Egg Nog (2007 I think)

I tried this today, after the decant sat for a long time untouched. I was a little dismayed because it was barely there, and I thought it had aged badly or something. Then I read other reviews and I guess I'm not the only one! There is a little bit of throw, just a faint, sweet vanilla type of scent, with no spices or rum or anything like that. It's a cakey sort of scent, and I can barely pick up what might be some spices, only when I sniff up close.

Moody Myrtle

I have quit smoking again. I worked myself up to it, picked a date, and took the plunge. Please excuse any moody outbursts, I apologize in advance.   I also quit drinking, since that usually leads to smoking (music leads to dancing, and dancing leads to touching).   Anyway, this shouldn't be hard for me, I have already quit both for over 7 years in the past, and I was pretty dumb to start again.

What do you do with the money?   Who likes coloring books?I have a seven year old, so it's kind of a prerequisite in my house.   Are you an avid reader? The Weather Warden series by Rachel Caine.   If you could decorate/redecorate any 1 room in your home, what would it be and how would you decorate it I'd love to have a Victorian sitting room. However, my husband would retaliate with a South Western, Tex Mex bedroom.! LOL   This is how the world ends... zombie apocalypse, robot uprising, alien invasion, return of the elder gods... which doomsday scenario do you prefer (or make your own!)? I hope the world just ends with a simple "Goodnight and goodbye" and then the lights go out.   In the year 2525... if man is still alive... what sort of future do you imagine? I picture things pretty much the same, only people will be a bit nastier and bit lazier.   Do you believe in magic (or magick, if you prefer)? What does it mean to you? I do. It might sound trite, but a sunrise, a baby's laugh, seeing my kid when she fianlly "gets it", a snuggle from my hubby, Christmas lights in the snow, gosh the list could go on and on. I think there is a bit of magic in everything, we just forget to look for it.   If you found the puzzle box from Hellraiser, what would you do with it? ( and would you be able to resist playing with it? )I'd fart around with it and then toss it aside when I got frustrated. I'd never wind up getting it opened.   Do you like pinup art/images? They are definitely pretty   What are your plans for Halloween? Have you made any yet? Do you have any traditions? Taking my daughter trick or treating. We didn't at first, but last year was her first time and she had a blast, so we are going to try and do something really fun before hand and then go out candy begging.   Any rabid sports fans out there? What teams do you root for? no sports for me.   You're in the kitchen at the end of a pay period and groceries are pretty scarce. Do you take the five ingredients you find first and make something fabulous, or do you order take out?   Sometimes it's random items from the fridge and cabinet and sometimes take out. It depends on the look on my husband's face when I mention the slap dash dish.   Describe your ideal picnic lunch. Where would you go? Who (if anyone, and yes there can be multiple people) would accompany you? What sort of food would you take? And, of course, if a picnic lunch sounds like a horrible idea, feel free to say so!I'd have to think about this one.   Who are your BPAL forum buddies? You know, people I could conspire with to Witch you! I don't have any close friends on the forum. But, I think there might be a few who would conspire to help my witch. What is your favorite color?   Any other steampunk fans/lovers?I love the steampunk aesthetic, however, it's impractical for me right now to incorporate it into my lifestyle. I think the jewelry I create is really more steampunk inspired than full steampunk. I only wish I was more crafty and could make some of the magnificent items I've seen around. I did sign up for the steampunk swap and can only hope whoever I get is happy with their gift!   Describe your ideal picnic lunch. Where would you go? Who (if anyone, and yes there can be multiple people) would accompany you? What sort of food would you take? And, of course, if a picnic lunch sounds like a horrible idea, feel free to say so!   Would any witches be interested in home-made sewn type crafts? If so, what type? (e.g. tote bags, pillowcases, laptop covers, etc) Again, whatever my witch decided to create for me would be loved and cherished!   What's your favorite animal? (You can have more than one.) The items can be may be anything you can imagine, and money is no object, but they must fit within the box. Which items do you choose?Let's see: BPAL Pinched, a copy of any Sting album,my Ipod, watch parts, pictures of family and friends, my van keys, scrunchie, and a cell phone.   Are you involved in any long-term, ambitious project? something like decorating your house or saving for a trip to the other end of the world, for example. other than saving for s new house someday, nothing else.   Favorite kind or take out kinda burger? SW Fall '09 questions part 2

(I use too many emoticons for one post apparently)   Are you involved in any long-term, ambitious project? something like decorating your house or saving for a trip to the other end of the world, for example. I'm trying (very unsuccessfully) to save up for a new tattoo.   Favorite kind or take out kinda burger? Whats your burger preference? Veggie, meat or ???? I don't like hamburgers. I used to be a vegetarian but gave it up when I discovered the joys of sushi.   Whats your favorite childhood toy? Probably Legos or something. Tinkertoys were fun too.   If you have a pet, what kind of gifts would be good for them? I have many cats and I"m sure they'd appreciate toys and bits and bobs. We don't really give them treats much...   Do you Tweet? What is your Twitter name? I have a twitter but barely use it. My name there is taisgaidh.   Are you on Ravelry? What is your Ravelry name? I don't know what that is.   Would any witches be interested in home-made sewn type crafts? If so, what type? (e.g. tote bags, pillowcases, laptop covers, etc..) A laptop cover would be AWESOME! But anything on that list and more would rock!! Anything my witch wanted to make for me, or contract someone to make, would be super cool!   Any other steampunk fans/lovers? I like a lot of the steampunky jewelry I see on etsy and things like that. I'd like to learn more about steampunk as a whole.   Favorite color: I think I did a pretty good job covering it in my questionnaire. Black and purple are my favorites, but there's no color I really dislike. It also depends on what you're talking about. Jewelry: anything goes, clothes: not much just because some colors clash with my coloring.   Describe your ideal picnic lunch. Where would you go? Who (if anyone) would accompany you? What sort of food would you take? And, of course, if a picnic lunch sounds like a horrible idea, feel free to say so! Well, an idea I've hd in my head for a long time (that I want to do if I can) is that I'd love to have a picnic on a cliff (maybe overlooking the ocean? Maybe not) at sunset with my boyfriend. We'd bring chocolate covered strawberries and other such romantic foods. Does that count? If not then I'd just invite all the people I know from the BPAL forum and have a biiiiiiig picnic with tons of different kinds of food.   Do you like pinup art/images? I covered this in my questionnaire but: YES! I love pinup art! My parents got me a calendar of pinup art for Christmas last year and I really wish I had a book of pinup art.   What are your plans for Halloween? Have you made any yet? Do you have any traditions? I don't really have any Halloween traditions. I used to go trick-or-treating but I don't anymore and my area is not so great for trick or treating anyway. I'll probably just stay in and give out candy to the 2 people who come to my house. I was thinking about going to the Dethklok and Mastodon concert that's coming to my area on Halloween but I probably won't end up going.   Who are your BPAL forum buddies? You know, people I could conspire with to Witch you! The people who come to mind first are sirensea (My witch from last round) and chimera87. But I talk to Dark Alice more than other people on this forum and I consider her a friend. I'm always afraid of calling people (especially people I don't know irl) fiends because I'm afraid they don't think of me the same way and it would lead to awkwardness. /insecurity   You're in the kitchen at the end of a pay period and groceries are pretty scarce. Do you take the five ingredients you find first and make something fabulous, or do you order take out? A lot of times the fallback "we don't have any food" meal is pasta with a mixed veggie (whatever we have) sauce-type thing with olive oil and garlic. It's sort of hard to explain I guess but it's very tasty.   Do you believe in magic (or magick, if you prefer)? What does it mean to you? This a really hard question to answer. Magic, to me, is when a person directs his or her energy towards a certain purpose. And I suppose I believe that how people concentrate their energy can have an impact. I don't do any formal magic (like rituals or anything) but I have been known to attempt to focus my energy.   If you could decorate/redecorate any 1 room in your home, what would it be and how would you decorate it? My choice of redecoration would be my room. And I think I covered in my questionnaire how I'd decorate.   Any rabid sports fans out there? what teams do you root for? I'm not really a sports person   What's your favorite animal? (you can have more than one.) SNAILS! my number one favorite are snails. I also like frogs.   This is how the world ends... zombie apocalypse, robot uprising, alien invasion, return of the elder gods... which doomsday scenario do you prefer (or make your own!)? Yeep. I don't want the world to end! I enjoy reading about zombie apocalypse type things but I would be terrified if such a thing were to happen. However, I really enjoyed The Stand by Stephen King and I often think about how I would try to survive if suddenly millions of people died out.   In the year 2525... if man is still alive... what sort of future do you imagine? hmmm, that's another tough one. I am actually kind of paranoid about people becoming too dependent on machines and AI. So, a super technology filled future would be cool but also scary (to me). So I really don't know...   Favorite Halloween candy: mini Krackel bars. all the mini Hershey's bars really. I also like Skittles and sour gummy worms. (Gummi worms are kind of hard to give out for Halloween though.)   If you found the puzzle box from Hellraiser, what would you do with it? ( and would you be able to resist playing with it?) I have no idea what that is. I've never seen/read/whatever Hellraiser. I am interested now though.   Phobias: when people open car doors while the car is moving (I once yelled at my boyfriend because he did that when I wasn't expecting ), I don't like using electric mixers or being in elevators (I'm not claustrophobic, I'm okay with other enclosed spaces. I just really don't like using elevators). The sound of balloons popping used to make me cry. I still don't like it but I'm better about it now.   Favorite flowers: If you were giving me a bouquet, my favorites are white roses and tiger-lilies. If we're talking real, live plants: orchids... If I think of any more I'll add them in.   Any cooks? Could you use anything cooking related? Aprons? Cookbooks? Measuring Cups? Recipes? Herb/Spice containers? Fancy Spices? Dish Towels? Cocktail napkins? Amazing Beaded Pot Holders? (like from our very own Pottersville! ) Something else? I don't cook that much but an Amazing Beaded Pot Holder would be pretty awesome.   Are you an avid reader? What's your favorite book/series? Oh yes. I think I did a pretty good job of covering this in my questionnaire, but please let me know if you want to know more.   Coloring books: I actually do like them.   Do you have a Good Reads profile? If so, make with the link! If you don't have one, go make one! I don't have one. I've never heard of it. Maybe I'll o poke around later.   What was your favouritest job ever, and why? I've only ever had one job. And now that the company's tanking and they had to lay off 80% of their staff (including me) I need to find another one. That job was at a plant nursery and store. It was fun. I met some awesome people there and learned a lot about houseplants (that was the department I worked in).   What GC scent have you been putting off getting since it'll "always be there"? Oh man. There are a ton of these. My orders are almost always only or mostly LE. Which is bad because I'm freaking out since there have been a bunch of discontinuations lately. I really need a new bottle of Xiuhtecuhtli since I ruined mine a while back. And bottles of TKO, Depraved, The Bow and Crown of Conquest, and De Sade since I really love them and only have imps. I also keep meaning to buy a bottle of Snake Oil to cellar for a good long time. I've tried it before but wasn't impressed and I'm hoping I'd like it more aged.   Are you interested in things like home remedies for ailments, cleaning solutions, etc.? yes please!

SW Random questions 9/4

What sort of odd or regional foods do you crave? Oh man, I am SO glad this was asked.   A bit of back story: My entire family is English, proper living-in-the-UK English. I was born & raised in Canada & the US, but my parents steeped me in English culture - I have never lived there, but in some ways it is very much home to me. (Can you get nostalgic for a place you've never lived?) There are so many things that I had as a kid that I pine for now - when we lived in Chicago, most of it was easily obtainable, but now we're in PA, my options are shot.   Hard-to-find British foodstuffs that make me all wibbly & happy: Branston Pickle Milky Bars Black currant/gooseberry jam (though honestly, I am a jam whore - any kind will do!) Thick honey (Waitrose's Tanzanian Leatherwood & Sunflower honeys, esp) Battenburg Dark chocolate & plain Digestives (I could eat whole sleeves of the plain ones) Shredless marmalade (this is for my Mum, who had to turn her jar over to Customs on the flight home ) Smarties Rose's/Quality Street Taylor's of Harrogate Scottish Breakfast tea (loose or bags) Yorkshire Gold tea (loose or bags) Thank you!   Is anyone playing this round of SW into ABJ? (asian ball jointed dolls) No dolls at all, thank you.   Whats your favorite childhood toy? Oo. I was a nerdy bird even then, so books top the list. Colored pencils. I did have a doll house that got a lot of attention... Mostly I liked just exploring in the woods & fields, poking around in the mud & picking black raspberries... What is your favorite Halloween icon? Mm, bonfires. Punkies & all manner of lanterns. Bare trees, blowing leaves.   Favorite kind of take out kinda burger? Whats your burger preference? veggie, meat or ???? Gotta be veggie... there was a place in Evanston that did fantastically greasy, crispy veg burgers. Cheese, mustard, extra pickles   Imagine that you're given a shoebox-sized time capsule, and you are asked to put one item in that box that symbolizes who you are. It may be anything you can imagine, and money is no object, but you are limited to one item, and it must fit within the box. What item do you choose? A picture of a spreading tree, ancient & rooted to the center of the earth. As you tilt the photo, the tree reveals itself in different guises, according to the seasons. Its branches dance in the wind, showering the ground with scarlet leaves & huge ruddy gold apples. Its blossoms catch on the breeze & spiral toward heaven, and the swallows dive & flit between the petals. It stretches its roots to drink in the warm summer downpour. Its boughs shimmer with frost & shelter a myriad of tiny birds, fluffed out against the winter chill. Because it is a magic card, you can feel the breeze & smell the blossoms as you shift the photo, and an occasional swallow darts out of the picture & flutters about your head.   Are you involved in any long-term, ambitious project? something like decorating your house or saving for a trip to the other end of the world, for example. Ooooooh, the house. The house, the house, the house. (And raising our 3-year-old. But that's different.)   We bought a 1915 Arts & Crafts-style shingle bungalow 2 1/2 years ago, and it is our joy & our despair. So much potential, so much character, so much that needs work. We are trying to do some uplifting, cosmetic/quality of life projects, but the money & time keep getting diverted to basic safety/code compliance/major system issues. I am desperate to get the lighting re-done before winter sets in - it is awful, badly wired & UGLY, and parts of the house look worse than they really are, simply because the lighting is so bad. If you have a pet, what kind of gifts would be good for them? No pets, but I do spoil the local song birds A seed sock or small shelf feeder might be nice (something I can mount on the fence that faces the kitchen window), and I have to replace the suet cake every 3-4 days in the depths of winter... We get wrens, cardinals, mourning doves, juncos, chickadees, and the occasional titmouse, jay, and goldfinch. The wrens are my favorite   Twitter? Technically yes, but I rarely use it. It's strictly for work crap.   Ravelry? Oh yes. I am tartchef there, as well.   Would any witches be interested in home-made sewn type crafts? If so, what type? (e.g. tote bags, pillowcases, laptop covers, etc..) Absolutely - we are trying to ditch plastic grocery bags, so sturdy totes would be awesome. Tiny C is into packing his lunches now, so a neat lunch sack for him would make his day! Bonus points for Pixar Cars print, or sushi fabric What's your favorite color? Green, in nearly all its permutations, but grey is gaining as I get older...   Any other steampunk fans/lovers? Yes indeedy!

Fall Switch Witch 2009 questions

9/28What are your thoughts on incense? I like it, but I have plenty. What about handbags/totes/clutches? Being in a wheelchair doesn't afford one much use of one's pockets. I'm always on the lookout for a new pouch for my wallet, checkbook, pens and other incidentals. I generally prefer leather, but my primary requirements are that it must hang comfortably from a seatbelt without being burdensome in a sitting position. It must be easy to open can access in that position. It shouldn't be too bulky, otherwise it makes it more difficult to fit under tables. If that seems like a tall order, well... you can see why I'm always on the lookout for a better solution. Are there any particular movies you want on DVD? My Amazon wish list covers this pretty well. I've been adding things to it regularly as I think of them. What about stickers??Stickers clash heavily with my OCD. In the first place, my brain objects to marring the pristine surfaces of things. I don't even like it when they put the Windows and Intel stickers on my laptop. In the second place, a pristine sheet of stickers carries an enormous amount of possibility. I have trouble using them because once a sticker is peeled and placed, its nearly limitless potential is gone. Yes, I understand how neurotic that sounds.I do think I need the bumper sticker featured in this comic: http://wondermark.com/552/9/24Do you use henna at all? I don't use either, myself. I tend to associate it with holidays, weddings, and births, and I confess that, to me, it looks out of place in most other contexts. It would be something I'd consider doing for my wedding, were I to get married, and were my fiancée interested. Apart from that, I can't really see myself using it.What about 2010 Wall calenders? Or 2010 journals or appointment diaries? What subject? Wall calendars are wasted on me. The same is true for journals and appointment diaries. I haven't seen my favorite calendar in a long time (I used to get one that was oversized and featured reproductions of medieval musical manuscripts). Nowadays, I don't really have the space or inclination to hang one.I really do use schedulers at all, however, now that they've unveiled Microsoft's Courier tablet, I will be greedily coveting one once they become available. What are your thoughts on Halloween decorations? As I grow older, I find I really like fun, cute decorations (but not cutesy). I'm very partial to ghosts (I love hauntings and ghost stories in general), particularly Pac Man ghosts. With which tarot card do you most identify? I tend to vacillate between the Kings: wands, cups, swords, but never pentacles. I'm not a particularly grounded individual, as you might notice if you ever looked at my natal chart. If you could describe yourself in 5 words, what would they be? Humble and obedient Renaissance ManDo you collect new/used stamps? Will you like to get stamps on your mails? I don't collect stamps.Any WKAP you're excited about? Not really. It should be noted, however, that every time I see the acronym "WKAP" My brain automatically appends it with "In Cincinnaaaatiiiii."How do you feel about stationary? (pens, notepads, cards, pencils, etc.) I love pens. Fountain pens in particular (and if we're being particularly particular, I have a penchant for vintage fountain pens, and I've always wanted a Parker 51 and a Sheaffer Snorkel), but I find for writing purposes, medium body roller balls work better for my needs. I used to do a lot of writing with a feather quill dip pen, but it's not really something I can manage anymore.Would you object to anonymous postcards (real ones) from your witch before the big reveal??? That would be lovely.9/19Do you drink alcohol? Wine, beer or liquor? What is your favorite wine/beer/mixed drink? I do drink alcohol, and I enjoy a wide variety of drinks, although I tend to go in phases. In terms of wine, I prefer fruity red wines (not necessarily sweet, mind you, but with prominent fruit notes). I recently discovered Madison Cellars, and I've been enjoying their reds. White wine I prefer sweet over dry, and I particularly like Rieslings. I'm not a big fan of lagers, preferring ale or the occasional stout. I like smooth medium and dark ales with a hint of sweetness and nuttiness. In the summer, I like piña coladas (and getting caught in the rain) and margaritas. In the fall, gin and tonic or Gibson martini. In the winter, mulled wine Or mead. When ordering Japanese food, I like hot sake. I'm also fond of whiskey on occasion.I don't think I need any alcohol though. I like variety and trying new things, but at the rate I drink, a bottle lasts me forever.Do you like to find out there's a package on the way or to receive a tracking number to stalk, or do you prefer surprise packages? I'm okay either way. I really, strongly suggest that you send things with tracking confirmation, but you don't have to give me that number. The only exception is, if you decide to send me something perishable, please let me know so I can make sure someone is around to sign for it.If I were your witch, and I wanted to make you a spell or mojo bag, would you be into that? And, if you were, would you want it for something like love, prosperity or luck? Or would you want it for a certain element? Or would you want it for something more personal- and what might that be? Right now, something to draw money definitely wouldn't hurt.9/18Do you wear lip gloss/lip balm? If so, what flavors/scents? I don't go out of me way to be prettyin' up me lips, but aye... the cold salt sea air be chafin' me crew somethin' fierce. Somethin' with a hint of fruit so me boys don't get the scurvy.... And don't send nothin' with them spARRRRkles....What is one thing you constantly keep with you that you constantly loose? me mARRRRbles...What are your favorite fruits? arr... I be partial to mangoes, coconuts, bananas, pineapple, and... stARRRRfruitWhat is your favorite cookie type? Ho...Rum balls, o' course! But I also like me oatmeal, me peanut butter, me kolache, and me soft, chewy almond cookies (because they taste like mARRRRRzipan!)9/17Are you into 80s movies (like i am ) if so, which are your favorites and who are your favorite characters? I love 80s science fiction and fantasy movies. The Star Wars trilogy, of course (even though the first one was '77, I still think of the phenomenon as a whole being and 80s one), Aliens, The Last Starfighter, Enemy Mine, Blade Runner, Dragonslayer, Willow, Lady Hawke, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, The Princess Bride. Even the horrible, campy stuff like Hawk the Slayer. I also love Ferris Bueller's Day Off.Do you like Villainess soaps? What are your favorite scents? I don't like Villainess soaps, thanks.Do you mind artificial colors in your food? It doesn't matter too much to me.Who wants hair pretties?(headbands, barrettes, pony-o's, scrunchies, bobby pins, hair clips, etc) No, thank you. If you were my witchee, would you like any of the scents/sizes that are available on clearance? No, thank you. I am on an origami crane kick recently, so I wonder if anyone will be interested in origami crane earrings, origami crane in a glass vial (~1.2cm wide) phone charm/pendant or just a container filled with cranes of different sizes. No, thank you. How do you feel about clothing/accessories made from animals? Anti-fur, leather, shells, etc.? Does even faux wig you out? I'm okay with this. How do you deal with stress? What's your favorite way to unwind? My favorite way to unwind is to play video games. Sometimes I'll work on something creative instead, but I tend to find that more stress inducing than relaxing. You're given the opportunity to apprentice at any trade (or craft) of your choosing for the period of one year. Your mentor may be any currently living person. Which field of study would you choose, and who would be your mentor? When I create questions, I don't generally think about my responses, and so when I returned to answer them, sometimes they stump me. There are so many things I would love to learn to do. I would love to apprentice with Beth and learn how to make perfume blends. I would love to study traditional smithing techniques. I would love how to learn gold and silver smithing. I would love to learn how to make and repair clocks and watches. I would love to learn a dozen instruments. I would love to learn how to fence. A lot of these things are probably outside the scope of my ability, honestly, but I can dream. How about this one: I would like to learn sound design from Ben Burtt.9/16Who is musically inclined? What instruments (voice counts) do you play? Would you enjoy sheet music? I sing. I dabble at lap harp and kantele. I used to play many more instruments: piano, accordion, recorder, ocarina, tin whistle, siku, tarka. I don't have the upper arm strength to play those anymore. Today, most of my music is made with a computer.Favorite musicals? I love musicals. I grew up with them. I used to perform in them. They are a very integral aspect of my personality. I wrote my first musical in high school at the age of 15, and I will probably write others in my lifetime. They're very important to me.My favorites... it's hard to choose. Brigadoon and My Fair Lady, for the memories. The Music Man, for its musical and lyrical cleverness. Jesus Christ Superstar, for being a large part of my childhood. Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds, although not a stage musical, still a huge part of my childhood. Into the Woods, for making Sondheim accessible. Sweeney Todd, for blowing my mind. Chess, for some truly groovy music. The Secret Garden, because I've always wanted to play Uncle Archibald on stage.Which of the seven deadly sins is most likely to be your undoing? Do I have to choose? Really? Can't I succumb to more than one? Perhaps all of them? Anyone want a nickname and embroidered headband from PandaBite? Why pay someone to give me an obnoxious nickname when you can have the pleasure of coming up with it yourself?I have seen a lot of yankee candles haters..... personally i like yankee candle (some of them, anyway). do you or don't you, and if not, what candles do you like? this assumes you like candles. otherwise, what specific home fragrance do you use? Scented candles are a very hit or miss thing with me. I don't have a particular hatred of Yankee Candles, but I find that most candles I've tried smell too synthetic for my tastes. At the moment, I mainly use incense (sandalwood, cedar, pine). Sometimes I'll let spices simmer on the stove for a more foodie smell. I don't particularly like florals, and I'm generally apathetic about citrus/fruit notes. I do love candles, however, and if you have some secret source of amazing smelling candles, I certainly wouldn't mind trying something new.Would a "gift" donation to one of the organizations/causes you support be a great gift, or a lame gift? That would be wonderful. I give a pretty detailed description of my charity preferences in my questionnaire, so I'm not going to repeat them here. I do love the idea of adopting a creature though. And I don't think I mentioned it before, But I really love the idea of providing micro loans to people in developing countries. If I had more money to invest, I think that would be a pretty wonderful way to invest in humanity.9/15Does anyone have any symbols they consider to be personally significant or talismanic? The Awen and the Ouroboros, naturally, which is why I combined the two into my personal symbol, the Awen Ddiderfyn: Are there any Gods, Goddess, or other mythological figures of whom you're particularly fond? Ganesha, Shiva, Loki, Hela, Fenrir, Jörmungandr, Ceridwen, Taliesin, VäinämöinenSuper villain or vigilante? Let me see... Cultured tastes? Check. Desirous of the finer things in life? Check. Keen palate? Check. Genius level intellect? Check. Occasionally obsessive? Check. Not the least bit hindered by modesty? Check.I'm afraid I'm either a super villain, or Wile E. Coyote. What mythical or fantastic race of creatures (dragons, unicorns, griffins, elves, dwarves, faeries, etc.) do you most identify with, and why? I'm a dwarf through and through. Although, I admit I find deep serenity in woodlands, so perhaps I'm a dwarf that dreams of being an elf? (Heresy!)How do you feel about Dia de los Muertos? Are you interested in sugar skulls? Catrina (or other) skeleton figurines? I find it interesting, and i find the items beautiful, but I'm not particularly looking for this sort of thing.Do you have a favorite poem or poet? Nope, but I have a lot of close contenders: William Shakespeare, William Blake, Percy Shelley, Lord Byron, William Butler Yeats, Rainer Maria Rilke, T.S. Eliot, E.E. Cummings, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Mark Strand.9/14For the crafty people out there: would you prefer something crafted or crafting supplies? I would prefer something crafted, but as I said before, I would be perfectly happy to receive more fantasy miniatures. Can you use pill boxes, a hard ID case, coin purse, etc? All of these would be really cool. Coin purses, in general tend to be too effeminate for my tastes, but if you can come up with something a gentleman might store his coins in, that would be wonderful gift.Any songs you are desperately into at the moment? Nothing new. I've had Jonathon Coulton stuck in my head for the past few days. I'm pretty sure it's Sheyona's fault. What's autumn like in your neck of the woods? What do you love and/or hate about it? Autumn is lovely, with beautiful changes in the leaves and usually just enough rain to keep me satisfied. Summer is the time when I want thunder and rain storms, but in autumn, I want cool mornings and chilly drizzles. All too soon, however, it turns into winter, and there's every indication that it's going to be a cold one this year. What's your favorite product(s) at Trader Joe's? Goodness, please no. I don't even want to think about it. I'm Trader Joe's junk food free at the moment, but this is how it all starts. You get something seemingly innocuous in the mail, and you think, "I have willpower. I can savor these slowly, and when they are gone, no big deal." But it is a big deal, because as soon as you finish mouthing those words between bites, you realize you've polished off the entire package, and now, you simply have to have more (for mom, or hubby, or kids, or boyfriend, mind you. After all, they didn't get their fair share), and so you wander off to Trader Joe's, Just to replace that one package. And oh, hey, let's see if they have that triple chocolate stout again, and hey, this wasabi the trail mix looks wonderful, and oh....Pretty soon, you're at The Church of Trader Joe's every Sunday morning, filling up your shopping cart with carton after carton of those damnable chocolate chip dipping cookies.Anyone who would do that to me is a false witch, and a true sadist. If you're caught in front of the tv, what are you watching? I don't have cable, so if I'm watching anything, it's probably a DVD or Bluray I've popped in.Any Amy Brown art fans? Not my cup of tea.How do you feel about Halloween music? (mix CDs, what have you) I'd be okay with this. I don't like music piracy, but I think mix CDs are kind of art form unto themselves, and as long as you're sending me 15 songs and not 1500, I think it's harmless enough.Who else is reeeeeally looking forward to Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland? I am not. Reeeeeally not. I realize saying such a thing is akin to blasphemy in this forum, but I am sick unto death of Burton/Depp collaborations. Is there a store that you love which does not have a location near you (but that has a physical presence somewhere, not just online?) Why do you love it so much? I can't really think of one, honestly. I miss the shops on State Street in Madison, but that was largely a matter of convenience rather than a love of any particular shop. If I think of something, I'll come back to this.Lolcats....yeah or nay? Like all things of the internet, I think there are some really funny, clever ones, and I think there are a lot of not funny, overplayed, past-their-prime ones. I can definitely appreciate the really funny ones, and also the especially adorable ones, but overall lolcats and their vernacular aren't particularly appealing. What is your favorite creepy folk story or legend? Oh, I don't know that I have a favorite. My favorite is the one being currently told to me.If your witch were to either write something for you or put together a collection of ghost stories, would you rather have it in writing, recorded as an oral telling, or both? I think either would be wonderful. If you had the funds to comission an original painting for yourself, what would it be of? What would it be like- colors, size, style? It would be a watercolor painting of dwarves. Something that looked like it came out of an old storybook, with the dwarves wearing liripipe hoods (for the men) and kerchiefs for the women. I imagine the colors being dreamy, washed, again evocative of an old storybook. As for the subject matter, the scene I have in mind would be an Escher-esque forced perspective view of their cavernous mountain home—a vertical panorama, if you will—depicting a close-up of the floor of the hall, like a medieval city, with shops and houses, and then rising high above to the cavern ceiling, with paths clinging to the sides of the rock walls, and vast bridges and stairways arcing high overhead. Clinging to the walls here and there would be other buildings: homes, crenellated fortifications, perhaps a mill being powered by a waterfall....... you realize that now that you've made me imagine this, I'm not going to be able to let it go until I can afford to have it commissioned, right?9/12 & 9/13What's something you're really looking forward to in the semi-near future? I don't really have anything like that on the horizon, sad to say. Receiving my first swap package? What fictional character do you most identify with and why? Hmm... I can get you characters who I aspire to be like, but in terms of who I am, I would probably have to say Tyrion Lannister, from George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. In reality, though, Tyrion's insecurities dwarf my own, no pun intended.Could you use a 'travel' imp case? How many should it hold? Thanks, but I really don't think I would need this sort of thing. As a witchee, would you prefer to have many little packages sent to you throughout the round with a not-so-big final package or fewer things throughout the round with one huge final package to seal the sweetness? I don't really have a preference, as long as I feel on some level that someone is paying attention to me. It's definitely nice to receive more than one package, but I would be happy with two packages, or even just one big one, as long as my witch maintains regular communication. What is your idea of the perfect evening at home? Ordering out, and then, depending largely on whether I want company, watching a film, reading a book, or playing a game. I'm easily contented. What kind of socks? Thin, stretchy, lightweight, knee-high girly socks! (Really!)How often do you update your wishlist? I don't have a formal BPAL WishList. I update my Amazon wishlist as regularly as I can remember. This is sometimes not very regularly, but I try to be more conscientious around this time of year when people are looking to shop for my birthday/Christmas. It wouldn't hurt to check back periodically.May I help you fill out your costuming wardrobe (assuming you costume)? Are there articles you are seeking to enhance your a) Halloween costume, Renfest attire, c) Cosplay, d) Steampunk accouterment? I'm always interested in new and interesting period hats and accessories. The trouble is, my head is very large (size 8), so while I love top hats, fedoras, and jaunty haberdashery of all shapes and sizes, it's very hard to find interesting hats that actually fit. If you like making hats, and can remedy this problem, I will love you forever. In terms of outfits, however... because of the peculiarities of my body shape, tailoring clothing to fit me is not a chore I would advise undertaking. I appreciate the offer.Who are your favorite artists/illustrators/art periods? Remedios Varo (and I am continually dismayed that so few people have heard of her), MC Escher, Evelyn De Morgan, Albrecht Dürer, Edmund Leighton, Gustave Caillebotte, Alfons Mucha, Max Ernst, Hieronymus Bosch, Brian Froud, Wayne Anderson. In general I love surrealist works, fantasy illustration, and medieval illumination. What's your stance on cranberries? I love cranberry sauce (provided it doesn't have mayonnaise in it. Someone actually served me that once). Apart from that, I'm not a huge fan. It's not a dealbreaker, but it's not something I go actively seeking in my food.Do you mind receiving used (in good condition, of course) CDs or DVDs? That would be lovely. Perhaps I should fill up my wish list with more CDs and DVDsDo you have a crush on anyone famous? Do you have a crush on any literary characters? Would you like fanfiction or fan art based on this/these people? I develop fast, intense crushes on women with beautiful singing voices, but I don't have any at the moment. I don't really develop crushes on fictional characters either. You're at home, or out, and you want a snack. Something that will get you through to the next meal, or through to the end of school or what ever. What do you grab? I love cashews, and they are one of my primary go-to snacks.Do you have a favorite bpal bottle art? I don't, really. There is some wonderful art to be found on the bottles, but I don't think I have a particular favorite. Are there any decants from the Halloweenies, Literary Vampires, Gris Grimly, or Hellboy that you would be interested in receiving? I would be pleased to receive decants out any of these collections, although the one I think I would like to try the most is Trevor Bruttenholm.9/11There has been a lot of talk about chocolate, but none about Candy! What is your favorite Candy? What candy do you hate? My favorite candy is marzipan, without a doubt. Least favorite? I'm not sure. Probably melon flavored hard candies. I don't mind hard candy, but I'm not crazy about melon.Do you have a Blu-Ray player? I have a PlayStation 3, which functions as a bluray player.Do you have any objections to receiving downloads? Is your internet connection fast enough for you to download large files like music easily? Are there any songs, albums, movies, or TV shows that you can't find/haven't been released that you want? I have no objection to receiving downloads, however I do have a strong objection to piracy of all media. I'm okay with downloads as long as they are something that is legal to download: public domain, open-source licenses, or materials that are legally paid for/given permission for. Anything else, I appreciate the offer, but it simply doesn't sit well with me.9/10If you do any kind of craft, could you use supplies? What kind? knitting needles, yarn, amazing fabric, pinking shears, cool thimbles or pincushins, jewelery making supplies, beads, etc.? I don't really do those kinds of crafts anymore. About the closest I come is collecting and painting fantasy miniatures. What's your favorite pain-relief remedy or ritual? I take four ibuprofen, and if that doesn't help, it's time to lie down and try to sleep it off.Do sounds make you happy? What ambient noises make you smile? The sound of pouring rain, the distant rumble of thunder, cats purring. When you receive your SW packages...do you like receiving things that are individually wrapped inside? or unwrapped? or both? I love unwrapping things, so individually wrapped presents are my favorite.Of course, we're all going to be grateful no matter what our witches give us, but for the record, what is your anti-present? Tell us something that you think your future witch might give you that you absolutely, unequivocally DO. NOT. WANT. I've mentioned bar soap several times, so I think my witch probably has that one figured out. What BPAL scent have you never tried but always wanted to? What scent have you tried and LOVED, and haven't been able to get more of and why? I've always wanted to try Ah'duno. I had a chance to sniff it once, but I could never get my hands on my own vial. One I love that I've never been able to get more of is Quincy Morris. In particular, I'd like to get some for my brother, but I've never been able to secure more of it.I know we're all scent sensitive here. What are your favorite non-perfume smells? Day in the life stuff? Petrichor (the smell released by the soil before rain), the smell of rain itself, autumn leaves, baking cornbread, bacon, coffee, mown grass, freshwater lakes and rivers, old books, new fallen snow, pipe tobacco, woodsmoke, gasoline (yes, really).Coffee drinkers, what types of beans to you like? Kona, Sumatra, Kenya..etc. How do you like them roasted? Do you like flavors, such as hazelnut, vanilla, etc. in your coffee? I really enjoy variety in my coffee, although I'm particularly fond of peaberry varieties. I tend to vary what I buy so that I can don't tire of any particular blend or flavor. I love flavored coffee, and my particular favorites are hazelnut and toffee. What I am not particularly fond of is pumpkin coffee. It's just not a flavor combination I'm fond of. Pumpkin chai however....Who has a birthday falling in this round? I mentioned it earlier, but yes, my birthday is on October 22nd.For those of us who like chocolate, do you like anything /in/ your chocolate, like fruit, nuts, or for the more daring among us, chilies? My favorite candy bar, hands down, is Cadbury's fruit and nut bar. I love chocolate with fruit and nuts. I've never been particularly crazy about chocolate and chilies. It has its place, but it's not one of my favorite flavors. Are there any childhood shows/movies/games/books/etc. that still hold a really special place in your heart? My favorite television series as a child was The Mysterious Cities of Gold, which used the air on Nickelodeon back in the mid-80s when they had a lot less money and a lot more class. They finally got around to releasing this one on DVD in the US, and I snatched up my copy right away. The other big cartoon from childhood was The Flight of Dragons. They've never officially released that one on DVD—you can find shady companies pirating it, but that's about it—and I'm afraid they never will, but at least you can usually catch it on Youtube. Star Wars was a huge part of my life. One day George Lucas will finally cave and release good copies of the original films (or else he'll die and 20 seconds after his death, the executives at Fox will do it for him. Until then I will remain mildly resentful.Games... I believe I've mentioned my love for Dungeons & Dragons and board games of all types. I love classic video games and classic arcade machines. Were it not for my disability, I would likely own at least one.Books... I really loved Choose Your Own Adventure books. The best ones were aimed at older kids and involved dice and combat rules, so they really were a lot like a single player form of Dungeons & Dragons. I read every one I could get my hands on, and I would probably play through them again if I had the chance.9/9Super power? Batman doesn't have superpowers. If I send you whole spices or coffee beans, would you be able to grind them or would you prefer them preground for your convenience? I vastly prefer whole beans to preground coffee. In terms of spices, however... as I've said before, I'm not much of a cook. I don't really have a preference, and the gift of whole spices would probably be wasted on me.For the tea and coffee drinkers: Opinion on tea- and/or coffee-related accessories/etc? (Teaware, sugar crystals, infusers, tea chests, etc)How do you take your coffee (or tea)? Black or with cream and/or sugar? I have a love for beautiful tea infusers. Unfortunately, they don't make them very much anymore. Plain tea balls and teaspoons rule the day. Occasionally I've found infusers in cute shapes, but nothing artistically striking. I'd be happy to received coffee and tea related paraphernalia. I generally take my coffee and black tea with milk or cream and sweetener. On the occasions I drink green tea, I prefer it lightly sweetened, although if it's particularly good tea, I'll sometimes drink it unsweetened.Restaurants you'd like a gift certificate to on Restaurant.com? No thank you. In your perfect world it is chocolate and...? I'm not sure chocolate actually has any bearing on my conceptualization of a perfect world. Certainly not when you go about dipping men in it.How do you scent your home: tarts, reed diffusers, BPAL, candles? I've used diffusers before, but I don't particularly care for the concept. Most of the time, I'll light some incense. What's your favorite dessert treat? Ice cream? Cake? Pie? Fudge brownie cake with pie flavored ice cream on top? I don't think I have a favorite. It depends on my mood. It depends on what's being served for dinner (e.g., there's something that just feels right about having traditional sakura mochi after a satisfying sushi dinner, but it's not something that I crave after a hamburger). Sometimes the perfect "dessert" is an after dinner drink followed by a good nights sleep. The notion of desert can be highly subjective. Do you believe we control our destiny, or does our destiny control us? I'm actually fairly deterministic in my philosophy. I believe in the great chain of causality, beginning at Time 0—the creation of the known universe—and moving inexorably forward, action begetting reaction until our universe either collapses in upon itself or succumbs to entropy and heat death. As such, destiny is a misnomer, because it implies a guiding hand, and I don't believe such a thing exists in the universe. There is no great orchestrator, no great maker. There is no inspired plan. However, if the universe is absolutely causal, there's no room for genuine randomness. Thus, free will is a kind of illusion as well. Our choices are influenced by our experience, which is in turn determined by the experience of others, influenced by and actions and reactions of the universe around us and all that has come before us. We cannot behave outside this chain of events. On the other hand, I believe the notion of free will is largely semantic. Ultimately, many things we take for granted in the universe are merely illusions. We think of ourselves as corporeal beings, but ultimately we are comprised of tiny bits of energy. We can look to our arms, think of them as solid, and yet we are built of building blocks with a relative amount of space between them. Particles of sufficiently small size can pass through these gaps. It's entirely possible that the nature of causality as we perceive it is an illusion as well. If we were capable of viewing for dimensional objects, how we perceive the universe? Would it unfold like an enormous fractal with all morons existing at once? I don't know. And so, I don't believe there's any real point in arguing about whether or not the choices we make can be considered free will. We can call choice free will because even if the future is already determined, we act with out any clear understanding of it. We are forever making choices in an infinitely small moment we call now. Those choices, influenced by everything that came before us, are still our own. If it comforts us, at some level, to call the state of being free will, why should we deny ourselves the peace of mind? What one thing that is missing from your life would you like to have above all else? Why do I make my own questions so difficult? I'm pretty happy with my life overall, but if I let my mind wander, I can certainly think of a few things I wish I had. I wish I had the money to take care of the problems my family is facing. I wish I had a job, suited to my talents, that I could do from home, but that's essentially a practical version of my first statement. I would like mobility without pain. I would like to be in a fulfilling romantic relationship. I would like to have a tightknit circle of friends that live closer to me.These are all things I want. But when it comes right down to it, I think what I want most is focus: a driving conviction that I'm doing what I should be doing with my life rather than feeling constantly like a dilettante.9/8Which three albums would you take to your apocalypse bolt hole and how would you power the generator? I would never build such a thing, and so I must assume that I purchased/was given a pass into a facility capable of holding a community of people. If so, our power needs have probably been carefully considered. Rather than albums, I would bring either my harp or my kantele, and keep the music in my head. Even with a fairly stable power source, we're going to be wanting to ration power. Better not to waste that power on a stereo. With a musical instrument and my voice I can entertain myself and others, and provide a useful service to the community. I'd better bring extra strings, though. What GC scent have you been putting off getting since it'll "always be there"? Hmm... Dorian. I still don't have any Dorian. I haven't really looked at the catalog in a long time, so I'm sure there are other things that I'm missing that I should definitely try.Are you interested in things like home remedies for ailments, cleaning solutions, etc.? Do you have a home remedy for dispelling bad luck/drawing good fortune. I confess I could use a bit of that.9/7Any cooks? Could you use anything cooking related? Aprons? Cookbooks? Measuring Cups? Recipes? Herb/Spice containers? Fancy Spices? Dish Towels? Cocktail napkins? Amazing Beaded Pot Holders? (like from our very own Pottersville! ) Something else? I'm not particularly useful in the kitchen. I can't think of anything I'd really want or need. What's your favorite candy to stock up on at Halloween? I don't go out of my way to purchase Halloween candy for myself. That said, I wouldn't mind receiving a small amount. It's the variety that makes Halloween candy appealing, in my opinion: the mixture of really cheap, awful candy, candy that was pretty good, and the occasional piece of really great candy. What is your favourite flower (or plant)? English ivy. For flowers, snapdragons.Duct tape purses and wallets and things are pretty darned cool. Who else thinks so? Not my style, but to each their own.An anonymous benefactor gives you $500 (or an equivalent amount of money in your currency of choice) with the following stipulations. You must spend all of it within a week: any money left unspent must be returned. You must spend at least half of the money on yourself. You may not use it to pay off debts or bills of any kind. What do you do with the money? Assuming I got it today, I would go ahead and grab The Beatles: Rock Band (which... I was planning on doing anyway, but it would certainly make my budgeting easier. After that, I'd go Switch Witch shopping and then treat my family to a nice dinner.Who likes coloring books? I can appreciate them, but I don't collect them or anything, and I probably wouldn't use one. Do you know what I still love? Where's Waldo? My copy of The Great Waldo Search was destroyed, and that had some amazing illustrations. I really miss that book.Even better? Books that are interactive puzzles like this one.Are you an avid reader? What's your favorite book/series? Yes. Yes, I'm an avid reader. A few of my favorite books: El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra; Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky; Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas R. Hofstadter; Les Misérables by Victor Hugo; The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco; The Compass Rose by Ursula K. Le Guin; A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin; Perdido Street Station by China Miéville; Beauty by Sheri S. TepperDo you have a Good Reads profile? If so, make with the link! If you don't have one, go make one! I don't have one, and I really don't think I need another webspace to neglect. 9/6You're in the kitchen at the end of a pay period and groceries are pretty scarce. Do you take the five ingredients you find first and make something fabulous, or do you order take out? Something fabulous? No. No one should have that much faith in my culinary skills. Something edible? That's possible. Honestly, I would probably order out unless I was desperately short on money, in which case, I almost always have some cappellini on hand. Even in the absence of tomato sauce... a little butter, some grated Parmesan. It's not exactly the most balanced meal, but I won't starve. If you could decorate/redecorate any 1 room in your home, what would it be and how would you decorate it? I only have a truly vested interest in one room in my house: my bedroom. I'm very happy with the way it looks, and I'm not prepared to redecorate yet. That said, I would probably redecorate our kitchen. I would tear out our existing cabinetry start from scratch. Marble countertops, tile walls, brand-new everything.Any rabid sports fans out there? What teams do you root for? I am definitely not a rabid sports fan, but I do enjoy watching a game now and again. In general, if the Chicago team is playing, I root for them. If not, I root for whoever I feel like at any given second, and my team of preference may change throughout the game.. There are only two notable exceptions to this. The first is when the White Sox play the Cubs, in which case, I always root for the Sox. The other is Manchester United versus Liverpool, in which case, I will support Liverpool with my dying breath. What's your favorite animal? (You can have more than one.) I'm fond of snakes, armadillos, pangolins, and cetaceans of various persuasions. This is how the world ends... zombie apocalypse, robot uprising, alien invasion, return of the elder gods... which doomsday scenario do you prefer (or make your own!)?. I tend to think the world is going to end in some ridiculous, unforeseeable way. In Douglas Adams fashion, our planet will be vaporized to make way for a galactic highway. Aliens will invade, but they'll be unicellular organisms: benign diatoms that multiply at an alarming rate and smother the planet to death. God will flush his final project down the toilet after having only gotten a B- on it.In the year 2525... if man is still alive... what sort of future do you imagine? The next 100 years is going to be very telling for humanity. We have so many systems on the verge of collapse, and the outlook doesn't look promising. Despite that, human beings have proven very difficult to kill, and the planet Earth is nothing if not resilient. I think we're going to make it. I don't think our future will be perfect, but I do think we are too tenacious to die off that easily.I don't believe our future will be apocalyptic, but there will be a lot of death in the next 500 years, there will be climate change, there will be countries that collapse and other countries that rise to take their place. I hesitate to call our future dystopian, because I think ultimately, if we call this sort of future dystopian, we must affirm that our present is dystopian, and that vast majority of human civilization since the dawn of history has been functionally dystopian. I don't believe we can effectively judge our future selves through modern-day societal filters. I do think their way of life will be as alien to us as ours would be to a medieval man.I do think it will be fascinating, and exhilarating, and terrifying, and ugly, and also beautiful. I wish, in some ways, I could see what happens.Do you believe in magic (or magick, if you prefer)? What does it mean to you? I do, but I'm not even certain in what context I believe in it or why. I share Hamlet's conviction, "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."If you found the puzzle box from Hellraiser, what would you do with it? ( and would you be able to resist playing with it? ) I agree with Wildbriar. If I recognized it for what it was, I would encase it in a 5' x 5' block of concrete and drop it into the deepest part of the ocean. Firing it into the sun would be even better, although less practical. If I didn't know what it was, I fear the world would be doomed.9/5Do you like pinup art/images? Not particularly, no.What are your plans for Halloween? Have you made any yet? Do you have any traditions? I would love to have plans for Halloween, but I will be at home wishing I had a party to attend, and the means to attend it. Perhaps I should be the one holding a party.Who are your BPAL forum buddies? You know, people I could conspire with to Witch you! Goodness, I don't know. Heartbeast and Merlu might, if they have time. Laurel the Woodfairy might. I went to school briefly with waternight, and she might be willing to help. I'm not sure. I'm fond of a lot of people here, but most of them still feel like relative strangers to me. I'm not sure if any of them would be willing to conspire on my behalf. What is your favorite color? My favorite color changes with my mood, but in general, I like bold colors: Hunter Green, cobalt blue, Royal purple, Venetian red, Gold. I also like warm, earthy browns, and French grays.Any other steampunk fans/lovers? I'm not what I would consider a huge fan, but I loved the aesthetic long before I knew there was a term for it. I still have visions of transforming my new wheelchair into a steampunk work of art, a la George Pál's version of The Time Machine.Describe your ideal picnic lunch. Where would you go? Who (if anyone, and yes there can be multiple people) would accompany you? What sort of food would you take? And, of course, if a picnic lunch sounds like a horrible idea, feel free to say so! I think I'd like to invite this switch witch group to come picnic with me. We'll have our picnic at Graue Mill. It's a large group, so everyone will be responsible for bringing a dish or two. For my part, I'll bring Swedish meatballs (both beef and vegetarian), cornbread, cane sugar soda, iced tea, and perhaps a couple bottles of my favorite Riesling.9/4Any Gamers here? What kind? Board games? RPG? Miniature? MMORPG? I'm a gamer. I'm a gamer in pretty much every sense of the word. I love RPGs, and I've been playing them for well over two decades now. I am quite enamored with fourth edition Dungeons & Dragons, and I've collected almost every supplement to date.I love board games, and I collect vintage board games (old 1970s-1980s boardgames, primarily). I'm always on the lookout for old fantasy-inspired boardgames (Hero Quest, Dungeon, Dark Tower, Dragonlance), Star Wars-inspired boardgames, and video game-inspired boardgames. It can be hard to find these games, much less with all the pieces intact.More than boardgames, however, I love video games. They are my favored method of relaxation, particularly when I'm feeling too tired to be particularly creative or social. In general, I'd rather be social, but there are times when pure escapism wins out, and I just want to spend a few hours exploring life as a noble hero, space marine, assassin, or... you know... Batman. Is anyone playing this round of SW into ABJ? (asian ball jointed dolls) I appreciate the art form, but no. I've never really had much of an interest. What is your favorite Halloween icon? Probably the little ghost. Imagine that you're given a shoebox-sized time capsule, and you are asked to put any number of items in the box that symbolize who you are. The items can be may be anything you can imagine, and money is no object, but they must fit within the box. Which items do you choose? In the original spirit of the question, I'm going to answer with both a one item answer and with a multiple item answer.Multiple items: A black muffin cap adorned with a feather (this can easily be folded or rolled, so I'm not particularly concerned about space), a fountain pen without any ink, a set of polyhedral dice, three cards from the Rider Waite tarot deck (The King of Wands, The Eight of Cups, The Three of Swords), a soprano recorder, a book of matches, and a postcard of MC Escher's "Relativity." On the back is written:Yesterday, upon the stair,I met a man who wasn’t thereHe wasn’t there again todayI wish, I wish he’d go away...If I may only choose one item, it would be thus: a cunningly crafted music box, in the likeness of the twin Voyager probes. When wound, it plays "To Dream the Impossible Dream."Are you involved in any long-term, ambitious project? something like decorating your house or saving for a trip to the other end of the world, for example. I'm currently writing a novel, programming a video game, and compiling songs for an album.Favorite kind or take out kinda burger? Whats your burger preference? Veggie, meat or ???? I like a good hamburger now and again, but I've never had one that I would consider a religious experience. A burger is a burger is a burger. I prefer mine with bacon and occasionally mushrooms, but apart from that, I don't have a great deal of preference. I don't like Black Angus burgers, however. Veggie burgers... it really depends. If it's trying to be meat, I will almost certainly hate it. There are many very tasty veggie burgers out there, however, that are wonderful primarily because they don't disguise what they are. I don't generally eat them, however, so I couldn't offer specific brandsWhats your favorite childhood toy? My very favorite toys were the Star Wars Micro Collection toys released in the early 80s. Here is my favorite set from the Micro Collection toys. Each set came with little painted metal miniatures of the characters. I loved these specifically because even as a kid I had a range of motion issues. The larger 3 3/4 inch action figures had really cool vehicles and playsets, but they were large and difficult for a kid with a physical disability to use effectively. The micro collection toys let me have the entirety of cloud city, or the death Star, or what have you right at my fingertips. Much later, there was an entirely different line of micro figures and vehicles. I had a few, for nostalgia's sake, but they were a little disappointing. Somehow, they lacked the character of those original toys, or perhaps they merely lacked the love of a five-year-old Star Wars fanatic. If you have a pet, what kind of gifts would be good for them? My cats love little catnip toys, kitty treats (I think they all prefer fish flavored), the occasional tin of tuna... apart from catnip toys none of them take very much interest in toys. In fact they tend to shun anything not food related that is freely given to them. It's only interesting if one of the humans (a.k.a. "the staff") doesn't want them to have it.Do you Tweet? What is your Twitter name? I dislike Twitter immensely, so no.Are you on Ravelry? What is your Ravelry name? No. I don't believe I've ever heard of it.9/3What are everyone's favorite Halloween-y/Autumn-y/spooky movies? Are there any you don't own but would like to? I don't really have a tradition. Just recently, I acquired a huge box full of 250 horror films (old, campy public domain stuff), and I'll probably be working my way through those all season. Are roasted pumpkin seeds and home made chex mix the best fall snack foods, or what? I'm not a big fan of roasted pumpkin seeds anymore, but I love chex mix.Whats your favorite pie, my dear SW's? I've never met a pie I didn't like, but particular favorites include pumpkin, brown sugar, French silk, blueberry, Dutch apple, peach... dare I go on?... strawberry rhubarb... key lime... coconut cream... quiche?... chicken?... steak and kidney?... stargazey? (the squeamish might not want to look that last one up)Err… yes. I like pie. Yes.What kinda socks are you wearing tonight? I'm not wearing socks.Do you like socks? Blankets? Wrist warmers? Arm warmers? Headband? Shawl? Or what kind of knitted thing would you love the most? Knitted socks aren't particularly good idea for me. But if you were to knit me an afghan or a shawl, I would adore you forever. How do you feel about ghost stories? Do you like to tell the old tales around a campfire? Read true accounts on the web way past your bedtime? I love ghost stories. As a kid I used to thrive on them. I love when they are allegedly true. I love when there is documented evidence to support the claims. When it comes to things like ghosts and alien abductions, I consider myself a skeptic. But in the end, I always come back, driven by the desire to know.Do you like to pick up a good anthology of Poe stories on a blustery day? Or is all that too scary for you? I love Poe's work, and also Lovecraft's, but I don't find either particularly scary. I do love a good scary story, but I haven't really found any in a long time.Who here is LOVING Warehouse 13? I hadn't heard of it until this question appeared. I don't have cable. It sounds rather like the old Friday the 13th TV series with a little X-Files thrown in for good measure. Could be interesting. I'll have to give it a look when it comes to DVD.Nother question! Coffee or Tea? Both. There are times when I prefer one or the other. Lately, I've been in a coffee mood, but I swing back and forth between the two. Of late, I've become particularly fond of peaberry coffees. I love trying new varieties of coffee, gourmet blends, unusual flavors. I also like supporting coffee farmers through fair trade. On many levels, that would be a wonderful gift. In terms of tea, I prefer black teas over green teas or white teas. I'm not a big fan of herbal teas. My favorite tea is Glengettie, which is imported from the UK, and rather difficult to find around here. It makes a lovely stiff cup of tea.Interested in locally produced products? Food, skincare or both?Olive oil? Lavender oils or soaps? Not particularly. I've already discussed skincare products in my questionnaire. I don't do much cooking, and so a product like olive oil, used primarily for cooking, has little appeal to me. (Although, admittedly, I do love olive oil in place of butter on fresh baked bread.)Does anyone in here wear a lot of dangly earrings or collect pendants of all kinds?? How about hair clips or pony tail band things? I used to wear dangly earrings. Typically I would wear a dangling earring in one ear and a hoop in the other. I've pretty much given up on earrings, however. My hair is also now much too short for a pony tail band. Pendants, however, I'm quite fond of: particularly those with a medieval flavor, and those made with interesting found items. What is your favourite historical period? Oh dear.... you know, I really don't think I have one. There's a sort of implied romanticism when one chooses a favorite time or place, and I don't really feel that sort of bond or pull with any particular culture or period. I certainly can't think of many historical periods in which I would prefer to live. In any case, I'm too fascinated by the evolution of human culture as a whole, and by the multitude of unsolved mysteries before us to settle down and fall in love with any one time and place. What other hot beverages everyone likes for fall? and have a great fondness for hot chocolate and mulled wine. I'm not particularly fond of hot cider, although I will drink it on rare occasion. I love hot sake, but typically only with Japanese fair. I love mead, but I actually prefer it at room temperature.Did you order anything from the most recent update? I ordered a bronze library skeleton plaque.Vampires or Werewolves? Or some other monster? If I have to choose between the two, werewolves win. I'm prefer my monsters to be a little bit more edge-of-awareness, however. Vengeful spirits, alien abductors...What sort of odd or regional foods do you crave? I admit it. I have strange—some would say unnatural—cravings for meat products other people might find unsettling: blood sausage, haggis, scrapple, etc. I like uni (sea urchin), which is definitely an acquired taste. None of this does my witch the least bit of good, of course, unless he or she knows of a way to safely ship various and sundry alarming meat products, but these are the only odd things in my diet that I can think of at the moment.

Switch Q&A: Fall 2009

What are everyone's favorite Halloween-y/Autumn-y/spooky movies? Are there any you don't own but would like to? Nightmare Before Christmas!!! I own it. Maybe multiple times. I also like pretty much anything Tim Burton (his all count as spooky, right?) Y'know, Corpse Bride, Edward Scissorhands, Big Fish, Sleepy Hollow, etc. etc. Harry Potter reminds me of Autumn for some reason, so I usually watch those all again. I am open to other Autumn-y or Spooky movies. I don't usually watch "thrillers" much anymore... when I was younger I watched the whole Halloween / Nightmare on Elm Street / Friday the 13th / Night of the Living Dead / Hellraiser, etc. type movies but not so much anymore. Waxworks was (is?) on On-Demand so I started watching that the other night. I guess I still like campy dorky movies at least. So maybe I would like WaxWorks, Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, those kinds of things. Or whatever else. I'm easy. I have: Sleepy Hollow, NMBC, Edward Scissorhands, Lost Boys, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Brothers Grimm, Underworld (maybe?), Sean of the Dead (LOVE. IT.), all of the Harry Potter movies, Coraline, Planet Terror, etc.   Are roasted pumpkin seeds and home made chex mix the best fall snack foods, or what? Um, sure. (What is home made chex mix?) As long as we aren't doing corn syrup or MSG -- om nom nom.   what kinda socks ar you wearing tonight? Boring black socks from The Gap. I seriously need a lot of new socks, but I have humongous feets at size 10.   Whats your favorite pie, my dear SW's? Um. Pie. Pie is my favorite pie. Chocolate cream, kahlua cream, pumpkin (with lots of spices!), berries of any sort but especially marionberry, cherry, apple, rhubarb, meat (fenberry -- chicken and cranberry, broccoli & cheese, turkey), key lime... BRING ON THE PIE. Ok, I'm not really found of meringue.   PIE VIDEO ---> Want Pie Now! Me Like Pie! Pie is goooood! Mmmmm Pie! Mmmmmm. Pie. pie pie pie pie pie pie pie. PIE!!! When come back bring pie!   Do you like socks? Blankets? Wrist warmers? Arm warmers? Headband? Shawl? Or what kind of knitted thing would you love the most? I personally would love some hand knitted socks or a shawl or a blanket or wrist/arm warmers or... yeah, anything. I knit ... but all of my items go away to other people.   How do you feel about ghost stories? Do you like to tell the old tales around a campfire? Read true accounts on the web way past your bedtime? Do you like to pick up a good anthology of Poe stories on a blustery day? Or is all that too scary for you? I am not very good at telling tales. I have a slight lisp (pierced tongue didn't help that, uh uh.) I'm Aspie, so I tend to talk in a monotone. I can't remember all of the good details or I remember too many and bore people. Plus I'm really shy anyway. I don't like to talk if I can help it. If I'm in a social situation where I have to talk, I *can*, but I tend to overcompensate. But anyway. See, I babble on and on and on... *cough* ahem. I like Poe stories. I like Lovecraft stories. I'm not sure that I've ever found anything that actually "scares" me. Things that bother me: torturing animals. I don't want to read about that or see videos of it. It's too real and it happens too often. I like to LISTEN to spooky stories around the campfire though. Or in a parked car in a really dark area in the middle of nowhere at the dead of night! And I like to jump out and scare people too. Lately I am on the same kick as everyone else -- zombies. I just downloaded the Zombie Survival Guide from Wattpad onto my iphone. But that isn't scary... it's more amusing.   Warehouse 13 Have not seen. The only thing I watch on TV is True Blood. I *could* watch it on Hulu or thewb.com if it's really really good. Convince me!   Coffee or Tea? I like both. I am in both the tea and coffee swaps. For tea: mostly black. But there are some green teas, herbal infusions, etc. that I love love love. I like flavored black and green tea. Tea with lemon. Tea with milk. Tea with honey. (depending on the tea of course.) Not really huge on the red (rooibos) or white teas. Oh, and I loves jasmine tea and black chai. Lately my tea kick has been chocolate raspberry with honey and cream. And Russian Caravan (I'm out! Gasp! I neeeeed more!!) Or at night, the Aveda tea or Sweet Dreams from the Teacup. For coffee: Flavored coffee. Espresso. Lattes. Mochas. French press. Clover. Pretty much everything except drip. Because I don't have one of those.   Olive oil? yes! flavored is good too. Olive oil soap is lovely. I make a lot of cold process olive oil soap.   Lavender? yes! I used to have 11 different kinds of lavender bushes but now I only have one. And it mostly died last winter but I gave it a chocolate coated miracle pill and it mostly revived. But it still needs some time... When it gets going again I'll make lavender wands from the stems and flowers. I love lavender oil, soap, sachets, eye pillows, wands...   Does anyone in here wear a lot of dangly earrings or collect pendants of all kinds?? How about hair clips or pony tail band things? Yes? Have your witch see me. I don't wear anything except studs. And I haven't changed these studs in three or four years. I only take them out to clean them. And I usually only wear my scent lockets, so I am not really needing any pendants. (I could use some new chains.)   What is your favourite historical period? What, I can only have one?? Mine are places AND times... Ancient Egypt and Arthurian (fictional, yeah yeah.) oh! of course! I love reading about Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece too. I love mythology. And I love the Judith Tarr historical fiction stuff.   Did you order anything from the most recent update? Um, yes, pretty much everything since I run decant circles.   i know someone already asked about tea and coffee, but i want to know what other hot beverages everyone likes for fall? Mulled mead. Caramel Apple Cider. Hot drinking chocolate (I am a chocolate snob, I use the kind that has to be mixed with milk and whisked forever. sorry.)   What sorts of odd or regional foods do you crave? I would like to try these fabled Tim Tams. And I had some jars of chiles that I used to get when I lived in Dallas. I would LOVE more chiles. I will update with the brand. They are sweet chiles. In a jar. Edit: I FOUND THEM. Cannon's Sweet Hots. Mild please.   Vampires or Werewolves? Or some other monster? Yes, please.   Any Gamers here? What kind? Board games? RPG? Miniature? MMORPG? I like board games, RPGs, MMORPGs... but I don't have a lot of time to play games so haven't for a while.   Is anyone playing this round of SW into ABJ? No.   favorite kind or take out kinda burger? whats your burger preference? veggie, meat or ???? I haven't tried 5 Guys yet -- my boyfriend and his friend went to the one that opened by our house and said it was NASTY. I try not to do a lot of "take out"... But I have to admit that I love Red Robin Banzai Burgers. And I also love morningstar farms black bean patties and garden burgers of all kinds.   Whats your favorite childhood toy? Does my horse count? I had lots of Breyer horses too. Um... toys. Hrm. My computer? I had an atari 2600.. and then a 400, and an 800, and a commodore 64, TRS-80, and an 8088 pc... (I am a geek, sorry.)   Imagine that you're given a shoebox-sized time capsule, and you are asked to put one item in that box that symbolizes who you are. It may be anything you can imagine, and money is no object, but you are limited to one item, and it must fit within the box. What item do you choose? I don't think there is any one object that could symbolize who I am. There are objects I have an affinity with or that could be metaphors, but they would be really one dimensional portrayals. Sorry. I guess my imagination doesn't stretch far enough. I blame it on the Aspergers.   Are you involved in any long-term, ambitious project? something like decorating your house or saving for a trip to the other end of the world, for example. Sure. I like to call it "Life". And then there is "Career". There is also "Raising Child" and "Domesticating Boyfriend". And of course, "Education". Ok, I am not so funny. Hmm. My most pressing goal is paying off all of my debt and then saving to buy a house again.   If you have a pet, what kind of gifts would be good for them? I'm completely anal about what I'll let my canines have. Mostly because Miss Lela is extremely allergic to many many things. No grains! None! They get beef lung, beef tendons, beef heart, beef liver, all sorts of yummy raw things (I try to stick to fish and beef -- the cool proteins. Hot proteins tend to make her break out.) They get fed a home prepared raw diet. Yes, I cook every day -- for my dogs. Not for us. I don't have time to cook for us. So... the easiest treats to get that they can have are probably dried beef lung or liver. Or the "bully sticks". But if you want to give them toys, I'd love Planet Dog orbee balls (small) or squeaky toys and more squeaky toys.   Would any witches be interested in home-made sewn type crafts? If so, what type? (e.g. tote bags, pillowcases, laptop covers, etc..) Yes! I like pillow cases, knitting bags, imp bags, critters, whatever! (I don't have a laptop and therefore do not need a laptop cover.)   Any other steampunk fans/lovers? Not rabid, but yes.   Interested in locally produced products? Yes!   What's your favorite color? Purple and Black.   Describe your ideal picnic lunch. Where would you go? Who (if anyone) would accompany you? What sort of food would you take? My ideal picnic lunch would be something like in "Emma" although with my friends, not hers, and not wearing really confining dress. And not with the snarkiness making one person sad. (We're all snarky at each other and laugh.) I would arrive on a friesian. I would prefer food that doesn't fall and try to splatter my shirt or pants. Fruit slices (apple and pear!), grapes, blueberries, greens tossed with a little oil and vinager (eaten with your fingers), cheese slices or cubes, rosemary/black pepper/asiago or other flavored crackers, pickles, crusty bread with brie and butter, salami and sausage slices or chunks, cold cuts, hummus (garlic... black bean... all sorts of yummy hummus flavors), olives (black, kalamata, or green stuffed with garlic or other yummy things), pitas, the little medieval cookies that I get at Camlann, sausage hedgehogs, pasties or little hand held meat/fruit pies or piroshky, roasted nuts (almonds, cashews, pecans), petit fours, iced tea, water, or wine. Possibly chocolate truffles and mead or ice wine for dessert. basically nothing that needs further preparation, a plate, or utensils (except the wine, although I supposed everyone could have their own bottle.) Everything you want can be carried on a slice of bread or pita and is mostly for snacking in between playing games with the dogs, people, and horses. (ok, that is more like an all day event, but... if you're going to do something, do it all out.)   Do you like pinup art/images? Not really.   Who are your BPAL forum buddies? You know, people I could conspire with to Witch you! Little Goat and Stariel I actually see in person somewhat frequently as they're both knitters and in Seattle. I've been Natcho'd with the COOLEST Jester Tentacle Bag hand knitted by the fabulous LunaLiquid and would beg on my knees for more things knitted by her or Stariel. Stariel knits socks... she's FAST! And they're awesome!! Coldie might have some ideas too. But really, you could probably conspire with just about any of us to Nacho Witch anyone else.   What are your plans for Halloween? Have you made any yet? Do you have any traditions? I haven't made any plans. Usually we go out to a fetish ball. My male half usually wins whatever costume contest they are having. He is much hotter than I am.   Imagine that you're given a shoebox-sized time capsule, and you are asked to put any number of items in the box that symbolize who you are. The items can be may be anything you can imagine, and money is no object, but they must fit within the box. Which items do you choose? Hm. A copy of Shakespeare's "Much Ado about Nothing" (dvd or book - could be included on the thumb drive I suppose), a small friesian statuette, a small gargoyle, a bottle of bpal (probably snake oil), a skein of malabrigo and a knitting book (either Pretty in Punk, Dominknitrix, or Anticraft), a thumbdrive (with all of my favorite mp3s, audio books, and maybe a recorded message from myself, some of my favorite recipes and knitting patterns, videos of my dogs and of boyfriend and his monster truck), a magnet (espresso! euphoria without the unsightly track marks!), a lavender wand, a chunk of alexandrite, a friendship bracelet, a skull & crossbones air freshener from archie mcphee, a small zen rock garden, an origami crane, and photos of me and: my dogs, ferret, horses, son, boyfriend.   You're in the kitchen at the end of a pay period and groceries are pretty scarce. Do you take the five ingredients you find first and make something fabulous, or do you order take out? The first five ingredients I find are actually what I have to feed to the dogs (they get a home cooked meal) so I would be ordering out. (and by ordering out, I mean I would have to get in the car and go find something to eat. No one delivers to where I live.) Dogs have to eat first.   Do you believe in magic (or magick, if you prefer)? What does it mean to you? Thank you for the ear worm. *eyeroll* Um, sure.   Any rabid sports fans out there? What teams do you root for? No, I pretty much dislike most sports and the frenzies spawned by them. The only kind of sports I like to watch are ones I have participated in, such as horse or dog related sports. Grand Prix Horseshow Jumping & three day eventing, gaming, agility, etc. I don't like horse racing or dog racing. My boyfriend is involved in motorsports so I spend way too much time going to events that he is driving in.   what's your favorite animal? (you can have more than one.) Friesians (horses), Bully Breeds (dogs), Silver ferrets (white or silvery grey with black eyes, not albinos), ravens, dolphins, bats, rats...   If you found the puzzle box from Hellraiser, what would you do with it? ( and would you be able to resist playing with it?) Do I *know* it's the puzzle box from Hellraiser? In that case get it AWAY. Otherwise -- ooh puzzle box!! What's inside??   what's your favorite candy to stock up on at halloween? Vanilla tootsie rolls. I like the caramel apple pops too, but I don't stock up on them per se... although I did buy a couple of bags last year and gave them out with swaps. I like the 100 grand bars too.   What are your phobias? Erm. Nuclear war? I don't especially like being unable to move while having bugs on me. Bugs are ok if I can move and get away from them or take them off of me, but being unable to move and aware that they are on me is nasty.   What is your favourite flower (or plant)? Blue roses (they're really purple/lavender in color, but the term is "blue".) Sterling Silver (yeah yeah, it has genetic issues and bad ratings, but I love the color and fragrance!), Love Potion, Purple Tiger, Royal Amethyst, etc. Anything fragrant and purple, give it here. I'll also take really fragrant and not purple, such as Fragrant Cloud or Fair Bianca (white old english double ruffled rose that smells like myrrh.) I used to have 50+ rose bushes at my previous house - all extremely fragrant.), Lavender (I had 11 types of lavender, sniff), Lilacs, Butterfly Bushes, Chocolate cosmos, mint of all kinds, thyme of all kinds, purple basil, oregano, cilantro, pretty much all herbs, Stargazer or pink oriental lilies (the fragrant kind), large bearded irises (batik is my fav, they smell like grape), dianthus and carnations (love their spicy scent), hyacinth (I can usually smell them across the yard!), scented geraniums (I like the weird scents, like cinnamon, etc. scented geraniums come in all sorts of scents!), any ... pretty much anything that is extremely fragrant in a good way. (I hate daisies -- they smell like dog poop to me. I don't buy non-fragrant rose bushes or other plants.)   An anonymous benefactor gives you $500 (or an equivalent amount of money in your currency of choice) with the following stipulations. You must spend all of it within a week: any money left unspent must be returned. You must spend at least half of the money on yourself. You may not use it to pay off debts or bills of any kind. What do you do with the money? That would partially pay for one of the monthly bpal orders. If I had any left over, I'd probably invest it in vials, bubble mailers, labels, ink, and pipettes. Because I go through a flat of 2k vials in about 8 months.   Duct tape purses and wallets and things are pretty darned cool. Who else thinks so? I use duc[k/t] tape for other things... *cough* so while the boyflame might like a duc[k/t] tape wallet, I don't really want one. Sometime I might make the duc[k/t] tape bullwhip, though. http://skiptomylou.wordpress.com/2008/05/2...-tape-bullwhip/   Are you an avid reader? What's your favorite book/series? I think I answered this in the form I sent in, but YES. I love George R. R. Martin, Robin Hobb, Neal Stephenson, JK Rowling, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Christopher Moore, and many many others. I just re-read the Kushiel series, the Sookie Stackhouse series, American Gods, Anansi Boys, and am currently re-reading Snow Crash. Then I might reread The Diamond Age or continue with the Zombie Survival Guide, haven't decided yet. I downloaded the Zombie Survival Guide and world War Z to Wattpad on my iphone and started the first one, but haven't really gotten into it. Wattpad is the greatest thing ever next to the Library. I have the Kindle App for my iphone too, but I prefer to download the free books from Amazon that I haven't read yet (tons of classics!!!) I've read one Jasper Fforde book and have the rest of them on my wishlist. I've downloaded most of the Naomi Novik books but have only read 1-3 (Temeraire.) I also have most of the Obernewtyn Chronicles but haven't started reading them yet. Same goes for the Chronicles of Elantra. I loved the original DragonLance series as well as the Drizzt Do'Urden books. (Now my son loves them.) I am very sad that Robert Jordan passed away (and didn't finish his Wheel of Time series - waiting for Brandon whats-his-name to finish the last book.) I used to read a lot of L.E. Modesitt, Jr. but haven't started his new Imager series yet. I think I've read everything Terry Goodkind has out (as well as watching Legend of the Seeker, the only exception is the newest book - The Law of Nines) as well as Terry Brooks (except the newest book, A Princess of Landover. But the Landover books weren't my fav.) My Amazon wishlist has a TON of books but if you want to get me anything, please keep in mind that I don't mind getting USED books and that I do prioritize. If the priority is low, I have already read it but it was borrowed from the library or something. If it's medium, I'm kind of "meh" about it. I mostly have it there as a placeholder so I don't forget to look for it at the library. Sadly most of the High or Really High things are either unreleased or expensive.   Any cooks? Could you use anything cooking related? Aprons? Cookbooks? Measuring Cups? Recipes? Herb/Spice containers? Fancy Spices? Dish Towels? Cocktail napkins? Amazing Beaded Pot Holders? Something else? I love to cook, but as I say every round, we have a kitchen the size of a postage stamp. I have a counter that is about 8.5x11". I have a very small fridge that is filled with ingredients to make food for the dogs. I rarely rarely ever cook anymore (except for the dog food.) I sold my house, BF sold his house, and we moved into the MIL basement of BF's father's house when BF's mom died. BF's father is diabetic and smokes, has major heart and breathing issues, blood sugar issues, etc. So we are there to keep an eye on him and help him out with things. I doubt we will move into our place until after BF's dad passes. Which could be next week or could be 20 more years. So... most of my kitchen stuff is packed up in boxes in the shed (along with the majority of my possessions) and I really have no place for kitchen stuff. I have two huge boxes full of spices that I never get to use. I have a ton of cookbooks that I never get to use. I would gladly accept home made treats of any sort, though. The only thing I make in my kitchen on a regular basis (besides dog food) is tea. I could probably squeeze in a scented teapot trivet. And I suppose dish towels and dish clothes. I could use some little tiny cutting boards that are just big enough to cut an apple on.   Who likes coloring books? ... not really, no. Unless it is full of cool horses or celtic knotwork.   Do you have a Good Reads profile? No, I have a Library Thing catalog and profile, and an Amazon wishlist. And Kaboodle. And tons of other ones. Do I really need more profiles/lists?   What was your favouritest job ever, and why? This is a hard one. I really liked working at Microsoft because of the people. Hated the job itself (tech support.) Liked the company. Hated being a temp. I really liked working at Mosaix (maker of unix boxes/digital switches/software that run call centers) because of the people and the job (unix sysadmin) but got offered more money at MCI to come be their personal unix sysadmin. MCI/Worldcom was an awesome job, work and money wise, but it was in Denver so I had to commute home to Seattle on the weekends or whenever I could. And I had to pay rent in Denver and mortage at home in Seattle. And I didn't really know anyone in Denver and no one sat around me at the office. All of the people who used my unix boxes and my two call centers were in St. Louis or Upstate NY, so I had to travel to train them (which I liked. Upstate NY in the fall is purty!) If it had been in Seattle instead of Denver, it would have been my favorite job evah (except for no people in the office, but that was ok, I played a lot of online games from the backbone of the internet, bwahaha.) I have been self employed and enjoyed that (selling PartyLite candles, making my own candles and soap, and selling Virtual items and gold for online games over eBay) but didn't make enough money as I was only motivated enough to sell things when I actually needed to pay bills rather than all the time. I really enjoyed working as a Chandler for Sweet Spirit Candles (it was a fun part time job!) Except the owner was a jerk. I liked the other people that worked there though, and I love being around and making candles. Wicking wasn't my fav though. They went out of business because the new owners didn't know a thing about running one. Current job - I enjoy the company and the people, but I don't like the work itself. I took this job at a major paycut in order to get my foot in the door --- and then the economy took a dump. So while I've been here two years, I'm just now getting to move to another position that is really just more of the same and at the same pay rate. boo hoo. Someday I'll get off the phones again. I hate talking on the phone. I'm used to RUNNING the call centers, not being a call center agent. Bleah. I like the benefits, though. om nom nom, coffee!   Which three albums would you take to your apocalypse bolt hole and how would you power the generator? Albums? I don't have a record player. I would have to take my ipod or computer. I cheat. But right now I would say... Depeche Mode: Playing the Angel, New Order: Substance, and Dead Can Dance: Into the Labyrinth. I would power it probably with dogs and a treadmill. Dogs like to run. I could run on it too.   What GC scent have you been putting off getting since it'll "always be there"? TKO. Serpents with Glittering Eyes and Forky Tongues. Black Opal (beneathglass stole mine.) Antique Lace.   Are you interested in things like home remedies for ailments, cleaning solutions, etc.? Sure. I have a big book of Garlic remedies.   If you could decorate/redecorate any 1 room in your home, what would it be and how would you decorate it? The bathroom or the kitchen. They would become much larger and would get a nice floor that could be mopped instead of having CARPET. Really, wtf -- carpent in the kitchen or bathroom? It's disgusting. I have to put down rugs over the carpet so I can wash them continually since I don't have a carpet cleaner. *shudder* Both would get paint that could be washed instead of this nasty flat paint. The bathroom would get a new shower unit LIKE THIS!!! The kitchen would get more cabinets, counter space, and a dishwasher. And a decent stove. And a larger fridge. I could finally have room for an espresso maker and a toaster.   How do you take your coffee (or tea)? Black or with cream and/or sugar? Depends on the coffee or tea, really. I like Chocolate flavored black tea with cream and honey. I like some black tea with just honey. I like most herbal infusions (except Tazo Passion, that one is TART and requires sweetener!) and flavored green tea with no sweetener or milk. Sometimes I like tea with lemon, so obviously no cream there! I like black tea and london fog lattes. So... for black tea = depends on my mood. I take them sweetened OR sweetened and whitened. Coffee: I like lattes -- so milk and a flavor, usually a thick syrup like caramel or chocolate (or cocoa powder and sugar that I mix up myself, like the scharffenberger. I try to avoid anything with corn syrup.) But if I'm doing french press or a tasting, I'll just have it straight black in a little demitasse. Clover I generally do cream and sugar with.   Do you believe we control our destiny, or does our destiny control us? I'm not really a determinist, no. I'm not sure which philosophical theory I believe in. I think more along the lines of infinite possible universes and they are split each and every time a decision is made.   What one thing that is missing from your life would you like to have above all else? Financial stability? *cough* A friesian? Not having Asperger's syndrome? A PhD? Our own place to live where no one smokes?? Too many, too many. I would probably like to have the ability to be closer to people. I feel like, and have always felt like, there is a huge wall between me and everyone else. No one understands me and I can't understand other people. Would be nice to have a soul mate or best friend that I could laugh with. I need more laughter. I love my boyfriend dearly but sometimes I feel like we don't understand each other well enough.   What's your favorite dessert treat? Ice cream? Cake? Pie? Fudge brownie cake with pie flavored ice cream on top? Hm. Depends on the mood!! I love pumpkin cheesecake, haagen-dazs "hawaiian lehua honey & sweet cream" ice cream, moist chocolate cake (or cupcakes), spice cake, kahlua cream pie, key lime pie, marionberry pie and vanilla ice cream, chocolate mousse, home made chocolate chip cookies, pepperidge farm double chocolate milanos, chocolate truffles (especially cocoa velvet or vosges), salted caramels... and rhubarb crisp! peach cobbler! apple crisp! I'm so not picky.   In your perfect world it is chocolate and...? Not men. Men are hairy and I don't like hair in my chocolate. Unless you wax the guy first and give him a good buffing so no extra skin is peeling off, keep the chocolate off of him. Plus, good chocolate needs to be tempered... so just melting and pouring it on someone would be wrong. WRONG. Now if the guy was just DELIVERING chocolate... that is different. Bring THAT on. My perfect chocolates lately have been with anise, or rose caramel, or salted caramel, or orange caramel, or peanut butter truffle, or scotch truffle, or kahula truffle, or.... um. anything that Cocoa Velvet sells is good. Most of the truffles at Vosges are good (I really want to try the italian selection -- cheese and chocolate! olive oil! vinegar! interesting.)   How do you scent your home Tarts, reed diffusers, BPAL, candles? yes please. I really want an electric tart/oil warmer so I'll probably get that eventually. Right now I have candle powered tart and oil warmers, a reed diffuser, lots of candles (colonial candle of cape cod mostly), etc. And I have lots of bpal room sprays.   Secret Power: Time Stop would be nice. I could handle invisibility or teleportation as well.   For the tea and coffee drinkers: Opinion on tea- and/or coffee-related accessories/etc? I wouldn't mind having some air & light tight containers for tea or coffee beans. I would like a new espresso machine and coffee grinder (ha ha!) -- we are having a sale right now though, so I could get one if that were my priority. I don't have any place to put one at home. *weep* I can always use tea filters (I use the Swiss Gold tea filters.) And I can always use more honey for tea... I go through 12lb buckets like there is no tomorrow.   If I send you whole spices or coffee beans, would you be able to grind them or would you prefer them preground for your convenience? I have a burr grinder and a mortar/pestle and access to many commerical grinders at work. I am probably good on spices since I have two super huge boxes of them and no room to cook. Although I wouldn't turn my nose up at the hard to find medieval spices for when I get together with my friends (at THEIR house, lol) to cook fenberry pye, crustade lombarde, erbowle, and the like. om nom nom.   new question, because I'm learning how to sew - if you do any kind of craft, could you use supplies? What kind? knitting needles, yarn, amazing fabric, pinking shears, cool thimbles or pincushins, jewelery making supplies, beads, etc.? There is a gargoyle pincushion on etsy that has been on my wishlist foreva. I can always use more yarn (see Kaboodle wish list for ideas. No acrylics please.) I'd love to learn how to make chainmaille and do wire wrapping, so books or supplies or both on that would be wonderful. I could use some crochet hooks for amigurumi. I'm learning how to needle felt, so maybe some roving or books (on my amazon wishlist even) on needle felting would be helpful. I'll always accept really cool fabric (bats! gargoyles! unicorns! cute dogs! preferably in blacks & purples rather than black & orange (thinking halloween stuff.) I could always use more fabric (felt or muslin or whatever) to put inside my scent lockets. I like to make critters and would welcome cute embellishments (buttons, button eyes, safety eyes, cool gemstones, beads, fabric, yarn (wool for felting critters - not superwash), etc.) I could always use more little retractable tape measures since I can never find mine!! And I can always use stitch markers (see etsy wishlist) but I really needle some resized for US 11. (most of the etsy sellers are willing to do that if you convo them.)   What's your favorite pain-relief remedy or ritual? right now I'm popping muscle relaxers, vicodin, and prescription strength naprosyn. I wish I had a hot tub. If I could get anyone to do it I would love to have some of my mom's "Thunder Butter" rubbed on my hurty muscles but the boyfriend hates the stuff. *weep* (it's made out of beeswax, menthol, super hot cayenne pepper, wintergreen, and a few other things. Kind of like a natural version of icy hot. It is started when the moon is waxing and is finished on or about the full moon. Or something like that.)   Do sounds make you happy? What ambient noises make you smile? Almost all of my fav music makes me happy. Wind chimes, bird noises (especially ravens/crows), horse noises (blowing, neighing, snorting, tail swishing, galloping, trotting, walking, trumpeting, whateva -- I have a Robert Vavra CD full of music intersposed with horse noises. I practically lived on my horse from age 5-18), (sighing, trilling, low woofing, snoring, sleep yipping. but only MY dogs -- other uncontrollable dog noises from outside of the house irritate me), waterfall noises (I have a few tabletop waterfalls but they're packed away in the shed), I used to have a breaking glass noise on my NeXT machine (mmm black NeXT cubes!), raindrops, wind through the trees, kitties purring and trilling, guinea pigs squeaking and squealing, ratties squeaking, , people laughing...  when you receive your SW packages...do you like receiving things that are individually wrapped inside? or unwrapped? or both? I loved the way that my SuperWitch Coldie wrapped my packages all individually with paper that was obviously MADE FOR ME (purple! iridescent! sparkly!) and in awesome little mesh bags. That was totally awesome for the reveal!!! But I don't mind receiving things unwrapped. So... emphasis on the first, but the latter is ok too. It's not like I'm going to complain...   Of course, we're all going to be grateful no matter what our witches give us, but for the record, what is your anti-present? Tell us something that you think your future witch might give you that you absolutely, unequivocally DO. NOT. WANT. Bar soap (unless you made it!) Dangly earrings. My Lip Stuff lip balm. Anything Gold colored. Also no orange. I'm not real fond of yellow either. Or brown. Don't really need any more hand lotion or body lotion. Nooo Credit card or any other bills (except possibly dollar type bills! ha ha!) NO Dog or cat poop. (Or any other kind of poop, thx!) Empty bpal vials that once contained perfume (empty ones that have never contained perfume are ok!) I do like empty bpal BOTTLES if I don't already have a photo of them (see my flickr account plz.)   what bpal scent have you never tried but always wanted to? what scent have you tried and loved, and haven't been able to get more of and why? never tried... um... some of the panaceas. some that I have tried and loved, skadi. I'll have to think about more when I have my spreadsheet in front of me.   I know we're all scent sensitive here. What are your favorite non-perfume smells? Day in the life stuff? I love the smell of horses, saddle leather and oil, puppy breath, coffee beans, freshly zested orange rind, my boyfriend (I love to burrow into his side of the bed because it smells like him), woodsmoke on a crisp evening, baking goods, apple cider vinegar (and other kinds of vinegar), dill and anything pickled with dill, fresh bread (I drive by a bread factory on my way home every morning), christmas trees, baked apples with cinnamon and cloves, pomanders I make by putting cloves in oranges, beeswax, honey, aveda tea, the "garage smell" our garage has (it reminds me of my grandfather's garage), hay bales, mixed grain that we feed to horses and livestock... I could probably think of more. I'm very scent oriented.   who has a birthday falling in this round? *grumbles about hers starting two days before the round's official start.*   For those of us who like chocolate, do you like anything /in/ your chocolate, like fruit, nuts, or for the more daring among us, chilies? I have tried all of the Vosges bars (bacon, chiles, curry coconut, etc.) and my favorite is the Naga (curry coconut). I actually don't eat a lot of chocolate "Bars" because that is just too much at one time. I prefer truffles and I think I have already answered what kind I like in many of the other questions. But yes, I like stuff in my chocolate. Almonds and pecans if there are nuts. (and there are always nuts around here... *cough*) I eat maybe one truffle every three days, but sometimes I forget about them and go a few weeks without having any and then I feel bad because the truffles are starting to bloom and I must eat them before they go bad, and then I'll have a couple.   Are there any childhood shows/movies/games/books/etc. that still hold a really special place in your heart? Narnia books, Felix Salten books, Walter Farley & Marguerite Henry books (Black Stallion and Misty of Chincoteague), anything with Wesley Dennis illustrations, Disney movies, many many more... Old Yeller, Where the Red Fern Grows, The Yearling, Trumpet of the Swan, A Cricket in Times Square, Island of the Blue Dolphins.... As for games, I loved Clue (board game). And Nethack (pc). And Pitfall (atari 2600). The Wizard and the Princess was the first "text adventure + graphics" game I played (on the Atari 400.) We started playing D&D in 1978 or 79. I loved (and still love) other text adventures such as "Adventure" and the infocom games (Zork, etc.) Most of the games I played were solitary or with my horses since I didn't get along with my brother.   There has been a lot of talk about chocolate, but none about Candy! What is your favorite Candy? What candy do you hate? Every once in a while I get a craving for bottle caps. Or Spree. or Riesen. I would have to say that my favorite candies are probably salted caramels, though. I don't really "hate" any candy but I don't generally eat "hard" candies. Oh, I know, I really really dislike "whoppers". ugh. And anything sour.   Do you have a Blu-Ray player? Only if you count the xbox 360!     Do you have any objections to receiving downloads? Is your internet connection fast enough for you to download large files like music easily? Are there any songs, albums, movies, or TV shows that you can't find/haven't been released that you want? My internet connection is pretty fast. I'd like the rest of Red Dwarf on dvd (I have Season 1, 2, 3, and 4.) And I'd like the "american" Red Dwarf pilot, and the newly released stuff too. I would love to have the Twin Peaks pilot (I have Seasons 1 & 2 on dvd.) I used to work for HMV (His Master's Voice) so I have a ton of records and cds... what I don't have but want, I can generally find and download in a few minutes. So I'm good music wise.   What's something you're really looking forward to in the semi-near future? It was my birthday, but now that is over. (Was Saturday the 12th!) *sigh* I was fairly sad that most of my family did not say anything to me (my mom wrote me e-mail from Yellowstone park, ha) and only three friends said anything. I got more Happy Birthdays in the Switch Witch thread than anywhere else. Yes, feeling sorry for myself now.   What fictional character do you most identify with and why? Eeyore. I'm Aspie. I speak in a monotone. I have major depression. I'm usually somewhat glum (although I try not to show it in person.)   Could you use a 'travel' imp case? How many should it hold? I have some travel imp cases in my favorites list on etsy.   As a witchee, would you prefer to have many little packages sent to you throughout the round with a not-so-big final package or fewer things throughout the round with one huge final package to seal the sweetness? I really like lots of little packages (or a few little packages, or whatever) with one large reveal at the end. The last round was totally awesome up until the end, when my Witch revealed in e-mail and I had no final package -- not that I needed anything else because she spent waaay too much money, but it felt really anticlimatic. I would have rather she held off on at least one of the packages and sent at the end with a reveal.   What is your idea of the perfect evening at home? I like it to be somewhat cool weather so I can have candles, fire, tea, blankies, and snuggling with dogs and boyfriend.   Are you on any social networks (MySpace, Twitter, LJ, Facebook, Bebo, etc)? If so, make with the links! Are you open to new friends? yes, I've already answered the question about lj, twitter, and facebook I think but didn't provide links. facebook: http://www.facebook.com/miss.twilight twitter: http://twitter.com/mstwilighteyes lj: http://miss-twilight.livejournal.com/profile myspace: http://www.myspace.com/twi   IF YOU FRIEND ME, please write me a note and say who you are (switch witch / bpal group) or I'll likely block you.   What kind of socks? black or purple or blue or knitted with self striping black/purple or black/white or whatever. NOT NYLONS. Real socks. Preferably not "thin".   How often do you update your wishlist? Whenever I see something I NEED want or when I buy something.   May I help you fill out your costuming wardrobe (assuming you costume)? Are there articles you are seeking to enhance your a) Halloween costume, Renfest attire, c) Cosplay, d) Steampunk accouterment? meh. I don't know what I'm going to be for Halloween. I could use a cool renfest overdress, corset, and chemise but those are spendy.   Who are your favorite artists/illustrators/art periods? Dunno. I like certain work by Van Gogh (Starry Night, Starry Night over the Rhone, Cafe Terrace at Night, etc.) I like certain work by Kim Reasor (the coca cola sign in the snow on the bottom of archive 2.) I have a few pieces of art by Wendi Dunlap (the ones on this page that say "Collection of S. Walker"). I love Jill Thompson's artwork with the young Endless (Sandman / Neil Gaiman.) And many others but have to save post now and go home from work.   What's your stance on cranberries? I take cranberry PILLS so I don't have to deal with the nastiness of cranberry JUICE. I don't drink juice with added sugar or corn syrup. Pure cranberry juice is the NASTY. But I like cranberries that are dried (especially covered in chocolate), and I love them cooked with savory dishes. I make something called "Cranberry Chicken" which is fabulous, and of COURSE "Fenberry Pye" (fenberries being cranberries) that has chicken and medieval spices. om nom nom! Cranberry Bliss Bars from Starbucks (yes, I have the recipe!), I even like jellied cranberry in the can.   Do you mind receiving used (in good condition, of course) CDs or DVDs? Nope, I don't mind. Bring 'em on!   Do you have a crush on anyone famous? Do you have a crush on any literary characters? Would you like fanfiction or fan art based on this/these people? Does my boyfriend count? He's not really "famous" but he is kind of a local celebrity to a very small niche.... (Monster Truck driver.) Sure, I'd like funny fan art based on my boyfriend. bwahaha. Even fan fiction. He'd get a kick out of some kind of bdsm fiction in which he is the sub/bottom. Crush on literary characters? hmm. I guess I don't get crushes on literary characters. Am I weird?   You're at home, or out, and you want a snack. Something that will get you through to the next meal, or through to the end of school or what ever. What do you grab? Chips and salsa usually. But it could be cheese and crackers. Or peanut butter and crakers. Or a protein bar. Or olives. Or dried fruit. Or landjaeger/wieners from Bavarian Meats. Or all of the above.   Do you have a favorite bpal bottle art? Hmmm I love The Lady on the Grey. I'm a horse fanatic. I really like Black Butterfly Moon too. And many many others.   Are there any decants from the Halloweenies, Literary Vampires, Gris Grimly, or Hellboy that you would be interested in receiving? Nope, I run decant circles so I have waaaay too many decants. Unless something is specifically on my wishlist as a decant (to fill a bottle or to test), I'm probably good.   For the crafty people out there: would you prefer something crafted or crafting supplies? Both!! I love to get things crafted by other people!! But I can always use yarn, scissors, stitch markers, measuring tape, or whatnot.   Can you use pill boxes, a hard ID case, coin purse, etc? I have a hard ID case slash imp box on my Etsy favorites. I don't really need any pill boxes or a coin purse, but if they're ultra cool and ME, I'm sure I can find a use for them doing duty as something else.   Any songs you are desperately into at the moment? I've been listening to the new Depeche Mode album a lot (Sounds of the Universe.) And Garbage (the first album.)   What's autumn like in your neck of the woods? What do you love and/or hate about it? It's lovely and cool and rainy. The leaves have a good color change mixed in with the evergreens. I don't like that it usually rains on Halloween night. Or when the piles of leaves get too sodden to kick or leap about in.   What's your favorite product(s) at Trader Joe's? probably the chocolate covered candy cane joes. Not the regular candy cane joes -- the chocolate COVERED ones. om nom nom.   If you're caught in front of the tv, what are you watching? I usually only watch movies or True Blood. Sometimes Cash Cab.   Any Amy Brown art fans? I like her stuff that has horses on it! And stripey stockings! But I don't really consider myself a huge fan and I don't collect her art.   How do you feel about Halloween music? (mix CDs, what have you)? meh. I'm really pretty picky about my music and I only listen to it in the car.   Who else is reeeeeally looking forward to Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland? *jumps up and down waving her arms*   Is there a store that you love which does not have a location near you (but that has a physical presence somewhere, not just online? Why do you love it so much? There is a clothing store in Vancouver BC where the owner is also the designer. She makes a lot of club and renaissance-type clothing and dresses. She has her sewing machines there at the store and will alter things ON THE SPOT for you. I LOVE THAT STORE.   Lolcats....yeah or nay? yay! When I talk with my friend Brandioch we generally end up im'ing back and forth in lolcat. or texting. or even talking that way.   If your witch were to either write something for you or put together a collection of ghost stories, would you rather have it in writing, recorded as an oral telling, or both? I'm not especially into ghost stories, so however it was done would be fine.   If you had the funds to comission an original painting for yourself, what would it be of? What would it be like- colors, size, style? I like blues, purples, silvers, blacks -- I would probably get something of my dogs. Or a friesian. or a starry sky and mountains / forest / lake / castle with dogs in foreground or something. <shrug>   Does anyone have any symbols they consider to be personally significant or talismanic? Well, I have symbols I am attracted to. The wedjat (or Eye of Horus), the ankh, epona symbols (especially the horse triskele celtic knot), raven triskele... I have a white weasel rampant that I use on my soap labels (Iceweasel!), ummm I think I have more but I can't seem to think right now.   Are there any Gods, Goddess, or other mythological figures of whom you're particularly fond? Epona of course. Eris and Loki, I have a fondness for tricksters (and ferrets.)   Super villain or vigilante? Which would you like to be? Which would you like to receive? Vigilante. V, for example. If I'm getting a real live one though, I'd prefer he not have burns all over his body so maybe not V.   What mythical or fantastic race of creatures (dragons, unicorns, griffins, elves, dwarves, faeries, etc.) do you most identify with, and why? Unicorns (I have a huge collection), gargoyles and grotesques. Unicorns have always just seemed sorrowful and solitary to me. Same with gargoyles and groteques.   How do you feel about Dia de los Muertos? Are you interested in sugar skulls? Catrina (or other) skeleton figurines? Meh, really. I could go either way, but I don't celebrate this or really know much about it and I wouldn't buy anything for myself.   Do you have a favorite poem or poet? Yes, but once again, I can't think of them.   What is your favorite creepy folk story or legend? Wow, I just have zero brain power and can't think of any creepy folk stories that I would consider a "favorite".   Who is musically inclined? What instruments (voice counts) do you play? Would you enjoy sheet music? I used to sing and play violin and flute. No longer. No sheet music for me. I started guitar a while back but then my son wanted to learn it, so I gave him my guitar. Would someday like to learn guitar and piano but don't see that happening. Closest I get right now is Guitar Hero on the Wii.   Favorite musicals? I don't see a lot of musicals. Most recently in the theatre I saw the musical dance version of Edward Scissorhands. I would LIKE to see Wicked. Dixiehellcat is a sweetie and sent me Spamalot. Moviewise I really enjoy things like the new Moulin Rouge (I LOVE Ewan McGregor in this movie), Sweeney Todd, Repo the Genetic Opera, Nightmare before Christmas, etc.   Which of the seven deadly sins is most likely to be your undoing? Probably Sloth. Or Lust. Maybe Greed. Heck, I think all of them might take a hand.   Anyone want a nickname and embroidered headband from PandaBite? No thanks!   I have seen a lot of yankee candles haters..... personally i like yankee candle (some of them, anyway). do you or don't you, and if not, what candles do you like? this assumes you like candles. otherwise, what specific home fragrance do you use? Tativa was my coffee swap witch and sent a couple of the special halloween scent that is black (patchouli?) -- it's SUMMER YUMMY!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE. I really like the black one that smells like Drakkar too. Midsummer Night's Dream?   Would a "gift" donation to one of the organizations/causes you support be a great gift, or a lame gift? Would be spectacular!!! My last Witch donated to Bad Rap in my name. There are some more local Pit Bull groups in Seattle that could use some donations, though. Please don't donate to PETA in my name. PETA has a vendetta against Pit Bulls. We hateses PETA.   Are you into 80s movies (like i am ) if so, which are your favorites and who are your favorite characters? Sure! I loved John Hughes films. I have Breakfast Club, Some Kind of Wonderful, 16 Candles, Better off Dead, and a few others. I would like Pretty in Pink and whatever else I don't have. I'd love the Monty Python films on dvd or blu ray.   Do you like Villainess soaps? What are your favorite scents? I like the Whipped and the Smack. The Smooches I am not sure about, I think I like the Arcana scrubs better. I don't want any bar soap of any kind. Favorite scents? I have some birth rite burn and it is ok. I have or have had whipped in jai mahal, decadence, autumn gala (gone), smashing (gone), and a few others. I think I have the ones I'm interested in trying on my SW Help page so I won't go into it again here.   Do you mind artificial colors in your food? I try to avoid things like food color, msg, corn syrup, etc. but sometimes it can't be avoided so while I WILL consume it on occasion, I'd rather not have it dumped into my food.   Who wants hair pretties?(headbands, barrettes, pony-o's, scrunchies, bobby pins, hair clips, etc) I am thinking of chopping all of my hair off again. But if I don't do that, then I do use things like the scunci headbands with teeth to keep my hair out of my face.   I am on an origami crane kick recently, so I wonder if anyone will be interested in origami crane earrings, origami crane in a glass vial (~1.2cm wide) phone charm/pendant or just a container filled with cranes of different sizes. My desk is already covered in cranes as that is one of the origami that I can make with my eyes shut. (I used to make origami for about 2 hours every day, going through my books and picking out new ones and then practicing all the base folds and stuff. But that was about 10 years ago. I can only remember the crane. My origami paper and books are in storage, I have no room for that sort of thing right now.)   How do you feel about clothing/accessories made from animals? Anti-fur, leather, shells, etc.? Does even faux wig you out? I wear leather. I'll wear fur if it's cold enough. (Seattle is not cold enough.) I don't really like fur as a fashion statement, though. I don't really like shells either.   How do you deal with stress? What's your favorite way to unwind? I usually deal with stress by drinking tea, reading, ignoring everything I possibly can, and sleeping a lot. I have been sleeping almost 24x7 recently because I am very stressed out about bills.   You're given the opportunity to apprentice at any trade (or craft) of your choosing for the period of one year. Your mentor may be any currently living person. Which field of study would you choose, and who would be your mentor? If money were no object and the "Trade" or "craft" was something fun to do and not a career that I would be locked into, it would probably be aromatherapy and perfume/soap/candle crafting (of which I already do some) and the other would be horse training/riding/breeding, specifically friesians, lusitanos, or andalusians and dressage. I don't have any particular mentors in mind. I'd also like to do yoga and some martial arts. If I could, I'd have Michelle Yeoh or Jackie Chan. Or maybe Chuck Norris.   Do you wear lip gloss/lip balm? If so, what flavors/scents? Yes, I always have lip balm on me. But I HATE HATE HATE lip balm that is applied with a finger or that is too slick, such as that web company that sells nothing but lip balm. what are they called? "my lip stuff", yes, that's it. DON'T send me any of their lip balm unless you don't mind if I give it away immediately. My favorite is on my kaboodle page along with the flavors that I like. The Better Botanicals "ayurvedic lip balm" in cardamom or rose-mint. I also like honey flavored... vanilla... no chocolate, please. I have been wanting to try the Haunt lip lust (and many other Haunt products.) I have some of the Bunny Butt lip balm in honey and it is fabulous.   What is one thing you constantly keep with you that you constantly loose? Lately, my temper. Or my mind. Over the years it has been my sunglasses but since I've had to start paying $150-200 for each pair suddenly I don't break or lose them as much.   What are your favorite fruits? Honey Crisp apples, nectarines, plums, honey tangerines, strawberries, melon (honey dew, water melon, cantaloupe), mangos..   If Beth made a perfume called "switch witch" what notes would be in it? I think that it would be different for each season and there would have to be a whole section called Switch Witch with different categories. There would be Ninja Witch and Nacho Witch for starters... different ones for different types of Witches and Witchees. Halloweenie/Fall round would of course be the scents of the season, depending on what you celebrate. If you're not a Halloween Witch/ee, your scent might be more of the falling leaves, tang of ice in the air, wood smoke, crisp autumn apples, and the like. If you are a Halloweenie, maybe mix in some chocolate, candy, or caramel?   What is your favorite cookie type? The ones that are cookies. bwahaha. If I'm BUYING cookies, probably the pepperidge farm double chocolate milanos. If I'm MAKING cookies, I would say snicker doodles, peanut butter, sugar (with lemon) and buttercream frosting, oatmeal raisin, and the best -- chocolate chip. I really love spritz cookies too. almond or rum flavored. or mint.   Do you drink alcohol? Wine, beer or liquor? What is your favorite wine/beer/mixed drink? yes. I prefer girly drink drunk. usually I get a lemon drop because those are easy. favorite shot is buttery nipple... or china white.. or purple hooter... or chocolate cake... my favorite wines are either tawny port (at LEAST 20 years) or ice wine. I can sometimes stomach "beer" if it's guiness, terminator stout, or ruby ale. But usually I would rather have water or ice tea than drink beer. And I love mead -- but it has to be damn fine mead. Chaucer's is an acceptable brand.   Do you like to find out there's a package on the way or to receive a tracking number to stalk, or do you prefer surprise packages? I like to stalk them so they don't sit in the mailbox and rot. I've had chocolates melt into little puddles because I didn't know they were coming... and the upstairs occupant (Rog's dad) is mostly disabled and has a hard time getting out to the mailbox. I work nights, so I don't usually get up until 7 or 8pm, so that is when I get the mail.   If I were your witch, and I wanted to make you a spell or mojo bag, would you be into that? And, if you were, would you want it for something like love, prosperity or luck? Or would you want it for a certain element? Or would you want it for something more personal- and what might that be? I have no idea how to use spell or mojo bags, so probably not.   Would you object to annonomous postcards (real ones) from your witch before the big reveal??? I love postcards!! Or any mail!!   Do you collect new/used stamps? Will you like to get stamps on your mails? I love getting interesting stamps on my mail. I just purchased two sheets of the Simpsons stamps, even though I didn't really need any more stamps. Just because they are fun! I love fun stamps! I do cut or soak off stamps and put them in my "stamp collecting" drawer. Which hasn't been gone through for years. and years. and years.   For you tea drinkers, are you partial to tea bags or loose tea? Loose tea is usually much higher quality, so that is what I purchase. But tea bags are ok too. I could really use some Russian Caravan. And if you have a tea store with Chocolate Rose or Chocolate Raspberry... feel free to send some my way!!   are there any foreign food products that you'd love to get or to try? I have never tried these fabled Tim Tams or Humbugs.   Have you ever considered paper bead jewelry? I really don't wear a lot of jewelry. I do like rose bead jewelry... mostly because you can scent it.   Cake or death? Is it the Death of Rats? Terry Pratchett's Death? Neil Gaiman's Death? No? Then cake.   The New update is next week.....

I love the idea of steampunk so so much and I even admire the style a lot, but I can't get into actually wearing the style for some reason. I'm not sure why, maybe for the same reasons Salamandrina has? Describe your ideal picnic lunch. Where would you go? Who (if anyone, and yes there can be multiple people) would accompany you? What sort of food would you take? And, of course, if a picnic lunch sounds like a horrible idea, feel free to say so! Yes! lots of different tea sandwiches (yes they have to be tea sandwiches, the cute tiny ones, lol) in egg salad, turkey, chicken salad etc, cheese and crackers and some great red wine. And I would go with either just my boyfriend, or invite someof my closest friends and dress up all 50's style Any Gamers here? What kind? Board games? RPG? Miniature? MMORPG? YES! I play Dungeons and Dragons with my boyfriend and brother every week. I used to play Magic a LOT, Diablo II, WoW and other RPG's like Pendragon, Game of Thrones etc. I now only really play Dominion (love!) and Game of Thrones board game when Mr. Ancilla forces me (I'm not fond of it) and D&D. What is your favorite Halloween icon? black kitties and bats!! Imagine that you're given a shoebox-sized time capsule, and you are asked to put any number of items in the box that symbolize who you are. The items can be may be anything you can imagine, and money is no object, but they must fit within the box. Which items do you choose?this is hard! probably one of my morning pages journals (see the Artist's Way books), my medicine bag filled with mountain lion fur, the large garnet I used to have that was in the shape of a lioness head (I lost it!! ) and my amber heart locket that my boyfriend gave me for christmas one year. Are you involved in any long-term, ambitious project? something like decorating your house or saving for a trip to the other end of the world, for example. writing. and writing a lot. I've been trying not to eat so much dessert but if I had to pick my favorite dessert regardless of dieting, it would be cheesecake (specifically the Cheesecake Factory's Godiva cheesecake...) and for ice cream my favorite has always been Peppermint Stick. Do you believe we control our destiny, or does our destiny control us? I believe that our spirits choose a particular lesson, theme so to speak before we even start our lives, and even though we have complete free will we have a longing to do things that would help us to learn that lesson. And if we don't learn that lesson then we just try to learn it in other life/lives. What one thing that is missing from your life would you like to have above all else? a car. after I get one I can concentrate on the big one. Writing and figuring out my career. What was your favouritest job ever, and why? Probably working in the Barnes and Noble cafe as a barista. It wasn't the best job, but I got to work with my brother and some awesome people so that in itself made it great. Which three albums would you take to your apocalypse bolt hole and how would you power the generator? Honestly I don't think I'd take anything with me because I am such an eclectic music freak that it would drive me insane to listen to the same three albums over and over. If anything I'd bring a ton of classical music. or something. What GC scent have you been putting off getting since it'll "always be there"? Bewitched!!!!! (also there are a lot of GC bottles on my wishlist!) Are you interested in things like home remedies for ailments, cleaning solutions, etc.? Yes definitely! Any cooks? Could you use anything cooking related? Aprons? Cookbooks? Measuring Cups? Recipes? Herb/Spice containers? Fancy Spices? Dish Towels? Cocktail napkins? Amazing Beaded Pot Holders? I lost my awesome half apron when I moved and I am still in mourning! these are cool http://www.jessiesteele.com/catalog.php Are you an avid reader? What's your favorite book/series? I have really only had time for the books I have to read for all my English and History classes this semester. Though check out my amazon wishlist! What's your favorite candy to stock up on at Halloween? Candy Corn! (and those pumpkins too!) that's really it I think, everything else I can get year round (plus if I restrict myself to just that, it saves the Halloween candy binges that can sometimes happen) What are your phobias?mostly bugs but I seem to be slightly better about them now than I was. I like to challenge my fears so I like to think I am not afraid of anything. I do think I may have slight OCD since I am constantly terrified that I will get into a car accident, see someone or a child even get hit by a car, or a dog or something. What is your favourite flower (or plant)? Lilies (any kind really) oddly though I'm not crazy about the note in perfume, I just think they are so pretty. Duct tape purses and wallets and things are pretty darned cool. Who else thinks so? meh they're cool in concept but I'd rather get something nice and classic that will last. An anonymous benefactor gives you $500 (or an equivalent amount of money in your currency of choice) with the following stipulations. You must spend all of it within a week: any money left unspent must be returned. You must spend at least half of the money on yourself. You may not use it to pay off debts or bills of any kind. What do you do with the money? wow, um. I'd probably buy some BPAL that I've been wanting for forever, also some TALs. Buy decants of every single LE I've ever wanted to try. I'd probably stock up on non perishable food to save money later, Then I'd buy some much needed new clothes. If I had any left over I'd spend it all on my boyfriend or my family or something. Who likes coloring books? I had a Little Mermaid coloring book a few years ago when my roomate and I had a itch to color, lol. But I probably wouldn't want one now. Do you have a Good Reads profile? If so, make with the link! If you don't have one, go make one! I'll think about it. I'm signed up for so many other things atm that I never even use! You're in the kitchen at the end of a pay period and groceries are pretty scarce. Do you take the five ingredients you find first and make something fabulous, or do you order take out? definitely look for stuff to make something from scratch. I can't afford to eat out that much. that $25 bucks I could spend on takeout is about a weeks worth of dinner from scratch at the grocery store! If you could decorate/redecorate any 1 room in your home, what would it be and how would you decorate it? well I live at my parents house and their basement is ATROCIOUS. Like so so terrible. If I had no limit money wise I would totally refurbish their basement for them so they could have more room to do stuff as their house is so tiny. or maybe the bathroom. Any rabid sports fans out there? What teams do you root for? nope. I'm a Red Sox fan simply because my grandpa's were but that's about it. I'm not a sports person at all. What's your favorite animal? (You can have more than one.) Mountain Lion! though I really do love all animals, any kind of kitty just resonates with me, especially big ones. This is how the world ends... zombie apocalypse, robot uprising, alien invasion, return of the elder gods... which doomsday scenario do you prefer (or make your own!)? meh. I may be the minority but I'm kind of tired of the whole zombie thing. Yeah the older movies are cool but its way overdone. I'm just the kind of person that really appreciate originality and get bored with ongoing themes. Robots might be cool though. Doomsday scenarios really bore me as well, I'm more into Science Fiction and Fantasy ideas that have nothing to do with planet Earth lol. I did however love Wall-E though because of the way Earth and mankind was portrayed way way in the future. In the year 2525... if man is still alive... what sort of future do you imagine? (apologies to anyone who gets that song stuck in their head!) I really have no idea. I don't think we can even predict that far into the future honestly. I hope we've been able to advance farther into space at least by then. Do you believe in magic (or magick, if you prefer)? What does it mean to you? I do believe in it, though I'm not sure I am capable of understanding it or practicing it. I have tried in the past and I just can't get it. Maybe I just haven't had it explained in a way I can understand it? I understand and believe in the Law of Attraction and focusing and visualizing things you want in your life, if that is considered magick then I guess I understand magic. If you found the puzzle box from Hellraiser, what would you do with it? ( and would you be able to resist playing with it? ) oh god. good question. I think I would like... bury it like 70 feet underground or something. Or maybe throw it into an abandoned quarry.

And, of course, if a picnic lunch sounds like a horrible idea, feel free to say so! My hubby and I, at our favorite autumnal picnic spot by the lake in Princeton (where we used to live), watching the Princeton crew team row by. We'd be eating strawberries, New Jersey sweet corn on the cob, fried chicken made by my deceased grandmother, and champagne, with lots of chocolate cordials for dessert. Oh yes, and there would be no ants. Or bees. And after the food, the making out.   Do you like pin up art/images? I think they are lovely, but would not include them in my decorating scheme.     Steampunk? Love it.   BPAL forum buddies? Wow, I've bought from a lot of decant circles, but no one I converse regularly with (although I love you all)(but not in a creepy stalker way)(much).   What are your plans for Halloween? Have you made any yet? Do you have any traditions? Our tradition is to have the scariest house on the block. For the last several years, we've had a real skeleton in a monk's robe, staring out of our spiral staircase full-length window, scarey scream/howls/laughter/storm CD blasting through outdoor speakers, and eeiry (sp) outdoor lighting.   Once to the door (which creaks year round), you are greeted by a the sound of scarey organ music, smoke from the fog machine, and a witch (guess who) and told you must come into the conservatory to get your candy. I usher them forward to my piano studio, which is covered by spiderwebs, and my dh, dressed as a monk, is playing (very loudly) along with the organ music - the candy bowl is on the bench beside him.   Then just as you're getting comfortable, a projector beams a spooky face up above the fireplace, which proclaims some lame/scarey pronoucement like "They're coming! You must get out now! RUN!!" We get lots of very frightened children, and tons of freaked out teens (some of whom come back just for kicks).   This year, though, my dh has a new church job, and they have a freakin Harvest Party ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT - so we'll probably be required to help with that (hmmmm is there a piano there? A projector?)   Day4 what are your phobias? Stitches, large-weave cloth (like burlap), ace bandages. I know, weird. That new movie coming out, "9", a stop action flick of little handmade critters in a Tim Burtonesque world - won't be able to watch it. Too many stitches and burlaps. Skives me out, man.   what is your favorite flower (or plant)? Lilacs, Gardenias, Hydrangeas.   An anonymous benefactor gives you $500 (or an equivalent amount of money in your currency of choice) with the following stipulations. What do you do with the money? CAN'T USE IT FOR BILLS? Then is MUST be for BPAL! I'd splurge on some of the Salons and Gaimans I've been lusting after! Cocktail napkins? Amazing Beaded Pot Holders? (like from our very own Pottersville! ) Something else?Yeah, what I need IS a cook, to come live here with us and make edible foodstuff. March Hare.   Day 6

SW Questions & Answers Valentine's Round

What is everyone's take on Valentine's Day? My family celebrated. Mom always got us chocolates or something little like that. She and Dad exchanged gifts (small ones) too. But in my own relationships I never really celebrated. That sounds weird right? I'll still call my family and wish them a Happy Valentines Day, but my husband and I will celebrate an anti-Valentines Day at the house and eat pizza and watch horror movies. I can't articulate it very well, but I think I have a hang up about forced holidays? I don't know. UGH, my brain's not working tonight.   Do you like traditional Valentine's Day colors (red, pink, white, more?) ? Hrmmm... I was about to say no, but I realize I wear alot of white, decorate a lot with dark red, and I actually secretly like pink. However, if that actually gets out it may ruin me.   A Favorite love poem? Can't say as I have one, but those quotes bonny came up with upthread were just stunning. I'll have to look that guy up.   What's everyone's favorite semi-obscure (or underappreciated!) animal? Capybara   What is your favorite sign that spring is coming? Spring flowers blooming!   Knit Things? Yes please!! I love all things knit and I tend to run cold so all manner of things knitted are awesome for me!!!   For those of you with pets, would you like pet things? Toys, treats, etc? We have 3 cats, they love those little plastic springs and knit toys with catnip. Unfortunately we can't give them much in the way of treats since they've all had trouble with crystals or other renal problems and we have to really be careful what we feed them!!   Favorite Love Story: Ooooh, this is a really good question. I can't think of one that really resonates with me, but I'll come back to it if my Witch needs me to answer.   Would anyone like receiving naughty/sexy things? Hrmmm... erotica maybe, but no toys or anything.   Who on the thread likes attending Ren Faires, SciFi/Comic Cons & the like? And do you dress up for them? I've never been to anything like that.   Do you need any accessories for your phone, computer, mp3 player, etc.? I just got a Dell Studio 1555 and I don't have a sleeve or case or anything for it. I also have an iPod touch that is currently nekkid.   Gently Used CDs/DVDs? Love it!   First five songs on the "Top 25 Most Played" list on iPod - I'm listing the full 25 Jim Croce - You Don't Mess Around With Jim Ray Lamontagne - Meg White Pierces - Boy in a Rock and Roll Band Sia - Academia Kings of Leon - My Party Tegan & Sarah - Where Does the Good Go? (I know, I'm a big weirdy.) But I like licorice. I also have developed a recent obsession with violet candies and lavender candies. Which apparently are really hard to find here!   WoW No.   Plush Microbes? I find them cute, but I'm not dying to own one.   Mardi Gras? Well, I like Mardi Gras. I like beads, and shiny things, and the overall celebratory vibe. I LOVE masks and masquerades!   Homemade Sewn Stuff? Any fabrics to avoid? As someone who is notoriously anti-craft, I am loving all things crafted - by other people who aren't me. So that's a yeah!!! As for fabrics, I'm pretty easy. I'm allergic to fabric softener though.   kitchen-related gadgetry? Hrrrm, sure. I'm pretty well set with peelers, and garlic presses and the like, but someone mentioned a little finger scrubber for veggies? That'd be cool!   Would you like new nail polish? Sure! I like fun colours, but no orange please. I'm also coveting some of the Trading Post polishes so you can get an idea of the colours I like there. And sparkly stuff. I love me some shiny sparkly things   Do you like incense and/or scented candles, and are you able to burn them in your home? If so, what kinds of scents do you like? I tend to scent my home with BPAL using imps and a lightbulb warmer. I have 3 cats so open flame and smoke is not a good idea!   Boxes? For Bpal (bottles and/or imps) or otherwise Yes please!! I definitely could always use more storage!   Would you use a natural sea sponge? Sure!   Bacon chocolate? I cannot imagine this would taste good. Although I love bacon and I love chocolate... so?   Coffee, hot chocolate, or tea? Coffee, tea and then hot chocolate, in order of preference. I like cooking, it's just hard to decide what to make some days!   posters, pictures, art? YES! I love vintage pieces and old play posters especially.   Would you like soaps? Especially from Paintbox? And ESPECIALLY the Valentines Special Edition Soaps?? Yes please. Dark Heart looks especially awesome.   New question--I'm calling this "could never happen in a million years": Your Witch is perusing the wares at a local yard sale. S/he looks down and sees [insert impossibly rare item that you've always wanted but could never afford] with a $5-10 sticker on it. Sheepishly s/he takes it to the guy behind the folding table. "Do you know what this is?" s/he inquires. The gentleman states that it belonged to his mother/sister/grandmother/Great Aunt Beulah and he thinks it's for, like, hair or something. With a trembling hand, s/hes pays the man and heads home with the inconceivable riches. So, what is this unobtainable miracle your Witch found? This is an awesome question! I'm taking an aromatherapy course currently so I'd have to say, Arctander's Perfume and Flavor Materials of Natural Origin. I have been lusting after this for years.   What about UNTOUCHED make-up samples or any other type of girly-sample thing? I don't wear much makeup ever so not for me.   Salted caramels? No thanks!   Imagine that someone hands you their wallet and sends you into a really good bakery. They have everything, from breads to brownies, cookies to croissants, anything you could imagine, and you're allowed to pick out five things for yourself. What do you pick? Rosemary Garlic Bread Blueberry Scones Chocolate croissants Honestly, that's all I would need to be a happy camper.   Sockdreams? Good GODS yes!   Do you like alcoholic beverages? If so, what is your preference (beer, wine, liquor...)? Not much into alcohol these days. Wines always but I don't think you could ship those across borders.   Steampunk? No thanks.   Would you like or accept an energetically-charged item or gift? Something that had power poured into it? If so, do you have a particular purpose that you'd prefer? (Love, protection, money, etc.) Sure. My husband and I are trying to move to be closer to our families, but we need jobs before we can do so. Anything like that would be greatly appreciated.   Do you have any significant upcoming events in your life you'd like something for? A child/yourself graduating from high school/college? Are you buying a new home or car soon? Moving in with someone/getting married? Taking a new job? Moving to a new part of the country/world? I think we're set.   Ooooh! BPAL's beloved alicia_stardust is having a contest! If you're my Witchee, would you like a chance to win these earrings? Sure!   How are we feeling about burlesque? Indifferent.   Is there anything you're lusting after in the Villainess update? Not particularly.   I custom mix nail polish, a process called 'frankening'. If you were my witch, would you enjoy a custom 'franken', based on whatever colors/theme you chose? Sure, that sounds awesome.   Since everyone is spending the same amount of money on this swap, would you be interested in seeing the cost breakdown of each item in your package? If my witch wants to share, sure, but I don't need to know.   Do you like guessing who your witch is, or would you prefer to know? Do you mind knowing? I don't mind knowing but I'd rather be surprised!   If it's going to be obvious who your witch is, would you rather she played the ninja and sent one big box at the end, or smaller packages along the way? Whatever's easiest for her. I doubt I would recognize an address, regardless if I've swapped with her before.   What color are your eyes? Hazel/greenish   If you had to choose a color for a nightie to sleep in what color would it be? Any colour.   Are you opposed to vegan baked goods? Or baked goods in general? Um, pandas, bears, cats etc   Is there anything you've had to give up that you really miss or want back? Maybe something a witch could help out with? Not really. I tend to be quite a minimalist. I purge our house about twice a year really. I'm we're not using it in a 6 month period (or 1 year for seasonal things) then it's gone. We don't have a lot of storage in our house (we live in a century cottage with no closets) so everything is OUT. Which means that if it's not useful or productive in some way, it's really just taking up space.   If you were a student at Hogwarts, what house would you be in? Honestly, I'd have to cop to Slytherin. I get the job done.   I'm a space junky. Love anything galaxy, space, star, etc related. I'm even getting a milky way tattoo one day. And I am a total Star Trek geek. Anyone else? Hmmm, not really. I took astronomy in university for a couple of semesters and just couldn't get into it. I've never seen any of the Star Wars movies (ok, don't trout me witch, my husband mocks me enough as it is!), and my dad was a HUGE TNG fan so it was always on at our house, but I never got into it. The new movie however, was LOVE.   (I don't believe that this is actually a question, I think there was discussion about it and then SultryWolf randomly bolded it and people started answering it so I'll put it here for reference but I just can't get behind this question) Severed fingers? No.   If you like tea, what are your favorite kinds? Fruity, sweet, chai, plain, black, green, red, white? I love all types of tea. I prefer loose for home and bagged for work. He's an extremely talented man, and deserves credit for what he does.   I love to decoupage/collage boxes and notebooks. If you were my witchee, would you like one? What colors/themes would you want it to have? Find cute pictures--inspire me (and other crafty witches)! I would love that! I have a fascination for anything 20's or 30's inspired.   These are a few of my favourite things: ...? The coffee in bed my husband brings me to wake me up on the weekends, curling up with a good book on a rainy day, tea with a splash of milk and honey, fuzzy blankets, bundling, smelling good, having things smell good around me, drinking good wine and eating good food, leisurely meals, seeing new places, being still, my cat's purr, laughing until my stomach hurts, the made up language my husband and I use.   Are you following the Olympics? What's your favorite sport to watch? Would you be interested in merch? No. And let me explain. Living in Canada, we have been inundated with Olympic propaganda for the past 2 years. I am tired of the &%$*#@ Olympics. I'm all for patriotism and what not, but this is effing ridiculous.

Fall SW Q&A

Click here for Summer Q&As   What about handbags/totes/clutches?? I have a total love for handbags and totes.   What are your thoughts on Incense? I'm kind of meh about it. I'm not a fan of most types, and the only incense I've ever liked was given to me by a Chinese coworker when she left the country to return home. And it is lasting me a long time.   Are there any particular movies you want on DVD? I can't think of anything in particular that I would want.   What about stickers?? I love stickers. Stickers are fun!   Do you just need anything from the Possets update? I feel about Possets about the same as Arcana -- BPAL is enough and I don't follow them. I wouldn't mind samples though.   Are there any languages other than English that you love? Would you like any books, music, movies, or other gifts in that language? Yes, yes, yes, and YES. I would love anything in German! I'm fluent.   Are you an Formula 1 fan and will you like a F1 lanyard (& the pass)? Not a fan at all.   I enjoy taking blank esssay-type notebooks and decorating them for journals. Would my witchee be interested? Or would anyone like one for their own witchee (color/decor suggestions taken gladly) No thanks. I really have no use for any.     What tarot card do you most identify with? I don't know the cards.   What are your thoughts on Halloween decorations? No thanks. I'm not a decorations person and I would forget to take them down. I still have the skeleton on my door, but that's OK because it's a skeleton. True story: my undergrad's colors were orange & black and they changed the color of the street signs and had all sorts of orange & black crap everywhere. It looked like Halloween-town all year long. Do you like Celtic things? (Clothes, jewelry, pictures ect.) Not really.   Would you like more contact from your witch? (I‘m talking particularly about e-mail) I'd love to get to know my witch better, even if I don't know my witch's name. But if witch is busy or shy or totally ninja I can understand because my witch is clearly already pretty damn awesome.   Can you receive flowers at your address? Would you prefer food or a plant instead? I can, but I'm usually not home during normal business hours. I like the idea of flowers and have never gotten any, but then again I would feel kind of bad because well... they die. And then it just seems like a waste. I have a black thumb of death when it comes to plants, too. Just ask my clinging-to-life palm thingie.   What about 2010 Wall calenders? Or 2010 journals or appointment diaries? What subject? Vendors have left me with a surplus of wall calendars at work and I just have no need for one at home. I already have a planner and I'm trying to transition it to my phone.   Would you mind vintage clothes? That would be cool. Not sure if I can pull off a vintage look though!   what are you and your family's feelings on: peanut butter, chocolate and caramel? LOVE. It's just me, so the family doesn't count   Do you use henna at all (hair or skin)? On my hair     How do you feel about stationary? (pens, notepads, cards, pencils, etc.) Yes please!! I could always use something to write on, and I'm in dire need of cool pens. I am mad about pens. I am also a pen fiend.   WKAP scents? There are waaaaay too many new scents out there, so I'm really not up on these scents. I'm always down for trying new scents, so decants would be nice. What's all the drama surrounding them about?   which shoes do you own that are your favorite? What are your "daily drivers"? Shoes. Woe.   So, I'm not really a shoe person. I think I have maybe 8 pairs of shoes, of which 4 are old and worn out but I just can't bear to throw away. I have a pair of Teva flip flops that get worn pretty much everywhere. But I'm not allowed to wear open toed shoes at work, so I've got a pair of clogs for that. I loooove clogs. Those are, I guess, my "daily drivers." I guess specifically Merrill clogs, because this is the 2nd pair of theirs that I've owned and I wore the last pair out (and still have them for who knows what reason). Now that it's so freaking hot, I usually leave them in my desk and wear my Tevas to/from work. My favorite shoes though are my boots. They're knee high, soft, black, and have a bit of a platform to them. Except they don't go well with jeans, and I can't wear skirts at work. My least favorite are my heels. Cute, but DEATH. I wore them to the bar a while back and NEVER AGAIN.   If you could describe yourself in 5 words, what would they be? Lost, random, intelligent, fast, strange   Who collects ACEOs/ATCs? Not me.   Do you collect new/used stamps? Will you like to get stamps on your mails? I'm not a stamp person.   I was wondering how you feel about burned DVDs. And do you have/want Repo? I have nothing against burned DVDs. But I already have Repo.   Would you object to annonomous postcards (real ones) from your witch before the big reveal??? That would be awesome!   For you tea drinkers, are you partial to tea bags or loose tea? How about tea paraphernalia (and what exactly IS tea paraphernalia, cause I don't drink much tea, but my witchee may or may not be a tea fan)? I'm not much of a tea person, but either is fine.   if i were your witch, and i wanted to make you a spell or mojo bag, would you be into that? and, if you were, would you want it for something like love, prosperity or luck? or would you want it for a certain element? or would you want it for something more personal- and what might that be? No thanks.   do you wear lip gloss/lip balm? if so, what flavors/scents? Yes I do. Umm.... I don't really have any that I don't like. I'm not sure what that would smell like though, maybe freshly baked cookies?   Do you like to find out there's a package on the way or to receive a tracking number to stalk, or do you prefer surprise packages? Either way. If you send something big and it should be here and I haven't posted receiving it, I might need a nudge because it probably ended up at the apartment office and they never tell us if we have something there because we are supposed to just know it is there.   Do you drink alcohol? Wine, beer or liquor? What is your favorite wine/beer/mixed drink? Yes! I love beers, especially microbrews, and just about any kind except IPAs. Dark, amber, and light beers are great. Is there any merchandise you want? Yes!! I only have Howl's moving Castle, but I've seen most of them. I loooove Mononoke! Anything with Mononoke would be exciting. In my travels I came across a small Miyazaki and Moebius art exhibition and it was phenomenal. I really want to see Ponyo.   Anyone ready for the new Carnivale update? What/when? And yeesh... so many offerings, so little money. And because of my funding situation and all right now, I'm going to have to do make with a few hundred less than what everyone else in my grad group gets.. motz.gif Short answer: no   are you into 80s movies (like i am ) if so, which are your favorites and who are your favorite characters? Personally I like Yankee Candle (some of them, anyway). Do you or don't you, and if not, what candles do you like? This assumes you like candles. Otherwise, what specific home fragrance do you use? I do like Yankee candles, and candles in general. No preference for flavors. I have a buttercream one that gets sniffed more than burned though. Seriously, my friends and I will just sit there and pass it back and forth and sniff at it.   Anyone want a nickname and embroidered headband from PandaBite? What instruments (voice counts) do you play? Would you enjoy sheet music? I can play flute and guitar, flute much better than the latter though. Sheet music would be great!   Would you want candles from this site, and if so, which scents interest you? http://www.darkcandles.com Candles are good. As for prefs? None, just caaaaandles.   I am on an origami crane kick recently, so I wonder if anyone will be interested in origami crane earrings, origami crane in a glass vial (~1.2cm wide) phone charm/pendant or just a container filled with cranes of different sizes. I like things in glass vials. Not so into earrings unless they are gauged, and a phone charm just would not work.   How do you feel about clothing/accessories made from animals? Anti-fur, leather, shells, etc.? Does even faux wig you out? I do not want anything with leather or fur, but shells are fine and I make an exception for bones. Faux leather and fur is OK though.   How do you deal with stress? What's your favorite way to unwind? Lately I deal with it by biking (and listening to my iPod while doing so)   You're given the opportunity to apprentice at any trade (or craft) of your choosing for the period of one year. Your mentor may be any currently living person. Which field of study would you choose, and who would be your mentor? I would apprentice with the glassblower who has a studio near where I grew up. I love glassworking and glassblowing sounds phenomenally fun.   sock dreams? <3!   Who wants hair pretties?(headbands, barrettes, pony-o's, scrunchies, bobby pins, hair clips, etc) If only they stay in short thin hair well ... unusual and quirky things welcome!   Do you mind artificial colors in your food Nah, they're cool.   Do you like Villainess soaps? What are your favorite scents? I have tried some samples and they are awesome. I haven't tried nearly enough to have a favorite scent, let alone plural!   how about fetishes? so whats your totem/fetish ? I don't know anything about them. I like turtles if that helps.   b]Are there any Gods, Goddess, or other mythological figures of whom you're particularly fond?[/b]   The oceany ones   Does anyone have any symbols they consider to be personally significant or talismanic? I kind of cycle through my music and at the moment I've got a definite preference for Adam Green over all the other stuff in my collection.   What's autumn like in your neck of the woods? What do you love and/or hate about it? It's California, so it's damn sunny still and warm. At least by autumn it cools off some so it's not 110F anymore, but it can still be too warm for me. I have no sense of time since moving here, since every day the damn sun is out. I WANT RAIN, DAMNIT. I don't like snow though. It rained last night, but looking around outside you would never guess it had.   What's your favorite product(s) at Trader Joe's? There is a TJ close to where I work. I usually get some of their prepackaged foods that I can just heat up and eat -- either room temp offerings or from the frozen section. I also like to grab one treat to keep in my desk for afternoon noshings if I really feel that I need a bit of sugar. I just put some english toffee in my desk. Haven't touched it yet, though.   If you're caught in front of the tv, what are you watching? If I'm caught in front of the tv... scandalous and unlikely. Actually, my neighbor has cable and I watch whatever he has on when I'm over. Usually it's Family Guy, South Park, or the Food Network. My own TV plays whatever I put in the DVD player. I'm really not a bit TV person AT ALL. I don't own my TV and DVD -- they are on loan from a friend and a former roomie, respectively. I don't think I would actually buy my own TV.   Any Amy Brown art fans? Who?   How do you feel about Halloween music? (mix CDs, what have you) Halloween-themed? No thanks. A mix CD with music that you think is fitting for autumn/Halloween is good though. Just not songs that are actually Halloween songs a la Xmas songs if you get what I mean.   Who else is reeeeeally looking forward to Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland? I will have to check this out, because I haven't heard of it before.   Is there a store that you love which does not have a location near you (but that has a physical presence somewhere, not just online? Why do you love it so much? Most any little shop that has a booth/tent at the PDX Saturday market. They have such lovely and fun things!   Lolcats....yeah or nay? Nay to the nth!!!!! I hate the grammar and attempts at cutsie captions and spellings and whatnot. It drives me up the wall. I do, however, like cute pictures of kitties.   who are your favorite artists/illustrators/art periods? I can't really say I have any.   Do you have a crush on anyone famous? Do you have a crush on any literary characters? Would you like fanfiction or fan art based on this/these people? No thanks for fanfic or art.   You're at home, or out, and you want a snack. Something that will get you through to the next meal, or through to the end of school or what ever. What do you grab? I've just got my (new) desk stocked up with some snacks -- Cheese crackers & english toffee from Trader Joe's, Special K granola bars, drink mix-ins, and honey sticks from my awesome witch last round, Carmencita. I would pick only one of those to have a little bit of for a snack. Also, nuts (esp cashews) are awesome and so is the Taiwanese tofu stuff that's a bit like jerky and all chewy and tasty.   If you had the funds to comission an original painting for yourself, what would it be of? What would it be like- colors, size, style? Nature scene, probably tropical water, of about poster size to put on the wall and full of very vibrant colors.   Is there ONE scent that you are just dying for from the Halloween update? I think The Girl is the one that sounds the absolute best to me and that I kinda want want want WANT.   Do you have a favorite bpal bottle art? I really liked the labels for Giallo, Labores Solis, and Black Butterfly Moon. There's probably others, but without a gallery database that's all that I can come up with on the fly.   Are there any decants from the Halloweenies, Literary Vampires, Gris Grimly, or Hellboy that you would be interested in receiving? I've got decants of Vamps, Hellboy, and 1 or 2 of the late summer scents coming. I would be interested in decants of the Gris Grimly line.   Pumpkin pecan waffles?   what's your stance on cranberries? I like them, but I wouldn't say I'm crazy about them.   Do you mind receiving used (in good condition, of course) CDs or DVDs? That's cool. Used and/or burned CDs or DVDs are awesome.   How often do you update your wishlist? When there is an update, when I place an order, or whenever I get imps/bottles from some kind soul. Sometimes in the case of updates I wait to get decants that I've ordered before putting up a bottle WL though. I also put a little date below so people can see when it was last updated.   May I help you fill out your costuming wardrobe (assuming you costume)? Are there articles you are seeking to enhance your a) Halloween costume, icon_cool.gif Renfest attire, c) Cosplay, d) Steampunk accouterment? I do not actively costume, but I do like "costume" accessories for every day wear, like a cool necklace or bracelet that would be perfect for some sort of costume but otherwise just spices up my outfit for the day. I hope that makes sense.     What fictional character do you identify most with and why? I don't know who I really identify with most. There's a lot who have traits I can identify with, and some who I wish I were more like. My more anime savvy friends say I seem to channel Osaka with most of my observations and commentary. Having read up on it, I can kind of see where they get that since I do make a number of off-kilter comments and strange, vaguely disturbing to normal people, ideas. My childhood friend says that the character Ampris, from the Alien Chronicles, reminds him a lot of me, and I guess I can agree with that.   Could you use a 'travel' imp case? How many should it hold? Yes I could. It should hold at least 2, but not so many that it is no longer travel size. 4-6 would probably be ideal.   "As a witchee, would you prefer to have many little packages sent to you throughout the round with a not-so-big final package or fewer things throughout the round with one HUGE final package to seal the sweetness?" I think I answered this on my official questionnaire...   [bWhat is your idea of the perfect evening at home?[/b] A friend or two over   Are you on any social networks (MySpace, Twitter, LJ, Facebook, Bebo, etc)? If so, make with the links! Are you open to new friends? LJ -- irrsinn, and I accept all friends. Lately it's been friends locked, because of RL drama and/or details that I don't want to post online b/c of paranoia and all. I'm also on facebook, but don't want to give out my real name on the forum. So if you really want to add me, PM me...           o you have any objections to receiving downloads? Is your internet connection fast enough for you to download large files like music easily? Are there any songs, albums, movies, or TV shows that you can't find/haven't been released that you want?   I would have major love for whoever could get me episodes of the 2007 Flash Gordon series. (Is it really pirating if it hasn't been released on DVD?) Seriously, I majorly want that show to watch on my computer at semi-decent quality whenever I want to. Other than that, I do have major love of DLing music, shows, movies, etc. If it is really good then I do usually buy it since I've yet to successfully hook up the laptop to my TV screen. Any suggestions, perhaps??   Do you have a Blu-Ray player? Nope. And technically neither my DVD player nor my TV belong to me.   There has been a lot of talk about chocolate, but none about Candy! What is your favorite Candy? What candy do you hate? Caramel, butterscotch/toffee hard candies, red hots, dots... yeah, it's all tasty   What's something you're really looking forward to in the semi-near future?   Also, bar hopping tonight.   How do you take your coffee (or tea)? Black or with cream and/or sugar? Opinion on tea- and/or coffee-related accessories/etc? I don't drink coffee or tea.   Do you believe we control our destiny, or does our destiny control us? We control it.   What one thing that is missing from your life would you like to have above all else? Either an SO or a best friend Preferably the former since they're a little more fun...   What's your favorite dessert treat? Ice cream? Cake? Pie? Fudge brownie cake with pie flavored ice cream on top? anything sugary...   In your perfect world it is chocolate and...? Nothing appropriate   How do you scent your home Tarts, reed diffusers, BPAL, candles? I majorly <3 reed diffusers, but totally don't have any at the moment. Or any candles left.   If I send you whole spices or coffee beans, would you be able to grind them or would you prefer them preground for your convenience? I can't grind them, but I do have a hammer to go smashy on them.   new question, because I'm learning how to sew - if you do any kind of craft, could you use supplies? What kind? knitting needles, yarn, amazing fabric, pinking shears, cool thimbles or pincushins, jewelery making supplies, beads, etc.? I'm learning to suture, not sew. But I would like to pick up one of my previous hobbies from before. I'm thinking glass lampworking or painting. I'm going to pick up my acrylic paints from my parents' at Xmas though. I wouldn't mind a sketch book and/or some pencils though, since I do miss drawing.   Super power? Telekinesis   What's your favorite pain-relief remedy or ritual? Something cold to drink and a tylenol   Do sounds make you happy? What ambient noises make you smile? Oh yes, I love sounds, especially the sound of rain, which I really really really miss since moving to California And my kitty purrrrrrring away happily. Also, the sound of the ocean.   when you receive your SW packages...do you like receiving things that are individually wrapped inside? or unwrapped? or both? Yikes, I don't know! I like the idea of things individually wrapped because that could be really really fun to open, but on the other hand it seems kind of wasteful even if I would toss any wrappings in the recycling bin.   Of course, we're all going to be grateful no matter what our witches give us, but for the record, what is your anti-present? Tell us something that you think your future witch might give you that you absolutely, unequivocally DO. NOT. WANT. Coffee or meat. And uh, since I'm trying to be healthy and lose weight and all, please don't include too many sweets. Hard candies are good and all, but I do not need irresistible tasties to counteract my efforts at this point in time. Self-restraint is hard when awesomeness has been gifted so generously. Oh, and no cat treats -- Kinase won't touch 'em.   What BPAL scent have you never tried but always wanted to? What scent have you tried and LOVED, and haven't been able to get more of and why? I've always kind of wondered what the rage about Tokyo Stomp is. And I majorly <3 Velvet Cthulhu and Harvest Moon 06 which are kind of hard to find... when I looked a month or so ago. I haven't had much time for internet browsings lately.   I know we're all scent sensitive here. What are your favorite non-perfume smells? Day in the life stuff? Xylene, ethanol spray, fresh cut grass, cooked spinach, rain, ocean, my kitty,   For those of us who like chocolate, do you like anything /in/ your chocolate, like fruit, nuts, or for the more daring among us, chilies? Nuts or chilies ... though really, anything at all is tasty when covered in chocolate except for raisins. RAISINS ARE VILE.       What was your favouritest job ever, and why? My last lab. I mean, what's not to like about bones and dissecting cow knees on a weekly basis?! Add in PCR, cell culture, and super geeky coworkers, and it just gets better and better. Though, I am looking forward to my new lab that I'm starting on Thursday -- spinal cords and braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiins. It should be just as awesome for similar reasons.   Which three albums would you take to your apocalypse bolt hole and how would you power the generator? Modest Mouse -- We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank Adam Green -- Gemstones System of a Down -- Steal This Album Bike powered generator   What GC scent have you been putting off getting since it'll "always be there"? Lots... top 3 would be O, Shango, and Bordello   Are you interested in things like home remedies for ailments, cleaning solutions, etc.? Cleaning solutions, yes, but nothing else thanks     An anonymous benefactor gives you $500 (or an equivalent amount of money in your currency of choice) with the following stipulations. You must spend all of it within a week: any money left unspent must be returned. You must spend at least half of the money on yourself. You may not use it to pay off debts or bills of any kind. What do you do with the money? BPAL, Lush, probably a cool necklace and/or bracelet from somewhere, shoes, clothes   Duct tape purses and wallets and things are pretty darned cool. Who else thinks so? Oh yeah.   Are you an avid reader? What's your favorite book/series? I don't have much time to read, but I do like to read. My favorite series are: His Dark Materials, The Dark Tower, The Gormenghast Trilogy, and Harry Potter.   Any cooks? Could you use anything cooking related? Aprons? Cookbooks? Measuring Cups? Recipes? Herb/Spice containers? Fancy Spices? Dish Towels? Cocktail napkins? Amazing Beaded Pot Holders? (like from our very own Pottersville! ) Something else? Oooh, I'd love a (BPTP) apron, and could totally do with well... anything. I don't have much in the way of ingredients, or places to store said ingredients. I do like to cook, just don't have much time, and I've no longer got roomies so it's only the stuff I've got which is limited.   who likes coloring books? I haven't had one in a long time, but I imagine it would be fun to color one with some crayons.   What are your plans for Halloween? Have you made any yet? Do you have any traditions? Party/dance of some sort, not sure where yet. I may even be hosting it. At any rate, it will involve lots of alcohol, music, and dancing while in costume.   You're in the kitchen at the end of a pay period and groceries are pretty scarce. Do you take the five ingredients you find first and make something fabulous, or do you order take out? Oh yeah, it's totally scavenging time at the end of the pay period, especially if it's on a later day in the week. I'm most likely to rummage around and concoct something out of what I can find, or go mooch off my neighbor, than I am to get takeout.   If you could decorate/redecorate any 1 room in your home, what would it be and how would you decorate it? I've kind of been redecorating my apartment lately. During the summer there's 2-3 big move-out periods and a lot of furniture and stuff ends up on the curbs or for free on CL. So I just keep an eye out for something and pick it up. In this manner I got my coffee table, desk chair (found a better one and got rid of my old one), 2 bookcases, 2 speakers (yes, working audio speakers), and my houseplants.   Also, my apartment has this kind of open-room design. My kitchen isn't really separated from the rest of the place and there's a bar (with stools), too. I've got kind of a lounge next to the kitchen that's created by furniture arrangement, and then there's the "dance floor" and in the corner is my desk and study area. If I had a choice of planned remodel, I'd get a bigger, corner desk. But mostly, I just want the place to be clean for once.   Any rabid sports fans out there? What teams do you root for? Not at all   What's your favorite animal? (You can have more than one.) I love aquatic animals in particular, of which turtle and octopus are probably my favorites, but I also love nudibranchs. Of the land animals, I adore big and small cats and the ocelot in particular.   This is how the world ends... zombie apocalypse, robot uprising, alien invasion, return of the elder gods... which doomsday scenario do you prefer (or make your own!)? As a Lovecraft fan, I've got to vote in favor of the elder gods returning. My friends were playing Left for Dead and it was a little intense for me after drinking, I confess.   In the year 2525... if man is still alive... what sort of future do you imagine? I'm not all that sure that people are capable of making the drastic changes needed to make our society and ways of life sustainable. Assuming that has been achieved, I'm not sure that we'll be as advanced as we imagine -- such changes will take a long time and a lot of money and resources to implement, which is going to take away from funding a space program. Also, if we're going to still be alive in 2525, we'll have needed to direct our attention away from outward pursuits to solving problems on our own soil, first. If anything, 2525 is more likely to be the start of space exploration and colonization rather than in the midst of it.   Do you believe in magic (or magick, if you prefer)? What does it mean to you? No   If you found the puzzle box from Hellraiser, what would you do with it? this question made me think of this - http://xkcd.com/242/   What's your favorite candy to stock up on at Halloween? Twix & Kitkats   What's your favorite color? Green!   Interested in locally produced products? Oh yeah, I love regional items and farmer's market stuff that you can't get anywhere else.   Would any witches be interested in home-made sewn type crafts? If so, what type? (e.g. tote bags, pillowcases, laptop covers, etc..)   I would swoooooon. I would totally love a laptop or phone cover/case. Or tote bags, or anything all useful and handsewn.   Imagine that you're given a shoebox-sized time capsule, and you are asked to put any number of items in the box that symbolize who you are. The items can be may be anything you can imagine, and money is no object, but they must fit within the box. Which items do you choose? A pipetter, a cat toy, a bike tire repair kit, and a wind-up scuba diver   Are you involved in any long-term, ambitious project? Yes. PhD! And I'm saving up to get a kayak.   What is your favorite Halloween icon? Braaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiins   Is anyone playing this round of SW into ABJ? Nope   favorite kind or take out kinda burger? whats your burger preference? veggie, meat or ???? No fast food, and I'm vegetarian. I like Morningstar brand.   Whats your favorite childhood toy? omg, LEGOS   If you have a pet, what kind of gifts would be good for them? He adores catnip, and things to attack or scratch the hell out of would be great. Hell, the boy loves cardboard and will appropriate the packaging of anything for his own amusement/scratching pleasure. So really, if you want, I can just throw the packaging across the room and let him go nuts on it. He's very strange in that he refuses treats. He just has no interest in them unless they're in with the rest of his food, and they don't get preferential treatment even then.   Do you Tweet? What is your Twitter name? Are you on Ravelry? What is your Ravelry name? No to both   What are everyone's favorite Halloween-y/Autumn-y/spooky movies? Are there any you don't own but would like to? Eh, anymore I'm not so much into spooky things as I am suspense. And there's a difference, since spooky I generally consider to be supernatural, but suspense can be just anything. I don't really have a favorite scary movie and nothing strikes me. OK, OK I confess that I have no idea about recent TV and movies because I don't watch TV, so I don't know what is out there, and I avoid the entertainment section of the news like the plague it is.   Are roasted pumpkin seeds and home made chex mix the best fall snack foods, or what? Oh yeah baby, oh yeah <3   what kinda socks ar you wearing tonight? I plan on wearing as little as possible tonight, which includes no socks. It's still too damn hot here. I wish it were cold. Can my future witch send some cold weather, preferably rain, my way?   What sorts of odd or regional foods do you crave? I can't think of anything. I'm sure if given a list I could say yay or nay, but there's nothing that strikes me really.   Whats your favorite pie, my dear SW's? The kind of apple pie that you get at the nearby Apple Hill. Thin crust full of a veritable mountain of fresh apples. And it's a lot of APPLE with just a teeny bit of sugary saucy stuff to it, and the apples still have a bit of crisp to them.   Do you like socks? Blankets? Wrist warmers? Arm warmers? Headband? Shawl? Or what kind of knitted thing would you love the most? OMG yes please to all of the above? Especially socks and arm warmers. Or a hat. Anything hand-knitted would seriously have me swooning.   How do you feel about ghost stories? Do you like to tell the old tales around a campfire? Read true accounts on the web way past your bedtime? Do you like to pick up a good anthology of Poe stories on a blustery day? Or is all that too scary for you? Nah, I'm hard to scare and even harder to gross out. Spooky stories are good. Maybe not a passion of mine, but they're good and entertaining to read. You gotta know though that I'm a scientist and pretty skeptical, but I do love a good story.   Who here is LOVING Warehouse 13? I ask because I do and Warehouse 13 inspired goodies would rock mah socks. Would it rock the socks of any other Witches? I never heard of it before. I googled it and it looks like something I'd watch if I can find it on hulu or netflix.   Coffee or Tea? other hot beverages everyone likes for fall? I don't drink coffee. I do like tea, but it's more often than not just too hot to drink tea. And while I also like hot chocolate and cider, I'm just not attracted to them when it's all warm and sunny out. I need to move back somewhere cold, cause I love (and miss!) rain and cold weather and being bundled up and drinking tasty hot cider/cocoa/tea.   Olive oil? Lavender? I'm from much the same area as the original asker of this question, aka olive oil country. I can get plenty from my local farmer's market, so I'm not really all that keen on anymore. Besides, it lasts a loooong time in my hands.   Does anyone in here wear a lot of dangly earrings or collect pendants of all kinds?? How about hair clips or pony tail band things? Dangly earrings are great if they are gauged. I majorly LOVE pendants of ANY kind. PENDAAAAAAANTS (said a la zombies asking for brains, mind you). I'd love hair stuff, since I never seem to buy any of it for myself. It's kind of short right now, and never gets beyond a few inches past my shoulders, but it could use some fun ornaments.   What is your favourite historical period? Err... current? I don't know, I kind of like the social freedom of ours and modern medicine. Now if we're talking for fun or fashion-wise, Victorian/Steampunk.   Did you order anything from the most recent update? I got the Falling Leaf Moon and some decants from the vampire/late summer scents are on their way to me. I might want a bottle of one of those. The absolute latest update though has a lot that appeals to me in the Hellboy category and I totally want at least one of the forum-onlies, but just the Moon for me. I might get decants of the Hellboys if there's a circle somewhere.   Vampires or Werewolves? Or some other monster? CTHULHU

SW Random questions 9/3

What are everyone's favorite Halloween-y/Autumn-y/spooky movies? Are there any you don't own but would like to? Not so much on the scary spooky films. I like M. Night Shamalan, and Alfred Hitchcock, that kind of thing, but not the usual Halloween stuff. Mind you, I did enjoy the Kronos-scored Dracula release.   Are roasted pumpkin seeds and home made chex mix the best fall snack foods, or what? Clearly you've never had my garam masala roasted almonds   Whats your favorite pie, my dear SW's? Mmm. Cold fruit pie, maybe blackberry-apple, or rhubarb. It has to be cold, though - nice & pasty...   What kinda socks are you wearing tonight? None right now, but my M Stripes & Super Dreamies came out to play recently...   Do you like socks? Blankets? Wrist warmers? Arm warmers? Headband? Shawl? Or what kind of knitted thing would you love the most? I'm a recent convert to socks, the longer the better! I have larger calves & thighs, so fit is important. We keep the house at a balmy 65 all winter long, so blankets, arm/wrist warmers & cute beanies are always welcome. I crochet, and am envious of the smooth glory that is stockinette. I especially covet a Felicity in some kind of slubby grey/green/brown/purple blend...   How do you feel about ghost stories? Do you like to tell the old tales around a campfire? Read true accounts on the web way past your bedtime? Do you like to pick up a good anthology of Poe stories on a blustery day? Or is all that too scary for you? The only creepy stories I really enjoy are Ray Bradbury's - just the right mix of creep, nostalgia, & adrenaline I can't wait til Tiny C is old enough for me to read him The October Tree.   Who here is LOVING Warehouse 13? Erm. Whut? Nother question! Coffee or Tea? Yes please! I'm partial to a good Ethiopian/Kenyan, no flavored or decaf plz. I'm English, so tea is a life force - Assam, Ceylon, Prince of Wales... if you can find Twining's 1706, I would die of happiness! Not so much on the flavored stuff, but I do like a nice lychee/rose/chai. Herbals mainly go to the kidlet, or for making iced tea, and we are up to our armpits in green tea thanks to overly generous neighbors.   Interested in locally produced products? Food, skincare or both? Yes! Buy local! I love regionally-unique stuff - if there's a story behind it, so much the better!   Does anyone in here wear a lot of dangly earrings or collect pendants of all kinds?? How about hair clips or pony tail band things? No earrings or ponytails round here, but I could use some sweet barrettes/fancy slides/hairpins to keep my layers out of my face on occasion...   What is your favourite historical period? Hmmm. I'm really digging the 30s & 40s lately - nicely cut suits, everyone in hats, the whole thrill of transportation... I also am fascinated by how the population responded to war - there's an economy & fortitude there that I don't think we've seen since.   What other hot beverages everyone likes for fall? The usual coffee & tea, hot toddies, hot cider, real hot chocolate...   Did you order anything from the most recent update? No, I'm being good & sitting on my hands for the moment.   Olive oil? Ooo yeah. Love it in soap, too   Lavender? Yes, and yes again! I like to smell it, eat it, wash with it, look at it...   Vampires or Werewolves? Or some other monster? Eh. Neither? The Elliots? (Any Bradbury readers out there?) Any Gamers here? What kind? Board games? RPG? Miniature? MMORPG? Back when we were child-free, DH & I used to have LotR RISK marathons & regular chess matches... some day I hope to have both time & brain cells enough to resume that tradition.

Least favorite notes: Rose, lilies, civet, dirt, most vetivers & dragons bloods Least favorite non-BPAL perfumes: Just about anything you’d find at the mall If Beth made a custom blend for you, what would the notes be, and what would you want the label art to look like? Frankincense, black pepper, carnation, spikenard, chrysanthemum, osmanthus, beeswax, tea, tobacco, olive blossom… She’s done combinations of a few of these, but man o day, what I wouldn’t give for a bottle with everything blended together… The label would be sepia-toned with a series of botanical drawings in varying transparencies overlaying each other. There’d be a bit of hand-tinting, and a few fine details in bronze ink.   Clothing & Jewelry Hair type: Straight, thick & fine; wash & go, mostly, but I’m looking for a good natural styling putty/paste now my hair’s short Skin Type: Combination, prone to hormonal breakouts Allergies (specifically B&B related): No cocoa butter in my facial products, plz. Wood tones, deep rust, coffee brown, shots of cream & scarlet red. Things you collect: Dust… DH has an enormous record collection, and we love old travel posters. Bonus points for anything Chicago/train related. There’s an obscure deep olive green series of Lord Nelson pottery that we’re in love with…. Favorite music: Oh crap. Too much to list here. Currently rocking Explosions in the Sky, Sigur Ros, Bach cello suites, White Rabbits, Nick Cave/Grinderman, Tom Waits… Least favorite music: Over-produced pop/emo/rap. EZ listening. Musicals. Vegetarian/Vegan?: (Please be as specific as possible to reduce confusion!) Vegetarian with serious lapses. I am horrifically allergic to chicken & turkey, and don’t do red meat at all. I do eat a good bit of fish (esp sushi), and bacon & sausage & pate are my undoing. I do wear leather, but no fur, please. Other food restrictions: No artificial sweeteners or MSG, plz. Favorite flavors: Ginger, tea, blackberry, black currant, lavender, rosemary, black pepper Favorite foods/drinks: Sushi, Cornish ice cream, Christmas pudding, organic/fair trade, micro-roasted coffee, Ceylon/Assam tea with milk, homegrown tomatoes on homemade bread with salt & pepper, chaat papri, mezze platters, Panang curry with tofu, a good Ploughman’s with Branston Pickle, good dark chocolate Favorite authors/genres: Tolkien, Hemingway, Ondaatje, Ray Bradbury, Amanda Barrett, Willa Cather, Ayn Rand, Dorothy Sayers, Patrick O’Brien, Philip Pullman, Joan Aiken… I like a ripping good yarn, a good dose of escapism & adventure, but the writing has to be quality. Least favorite authors/genres: Romance, chick lit, most of what passes for mystery/suspense/true crime. Books/authors you'd like to read, but haven't yet: How do you feel about receiving gently used books as gifts? LOVE IT. Favorite stores (including clothing stores): Cost Plus & IKEA, neither of which are convenient anymore. Target & Old Navy (a love/hate relationship, really). Sometimes 4.75, sometimes 2. I either have it nailed shut or have near-total FAIL.   - Where, outside of the U.S. would you love to visit? (if you're international, this can be anywhere) Scotland, the rest of England I haven’t seen, New Zealand, Oz, Japan, Tibet, Nepal, Scandinavia, Iceland… anywhere cool & green & mountainous/coastal will do   - Do people tell you that you act older, younger, or your age? Both – apparently I look younger than 36, but act much older… Two kids & two marriages will do that, I guess.   - Have you ever been skinny dipping? Yep, and I’d happily do it again in a fairly secluded setting.   - Do you wear pajamas to places other than at your house? No way – I’ll pop out to the curb in my yoga pants, but that’s it.   - Your least favorite feature about yourself: My pot belly – see the 2 kids part. My stomach muscles separated & all my flab rides right there. Reeeal attractive. A-line skirts are my friend.   - Do you live in a neighborhood or in the middle of nowhere? In a ridiculously twee neighborhood in an otherwise shabby/shady part of the city. Folks usually don’t even know our street exists, and are blown away by the quaint architecture & porch-sitting, baby dandling, neighborly atmosphere. If we lived anywhere else, I’d probably hate this redneck excuse for a city.   - Do you like to shop? Honestly… yes, but not for very long. I’d rather spend an hour or two in one or two good stores than all day shop-hopping. Online, shopping, on the other hand, I adore.   - If you were a shoe, what would you be and why? A clog – sturdy, practical, maybe a little clunky, but cute in my own way.   - They're making a bio-pic based on your life. Who's portraying you? Enya, but she’d have to spend a year with some English bakers first to get the physique & the attitude down…   -Have you ever thought, "oh, I'm going to get myself one of those one of these days" but then never do? List 1 under $10 and 1 over $10. A new potato peeler/ice cream scoop to replace the ones I gacked for the soap business … A new rug for my office.   - Sunrise or sunset? Sunrise, but only just. Any time the birds are singing like mad.   - Has a stranger ever told you that you did something really well? What was it? Handled the multi-headed hydra that is my life J Baked. Handled my son’s tantrum. Talked someone through using a computer system. Ignored the haters & did my own damn thing.   - Do you like garage sales (boot sales)? Sometimes… the ones in Chicago were always worthwhile.   - I like to slather my food in …: attention? I am partial to good sea salt & fresh black pepper…   - State fairs or carnivals? Oh yes – especially the livestock/agricultural buildings, saltwater taffy, funnel cakes, & fried fish sandwiches on thick white bread.   - Do you like to splash in puddles after it rains? Did the thought make you smile? Why wait til after? One of my favorite memories is when Tiny C & I went out in a summer downpour & tore up & down the sidewalk in our bare feet.     Notes (Here's where you can add additional information you'd like your Switch Witch to know!): Oh Witchy, my Witchy. I’m a mom. Draw me a stick figure on a piece of newsprint & I’ll love you forever. I rarely spoil myself, and DH & I are both fairly practical, low-key sorts, so my expectations are most forgiving. Please send me a ping once in a while so I know you’re out there, but don’t worry about showering me with packages. I’m just happy to be here.   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Forum Information (Everything written below this line is removed before questionnaires are forwarded, and is only meant to help out the Ringleaders.)   Are you willing to ship internationally?: Alas, I have to say no for this round L   Date you Joined the Forum: September 1, 2006   If you joined under 2 months ago, do you have a history/feedback under Ebay, MUA, etc (please list):   Have you participated in Switch Witch/SwapFaery/BirthdaySprite before?: Yes If yes, who did you send to/receive from: Lilly/chimera87; girasol/VCW Please talk about your past experiences and, if applicable, give us feedback on your most recent SW: LOVED IT. Pretty high – e-cards, multiple packages As a Witchee (receiver), do you have any preferences regarding the level of contact from a Witch? I like to feel loved… ninja Witches make me sad.   (Note: Mentors are separate from your Switch Witches. New witches will be paired up with more experienced witches to help them learn the ropes) Please choose only one; don't select to be a Mentor and matched with one. Do you want to be a Mentor Witch this round? Sure! Do you want to be matched with a Mentor Witch? No, thanks!

Switch Witch Halloweenie 2009

Dear My Witch,   Hi! Thank you so much for witching me! I'm going to be posting answers to questions and anything else I can think of that might be helpful to you here.   Stuff to add I've already thought of:   1. Favorite movie I left off my list - Repo! The Genetic Opera 2. NEW perfume to add to my list of favorites - Zombie Apocalypse! I just got it in a swap, and it is awesome!   Love, Cam   Q&A If you were my witchee, would you like any of the scents/sizes that are available on clearance? Candle-wise, I would really love some unscented candles in a variety of colors.   Who wants hair pretties? (headbands, barrettes, pony-o's, scrunchies, bobby pins, hair clips, etc) I always look dumb in headbands, but plain pony-o's that won't break my hair would be great (I need for the gym and am constantly losing them), as would pretty bobby pins and other hair-put-uppables, as my hair is long enough now to actually put up and do cute things with.   Do you mind artificial colors in your food (like, for example, if I made cookies and frosted them with blue or red food color, would that totally squick you out?) Are food colorings okay but only if they are natural? I would prefer natural colorings, but they don't squick me out.   Would you want candles from this site, and if so, which scents interest you? http://www.darkcandles.com Oooh, those look nice! Scents that interest me are Bonfire, Falling Leaves, Chocolate Bat, Haunted House, Jack O'Latte, Pumpkin & Spice, Clove, Dracula, Erotica, Nosferatu   Which of the seven deadly sins is most likely to be your undoing? Most likely pride.   Who is musically inclined? Not me.   I am on an origami crane kick recently, so I wonder if anyone will be interested in origami crane earrings, origami crane in a glass vial (~1.2cm wide) phone charm/pendant or just a container filled with cranes of different sizes. That sounds really pretty!   How do you feel about clothing/accessories made from animals? Anti-fur, leather, shells, etc.? Does even faux wig you out? No fur, please.   How do you deal with stress? What's your favorite way to unwind? A glass of wine, a good book and a soak in the tub.   You're given the opportunity to apprentice at any trade (or craft) of your choosing for the period of one year. Your mentor may be any currently living person. Which field of study would you choose, and who would be your mentor? I would love to learn to make wine, with Nicolás Catena as my mentor.   Sock dreams? Hmmm. I've never been much of a sock person, but looking at their site... wow. I LOVE those over-the-knee socks. Ooh, and look at the arm warmers. And the leg ones! I have an addiction to little ballet flats that don't really accommodate socks, but those might work. And I love tights. Oooh, and the super dreamy stockings!   ETA: Argh! You guys are such evil enablers. Seriously drooling over the Sock Dreams site now!   Are there any musicals you love? Repo! I would kill to have it on Blu-ray. Not sure why I haven't bought it yet, 'cause it is quite cheap for Blu-ray.   How broad is your musical taste? Very.   Does anyone have any symbols they consider to be personally significant or talismanic? Cats, angels/wings, fire, Om. My wedding band has beautiful joined Celtic knotwork hearts.   Sweet Diva boxes just went up for sale for September. Would you like to receive something of this nature from your witch? I would squee myself to death over that.   Do you have a favorite poem or poet? Probably Eliot. Or Shakespeare. I am very fond of lots of poets tho.   Are there any Gods, Goddess, or other mythological figures of whom you're particularly fond? Bastet, Freya, Hecate   Super villain or vigilante? Super Villain!   Pirate or ninja? Pirate. As Pottersville pointed out, much better clothes & accessories.   Can you use pill boxes, a hard ID case, coin purse, etc? Sure! A cool case for business cards would be particularly nice. Mine is plain black. Bo-ring!   If you do any kind of craft, could you use supplies? What kind? knitting needles, yarn, amazing fabric, pinking shears, cool thimbles or pincushins, jewelery making supplies, beads, etc.? I could use jewelry making bits & bobs, and/or neat beads.   For the crafty people out there: would you prefer something crafted or crafting supplies? Either is ok with me.   What's your favorite pain-relief remedy or ritual? For headaches, I love GRR. It's very soothing. I would LOVE some Ugh massage oil for muscle aches, but it's just one of those things I never seem to remember to order.   If you're caught in front of the tv, what are you watching? Supernatural, Doctor Who, Fringe, Top Chef, Project Runway, House, Bones, Dexter, Mythbusters, Top Gear, Kitchen Nightmares.   What is your favorite creepy folk story or legend? The Bell Witch and The Mothman   If your witch were to either write something for you or put together a collection of ghost stories, would you rather have it in writing, recorded as an oral telling, or both? Any of the above would be fantastic!   What mythical or fantastic race of creatures (dragons, unicorns, griffins, elves, dwarves, faeries, etc.) do you most identify with, and why? I love Dragons.   How do you feel about Dia de los Muertos? Are you interested in sugar skulls? Catrina (or other) skeleton figurines? It's very cool! I would love Dia de los Muertos stuff.   Lolcats....yeah or nay? That's a yay.   What's your favorite items at Trader Joe's? There is no Trader Joe's near me, sadly, so anything I can get. I have a friend who used to send me care packages from there when she lived in Columbus. I can't remember specifics, except that one time she sent sandwich cookies (chocolate with vanilla cream center) that I LOVED.   Is there a store that you love which does not have a location near you (but that has a physical presence somewhere, not just online? Why do you love it so much? Other than the aforementioned Trader Joe's? Sephora. I really don't think I need explain that in this crowd. Also Lush.   If you had the funds to commission an original painting for yourself, what would it be of? What would it be like- colors, size, style? I would love a painting of Bastet. Colors and style would really be up to the artist. I'm pretty open and have eclectic tastes. I have an amazing pentic that I commissioned from a friend in exchange for a website (see links below for photos of each piece) and it takes up most of one wall.   Centerpiece: http://juliearmbruster.net/art.php?view=photo&id=234 Top: http://juliearmbruster.net/art.php?view=photo&id=235 Left: http://juliearmbruster.net/art.php?view=photo&id=237 Right: http://juliearmbruster.net/art.php?view=photo&id=238 Bottom: http://juliearmbruster.net/art.php?view=photo&id=236   Size-wise, something not too tall would be best ('cause I'm running out of long space), but I can do wide-ish ok. Small things are nice too though. If my witch is an artist, I would cherish a piece of her artwork.   What's autumn like in your neck of the woods? What do you love and/or hate about it? Beautiful. We get gorgeous leaves most years. Once the weather gets cool and crisp, I'm in heaven. I love everything about it; the temperatures, the smells of wood smoke and leaves, etc, the beautiful look of the trees and the light outside. It's my favorite time of year.   Any Amy Brown art fans? I like her stuff, though I don't own anything so I don't know if I'd call myself a fan per se. But her work is pretty. I would not object.   How do you feel about Halloween music? Bring 'em on.   Who else is reeeeeally looking forward to Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland? I'm looking forward to it.   Do you have a crush on anyone famous? Do you have a crush on any literary characters? Would you like fanfiction or fan art based on this/these people? Not really, and no thanks.   You're at home, or out, and you want a snack. Something that will get you through to the next meal, or through to the end of school or what ever. What do you grab? I am typically not a snacker. If I do, it's something like jerky or fruit.   Your one absolute favorite BPAL? Ugh, it's so hard to decide!!! Snake Oil maybe. Right now I'm really in love with Zombie Apocalypse and Feast of the Greatly Revered Ones. Of course, I haven't got my Weenie order yet....   Do you have a favorite BPAL bottle art? Again, so hard to decide! I love the Ode to Aphrodite series, Sunbird, Velvet Pink Kitty... there are so many great ones!   Are there any decants from the Halloweenies, Literary Vampires, Gris Grimly, or Hellboy that you would be interested in receiving? I would love decants of the Literary Vampires, Gris Grimly and Hellboy scents. I've ordered some of the others already, but none of those yet.   Pumpkin pecan waffles? *grabs her plate*   Do you have any objections to receiving downloads? Is your internet connection fast enough for you to download large files like music easily? Are there any songs, albums, movies, or TV shows that you can't find/haven't been released that you want? Yep. That wouldn't be a problem.   Um.... I don't have ANY of the Alias seasons, an I would love to. That was one of my favorite shows ever.   What fictional character do you identify most with and why? Spider Jerusalem from Warren Ellis' Transmetropolitan. Because let's be honest, I kind of hate people a good bit of the time (present company excepted; you are not mere "people," you are switch witches and full of awesome) and am generally cranky and misanthropic. But in a fun way.   Could you use a 'travel' imp case? How many should it hold? Nah. I've got stuff for that.   Do you have a blu-ray player? Yes! I have a PS3 and I love it.   What's something you're really looking forward to in the semi-near future? The hubby and I are taking a little two-day trip to Charleston for our anniversary. We've never been there, so we're going to go down, see historical stuff, go on ghost tours, and eat at a couple of good restaurants recommended by friends who used to live there. We're splurging on a nice hotel too, so it should be really romantic and fun.   Are there any childhood shows/movies/games/books/ect. that still hold a really special place in your heart? Winnie the Pooh, Nancy Drew, tons of other books because I've probably spent the majority of time in my life buried in a book. Also, the original Legend of Zelda for NES. My mom and I played that game together and had so much fun!   What BPAL scent have you never tried but always wanted to? Monsterbait: Underpants   What scent have you tried and LOVED, and haven't been able to get more of and why? Storyville, for obvious reasons.   As a witchee, would you prefer to have many little packages sent to you throughout the round with a not-so-big final package or fewer things throughout the round with one huge final package to seal the sweetness? Either way is ok with me. Whatever works best for my witch time-wise and financially.   What is your idea of the perfect evening at home? Wine, sushi, the hubby. Maybe a good movie/tv show/game to play... or not.   Are you on any social networks (MySpace, Twitter, LJ, Facebook, Bebo, etc)? If so, make with the links! http://facebook.com/cammycat http://twitter.com/cammycat http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/243873 http://cam.vox.com (not often updated) http://www.catster.com/family/502957 http://cammycat.livejournal.com (not often updated) http://www.google.com/profiles/camelliacollins http://www.linkedin.com/in/camelliacollins http://www.friendfeed.com/cammycat http://myspace.com/designcam (never updated, should just be deleted)   Of course, we're all going to be grateful no matter what our witches give us, but for the record, what is your anti-present? Tell us something that you think your future witch might give you that you absolutely, unequivocally DO. NOT. WANT. Although I am grateful for anything my future witch would send.... I realy don't like candy with sticky coconut stuff (like Mounds or Almond Joy). (Although I'm sure I would find someone who'd munch it right up happily.)   When you receive your sw packages...do you like receiving things that are individually wrapped inside? or unwrapped? or both? I love unwrapping things, but unwrapped is ok too. I am the WORST wrapper in the world. I can haz no talent. So I'm not terribly pick about it.   Super power? The ability to eat as much chocolate as I want and never gain weight, LOL.   If I send you whole spices or coffee beans, would you be able to grind them or would you prefer them preground for your convenience? Whole, please. I love to grind things fresh myself.   For the tea and coffee drinkers: Opinion on tea- and/or coffee-related accessories/etc? (Teaware, sugar crystals, infusers, tea chests, etc)How do you take your coffee (or tea)? Black or with cream and/or sugar? Accessories would be great. I take my coffee with cream and my tea with honey, unless it's spicy or chai-like, in which case I sometimes add a little milk too.   Restaurants you'd like a gift certificate to on Restaurant.com? Zambra or Bier Garden   In your perfect world it is chocolate and...? Wine. And my hubby.   How do you scent your home: tarts, reed diffusers, BPAL, candles? I have just tried Nocturne Alchemy's offering oils and am in love with those. I also use BPAL atmospheric sprays with a little fan diffuser, incense, or occasionally candles.   Do sounds make you happy? What ambient noises make you smile? I love the sounds of my cats purring, rain on the roof, wind chimes.   How do you take your coffee (or tea)? Black or with cream and/or sugar? I am trying to break the sugar-in-my-coffee habit. I can't break the cream habit. Must have cream. Usually in tea, I just like a little honey, unless it's a spicy, chai-type tea, in which case I like it with a lil splash of milk or cream.   Do you believe we control our destiny, or does our destiny control us? I am the otter of my own fat.   What one thing that is missing from your life would you like to have above all else? Greater financial stability. I could really use help planning for retirement, developing some sort of savings, etc. I suck at this stuff.   What's your favorite dessert treat? Ice cream? Cake? Pie? Fudge brownie cake with pie flavored ice cream on top? Creme brulee.   What was your favouritest job ever, and why? I love the job I have now. I love the work itself (primarily branding and web development), and in spite of its stresses, running your own business is great.   Which three albums would you take to your apocalypse bolt hole and how would you power the generator? I can only pick THREE!? That's not enough! Here are five. Can't narrow it down any further.   Bad Religion - "Suffer" Joy Division - "Unknown Pleasures" Most Precious Blood - "Nothing in Vein" My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult - "The Best of TKK" Social Distortion - "White Light, White Heat, White Trash"   As for powering the generator, I have no clue. Whatever my father-in-law told me was the best idea, probably (he's got a couple degrees in engineering and is super smart).   What GC scent have you been putting off getting since it'll "always be there"? Queen Alice   Any cooks? Could you use anything cooking related? Aprons? Cookbooks? Measuring Cups? Recipes? Herb/Spice containers? Fancy Spices? Dish Towels? Cocktail napkins? Amazing Beaded Pot Holders? (like from our very own Pottersville! ) Something else? I am not much of a cook, but my hubby is, and me, I love to eat. Exotic spices/herbs/peppers would be wonderful. We are forever losing measuring cups and spoons. A good spice rack would be wonderful (our storage solution isn't ideal or at all organized). Pot holders, napkins, yay! Cookbooks, we have.   Are you an avid reader? What's your favorite book/series? I read practically every spare moment. I think I answered the favorites question in my questionnaire.   What's your favorite candy to stock up on at Halloween? Sour Skittles and Reese's Pieces.   What are your phobias? Tight spaces. Heights to some degree. And freaking spiders (yuck!).   What is your favourite flower (or plant)? I love trees (particularly maples, cherries and willows), roses, Stargazer lilies and irises.   Duct tape purses and wallets and things are pretty darned cool. Who else thinks so? Not really my thing. Hit my Kaboodle wish list and pick up some things I've been lusting after and normally wouldn't buy for myself.   Who likes coloring books? Not really my thing.   Do you have a Good Reads profile? If so, make with the link! If you don't have one, go make one! http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/243873   You're in the kitchen at the end of a pay period and groceries are pretty scarce. Do you take the five ingredients you find first and make something fabulous, or do you order take out? Take out. We have a really awesome (and cheap!) Chinese place in town. Happy Star FTW!   If you could decorate/redecorate any 1 room in your home, what would it be and how would you decorate it? I would LOVE to redecorate our stupid kitchen. The counter tops need replacing, we need an island or something -- anything! -- to give us some counter space. I'd also replace the refrigerator, washing machine and dryer (the fridge with something stainless, washer/drying with one of those cool front-loaders in red to match our other kitchen stuff). I'd also retile the place with something pretty and stone, and replace the windows down there, which are very old and drafty.   Any rabid sports fans out there? What teams do you root for? It's that time of year again, and sadly, our teams did not get off to a great start this football season. The hubby and I like football. The college teams we like are UGA (where I got my MA), Florida State (where the hubby went to school) and Virginia Tech (where my FIL works). In terms of pro teams, we like the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons.   What's your favorite animal? (You can have more than one.) I'm betting my witch can figure this out from my questionnaire, but CATS! Cats of all kinds, domestic or big. I also love wolves, otters, camels, foxes, meerkats... just about any mammal. I love animals, period, though I have my faves.   This is how the world ends... zombie apocalypse, robot uprising, alien invasion, return of the elder gods... which doomsday scenario do you prefer (or make your own!)? You know the zombies are coming.   In the year 2525... if man is still alive... what sort of future do you imagine? (apologies to anyone who gets that song stuck in their head!) I hope for a very Star Trek future... and sadly, fear we'll end up with something more Mad Max.   Do you believe in magic (or magick, if you prefer)? What does it mean to you? To some extent. I believe, at the very least, magic and ritual can help focus our intentions and strengthen our ability to make what we will a reality. I hope that makes sense.   If you found the puzzle box from Hellraiser, what would you do with it? ( and would you be able to resist playing with it? ) Bury that fucker! At least if I was cognizant of what it was. And the reason would be that otherwise, I probably wouldn't be able to resist.   Do you like pinup art/images? Yes!   What are your plans for Halloween? Have you made any yet? Do you have any traditions? Not yet! However, we're hoping to have a party, or at the very least invite our best couple friends over, watch a bunch of scary movies, and eat food that's really bad for us, LOL.   Tradition-wise, we decorate our house and front yard for autumn and Halloween every year. We also do some sort of Mabon celebration on the equinox. My hubby makes these delicious steak fajitas with a pumpkin-habanero sauce.   Any other steampunk fans/lovers? Oh yes! Very much so.   Describe your ideal picnic lunch. Where would you go? Who (if anyone, and yes there can be multiple people) would accompany you? What sort of food would you take? And, of course, if a picnic lunch sounds like a horrible idea, feel free to say so! I love taking a picnic lunch with my hubby in the park across the street from our house. We usually bring wine, chicken (either baked or fried), some good cheeses, fruit and other finger foods like olives and such, and spread a blanket out under the trees by the pond. It's romantic and pretty cheap too.   Would any witches be interested in home-made sewn type crafts? If so, what type? (e.g. tote bags, pillowcases, laptop covers, etc..) I would fall all over myself for a handmade Kindle case.   Favorite kind or take out kinda burger? whats your burger preference? veggie, meat or ???? OMG. My husband made the best freaking burgers last night. He combined ground lamb and beef, added herbs (sage, parsley and chives), and we had them on whole wheat buns with Manchego cheese, smoky bbq sauce, lettuce and tomatoes. That, ladies & gents, is my new favorite burger. Just thinking about it makes me hungry.   Whats your favorite childhood toy? I had this bear called "A.G. Bear" (as I recall, that was actually the offical toy name). When you moved him, he made these funny little noises. He had soft grey fur and a red shirt. I loved that thing. Also, my Pound Purries.   If you have a pet, what kind of gifts would be good for them? My cats LOVE catnip. Catnip or catnip toys would be wonderful, or one of those cardboard scratchers. No treats; they won't eat them, the weirdos. The dog would like just about anything. Toys, bones, treats, whatever. He's a dog; he's easy.   Do you Tweet? What is your Twitter name? Yes. I'm cammycat.   Are you on Ravelry? What is your Ravelry name? I think I've created an account there. The username would be either cam or cammycat.   What is your favorite Halloween icon? Black cats   Imagine that you're given a shoebox-sized time capsule, and you are asked to put one item in that box that symbolizes who you are. It may be anything you can imagine, and money is no object, but you are limited to one item, and it must fit within the box. What item do you choose? Hmmm. I'll have to try to answer that one for my witch in the blog. It will take some thought.   Are you involved in any long-term, ambitious project? Yes. But I don't want to say what it is just yet.   Who here is LOVING Warehouse 13? I'm not loving it yet, but I do like it and DVR it.   Nother question! Coffee or Tea? Both are love.   Lavender? I'm not a lavender person. I love sage, thyme, basil, and lots of other herbs though. And I do have use for herbs, smudge sticks, etc.   Olive Oil? I LOVE olive oil... but I've got the hookup. One of our clients (who are also the parents of one of the hubby's oldest friends) runs an olive tree nursery in Florida, and they send us the most fabulous artisan olive oil on a regular basis. So I'm set.... at least for regular olive oil. Infused, on the other hand...? That would be very cool.   Does anyone in here wear a lot of dangly earrings or collect pendants of all kinds?? How about hair clips or pony tail band things? Dangly earrings and pendants are cool. Hair-wise, I usually just leave mine down, but I could use pretty things to use when I pin it up.   What sorts of odd or regional foods do you crave? I'm a big ole foodie, and hugely into local foods as well as ethnic cuisines of all kinds. I love getting neat local stuff anytime I travel. In terms of regional (American) stuff I especially crave... boiled peanuts. I lived in Georgia for a couple of years, and it's a rare treat to go through SC or GA and get to have them. Also, I'm a Virginia girl, and I Virginia wine.   What is your favourite historical period? I'm super fascinated by ancient Egypt, and also into the Italian Renaissance and the Roaring 20's.   Did you order anything from the most recent update? Um.... well. I placed a rather embarassingly large Halloweenie order a couple of weeks ago. I haven't ordered anything yet from the most recent update, and am trying to be patient, since it looks like a lot of it (the Hellboy scents, etc.) will be around for awhile and I have plenty of time. But I am absolutely drooling over some of it (Pumpkin Spice Bath Oil, I'm looking at you)! (Will add stuff to my wishlist for my witch's convenience). I already have The Fool, thanks to a friend who went to Comic Con. I'll probably go ahead and order Falling Leaf Moon.   Vampires or Werewolves? Both. And Zombies. Speaking of which, my witch should know that I've been on a real werewolf-book-reading kick lately.   What are everyone's favorite Halloween-y/Autumn-y/spooky movies? Are there any you don't own but would like to? Mine are (in no particular order): anything involving ZOMBIES , just about anything Lovecraft, Dracula, Lost Boys, Fright Night (1&2), Innocent Blood, The Nightmare Before Xmas, the Underworld movies, Salem's Lot, Subspecies, The Hunger, My Best Friend is a Vampire, Warlock, The Wicker Man (original), Tale of a Vampire, any Dario Argento movie, The Brothers Grimm, Sleepy Hollow, Let the Right One In, Merlin (TV series), Near Dark, Nosferatu, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Evil Dead movies, Blair Witch Project (yeah yeah, I know... but those woods look JUST LIKE where I live), Event Horizon, Hellraiser, Cat People, The Howling movies. As for stuff I don't have, I don't have most of the above. I DO have Bram Stoker's Dracula, Lost Boys, Nightmare Before Xmas, the Underworld movies, and Merlin.   Are roasted pumpkin seeds and home made chex mix the best fall snack foods, or what? They are very yummy!   What kinda socks ar you wearing tonight? None. I'm just not a sock person. This may be influenced by the fact that we have hardwood floors and steep stairs, so trying to navigate them in socks is taking your life in your hands, lol. I wear them to the gym, then promptly take them off with my shoes when I get home.   Whats your favorite pie, my dear SW's? Key lime. And apple. My hubby makes a freaking fantastic apple pie. Hmm... and it's just about that time of year....   Do you like socks? Blankets? Wrist warmers? Arm warmers? Headband? Shawl? Or what kind of knitted thing would you love the most? Yes. I am especially crazy about wrist/armwarmers and scarves. Blankets and shawls are lovely too. Headbands don't love me, though. I always manage to look dumb in them. It must be my hair.   How do you feel about ghost stories? Do you like to tell the old tales around a campfire? Read true accounts on the web way past your bedtime? Do you like to pick up a good anthology of Poe stories on a blustery day? Or is all that too scary for you? I LOVE ghost stories. Love love love. Any way I can get them.   Any Gamers here? What kind? Board games? RPG? Miniature? MMORPG? Definitely. I'm a huge fan of survival horror games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Final Frame, etc and am obsessed with Final Fantasy. I play WoW (for those as care, my main is a level 80 Undead Warlock, Deadcam, on Shadow Council), and also love board games, puzzles, etc. I haven't played any LARPs in ages, but love them too.

SW Fall '09 questions part 1

As for Halloween/Autumn/scary movies: There aren't any Specifically Halloween or Autumn themes ones I can remember seeing. If my future witch would like to open my eyes to some I'd be more than happy. Scary movies in general I usually like. Horror movie scary or suspenseful scary, I like them both.   Roasted pumpkin seeds: Chex mix: need I say more?   What kinda socks are you wearing tonight?: well, now it's the morning and I just got up, so none! (*gasp* The horror!) But later when I head off for class I'll be wearing solid colored ankle socks probably.     Whats your favorite pie, my dear SW's?: Pumpkin without a doubt. Though I do make a mean apple pie if I do say so myself.   Do you like socks? Blankets? Wrist warmers? Arm warmers? Headband? Shawl? Or what kind of knitted thing would you love the most? Yes, yes, and more YES! to all of the above (except wrist warmers, I don't usually wear those.) I would feel so special if my witch were to send me something knitted.   How do you feel about ghost stories? Do you like to tell the old tales around a campfire? Read true accounts on the web way past your bedtime? Do you like to pick up a good anthology of Poe stories on a blustery day? Or is all that too scary for you? I love reading ghost stories and stories about hauntings, etc. They're just so intriguing.   Coffee or tea? Well, you see. I'm a HUUUGE coffee addict. I like regular coffee and flavors and all the frou-frou drinks... everything! As for tea, I don't drink it much but I do like it. Especially fruit flavors.   Olive oil/lavender: I don't really like the smell of either (except for the lavender in TKO)... So as good as fresh olive oil soap sounds I just don't think I could get over the way it smells.   Does anyone in here wear a lot of dangly earrings or collect pendants of all kinds?? How about hair clips or pony tail band things? I only wear dangly earrings for special occasions. But I do like and wear them. Usually I just keep small silver hoops in my ears unless it's for something special. I love to wear pendants and my hair's starting to get to the length where I can use ponytail holders again.   What other hot beverages everyone likes for fall? coffee and tea mostly. But also hot cocoa when I'm in the mood.   Did you order anything from the most recent update? I bought the 3 new forum onlys (which is a big order for me) but there are so many other tempting things. There a re a few of the new Hellboy scents that sound interesting and Detestable Putrescence sounds very good! I was tempted by the moon but I managed to talk myself down. Then there's the BPTP update! Knock-a-Dolly sounds too good to pass up. And I'm very tempted by the Pumpkin Pie bath oil even though I don't take baths! There are other uses, right... right?   Vampires or Werewolves? Or some other monster? Not so much into the vampires (unless they're of the Buffy and Angel variety ) Werewolves are more me I suppose.... Maybe something else? I can't think of any off the top of my head.   What sort of odd or regional foods do you crave? Hmm. Nothing comes to mind. Will update if that changes.   Any Gamers here? What kind? Board games? RPG? Miniature? MMORPG? I like playing board games with my family. Particularly Apples to Apples and Cranium and things like that. I used to play FFXI but when I realized that $12 a month was almost a full bottle of BPAL I stopped. I was never all that into it anyway.   Is anyone playing this round of SW into ABJ? (asian ball jointed dolls) not really   What is your favorite Halloween icon? I think my adorable pumpkin avatar is pretty cute. lol. I like jack'o'lanterns and bats best I suppose.   Imagine that you're given a shoebox-sized time capsule, and you are asked to put any number of items in the box that symbolize who you are. The items can be may be anything you can imagine, and money is no object, but they must fit within the box. Which items do you choose? Whhoooo, that's a tough question. Maybe some CDs of music I like and some of my favorite stones. A bunch of favorite books. An, of course, something having to do with BPAL and the forum. You all are a big part of my life. (That sounds kinda pathetic, huh? )

Strangler Fig

Rooty, woody, with deep green tones.

in the bottle: Thickly sweet with a green undertone. The sweetness reminds me of root beer.

on wet: Still sweet and thick. Mostly just sweet. The green note has disappeared.

drydown: Still sweet. A touch of powderiness.

one hour later: I really want to wash this off. There's a heady sensation that makes me think of walking into a too warm, enclosed space where there's a lot of greenery, like an orchid hothouse. I'm not saying it smells like orchids, just that I get a sensation of a scent that might be enjoyable if smelled faintly blowing on a breeze, but which is too much, almost claustrophobic, on. Makes me want to throw open the windows.

end of day: Didn't make it to the end of the day. Washed off.

compared to official description: I don't know what rooty smells like, unless you're referring to spices; though I did get a sense of rootbeerishness, so maybe there's a sassafras-like element here. Woody? I'm sure there's an element of that here, but it doesn't stand out. Mostly I get a powdery sweetish green. Heated, heady, thick.

notes: This had throw on me, in the worst possible way. Take that with a grain of salt: If it were a scent I enjoyed, I might not mind the throw so much (though I don't like throw in general).

Lagniappe. Definitely not one I would have thought of choosing myself. The dice didn't roll so well on this one.

sigh of relief

I got A's in both of my classes. Medical Terminology was a breeze but Excel had was much more of a challenge for me. And it stayed challenging, not just for a week or two, but for most of the quarter. But I did well, and got A's on both of my final exams. So, I'm off school for a week and just feeling like relaxing and celebrating. Not sure what I'll do specifically, but I might go to Columbus to visit my friend Kevin. I'm meeting my dad for lunch Tuesday and after that I'm free until Thursday night. Woo Hoo!   Next quarter will be strange......both of my classes are online, except one of them does meet in person for a total of three times. Other than that, it's all online. I have Medical Terminology II which, obviously, will be harder than Med Term I was. The other class is an Intro class for Health Information Management, which shouldn't be too hard, I don't think.
