mentioned in your application? I love Heifer Intl. and we usually donate to them along with Salvation army, Red Cross, the BOS (Borneo Oranutang Rescue Foundation) and the Tso Pema Medical Fund.   So for all witches of the shimmying types- would you like tassel belts/jingle belts/ ect and if so, how big are your hips? I'm not really a belt wearer. Most of the time I wear my BPTP yoga pants and on the rare occasion I get to go into town I don't really wear a belt either. Sorry.     Do you like honey? Will you like to try creamy honey with black sesame or with cinnamon powder? Sorry, I'm not averse to honey, but it's not one of my favorite things either....   Who are your forum friends, person or people your witch can contact for ideas? I don't know that many people yet, but Ahania and Wildbriar have been to my house once for a Meet and Sniff. The person I used to communicate the most with is The_Witching_Hour, but she seems to have fallen off the edge of the earth and isn't answering my concerned PMs. If anybody knows her, please let me know she's okay? I be worried.   Houseplants and/or things to put them in: thoughts? I have a green thumb and I love all kinds of plants. There are many big plants in my living room, and I grow my own vegetables both in my garden and in my greenhouse. I do have a multitude of plant containers already though, and for outdoor plants I need to make sure they'll thrive in my type of climate. My first year here I planted a dutch garden like used to have back home, and every single plant died due to the harsh climate. I live at 7,000 feet elevation with night frost as late as June, very dry summers with strong winds and big temperature swings. I'd really like a poinsettia this year, but with a new puppy who explores with her teeth I've been holding off on purchasing one because of their toxicity. I just bought an amaryllis yesterday so I at least have a little Christmas cheer in plant form now. This is also my first year with a fake Christmas tree! I don't remember if I already wrote this in a different answer, but I'm pretty set in my tree decoration; silver, glass, and white. No blinking, multi-colored lights and no weird rotating reindeer. Boring, yes I know.   Do you like baskets, jars and other interesting containers? Filled or Empty? I have tons of little boxes that I was thinking of decoupaging and sending along... Boxes! I loves me some boxes! Imp cases! I have the witches BPTP imp case and use it every day.   New question: Shoe size? Style of shoe preferred? Any interest in slippers? 8.5 - 9 (european 39) depending on the shoe. I practically live in my crocs. Other favorite brands are Ariat (mules, boots), Uggs and Dansko. I've been eyeing the Fluvogs, but need to save up for that. I knit my own slippers.   how about everyone else-what jewelry do you wear everyday-or do you change jewelry all the time? I only wear my wedding band and other rings when I go out. Rings tend to get in the way when I'm doing my chores. Usually I wear 2 silver bracelets, earrings (either small studs or dangly ones) and I do wear a necklace du jour or lavalliere (I have the BPTP brimstone locket and love it!)   New question: Does anyone get help from significant others, children, or others not involved in the forums on their Switch Witch? Nope, husbeast rolls his eyes at this stuff.   Would you like a handmade piece of calligraphy as a gift? It would be cool, but I don't know if I'd know what to do with it though.   How about a short - or longer - piece of fanfic? I'm not sure what fanfic means.....   here's one for my fellow switch witches: What is the weirdest and/or most practical thing you are not buying for yourself right now? The thing that you probably should be buying, but have been putting off in lieu of something else? That's a tough one. The faucet in my kitchen is giving me the fits, but that's more a deal with getting the husbeast to fiddle with it. I've never gotten around to getting a decent bra fitted. I hate bras, but I have to wear them. Can't stand underwires, but I need more support than what a wireless (LOL) bra can give me.     Question: do you like to cook? if so, what? Would you like things like spices, cookbooks, recipes, tips? I love to cook! My spice cabinet overfloweth, and if it wasn't alphabetized (OCD?) I wouldn't be able to find a single thing. I'm the proud owner of hundreds of cookbooks, but only use them to gather ideas most of the time. I really love to "wing it" in the kitchen. It turns out great most of the time, but once in a while it becomes a disaster of epic proportions. You live and learn. I'd love to get recipes on just about anything   What Winter Holiday do celebrate? I celebrate Christmas, or "Jul" as it's called in my house. It involves LOTS of food on Christmas Eve (pork roast with the skin still on, which becomes nice and crispy under the grill, cooked potatoes, red cabbage, brown sauce, 13 different types of cookies, etc). We open our gifts on the Eve after dinner and cleaning up the kitchen. Then we hit the table again around noon on Christmas Day and spend the whole day eating (herring, spareribs, ham, salted and smoked leg of lamb, etc etc). Yeah, just stick it right on my hips! Now that it's only husbeast and my mom and myself we'll not go terribly overboard, but still. It's a lot of food. Burp!   Do any of you like puzzle books? In theory yes, but I've had the same sudoku book in my bathroom now for over a year and don't really use it.   Are there any other forums that you frequent? Ravelry, Nocturne Alchemy, CocoaPink, Lush. But other than Ravelry I'm not that vocal. And ARGHH I just googled Lunaliquid; there's pages and pages of liquid soap dispensers, a few impostors using my name (srsly, I've had this name online since 1997), and porn   What is the biggest problem or sad thing in your life? Of course, I mean the saddest or worst thing you can confess here. Uhm, about 2 years ago I herniated 3 discs in my back. I've seen several neurologists and they all want me to get 3 levels fused, but I'm not really keen on that right now. It made me have to close my practice (I'm a veterinarian) and I haven't been able to ride my horses in quite a while. My daily life on the farm has its challenges since there's no way I can avoid having to schlepp around with a couple hundred pounds of hay on a daily basis, or scoop up wheelbarrow loads of poop. I was doing pretty well with a personal trainer a while back, but she pushed me too hard and injured both my shoulders. Now I have the Wii Fit and could probably use a witch who would give me a kick in my butt to actually USE the darned thing. I just have to be really careful with what I do and how I do it. It doesn't help that I had all my plumbing taken out when I was 33, and I'm coming up on 10 years now without any hormones in my body. My body is old, but my mind isn't! Other than my health I'm actually pretty happy and content, and I'm not a person to sit around and mope. I guess I'd love my witch to be a motivator and a random jokester?     Christmas music? In small doses. I would probably have to tear my hair out if I worked in retail this time of the year.   Favorite drinks to keep myself warm and toasty? No coffee, chai, or mochas for me. My whole life I've wanted to me able to drink that stuff (it would have come in so handy while I was pulling allnighters to study) but alas one sip makes me puke. However, I have the biggest tea collection this side of China and I love unsweetened hot chocolate (at Starbucks I get them to skip the vanilla syrup they usually add to their hot choc.)   Foreign music? I like some french music (Les Charmeurs, Guesch Pati), spanish music (flamenco, Paco de Lucia, Paco Pena, etc.), african music (yussuf n'dour, etc.) and middle eastern music (ofrah haza and middle eastern inspired trance and chillout music), but I don't really enjoy chinese and japanese music. My mom used to live in Hong Kong and I traveled quite a bit in that region. Love the food, but not so much the music. Sorry. Unless it's the tibetan monks' throaty chants. Those are cool.   Handmade jewelry or the beads to make them myself? Tough one. I have a pretty sizable bead collection but rarely take the time to sit down and make something. I'm also not that good at finagling those tiny joins. But I love beaded jewelry and would be very happy with something my witch made for me. Please make sure though, that it won't pull out the hair in my neck. I've made a few chains myself that ended up tangled horribly in the hair and I finally had to cut some of my hair off to get my freedom back. So you see, I'm not terribly skilled in jewelry making. What I would be absolutely squeeing for joy with receiving is funky buttons. Art buttons, polymer clay buttons, glass buttons, norwegian pewter clasps, etc. Stuff that I can incorporate into my knitting designs.   Candy/sweets No cinnamon candy please (what's with this odd fascination of americans to put cinnamon in gum and candy? Don't y'all know that cinnamon should only be used in real food? Like in cinnamon rolls and stuff? ) I LOVE dubbelsalted licorice (dubbelzoute drop in dutch), turkish pepper (salmiak), haribo's gummibears, and all things sour. Caramels are a particular weakness, especially the ones that are covered in CHOCOLATE!   Steampunk? Not really my style, sorry   Cat hair? I see cat hair, they're everywhere! With 4 cats and 3 dogs in the house I'm pretty much covered in it, and I didn't have the wisdom to at least pick 4 cats of the same colorway, so it shows on absolutely everything. Come to think of it, it might be a good idea to not make my witchee a person with allergies. I vacuum almost every day, but it's impossible to remove all evidence of my furbabies.   D&D/roleplay? Not really into it.   Which witches would like hair accessories: clips, scrunchies, hairsticks, headscarves, etc? Me, me, me! I have almost waist length very thick hair and I always need to put it up, up, and away. I found some really nifty hairclips that I'm itching to try http://www.flexi8.com The only thing I haven't had success with is head scarves. Either I don't know how to tie them correctly or I'm just doomed to look weird wearing them.   Yarn Heck ya! I do prefer natural materials, and I can't really knit with cotton without it really bothering my hands.   Hand beaded jewellery, yay or nay? Yay!   To make up for the fact that I probably won't be able to send my witchee homebaked goodies, will Tim Tams in any number of varieties be an acceptable replacement? I've heard them mentioned several times on the forum, but don't know what they are made of. If they're made with malt or mocha then probably not, but if they're fruity, chocolaty and/or caramelly then I'm all in!   Is there any time during the holidays (or the rest of the round) when you'll be away from home for a significant period and it'd be best not to send anything by mail? Nope, stuck at home. I have my mom here visiting for 6 (gulp) weeks, and she has emphysema and heart failure. I have the sneaking suspicion that she wasn't really honest with me when she said her doctors had given her they thumbs up and "gave their permission" for her to fly from Holland (which is below sea level) to Colorado (I live at 7,000 feet). So yeah, I'm kinda stuck at home for the foreseeable future. Don't get me wrong; I love the fact that she is able to visit, but I'm scared out of my mind that she won't survive this stay.         Would you like to receive ATCs (artist trading cards) or would you prefer something more usable, like bookmarks or something? Bookmarks would be great. I always have a book or two in progress on my night stand.   What witch would like a cloak? I would love a cloak!   Since we're talking about warm winter wearables, who likes hats? Mittens? Arm warmers? I've knit a million of those myself, so I'm all set for now.   If your witch were to send you cookies, what kind of cookies would you like? I love chocolate, and I love almond. I absolutely would squee if I were to receive coconut macaroons.   Who likes tshirts? What about homemade tshirts? Heck ya! XXL to fit teh beewbs. Can't wear yellow, green, or orange as they make me look like death warmed over, my favorite colors are purple, grey, pink, naturals, and black.

Getting caught up

How do you feel about winter-themed but not really holiday type decorations? Things like snowflakes and fake icicles and the like? Love 'em   Do you have a personal 'Good Luck' charm? Maybe you have a goddess figure to remind you of your Inner Goddess, or maybe you have a beautiful Cross to represent your faith...Or maybe you wear a Hand of Fatimah for protection....That kind of thing. I have one of my grandmother's crosses that I wear when I am feeling really down.   If you were to attend Hogwarts, into which House would you be sorted? I'd like to say Ravenclaw but it would most likely be Gryffindor.   Would you be interested in some knitted wire jewelry, like this? Sure.   This is kind of a getting-to-know-you-type-thingie, but I always find it illuminating--what's on your computer desktop? Images? Color scheme? The XP fall picture. I haven't changed the desktop on my laptop in ever.   What do you collect...besides BPAL? Didn't I answer this somewhere?   Anyone a fan of Goddess art? I love images of women, in beautiful poses, strong women, powerful women (No- Not Hilary ROFL) I like dark, vampire types too, not *too* dark- okay for general consumption type art too. Yes.   Anyone else a Luis Royo fan? Never heard of him.   What are your favorite websites (i.e., the ones you visit every day, or almost every day)? Yahoo, Livejournal, gofugyourself, youtube, bpal.org, amazon.

imp testing Fri 19/12/08

The Lab gave me squillions of imps and so I've started testing them. Les Bijoux - bah, hates me. Reason? Rose. I can smell a lot of the other notes, but not the ones I love. Yeah, red apple doesn't much like me either. Sigh.   Intrigue - ooh, this is sexy, in a very understated way. A little too dry for me, though the fig does sweeten it up ever so slightly. I don't detect the cocoa which was a bit disappointing. I won't keep it but would love to see what it smells like the on menfolk.   Sin - a much less intense version of Smut I feel! But no throw on me, odd given that Smut has amazing throw on me. Wanted to keep my decant, but it dried to nothing on me and became crayonish. Shame.   Amsterdam - I don't know what tulips smell like, but this is lovely, it's a very fresh floral, sort of green yet watery too.   Sri Lanka - first is fresh sandalwood, then incense-like sandalwood mixed with cedar. The cedar is nice too, but this has such a gorgeous sandalwood. It stops smelling so sandalwood-laden, however.

SW questions

Is there a fashion style you have been lusting over? Not really. I always think that fashionable clothes won't look good on me. Well actually, I really wanted a new Gujarati dress and also a mauve sweater and I just got both. I would love new shoes but I see nothing I like.   Favourite artists or art styles? Klimt, the classic Spanish ones, impressionism (Monet, Toulouse Lautrec and Van Gogh in that order), anything that has to do with Glasgow / Scotland. What I like the most about modern / abstract art is sculpture.   What magic superpower? Multiplying myself.   Necklaces or bracelets? Earrings.   What do you want from the Lupercalia update? I asked for everything in a decant circle because right now I don't want to look carefully at the whole list for days, pick three or four very slowly.... I'm suprised at how many nice things this update had. No Bony Moon for me though - cedar and I don't get on.   How often does untested BPAL work on you? According to my database, I have tried 388 scents, of which I have swapped 133 away. I gave away 13 others to The Boy. That means that about 80% works well. Having said that; I only swap away the absolute disasters.   Do you like mythical/fantastical creatures? Which ones? I love mythologies, but I tend to prefer creatures with a name and a role in a story (say, Greek gods). I must be the only person in the whole forum who is not very interested in fairies.   Incense: I'm curious about the handmade, thick sticks. I like experiments and I prefer warm scents.   Candles: I like to use them, so I hate candles that don't burn properly (decorative candles that melt badly).   Disney: I think I'm the average person of my generation (I'm 31). I loved Disney classics as a Christmas treat, and then I grew out of it. I still like some of the classics, particularly musicals (Mary Poppins, Snow White and Fantasia are probably the only Disney classics I wouldn't mind watching this evening). I have no interest in any Disney post-Beauty and the Beast, excluding Pixar.   Who is your favorite villain of all-time? Phew.... It's hard to choose. I owe some letters after my name to Sikes and Mr Murdstone, so let's say them. And Iago. And Richard III. And Humbert Humbert. And Desire in Sandman. And every character in Trainspotting.   On different ways to scent a room: for some reason, I don't like the idea of room sprays, but maybe I haven't found the right one yet. Some scented candles give me headaches so I'm scared of them, in general. I like to scent plain candles with BPAL (my favourite decadent way to use up old imps). The Boy loves incense; I like it.   If you could subscribe to every magazine you wanted, money no object, what would your list of magazines that would decorate your coffee table be? I think that the same magazines I mention in the original questionnaire: the English editions of Good Housekeeping and Marie Claire, Good Food, may be something else about food or feminism.   Do you speak any languages besides English? How fluent are you? Would you be interested in literature in a foreign laguage - phrase books, fiction, childrens stories? Spanish is my native language. My English is good enough to look native, most of the time. I can read in French but I don't like it. I want to be able to read in German and I would love any Michael Ende books to do that, especially the Neverending Story; or other children's books; or cookbooks.   Keyrings? I have four different sets of keys: school, home, car, second set for the same car. Only the Home ones have a keyring.   How do you feel about winter-themed but not really holiday type decorations? Things like snowflakes and fake icicles and the like? They will probably be really pretty, but my currrent home has yellow walls and my Christmas tree is decorated in gold and black.   Do you have a personal 'Good Luck' charm? Maybe you have a goddess figure to remind you of your Inner Goddess, or maybe you have a beautiful Cross to represent your faith...Or maybe you wear a Hand of Fatimah for protection....That kind of thing. I don't have one, yet. I don't wear the same jewelry every day, or use the same handbag. I'm a Christian but I don't like the Cross as an ornament (it is an instrument of torture after all). I have an altar of sorts with several tiny Nativity scenes.   If you were to attend Hogwarts, into which House would you be sorted? Ravenclaw, the House of Geeks. Would you be interested in some knitted wire jewelry, like this? Yes, absolutely.   This is kind of a getting-to-know-you-type-thingie, but I always find it illuminating--what's on your computer desktop? Images? Color scheme? A Jessica Hagy cartoon: http://thisisindexed.com/2007/04/verbs-of-being/   http://bp3.blogger.com/_FBXGhy-QmVw/Rh8aMA...0-h/card795.JPG   I began using it because I needed the motivation. I haven't changed it because I like the relatively empty background for my fish, animal, and LOTR icons   What do you collect...besides BPAL? If "collect" means "accumulate, even if you use it up", jewelry, tea, silk scarves, gloves (people keep giving me gloves because I always lose them), tea, spices, candles... I try not to hoard things too much as I try not to become my parents (mother: impulse buyer, comfort shopper, and hoarder; father: hoarder).   Anyone a fan of Goddess art? Yes.   Anyone else a Luis Royo fan? No.   What are your favorite websites (i.e., the ones you visit every day, or almost every day)? I'm subscribed to about forty blogs: the most informative ones in the Spanish belly dance scene, the American "Bellydance Paladin", and then, American feminist ones: Feministe and Shakesville. I don't like Feministing for some reason.   How do you feel about Lush? Anything you want to try? I love Lush but I hate their new soap base (the one with rapeseed oil). I don't use bath-only products, ever.   How do you feel about home made lip balm, salt or sugar scrubs, soap, bath salts, etc? Yay!   if you were to receive a hand-knitted item, what color(s) would you prefer AND are there any types of yarn that you just cannot handle (e.g. wool, llama, etc.) Nothing scratchy. The only colours I dislike are yellow (yes, the house is painted yellow but I don't have any yellow clothes) and all shades of brown.   What is one REALLY expensive, completely outrageous thing you would LOVE to get but totally don't expect to ever get from anyone? Maybe jewelry. Maybe a trip to New York including a retreat in a monastery near Poughkeepsie.   Do you like coffee mugs? Travel or stay at home? How big? Do you like ones from Starbucks? I like the standard, 250 cl (half-pint) size, and I like them colourful, decorated. Pretty ones. Not Starbucks. Do you like tea? What kinds of tea (green, red, white, black, decaf, herbal infusions)? Feel free to get specific on brands and tea types. Loose or bagged? Do you need any kind of tea accessories? Pots/cozys/presses/strainers? No accesories needed. My favourite American brand is Celestial Seasonings (except the blends with carob and chicory). I like flavoured and strong black tea for breakfast, flavoured green, plain green, white and herbal teas during the day. Sometimes I have English Breakfast. I'm a great fan of Les Palais du Thé, a French Franchise. I like loose tea (to choose strenght myself as I cannot use a bag and a half!) and herbal in bags (for convenience).   What is your favorite hot chocolate or drinking chocolate? Do you need Vegan or no? It must be either Colacao or thick cocoa made from a bar and cooked. I'm Spanish: I may not drink it often, but this is a question of national pride.   Do you need any decanting supplies? Pipettes? Vials? How about any wand caps? Roller bottles? Some spray bottles (for oils mixed with alcohol?) Pippettes and wandcaps would be fantastic.   I wanted to ask a question: are there any rare (or even uber-rare) scents that you'd really like to try? The original 13.   Does your forum name have a special significance? Refer to something or someone you admire? Reflect your interests? It is the name I use with foreign people, as they get very confused when they hear my real name, Eugenia (eh-oo-hen-ja). Then it became my online name. And because most bellydancers know me online before meeting me, it is also my bellydance name. I have another easily searchable online nick, laguiri ("the foreign woman", in the local slang). I'm a national, but my friends call me guiri because I have lived for long periods in English-speaking countries.   What's your favorite texture? Crunchy!   What's one luxury item you want to pamper yourself with but haven't yet? Any BPTP; Villainess whipped. I have tried the Villainess Smooch only once and I would love more. Do you prefer arm warmers to the wrist, to the base of the fingers, or half fingered? half-fingered. Any favorite cartoon characters? Disney, Sanrio, etc? Mafalda.   Are there any witchy type supplies you're in need of, or would like to try etc.? Herbs, smudge sticks, resins, tarot/oracle cards, incense burners, pretty tools, stuff like that? I think I need the books about Wicca and paganism on my wishlist, and a ritual knife. In that order. I'm open to other tools, herbs, etc. but not to anything that may be used for seeing the future.   On nut intolerance - does it include things like almond/coconut oil bases and essential oils in perfume oils, skincare products, scented candles and the like? I'm not intolerant to any food that I know of. Well, raw bananas give me heartburn, but you're not going to send me bananas, are you?   If you are a fan, who were your favorite Buffy and Angel characters? NOT a fan.   Do you like Shakespeare? Which plays? Yes, I like him although I like my poetry short. Maybe my favourite play by him is Othello. Maybe.   Question for the Class: Favorite Musical? I love Gene Kelly with teenage passion.   How do you like your chocolate? White, milk, bittersweet, as dark as possible? Plain, with flavoring, with chunks of stuff in? Fairly traditional, or weird and experimental? I like it posh, dark or extremely good quality milk, Fair Trade preferred. Chunks of stuff? chocolate-coated marzipan, combinations of chocolate and toffee, dark choc and ginger. I miss Thornton's less sickly sweet inventions, and Green and Blacks.   Favorite animals? Least favorite? Faves: Tigers, penguins, butterflies. If I had to attribute to them human qualities tigers are sexy, penguins are happy families, butterflies are simply decorative. Least favorite? apart from the usual insects, seals. And I'm not a big fan of pets. How do you feel about Heifer International? Or do you have other favorite charities not mentioned in your application? I am concerned about whether the money we give to charities is well spent. I sponsor a child in India and the causes I care about the most are childhood, women's rights and food-related causes, so on a superficial look the Heifer International website seems good.   So for all witches of the shimmying types- would you like tassel belts/jingle belts/ ect and if so, how big are your hips? Interesting!! My hips are about 39 inches. I don't like coin belts. I don't like coins (they break the thread), and I'm open to anything else, including tribal. I have a big problem with tops: I want to wear a real bra underneath the dance top, so my choices for clothes are restricted to dresses and cholis. What are 3 places that you'd like to visit, or re-visit? Glasgow (again), New York City (again), Finland (haven't gne there yet)   Literary erotica. Who doesn't love it? I'm picky.   Are you planning on buying anything off your BPAL wishlist during the round? Do you read graphic novels/comics? Which ones? Yes. Neil Gaiman, like everyone else. Guy Delisle, Marjane Satrapi, and stuff in Spanish you've never heard of. Which witches would want Bpal boxes? Or imp cases? I have just run out of space in my two boxes to keep bottles.... I don't know if that means I need another box, or selling off stuff. How about a short - or longer - piece of fanfic? That would be fun! What is the weirdest and/or most practical thing you are not buying for yourself right now? The thing that you probably should be buying, but have been putting off in lieu of something else? Unusual: a bellydance bra. Practical: a dryer. Would you like handmade piece of calligraphy as a gift? I'm not sure. What jewelry are you wearing now? What jewelry do you wear everyday-or do you change jewelry all the time? Right now I have gold little balls on my ears because my right ear's piercing is a bit sore and I don't have anything more original in gold. And a silver ring with a biggish moonstone. Boxes, baskets, etc.? Again, not sure. Chia Pet, do you need one? I'm not good with plants. Houseplants and/or things to put them in: thoughts? I'm trying to make three plants survive. If they're still alive in February, I'll sow seeds of edible stuff. Do you like baskets, jars and other interesting containers? Filled or Empty? I'm not sure.   Who are your forum friends, person or people your witch can contact for ideas? The two people that know me best here are probably Baitu and Lilirose. What cartoons did you grow up watching? Any animated shows you still watch? I was more a muppet person than a cartoon person: Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, La Bola de Cristal (no, you don't know that one).   Do you like honey? Will you like to try creamy honey with black sesame or with cinnamon powder? I love honey, but wouldn't it be too heavy for you to post all the way to Spain? What is the biggest problem or sad thing in your life? Of course, I mean the saddest or worst thing you can confess here. Chronic pain. It's mild, but I'm terrified it will get worse. Also, the constant feeling that I don't have enough time to do everything I need to do... and stupidly, the one thing I keep postponing is exercising (vital for my health). And.... what fashion item or style do you like, but never wear? Belts. I love obis, and all sorts of decorated belts in theory, but I'm relatively short and I have no waist to speak of (measures on a bad day: 100-80-100 = 40-32-40), so I think they don't look good on me.   Do you like to cook? if so, what? Would you like things like spices, cookbooks, recipes, tips? Yes, anything, yes. The only spices I don't like are hot peppers.   I love Christmas music even though I'm pagany -- how about you? I love Christmas, and Christmas music.   Anyone else have a sudden and unexpected favorite BPAL lately? A craving for lavender! And, is there a rose & lavender scent???   It's cold outside - what are your favorite drinks to keep yourself warm and cozy? My own chai blend, scented black tea, tea with a shot of whisky. Colacao (drinking chocolate / cocoa mixes are probably the worst gift you could send me: a Spanish childhood means I won't drink anything but colacao).   Would my potential Witchee be up for some music stuff they'd never heard before if they couldn't understand the words? I think my questionnaire implies the answer, which is yes.   What kind of candy/sweet treat would you like to receive? I'm not sure there is any food I wouldn't like. Would you personally rather get handmade jewelry or the beads to make something yourself? Something made would be lovely because it's coming from you. I would like beads if they are very original, you know, things like decorated Murano glass.   Speaking of which, how many Browncoat witches do we have?? And if you are, would you be interested in getting a Kaylee parasol? If not, would you be interested in getting a paper parasol hand painted with your favorite colors? Ermmm... no, thanks. D&D/roleplay? No.   Which witches would like hair accessories: clips, scrunchies, hairsticks, headscarves, etc? My hair is long, and thick, I want it even longer, and I have never had the talent to do pretty things with it. icon_sad.gif I do wear lots of different clips, etc and I tend to prefer hairdos that keep it outr of my face. I need elastic bands, or scrunchies, or something like that, that is thick and soft but in colours that go well with my work clothes (dark red, black, very light green, any shade of blue....) it is very hard to find scrunchies that don't go horribly bad with formal clothes.   Hand beaded jewellery, yay or nay? Yes!! To make up for the fact that I probably won't be able to send my witchee homebaked goodies, will Tim Tams in any number of varieties be an acceptable replacement? Food is good.   Is there any time during the holidays (or the rest of the round) when you'll be away from home for a significant period and it'd be best not to send anything by mail? not really.   Cat hair? not a problem.   Who (of course excluding Schackjj ) would like a pair of handknit socks? Size? Color preference? Cabled, ribbed (for your pleasure), stranded colorwork, etc.? I wear conservative black socks to work, but something thick and warm to be at home would be nice (stone floor, no carpet!). My boyfriend would love them more than me - he has huge feet, I think his American size is 12. Would you like to receive ATCs (artist trading cards) or would you prefer something more usable, like bookmarks or something? I've never seen ATCs, but what I see online sounds good.   What witch would like a cloak? I have too many coats already. Since we're talking about warm winter wearables, who likes hats? Mittens? Arm warmers? a hat would be nice, specially something like a beret. Other stuff sounds good too. If your witch were to send you cookies, what kind of cookies would you like? I don't like very rich and oily things. I am more used to (European style) biscuits. When I lived in the States, I liked oatmeal and raisin cookies, and the ones with Smarties, and I didn't like peanut butter or white chocolate ones. I don't know if carrot cake transports well but I love that.   Who likes tshirts? What about homemade tshirts? Painted or printed? It sounds nice. I just bought Maple Syrup and Candy from this website.   Another question! How does everyone feel about steampunk? Is that stuff like The Difference Engine? I hate William Gibson, but my boyfriend loved that book. So, question all- how do people feel about unusual ornaments? As in, for holidays other than Christmas? As long as it's not Halloween.... I don't like Halloween very much.

Let it snow, let it snow...

It's so cold out, eep!   Anyway, thank you dear Witch for the cute ecard! To answer your question:   Do you like white musk? YES! White musk is one of the only musks I can wear that doesn't amp up so much it drowns out the other notes. My favorite BPAL featuring white musk are 51, Black Pearl, Endymion, Fae, and Ladon. I remember fondly The Body Shop's White Musk; I used to wear it all the time but ironically I've outgrown it when really that perfume was a very mature smell. ;;   I cannot do red musk or black musk, or animal musk. -___-;; I have not, however, tried the Lab's chinese musk yet!

December 08 willcall

I tried- Beaver'versary... I love me the sugary scents & this one really did it for me. Sweets & cake. mmmm   Moon of the Terrible. I have to get this. Sweet (lychee?) & sexy (moonflower? other night florals?). It develops into something mysteriously sexy on me (which I like because I am neither as a person but dream of being ) Champagne & Roses. This was pretty & bubbly. I would have gotten one for myself & my friend, Jen (who couldn't come), but it sold out too fast.   I sniffed- Wood phoenix. It was very woody. In a way that just didn't agree with my nose Candy Phoenix. I might be crazy, but it reminds me of jelly beans, salt water taffy, and those juicy hard candies. It was hard to tell if I liked it or it was just making me hungry. Champagne, chocolate & sex. This was so very very good in the bottle. But, I didn't apply it because most musks get amped too much on me. It did smell very yummy & lickable in the sexy sorta way. Eggnog latte. I'm kicking myself for leaving my toy at work. (It eventually ended up at Toys for Tots) The eggnog latte was coffee shop devine. Warm & comfortable, yet delish. Ah, well, maybe it'll be revived? Snake Charmer revived. I don't get the hype. I wanted to like this. But, like snake oil, it just didn't work for me. Sniffy spicey muskey & sexy. It'd probably smell wonderful on my friend Judy (who has the polar opposite body chemistry to me as far as fragrances go)   It was SO crowded. I made my purchase & slipped out to wait for my friend, Steph (misspriss). I decided to help collect toys, as I didn't want to get bored... nothing to do with the door guy being cute. I had a nice chat with the forumite Tomatojoe (*shakes fist at her for getting the last C&R* ) Steph did make it & we got to catch up. I don't know what it is about willcalls that makes me so shy. But, I swear I'll try to talk to more people next time. In any case, I had a good time.

Switch Witch Winter Round Questions

How do you feel about winter-themed but not really holiday type decorations? Things like snowflakes and fake icicles and the like? I love stuff like this. I don't have a tree yet, but I can hang stuff like this up from different spots in my bedroom.   Do you have a personal 'Good Luck' charm? Maybe you have a goddess figure to remind you of your Inner Goddess, or maybe you have a beautiful Cross to represent your faith...Or maybe you wear a Hand of Fatimah for protection....That kind of thing. I wear a cross all the time. It only comes off if I need x-rays, other diagnostic tests that require a lack of jewelery, am getting a massage, or the chain breaks.   Would you be interested in some knitted wire jewelry, like this? Knitted wire jewelery's not really my thing.   This is kind of a getting-to-know-you-type-thingie, but I always find it illuminating--what's on your computer desktop? Images? Color scheme? Way too many icons for stuff I need to sort into folders, and a background image of the British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith's son Harry taken on a trip to Alaska for a spin of wrestling shows.   What do you collect...besides BPAL? Not much of anything, honestly. I've got a small collection of wrestling action figures, and a few McFarlane figures, but that's about the extent of it. Oh, wait. I also love the little figurines from boxes of Red Rose tea. The last ones I got were the kittens and the duck from the pet shop friends series.   Anyone a fan of Goddess art? Not really my thing.   What are your favorite websites (i.e., the ones you visit every day, or almost every day)? This forum, LiveJournal, PWInsider.com's paid elite section (I only pay because it kills the metric asston of advertisements that are on the free site ), and that's basically it for the "every day" sites.   How do you feel about Lush? Anything you want to try? The only stuff I use on a consistent basis from Lush are the Big Blue Bath Bombs. I tried their shower gels, but there's too much sulfate-based stuff in those. My skin winds up red and itchy. So, if my Witch wants to get me anything from there, the bath bombs are the way to go. I'm up for trying different ones.   How do you feel about home made lip balm, salt or sugar scrubs, soap, bath salts, etc? Always welcome here.   if you were to receive a hand-knitted item, what color(s) would you prefer AND are there any types of yarn that you just cannot handle (e.g. wool, llama, etc.) As long as it isn't pink, I'm pretty easy to please. I don't like most wools due to them making me itch, and scratchy acrylics get the same avoidance.   Hogwarts sorting situation: Given I don't do much of anything with the Harry Potter stuff, I'm just taking a random stab. I'd probably be a Ravenclaw.   What is one REALLY expensive, completely outrageous thing you would LOVE to get but totally don't expect to ever get from anyone? I'd love to go to Wrestlemania 25. Hahaha. Yeah. I don't ever see anyone (except maybe my dad) helping that one happen, especially since I went to Mania 24 back in March. Otherwise, I've got a list of muscle cars I'd probably faint dead away over seeing roll into my driveway. As you can see, I don't expect this to happen AT ALL.   Does your forum name have a special significance? Refer to something or someone you admire? Reflect your interests? Come on, spill! The heartbreak section comes from The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michael's full ring moniker, and my ex-fiance used to call me angel all the time, so I just mashed them together.   What's one luxury item you want to pamper yourself with but haven't yet? I dunno if this could be considered a luxury item, but I'm really hoping to get my hands on one of these at some point.   Anyone into physical activities? For instance- I'm training to become a Combat Archer in the SCA, and something I would use would be an Archers glove...is there anything you do as a sport/hobby in which you might need equipment? I'm big into weight lifting, though I haven't done it in quite awhile for reasons I'd rather not rehash again at the moment. I'm also looking to get ahold of a 25 to 50 pound heavy bag for the basement, so I can get back to my roots with cardio training. Since I'll be doing that, I need handwraps or MMA hand mits, and some kick pads for my shins.   Are there any witchy type supplies you're in need of, or would like to try etc.? Herbs, smudge sticks, resins, tarot/oracle cards, incense burners, pretty tools, stuff like that? Sage for smudging and some resins. That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.   Do you like Shakespeare? Which plays? Yep. Midsummer Night's Dream, Hamlet, Macbeth, and Much Ado About Nothing are faves of mine.   Favorite animals? Least favorite? Wolverines, cougars, domestic cats, dogs (especially english bulldogs), hawks...don't really have any least favorites, though.   What is the weirdest and/or most practical thing you are not buying for yourself right now? The thing that you probably should be buying, but have been putting off in lieu of something else? I've got a few things. I really need a new pair of shoes for the gym, I should pick up an electric mattress pad for my bed to keep the winter aches and pains down, and I need a new comforter for said same sleeping area. And new sheets. Sheesh.

More Questions - 12/17

How do you feel about winter-themed but not really holiday type decorations? Things like snowflakes and fake icicles and the like?   I like snowflakes, but I don't really decorate much. I have candy cane fleece PJ pants that I wear whenever it's cold, along with my Jack o' Lantern fleece blanket - there's a lot of holiday mixing.   Do you have a personal 'Good Luck' charm? Maybe you have a goddess figure to remind you of your Inner Goddess, or maybe you have a beautiful Cross to represent your faith...Or maybe you wear a Hand of Fatimah for protection....That kind of thing.   Not really. I usually wear a star necklace (one of a few that I own) but it's not a 'Good Luck' charm.   If you were to attend Hogwarts, into which House would you be sorted?   I tend to evenly split between Gryfindor or Ravenclaw depending on which test I take.   Would you be interested in some knitted wire jewelry?   I don't really wear dangle earrings, but I've seen wire knitted bracelets and I think they are supercool!   This is kind of a getting-to-know-you-type-thingie, but I always find it illuminating--what's on your computer desktop? Images? Color scheme?   At the moment it's Peter Petrelli from Heroes because he kind of reminds me of my crush. Plus it's a cool show. Usually it's pictures I've taken - I had a graveyard in Mass from about August to November.   What do you collect...besides BPAL?   Sock yarn. Also star stuff. That's about it.   Anyone a fan of Goddess art?   Not really.   Anyone else a Luis Royo fan?   No idea who that is.   What are your favorite websites (i.e., the ones you visit every day, or almost every day)?   livejournal, plurk, Molehill Empire (stay away, it's addictive!), and Gmail   How do you feel about Lush? Anything you want to try?   I like a lot of Lush stuff. I don't often take baths, but when I do I love bath bombs or bubble bars - I just had a Lush bubble bath today! I never really keep track of what they have, but I like fruity / foody scents the most. And I adore I Love Juicy shampoo and Charity Pot lotion.   How do you feel about home made lip balm, salt or sugar scrubs, soap, bath salts, etc?   Yay! I am a lip balm addict.   if you were to receive a hand-knitted item, what color(s) would you prefer AND are there any types of yarn that you just cannot handle (e.g. wool, llama, etc.)   Blue is my favorite color, I also like purple, black and grey. Some greens are good too. I don't do silk, but other than that I'm good on all yarnyness.

A kinda wishlist.

I will eventually collate all my 'wishlists' here, but until then, I'll be posting random things I find things I want.   Sunna, Rhiannon, Gwenhyfar, Arthur, Priestess of Avalon, Lady of the Lake...Any of the Norse Goddesses/Gods I love these, and would love them for my altar. The Rhiannon I want for my little girl- who was named for the Goddess Rhiannon. I adore everything she creates - the travel altars are a great novel idea! I'm thinking of getting some as presents for some pagan friends of mine.   I adore and could go mad here : Fire Mountain Gems I love their 'pound of mixed beads' deal! Ssssssooo much fun!   I love this little site too- Medieval FightClub I want the 'Toothpick Dagger', and the Viking Eating Knives (Kvinnokniv). I also would love some of their coins! (I've been tempted to make my own pewter coins - but getting the soapstone is proving a pain!) Their set of three chests is wonderful too - I definitely have a thing about boxes, bottles, jars and the like! (Don't get me started on apothecary bottles!)   I love Andrixos' Trims at Calontir Trim He has one suitable for my Kingdom unreleased yet- I'm eager to get my hands on a few rolls- I want to make a gift for the incoming King And Queen of Lochac, but I've just had much more pressing financial matters to attend!   As I'm a big girl, I adore this site: Margo's Patterns She has some period patterns for the bigger girl- such a wonderful thing to see!   I also love the period patterns for hats here: Lynn McMasters Hats I have a particular penchant for the Single Seam Coif, Womens Biggins, the Elizabethan French Hood and the Elizabethan Gold Mesh Caul.     I will update this once I go through and find more things. It feels exceptionally strange to be actually documenting the things I would love to have! I'll get used to it as I participate in more Switch Witch rounds I guess!

SW questions through 12/12

12/10 Question for the Class: Favorite Musical? As usual, how am I supposed to pick just one? RENT is an old favorite, but I think I've kind of outgrown it somewhat. Love Bernstein, though I haven't watched West Side Story in ages because it makes me cry (of course). Into the Woods is definitely up there. Fiddler on the Roof is pretty great. I love Jesus Christ Superstar in spite of myself, and Phantom is another old favorite (and probably the most recent Lloyd Weber musical I have any familiarity with). Ditto for Les Misérables. Ooh, that could be my favorite, except that I'm so not interested in the love triangle at this stage in my life. And so on, and so forth.   How do you like your chocolate? White, milk, bittersweet, as dark as possible? Plain, with flavoring, with chunks of stuff in? Fairly traditional, or weird and experimental? When I was in Paris a few years ago I came across some 98% (I think) dark chocolate. A fine idea, but in practice, I found it inedible. I think 70% dark is my limit. White is good, milk is good, flavored is good, chunky can be good depending on the chunks, I'm okay with experimental but I really don't think I want meat products in my chocolate.   Favorite animals? Least favorite? Favorites: dogs, coyotes, wolves; cats of all sizes (I've been feeling drawn to mountain lions lately, which strikes me as a bit random at present, but 'sokay); horses (especially draft horses); bears (favorites = polar bears); crows and ravens; ducks; llamas. Don't know that I have a least favorite, unless we're including insects, in which case -- MOTHS.   How do you feel about Heifer International? Or do you have other favorite charities not mentioned in your application? HI is way cool!! I'm not sure what I mentioned in my application, if anything, but good charities/orgs to give donations to for me (in addition to the above) are Amnesty International, CARE, Lambda Legal, Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, and Defenders of Wildlife.   So for all witches of the shimmying types- would you like tassel belts/jingle belts/ ect and if so, how big are your hips? Oh, I'm not currently of the shimmying type, but I have vague thoughts of giving bellydancing a try at some point. So, my hips are 44-45 inches if you're so inclined.     12/11 What's your favorite texture? Kitten/puppy fur. But I like a wide variety of textures: plush and soft, smooth and silky, bumpy and interesting...   What's one luxury item you want to pamper yourself with but haven't yet? A professional massage done with one of the BPTP massage oils, maybe? A scent locket? An Alaskan cruise? A Hawaiian holiday? Alpaca yarn? I really don't know.   Do you prefer arm warmers to the wrist, to the base of the fingers, or half fingered? Any or all of the above would be lovely!   Any favorite cartoon characters? Disney, Sanrio, etc? Mmm, not off the top of my head, really...   Have you (or maybe the younguns in your family) been exposed to the Webkinz craze? Nope.   Who's your favorite playwright? Oh, probably Shakespeare, honestly. I love others, namely Beckett, Williams, and Miller, but Shakespeare's body of work is so vast and the subject matter so diverse that I think there's something there for just about everyone.   Anyone into physical activities? For instance- I'm training to become a Combat Archer in the SCA, and something I would use would be an Archers glove...is there anything you do as a sport/hobby in which you might need equipment? I do yoga, but I don't think there's anything I need for that. I wouldn't mind upbeat music for the gym, though.   Are there any witchy type supplies you're in need of, or would like to try etc.? Herbs, smudge sticks, resins, tarot/oracle cards, incense burners, pretty tools, stuff like that? I don't know of anything, but if you see something that yells my name at you, then clearly you ought to go with that. Still craving the World Spirit Tarot deck.   On nut intolerance - does it include things like almond/coconut oil bases and essential oils in perfume oils, skincare products, scented candles and the like? No nut intolerances here!   If you are a fan, who were your favorite Buffy and Angel characters? I'm only halfway through season five, but at present I particularly love Willow, Tara, Spike, and Dru (she's so delightfully mad!). And it's hard not to love Buffy herself, overall.   Do you like Shakespeare? Which plays? Yup. Gotta love Midsummer Night's Dream, Macbeth, and The Tempest, of course. King Lear. Richard III. Much Ado About Nothing.     12/12 I wanted to ask a question: are there any rare (or even uber-rare) scents that you'd really like to try? Listed under Long-Gone LEs on my wishlist.   Does your forum name have a special significance? Refer to something or someone you admire? Reflect your interests? Come on, spill! It comes from the Simpsons episode "Selma's Choice," in which Lisa, high on the "water" from one of the rides at Duff Gardens, proclaims "I am the Lizard Queen!" (As seen in my avatar image.) I haven't the foggiest idea why I started applying it to myself (except for the fact that my name is Liz), but I did, close to three years ago now.

BPAL: Sleepy Hollow: Katrina Van Tassel

Sleepy Hollow: Katrina Van Tassel Category: Limited Edition Quantity: 5ml bottle   Description: KATRINA VAN TASSEL … and though he had seen many spectres in his time, and been more than once beset by Satan in divers shapes, in his lonely perambulations, yet daylight put an end to all these evils; and he would have passed a pleasant life of it, in despite of the devil and all his works, if his path had not been crossed by a being that causes more perplexity to mortal man than ghosts, goblins, and the whole race of witches put together, and that was-a woman.   Among the musical disciples who assembled, one evening in each week, to receive his instructions in psalmody, was Katrina Van Tassel, the daughter and only child of a substantial Dutch farmer. She was a blooming lass of fresh eighteen; plump as a partridge; ripe and melting and rosy cheeked as one of her father's peaches, and universally famed, not merely for her beauty, but her vast expectations. She was withal a little of a coquette, as might be perceived even in her dress, which was a mixture of ancient and modern fashions, as most suited to set off her charms. She wore the ornaments of pure yellow gold, which her great-great-grandmother had brought over from Saardam, the tempting stomacher of the olden time; and withal a provokingly short petticoat, to display the prettiest foot and ankle in the country round.   White rose and honeyed cream.   Review:   In the bottle: It’s sweet, like Dana O’Shee, only with roses instead of sweet grains.   Wet: Mostly roses. Somehow, it reminds me of my grand-mother’s perfume; I want to snuggle up in my grandma’s blanket and sing lullabies.   Dry: It’s still rosy, but creamier. It’s very feminine and, without a doubt, a good girl’s perfume. The sweet cream scent lasts much longer than the rose scent though. Verdict: I like it, but it’s missing a little something to be more than “my grand-mother’s perfume”. I’m happy with the bottle I have, but I wouldn’t buy another one.   More reviews: LE: Katrina Van Tassel
