12 Days Help

Lush: never tried any, I don't have a shower.   Fruitcake: willing to try home-made, but not storebought.   Recipes: LOVE recipes.   Baked goods/candies: caramels, brittles, I like stuff. Not a peanut butter fan.   Stuffed Monsters dollies: sounds damned cute!   How do you feel about mini handmade art projects? Love them! Anyone that takes the time to make something homemade is awesome!   Kitty toys: no kitty, have a fat dog. she likes treats, and is a big doggy who gobbles stuff. Things like little rawhides wouldn't be good. Big treats for a big girl.   If you expressed an openness to candles and/or room scent thingies, would you be okay with something that smells like winter holiday spices, baked goods, and greenery-- even if it says 'Autumn'? wouldn't bother me any!   On the slightly off chance that I manage to make a Sinterklaas run before the mailing deadline, are there any Dutch/Indonesian food items you might be interested in? sure! I like trying new things!   Are there any books you've been meaning to read but just never get the chance to? I was a bad girl, and just ordered Dust in the Wind. Books of outhouses would be great, or gardening books.   Anything you're particularly wanting from the Lab/Post at the moment? How about GCs you keep meaning to get but never get around to? It's a blend of salty/sweet/savory and crunchy and I love it...but it's a bit expensive and labor intensive to make if it won't be met with enthusiasm. You can also opt for a "sample" size with the recipe, since I'll likely make one batch for home eating anyway. yes, if I don't like it, someone else will   Are there any subscriptions/gift cards you would be interested in? itunes, barnes and nobles, any food, coffee houses.   Would you like anything from Cocoa Pink? sure, I don't know what that is, but I'm sure I want it.   Let's talk about stationery. Say, I just finished reading something that looks to be something you would love based on your stated preferences, but it is book 2 (or 20) in a series? I wouldn't care!   Gift certs? yes   Do any of the Red Cross Fundraiser scents interest you? I haven't looked at them, I probably would like the atmosphere spray with patchouli in it.   Are there any Yule type scents you like or don't like? Like do you generally avoid fir or evergreen scents? Or only like them in some things? Or in do you love candy cane scents? Etc. like evergreen, not the candy cane ones so much. I like most, nothing really sweet though.   Also, would you be interested in made just for you products like hand cream or salves, or.....? (I have just finished taking an herbalism class and am on a roll with making herbal things....) that would be cool!   What would be the one thing you could receive that would put the biggest smile on your face? An ornament, a candle, some type of food, perfume, a book, anything? anything! I like it all

This has always been one of my top favourite scents, and I got a bottle unsniffed after being away from the sweet, sweet crack BPAL for the past several years -- and it didn't disappoint. In the bottle, yes, this smells very sharp and wine-y, but on my skin, the wine keeps the honey from being too sweet, the honey tones down the sharpness and booziness of the wine, and the myrrh adds a great spice note. (Husband: "It smells kind of like spices....Christmas spices....and flowers?" Heh.) I don't get much floral, but that's okay. I don't so much smell individual notes as a great musky, almost dark but sweet, v complex scent. It's rich without being foodie. For me, this is a very comforting, relaxing perfume; not a go-out-and-party scent, or a go-out-to-work scent, but a stay-home-and-dream scent. I really slather it on, and it has good throw and lasts a long time -- and my skin EATS perfume. It's almost something more private that I wear mostly at home, just for me; it's intimate. Rocza's "end-of-a-cozy-candlelit-dinner-party-with-wine impression" (previous page) is just about perfect.   Source: Athens

From: Poisoned Apple

I already really wanted to try this, given the name and the concept, and then got a frimp from the Lab with my latest order. Yay!   In the bottle: BAM the apple knocks you on the head, like Newton. No kidding, I couldn't smell anything but apple for a couple of minutes! This really does smell exactly like a crisp ripe juicy sweet apple. Wow. Seemed more red than green to me, but tart. It's absolutely Essence of Apple. That's impressive.   Wet: On my skin this changes almost instantly into something else -- darker, more floral. It also gets a LOT fainter, even though I slathered it on. The apple note stays on top, but the other notes are getting stronger.   Drydown: There was a sort of alternation from sweet apple to the darker, muskier scent. The apple note still smelled great, but I didn't like the "poison" notes, and on me the two didn't really blend -- separate halves of the apple indeed! Then the apple went away completely and I was left with this faint, complex, dark musky scent that weirdly had an undertone of powder. After an hour all I had was the faint powder, and even that faded away -- almost no staying power on me.   Verdict: Loved smelling the APPLE! in the imp, and I liked the switching from apple to poison and back again, but I didn't like the musk or the powder (think that was the opium and oleander). Great idea, great execution, but the final scent is too faint and flowery and goes pouf.   I saw a lot of people comparing this to Hesperides, which is one of my all-time faves -- to me that scent was a lot heavier and sweeter. I'll try this again and see if it lasts longer (and maybe skip sniffing the imp), but it burns out so fast on me I doubt I'll buy it. I might try putting it in a scent locket to see if I can get that great apple note to last (a girl needs an excuse for an $80 scent locket, right?).   Source: Poisoned Apple

I grew up in Santa Fe and our neighbour had a huge gorgeous lilac bush -- more like a wall of greenery and flowers -- and there were lilacs all over the city, so they really mean spring and happiness to me. Seattle has lots of lilacs too -- it might be my favourite flower to smell.   IN THE BOTTLE: Ohghod it was v green and sharp. I thought this was maybe another Two, Five, and Seven disaster where I just got blaring green and no florals at all! But, it was a bit more flowery than that (thank God). Even then, this scent had a certain something to it that drew me in.   WET: Still pretty sharp and green, but it settled down right away to a floral. As other people said, this really smells like actual fresh flowers -- not "perfumy" or soapy. There's some delicious note in there -- wood? musk? -- that seemed to be calming the green down. Usually I don't like the sort of high white sharp smells, especially with lots of grass, but this is converting me.   DRYDOWN: The lilac comes out more -- I was impatient for it! This has more staying power than I'd expect from such a light floral, and thankfully after a few hours the greens die way down and the musk comes out more. It's still pretty bright, but not in an unpleasant way. Nowhere near as sweet as actual lilacs, but that might be the green on my skin: for some reason it drowns out EVERYTHING else.   VERDICT: This kind of pretty gentle feminine floral is usually so not my thing, but it's delicate without fading, gentle yet strong, and is really sort of enchanting. It's definitely a wet, green, fresh flowery scent, like taking a walk in the Unicorn's wood after a spring rain. I find it energizing and clean -- it'd be a good morning perfume. Doubt I'll buy a bottle, but my skin usually amps grass LIKE WHOAH, and the sharp-but-delicate floral scents tend to give me headaches, so I'm delighted to find a grassy floral I can actually wear.   I agree that an aged bottle of this might be really beautiful -- one might be worth buying for that alone, to see what it turns into in a year or two. If it was just a bit more flowery/sweet I might get a bottle.   Source: The Lilac Wood

From: Two, Five & Seven

Oh dear, I really don't know what happened. I love roses, but couldn't smell them at all in the bottle - just that very sharp wet green vinegary smell a few other unlucky people got. (Which didn't smell at all like grass to me - but a very strong chemical kind of scent, like fake pine.) Wet, still all I got was the sharp grass. Then that started fading out, and I got....soap. A very nice kind of fancy soap, but not really roses. Finally in drydown all I had was soap, but that disappeared very quickly! Especially considering the amount I'd put on. Really no sweetness at all, just sharp green and then sharp soap. I'm baffled. After several hours I did get a little more of a rose scent, but it was quite faint, and sort of light and astringent. It was still more like very nice soap, or very nice bath-powder, rather than flowers. I doubt I'll be buying this again, since those sort of very light sharp astringent scents tend to give me headaches.   Source: Two, Five & Seven

Switch Witch Fall 2012 Questions October 4-

Questions and answers from October 4 on.   What do you think of Shiro Cosmetics Halloween Collection? (www.shirocosmetics.com) Pumpkin King looks lovely, and although I'm not usually a fan of lip glosses or doefoot applicators, I have to say that This Is Halloween looks very tempting!   The Godiva Halloween Collection? The Halloween pretzels and the assorted chocolates both look yummy!   Would you be interested in comic books and if so what ones do you read or what genre of comics are you interested in Oh, yes! I used to read the Punisher comics regularly, but haven’t lately. I’d be really happy to get some new ones and start to catch up again! Besides the Punisher, I really enjoy comics with female leads, like Magdalena, Vampi, and Witchblade. I read a one-off Punisher/Painkiller Jane cross-over once, and I watched the Painkiller Jane tv show when it was on, so I’d be quite interested in reading some more Painkiller Jane stuff. Horror/supernatural comics would also be cool - things like the old Tales from the Crypt are great! Or just surprise me! And if you have a favourite that you'd like to share, I'd love to give it a try! You really can't go very wrong with comic books!   WITCHEE, DO YOU WANT ANYTHING FROM CALIFORNIA? Nothing that I can think of!   IngenuiTEAs? Looks cool, but I probably don’t need one.   Honeycrisp "Apple Crips" (Dried honeycrisp apples, nothing added.) DO YOU WANT SOME WITCHEE????? Sounds yummy!   Design a tea? I already have so very much tea….   FusionSweets? (etsy) I love caramels, and I wouldn’t mind trying some marshmallows. The Spanish style hot chocolate sounds lovely. Caramel flavours that sound most yummy are: Belgian Dark Chocolate; Belgian Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt; Sweet and Creamy Vanilla; French Sea Salt; and Masala Chai. Lemon ginger; Maple syrup; and Rose, Orange Blossom, Vanilla also sound interesting. Most tempting marshmallow flavours are: Grasshopper (Mint Chocolate Swirl) and Chocolate Orange.   Poe Day? Dark Del merch in general? I got decants of all of those before, I think, and to my great disappointment, none of them really worked on me.   Kombucha? I’ve never had it, but have been interested in trying it some day. I wouldn’t mind trying my hand at making my own, if it really is easy to do!   Are you dressing up for Halloween, Witchee? If so, is there anything you're looking for to complete your costume? Probably not. I’ll just be at home passing out candy. I might throw on a vampire cape just for fun, but that and black nail polish will probably be the extent of my “dressing up.”   Do you need any accessories for your smartphone (case, skin, etc)? I don't have a smartphone.

12 Days of Delight

Posting Question answers here now, so that they can be centrally located-- and so I can ramble all I want. *mwa ha ha* I'll repeat all the questions. The answers may vary from before. They will likely be even longer. It will be a surprise!   Lush: is awesome. Sandstone soap is probably my currently available favorite, but there are lots of other things I love there. Even SLS inclusive things from there would get love here(much to my skin's unhappiness). Fruitcake: I like homemade fruitcake. We used to make huge batches when I was little. There was very little cake, and mostly nuts and fruits, with a bit of port(?). I'd love to try anyone's homemade fruitcake.   Recipes: I love them. I don't always follow them, but that does not make them any less awesome.   Baked goods: I would have them as a food staple, if I didn't have to deal with the health fallout. I love all the baked goods! Baked goods will be warmly received and quickly eaten. I especially like cookies, and bayou brownies-- we sadly lost the best bayou brownie recipe on earth a looooong time ago in moving, and have been striving to find one as awesome since.   Candies: I like candy. I'm especially fond of gummies and black licorice. Chocolate is always awesome. For homemade candies, fudge and caramel are big winners(if you can make anything beyond that, you are my hero. I tried making taffy once, and ended up with burned hands and blue corkscrew hardcandy. It tasted good, though).   Stuffed Monsters dollies: Are adorable. I went to LadyWench's Etsy store, and those little guys are awesome.   How do you feel about mini handmade art projects? I feel that they are awesome.   Kitty toys: My cats like toys. My cats like catnip. My cats have a habit of destroying anything from the petstore made of fabric or furry stuff. Seriously. They take out shoes. I am. Christmas tree is one of my favorite smells. I must say(since I was the one that asked), I bought one of the candles in question, to test just how winter it is, and it is fabulously winter. I will likely buy one for my Delightee. Which is good, because all of the 'Christmas' candles out so far are not that awesome-- with the exception of the Yankee Candle Spice Cake. I'm currently working my way through the last four years of Xanth, catching up on the 'Naked' regency series, a Llewellyn's magical almanac that my sister gifted me last year(it has a dragon on it), and I would be reading a biography of Agatha Christie-- except that I've misplaced it. Books I don't already have that I have been staring at longingly: Angela Carter's Nights at the circus,The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern-- which I have been wanting to read since before it was even out, but somehow haven't gotten, and Palace of Illusions by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. There are a bunch more more my amazon list, but those three sprang to mind.     Anything you're particularly wanting from the Lab/Post at the moment? My wishlist is pretty up-to-date. I will probably buy Witch Dance, Goldenrod Crab Spider, and Tears of Lilith before they come down, but anything on my list would be awesome.   From the Post, I'v been eyeing Spider Silk bath oil and Torn Candy Bag. I was looking at the Dead Leaves and Desolation candle, but I think I may have talked myself down. When/If the Goldfish Pool locket comes back, I may splurge on getting it.   How about GCs you keep meaning to get but never get around to? I like a lot of fandoms for their own sake, just because of the hilarious crack they come up with sometimes. There are a lot of anime, manga, book, and TV series that I really enjoy. But I am seriously easy to please. I'm assuming that red sauce is made from tomatoes, though, and that would not be my friend, at all. however, if you'd already gotten it, or anything similar, there are other people here who would probably be thrilled if I made them dinner with homemade(and no doubt delicious) sauce.   Anything you might like from Bath&Body Works? Sinful Vanilla, or any vanilla from there, I think? Lemon, berry, sugarplum, mint, scented things; candles, sweet cinnamon pumpkin and such, and fun-named pocket bacs. I take them when I go teach(some people just don't wash their hands...)and the kids love the funky ones. No soaps or shower gels, please, as they are not my friend. Hand soap, though, is A-OK, as my hands are constantly getting harshed anyway, poor things.   Would you be interested in short mead packets from Ambrosia Farms? No, thank you. If you wanted to send yeast and your own recipe that would be cool, though.   Would you like cookie cutters? Sure! Preferrably metal ones, for durability, but any kind of shapes, especially fancy of unusual-- or really tiny. Or those strange ones that cut out a shape in the middle of the top of sandwich type cookies.   Would you like local honey or other localish products available via my local farmer's market? Yes, I would, especially the honeys that the bees went to a certain kind of plant or plant collection, like Marin Wildflower honey, or Eucalyptus honey, or that kind of thing. Tell me how you really feel about fruitcake. Cautiously interested in a quality, home-made fruitcake. Standard commercial ones, no, thank you.   I live near a Lush store. Is there anything you want/need/want to try? I was just in a Lush store last week and wasn't tempted by anything.   Would you be interested in recipes? Either hand written or photo-copied in a binder? Yes, I would be interested.   Homemade candy and baked goods...list some that you like, and also kinds of flavors. FUDGE! Probably most types of candy bark. Seven-layer cookies. Classic Toll House cookies (real butter, real vanilla, real chocolate). The caveat on baked goods (more so than for candy) would be the lag time between shipping and when the package will be opened. Flavors: fruits, chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, molasses.   Also list homemade goodies youwould secretly give away or toss in the trash if you received... I already mentioned my loathing of licorice or anything like it on my questionnaire (so no springerle, please). How do *you* feel about paper, envelopes, notecards, pens/pencils, stickers, etc? Do you have a favorite symbol or characters you like to have writing implements of? What about journals??? Since I never write letters, stationery in the sense of letter paper and envelopes would probably go unused. (Although I do adore those very stiff correspondence cards and envelopes produced by Crane Stationery in all those pretty color combinations.) I do use notepads and Post-It notes quite a bit. I think I already mentioned my weakness for fancy pens along the lines of colored gel pens, metallic ink pens, etc. (Then there's my fondness for really fancy, expensive pens, but that's definitely out of range for this swap!)   Boxes: do you like to keep pretty gift boxes, or are they just clutter? Yes and yes. As in, I like pretty gift boxes, but please don't go to expense or effort with them. Any small things you need? I think I mentioned some on the questionnaire. I'll keep thinking.   Do you like knitwear? Yes! Just about anything except hats (I don't like getting hat hair and they generally aren't necessary in Florida, anyway). For colors, see my questionnaire.   Nail polish, yay or nay? What colors if yay? I love looking at all the pretty colors, but I never seem to get around to actually applying nail polish to my nails.   Would you like hand dyed things, particularly scarves? What colors are you most interested in? YES!!! Jewel tones and other colors as listed on my questionnaire. Nothing too harsh in the way of colors; I'd describe the ones I like as either "clear" or "muted". If you like card games (ones that use things other than regular playing cards), what kinds do you want/need? I don't really have any "wants" in this area. Now a question from me: As most of you know, I am the forum dealer for wild rice, maple syrup and red sauce, would you like to receive any and or all of these in your package? Yes! Send me twelve days' worth of wild rice and maple syrup and I'd be quite happy. A little red sauce for variety might be nice. Is there anything you might like from Bath & Body Works? Candles, lotions, shower gels and the like? No, not really. Do any of these mead kits interest anyone? No, thank you. I don't think I'd get around to actually making the mead.   Also, cookie cutters! One of the stores near me has eclectic cutters - would this be something that interests you? Probably not. It's once again something that I probably wouldn't get around to doing. For that matter, how about infused salts (there's an amazing basalmic salt that a local place does) or vinegars or spice/seasoning packets? At least those are the first to come to mind. Maybe I should have included blueberry? It seems that I am....... An emoticon abuser.   EVERY FARKING TIME I try and send a ?aire in for something it REJECTS me because I've used too many emoticons. I'm assuming it's like having a virtual-stutter. Only I instead of typing "um."   Is it MY FAULT that emoticons are one of the biggest helps to sussing out the mood of intent behind comments made entirely of text? Is it MY FAULT that I pepper them throughout everything I write, so much so, that apparently I can't keep under the limit of this forum??!??   Don't answer that.   Also, emoticons are cute! Would you be interested in comic books and if so what ones do you read or what genre of comics are you interested in?   All of them. No, but I’m a huge xmen fan, loved Transmetropolitan, Shi, Kabuki, wasn’t a big fan of the Hellboy stuff… the art style made it hard to read. I love strange stuff, like Dogwitch, Lenore, Squee, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac (god, I need a new copy of that) too. I’ve got *some* of the stuff I like on my amazon wishlist. I also love anything to do with stars (especially four- or eight-pointed ones), the moon (full or crescent or triple moon), pomegranates, and stuff like wolf claws and crow feathers (not real ones, I mean, but shaped like them).     9/27   Gardening? Not yet, but when we have a house I plan to start a garden. So if you know of any good gardening books (so far I have the For Dummies book and the Better Homes & Gardens book), especially one for total noobs, that would be cool!   Is there anything you might want from the latest update (Lab or TP)? Not that I can think of.   Is there something(s) that you consider too spendy or too frivolous for you to buy for yourself, but that you actually want? I really like Wylde Ivy's White Cashmere, but I gave mine to my mom when she was visiting (a year and a half ago!) because she liked it and I've yet to replace it. Not that it's expensive, but pretty much everything has been too frivolous for me to spend money on lately, unfortunately.   Do you use or would like to try loose eyeshadow pigments? I like loose eyeshadows, but I have quite a few that I never use because my brush (it was eco-friendly and cruelty-free, but apparently cheaply made) broke. I usually fix myself a cup of tea and hopefully scrounge up something sweet, and watch a favorite movie, often one based on a Jane Austen novel (I have so many), but sometimes a funny movie. I think I said in answer to another question that Hot Fuzz is one of my favorite cheer-up movies. I usually save it for when I feel really low.   Who here is going to be picking up JK Rowling's new book on Thursday I haven't yet, but I do want to read it at some point. Favorite...anything to do with chocolate, I guess? Least favorite...I can't think of a least favorite baked good.   what size T-Shirt do you wear (standard AND babydoll)? I guess it depends? All my old BPTP crewnecks are 3X because I wanted them to be big, but since I lost weight they're a little *too* big. So I guess 2X. And I have a babydoll somewhere that's XXL, but I don't wear it much because it's so short on me. I'm tall-ish (5'9"), but most of my height is in my long waist, so a lot of shirts are too short on me, which is one of the reasons I was getting my shirts so big.   I found a fantastic little shop while traveling that had unusual jellies and jams. Would you be interested in trying something like Georgia Moonshine Jelly or TOE Jam (each letter stands for some kind of fruit, I don't remember which ones) or something similar? How about homemade jam in general? I believe I have already made my fascination with this Moonshine Jelly stuff clear! And I'm open to pretty much any kind of jam.   Would you be interested in homemade herbal remedies and tinctures? Are there designer clothes/purses/sunglasses that you desire/love? (Give some indication as to your "style" as well. For example, do you like bohemian-style frocks in lavender? Crossbody purses in black? Sunglasses that are round and bug-like?) I loveloveLOVE sunglasses--the bigger, the better. I recently stopped dead in my tracks when passing a local eyeglass place because they had this pair of incredible sunglasses in the window display. The frame was shaped like an infinity symbol, with huge smoky lenses. So gorgeous. I think they were Versace or a similarly ridiculously expensive designer brand. So if you're my Witch and you see 'em for cheap, by all means! I also love bags. Lately, clutch purses, but anything relatively structured (i.e., not slouchy hobo styles) OR a sturdy tote. Hello my witch wonderful I TOLD THE NACHO MINION I DONT NEED ANYTHING-youve been SO VERY GENEROUS A minion or nacho witch wrote me asking my coffee and scent prefences. And before I get to those     IF EITHER BEAVER MOON or MISCHIEF found its way to me, there would be much rejoicing. !!       I'd like to thank you for all the goodness. I am still petting my sock dreams socks-twas warm today so havent worn them yet, but they will get the love they deserve.   Tonight I went out shopping, ostensibly looking for Levis but alas, there were short size 8, or tall size 8's but no regular, so I headed to the Kipling purse section. I've taken to only wearing Kipling purses ($ but oh so lightweight-and they hold a lot)   Which brings me to ketchup- my purse is like some sort of traveling office   wallet, phone,charger, separate camera , pens, makeup,meds,notebook,and sometimes bits of craft stuff and supplies!! so I would love one of those purse organizer type things-I put an example on my amazon list!   SCENT STUFF-Vanillas and foody are my favorites-I would love to try MISCHIEF, FIZZY JACK o'Lantern-also like coffee scents (I have MIsk U and love using it in fall and Winter) I also just bought a bottle of BONFIRE NIGHT and love that-also like ale and beer scents!!   am not a fan of patchouli and excessively Floral Other scents-Possets-I used to wear them,but they disappeared on me-my skin just ate up whatever the base is so sadly   Open to trying other scents too!   COFFEE_ YAY FOR GROUND COFFEE-Decaf preferred-I like Trader Joes coffee, and of course STARBUCKS!!! Prefer coffee to tea   CLOTHING- tshirt-long sleeve preferred or short sleeve-no sleeveless cause it woulnt be pretty-size L-I like babydoll kind-if it was a lab tshirt or american apparel type Id be xl but in target style shirts am a large!   FAVORITE SOAP COMPANY IS BOTANICA BATH ON ETSY   (they used to be called natures edge)   like citrus flavors scents for moisturizers always love shower gels   skin type-dry and sensitive:( but moisturizing stuff always welcome   favorite colors-if you look at my etsy shop you can probably tell my favorite color is BLUE,,and I love knitted goods-cowls, scarves, gloves or wristwarmers!!     And you know I have much fondness for cars, for the show TOP GEAR, for all the programs on BBC AMerica (which I no longer have-grr) at this point I do not have an ereader-but at some point anticipate an ipad!!   AND ONE MORE THING_WITCHIEPOO_ I WUB YOU- JUST POKE ME IF YOU WANNA KNOW SOMETHING,OK?

I can't promise to be on-thread as much as before I got employed, but I really will try and be less MIA!   ALSO.   If you want to give me the gift that keeps on giving do you have any recommendations for comfortable shoes that are cute, not terribly hot (I run around A LOT) and can accommodate what I have lovingly nicknamed--my Filipino wedge feet? (It's so unfair, my Mom wears a 6 1/2 and has a wedge foot but since her feet are so tiny she never has a problem. I wear a hulking size 10 (sometimes 9 1/2) and my feet cannot accommodate super narrow shoes!!!) I come home after 7 hours of running around--my feet are DYING.   And you cannot entice me to wear Crocs! Lol.
