Ichabod Crane

Category: Limited Editions -- Halloween 2008 -- Sleepy Hollow   The prevailing note here is beeswax...it's a very warm, homey scent. It is complemented nicely by the tea, cream, and, yes, wool. Over time, it fades into a golden, perfumey amalgam that is classy and very, very pleasant. I really like this, and need to remember to get me a bottle.

Gunpowder

Category: Limited Editions -- Halloween 2008 -- Sleepy Hollow   I get a LOT of maple and oats out of this, with little side-hints of carrot. It's a delicious, pleasant, warm, comforting scent, but unfortunately the throw is minimal -- if there's musk, I really can't detect any -- and staying power is so-so. I will treasure what's left of my imp, but I don't feel that I need any more than that.

Fearful Pleasure

Category: Limited Editions -- Halloween 2008 -- Sleepy Hollow   I got a variety of scents from this one over the time that I tested it...the first day, it was straight-on, overpowering apple juice, with a rather unpleasant...biological sort of edge to it. (Read: pee. Eeek.) On subsequent days, however, it played very nice. One day, I could swear that all I smelled was sarsparilla...like a smooth, creamy, home-brewed root beer with a hint of vanilla and just the barest wisp of smoke. I have NO idea what was going on, that day, but I liked it -- and if it had done that repeatedly, I'd definitely be wanting a bottle of it. Overall, however, it settles into spiced apple cider. It's a scent that's both sweet and warm and very evocative of Autumn. If you love apple scents, definitely grab some of this. It's really good, but for a foodie scent, I believe that Huesos works better for me.

Troll

Happily, the lab frimped Troll in my latest order, because I probably would have never gotten around to ordering it on my own.   It is not as dark and fearsome as the description would have you believe. Actually, it is a pleasant, soft green scent that is very grounded. It reminds me of a damp conifer forest floor. It does seem a bit foody, but that's not my first impression.   This scent would be marvelous on a man, nice as a room scent (especially if you happen to have a lodge or cabin), and daring and unique on a woman.

The Girls Love Pink Pepper
The first in The Girls Love series of Honey scents, The Girls Love Pink Pepper is really a gorgeous blending of honey and that woody but feminine scent. This is PINK pepper and it dances beautifully with that deep from the comb honey and other secret ingredients within the blend. I am very very proud of this one, and if you can only afford one of The Girls, make it The Girls Love Pink Pepper.
In the imp and on wet, wow, is this ever pink pepper. As it dries, the pepper softens and the honey begins to come through. Dry, it's a really lovely honey scent with a very soft peppery spice.

The Girls Love Limeys
A really and truly beautiful pairing of honey and lime and secret ingredients, just like bees make. It is a real beauty again. Tart and sweet at the same time, a tiny bit spicy and full of life. And, Yes, the word "limeys" is doing double duty!
In the imp and on wet, this is a very limey, pretty scent. Dry, it's a nice blend of lime and honey.

Frou-Frou
This perfume is a tribute to the beautiful wistful girl at the bar of the Folies Bergere painted by Edouard Manet. Her mystery among the citizens of the demi-monde and the flowers on the bar and in her bodice are a symbol of the ironies of modern life. This scent brings back the charm of the countryside to the great indoors. A gentle floral unapologetically feminine and classic. Characteristics: floral, perfumy, scent locket, feminine, long lasting.
Soft florals blended with vanilla cream. Not my usual style, but it's actually very nice. Reminds me a little bit of Black Lace, only more floral.

Fabienne
I don't have a description for this one.
Beeswax and damp wool, with a bit of tea. It reminds me strongly of Ichabod Crane. I'm not too crazy about this one.

Western Hills
All the snap and giggle of Cincinnati's perpetual land of youth, where all the boys are football heros and all the girls are pretty. Western Hills folk know how to have a good time, and there is great comfort over there as well. Nothing is quite so snuggly as a Western Hills Christmas, the children get more candy at Halloween, and the Fourth of July is more brilliant over there. Western Hills is a sweet but daring rendition of that part of Cincinnati. Like the real thing, it's sporty, foody, rich and robust but with a heartbreaking familiarity like what you feel when you go home again. A high risk scent which I feel I pulled off with aplomb. Characteristics: foody, sporty, cutting edge, unisex.
Popcorn, vanilla and a touch of candy corn.


Celadon Green
The placid, cool, and unflappable mien of a truly refreshing friend, Celadon Green radiates your serene confidence as it gives you a secret stop gap against the day's travails. This is precisely the scent that you need when you need a cool breeze to blow through hot times. Greenery, and crunchy lushness in spots where others wilt. That's Celadon Green. Characteristics: green, light, long lasting, dry, refreshing, scent locket, home scent, unisex, cooling, summer scent.

A soft swirl of mint, vanilla sugar and a hint of beeswax.

Epinoia
"Epinoia" is a state of mind where one is possessed by a fit of supernatural creativity. The perfume Epinoia is a concoction of natural indulgences: cocoa, sweet spice, classy citrus, and vanilla. The natural perfume lovers' answer to foody scents, luscious. I like this one better than the synthetics by a country mile. Keep out of reach of children and adults with a sweet tooth. There is nothing but hedonistic indulgence in Epinoia, nothing good for you or medicinal just pure unabashed luxury.* Characteristics: fruity, orange, chocolate, unisex, scent locket, home scent.
Ooh! A really lovely, foody scent. Cocoa with vanilla and a touch of citrus. Love it!

Glee
Oh, the Glee of spring! Here it is. Another chocolate scent but this one is, how you say, spicy? No, it's oriental and choco... No. It's...it's...it's... Oh, heck. You just have to try this one and supply your own description. Words fail even me, and I warn you it is not stable! I love this stuff. Love it. However, it turns on my skin. Just let it dry and it Hates me. I hope it does not happen to you. Most of the time if a scent does not agree with me I don't offer it, but this time I think that Glee is so good that I offer it with the warning and let you know that I love it and wear it in my scent locket. That's right, it's that good. Give it a try and see what you think. Amended to say: for some celestial reason my skin stopped hating Glee. I am so happy. But try this stuff anyway. It is really good. Characteristics: Chocolate, foody, woody, unisex, scent locket, modern, home scent.
Chocolate and Middle Eastern spices. Maybe a touch of coffee. Lovely!

Haute Love
Ginger, you say you want ginger? Like love it's hot and burns so beautifully! Imagine chocolate covered ginger which is forced to marry a gooey sticky sweet and all consuming center. It is so clean...it is so very sinful! Haute Love will remind you of that guy you knew who was so polite around your parents, but was such a wildman once you left the house. Or was that you, the prim little lady in public, the wildcat in private? That's Haute Love. Characteristics: Foody, spicy, chocolate, vanilla, scent locket, unisex, home scent, long lasting.
Oh my! Dark chocolate with ginger and a hint of vanilla.

Cadmium Red
This is the intense lickable red. It's an expensive color which you only find on the finest automobile finishes, the most expensive nail lacquer, and the most high of high concepts. It is the holidays forever. Possets is bringing out their scents of colors and Cadmium Red is the first splashy beautiful of the palette. Red, it smells red in the most delicious and beguiling way. For the faint of heart who want to take heart and for the fearless who want to accentuate their glee. Characteristics: spicy, unisex, scent locket, home scent, long lasting.
Wow. This is the lovely scent of red velvet cake. Chocolate with a little something extra. Decadent and lovely.

The Girls Love Clubbing
Imagine the thump of Club Bee music, the Girls show up and they are Dressed To Kill! Those wasp waists and big black eyes! That hair, those black leggings! The haze of clove with honey and other things. Yes. It's going to be a good evening! Characteristics: spicy, honey, sophisticated.
Clove and honey swirled together with leather and smoke. Smells just like a good time.

OMG I can't even be bothered to break it down into my usual scent sniffing phases. The minute this hit my skin I get this horrid licorice smell. I can't stand it

No News Is Good News

Nothing much to report, which is pretty dang fabulous considering my lousy track record with skin care products. It's been three months since starting OCM and I continue to be very happy with the results. I've had no breakouts since my last post except for one hormonal zit that was there one day then gone the next, and my skin's oil production stayed balanced through an incredibly humid couple of months. It'll be interesting to see how OCM will work in the dry winter weather. I'm a just little concerned that the castor oil may dry my skin out, but if that happens I'll just have to tweak my oil mixture again.     Otherwise....

Xmas/holiday ornaments -- Want any? What kinds do you go for? (certain line or color or style) I like the traditional-style ones, the ones that make me think of The Nutcracker. Bright &/or shiny. Wood or felt is good. Plastic is very bad. Glass is fab but possibly not recommended for obvious reasons *cough*clumsy person/postal system/curious kitty*cough*. Cat-proof is good. Catnip-filled is not the best idea. (Believe me, I should know.)   Would you like your witch to reveal themselves in the final package, or wait until you've received the package and reveal on the board? Or not reveal at all? I'm happy with whatever my witch decides! But, y'know, it'd be nice if s/he did reveal   What do you keep your jewelry in and would you need/want something new? My jewellery is all over the place (and did I mention I am a rather messy/disorganized person?!) I sort of don't have anything to put it in. This is mostly a problem with my necklaces. I should really get one of those things like you can buy for hanging bananas, but for jewellery. Um. You know what I mean. No, really you do! *Too much coursework = brain malfunction tonight*   Do you get excited about nifty socks, and if so, do you have a style or height that you prefer? I always need socks. Actually always. Don't know why, but I seem to get through them really quickly. If someone gives me socks for Yule/Christmas, I am honestly delighted! (And yes, I am often mocked for that! Like I care! )   Maple - yay or nay? Yay! Also yay for stevia! Seriously: food! I hope my dear witch will send me at least one thing that is an eatable   Are you still counting on your witchee keeping up with questions at this point, or do you know enough about her already that questions are just kind of a fun bonus now? For the purpose of gift plotting/shopping, I don't need to know anything more; but it's nice to read his/her answers 'cos it makes me feel I'm getting to know my Witchee (who is super, btw!)   Any opinion on Lush products? (And do you take baths at all, or are you strictly a shower gal?) No opinion on Lush, as I haven't tried it yet. And much as I hate showers, I no longer have access to a bath Worse yet, the 2 showers in my uni accommodation are shared between 8 people. I believe the term I am looking for is "gross".   Silver/Gold/etc. What is your real preference? My first choice is always silver, but other colours of metal are okay as long as they are not gold. Apparently my skin tone is just not good for wearing gold or gold coloured metal. Copper/bronze colours are okay. Silver looks good. Gold looks cheap on me. The exception is rose gold, which is okay.   If you could get a gift for one housekeeping related task, and never have to do that one task, what would it be? Okay, it's time I confessed: I do absolutely no housework unless my home is about to become a health and safety hazard. But that's because I'm lazy; once I get started on a task I'm fine. My one big hate (aside from anything involving stinky cleaning chemicals) is washing dishes. I inherited this dislike from my mother, who would never be able to do without her dishwasher. Once I move into my own place, dishwasher is top of my electrical appliances list. And I do mean top. I can live without TV. Actually I am living without TV right now and I don't even miss it. Anyway: Dishwasher. Do Want.

And sorry I'm so damn LATE with this!If you had to chose one BPAL scent and only ONE to have forever what would it be?Oh, lord, that's difficult. Um. I just feel like after a while, I'd get bored of anything, really. Probably, though, it'd be Pumpkin Queen. Sweet but not too sweet, rich but not too rich, spicy but not too spicy... perfect. Who here likes Betty Page?I like her well enough but I'm not a huge fan. I do think Gretchen Mol was robbed of a deserved Oscar nomination for her role in the movie, though.How about original Trek Characters?Not so much my thing.If you were my witchee, would you like a jar of home made apple butter? This is assuming it turns out good...Sure! I'm kind of weird about foodstuffs from (virtual) strangers, but canned things for some reason don't give me the same nerves...Are you interested in Tarot cards? And if so, are there particular decks you like (or don't or already have or whatever)? Not hugely, though I do have what I think of as the basic deck - the Rider-Waite. Category: Limited Edition -- Halloween 2008   This scent did not work on me at all. Aside from smelling burnt, it smells sharp and shrill and peppery, like the little black dots of mold that you find on the underside of leaves, and the spent brown papery galls that once harbored wasps. Maybe it was the vetiver, or the particular combination of vetiver and tobacco...but it all just adds up to a big cloud of Yuck.

Category: Limited Editions -- Halloween 2008   This scent is definitely as advertised: leather and musk. The 'leather' aspect evokes brand-new, shiny, supple, oiled leather; it's like walking into a Wilsons showroom (or any other store that specializes in leather coats and goods). The musk is a pure, clean skin-musk that is verrrrrrry delicious; it smells just like fresh, clean man-skin. The combination makes it a pretty damned intriguing scent. I don't need a bottle, but I'm definitely keeping my imp, and I'd recommend wearing this to anyone who wants a highly-interested woman or three to follow them home.

Category: Limited Edition -- Halloween 2008   As many others have said: OMG YUMMY. Admittedly, it did take me a day or so to warm up to it, but once the full brunt of orange custardy cake goodness seeped into my system, I was hard-pressed not to just sit in a corner and lick myself for hours. I had been afraid of the floral notes, but I never really detected them at all. It just smells like moist, delicious, orange-glazed cake, and that is definitely good enough for me. Foodie fans must procure themselves a bottle of this.

Category: Discontinued Scents   This is a wonderfully light and delicate floral. I can smell iris and, I think, moonflower; I don't pick up the super-sweet tone that I normally do from jasmine, but that's fine, as it seems to be working its magic in other ways. This scent is fresh and clean, and highly evocative; imagine standing among reeds and fragrant, dew-covered flowers at the edge of a pool, while the moon and stars shine above. It's beautiful. This is the one Muse that I really liked!

Category: Wanderlust   I think that, for me, cedar is going to be one of those scents that shoulders its way to the front and tries to hog all the attention, and that's certainly what it does here. Fresh out of the imp and wet on my skin, all I can smell is the cedar. As it dries, thankfully, the creamier, refreshing vanilla note becomes evident. This mostly becomes a balance of the vanilla and the wood, though the sassafras does peek out from time to time in sweet, delicious little wafts. Unfortunately, however, on me the cedar note just turns a bit rank and ruins whatever sweet dusty qualities this blend might have had. If one likes vanilla and can have the wood note behave on them, though, I think they will enjoy it.
