    Butter Rum Cookie

Mod Note: This is the review topic for the 2014 version of this scent, which differs slightly from releases in 2008 and 2013 (which have their own topic). Rum-soaked brown butter cookies, crusted with sugar, soaked in almond and garnished with orange rind and pummeled pecans. In the bottle: All kinds of cookie goodness. This is definitely a sweet gourmand scent, it doesn't smell too boozy but I can tell it's there lingering in the background. It almost reminds me of Starbucks Eggnog and Gingerbread lattes, which is totally a good thing. Wet: At this stage it smells like heavily boozy cookies, with a slight hint of orange rind and cinnamon. I'm not detecting pecans for some reason unless pecan and cinnamon smell similar? It doesn't burn the skin however which is great. Dry: Oooooh, it's completely turned into a butterscotch scent, I quite like this as it's similar to a dessert we have over here in the UK called Angel Delight which smells almost identical, I love it! Overall: This is a lovely Christmas perfume, I feel it associates with this time of year very well! The only downfall if there is one is that I'm not sure if I can handle smelling like a butterscotch cookie everyday...it is beautiful nonetheless.

    Gingerbread Goblin

Gingerbread with black coconut, patchouli, and sweet benzoin. In the bottle: The gingerbread is definitely the most noticable note but there's a darker aspect to it, this isn't your average straight up sweet and foody scent, it may even appear a little bit masculine. I haven't tried Goblin on it's own so I can't compare but this is beautiful and an instant winner for me. Wet: Oh yeah, there's the gingerbread note bursting to the forefront, it's quite prominent but it fades quickly and merges into this smooth and sensual dark scent. I'm sure it's mostly the black coconut and patchouli that I'm smelling at this point. Dry: This stays pretty much the same as when wet however it does smells even more gorgeous on drydown, the coconut and patchouli are taking over but the gingerbread is still lurking in the background providing warmth. I think this does have a slight masculine smell about it but it's definitely still wearable for women in my opinion! Overall: Well if I had money to buy backups of Gingerbread Goblin I would throw all of my cash at bpal right now, but alas I don't so I will savour every last drop of my precious bottle!

    Poisoned Apple

In the imp: Sweet red apple with a slight sour edge, I'm not a huge fan of apple scents so I don't know if I'll really like this one. Wet: Ok, the red apple takes over big time and it's pretty much all I'm able to smell for the first few minutes however as the scent begins to dry I can notice a musky base coming through, possibly the opium? Dry: The poisons are finally starting to show, and it's a pleasure to the nose on comparison to the apple note, and it does make this scent somewhat wearable and relatively nice. Overall: Poisoned Apple is a nice enough scent but I'm fairly sure it's not for me and it won't require a bottle.

    Glasgow

In the imp: A distinctive sweet rosy floral scent, not off-putting but not really something I think I would wear sadly. Wet: Overly rosy and heavy on the sweet floral notes, I'm pretty sure it's mostly the heather I'm smelling with slight berry undertones. Dry: Much calmer and not so full on, however it's definitely just like 'delicious4' stated above a rather powdery rosy scent. Overall: Glasgow is a lovely scent and something I will probably use now and again but I don't feel the need to buy a full bottle which is incredibly unfortunate considering that I'm from Scotland, I was really hoping that I would like this perfume.

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

Welcome to bpal and the forum Here are some of my suggestions Anne Bonny- Named in honor of the most notorious female pirate to ever set sail. Wicked, cruel, beautiful, intelligent, resourceful and dangerous: a true role model. A blend of Indonesian red patchouli, red sandalwood, and frankincense. Leanan Sidhe- The name translates to “fairy, love of my soul”. A vampiric spirit and a dark muse, the love of the Leanan Sidhe is both a gift and a curse. These eerily beautiful Irish spirits drain the sanity and lifeforce of the men they inspire to artistic greatness. Her kiss infuses a man with depth of vision and feeling, otherworldly passion, and a sudden and ineffable understanding of the unending sadness that plagues mankind. Her perfume is a crush of Irish herbs and flowers, Gaelic mists, and nighttime dew. Bewitched- Deep, luscious green and berry scents that evoke images of woodland witchcraft and the raw power of nature: blackberry, sage, green tea, wild berries and dark musk. Bilquis- Honey, myrrh, lily of the valley, rose otto, fig leaf, almond, ambrette, red apple, and warm musk. The Witch Queen- Wild plum, red musk, tuberose, calla lily, heliotrope, pimento, ylang ylang and beeswax beneath a dark haze of sinister purple-hued incense smoke. Bordello- A decadent, deep perfume, lusty and luxuriant. The scent evokes images of velvet-lined Old West cathouses, tightly laced corsets, rustling petticoats and coquettish snarls of pleasure. Bawdy plum with amaretto, burgundy wine and black currant. Lamia- Deadly elegance: pale orchid, vanilla amber, black currant, white peach, champaca, coconut, Arabian myrrh, Burmese vetiver, and oude. Thanks for the scent recs Haltija! I loved looking through all of them, there's a few that I'm intrigued by and I will definitely be including them in my next order of imps, I like the sound of Anne Bonny in particular! Thanks again!

    Mouse Circus

In the bottle: Toffee nut popcorn, does that exist? It does now anyway...this is definitely a major foody/sweet scent that I wouldn't normally go for but surprisingly I'm loving it! Wet: It's predominantly a strong toffee nut popcorn scent at this stage and it if happens to stay like this all the way through it could possibly make me feel a litle bit sick Dry: Ahhh, thank goodness the popcorn has decided to calm down...it's not completely disappeared but it's there at an appropriate level, and oh my for the really good part...a sweet musk starts to take to the forefront of this scent and I love it! Overall: Once you get through the popcorn blast at the start of Mouse Circus, it develops into a nice grown up sweet scent and I can see myself wearing this a lot, the one downfall with this perfume is the fact that I have to reapply a few times during the day as it didn't stick around for long, other than that it is beautiful.

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

I just recently received my first order which contained Mouse Circus, Samhain and an imp of Glasgow, and I'd love some scent recommendations! I'm incredibly bad at describing myself so I don't think I'll be able to write as much as everyone else but here goes...I'm 22 years old going on 23 in December, Sagittarius, and I'm currently a Music Photographer working for an online magazine but I'm looking to change my career direction around and eventually work in the makeup industry (although I could never fully forget about my photography). I live in Scotland (so that's why I ordered an imp of Glasgow) I'm quite Scottish at heart and I do love where I live. I'm a really creative person, I love being able to get my creative side across in any way possible whether it's through photography or art etc, it's always been my field of speciality. I'm generally an easy going, happy person, with a shy personality but I'm slowly building my confidence over time. My favourite music genre is rock and alternative, I'm in my best enviroment when I'm at a gig listening to live music as I love the energy and atmosphere, I find it to be quite captivating. I have too many favourite artists to mention but some of my most listened to bands are, AFI, Billy Talent, Within Temptation, Molotov Jukebox and HIM. My other interests include anything particularly witchy, I like collecting crystals, my preferred choices being spirit quartz and labradorite. I also have a particular fondness for the 90's (possibly because I grew up in those times) but I love the clothing, movies, artists etc. For notes that I previously have enjoyed before discovering BPAL, I am in love with Tom Ford's Black Orchid, it's one of my favourite perfumes so if anything rings a bell that is similar as such then that would be great. I tend to like spicy, but sweet scents and as far as the BPAL perfumes that I've already bought that I mentioned earlier, I'm currently enjoying Samhain and Mouse Circus, not so much Glasgow. I hope that helps, any recommendations are more than helpful so that I can plan around my next order! Thanks.

    Samhain

Truly the scent of autumn itself -- damp woods, fir needle, and black patchouli with the gentlest touches of warm pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, allspice, sweet red apple and mullein. Samhain 2014, fresh from the lab. This is my first review and consequently one of my first purchases from BPAL, and oh my it is gorgeous indeed and very unique. In the bottle: Apple is very dominant producing a crisp and sharp scent, however there is a sweetness lingering in the background and it's beautiful. Wet: I smell strong apple cider with spices, tangy and crisp once again. Dry: Absolutely amazing, the apple cider scent stays throughout but a slight bonfire note comes out to play and adds a really Autumnal vibe to Samhain that I wasn't envisioning previously. Overall: I can definitely see myself wearing Samhain regularly through the Autumn season, although it's not a complete favourite it does have it's own unique scent that will keep me coming back for more.
