    Gáttaþefur

This is my favourite scent of the entire Yule 2015 update, and I'll definitely be getting a bottle. It has a delicious apricotty, almost marmaladey vibe, and is one of the most wonderfully *comforting* gourmand scents I've ever had the pleasure to sniff. It has a very respectable throw, too, and lasted all day on my skin. I just adore it.

    Feeding The Dead

A heartbreaker. One of my favourite scents of all the Bpals I've ever had the pleasure to sniff, but as soon as it touches my skin it just evaporates. No throw, no staying power. I'm desperate for it to work on me, so I'm going to give it a lot of extra chances. Perhaps some sort of scent locket might help.

    Sonnet D'Automne

2015 edition. I didn't expect to love this as much as I do. In the bottle I got such a fresh mint note that I thought I'd misread the notes. On my skin, it burst instantly into that shimmering, shivering, soapy white musk. I do love a bit of white musk, but for a while that was all I could smell - with a hint of vanilla if I concentrated - and thought, well, it's nice but I can get this sort of smell anywhere (eg. from the bar of the Body Shop's 'White Musk' I have in my shower). BUT THEN, I start to notice a lot more going on - there's a sepulchral magic happening. Dead leaves and vanilla are conjuring a Baudelairean ghost on my wrist. AND THEN, suddenly, the white cocoa comes to play, and everything becomes radiant, and I'm in love. I sense that this won't last long, it's so delicate and ghostly. But I really love it. And may have to get a bottle.

    Sweet William's Ghost

I agree with the above about the baby bathroom soaps as a first impression, in the bottle and for the first minute or two on my skin. It's pleasant, but unexpected given some of the notes. A few minutes in, the boozy note comes along, in tandem with a nice earthiness that is coming particularly from the carrot and patchouli. It's a bit like being slightly drunk at the interment part of a funeral: you're aware of the huge pile of lilies on the coffin, the slightly wet earth and grass underneath, the shower you took that morning, and the sneaky nip of brandy half the congregation seems to have had. All of which brought back some interesting memories for me. The very sad thing about this scent though, is that it's really quite linear and doesn't last long at all. Within two hours, all I could detect while huffing my wrist up close was a faint musty-dusty note, like when you open a box of your grandmother's financial receipts from the 1940s. Half an hour later, nothing at all. I would definitely have considered a bottle if it stuck around a bit longer.

    Hemlock

I just had to come in here to check if Hemlock turned to Vicks vapour rub on anyone else or if it was just me. Turns out it wasn't just me. I really, really wanted to love this because I'm a Keats fan and hemlock is everywhere in Keats. But agh, my chemistry and it just don't mix at all. In the imp: medicinal, herbal, clean smell; nothing in particular stands out for me. Wet: Instantly, Vicks vapour rub, with a suppressed note of sherbert. Weird. Dry down: Peppermint and lemon start to come through, and pine, and the Vicks smell flattens into a general menthal. Then, about half and hour later, a very sharp white spirit smell happened. Luckily I was about to fall asleep anyway (I tested this just before bed), so I didn't have to reach for the wet wipes. But it was not good. Ah well. I hope I have better luck with others in this line. I envy those who can wear hemlock, I really do!
