Clytemnestra v3

Recommended Posts

Being Greek of course I had to get a perfume named Clytemnestra. This definitely doesn't disappoint; it's a shadowy, scent worthy of its namesake. There is rose in here, but it's a dark, velvety rose that is soft and subtle, no dry screeching rose that makes me sneeze. It could possibly be white rose too, which I may have interprted as dark because of the other dark florals. The rose really just lays a backdrop for other dark and exotic florals--to my nose it seems like tuberose and a dark type or orchid though I could be wrong. There may even be a hint of violet. These are really the stars of the scent along with a bit of dark fruit that I'm taking to be blackcurrant, maybe even a hint of plum; there is definitely a "purple" feel here but it's more like a purple-tinged twilight rather than a juicy/fruity purple. It actually reminds me of Autumn and Winter without the cold/fallen leaves elements with the gauzy, enigmatic quality of Kataskopia that I adore.

I think the fruit here is ... apple? Plus definitely some exotic florals. I agree with Invidiana that there is orchid, although I don't think tuberose - it doesn't smell sweet enough. Overall, it starts as a fruity/dark floral blend but the fruit goes away and it ends as an exotic floral blend. It reminds me most of black orchid or Lune Noir in my collection. Very pretty, and definitely a keeper!

In some ways this really reminds me to Lune Noire and Morgause. It's the dark, sultry scent. There's hints of fruitiness in it (I would venture into plum), rose and black orchid.

Dark, mysterious, sultry.

My decant of this doesn't really smell too dark or fruity, especially at first. It goes on reminding me of laundry soap and spring flowers, all sharp and clean, and dries down to a smoky, darker, but still very perfumey floral on my skin. I'm not great with florals, but I don't think I'm getting any rose.. maybe a perfumey orchid like the one in Shadow Witch Orchid.

Moody, heady black florals over dark water. At the top edge I catch a wet fruit that could be blackberry, plum, or pomegranate; on the skin there's a winey rose and sulty orchid. At the bottom I catch a note that's not quite an aquatic but more of a... water musk, if there were such a thing. I get a cool, lingering blue musk on my skin the next day.

Sadly-for-me, this blend might contain one of my death notes (honey or myrrh), since it goes sour on my skin.

Verdict: extremely dark, feminine floral with blue musk and myrrh/honey underpinnings. I recommend seeking it out if those traits appeal to you, because it's lovely and I'd keep it were it not for the chemistry mismatch.

Wet: Dark and fruity. I think I get some pomegranate, which worries me, because it doesn't do well on my skin in dry down. It's nice wet though. There are some heady dark florals in here, and this is totally fitting that "dark fruity floral" category that I love.

Dry: I like this. Not sure if I love it, I will need to wear it a full day. It's much softer than I anticipated. A dark fruity floral, for sure. In the same vein as Lucille Sharpe on me, but lighter. Could be I didn't slather enough either. It's beautiful and sinister at the same time, and each time I sniff my wrist it actually grows on me. I can't identify the florals or fruits to save my life, it's so well blended. Very nice! Glad I tried it.
