    Elegba

Strong coconut in the imp, not much else. Wet, it is coconut with something else- a sharp smell. It's maddeningly evocative of something, something... it makes the whole effect something like pina colada, almost a pineapple scent. Could it be the tobacco, or the burnt sugar that other people were noticing? Eventually, it becomes mostly the sweet rum- a really rich and not at all cloying sweetness, with still that hint of coconut. Aye Legba! Ayibobo!

    Casanova

Faintly sharp in the imp- the bergamot and lemon peel, I think The bergamot in particular comes out on application. Later on, it's mostly lavender and patchouli with maybe some of the amber. It's pleasant on me but fades quickly. Pity- I expected better of it.

    Magus

Very... arcane smelling in the imp. A certain sharpness wet... definitely the cedar, possibly the galangal, too (although I'm not really familiar with that outside of Thai food ) Settles down nicely to frankincense and sandalwood, with something sweet underneath? Maybe the High John? It has a very good sustain on me, and makes me feel all Golden-Dawn-y.

    Jolly Roger

In the imp, this was thin and sharp, without a lot of other elements... maybe a hint of leather? It took a while to develop on me, but is in general a nice, sweetish bay rum, with the other notes mainly tickling the back of my nose but not otherwise very prominent. Good, but not great.

    Tezcatlipoca

Serious cocoa note in the imp. Wet, the cocoa is very strong, with something to sweeten it and a note of leather. As it dries, the cocoa fades when I'm sniffing it on my skin but remains in the throw for a while. There's a detectable leather note plus still the sweetness. It doesn't seem to have a lot of sustain- what's left now is mostly what must be the patchouli and "ritual incense" notes, plus possibly a bit of leather. Haven't made up my mind on this... ADDED Feb. 8: Update: I let this sit for a week or so and tried it again. Much more vivid... the cocoa remains longer, and nicely mixes with the other scents noted above. Still no flowers, though...

    Iago

This is a dark and stylishly villainous scent - what I hoped Villain would be, perhaps... makes me want to go out and do some crimes. The leather isn't really noticeable, except maybe at the very beginning. It starts out mostly vetiver, undercut with the musk, then goes vicey-versy on me by the end. This has a strong throw on me, and lasts a good long time.

    Villain

This has been a bit of a disappointment for me- it's really delectable and sexy on one of my female friends, and I was looking forward to trying it. On me, it's pleasant enough- a really good blend of the lavender, musk and citrus notes- but it fades very quickly and has next to no throw. Not a swapper, but I'll use up the imp on work days and I doubt I'll get another...

Wearing this right now... I find it very pleasant... the creamy vanilla tea scent is strong without being overpowering. I think the musks really get buried by the vanilla, though. To me, it's a very comforting scent. It makes Monster Alice want to tear my clothes off, which is an added benefit. Nice, but not one that I'll likely get in a 5ml...

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

Console yourself with this: in New Orleans, they have streets named after the muses. They pronounce "Terpsicore" TERP-see-core... "Calliope" CAL-ee-ope, etc. If you pronounce them classically, they look at you as if you'd grown an extra head. So if you ever go to NOLA, you can always set him up and get your revenge... ;-) I'm a longtime Lovecraft reader, and that's pretty close to the way I pronounce it- yih-HA-nith-LAY. I agree with an earlier poster that Lovecraftian coinages were meant to be weird and hard to pronounce, so there's not necessarily a proper pronounciation for them... I pronounce "R'leyh" either "ril-YEH" or "rilly-EH"...
