The essence of pleasure heightened by pain: the raw scent of leather.

This sure does smell like leather. In the imp, on me, drydown- all leather. It reminds me of walking through the vender isles at the motorcycle show. It's interesting, but I can't think of a time when I'd want to smell like leather...

De Sade is leather, indeed. It goes on leathery and pretty much stays true. There's a touch of tobacco in what I'm scenting here. It's awfully sexy and tough and all those things, but sadly, not very me. It's wonderful, though.

This is a hard, hard leather. It's nothing like garment leather, nothing even really like a leather jacket. The nearest item I can liken it to is my chaps, sun-baked after a long ride and heated by the engine, with road-dust streaking them.

It's an interesting scent, one of the purest leather scents I've ever come across. It's not for me, though, as the scent of leather when I'm wearing it is enough; I'm not particularly keen to recreate it.

Not what I was expecting, but better and more complex. It's not the all-leather scent I was looking for, but is sort of what I hoped Hellfire would be (Hellfire wound up powdery and too sweet on me).

During the first 45-60 seconds between opening the imp, slapping some on, and watching it melt into my wrist it morphed almost visibly about five or six times from chemical (I actually like this smell, like test-tube leather), to bandaids and something lewdly like sweaty ass, to something my boyfriend described as acrid (like stale cigarettes).

After all of that happened and it settled in, it became a sweetly sinister tobacco on me and isn't anything I would associate with leather (but I like it). We took a walk, my boyfriend and I, and I kept getting whiffs of his mint chewing gum blowing over my De Sade and I must say, it was a sexy combination. Very kinky.

It's definitely masculine, the kind of masculine I like wearing. I'm interested to see how it smells on my boyfriend -- it might wind up more leathery on him.

Edit: I should also mention it has great staying power on me, even through scrubbings.

In the vial: raw leather

On the skin: It's a smoky leather, like Beth just distilled leather into a bottle. Very very manly! If you like the scent of leather in any form, you'd like De Sade. I need a man to slather this on...

Yes, yes it is. Leather. I don't think I could wear this without layering it with something. I like the blends that contain leather as a note better than leather straight up. But if you like leather, go for it.

I love extremely feminine, floral scents, so I knew before I put this on that this wasn't going to work on me... and I was right. I smell like a leather couch. :P Hopefully this will work better on my boyfriend than on me.

In the bottle, this is slightly musky like an animal's hide - as in, still on the animal. Very warm and very sexy. Once on, this turns slightly peppery, a fresh new barely out of the shop leather. Very thick and heady, very very raw. This is leather that hasn't turned supple from wear, hasn't learned the curves of it's owner, hasn't experienced the wear of the seasons. Wet, this hasn't got as much throw as I anticipated which make me love it all the more. Dry, oh my! Dusty well cared for aged leather - this is a well worn and well loved saddle, soft and supple from use but still strong and beautiful; this is a leather bomber's jacket that's seen years of wear and survived stunts that left the wearer cringing at the memory of it, with the fleece so worn that it even smells like leather; this is a heavy overcoat to keep off the rain or tough chaps to protect the legs from the cheese-grater damage of concrete meeting flesh at 80mph. As it warms and begins to breathe, oooooh. The saddle analogy comes back strongly, as sun-warmed leather surrounded by a veritable haze of other leather tones, new and old and somewhere in between, live animals and drying hides and windbroken old tatters of leather so worn they are no longer soft at all but stiff and unusable. Oh this is HOT, there's no words for how extremely sexy this is, how sexy I feel in this. This scent here is the garb of a dominatrix, that tight dark burgandy leather that glistens, so accustomed to her body that it doesn't question anything she does. Just before she draws out her whip, before the pain starts - this is the hot sensual anticipation of demand and retribution for failure. This is... leather, in it's raw, untamed, physically empowering, sexually stimulating, grossly underestimated form. This... this is spicy, sexy, tongue-in-cheek porn in a bottle, ladies and gents. This is something I'd bathe in, if the opportunity arose.

This one is a full out 10, it had just the right amount of throw, it made me weak in the knees, it was sexy and tough and very very snarky about it all. :D :P

in the imp... all i smell is chemicals... sortof fake lemon industrial cleaner.

as it dries down... band-aids and wet half-smoked marlboro reds

finally it becomes the hard leather used in saddlebags, but the cheap kind. or like the patchwork purse your gramma had in the 80's...

not what i wanted it to be at all.

a lovely experiment, though

De Sade is pure leather. I love it. This is not a scent I would normally wear on its own, but I could see it being incredibly sexy on my husband. As nice as it is on its own, after the first time I tested it alone, I tested it again layered with Harlot, and oh my! That’s a phenomenal combination. It has really amazing staying power and while it stays fairly close to my skin, I occasionally get a waft of this uber-sexy scent and it makes me weak in the knees. This is sticking around, that’s for sure.

In the bottle: Very clean, polished black leather, with a breath of fresh aftershave.

Wet: Same as in the bottle, but deepening.

Drydown: Whoa, raw leather indeed! This is a nearly painful scent, very pure, shiny, sharp and bitter. This isn't soft, worn down leather from a chair, this is spanking new, hard leather. There's a touch of something fresh in the background, like a man's aftershave, which just contributes more to the strength of the blend.

Overall: I'm in love with this guy. Yes, it's a completely masculine blend, no, I don't think I could pull off wearing it. Actually, De Sade is the male counterpart of Loviatar - same leather, but fresh rather than hot. And oh, the layering that I can imagine with De Sade! It's unbelievably sexy, really pure leather, black, dark, and very domineering. The scent of a Dom, for sure, it just makes you want to be ravished and dominated.

Pure. Unadulterated. Hot. Leather.

There's nothing else to this scent, it's leather, just leather.

If only my husband liked it... *sniff*

On myself, I would prefer to combine it with O or another sweet fragrance just to get that naughty but nice scent.. perhaps this is why I love Spanked... mmmm Spanked..

Ohhhh. This is the element I liked most in Iago, before the black musk turned it to powder on me and made me cry. I'm new and not much practiced in identifying notes, so I didn't realize that it was the leather in Iago that I liked best. This is the delicious scent that I hoped would stay, with no sign of powder to break my heart. I'm so glad I decided to give it a try. Pure leather, like burying my face in a new jacket still hanging on the rack. Fantastic.

In the imp: Hey! Leather note from Iago, my good friend...it's always a pleasure to sniff you.

Wet: No change.

Drydown and wear: No change. Just how I like it. Man, this stuff makes me want to chew my arm off. I'd try this out on some of my male friends for curiosity's sake, but that would mean less of it for ME.

I don't know how one makes a scent that smells exactly like leather, but The Lab has succeeded. It's all leather. I think this would be a fun scent for layering; it would make or some unique fragrances.

This imp is circulating as part of the General Catalogue swap.

I've been testing lots of imps and I fear I have reached a saturation point because all I can smell is ozone and ozone only. Masculine.

Safe travels little imp.

Mmmmm, leather.

Later: Mmmmm, musky leather.

Mom thinks it smells like English Leather cologne. All I know is I need a bottle, now.

I don't think of De Sade as my sexy leather scent - that's Loviatar. Instead, this is the scent of an old leather jacket from a thrift store, very comforting. Yes, I know it's De Sade. I still think it smells comforting.

A friend ordered this. It certainly wasn't on my list; I mean, it's just leather. Why would I want to smell like leather? I'm not one of those people with a huge collection of leather, y'know, I've got a couple of leather jackets, but it just doesn't sound that interesting; how often do you want to smell like . . . *sniff*

:P

Wow. I love this scent.

In the imp: Leather. Straight leather, just like the description.

On the forearm, wet: This is sexy. This truly does smell like leather, pure and simple. In my mind it conjures images of Anubis in his leather jacket on stage at his last show, chunky boots, black leather jacket, leather pants, fishnet shirt....

On the forearm, dry: Very sexy. Very...very... sexy. Yeah.

Final Analysis: I love this scent, I'm going to go smother Anubis in it and hang around smelling him while he plays guitar. Until I can't take it anymore and he has no choice but to put the guitar down...

In the bottle: It's like Severin, a bit.

On me: Light-musky leather. Smells a lot like Severin to me, but more leathery. I know this review could be more descriptive, but it's a very straightforward (and amazingly accurate) reproduction of the smell of leather. But it's not just leather scraps in some tanner's shop remainder box, it's a really good-smelling leather. A... sexy leather.

Sigh, off to order yet another bottle! Life's rough.

The scent is rich, dark, spicy, almost-musky. When I first put this on my immediate reaction was that it was drastically a masculine scent and not for me. Given about an hour to let it soften on my skin though, it's addictively something I'd wear with my short skirt and high boots when gone clubbing. It reminds me of the smell of dancing late into the night in a swam of bodies. The scent is heady and evocative, definitely something Casse would have in her mixture.

I must try this on my boy after reading all the reviews of it on husbands though.

I had posted this in another thread... one about the scent most reviled or disliked, can't remember... I thought I'd reviewed this immediately after testing, but I guess I didn't.

So, here it is, in all of it's heartbreaking harsheness: MAJOR hurlage. a small weensy dab of it on that soft pad of skin between the thumb and forefinger... never morphed, never warmed, nada, zip zilch. I smelled something rather sleazy and unappealing when I opened the imp and went on blind faith that there'd be some skin chemistry to soften it or change it. Alas.... I had to scrub it off and get some peppermint tea to settle my stomach, it was that awful.

De Sade isn't for me... here's hoping that other scents with leather in them will. I envy those who can wear it and wear it well.

Guess what?! It smells like Leather!

:P

I like it overall, it's a sexy scent and I could imagine a guy wearing this easily or if I was going somewhere I wanted alittle attitude kick. It's a raw scent and there's nothing to sweeten the blow.

Not something I'd wear everyday, but I'm loving my imp.

Jenn
