    Bayou

A languid, humid day. Spanish moss dripping from trees, and sunlight-dappled water at the base of cyprus trees. This reminds me of driving to New Orleans to visit friends who still live there, and that first moment of smelling the bayou & swamps along I-10—we always rolled down the windows so we could breath that scent in deeply. A definate keeper for the summer months, although I don't normally wear florals or acquatics.

Recs for Role-Playing Games (RPG), LARP and Cosplay

I love everyone in our group... but not enough to share Le Fee Verte with them! Think I'll probably get an imp set or two of just Absinthe, and then a smattering of the other suggestions to share. Also, some Villian so the (few) guys don't feel left out. Thanks for the ideas, y'all!

Recs for Role-Playing Games (RPG), LARP and Cosplay

Those are some really good suggestions. Thanks! :-)
  4. There's a Moulin Rouge costumers gathering every Friday night at DragonCon in the Hyatt lobby, after a "primping" party in one of our hotel rooms. As party favors this year, I was thinking of giving people BPAL imps. Aside from Absinthe, which is already on the list, what scents seem fitting for wearing at the Moulin Rouge? My list so far: Absinthe Bordello Paris Belle Epoque

    Jester

Huckleberry and red currant with the incisive bite of neroli. I'm reminded of going huckleberry picking in the woods across the road from my grandparents' house as a child. The tiny blue-black berries. Sticky fingers and purple tongues. My little sister eating all the berries she picks, and filling up her bucket from Dad's when he isn't looking. Bees lazing through the warm summer air. Racing with my cousins to see which of us could pick the most berries. Fresh huckleberry pie coming out of the oven and my grandmother's amazing huckleberry preserves. And after wearing this out last night, this is definately going on my Big Bottle list if it wasn't already. A fellow regular at my favorite bar glued himself to my side whenever Davin wasn't around, after sniffing my wrist. Even one of the bartenders flirted with me more than usual, and he's an avowed flirt.

    Alice

While she's a dear girl, Alice and I don't get along. She starts out in the vial a lovely sweet, milky tea with a hint of soft pink roses, and morphs into sickly carnation soap on my skin. Sigh. Thanks to jj_j for the imp, though.

    O

In the imp, this is a lovely honey-vanilla twined with something that must be the amber. On me? As Davin so kindly put it, "It smells like an old lady scent." Definately not sexy. I think it must be the amber and my skin, because I haven't had problems yet with honey or vanilla notes. Oh, well.

    Snake Oil

Comforting, yet exotic. Overdosed on Snake Oil yesterday morning. Mom and I pick out the spices, while my Dad and one of my best friends apparently only notice the vanilla (must be a guy thing). And Todd didn't sniff it until several hours later, an attestment to how much throw and staying power this has on me when I use more than just two or three drops. The mix of the two---vanilla and spices---is kind of like a bakery, an Indonesian bakery. Not that I've ever been in one. ;-) The vanilla is the comforting note, and the spices are the exotic notes. Overall, I'm really glad I got a Big Bottle of this. A nice, sexy scent that doesn't feel like it has only one purpose (Pink Moon only gets worn with pink clothing, Somnus gets worn at night, etc).

    Katharina

This brings to mind eating fresh apricots (or peaches, or any juicy fruit) outside on a beautiful day with someone you're interested in, playfully licking the nector off of your fingers—or perhaps their chin. Very lighthearted and playful yet in control of the situation. I agree with heartbeastabout this being the Katharina from the end of the play, mischevious & sassy as opposed to bitchy & shrewish. Definately a "young at heart" kind of scent, and something I'm going to include on my work scents list.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

After one sniff, my SO has decided that he likes King of Clubs. And is quite put out with me for only buying one bottle of it, after finding out it's an LE. So.... anything similar from the regular catelogue scents? He likes the "spicyness" (my nose hasn't detected which note in particular it is yet).

    Bravery, Courage, Confidence, Intimidation, Power

Thanks for the suggestions, y'all. Funnily enough, most of them are already on my "to sample in the future" list.
  12. Does anyone have suggestions for appropriate workplace scents? Within the next two months I'll be moving up into management if things go well, and I'd like to have a new fragrance to go along with it. Something with confidence, with a strong & capable feel to it. I've got imps of White Rabbit, Katherina, Dragon's Milk, Mata Hari, Eve, and Snake Oil on order, if that helps. I tend to be drawn towards vanilla fragrances, but also like gardenia, some roses, honey, citrus and pear. And am quite open to suggestions that contain none of the above.
