Summer Switch Witch Condiment

***7/3-5*** Do you play any musical instruments? Which ones? If not, are there any you'd like to learn? What styles of music do you play, and are you interested in learning any different styles?   I have this quiet dull yearning to learn ocarina. Yes, because of Legend of Zelda.   Are you partial to any kind of comedy?   Dark comedy as can be found in Heathers and the like. Also absurdist comedy like from NewsRadio.   What did you do for the 4th and/or the holiday weekend?   I made hamburgers for the very first time and enjoyed a day off of work.   Partials, samples, sniffies?   Oh all the way!   Have you read anything by China Mieville, Neil Gaiman or Charles de Lint? If so, what? Like/dislike...?? I don't like de Lint at all. Neil Gaiman I've read a couple of things, but I would like more. His newest stuff I haven't even touched yet. I am unfamiliar with China Mieville.   Other than books/cds/dvds are there any "things" that you collect or symbols which you have an affinity for?   I think I already covered this on my survey, but I collect wigs in unnatural colors and anything to do with the television series Firefly or its corresponding feature film Serenity.   As far as a symbol? I'm still looking for one. Do you like musicals? What have you seen? What do you want to see? Any you'd like to own?   I like Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Buffy's Once More With Feeling and Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog. I also wonder if I would like Sweeney Todd, but I've never seen it.   What are your thoughts on J.R.R. Tolkein?   Is that spelled correctly? Anyway, I'm a sucker for anyone who makes up their own languages. I've only read part of the Lord of the Rings series though. I did see all the films, which I liked well enough.   If you answered that you would like recipes, are there any national or ethnic cuisines you prefer or don't prefer?   No recipes please, as I really cannot cook, but I do like Spanish cooking. If you find some inexpensive, but natural saffron, I'll be your slave!   What's your favorite summer activity?   Nightswimming! But I rarely get a chance to do so anymore. My gym used to have a 24 hour pool, one that was open outdoors in the summer. Now it's just open until midnight, which is too early for me (night owl here).   Would you like a recipe booklet (homemade) for homemade smoothies and shakes?   Please no! It would only be ignored or if I decided to chance it, 'twould only result in a mess in my kitchen and some inedible byproduct.   What's your favorite vacation spot?   Costa de Sol, Spain and the Yuba River.   Would you like anything nostalgic? Things you loved from their childhood or maybe things you've always loved that were from a time before your own?   Nostalgic? Well, I sort of wear fairy wings and play with face paint and read children's books, so I'm kind of caught in nostalgia either way. I do miss slap bracelets....   ***7/2*** What styles of jewelry do you like? Bold and funky? Delicate and dainty? Short necklaces, long ones, chokers? Bracelets or anklets?   I covered this in my survey, but to sum up: I like bold an funky and Kawaii-ish. Cutesy and brightly-coloured, and also elegant and dark and gothic. I like short necklaces or ones no longer than 18" (the chain at least). Chokers me likes. Bracelets and anklets, no!   Does my witchee like hats, a floppy summer sun hat or something more stylish? Would you like a hand knit cap or hat?   I love hats! Any kind except please no bonnet styles or a baseball caps. I already have a Jayne hat though. What kind of shopper are you? Do you make a budget? Planner, or compulsive? Do you like to buy what's new, special offers, only the usual?   I can never do a budget, but I am trying to plan and prioritize more. TMI: I went for several years rotating the same two bras (one black, one white) because I kept putting off buying new ones and instead, spent the money on hair accessories, cosmetics, and bath products. Luckily, I had some money recently and Victoria's Secret had a sale, so I landed three new pretties!   ***7/1*** Non-melting candies....what are your favorites?   Butterscotch hard candies and sour patch kids (those don't melt much, right?).   What are you happiest about (besides SW)? What makes you feel good this summer? Any summer?   I'm happy to have a roof over my head and cheesy television playing in my bedroom, and a cupboard of indulgent products, and LOADS OF BOOKS! Nothing in particular makes me feel good this summer, but I don't feel down either. I'm not a fan of the humidity, but fortunately, we haven't had too many unbearable days yet this season. Do you like coffee and/or wine?   Not really. I like the way coffee beans/grounds smell, however.   What are your thought on World Market?   Umm, the website? I like to browse it, sure. If you are a dog lover, or gigantic dog nerd like I am, would you like any breed-related items from this site? If so, which breed(s)?   I like canines well enough, but have never known any very well. I would like one someday, but not in the near future.   A witch wants to cheer you up. What are we cheering you up from? In other words, what are the most pressing problems you're facing right now?   General feelings of inadequacy and occasional frustrations with financial matters. Also, things at work have been really rough lately, on both a personal and professional level. But I have a good support system and I keep training myself on how to deal with life's little curve balls. Nothing of terrible calamity has happened to me nor mine recently, so I really can't complain too much.   Who out there is equally challenged and would appreciate icons/banners as witchy gifts?   Ooo. I'd be game. Something to do with Firefly or Tamora Pierce, or just something you think of now getting to know me from my survey. I have enough icons right now though, so no pressure. Just if you feel inspired.   Lip balm?   Not in a jar, but otherwise, yum, yum. Or something sparkly and spooky.   Are you freaking out over any of the discontinued scents, dear fellow Witches?   - Madrid - Succubus - Marianne   I won't be heartbroken if I cannot get them though... I have a feeling they'll be resold/swapped in the future.   For those candy loving witchees. Are there any 3 that u love and would like more of?   Mounds! Sweettarts. Sour strips.   And, are there any 3 that u just cannot stand and would not like any of?   No caramel please. And I'm not too keen on candy with nuts. Also, no grape.   Do you have an electric stove, and would you like a bowl and tarts to use the residual heat (and for extra safety)?   I have a gas stove. I already have a tart warmer, and plenty of tarts, so don't trouble yourself on that end. What is your favorite classic fairy tale or children's story ?   Probably the Maid Maleen. Sorry there are no paragraphs in that one, but I believe it's verbatim and the version I liked. I don't know why I liked this tale. Perhaps because of what she accomplished with her handmaid without any help. It's not a hugely inspiring or distinctive tale, but I liked it nonetheless.   What of the summer update (Egyptian, Lawn Ornaments, etc.) appeals most to you?   I'm so out of it, I haven't even checked it out yet! I find it all of interest.   ***6/28*** Which flavors are you interested to try from the Chocolate Research Facility?   Those with pepper and those with mixed fruits. Almost everything on their site, except for the coffee and alcohol ones.   Do you wear makeup or nail polish? Need brushes, containers, storage, mani/pedi supplies? What colors and brands do you like? I like bright colors and metallics, from cheap brands to OPI. Admittedly, I have tons of nail polish right now, and I fear I won't wear it all before it hardens with time. I love cosmetics and like cheap brushes (or fine paintbrushes you can purchase at art stores and they are much cheaper than cosmetic brushes). I love crazy bold and bright or dark eye shadow colors, any brand, although I'm a fan of small mineral makeup companies and Back to Earth on Etsy.   Do you like shiney hanging porch decorations like windchimes or those things that spin and swirl in the wind?   No thank you. Someday I'd want some, but as of now, my balcony is inaccessible.   Hair adornments?   I loved those little gems that had velcro on the back that you could just place in your hair. They were big in the late 90s/early 00s. I can't find them now.   Is there any infomercial product you're dying to try even though you know it probably sucks?   I already have a PedEgg, which I like. And Smooth Away only works on legs, no other area. I'm curious about cleaning and bonding products though, so if you have a free sample sitting about, I'd take it off your hands.     What are your favorite websites (besides this one, and the online shops you listed in your questionnaire)? www.bustedtees.com, and Anthropologie and Free People.   I love slaughtering time at websites like: www.fmylife.com and all the post secret communities. We have so many talented witches and they really need to promote themselves more so, if you made something by hand for a previous witchee or have an etsy store or some other outlet for hand made goods, will you post it here with pictures or links? Or, if you want to brag on a previous witch's talent, this is the place for that as well.   I can make nothing. Except sandwiches! But I'm curious now.   What would you think of soap samples/shampoo bar samples? (I believe the latter can be used as soap if you are not shampoo bar inclined). I have a lot of soap bars right now, so unless you think it's really good, I don't need more bars of soap, but other items, sample size is awesome because then I can transport it easily.   What about burnables as in candles, tarts and/or incense?   I'm good there. I don't need any of those.   Who knits? Do you also spin and dye? What supplies, that you wouldn't buy for yourself, would you just love to have for that activity?   I can do nothing with fiber arts. Hehe! I don't think i'd wear them though How did you get your forum name? One of my passions is growing antique roses. Alte Rosen means old roses in German which is my background & default second language. I came up with it to use on a gardening forum & then never joined. I thought it was applicable because I came to BPAL looking for a signature rose scent (though I very quickly found other goodies ) Anything from the trunk show? Good Judy: Pickled Punk

Pickled Punk Category: Curio Shop Quantity: sample   Description: PICKLED PUNK When two become one, what once was is now forever...only never to be. Ghastly to some. Fascinating to others. A medical marvel to all. This bicephalic form floats, peaceful, in a man-made womb with a view…perfectly preserved for your curiosity and pleasure. Tangerine, pink pepper, talc   Review:   In the bottle: A lovely, spicy tangerine. I doesn’t smell too fruity or too sweet, but not too spicy either; it’s well balanced.   Wet: It’s orange on my skin! I should have thought about it, it was orange in the bottle. The tangerine is juicy and fruity, but it’s mixed with a spice, and I’m not even sure it’s pepper. In fact, it smells like clove on me. It reminds me of those Christmas ornaments made of whole oranges picked with clove.   Dry: I finally get some of the talc, which separates the ingredients a little bit. Therefore, I can smell the pink pepper better, or at least for what it really is. However, there’s not enough tangerine left (at least in my opinion, and I love tangerine).   Verdict: I can see there’s an interesting concept behind this one, and the smell of it is also very interesting; but unfortunately, it’s not enough to convince me. It works fine as a gender-neutral blend, but it doesn’t suit my skin type very well, and it doesn’t last very long. Too bad.

Summer SW Questions 6/28

Which flavors are you interested to try from the Chocolate Research Facility?   Ooo, they have so many! I generally like chocolate with nuts and caramel, and especially marzipan.   Do you wear makeup or nail polish? Need brushes, containers, storage, mani/pedi supplies? What colors and brands do you like?   I don't wear makeup other than lip gloss, and my last SW stocked me up on that. I don't usually wear nail polish either since I have to wear gloves at work and wash my hands a million times a day... it doesn't hold up well.   Do you like shiney hanging porch decorations like windchimes or those things that spin and swirl in the wind?   I am sadly without a porch.   Hair adornments?   My hair doesn't really "do"... it's all slippery and doesn't like to stay in a style so the closest I get to an adornment is the occasional black elastic band holding it in a pony tail.   Is there any infomercial product you're dying to try even though you know it probably sucks?   Thankfully I've managed to avoid infomercials.   What are your favorite websites (besides this one, and the online shops you listed in your questionnaire)?   ravelry.com   We have so many talented witches and they really need to promote themselves more so, if you made something by hand for a previous witchee or have an etsy store or some other outlet for hand made goods, will you post it here with pictures or links? In fact, most of the things that are supposed to be funny aren't to me. I think I just have a very odd / dry sense of humor. Imp #22: Delphi   "The smoke of Sacred Incense of Apollo twined through laurel branches, bay, and honey wine."   Note: Very end of cycle. Imp from littleone101701's sales.   In the bottle: Laurel and bay with honey in the background. This is heady and a bit smokey.   On me: The honey steps up a little, and the scent is less green. The notes are more blended. It is becoming more like what I hoped for, but less incense than I expected. I had expected this to be the dark cave of the oracle, but it is the bright day on the field of Olympic competition.   1 hour+ later: Smokier, but still bright. Not much change from initial dry down. I think this will be a good scent to wear to work, as it is not as sultry as Athens.

Imp #21: Athens   "A reformulation and modernization of a true Classical Greek perfume, myrrhine: voluptuous myrrh, golden honey, red wine, and sweet flowers."   Note: Very end of cycle. Imp from littleone101701's sales.   In the bottle: Very sweet but also a tiny bit sour in a good way, like a Flemish sour, which happens to be one of my favorite styles of beer. There is something deep, but the honey jumps out at me, followed by the flowers, making this a bright scent.   On me: Out comes that sour that I like - the wine? -- and especially a spiciness -- myrrh?   1 hour+ later: Still spicy with a light sweetness and light floral. The floral notes remind me of Sea of Glass, but here they are accompanied by a spicy red wine. To me, this scent is a summer evening drinking red wine in the temple gardens.

Imp from fruitycake's sales.   In the bottle: The sandalwood and musk are strong, with an undercurrent of almond. It invokes a closed room with curtains drawn but fluttering and sandalwood burning in a brazier.   On me: The almond and jasmine come forward, blended together to create one scent that is both and neither. They do not step far forward, and are anchored by the woodiness of the oakmoss & sandalwood and the musk, like a girl dancing in the flickering light and obscuring smoke of the brazier.   1 hour+ later: I really like this. It is what I was hoping for from Scherezade.

An hedgehog in my garden

Last night, a friend of mine came, we walked around, had an ice cream, and when she was supposed to go home, we stood in the parking area and talked a lot. We noticed an hedgehog wandering in my garden: so cute! It's not really a garden, it's really unkempt and almost wild: but in spring it's covered with violets, and sprinkled with primroses. There are tits feeding on fir cones, and goldfinches on maple seeds, and sometimes a squirrel.

Still more questions answered for my Witch!

Questions by my witch (who has been very busy!):   Nail polish, yes or no? And if yes, what are your color preferences? Yes! Caramels and dusky pinks. Natural colours rather than bright ones, though.   Who is your favorite book character from a book? Oh, this is a tough one - there are so many! Um... Okay, I'll narrow it down to three:   1. Phedre no Delaunay from Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel sextet: sexy, sub, and strong, with a thirst for knowledge and the wisdom to know when to use it.   2. Esmay Suiza from Elizabeth Moon's Serrano Legacy series: competent, conservative, and clever - I love that she grows into herself through the course of the last four books of the series.   3. Mara of the Acoma from Janny Wurtz/Raymond E Feist's Daughter of the Empire series: intelligent, political, and innovative - taking her House from the verge of extinction to the highest honour in the Empire.   What is your biggest pet peeve? I have many. Uh, people who enter a debate, but don't bother running their posts through spellcheck. If you want people at a high standard to listen to your words, then you have to aim for their standard of writing and arguing. Someone might have an IQ of 163, but if they can't be bothered to use the basics of language and grammar in communication, then they might as well not be in the debate at all...   And the general ones!   Honey? Love it. All types and kinds. It would have to be vacuum-sealed though, and quite obviously clear, because I’m not sure if there are customs requirements that forbid honeys and stuff coming through to Australia.   Coffee? I do love coffee, but it would have to be pre-ground; we don’t have a grinder, and short of tipping a whole bag of beans into the hopper at work, there’s no point in me getting smaller bags.   Tarot art? Not really. The art might be interesting if it was in a style I liked - say, art nouveau - but divination is not my thing.   Is your abode a palace covered in fur, a disaster area, or a neat freaks delight? A disaster area. The fur is incidental. My kitty, she is tabby and each individual fur is striped black and white and brown. No matter what I wear, I’m fairly certain to be doomed to have fur show up on it...   Mailbox sitch? Uh, the way it works down here is that letters and most padded mailers go in the mailbox. If there’s a box that’s too big to fit in, then the local post office slips you a card to say, ‘come pick up your stuff’. If it’s a registered post, or something you have to sign for, then, again, the local post office slips you a card to say ‘come sign for your stuff’.   BPAL storage? I could do with a box to keep my bottles in! The GC imps I keep in a partitioned toolbox by alphabetical name, with separate ones for the LEs and rares. It doesn’t look very elegant, but it’s functional and easy to carry along to M’nSs!   I left my heart in... I've travelled a lot, but I've never left my heart anywhere. The cities of the world are great to visit and the wonders off the beaten track are beautiful to behold, but the only place that calls me back each time is home.   I’m always travelling - I love being free! And so I keep leaving the sun and the sea. But my heart lies waiting over the foam... I still call Australia home!

Summer SW Questions 6/25

Are you interested in Tarot or Tarot art?   I think some Tarot cards are pretty, but that's about it.   What would you think of soap samples/shampoo bar samples? (I believe the latter can be used as soap if you are not shampoo bar inclined). Or other sample sized bath/beauty products, for that matter?   I rarely use bar soap and I'm not really a fan of solid shampoo.   What about burnables as in candles, tarts and/or incense?   I am a fan of scented or beeswax candles, but I have quite a few.   Who knits? Do you also spin and dye? What supplies, that you wouldn't buy for yourself, would you just love to have for that activity?   I knit and spin and occasionally dye. I think I have all of the supplies I need - I've been a bit indulgent lately. But if my witch is dying to get me something knit-spin related I wouldn't mind a pretty orifice hool / WPI tool for spinning. Otherwise I'm really doing just fine.   Do you like coffee? Whole bean or ground? Bold/Medium/Mild roast?   I only drink coffee-flavored beverages, like mochas and such, and I don't make coffee at home.   So you have enough socks and wraps... (shush, VCW!) Are there any other knitted goods you might like? Lap blanket? Fingerless gloves? Arm warmers? Little knitted animals? Silk scarf? Head band? Wrist cuff? Dish clothes?   I'd appreciate any knitting gift, though I think knitted dish cloths are just too pretty to use. Knitted animals would be cute!     Are you obsessed with honey? Honey: well honey and i have a love hate thing. I really love sweet rich flower honeys liek cloer and apple. But they do weird thigns to my sugar. I do a seriously manic buzz then i colapse into an almsot coma state where i am Unable to wake up. It scares the hubby when even pinching me dosn't wake me, so i don't eat much honey.     Is there anything you've been wanting to learn that your witch might be able to help you with? As i said i would lvoe to learn hand quilting and would be willigbn to TRY easy knitting.   Do you like coffee? Whole bean or ground? Witch/Swap help!

For Witches, Sneaky Swap Fairies, and on the off-chance someone is looking for a gift for me!   cosmetics, scents, creams, and unguents   I am actually a very non-cosmetic person. BPAL is an addiction as much for the community and fun of it as it is for the lovely scents.   That said, I do love scented/oiled bath bombs and will use them quite happily. Hand- and foot-creams likewise, but I always forget about body butters.   My adored BPAL scents tend to be the expensive and rare ones, alas! However, some of my GC favourites include Persephone, Centzon Totochin, Bon Vivant, Salon II: Arrival At The Sabbath, and Whip. My Carnivale Diabolique favourites so far are Ashultum, Inez, Wulric Wolfman, and Priala The Human Phoenix.     crafty things   I would love knitted socks if you're a knitting kind of person. I would adore spun wool if you're a spinning kind of person. I do some quilting, mostly for friends and family - weddings and significant birthdays. I have a Dollfie, but she sits on the shelf and gets little-to-no love from me. I have a plethora of ponies (My Little Ponies) that I've always planned to do up, but have never actually worked on.   Card-making, ATCs, and scrapbooking are things I enjoy doing, but don't actually do that much of. I ought to work more on it...in all the free time I don't have!     books, reading, writing, art   I do a fair amount of reading - mostly fantasy, sci-fi, and romance, although I’m also a sucker for a good mystery. I write a little - mostly fanfiction, although I've written some spec fic pieces before. If you write fanfiction, I would adore, pimp, and bless you for years for an action-adventure/drama Stargate Atlantis fic about John Sheppard and Teyla Emmagan.   Art is a subjective thing, but I love a whole bunch of types and kinds, from the beautifully detailed paintings of the Romantics, to the fluid lines of Art Nouveau furniture and jewellery, to the lovely clean lines of cartoons, comics, and anime/manga.     In the end, though, I'm reasonably 'mainstream' in my interests, so you shouldn't have trouble finding anything for me! I'm easy, honestly!

***6/19*** For non-US witches: is there anything from the US you'd love that you can't get where you live now? N/A: US witchee.   How many potential witchees have an iPod, or download MP3s? I have an iPod nano that’s nearly three years old, but still ticking (knock on wood)! Plus ridiculous amounts of music in iTunes. So, in short, yes to both.     ***6/20-21*** Are there any single notes (likely non bpal) that anyone is dying to have/try? I’d be interested in sniffies of pretty much any single note, for purposes of educating my nose. For wearable purposes, I think I’d like incensy stuff (I adore the new Strawberry Moon, but I think I might like it even better with a hint of incense added), clove, and maybe carnation?   net flick or the likes gift subscriptions? A month of Netflicks vs a DVD? I’ve already got Netflix, but I’m always game for suggestions of things I really must add to the queue, anything from episodes of MST3K I haven’t yet seen to documentaries I really need to check out.   Adorable Japanese characters? SW, SW, SW!

Adding some questions for my SW's illumination (or overwhelmation....oh, shoot, that isn't a word! )   ***6/29*** Do you like coconut? yeah, but I like coconut milk/cream mostly, and probably am not crazy about coconut unless it is simply an ingredient in something else. Puddin' posts ebay sales of older stuff every now and then - what of the current lot are you dying for? Nuttin'. I've pretty much tried and passed on anything I would want from that list. Do you tweet? Nope What kind of mythology are you interested in? All kinds, but especially African, Celtic, Native American, Japanese. But really, it all intrigues me, except that while I'm not against Egyptian, I'm also not terribly compelled by it, and the same is true of Classic Greek/Roman....I mean, I know it fairly well, am conversant in how it shows up in literature, but it doesn't really speak to me. ***6/28***   Do you wear makeup or nail polish? Need brushes, containers, storage, mani/pedi supplies? What colors and brands do you like? I don't wear much makeup (but am still fascinated by mineral makeup esp. eyeshadow. I desperately need brushes. I LOVE nailpolish, though I mostly just do my toes, with occasional forays into fingernails. I like reds with blue undertones, purples, gold/bronze, black, sparkly stuff in all fun colors, though I tend to go for pink/red/orange on the toenails (I'm WAY more adventurous on the toenails....on the fingernails I pretty much stick to cool (ie winter/blue undertones) which I know will look ok with my skintone.   Do you like shiney hanging porch decorations like windchimes or those things that spin and swirl in the wind? I don't really like flavored coffees except will drink vanilla/chocolate or cinnamon on occasion (and right now I am on a cinnamon kick which means putting a stick in the brew thingy) I like Indonesian (batak esp. which comes from Lake Toba which is a beautiful place I have very fond memories of) and Guatemalan esp (though the neither is that bold). I mostly drink french roast or italian roast though.

Who knits? Do you also spin and dye? What supplies, that you wouldn't buy for yourself, would you just love to have for that activity? I knit a little bit - haven't had time to sit down and do it for a while. Never tried spinning and dyeing, though...   Do you like coffee? Whole bean or ground? Bold/Medium/Mild roast? Summer 2009 Switch Witch questions

Are there any single notes (likely non bpal) that anyone is dying to have/try? Hm. I dunno. Dried grass or something? Redwood would also be pretty awesome. But yeah, I am only thinking of this because the question was posed, not because I am dying to try such things.   net flick or the likes gift subscriptions? A month of Netflicks vs a DvD? DVDs are probably better, since I can watch them whenever I want and not worry about paying monthly fees. My available time for watching of things is pretty sporadic, and does not lend itself to any sort of monthly subscription format.   Adorable Japanese characters? Not so much.   My fiance sent me an early dvd rip of Coraline that he was given (pretty sure it's not been released yet, but I sometimes have a hard time keeping up) and I was wondering if anyone would like a copy of it? Coraline for the WIN. (Meaning, absolutely!)   Do you collect dolls or miniatures? What kind? Do you like to get new clothes or items for them? I don't collect these.   If you were to make a seasonal mix CD for this summer, what would you name it? Another title question! I suck at titles for things! It would probably be something like, "Random Crap, Summer 2009." Or possibly, "Sierras Road Trip Soundtrack." Yay road trip!   Would you like any recycle/upcycle supplies for your crafting? Most of the crafting I do involves markers, which are not the most recyclable thing ever. Secondhand is fine, though, providing they still work or are refillable! Recycled paper also makes for very interesting drawing surfaces.   Is there a program you might have missed or show you love which is gone from the airwaves which might be found (or burned) for you by a Witch? You know what would be awesome? "Gargoyles." Oh man did I love that show. I hope it would still seem awesome now as it did when I was twelve, though. Also, it would win to watch "Animaniacs," "Pinky and the Brain," or "Histeria" again.   Do you play any online games, like World of Warcraft? If so, what server do you play on, what's your character's name, etc.? I have not yet been sucked into such things. I used to play a lot of online text-based RPGs, though, but I haven't had time for them lately.   Would anyone like bath bombs or bath melts scented with one of their favorite Bpal scents? On principle, this is cool, but in practice, I only ever take showers. These things would likely not be used. Bar soap, however, would definitely be used.   Would you like homemade cinnamon buns or sticky buns? YESSSS. Though I will remind that I live in inland southern California, where it is freaking hot. They might melt. Not that melty is a bad thing! Just saying.   Is there anyone here that likes Hello Kitty or any other Sanrio Characters? Hello Kitty actually kind of creeps me out.   Any non NZ or Aus witchee that I get gets Tim Tams, OK? Very much ok! I have heard much about the legendary Tim Tam, but have not yet experienced its glory for myself.   For non-US witches: is there anything from the US you'd love that you can't get where you live now? I am in the US! Though if anyone's Witchee wants something southern California-specific, let me know. I can try to hunt it down.   How many potential witchees have an iPod, or download MP3s? I have a 16GB iPod Touch, and I love it. It goes everywhere with me. It currently contains a weird mix of western art music, bluegrass, Javanese gamelan, Broadway soundtracks, Scandinavian folk music, Weird Al, miscellaneous '60s rock, and songs about earthquakes.   Are there any of the BPTP bath oils you adore (particularly ones that you cannot get anymore). What about the room sprays? I'm not really interested in the bath oils, because I take showers rather than baths. My only experience with the room sprays have been goblin squirts of Revenge and Great Dismal Swamp, both of which I like.   How would you feel about an ultra-girlie shawl or wrap in summer-weight (lace)? No thanks. No drag for me!   What would you think of hand-dyed items? That would be super cool.   So, I hear you don't like lacy wraps! How do you feel about hand-knit socks? Hooray socks! Though, again with the reminder that I live in inland southern California, lightweight socks would be better. My feet might implode in heavy wool socks or something.   What kinds of crafts does everyone either enjoy making or enjoy getting? Do you have a certain type of handmade item that you love to collect? Socks, boxes, jewelry, dolls etc? My craftiness mostly focuses either on drawings (which I mostly do in marker, and sometimes with watercolor) or on decorating t-shirts. My Witchee will probably receive something handmade along these lines! As for what I'd like to receive, there is nothing in particular that I collect, but I would be totally thrilled with any craft a Witch might make with me specifically in mind.   Clearly, vegans are not into soaps with honey or milk, etc. But, if you're NOT a vegan how would you feel about soaps made with emu oil? Squicked out/concerned about animal cruelty, or willing to try them? I am totally not squicked. In fact, I would be really amused to tell people that I had EMU SOAP, just because it sounds pretty bizarre.   Based on Prior Carnivale act prototypes...which one are you truly excited about? How do you feel about it? Tea is a wondrous thing.   Posters, yes or no? I don't have huge amounts of wallspace, but what I do have is largely undecorated. I currently have a few photos of landscapes (mostly photos I took), a huge fault map of California, and an incredible aerial photo of 1906 San Francisco. I also have a huge awesome Mt.St. Helens photo I need to hang. So maybe there is more occupied wallspace than I realized. So, uh, maybe smaller pictures instead of big posters.   What are your favorite animals? Or, what animals resonate strongly with you? I love cats (obviously, since I have two of the little fuzzmonsters (except mine aren't really that little)), both wild and domestic. In terms of big cats, I guess I'm a particular fan of cheetahs and clouded leopards. I also love dogs, particularly the big friendly ones. I've also always loved foxes, of all species and colors. I have a particular soft spot for otters and pine martens, too.   Are there any historical figures you are particularly interested in - say, that you'd enjoy reading about, or movies, etc.? Hrmmm. Are we allowed musicians? If so, then definitely Dmitri Shostakovich and Gustav Mahler. (Please no sending of that Ken Russel Mahler movie, though! Creepyfreakyweird.) As for non musicians, King Ludwig II of Bavaria's interesting. Also, I'm developing a definite fondness for the fit of weird that was Emperor Norton I of the United States. Stonewall Jackson's also fascinating, not because I sympathize with him, but because he was so incredibly strange. As for historical periods, the turn of the 20th century fascinates me. Plus, a surprising number of my interests (not just earthquakes!) converge upon the year 1906, or its close neighbors.   What, if anything, are you earwormed with right now? Amazingly, nothing. Probably because I've been sitting in conference sessions all day.   What scent are you wearing right now, if any? This has been a BPAL-free conference, mainly because I didn't want to fly with any oils. I had a carry-on only, and didn't feel like putting odd vials in my plastic baggie-o-liquids. That said, if I had brought stuff, I probably would have brought various dirt scents. It's a geology conference, after all! Also, would have brought Coyote, since it's kind of my standby favorite.   Anyone reading an amazing book right now? I'm currently reading Mike Davis' Ecology Of Fear: Los Angeles and the Imagination of Disaster, which is a study of all the ways LA is environmentally screwed, and the cultural reactions to those things. It is fascinating, though a bit unsettling for someone who technically lives in the LA basin.   What socially respsonsible site would you recommend to ALL Witches? I'll have to reiterate aspca.org. I could also link to a bunch of disaster preparedness sites, which is a cause I find important, but I don't know if that's quite what this question means.   What is your favorite anime, or if you don't like that what is your favorite animated series? I've never really watched anime. As for general animated series, I'm a big fan of Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, and Histeria.   Do you like villians that are funny because they are meant to be, or are you like me and love the villian that just can't seem to get his evil schemes to work? Both! I appreciate comic villains of all forms. Including the form where the movie is supposed to be good and the villain is supposed to be sinister, but everything is actually so bad that it's hilarious.   Chips? I am not a big fan of regular potato chips, though I am incredibly intrigued by those Thai Kettle Chips you all keep mentioning in this thread. (Actually, Kettle Chips in general are something of an exception to the rule. Nom.)   Beer? My first ever time drinking beer was in Munich, so I might perhaps be slightly spoiled. That said, wheat beers/hefeweizens are my favorites in general (my favorite in Munich was Franziskaner Weißbier). Drop Top and Fat Tire are also something of agreed-upon group favorites among the UCR geology department. Have generally had favorable impressions of pale ales, too.   Are you obsessed with honey? If so, is there a particular kind you like best? Spun honey, flavored honeys, certain types of honey.... etc. Honey is awesome! I like trying different kinds of it; when I do buy it, I tend to not get the same kind twice in a row. I recently had avocado honey, and it was delicious. Local, too! (This is, actually, possibly something I could get for people, but it depends on what's going on at the farmers' market that week. The honey cart is not always there.) Those flavored honey sticks are also kind of addictive.   Book collecting? I don't collect for the sake of having, generally, but absolutely for the sake of reading! I've lately been accumulating print material about the 1906 earthquake, some of it dating from that year. It's so interesting to see how scientific thought and social perception on that event has changed over time. I also have a good number of graphic novels, though I tend to keep up with buying the TPBs shortly after they come out.

Switch Witch - "Summer" 2009 - questionnaires 2

Beer? Not so much. Microbrews, etc. = interesting, but small amounts. I'm more of a wine/spirits girl.   Actually, I'm more of a tea girl. Hot and strong, with plenty of milk and sugar! (And sometimes a dash of cream.) I kinda hope I get a witchee who likes hot tea!   Favourite animals? Cats and felines, generally.   Historical Art Styles? Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Steampunk, illuminated manuscripts of the Mediaeval times, Egyptian images/heiroglyphs, and Chinese scrolls.   Scent currently wearing? I tried Baghdad this morning, but didn't like the muskiness. So I dabbed on some Butter Rum Cookie, and now I smell like boozy bakehouse. Mmm...   Book collections? Cookbooks, definitely. Other than that...only the occasional cloth-covered book of poetry, prose, or 'wisdom'. And what I want to read, of course.   Chips? Kettle chips (as a type, not the brand) - I like flavours such as 'sour cream and chilli' or 'sweet onion' or 'honey soy' - but plain is good, too!   Posters: Would be lovely! Nature or art, large or small - whatever suits your fancy and I'll find somewhere to put it up! Hey, we have Nat'l Geog posters up on our walls, so anything goes in our house!   Wood: Anything natural, polished, or oiled. I love all types and kinds of wood-crafting.
