    King of Diamonds

So I finally got a little net access... and what do I do... reviews!!!! I KoD but as someone said he doesn't last long He starts out like what I remember CKOne smelling like (its been a while...) fresh and clean and citrusy but not like the orange isle at the local grocery store Then as he dries he's wonderfully peach-y... Its nice... soft... very CLEAN smelling... will be nice for days when I can't smell overly smelly

    Perversion

um... this scent makes me want to be naked... and preferably not alone... this is divine!!!! sexy, spicy, buttery, ... this is the smell of the New Orleans Hotel Room when Elliot and Lisa get kinky with the croisants in Exit to Eden... I tried this this weekend (got in a swap....) and I could not stop sniffing me... I actually (after a few or 12 glasses of wine) found myself licking my wrists... I turned the imp into a spray with my perfumers alcohol so that I can refresh more frequetly to savor the wonderfulness all over again... This is my new favorite perfume!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

I had my first reaction yesterday... Dragon's Tears caused major rashies on my arms... so bad that I had to make the husband pull over at a gas station so that I could go scrub it off... I know for a fact that I don't have sensitive skin... I wear cinnamon blends all the time... and have worn several other things with dragon's blood so I know its not that... I can only assume its the "aquatic notes" (which if anyone knows what those are please PM me so that I might avoid in the future...) On a totally unrealted note... I use Lubriderm to mix my oils into when I want lotion... I've only done 1 or 2 but so far I like... ~robyn

    Dragon's Tears

This scent did not work on me... I'm not sure what it was but it was the first non-patchouli thing that made the husband demand that I "never wear that again"... which is fine because there is something in it to which I'm allergic as after about 15 minutes my arms broke out in crazy little red bumps... I gues that must be the "aquatic" as several others of my favorites contain dragons blood with no such reaction... On me... the dragons blood is overshadowed by a sour bitter smell... like baby spit up... but in an incredibly strong heady resiny perfumey way... After about 3 hours (and some washing of the wrists to remove the casue of the itchy red bumps) ... this died down and it smelled quite nice... but I don't think I had much left but the dragons blood... So... for obvious reasons, this one goes to the swap pile... but I am glad I tried it... just wish I could definatively know what the yucky-on-me note is so that I can avoid in the future... will all aquatics do that or is it something specific??? guess I'll have to test and see!!!

    Dia de los Muertos

I recieved this in a swap/sale from another forumite and i love it If anyone wants to get rid of theirs PLEASE PM me!!!! On me the incense comes out very strong... its very much the copal smoke of the ofrendas... in the background there is a field of the cempasucxhil (flowers of the gods) calling the spirits home... when its wet, I get a hint of the traditional mole placed on the alter... spicey chile chocolate sauce still warm from the stove... but that goes away as it dries this captures the day really well... as I said... I definately want more of this!!!!!

    Wildfire

I got a decant of this from my loverly Austin folks when we met for coffee and OMG I love it!!!! I WISH that Beth would bring this back so that I could buy some!!!! I'm learning more about scents and I KNOW that I LOVE Dragon's Blood... on me... wet... this smells like a sweeter version of Chimera... spicy and sharp... but sexy and fresh... when it dries the spices settle a bit and its sweetness really comes out (rose I'm assuming)... 6 hours after putting this on its very subtle but quite nice... like cinnamon sticks that were soaked in amber... I will only wear this for special occasions since I have so little of it... but WOW!!! this one MUST come back!!!!!

    Siren

I got this as part of a WONDERFUL swap faerie gift... and it is full of notes I LOVE!!! vanilla... ginger... mmmmm... unfortunately... those are apparently blended with notes that smell like incense leftovers on me... I so wanted to love this... but after 10 minutes... powder... smokey powder... but powder... But... cest la vie

    Tzadikim Nistarim

I chose this one today without really knowing what was in it or the story behind the inspiration for it... I really love this scent... on me... wet, its intensely orange/pineapple with smokey undertones... but when it dries its a soft velvet-y vanilla-spice scent (even though it doesn't have any vanilla in it!) its very light and feminine exactly what I WANT Snake oil to be but is not... I may have to order a large bottle of this... especially since it doesn't seem to have much staying power... ADDED Dec. 1: I love the way this smells when I first put it on... its the juice from a fruit salad running down your mouth... As it dries, the frankense comes out more and it gets very incence-y... not in a bad way... just a dry and smoky version of that fruity smell from before... Overtime... the smoke over takes the fruit and it wafts away to where ever scents go when they leave us... The transformation doesn't take long... I love wearing this perfume but I always forget that by the time I'm into my first class at work (about 8:30... I'm up and dressed by 5:30) its already faded so much I can barely detect it...

    Embalming Fluid

got this free in my first order... first impression: Pledge On me: Pledge Later: Still Pledge... which sucks becuase I so love the name... but... I swapped it for something nice... and someone suggested that this would make a great room scent (as rooms can smell like pledge without getting funny looks) so now I'm putting it BACK on the wishlist so that I can try it... it IS terribly bright and sunshiny... and that's just lovely for the casa... just not for the cuerpo(body) ~robyn

    Sudha Segara

I love ginger and vanilla and so I thought this would be the perfect scent for me... and I DO love it... but on me the ginger is non-existant... this is milk and honey all the way (not that thats a bad thing ) Its creamy, dreamy, warm, comforting... mmmmmmm when I wear this I want to eat my arm... I want to smell myself constantly... (note to self: not a good one for a job interview ) but... mmmmmmmm!!! Easily my favorite so far... have asked friend for a 10mL for Yule... my only problem with it is it doesn't last as long as I'd like... oh well.. cest la vie!

    La Petite Mort

Me likey... its sexy and soft... like afterglow... it doesn't have the brazen sexuality of O ans Snake Oil... its very sweet, feminine... I get the honey/vanilla thing... but not in a foody way... I could wear this everyday... and may have to get a big bottle to do just that... I think this on the short list of favorites!! In fact... I like it BETTER than Snake Oil...

    Desire

So... I didn't initially buy this becuase of the patchouli (I love it and want to bathe in it... husband hates the smell and can pick it out of ANYTHING) But... I met some gals for Sniffin' and smelled this one and loved it... I had no recollections of the site description at the time so since I couldn't smell my beloved patchouli in the bottle, I didn't guess it was there... When I got home with this I tried it on... and at first it was very strong and very heady... like too much perfume, smogged up the house with incense heady... almost to the point of being stinky... but not... just REALLY strong (and I didn't put more than a dab on my neck...) After about 30 minutes it settled down nicely... I couldn't pick out any specific notes... its sweet... so that's gotta be the vanilla... theres a spice (beloved patchouli and musk??) but not the biting cinnamon smell of chimera and snake oil more mellow... sexy with out being overly sexual... four hours or so later... I think its gone... but the husband tells me I smell good... mental note Last night... I'm picking out something to go with my outfit for Willie Nelson's show at the Music Hall (I LOVE Willie Nelson!!!!!) and I decide on Desire... just seemed fitting but not sure why... just wanted something special since for the first (and probably only) time I got to say "I'm on Willie's guest list"... but all I can say is GREAT CHOICE!!!! Husband could not keep his hands off me!!!! Thought we were going to be asked to leave!!! He was constantly nibbling my neck telling me how wonderful I smelled... This is my new "date night" perfume!!! This is the scent of marital consumation!!!!! WOW!!! all from my beloved patchouli!!! but what I don't smell is the lemon or the apple... oh well... when it gets this reaction... WHO CARES!!!

    Nine Mysteries

so... I got a hint of the mint in this, but not the overpowering mint so many have described... the citrus and floral come out much more but the mint hangs on enough to keep this from being the typically feminine blends that I try to avoid... I LOVE this scent and can't wait until its available so I can BATHE in it... those of you who don't like it can send me your imps... I will happily trade or buy them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Samhain

Truly the scent of autumn itself -- damp woods, fir needle, and black patchouli with the gentlest touches of warm pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, allspice, sweet red apple and mullein. So... I must be a suck reviewer but I'm going to give it my shot anyway... I got my Samhain (2004) in the mail yesterday and I really LOVE this scent... on me, its warm spiced apple cider... and the smell of the plate you just ate pumpkin pie off of... mostly spicy apple... just a hint of the other things in the description... but soooooo yummy and comforting... definatley a good one for fall... I was disappointed to not get this in time for Samhain but once I smelled it it didn't really matter b/c this was NOTHING like a Samhain smell for me... this is the fall carnival... homecoming... or someother occassion to hang out in the changing leaves in a favorite scarf and sweater (which I can only imagine doing as its still in the 70-80 range during the day here...) I really like this one!!! And the hubby does too...

    Undertow

I got this as a freebie with the Halloween LE's (thanks LabGang!!!) I liked this scent but am not as in love with it as I want to be... in the bottle it smells very delicate and feminie... like Sudha Segara's distant spicy cousin... But on me... the juniper comes out strong and it has that gin smell for a long time... As it fades its nicer... spicy but soft and feminine... but then its gone... I don't think I could wear this one much becuase the gin smell is frowned upon at my work (I'm a teacher!!) Nice blend though... maybe for the casa rather than the body
  16. I got a nice reaction from the hubby with Sudha Segara... and will probably be needing a big bottle of it in the next order... so far he hasn't liked anything else... Sin and Vixen are "too patchouli" and apparently I smell like everyones grandmother weating Vixen... which is decidedly NOT the reaction I was hoping for... I think i must have weird chemistry or something... going to try scherazade though... thanks for the story Beth!
  17. goddessrobyn

    Vixen

my first review: My vixen is not like your vixen... to my nose... there's no ginger here... and I definately don't smell the orange... When I sniffed the bottle... and while it was wet on my skin... I HATED it... very sharp, pungent... not at all sexy... My husband smelled the patchouli... and that's ALL he smells... Later... it softens...very warm, vanilla... lots of vanilla... sexy and comforting... I love it and could wear it all the time... unfortunately... everyone ELSE seems to hate it... I've been told that it smells "like patchouli" (the hubby who hates patchouli); "like an old lady's perfume" and "like perfume that you get at a garage sale that's past its prime"... (don't worry Beth... I didn't tell them what it was!!!) I can only guess that its doing something with my chemistry that my nose doesn't smell... Oh well... guess I'll have to keep looking... damn,,, gotta buy more!!!!!!

    Decanted...tarted up...

So... being new to this... I don't understand these two terms that you non-newbies (could never call anyone an old-timer!!) toss around with abandon... so... what is decanting? what does it mean when something is "tarted"??

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

The accent should be on the second to last syllable: Mah-sah-BAH-kehs Multisyllabic Spanish words are always accented on the second-to-last syllable, unless an accented vowel (é, í, etc.) appears elsewhere in the word. actually... that's only true if the word ends in a vowel, an "n" or an "s" (which covers 99% of the language... Sorry... Spanish teacher... can't help myself
