so I ordered a scent locket

[she says, casually] and it arrived. And it's a beauty -- the phoenix design. And I should mention that I got no less than 6 frimps with it. And they even sent one that's on my list of ones to try. Here's what I got:   Lilium Inter Spinas Czernobog Thanatopsis The Last Squished Jellybean Tenochtitlan Dragon's Milk   I've already speed-sniffed through all of them, and the one that stood out most positively was Dragon's Milk. Tenochtitlan had an instant, really unpleasant, old, dried sweat undertone. The rest I'll have to spend more time with.

HOOOO-boy

Lots on my mind, and lots to do in the next week or so....and beyond. I've pretty much decided to move when my lease is out which is at the end of November, which means I'm looking at an apartment tomorrow, so I can get things moving ASAP.   The apartment sounds really great, and it's in an area that I like, so I'm really excited and I hope that I like it. It has many more pros than the place where I live now, and honestly, I can hardly wait to move out of there. Cat friendly, laundry in basement, off-street parking, secure building, paid heat and water, nicer neighborhood.....and the landlady seems okay to me, just from the phone conversations we've had. Also it's only a couple of blocks away from the Cincinnati Zoo, which I think is really great (the Zoo is in kind of a bad area but that's not the part where I'm looking.....I'm a little further south of that which is more of a college- and medical-student area).   Other than that, I have a whole bunch of smaller stuff that I need to get done, including cleaning up my current apt so I can be sure to get my deposit back. I will feel a little bad telling my current landlady that I'm not staying, but......well, I can't think of a but. I just never felt at home there, can't stand the neighbors, can't get comfortable in the space....what more really needs to be said? It's a nice apartment but I just for whatever reason couldn't get myself adjusted there. And I'm definitely not staying for another year, and she won't go month-to-month, so there ya go.

witched again!

huzzah! i was witched!   an interesting thing to note: this is the second time my witch has had something mailed to me and both times my package has arrived the same day as a bpal order... interesting... i think my witch and her helpers have a spooky power...   anyway... my postal carrier had both of my packages scanned and waiting for me by the time i had walked down the hill to the mailboxes. i spent the whole mad dash back up to my apartment trying to feel through the wrapping to guess what was inside.     okay, i'll confess. i squeed a little when i saw the pouch. i have this wonderful weakness for pouches and treasures hidden inside pouches. and dots? it never even occurred to me to check and see if they were vegan. in my brief checking so far, they appear to be! they are almost too cute to eat, little ghost dots.   anyway, i had to see what was in the pouch. i'd been patient for, what, five minutes?     agapē! one of my favorites! and full! i took a good, long sniff and sighed with happiness... thank you so much!   but then i wondered: my witch must have had someone send this to me. but there was no note... so i went back to the package and sure enough, there was a business card with a note on the back. seems that schackjj was my witch's helper this time!   so i'm off to huff agapē some more and ponder who my witch could be...

Sulking

I'm so sad Tweedledee doesn't work for me. I didn't think there was such a thing as too sweet for me. I love sugar. But, it failed on me.   I'm slowly working my way through my box of Imps & reviewing them, one or two at a time. I've reviewed all of my bottles.   I'm flat out broke, & behind on rent. So, there's no hope in the near future of buying anything. Luckily, my box of imps is large. So, I'll have entertainment for a long time with it.   I'm disappointed that so many of my "high hopes" are turning out to not work on me. But, I guess in the long run, that's easier on my pocket.   It's starting to look like my tropical fruits are limited to pineapple & kiwi, & my citrus to oranges, lime, & lemon. Lemongrass over lemon as well. Most non berry fruits turn bad on on me as well. Some melons work though.   I guess this is why I never wore little girl perfumes when I was a kid. They're all jumbles of fruits. My first perfume was Charlie white. watermelon, violets, sandalwood the only thing that didn't work so well for me in that was the jasmine. I'm told it reeks of sandalwood, but, I can barely smell sandalwood. So, it's no wonder I liked it.   Anyway, back to the search.

Falling Leaf Moon

September 2009 Lunacy   This one is sort of a roller coaster for me. At first, it smells a little off -- almost like there's some mustyness in among the leaves, but not quite. Then it actually gets sort of sweet. At its peak, it does evoke a misty autumn day with piles of falling leaves all around; not really rainy or wet, but definitely not dry or smoky, either. It's really like nothing I've smelled before, and I can't put my finger on anything else to describe it...but all things considered, I rather like it.

Mourning Moon

October 2008 Lunacy   This was actually the first lunacy that I ever purchased, and it was a really great choice.   Initially, I get a light, sort of tart citrus scent -- definitely grapefruit, there. As it dries, it quickly picks up...a sort of body and depth, from the violet leaf and other, darker notes, while the citrus notes keep it sweet and feminine. This is a beautiful, rich, classy perfume, not entirely woeful to me; more like the air of a mourning widow who is determined to keep her head held high and keep carrying on. There's a sort of sad determination to it, as well as a hopeful appreciation for the beauty of life in the here and now. Truly gorgeous.

Chanukkiyah

Category: Limited Edition -- Yule 2007   Oh. My. God. Wonderful warm BEESWAX mixed with amber, and I think I'm even smelling the olive oil a bit...a warm, smoky sort of smell. Must...have...more!!

Malice

Category: Diabolus   While this shares the same note (red patchouli) as Malediction, it's sweetened considerably by the myrrh, making this a scent that's earthy in a sensual way.

Malediction

Category: Sin And Salvation   Phew, dark, evil, romantically cruel hippy. (With average throw and staying power.) I think this will be a pass.

Maenad

Category: Diabolus   Very sweet: strawberries and poppy, definitely. It's more evocative of slumber parties and lipgloss than orgies, but...that's just me. Pretty decent staying power.

Lysander

Category: Illyria   I smell violet, and possibly benzoin and tonka. It actually kind of reminds me of a sweet herbal liqueur...kinda like Galliano, for some really weird reason. It's a pretty durable scent, lasting all day long.

Lyonesse

Category: Wanderlust   This delicious, albeit powdery, vanilla. I just wish that it was stronger and more durable, because while it's around it smells so very nice.

The Ghost

Category: Ars Moriendi   Well, 'ethereal floral' certainly applies here...I get a whiff of light florals, with maybe a bit of dusty ivy...and then it's gone. Very faint, very fleeting.

Black Cat

Category: Bewitching Brews -- The Conjure Bag   I get a lot of mint -- as in spearmint, a sweetly herbal scent. As it dries, I get maybe a hint of lemon, and a bit of a...fuzzy note. Not exactly powdery, but more like the light fuzz atop a cat's head; that sort of aura.   While the scent itself isn't really my cup of tea, I think it's a really cute concept, and it was definitely worth a try!

Bensiabel

Category: Marchen   Initially, this is plum, leather and musk like woah. After a bit, it softens, and the lilac comes out. Believe it or not, this is a fairly manly sort of floral. I am discovering that plum is one of my favorite notes, and this perfume does not disappoint. It has good staying power and some pretty decent throw from time to time.

Belle Vinu

Category: Marchen   I get a lot of peach from this, though this perfume is in general a very light scent. There may be some other florals hovering around, but they never really seem to take anything over. The faint aroma lingers all day long. This reminds me of the Gaoler's Daughter, but Belle Vinu is braver and possesses more personality.

Apple Of Sodom

Category: Rappacini's Garden   The apple in this is rather medicinal-smelling...almost like eucalyptus, as someone else noted earlier. However, I don't find it unpleasant at all, due to the way that the ashy notes blend in with it. Honestly, to me it's like a mixture of the appletini smell of Mock Turtle's Lessons and the wondrous charcoal of Brimstone. I like both of those scents, and really like this one. It is a scent that soaks into your skin and gives little wafts here and there, and seems to last for a goodly time. One of my favorites, now.

The Antikythera Mechanism

Category: Phoenix Steamworks   Dark wood, seasoned with a splash of manly vanilla. (Do you doubt that there is such a thing as manly vanilla?) It hugs fairly close to the skin, and seemed to evaporate after a while...didn't last the whole day on me.
