BPAL

  • Favorite Scents
I am collecting for both myself and Russell, my husband. Creamy and warm comforting scents are my favorites, though I like unique cool/crisp scents for the warm months too. (Like 51, Absinthe and Shoggoth) I also love spicy, green and foody scents. Favorite notes are ginger, honey, tea, chocolate and vanilla... Right now, my 5 favorite scents are: Bliss, Gingerbread Poppet, Shub, Snow White and Velvet. (Always changing!) Russell prefers dark, incensey and smokey or crisp masculine blends. Especially into scents with goth or steampunk themes. (Such as the Lovecraft, Funeral blends and the Steampunk line) His favorite notes are leather, clove, tobacco, smokiness, dark musks, sage, metal notes, tonka and citrus... His current 5 favorites are: Death of Autumn, Hellfire, Iago, Phoenix Steamworks and Smiling Spider. I don't like red musk, dragon's blood and heavy florals. (Rose, especially, is bad on me.) Berries don't seem to do that well for me either, especially blackberry. Fruity blends can be ok, but aren't generally my thing.

    Chaos Theory V: Recursive Self-Similarity v2

O CT CCXLII: This first one smells very flowery and that breaks my heart a little. (I'm not a floral fan.) I don't wear florals and can only identify a few floral notes easily and this isn't any of those. Probably a complex blend of notes I'm not familiar with. Possibly some jasmine in there, but I'm not certain. I can only barely pick out the O in the background. I don't think I can keep this one, which makes me sad. It's not my style at all. O CT CCXIX: in bottle: Smells like something fresh and clean in the bottle. A little sharp, Green and pleasant. Maybe aloe or something sort of like a nice cucumber/melon shampoo. Reminds me of something like Green Phoenix, but I like this better. on skin: The scent softens a good deal on the skin, but my impression remains about the same. I don't smell O at all in this. I'm hoping that aspect strengthens a bit over time. This one's a keeper. Will be lovely summer scent...in the same general category as scents like 51, Green Phoenix and That!. Surprised that I don't smell the base scent in these as much as I was expecting. Interesting.

    Chaos Theory V: Recursive Self-Similarity v1

Dorian CT CCLXXXIII: (i think?) in bottle: Smells like Mad Hatter! Interesting! Must be pennyroyal or peppermint or something? I think I can also detect some lavender. Don't smell any Dorian in the bottle, but this one makes me happy. on skin: still smells like Mad Hatter, which is nice because I've been wanting a bottle of that anyway. A warm pepperminty scent. After it's dried down a little bit, the lemony tea scent starts peeking out from behind the Hatter. Not strong, but it's there. Nice. Of the 3 CT bottles I ordered, this one is probably the one that suits me best.

What do bottles and labels look like?

A closer look at the DD Pulp Horror artwork that I did now available at my LJ: http://jenniferrodgers.livejournal.com/46503.html

    Bliss

There's just not much to say about this one other than omg chocolate. It's pure chocolate heaven. It's like baking brownies or chocolate cakes. It's exactly like that smell in Hershey's Chocolate World. (If you've been there!) Chocolate love. I have a bottle of this. Don't wear it very often, but I consider it a favorite and I'll always need to have a bottle on hand. Yum yum yum.

    Chimera

Huh! I could have sworn that I received an imp of this at some point, rejected it and got rid of it. That I didn't like it. But I received two free imps of this scent in the past week or so and decided that I was supposed to give it another chance. I don't remember it being this nice! I have a bottle of Bengal and a couple bottles of O. I kind of see this scent, Chimera, as a mid-point between those two. Very cinnamon, but with a hint of powdery sweetness. I guess there's no amber in the blend, but that's how it smells to me. O with cinnamon. I don't think I'll need a bottle, but I like this quite a bit and I'll be holding onto my imps. See how they grow on me.

That! The Terror From Over There!

This is really nice. It reminds me of 51 alot, but it's not the same. I definitely agree that there's an aloe-like element to it. Beautiful and fresh and green. Fruity but green fruity. And not soapy on my skin the way that Green Phoenix was. I love it. It's getting to be winter now, so I'll probably put this in my box and ignore it for a while. But I expect I might wear it every single day once summer comes.

I Fell in Love with a Floating Brain

I haven't tried any vintage of Beaver Moon yet, but oh wow. This scent makes me so happy. (And not just because I got to draw a robot brain. Though it might be a factor.) Smells like strawberry cupcakes! Or strawberry shortcake. Something warm and delicious and cakey and covered with strawberry! This is already a pretty serious favorite of mine and it just arrived today. I want to have a bath in it. I'm in love.

    Scent for Halloween?

I went with 13 this morning when I voted for luck. After my shower, I went with One to Tie Two to Win. Seems very appropriate!

What do bottles and labels look like?

This thread makes me happy. I keep checking back, excited, now that I know people are starting to get their Halloween bottles.

    Smokestack

On my skin: After drying down, I felt it was very much like other "burnt" scents like Brimstone and Djinn. But softer and more complex. On my husband's skin: It smells ALOT like Iago on him! With a touch of the charred note in Death of Autumn. I definitely agree that I smell vetiver. I'll update if my impression changes significantly. It's very nice. It's one that I'd prefer to smell on a man than to wear myself, but I like it.

    Aelopile

On my skin and to my nose, I get the warm citrus from Carnal. But instead of that fig and tea feel that I get from Carnal, there's a sharp bitter...almost medicinal background to it. As others say, maybe that's the wood. I prefer Carnal for this kind of scent, but this is nice.

    Nostrum Remedium

I've tested this a couple times and the results are consistent. I can't make out the notes in this. It's strange. I know it's black tea, honey and wasabi, but I can't recognize any of those elements. It starts out light and very fresh smelling and then it dries down to...something else? I'd agree that it smells somewhat green and soapy. This one's a mystery to me. I wish I could describe it better. It's nice, but not for me. I will see if the husband likes it!

    The Antikythera Mechanism

I need more wear to be sure, but I think I'm going to love this scent. It's an almost seamless blend of wood, tobacco and vanilla on my skin. Smoky, but soft and creamy at the same time. Very nice. It's not masculine or feminine really. I'd say this blend falls in between. Lovely. And it does feel very steampunk. Or at least refined Victorian gentleman.
