Bloodlust

Recommended Posts

A fiery Martial blend that embodies primal rage, lust for conquest, and all-encompassing desire. Dragon’s blood essence, heavy red musk, Indonesian patchouli and swarthy vetiver with a drop of cinnamon.

I really, really wish that this had smelled anything like what it apparently does on other people on me. :P

It smelled OK in the vial -- if anything, a little on the earthy/masculine side. But when I put it on - ye Gods! It went brutally sweet in seconds. I smelled like I'd been attacked by the entire perfume section of a department store. Not unlike Dragon's Heart, which has some of the same ingredients, and Snake Oil.

Like those, it eventually settled down to something bearable, and then eventually pleasant, and it actually took less time to do so than either of them -- the initial assault was over with in about ten minutes, and it's now basically vetiver with a bare touch of amber and maybe dragon's blood, I think. But it's also fading away really fast, and it hasn't even been a full hour yet.

*sigh* I really wish I could have smelled what everyone else did with this. I'm starting to think that red musk hates me, or maybe the combination of red musk and dragon's blood. I guess have to try a few more oils with one or the other of those notes to be sure what's doing it.

Grade: C-

In the imp and first applied, dragon's blood with a hint of jasmine.

Drydown, I get nothing but dragon's blood and nothing else, other than it goes a bit powdery, which I'm guessing is the patchouli, as it sometimes does that on my skin.

Nice enough, decent throw and seems not to fade much...But yep, nothing but dragon's blood on me.

ETA: Two & a half hours or so later this has morphed into a light, soft, almost vanilla creaminess. Little to no throw. Again, nice, but not big bottle worthy(as much as I hoped for it to be).

If you love red musk, this is a great scent for you. Tres sexy and you can indeed smell the dragon's blood and cinnamon in this blend. For added fun it goes on your skin leaving a red smear, something like real blood (potential stain alert). It has a sort of iron/copper tang just like blood. Just trying Bloodlust made me feel like a vampire. Mmmm, the vulnerable throbbing of your neck, m'dear, it reminds me of your....

In the imp: Very strong Crest toothpaste smell mixed with rotting garbage.

Wet: Strong somewhat fruity scent with a little spice. Not pleasant but not horrible yet.

Dry: Strong cinnamon making my skin itch. Then there's the peanut butter and jelly smell.

Overall: Do NOT like the blend, will NOT wear ever again. Away!

In the bottle:

Slightly astringent

On me:

Well I'll be damned. This is the first blend I've tried with dragon's blood where the dragon's blood didn't totally take over the scent. This IS primarily patchouli on me though, so it has that earthy dark quality to it. The cinnamon and musk really warm this up and smooth out that earthy patchouli, making this slightly more sensual.

Final note:

Dark red would be this scents color for certain. Patchouli lovers will no doubt like this one! Kind of like Anne Bonny's rougher older brother.

Right out of the imp, I loved Bloodlust. It was all cinnamon and dragon's blood, and it worked well for me.

Wet on my skin and throughout drydown, the cinnamon died a quick death, and something else came out to play. Maybe patchouli? Vetiver? I still really liked the Dragon's blood note, but the patchouli/vetiver thing? Not so much.

Dry, the patchouli/vetiver thing was almost gone, leaving a very nice dark musk that smells glorious on my husband. But I'm bothered by the dominant notes wet on my skin and during drydown, so this won't be a bottle purchase for me.

Ouch, vetiver! Ouch, ouch, ouch it's poking me! I can't smell the other notes at all, just a hard as nails vetiver that is making me sad. I wanted cinnamonny 'chouli goodness. :P

I don't think my skin plays well with vetiver, but if yours does, I'll bet this is fabulous for you.

Bloodlust reminded me of Sin for some reason, and I had a similar ack-get-it-off-right-now reaction at first. But about 10 minutes later the patchouli assault ended and I was left with something unidentifiable and "red" smelling. Makes sense since it IS red, but it calms down into something I like. Sweet and like, well, blood, it's unique. Not something I would wear often, but enough to keep the imp.

Wet: Grapes and resin.

Drydown: The grape becomes a more generalized sweetness, the resin develops into musk. Mmm, and dragon's blood, such a great scent.

Dry: This is almost too much patchouli for me, but it's a good blend for enriching the wonderful smell of dragon's blood.

I put off trying my imp of Bloodlust because I was convinced that it would be too much. Even in the imp it looks overwhelming---it's a bright dark candy red, like Snow White's apple. And then there was the vetiver, which is an iffy note at best on me.

But this weekend, in the name of fair and unbiased science, I decided I should try it out. Dear Lord, this stuff is sexy. It's like Sin, if Sin spent the weekend screwing Dragon's Blood in a motel. This should be a controlled substance. Were I to encounter a man wearing this, I would not be responsible for my actions, nor would society require me to be (the Olfactory Plea in legal parlance).

I don't even mind the vetiver here, which is shocking in and of itself!

In the bottle: patchouli, dragon’s blood, and vetiver. This may be the first time that I felt I could definitely identify everything I was smelling in a scent; it’s almost as if they are all spelled in CAPITAL LETTERS. WITH FULL STOPS.

On the skin: wow, that vetiver really jumps off of me big time. I can tell already that this is going to be too smoky to be a favorite with me—I can’t deal with smoky smells. This literally smells like a campfire. Which I love when I’m out camping, but not on me.

Half an hour later: this is still all smoke on me, which is kind of making me feel sick. I can detect that sweet, strong dragon’s blood in the background, but only faintly, and not enough to not make me feel sick from the smoke. I think that a person who likes vetiver will LOVE this, though. (In fact, I had a friend test this who likes vetiver, and yes she does. Love it.)

On a scale of 1 to 5: 2.

I got this as a frimp in my last order.

Quite honestly, I was afraid to try it! Its very scary in the imp. It looks like blood and it had stained where it met the cap.

The dragons blood and the sandalwood are what stands out in the imp. On my skin (and it went on RED on my wrist! lol) the dragon's blood blends well with the red musk.

The imp still scares me :P

In bottle: musky, smoky dragon's blood

Wet: very smoky, like smoldering ash and like a soapy floral(?)

Dry: very very smoky; too much patchouli for me. the DB almost disappears. the scent did have a nice throw, just too bad my skin hates patchouli.

Imp: Fiery and resins galore. This is a fiesty scent, to be sure.

On (wet): Ouch! This one is so fiesty, it burns. The cinnamon and the dragon's blood are fighting for dominance at this stage. This is a very potent blend with LOTS of throw. The musk is also prevalent at this stage, but not so much as the other two.

Dry: This smolders on me. Reminds me of hot coals in winter. The cinnamon dies down a bit, leaving sweet dragon's blood and musk as the main notes, the vetivert adding a bit of a nose-twitching piquancy and the patchouli grounding this blend so it doesn't go completely inferno.

Overall, I gifted this puppy to one of my best friends. It didn't really work for me or my hubby. It was FAR too hot for our tastes. It does bring to mind the Scottish tribes and their penchant for goading themselves into a frenzied bloodlust prior to battle. Very hot, searing scent. Just not me.

dragon’s blood, plus something dark and smoky and smoldering. i’m not picking up the patchouli. to me, it smells more like it’s got cedar or some kind of charred wood. the cinnamon adds spiciness and more heat. neat, but not “me.”

My first ever big bottle--I can't get enough of this scent.

In the bottle, I get the maraschino cherries thing, but somehow without being sweet or candylike. It's strong, and when I first sniffed it, I was sure it was going to be sickly-sweet and medicinal on. Not at all the case! The cherries hang around for a while, growing more tart and being perked up by a sparkling spiciness as the dragon's blood warms and the fragrance rounds out. Slowly, it morphs into rich, mouth-watering redness--red musk, red blood, red spice, red fruit--with earthy black patchouli, a teeny barb of vetiver, and tingling skin scents. It's gothy, very very slightly resinous, rich and sweet, but not sweet like candy or fruit or even incense. Makes me think of the ancient sexual priestesses at the height of a holy orgy, or of being tied down to a bed with thick burgundy velvet curtains all around. It's at once bodily and unearthly.

After the first five minutes where it managed to change every sniff or so, it settled down for a "BAM! RED HOTS!" scent wherein I felt like I was bathing in liquid Red Hots. After awhile the sharp cinnamon smell calmed down and a smoky sort of smell (very faint) peaked out from underneath. But just as I was really starting to enjoy the scent, it turned into pure powder on me. I just smelled like baby powder. There was hardly even a hint of cinnamon or anything anymore.

Sigh, I had high hopes for this one, too.

Wow... Dragon's blood and cinnamon in the bottle, then it hits my skin and the musk and patchouli come out. Can't stop sniffing my wrist. Finally, it dries down and I'm left with a deep incensey musk.

To me this does have that sexy quality that many have mentioned, but, it's a "I feel grounded and totally sexy"feeling rather than lust.

I've got to get a big bottle of this. THIS is my 'writing smut' scent. My fandoms bless you, Beth. :P

In the imp: Earth, musk, cinnamon. Hm.

Wet: Earth and cinnamon--with something spicy-sweet.

Dry 5 minutes: smokey-sweet heat. The cinnamon has gone to the background, the patchouli has come up a bit and the musk and the dragons blood are heavenly.

Dry 30 minutes: I can't stop sniffing myself. At first I was like 'and other people feel like...biting things??' and now I'm very much 'omg, Mr. Circe come over here so I can BITE INTO YOU'.

Dry 1 hour: Sweet incense with something hot and dark roughing it up. This scent means to push you down and have its way with you. And I'm all about that, yay! It's got a good throw on it, but not something overpowering. It's sly and sexy and a little wicked.

Dry 2+ hours: Very much the same as hour one, though I think it gets sweeter with time. Mr. Circe had an interesting observation on this one: It's one of those scents that grabs the other person by the collar (almost tenderly) and very calmly tells them that they are in trouble of the very best sort.

Dry 4 hours and then some: It does get sweeter as time goes by. The spice and the heat and the smoke are still there, but like a bloodlust that's been sated.

Bottom line: This is a scent to wear when you feel (or want to feel) sexy and powerful and sly. It is, honestly, a great scent for writing fandom porn.

I haven't tried this on Mr. Circe yet but I'm veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery tempted. Will update if/when I do and let you know how it works on He-Who-Holds-Incense-Notes-Well

Bloodlust

Sharp and heavy at first. I could definitely smell the red musk, patchouli, and vetiver. As it dries, the dragon's blood starts to come out and it takes a floral turn. Ultimately not as strong or heavy as I initially thought it would be. Not bad overall, though not exactly a keeper either.

just got my imps. yay.

first thought, in the bottle: whoa. cinnamon. yuck

on: still cinnamon...idunno~ (i had mixed it with a dab of unscented lotion, not sure if this dilluted it too much)

later, another try straight up: whoa. its not so cinnamon! spicy, warm, a bit sexual, i like this. i can imagine a man wearing this for some reason, it would be very hot on a man indeed :P

i can't pick out all the notes, but spicy, warm, and incensey describe it to me

Pretty much just a drop of dragonsblood with cinnamon. Luckily a more calm cinnamon than other blends. But what little patchouli I smell drowns in the cinnamon. not my style, but a cinnamon fan would love this, I think!

Oh man, I love this... so naturally it turns the GF's stomach. Beautiful mix of dragon's blood, musk, and patchouli, with just a touch of cinnamon. Not noticing the vetiver though. I'm sure this will get compliments at the club, but given the GF's reaction I'll have to apply after I go out the door and shower as soon as I get home.

Red musk, sandalwood, cinnamon. Bloodlust reminds me a lot of Blood Moon, only woodier and drier. I'm not sure where I'm getting the sandalwood, but it smells very strong to me.

The dragon's blood is very faint-- it's almost undetectible, but it adds sweetness while the oil is drying, and then disappears.

After a while this is mostly vetiver, patchouli, and red musk. It's very dry, warm, comforting, and sexy. I love it... it's in my top 10. :P
