BPAL: Lust

Lust Category: Sin And Salvation Quantity: sample   Description: LUST Uncontrollable passion and insatiable sexual desire: red musk, patchouli, ylang ylang and myrrh.   Review:   In the bottle: Ew, it smells like old incense... More precisely, like a mix of musk and patchouli.   Wet: Surprisingly, it actually turns sweet and spicy on my skin!   Dry: ...And right back to the musky incense.   Verdict: No, this one is definitively not for me. Too bad, I liked the name.   More reviews: Sin And Salvation: Lust

BPAL: Jolly Roger

Jolly Roger Category: Bewitching Brews Quantity: sample   Description: JOLLY ROGER Sea spray with an undercurrent of leather, Bay Rum, and salty, dry woods.   Review:   In the bottle: It does smell like the sea, in a very salty way; yet, it’s woody, with an under-note of sweetness.   Wet: It’s still very aquatic. I get some of the wood, washed by the sea, but it’s still definitively aquatic.   Dry: As it dries, it starts to smell like an old pirate leather hat, with a splash of rhum. (Yarr...)   Verdict: It’s an interesting aquatic after-shave perfume, with an old pirate twist to it.   More reviews: Bewitching Brews: Jolly Roger

Rares I've tried! aka, OVERRATED! ;]

Since I've been gotten my hands on a few "rares" occasionally, I've found that I've been shocked at how overrated some of them really are! It just makes me facepalm when I get a whiff of a famously-coveted scent and find myself to be completely disillusioned by it, haha. SO I thought I'd record all the notorious scents and my short thoughts on them:     Love's Philosophy - I was expecting it to be creamy, sweet deliciousness, but in all honesty, it just smelled kinda like plastic, or fake. I was definitely not impressed.   Plastic Pink Flamingo - Oi vey. Once again I had high hopes of sugary-scrumptiousness, but for whatever reason, it didn't smell that great at all. If anything, just smelled like... generic sweetness.   Velvet Unicorn - Nearly the exact same case as "Plastic Pink Flamingo" here as well! They both smelled incredibly similar to one another, and most pointedly in their generic sweetness, that was far from impressive.   Glowing Vulva - Albeit this was actually only huffed in its bath oil version, I trust that it smells more or less like it's oil counterpart... But on my very first sniff, I was like "Wow!" but then on repeated sniffs, it started to smell STANK up, which I attribute to the amber (I loathe ambers!)~ I kept huffing to disgust myself so I will never, ever covet "Glowing Vulva" in oil form, or else, I will just be longing away forever, haha! Hopefully I've broken myself from the desire to want the oil. But yes, overall the cream accord and amber ingredients just made my stomach churn a bit.   Storyville - I was shaking with excitement to try this! But alas when I opened the imp and greedily huffed, I nearly guffawed because it smells almost IDENTICAL to "Shub-niggurath," at least in my opinion! Granted "Shub" is one of my most FAVORITE scents EVER, but having an uber-famed "Storyville" smell pretty much the same is funny as hell, in my opinion. Hehe. In any case, I guess you could say I like this one, but only because it smells like a beloved of mine   Monsterbait: Underpants - Wow, I really question how and why this is so damned famous amongst the community. Is it because of its titillating name? I don't understand. I've sniffed this one twice from two separate decants, and even slathered some on as well, and it still barely smells like anything discernible, and then at the same time, smells like plain musk, or something kinda faint. This was an incredible meh, with a healthy dose of "WTF? WHY!?"   Selkie   Tamamo-no-Mae

Good Judy: Spirit Bottle: Lhunassi

Spirit Bottle: Lhunassi Category: Curio Shop Quantity: sample   Description: SPIRIT BOTTLE: LHUNASSI Also known as a Charm Bottle, these elaborately decorated bottles are known for their healing and good fortune…as well as their powerful voodoo charms. Filled with medicinal herbs and spices, these bottled philtres are further enhanced by the captured spirit that resides in the bottle. Once purchased, you, the Keeper, have complete control over the captured spirit, and the spirit will aid you and you alone. Take heed, because while your spirit will listen only to you, you must also listen to your spirit. Servitude is not forever. Your spirit will let you know when their servitude is complete. When the time comes, make sure to properly bury your Spirit Bottle and come visit Good Judy’s Curio Shoppe to acquire another. We have many more arriving any day now.   This Spirit Bottle boasts the spirit of Lhunassi, powerful Moon Goddess and keeper of the stars. She will guide you on your spiritual journey for increased fertility and appease your need for nurturing and love of others.   Herbs, spices, moonflower, white champa, knotted twine (to bind the spirit)   Review:   In the bottle: It’s very feminine, with a mix of floral and herbal scents.   Wet: It’s already getting more precise: I get moonflower and herbs, with champa in the background. There’s something “old lady-ish” about it, though.   Dry: Now, it’s softer, more herbal, with light champa, and subtle moonflower.   Verdict: It’s very feminine and elegant, I won’t deny that, but it’s a bit too old-fashioned for me.

BPAL: Eat Me

Eat Me Category: Mad Tea Party Quantity: sample   Description: EAT ME Soon her eye fell on a little glass box that was lying under the table: she opened it, and found in it a very small cake, on which the words 'EAT ME' were beautifully marked in currants.   'Well, I'll eat it,' said Alice, 'and if it makes me grow larger, I can reach the key; and if it makes me grow smaller, I can creep under the door; so either way I'll get into the garden, and I don't care which happens!'   She ate a little bit, and said anxiously to herself, 'Which way? Which way?', holding her hand on the top of her head to feel which way it was growing, and she was quite surprised to find that she remained the same size: to be sure, this generally happens when one eats cake, but Alice had got so much into the way of expecting nothing but out-of-the-way things to happen, that it seemed quite dull and stupid for life to go on in the common way.   Three white cakes, vanilla, and red and black currants.   BPAL’s Eat Me is not for eating. Please use common sense, and remember: perfume oils are for external use only.   Review:   In the bottle: Oh my! What a sugary, creamy, decadent cake!   Wet: A soft, moist vanilla cake. I still hesitate between comparing it to a white wedding cake or a pound cake; but either way, it smells yummy.   Dry: Now I get a little bit of currant to balance the rich sweetness of the cake. However, it still smells like something I would eat...   Verdict: Ok, I admit it, I have a weakness for foody scents... I might be biased, but I think this perfume is adorable. In fact, it makes me want to bake a batch of cupcakes.   More reviews: Mad Tea Party: Eat Me

BPAL: Follow Me Boy

Follow Me Boy Category: Bewitching Brews Quantity: sample   Description: FOLLOW ME BOY A houdoun recipe dating back almost 150 years. This blend is favored by prostitutes, exotic dancers and others in the sex industry for its power to attract, seduce, and enthrall. Ensures financial gain and increased profits.   Review:   In the bottle: Contrarily to my fellow reviewers, I don’t get any jasmine (in my memories, jasmine smells better than that), but something bitter, maybe lemon, and a strong floral smell, either rose or patchouli.   Wet: I still smell citrus, but sweeter, such as orange, mixed with honey, rose, and baby powder.   Dry: It gets better after a while. I now smell honeysuckle, vanilla, powder, and something spicy. It’s still very floral, but it goes through a nice evolution.   Verdict: It’s ok, but honestly, it’s not something I will keep.   More reviews: Bewitching Brews: Follow Me Boy

My Red Imp Box

In my red imp box, I've got the imps that I like, but haven't gotten a bottle of (yet). Some I'm still testing out, some I know I'm actively ISO, some I like enough to wear the imp but don't want a bottle. Food Swap Q's

Are there any spices you know you need, or always use? I love cajun spices and would like to try out different types of salts. A good Italian blend (for sauces) would be fun to play with).   What colors are your kitchen? Do you need/would you use new potholders? Currently white cabinets, red walls. I’m trying to gather stuff for when I move out, so potholders would be useful – I plan on having a kitchen filled with Hello Kitty appliances. So a cute theme (for any kitchen stuff) would work best.   Any small kitchen gadgets you like, need, want or desire? As I mentioned, I’m trying to gather stuff to move out so small kitchen stuff that would be appreciated: Can opener Peeler Salt & Pepper shakers   Spiciness Medium.   Alcohol I do enjoy it – I love cooking with it.   things for the grill? I don’t think so, though spices, marinades, and/or recipes for grilling would be great.   would you prefer mostly made stuff that you can just open the box and eat? or ingredients that you can turn into something else? a combination? just whatever i feel like sending? Whatever you feel like sending is fine (though I do enjoy cooking and need some inspiration).

Fairytale Art Swap Q's

What is your favorite fairy tale, persona, or motif? What imagery does the story/person/thing evoke for you? Do you like or hate how it was handled by a movie or show? How about illustrations and pictures on the subject? Any you are particularly in love with? I’ve got to think about this one.   How are you with ethically sourced (read: found in the woods on the ground, on the beach, etc.) formerly living bits? Examples: feathers, butterfly wings, fossilized teeth/bone, clean-but-not fossilized bone. All good.   Would you rather have half of something that was super fabulous in conception, but ultimately too much to pull off completely in the time frame(although still fully functional? Why not – I also wouldn’t mind if you needed extra time to pull off and just sent me a hint of what’s to come (if that would be fine with the swap leaders).   Is there something specifically in fairytales you do NOT want to see? Can’t think of anything at the moment – will let you know if something comes up.   And would you be limited to the idea of 'fairytales' or would you be happy with crossing over into 'origin stories' or 'mythology'? I love mythology especially Greek and Egyptian.   If you've mentioned that purple is a favorite color, which shades do you prefer? Darker, royal shades or ones that tend to lean more red than blue. Lighter shades are also fine but not the biggest fan of pastels.   If in your questionnaire you talked about different styles or listed a number of favorite stories, now that we've been talking about the subject, has anything sort of popped into your head as a "you know I REALLY wish my artist would do something with X story/theme/subject/style." ? Not really.   How do you feeel about nudity? No problems with it.   How do you feel about more practical crafty kinds of things, rather than more traditional "art"? Like would you be ok with a decorated box or bag, or something like that? If I could use the art that you make me, that would be a bonus. I would love to get a bag for my gaming dice.   Would you like a retold fairy tale (in poem or story form) written by your artist as part of your swap? That would be really neat.   How do you feel about receiving a recipe of some sort based off your faerie tale of choice? Or say a meal plan you could do for a day or like a dinner party or something? This sounds so awesome.   How do you feel about anime in general? I love anime – go to conventions and cosplay too. I’m going as Sailor Moon for this year’s Sakura Con.   What kind of bodyshapes appeal to you in pin up art, male and female? I enjoy pin up – curves are always nice. Don’t really pay attention or look at a lot of male models, so just female for me.   How do you feel about excerpts in your art? Are words okay, or would you rather leave language to the imagination? If excerpts are needed, go ahead. If not tastefully, excerpts can really bring a piece together.   What is your favorite grimms tale?   Would you mind getting extra non fairytale goodies along with the required item? Like teas, bacon caramels, soap? Extras of any kind are always welcomed (though I’m not sure about bacon caramels).   Would you enjoy a wearable item? something hand knit by chance? Love knitted stuff.   What kinds of things do you like to eat? Snack wise, donuts and Asian sweets/cookies.   If you were my patron, is there are particular animal (or animals, or animal tale) from a faerie tale/myth/modern tale/legend that you love or emphasize with?   Do you have a particular house color palette? Not really; I’m also hoping to move out sometime in April or around that time and I don’t have any particular color palette in mind either.   If you were my patron, what would you be hoping for in miniature Miniatures are super fun! I'm up for anything, but dragons especially

A note on swap/sales package goodies.

Hi there! To get here, you likely clicked a link my wishlist or swap thread, thanks for being so thoughtful as to look around for information about things like this!   While I greatly appreciate freebies and extras in swap and sales packages, I needed to make a note regarding allergies and such.   We have a few food-related allergies in the house that are, honestly, difficult to avoid. The big one is soy - which rules out a lot of strange stuff. I have a (seizure-related) sensitivity to artificial sweeteners and a sulfa-related allergy to sodium saccharine. Household allergies to: beets, tomatoes, eggplant, strawberries, bananas.   I do enjoy tea, coffee, spices and the like provided they are soy and artificial sweetener free (you'd be surprised at what isn't!)   Here are some odd ones that I never knew I'd need to call out
Latex allergy - so no cute Band-Aids or other skin-touching-sticky things, please
Polyester allergy
Many candles are soy-wax based these days, if you aren't sure please hang onto it for your next package   There is also a household sensitivity (asthma-related) to most synthetic fragrance. I usually just avoid non-BPAL scents because so many of them also use synthetic carriers or soy-based products, which we can't have in the house. Other than BPAL, our house is mostly unscented - we don't use scented bath, beauty, laundry or household products. No incense, please, asthmatic child in the home (and we run HePA filters with UV-C sanitizing lights all the time, so the incense would be gone pretty quickly if we did try.)   I have a post up in the likes/dislikes thread that is linked in my wishlist for BPAL-related death-notes and other assorted scent-based information. This is linked in my wishlist.   Of course, if you include things that I can't have, I'll just pass them on to someone at the office (or in the case of scents and such, offer them up for swapping, frimp them to my next swapper) but I thought I'd try and make sure that everything you pay to ship is loved where it arrives.   Thanks so much for being so generous, everyone!

Art Swap Questions

What is your favorite fairy tale, persona, or motif? What imagery does the story/person/thing evoke for you? Do you like or hate how it was handled by a movie or show? How about illustrations and pictures on the subject? Any you are particularly in love with?   I think I answered this at length in the thread.   How are you with ethically sourced (read: found in the woods on the ground, on the beach, etc.) formerly living bits? Examples: feathers, butterfly wings, fossilized teeth/bone, clean-but-not fossilized bone.   Go for it!   Would you rather have half of something that was super fabulous in conception, but ultimately too much to pull off completely in the time frame(although still fully functional?   Yes. Do what you want and then send it my way.   Is there something specifically in fairytales you do NOT want to see?   Really, really graphic violence and incest.   And would you be limited to the idea of 'fairytales' or would you be happy with crossing over into 'origin stories' or 'mythology'?   DO IT.   If you've mentioned that purple is a favorite color, which shades do you prefer?   Jewel tones -- so vivid but darkish.   If in your questionnaire you talked about different styles or listed a number of favorite stories, now that we've been talking about the subject, has anything sort of popped into your head as a "you know I REALLY wish my artist would do something with X story/theme/subject/style." ?   I do like Art Deco and Art Nouveau, but I would also really like whatever style you are most comfortable with. I'd rather have a piece you are comfortable and confident making than something you bent over backwards to make in a style I like, but weren't as comfortable in. I'd like to see your expertise.   How do you feeel about nudity?   I'm not opposed.   How do you feel about more practical crafty kinds of things, rather than more traditional "art"? Like would you be ok with a decorated box or bag, or something like that?   I would love it.   Would you like a retold fairy tale (in poem or story form) written by your artist as part of your swap?   Sure!   How do you feel about receiving a recipe of some sort based off your faerie tale of choice?   Yessssss.   Or say a meal plan you could do for a day or like a dinner party or something?   Okay, yes, this would be fun.   How do you feel about anime in general?   I'm down with it.   What kind of bodyshapes appeal to you in pin up art, male and female?   Curvy, but realistic lady shapes.   How do you feel about excerpts in your art? Are words okay, or would you rather leave language to the imagination?   You do what you want.   What is your favorite grimms tale?   This is haaaaaaaard. Seriously, I don't even know.   New As of 10 Feb: Would you mind getting extra non fairytale goodies along with the required item? Like teas, bacon caramels, soap?   Sure!   Would you enjoy a wearable item? something hand knit by chance?   I'd love it. The asker of this question sent me a pair of wrist warmers last year and I wear them ALL THE TIME. She's a fantastic knitter.   New As of 11 Feb: What kinds of things do you like to eat?   All kinds of things. We're serious foodies. Oh, except not mushroom-truffles. Those kind of taste like feet to me. No matter how I have 'em, then end up just being gross. And I love mushrooms. But bllerrrrgh.   If you were my patron, is there are particular animal (or animals, or animal tale) from a faerie tale/myth/modern tale/legend that you love or emphasize with?   No.   New As of 12 Feb:   Do you have a particular house color palette? I think I already said this -- we have a very nice neutral light taupe wall color. I tend to decorate in browns and jewel tones.   New As of 13 Feb: If you were my patron, what would you be hoping for in miniature?   Whatever you are planning on sending me.
