I'm a massage therapist living just outside of Washington, D.C. with my wonderful hubby and cat, who is nice enough to let us share her condo. I've always been intrigued by aromatherapy and the psychology of scent and BPAL totally lets me overindulge in that fascination.

My favorite authors are Poppy Z. Brite, Caitlin R. Kiernan and Neil Gaiman and I'll read (and collect!) anything related to Alice in Wonderland. My favorite music comes from Concrete Blonde, My Chemical Romance, The Cure, Dar Williams and Anders Osborne. I've recently discovered a love for Brit rock in general.

I love bats and exploring cemeteries, all things urban decay, Victorian culture, and New Orleans. I've studied bellydancing and can knit more than just a scarf, know slightly more than the average bear about astrology, herbalism and tarot, and have a total weakness for coffee, wine, and groovy socks.

    Question List of Doom

What one (or two, if you really must) BPAL bottles are you most longing for? Pickled imp. I wonder if my witchee would like a blanket type thing. Would you? No, thank you. I love cozy things, but have plenty of blankies. Very important question: Are you planning on buying anything off your BPAL and/or other wishlists during the round? I might, but I wouldn't buy anything that I would mind duplicates of. Do you wear a watch? If so, what kind/style? I don't wear one. What is your favorite art movement and/or style? ie impressionist, surrealist, art nouveau, etc. Post-impressionism and pre-Raphaelite. I also like fine art photography. I don't care for modern art or Monet. For tea drinkers, do you bag it or prefer loose. I don't drink tea, but I like my coffee whole bean and unflavored. Does the weather change where you are, as in, does it get cold in the winter? Anyone need homegrown scarves, hats, mittens, etc? Yes! I am cold all winter long, and love having warm things to wear. I don't really wear mittens, though. Gloves, hats and scarves get lots of love. What manner of affordable Witchery might you covet? Burned music or online playlists or lists of recommended music. Baked goods. Whatever your craft may be. A Flickr set of pictures taken of great buildings or places around your town. Does your cell phone have a place to attach charms? No. How do people feel about receiving baked goods/kits to make said goods? Or other cooking items? Would you enjoy oil or vinegar flavored with herbs grown at home? Strange and exotic spices with recipes to try? Cookies made with carnation petals? Yes, yes and yes. Except if the spices are weird, please let me know what to do with them! Who here is a complete, over the top, Alice In Wonderland fanatic? Not over the top, but I do collect Alice stuff. Are you a Trekkie? If so, which series do you prefer? Do you have a favorite character? I don't like sci fi in general. Exceptions are the new Dr. Who and Torchwood and Farscape. Do you have phobias? Falling. Heights (see: falling). Vomit. How do you like your mix CDs? Random? Stuff you know you'll like? I want what you think I'd like, or what you think I should be exposed to. Would you rather get food or jewellery? Jewelry. Do you like children's toys, such as jacks, those little things you tilt around to get the ball in the right hold (wtf are those called?), the aforementioned caplet dinosaurs, cap guns, etc?: I like them, but I don't necessarily want them. English candy/tea/marmite or other stuff that you love and can't easily get outside of England? I've always wanted to try musk flavored candy, even though it scares me a little. Fanfic as a gift* - yay or nay? Your fandom? Slash preferences?*well, a virtual gift obviously. You know what I mean. No, thank you. Band-aids: do you like the fun and funky ones? I like the fun ones, except for the kind that look like bacon. Those freak me out. play video games? Platform? Do you like used games? We have a Wii and PS2, but I only ever play Guitar Hero. What kinds of eye shadows do we all like? Neutral shades that can last the workday. I've never tried MAC, but want to. Do you like lip balm? If so, do you like tinted, glossy, sparkly, pearly or just plain lip balm? I love it, but I usually go for gloss or sparkle without color. Are you active on any other boards/forums? If so please specify where and your username there. Only on Ravelry. I'm autumnbriars there, too, but you have to be a member to access the site. Where are a few of your favorite places? Anyplace with an ocean, or a historical urban area. Assateague Island. New Orleans. Are you a soap addict? Anything you like to avoid in soaps (goat's milk, lye, dyes, etc...) or any particular scents you like or brands you want to try? Yes! I've been wanting to try soap from Gothic Rosary, and Vampire's Garden from Nocturne Alchemy. What size socks do you wear? How about hat size? Hats usually run towards smaller sizes, and socks should fit a woman's 6.5-7 foot. Do you read comics? Which ones do you love and which can't you stand? I don't like most, but I've enjoyed Fell and Buffy. Symbols that are meaningful to me? Hands. Spirals. Willow trees. What's your favorite type of music to hear live, rather than recorded? What is your favorite pumpkin goodness? I love pumpkin everything!

    Lune Noire

This is just lovely! In the imp, it smelled fruity and floral, which are not a few of my favorite things, but it was delicate enough that I tried it anyway. It stays that way for a bit, but and then takes on a dry smell that reminds me a lot of Hamadryad. I have a hard time pucking out specific notes, but I have to imagine its the champaca, clove, tonka and moss that come out to play. Whatever it is, I absolutely love it, and am kicking myself for not buying a bottle.

    Singing Moon

I LOVE this scent. It smells the same on me as it does in the bottle, and isn't much of a morpher. Its definitely herbal, but underneath it all, I get moss and damp dirt and grass and flowers, and salty air. It manages to, at the same time, make me think of being by the ocean at night and in the woods early in the morning. It makes me feel peaceful. More, please.

    Hexennacht (2008)

In the bottle, I get wet pine and woodsmoke, and underneath that, a sweet floral. On my skin, its got a fairly strong throw, and at first, its all pine, all the time. That fades over the first hour or so and it mellows into a sweet, heavy musk cut with herby flowers. It lasts all day (8+ hours), but by the end, its almost all musk. I'm still not sure how I feel about this. I want to love it, and when its in the bottle, I do. On my skin, though, its a little too sweet and musky for my tastes.

    Thirteen (13): July 2007

I had a similar experience to this as Ahania. My initial sniff made me dubious, and wearing it for awhile didn't make me feel any better. In the bottle, I can find the strong chocolate that Beth was talking about, but the fruit cuts through it pretty sharply and feels tropical. Something smalls like sour milk. Maybe its the honey, because its the same thing that put me off of this year's Milk Moon. Beyond that, its very complex and my nose isn't nearly refined enough to pick out most of the notes. After an hour or so on my skin, the sour milk goes away but something still smells acrid. The chocolate picks back up, but its much softer than in the bottle. Hubby says he smells ginger along with it, but I don't get that at all. After about three hours, the scent has faded almost completely, but by the time it got to its last legs, it was the soft, fruity-sweet chocolate that I had hoped for.

    Hamadryad

This is one of those scents where I sniff the oil and I read the reviews and I wear the oil and I read the reviews, and I almost convince myself that I must have something totally different than what everyone else has. I don't get mint. I don't get cinnamon. I don't get any of the other ick smells that people have mentioned. Hamadryad is a scent that reminds me that my nose isn't nearly as refined as I'd like it to be, since I have a very hard time picking out specific notes. Its a warm scent, to me, and earthy, but with a soft floral undertone. Not heady florals, like roses, but more like the scent you get when you walk past a flower shop in the summer...sort of the idea of flowers, rather than ZOMG FLOWERS! Somewhere under the flowers is the scent of wood and moss, and the whole thing reminds me of a forest glen. It smells the same in the bottle as it does on my skin, its not a morpher, and at the end of the day, I can still catch traces of it if I try. Definately one of my favorites!

    Shanghai

In the bottle, this smelled just like green tea with a little lemon--not enough to make it seem sharp, but just enough to add a little zing. It seemed soft and light and wonderful for a warm day. On me, the lemon instantly overpowered the green tea, and now, a few hours later, the whole thing has morphed into something that smells exactly like Ivory soap. Sadness.
