brsis Report post Posted February 22, 2009 Normally I'm quite good with my cosplay perfumes (In case anyone was wondering, we finally landed on Endymion for Saber - it worked, somehow) but I'm drawing blanks here: Grell Sutcliffe from Kuroshitsuji, and/or Tieria Erde from Gundam 00 I'm stuck because Kuroshitsuji = Cake in my head, and I can't have Grell smelling of cake. I also can't work chocolate, most berries or blood accord, so the obvious ones are out (Although Blood Countess sometimes works on me... that is a thought) And Tieria looks so girly and acts so manly and is so obviously not a perfume person... not to mention it's sci-fi and thus well outside the usual realms of BPAL! Yet I refuse to cosplay without perfume because I have a tendancy to overdress on warm days, I never get a chance to properly air my costumes beforehand, and I need something to cover up the smell of glue and wig conditioner. Ack, help? Share this post Link to post
sirsaber Report post Posted March 8, 2009 Mortarion, I'm not the number one go-to girl for recommending men's scents because I can't get my husband to wear BPAL (or any scent). But of things that I have tried on myself, Anubis came to mind for evoking death and the desert. It's resinous and spicy and definitely gender neutral (the notes are holy myrrh, storax, balsam, and embalming herbs). Ozymandias might be a good choice if you're looking for something that's on the more sophisticated end (vs. natural/earthy), although your character looks like he'd be more of an outdoors, roughin' it kind of guy. The description doesn't list the notes, and although I have heard some people compare it to Chanel No. 5 it smells very dry and masculine to me. (I'm sure you're already picking up on how different a blend can smell from one person to another from reading reviews and looking at threads here in Recommendations!) Good luck finding something to inspire you! Ivy...thank you for the rec of Anubis. It has come to my conclusion that Anubis shall forever be my favorite. It simply is divine. jencallisto Report post Posted March 10, 2009 I'm looking for a smell to capture my Darkling Antiquarian. Can anyone recommend a scent that will help me smell like a library? The only library/book-ish scents I've tried are Miskatonic University (library filled with Irish coffee -- but with emphasis on the coffee, at least for me) and Clio (orange-patchouli library -- emphasis on the library, all woods and parchment). Clio's the muse of history, so it's really quite appropriate. A couple of the Carnaval Diabolique Wunderkammer scents also seem to have library elements, like The Contract of Theophilus of Adana and Licwiglunga... Share this post Link to post

Or if they have high presence, Dee. It doesn't smell like books, it smells like sexy old things. Share this post Link to post

UploadedLobster Report post Posted April 8, 2009 (edited) I was hoping to get a recommendation--I'm planning to cosplay Casimira, from the book Palimpsest. She's a dream-city's matriarch and the mother of swarms of mechanical bees, crickets, mice, and all kinds of other assorted urban what-not that know everything that goes on, everywhere. She's full of love and her will is law. And she wears a bustle! There's actually a scent named for her already, but that citrus-heavy interpretation doesn't move me. I'd love to hear any other thoughts on what Casimira might smell like. Preferably GC? Edited April 8, 2009 by Uploaded Lobster Share this post Link to post

What came immediately to mind from the GC were Robotic Scarab or Obsidian Widow from Steamworks (for the clever little creatures), Marquise de Mertueil from Diabolus (pride and hauteur, powerfully female), and Black Opal from Bewitching Brews (dark and sensual but unreal all at once.) ender Report post Posted April 26, 2009 I'm involved in what's known as "cosplay", which involves recreating a character from various different sources (I've done books and anime and western animation before) and after discovering BPAL, I decided it would be an interesting idea to match scents with the characters I dress up as. I'm looking for recommendations for a few different scents in particular. The first character is Zuko from Avatar, if anyone recognizes it. I'm looking for something that smells of fire or burning, possibly with distinctly Asian hints with it as well. Next is a character who drowned from a horror video game. Here I'm looking for a scent that smells intensely of water and lake--I describe it as "I'm looking for something that smells like drowning", pretty much. The next character is aristocratic, very rich and very spoiled with heavily Arabian roots, intermingled with a touch of France. I'm looking for something that smells very Middle Eastern with touches of aristocracy--something just a little bit masculine but very very feminine. Possibly a bit bookish as well. And then a gunslinger who's also a clown. Something that smells like gunpowder or metal and circus. And finally, a character who's a lot like Link from Legend of Zelda (except not). Possibly carrying hints of "dragon", leather, swords, sweat, battle, and adventure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty much a "newbie" to BPAL but I really enjoy the few scents I have. (And if anyone is interested, the characters are Zuko from Avatar, Josh Shepherd from Silent Hill, Quatre Winner from Gundam Wing, Trowa Barton from Gundam Wing, and Alex from Lunar.) Thanks in advance! Share this post Link to post
eyeska Report post Posted April 26, 2009 If I were you, I'd definitely poke my head into the Recs for Role-Playing and Cosplay thread, just to see if anyone else has offered opinions on these characters already. Further: The first character is Zuko from Avatar, if anyone recognizes it. I'm looking for something that smells of fire or burning, possibly with distinctly Asian hints with it as well. Djinn! I wear it to make me smell like bonfires, which it genuinely smells like. Next is a character who drowned from a horror video game. Here I'm looking for a scent that smells intensely of water and lake--I describe it as "I'm looking for something that smells like drowning", pretty much. I'm not too great with aquatics, but I'd definitely suggest taking a poke through the Picnic in Arkham scents - not only are there some good aquatics in there, in my mind Lovecraft and Silent Hill have some similarities. The next character is aristocratic, very rich and very spoiled with heavily Arabian roots, intermingled with a touch of France. I'm looking for something that smells very Middle Eastern with touches of aristocracy--something just a little bit masculine but very very feminine. Possibly a bit bookish as well. Now why does that remind me of Othello? Arabian musk with two roses and a bevy of Middle Eastern and Indian spices. Gorgeous, that one. And then a gunslinger who's also a clown. Something that smells like gunpowder or metal and circus. Okay, it's not GC, but I totally thought of the Blockhead from the Carnaval Diabolique for this - Rusted metal, leather, and a pop of pink bubblegum. And finally, a character who's a lot like Link from Legend of Zelda (except not). Possibly carrying hints of "dragon", leather, swords, sweat, battle, and adventure. Dragon's Hide (dragon's blood and leather) is an option, as is Tintagel (Spicy mulled wine flowing through the musky heat, warm leather and bright clash of armor, the damp branches of Cornish hawthorn, blackthorn, juniper, English elm and bayberry, and the magical tingle of dragon's blood resin). The Bow and Crown of Conquest also springs to mind - sage, carnation and cedar with lavender, vanilla, white musk and leather. Good luck! Share this post Link to post
ender Report post Posted April 26, 2009 Thanks SO much for the help! Adding the scent description worked great. Djinn's been recommended to me before--I'll definitely have to get ahold of it. Othello as well. Blockhead might be a bit off because of the "bubblegum" but thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into that line as well. And Tintagel and all of the suggestions at the end sound fabulous. Definitely will look into them. Share this post Link to post
faylie Report post Posted April 26, 2009 a character who drowned from a horror video game. Here I'm looking for a scent that smells intensely of water and lake--I describe it as "I'm looking for something that smells like drowning", pretty much. My first thought here was Undertow from Dark (Bewitching brews) - The Dark Side of Water: clean and purifying, yet menacing -- lotus and juniper with a hint of mint. A scent dragged up from the depths to the Stygian shore I find this one kind of scary it's that well blended. The next character is aristocratic, very rich and very spoiled with heavily Arabian roots, intermingled with a touch of France. I'm looking for something that smells very Middle Eastern with touches of aristocracy--something just a little bit masculine but very very feminine. Possibly a bit bookish as well. Belle Epoque (Bewitching brews) - "The Pretty Era", France's Golden Time: an age of beauty, innovation and peace in France that lasted from the 19th Century through the first World War and gave birth to the cabaret, the cancan, and the cinema as well as the Impressionist and Art Nouveau movements. Sweet opium, Lily of the Valley, vanilla, mandarin and red sandalwood. And then a gunslinger who's also a clown. Something that smells like gunpowder or metal and circus. For the gunslinger aspect try Tombstone (Wanderlust) - A celebration of one of the first commercially produced perfumes of America's Old West. A rugged, warm blend of vanilla, balsam and sassafras layered over Virginia cedar. And finally, a character who's a lot like Link from Legend of Zelda (except not). Possibly carrying hints of "dragon", leather, swords, sweat, battle, and adventure. Dragons Hide (Ars Draconis) - Flame-kissed, warm, smooth, and highly protective. Dragon’s blood, leather and a hint of smoke. Hope you find something to suit. Share this post Link to post
HighPriestessIce Report post Posted June 3, 2009 This seems like the best place to ask so here I go :3 I've been having a hell of time finding scents for 2 of my dolls >< The first is Asmodeus. Named after the demon of lust, he works as a Porn star. He's a Tad promiscuous. He likes silk sheets, animal prints, red wine, Martinis, picking up guys, perfoming for the camera and sex :3 He hates beer, cigarettes and men with a macho attitude. I also imagins his character is somewhere in his late 20's. I was hoping to find something seductive but classy. My first attempts for him I got based on the descriptions/stories. I got O, Hunger and Depraved. Unfortunately I hated them ALL. I absolutely hate the sweet fruity scents, lilacs and coconut (it makes me sick). High school killed all the fruity crap for me, since the young preppy girls practically marinated in it so bad I would be walking through the halls eating it >< Here's a picture of Asmodeus so you get a good idea of his character. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v319/the...an/100_7263.jpg The second is Takuya. He works nights as a stripper. He's also and alchemist :3 His goals are world domination and making the philosopher's stone. He likes graveyards, haunted places, Horror movies, skulls, coffins, S&M, Strawberries, Punk and metal music, Visual kei, Reading up on various occult things, Video games (Fighting, horror and RPG). Clothing wise, He likes Sex Pot Revenge and H.Naoto, Specifically the H.Anarchy, Sixh and Dark red Rum lines. Links incase it helps. http://www.sexpot.jp/ H.Naoto: DRR: http://ses.s-inc.com/e-shop/app?page=VSSub...l8&sp=Strue Sixh:http://ses.s-inc.com/e-shop/app?page=VSCategoryTop&service=external&sp=l14&sp=Strue Anarchy:http://ses.s-inc.com/e-shop/app?page=VSSubCategoryTop&service=external&sp=l1&sp=Strue Good god he's an expensive boy clothing wise >< Unfortunately for me H.Naoto makes limited edition doll clothes for the Tokyo Dolpa. And crazy me has actually gone to the Tokyo Dolpa and bought them >< (I can't justifty $30 shirts for me but I can get a $400 naoto set for him, there's something wrong here o.o) Anyway, his age is about 24. He's stubborn, slightly cocky, and an attention whore. He also collects and plays guitars. Pictures of him if it helps :3 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v319/the...an/100_7376.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v319/the...an/100_7261.jpg The dark skinned doll is Mephistopheles :3 He's Tak's boyfriend :3 and a dominatrix :3 I'm also looking for something seductive for him, but non fruity. I won't object to something that makes want to cuddle him either :3 Again I hated all my first attempts for him. They were Red Devil (T.T I was so hoping for this one, is fit him to a T description wise), , Sed non Satiata, Come to me and follow me boy. Woooo that's alot of info >< But heck it might help :3 These were the only 2 out of my boy army that are giving me trouble scent wise, all my others were spot on >< Share this post Link to post
mazikeen Report post Posted June 3, 2009 The first character is Zuko from Avatar, if anyone recognizes it. I'm looking for something that smells of fire or burning, possibly with distinctly Asian hints with it as well. No "Asian hints," just straight-up burning fire: War. It's an almost painful explosion of pepper. Next is a character who drowned from a horror video game. Here I'm looking for a scent that smells intensely of water and lake--I describe it as "I'm looking for something that smells like drowning", pretty much. I second Undertow. It really does feel like slipping down into dark, heavy water. Also, Niflheim is good and darkly watery, and a bit otherworldly. The next character is aristocratic, very rich and very spoiled with heavily Arabian roots, intermingled with a touch of France. I'm looking for something that smells very Middle Eastern with touches of aristocracy--something just a little bit masculine but very very feminine. Possibly a bit bookish as well. Baghdad and Grand Guignol both come to mind, but it's been ages since I've smelled them, so I'm not certain. May be worth a try? All recs here are GC!! Share this post Link to post
Phantomthief Report post Posted June 8, 2009 This seems like the best place to ask so here I go :3 I've been having a hell of time finding scents for 2 of my dolls >< I'd be iffy about the oil around your lovely dollies :\ I was starting to think the same for my DOD H Ducan and my AS Cain (Totally the same situation with the clothes!) but I'd be worried about the resin even if you're just scenting the clothes. Anything oil-based isn't great for the resin... I know AS uses normal alcohol-based scents to mask the new-resin smell, maybe try that instead? I'm stuck because Kuroshitsuji = Cake in my head, and I can't have Grell smelling of cake. I also can't work chocolate, most berries or blood accord, so the obvious ones are out (Although Blood Countess sometimes works on me... that is a thought) We're using "Blood Kiss" (Lush, creamy vanilla and the honey of the sweetest kiss smeared with the vital throb of husky clove, swollen red cherries, but darkened with the vampiric sensuality of vetiver, soporific poppy and blood red wine, and a skin-light pulse of feral musk.) on our Grell. I had him page through a couple BPAL descriptions, he stopped on this one and went "THIS." So hopefully that works! I'm wearing either Jailbait, Beaver Moon (if I can find it), O, Snake oil or Gluttony for my Ciel :3 Share this post Link to post

Calicopocket Report post Posted June 20, 2009 I play in two LARPs, one's a sci-fi/steampunk and the other's a fantasy rennaissance sort. For the sci-fi one I play as a redneck character and tend to wear smokey earthy scents that border on boozy due to the fact that she works in the fields and does manual labor. To get that feel, I tend to slather myself with heavily incense-y things (Particularly Baron Samedi). My backup character is something of a gaudy and decadent spinster, so I'm planning on buying a full bottle of The Obsidian Widow and practically bathing in it before each game. As it is, I use my imp of it to get myself in character whenever I practice the accent/personality. My other character is a frost elf- stoic, beautiful, cold, and merciless. I use Violet Ray for that. The chill of the mint and the lovely violet scent mesh together perfectly into something electric and frigid. It works perfectly. Share this post Link to post
stillalive Report post Posted July 10, 2009 (edited) Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Discuss. What notes would make the perfect Tomb Raider scent? I'm thinking in-the-field would be something like a skin musk with a dusty, ancient overall feel and leather, aquatics, and just a hint of exotic spices and maybe some green tea. And a cool yet slightly playful grapefruit or lemon note to capture her personality. Dragon Blood? Gunpowder? What smells like ropes, rock-climbing, danger, wild animals/dinosaurs, ancient artifacts, saving the universe, and a true neutral alignment? I can't think of any good BPALs or other etailers that make anything like this. Help? Of course, she would need a Manor scent too... black tea, musty old books, cool citrus, faint florals (nightblooming, perhaps?), ozone, and clean linens? I thought of White Rabbit or Dirty but neither of those really captures her for me. ETA: If you have a non-BPAL etailer to recommend to me, please PM me about it. I can't use BPAL anymore on my meds as NONE of them work for me, but if anyone knows of a suitable one I could put it on my clothing or something. So yes, if you think of anything and it's not BPAL related please do PM me. Edited July 11, 2009 by systemaurora Share this post Link to post
HatterRenoAxel Report post Posted July 12, 2009 This may sound horrible deranged to some people both fans of the old World of Darkness and DC comics but some friend and I are doing a LARP were its various DC comic charactersas the various things of the world of darkness and I'm looking some help picking out smells. Rorschach, the half crazed vigilante from Watchmen is a werehyena (Ajaba love <3) in our chronicle, looking something that has a dirty smell but also a bit viscious. Dr. Jeremiah Arkham, a Malkavian with more issues besides an Asylum filled with the crazed undead, and later on in the story is actual the pawn of the Joker. He's from the Victorian age, so something with that feel to it but calm and subtle with something else lurking underneath it. Kirk Langstrom (The one from The Batman cartoon if anyone's watched that), a Gangrel vampire and was a biologist and geneticist before he was turned. Has a strong connection with the winged creatures of the night. Something damp with a caveish smell or something like being outside at night. Share this post Link to post
Dominique Report post Posted August 27, 2009 (edited) Some answers, and a question, should anyone still frequent this thread. As I'm not particularly familiar with men's scents, I don't know how useful these recommendations will be, but I'll give it a shot. For Rorschach, I'd go with De Sade, possibly layered with Deep In Earth. Leather whips and mud - might fit him. De Sade - From Sin & Salvation: The essence of pleasure heightened by pain: the raw scent of leather. Deep in Earth - From Ars Moriendi: Rose geranium, Spanish moss, Irish yew, and graveyard dirt. For Dr. Jeremiah Arkham, in honor of the 'slightly crazed' aspect, I'd go with Cathode as (on me, at least) it was a lunatic mint-ozone. For his name alone, I have to recommend the scent Arkham. Cathode - From Bewitching Brews: A negatively charged scent. Ambergris, Spanish Moss, oakmoss and three electric mints. Arkham - From A Picnic In Arkham - A shadowy, unapproachable forest of maple, birch, dogwood, cypress and pine softened by a garland of New England wildflowers: bergamot, columbine, rue anemone, blue violet, creeping phlox, bloodroot, toadflax, and pixie moss. For Kirk Langstrom, the description reminded me of Wings of Azrael, but that scent might not be the one you're after. For something a little heavier on the 'mad scientist' vibe, I'd go with Galvantic Goggles or Smokestack. Wings of Azrael - From Ars Moriendi: Warm myrrh swirled with a bittersweet blend of violet, Lily of the Valley, juniper, cypess and cajeput. Galvantic Goggles - From Steamworks: Metallic notes with Indian musk, tobacco flower, and African balsam. Smokestack -From Steamworks - Creosote, coal, and industrial waste. --------------------------- I've played a vampiric character for a few years now, and in the role-play, they have been described as smelling like cinnamon (or melange, if you're familiar with Dune). Does anyone know of a sexy-spicy scent with an emphasis on cinnamon or cloves, or something just generally autumn/Halloweenie? The closest I've found so far is Bengal, and any recommendations would be appreciated. Edited September 9, 2009 by Dominique Share this post Link to post

It's my goto spice scent for when I want something a little darker than the average cinnamon stuff (there's a lot of black pepper in it on my skin) - or maybe The Smiling Spider, which is 100% goth club clove smoke and velvet on me (but YMMV). Three Witches isn't that easy to get hold of but if the reviews sound right to you, I probably have some lying around you could have, I like enabling people. And vampires.
