Banana Peel in a Graveyard

Recommended Posts

A banana peel discarded among tombstones and crypts.

Wet it smells like dirt with something fruity in the background. On my skin it smells like sweet fruit but not specifically banana and some dirt. Then it's dirt and something rotten.

I get a sweet, somewhat plastic, banana from this, and heaping amounts of moist dirt (such as Graveyard Dirt). While it is an.. interesting blend, it's not really something I see myself wearing.

In the bottle, this smells just like Graveyard Dirt to me: pure loamy soil. The banana came out and mingled for a short while when I first applied it, but on drydown it's all dusty oakmoss.

In the vial: Sweet dirt!

Wet: Fresh dirt and bananas...bruised and ripe. This isn't a scary, nail polish-scented banana, it's pretty accurate. I'm really into this banana note!

Dry: Awww...as this dries the banana starts to go sour on my skin :cry2: I had such high hopes! There is still a nice, soft note of dirt. Everything is nicely anchored down by a drop of patchouli.

Verdict: I WISH the banana didn't go sour on me! I really love the way this smells wet and the way the dirt plays off of the other notes (minus the banana) when this is dry. Very creative scent idea though! :)

No nuances here...this smells like rotten banana and damp dirt...I wouldn't wear it, but it definitely lives up to the description from the lab!

bottle: very strong dirt with a light hint of ripe banana in the background.

wet: this almost smells like dirt and patchouli when applied, the sweet banana stays in the background.

dry: the banana scent vanishes leaving this a dark, brooding dirt scent.

In the Vial: Strong banana! Dirt! And something dirtier than dirt. *nose wrinkles* Patchouli? Is that you?

Wet: Again, super strong banana. And dirt. Cold, damp, dirt.

Drydown: The two very separate banana and dirt notes seem to have blended together more now, but they're definitely still noticeable.

Verdict: I typically hate bananas. The fruit, the smell, the taste, all of it. And I really hate dirt scents. But somehow, this blend really works. And I thought so. Various people thought it smelled great on me. Until I let my mom sniff it. Her nose winkled and she said it just smelled like medicine. Now I can't get that association outta my head. Sigh.

I totally expected to open this imp and get overwhelming banana action. This did not happen. It's a BEAUTIFUL earthy scent - and I may be the only one on this - graham crackers. Earthy graham crackers is an unexpected delight. Never in a million years would I have guessed that I would love this so much. This is my favorite Gaiman scent I've had the chance to sniff and I believe also one of my favorite earth/dirt scents I've come across as well. :wub2:

Oh, weird! This is totally the banana note from Manila + Graveyard Dirt! On first application, the banana is clear and punchy sweet, but in a minute this becomes sweetness and dirt, dirt, dirt. In the end, it's a nice waft of sweetened earth. I love how evocative this is.

This smells identical to B Never Too Busy To B Beautiful's Ladyboy fragrance. Nearing rip-off territory, actually. I guess I already own a bottle of this fragrance, in parfum form.

Both have a strong banana liqueur top note over a musty base. The only real difference is that Banana Peel in a Graveyard fades much faster.

Rotting, sweetish Banana's in an old basement in a very old house. I couldn't pass this up, I love the dirt smells! the dirt in this actually stays on me and the banana just turns faintly fruity. It is an amazing intepretation and I feel that its scents like this that show Beth and the Lab's true talents. Fan-freaking-tastic!

The first time I tried this, I thought it was rancid bananas...just awful on my skin. I put it away with my other unloved imps, to be traded, gifted, or sold.

I don't know what possessed me, but I took this imp back out today..

It's actually surprisingly kind of nice.

In the bottle: Straight up bananas. This is downright tropical, but I noticed that last time, too.

Wet on skin: Heavy on the banana. Does not smell nearly as rancid as I remember. In fact, dare I say, it smells good! I smell "dirt" and "earth" in the background.

Dry: A perfect blend of earthy and fruity. This scent still smells pretty much like bananas to me, but the pachouli is coming out heavily as well. I do catch an after note of dirt, but it's certainly not unwearable. Although this will never be a favorite and I may indeed swap it, it's progressed to average in my mind. Maybe even above average. I'm not opposed to wearing it myself, though, and I bet it'd be amazing in fall.

Yep, that is the Lab's signature dirt note with creamy, candied banana. It is bizarre, to say the least. I'm strangely attracted to the idea of earth with fruit notes (I love the dirt/black cherry of Earth Phoenix, for example), and I do like this in its early stages. Something about the warm blackness of the graveyard dirt and the dissonance of the soft banana note strikes me as interesting. BUT on the long term dry-down, this somehow turns into manly-strong-man-cologne on me, to the point where I wondered if it had morphed into The Convocation instead.

Banana Peel in a Graveyard

On: Lovely sweet banana with cold, wet stone and maybe a hint of moss.

1 hour in: Tons of stone, which reminds me of black opal, but with a not-quite-ripe banana scent.

2.5 hours in: Mostly stone, but with a hint of ripe banana.

3.5 hours in: Cold stone and black dirt.

5 hours in: All stone and dirt.

Overall: This slowly turns to Graveyard Dirt on me. It's definitely not the long-lasting banana scent I'm on the hunt for.

Digging up some old Imps, found this decant. Here goes...

First on: Dirt with a light hint of bananas. I'm genuinely impressed with how good the Lab's "dirt" note is, it really does smell like soil!

Drydown: The soil goes a bit manky, the banana peel is rotting now.

Dry: Better balanced, certainly "dirt and banana". An intriguing scent but I don't think it's for me.

This scent is so bizarre, so crazily accurate, that I can't help but smile every time I smell it. I was scared that the banana note would be plasticky or overly sweet, but it isn't- this is the scent of a banana peel, sweet but also slightly green, that has just this moment been discarded on the ground. And that ground! Fresh, loamy, rich soil that has piled up next to wet, crumbling granite. I seriously can't wrap my head around how such a specific, peculiar scent was captured so masterfully. Is this a perfume I would put on if I want to feel sexy, or alluring, or powerful? No, it isn't. It's something I would want to wear when I need to grin, when I want to giggle with wonder every time I catch a whiff of my wrists. Very evocative scent. Thumbs up to Beth for creating this strange little masterpiece.

I love the book SO MUCH and the idea of this scent really appeals to me, much more than the thought of wearing banana perfume actually does, but I am giving it a go!

Wet: Banana and dirt! What a neat scent! It makes me smile for some reason. It really does smell exactly like a banana peel, dropped in the dirt and dust of a cemetery.

Dry: Sadly the sweet banana fades away to nothing, leaving a really dry, crumbling earth scent that I don't enjoy as much as other first scents. It was really great when wet, but not something I would wear on my skin once fully dry. Neat though! So glad I got to try it.

Bananna quickly calms down to wet stone and rich dark earth (very faint banana then, must press nose to wrist). It's definitely what it says on the tin. It isn't something I'll probably reach for in the summer, but fall? Rainy weather? Spot on.
