Jingo-Kogo v6

Recommended Posts

I now understand the hype. Jingo-Kogo lives up to all the good press and then some. Orange creamsicles and then vanilla musk. Reminds me of Haloes and Underpants.

Okay, I am REALLY starting to be convinced that my nose is broken.

I do get both citrus and a creamy, vanilla-y smell from Jingo Kogo, so I can see where the orange creamsicle comparisons are coming from. But it wasn't the first thought into my head--although, to be fair, the first thought in my head was "oh no, why do I love something this rare this much?!"

The blend remains relatively unmorphed on me from imp to drydown, except for the sandalwood becoming stronger/being less drowned out. It's cool and light and wonderful, with a depth to it that surprised me at first, given the citrus-y topnotes.

Maybe I am insane, but I distinctly smelled something almost anise-y (the "something astringent" from the other reviews?) when I put this on, and it lingers. It's extremely faint, but it's there. I also keep catching wafts of something that reminds me very strongly of cucumber--in fact, the notes I jotted when I first tried this weren't orange creamsicle, they were "anise, cucumber." After that I added "citrus, and vanilla." There is, as others have noted, a light floral, but while I am crappy at identifying all notes I am totally useless at florals, so I couldn't hazard a guess as to what exactly it is. My nose has a habit of confusing very light, clean florals with cucumbers, so maybe that's where I got that impression.

The drydown, I do get a sandalwood base, very clearly. Whether it's actually sandalwood or not I don't know, but the rest of the reviews make me feel comfortable with calling it that. The vanilla ripens up beautifully too, with wear, and it becomes just a bit easier to see where orange creamsicle is coming from.

I could wear this every day, quite happily. I don't know if it would ever dethrone my favourites, but it is stunning. I'll hoard this imp up drop by drop.

I've heard a couple people compare this to Haloes. Guess I better try to get my hands on some. The more I wear this the more obsessed I become.

So gorgeous.

Seriously, where am I getting the anise from?

Got this as a tester from a recent swap with unlaced (thanks again!), and there's just enough for a skin test. In the imp, this smells vaguely like Lilith v. The Giant Crab; some bright citrus combining with vanilla for a creamsicle sort of effect. There's just enough for a small patch test on the back of my thumb, and it's an amazing orange-vanilla scent with a hint of musk. ...Aaand fuck me. This is going to be another DISO, isn't it?

It`s amazing as everyone is writing. Delicate and ethereal but persistent, creamy, citrusy with a base of a delicate lace of sandalwood that stay and stay well after the orange note faded out. It`s a two drops oil for me and on the second application it`s perfect. It makes me calm and meditative, yet alert.

I was gifted a 1/2 decant of this from my BPAL Santa last month. And it is as lovely as I had hoped. I'm also getting that light orange creamsicle over vanilla musk scent. Very light and delicate.

It does remind me quite a bit initially of Lilith vs. the Giant Crab, but LVGC takes on an aquatic quality shortly after application that is not present here with Jingo-Kogo.

If only this had been released...*sigh* :wub2:

This smells very yummy. I'm guessing there's a hint of cedar in there, but I could be totally wrong. And, as everyone said, orange blossom and vanilla. Very yummy, but it actually reminds me of a commercial fragrance, just less perfume-y. Like maybe one by Lolita Lempicka?

Another case of letting the tester dry up and barely having oil to sniff on skin...everything is very faint, but I smell sandalwood, musky orange, and creamy vanilla. Its not the same cream in Underpants because I'm not getting that funk that cream notes tend to smell like on my skin.

ETA now that I have a tester to review properly:

Orange creamsicle with a base of sandalwood. I can't describe how perfect this scent is in it's simplicity.

I don't think my review was much different than it was the first time. :P

The Legend. Wow.

I like this but it's definitely not love.

It goes on with a sandalwood/orange vibe. After a bit, the orange settles into what it truly is: orange blossom. A beautiful orange blossom at that. The sandalwood is a dry one but not too dry, so probably not white sandalwood. There is a creaminess to this but it isn't overpowering or sweet at all. I get glowing amber as well, not powdery in the slightest. It dries down to a very lovely scent that sticks fairly close to the skin but stays around a long time on me. The musk in here is white.

To be honest, the drydown, to me, is very much like that of Loosening of the Obi. If you like JK, I would definitely try that before it goes away.

I think I put off reviewing this one for so long because I wanted to be able to fully capture it in words, but words are exactly that so here goes.

At first I get a bright citrusy note which must be mandarin orange backed by something vanillic to get a vaguely "creamsicle" effect like others have described. It may seem that's what it will stay as, but it begins to morph right away. The citrus gradually fades to the background allowing for a glorious creamy note--possibly rice milk as a previous reviewer mentioned, maybe a type of cream note that isn't buttery--to emerge. Whatever it is the creamy note has a light sweentes to it but isn't overly sweet. I'm wondering if the vanilla in this, because there must be at least one type of vanilla element, is a vanilla orchid similar to the one in Opuhi, which is almost foody but not quite, though not fully floral. As it dries down further I get a gentle sandalwood and musk. I'm thinking that the musk must be a skin musk though there may be white musk in there too, which may also contribute to the vanillic feel. The combination of all these elements is just gorgeous; sophisticated but not stuffy, sweet but not saccharine, soft but not faint, sensual but not smutty (though I do love my smutty scents too ;) ). Even though it isn't a heavy scent it has great staying power, lasting about 8 hours on me. It really is a treasure worthy of saving to wear on all the right occasions.

Holy Grail, where have you been?

I get a faint citrus in the bottle, but when I put it on, it's full out floral, vanilla and musk. That floral? Orange blossom, most definitely. And I can tell the throw on this one is going to last a long time, too.

I smell gooooood! :wub2:

At first, I get a musky, woody vanilla orange. This is pretty much love at this point. Dry, more orange, less sandalwood. Ergh, now it is very similar to Lilith vs. The Giant Crab on me. I'll have to do a side by side, but it is extremely similar, and it is what I thought of after it dried on me. I wish it had stayed how it was wet on, as it was unique to any other bpal I've tried. I do like this, but it is definitely not a HG scent for me, and those who are curious, Lilith vs. is very similar.

ETA: I just had to add, I did one wrist JK, and the other Lilith vs, and while there is a similarity, Lilith falls flat after a couple of hours. I put Jingo Kogo on before bed, so I probably missed a few hours of the total perfume experience. I applied at 7:30, and at 12:30, she is still going strong, but as other reviewers noted, it is a musky vanilla with a touch of lovely mandarin. This is very nice, and yes, I would buy a bottle or three if it were ever released. BUT, there are other Bpal vanilla's that are very nice in their own right and on the same vein or feel. Lyonesse and Morocco come to mind, (as well as the oranginess of Lilith vs) though different, have the same vibe.

This little review has quite a story to tell. A few weeks ago--maybe two months, or even more!--I became friends with a lovely lady through her sales post. She was such a dear and sent me testers of a good chunk of her collection, which included hard-to-find blends! She gave me a dry sniffie of JKv6, or it wasn't dry before she sent it, but it was dry when it reached me! I was perfectly all right with it--it still smelled divine, and confirmed to me that I needed to skin-test this beauty, stat. Upon learning that it was dry, she straightaway sent me ANOTHER SNIFFIE. In the middle of this second package, another super-lovely friend sent me a fairy package...which INCLUDED a sniffie of JKv6 too!

So you might say this was meant to be. :) I delayed in testing, however, because I was not feeling well for a time there. When I finally did...well, you will find out.

In tester: oh wow. Orange, dusky, slightly musky, but it's sweet in a non-candylike way. Just...sweet, slightly honeyed in feel. Lovely. Winner. Must skin-test. MUST!!

Wet on skin: creamy, slightly musky and full orange. OHHHHH, super love. A nice sweetness, but it's not candyish, more of a honey sort of sweetness that blends well. A deep, full, womanly orange, though "womanly" isn't something you would usually say about an orange scent! Very, very pretty. LOVVVVEEEEE.

Dry: light throw, pleasing and..."adult"? This is colored by my experience with the "creamsicle" PL176, which I love, but is a bit too childish a lot of times. So this is like an older and age-appropriate PL176, creamy and vanilla-ey and resinous and musky and sexy and sweet without going into candy territory. Light throw, will probably need to reapply, but I am now super itching to find myself a wearable amount!! It's dried to a nice, sexy orange-y scent, creamy and slightly resinous in just the way I like it.

Verdict: SUPER WIN, omg. This also kind of makes me weep, because I've seen a couple bottles on sale before and it's always gone for more than my BPAL bottle budget, which is fairly high already. Okay, it's nowhere near Storyville high, but...SORRY I AM RAMBLING. BUT, THIS IS LOVE. THAT IS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW.

Many thanks to the amazing frimper! :wub2:

Black Opal with orange. Well that was the shortest review ever. XD

It's very pretty, but fades quickly on my skin. I'm going to be needing a bottle to slather.

Really excited to be getting to try this!!!

Wet: Powdery orange. Damn my skin chemistry! I knew this would be iffy, based on it having orange in it, but I somehow still hoped it would work. I may have been sadly mistaken. There's this floral vanilla scent coming from under the powdery orange that is TO DIE FOR. I'm going to let this settle on my skin a while.

Dry: Soft powdery vanilla and orange. Disappointingly underwhelming on me. I will find my decant a home with someone who will love it better. Glad to have gotten to try it!
