    Decadence

At first: almonds, orange liquor, and vanilla....this smells absolutely delicious, and not in a baking-goods type of way. Yuuum... The cinnamon then quickly jumps in and overpowers the previous three flavors. I end up smelling like a christmas spice candle....I'm hoping that the released version will be a little bit lighter on the cinnamon!

    Bewitched

I actually placed an order for an imp's ear of this a few days ago, but when I got my oldest order from the Lab today I found out they enclosed an imp of Bewitched for free! While wet, this is very wonderful - the berries and the green tea were most prominent, and I like green tea smells very much. Unfortunately, this went powdery on my skin, as clean/fresh/berry scents are wont to do.

    Imp

I didn't find this to be light or playful at all. Instead, it's quite heavy and almost cloying. Furthermore, the peach seems to be a golden peach, rather than a white peach - and I was particularly looking forward to a white peach. Nevertheless, this is an enjoyable scent, but just not for *me.*

    Burial

The Dark Side of Earth: deep, brooding forest scents, including juniper and patchouli. The scent of upturned cemetery loam mingling with floral offerings to the dead. Wow. I wasn't expecting Burial to be so....bitter, piney, or resiny. Instead of recalling rich black dirt, my mind is taken to a very old, overgrown forest right after the last rays of sun have left for the day. My nose barely picks up the florals in this perfume. I can't decide yet if I want to hold on to my imp or to swap...

    Black Lotus

I was really excited to receive this as a freebie in my order, since I had wanted to try this one for a while but never got around to ordering it. I actually liked the initial smell of this far more than the dry-down. At first this is light and sweet, in a vaguely aquatic berry-ish sort of way (I'm assuming that this is the lotus!) Unfortunately, the scent ends up turning into an aquatic-berry-plastic-barbie-doll on my skin.

    Hamadryad

This is definitely full of cinnamon, but not the cinnamon that one typically bakes with...it's what I would imagine cinnamon bark might be like. I got the faintest hint of soft grasses in the background, with a slight tinge of soapiness that while is not unpleasant, is also not quite me.

    Twilight

I have to be very careful when applying Twilight. Putting even the smidgen too much makes this perfume scarily loud on my skin, but putting a tiny touch is just right. It smells like a lovely "cool air" scent on me, but I don't think that I'll get a larger botle simply because I don't see myself wearing this all that often.

    Oberon

I like this, and I don't like this. There's something that's "raw" and unfinished about this....and while I love that quality, I also don't see myself wearing this scent for that very reason. I believe that the orchid in this also acts up a little bit on my skin, which gives it a slightly soapy quality, I think. Hmm...maybe this would be nice as a room fragrance?

    Seraphim

A perfume sacred to the highest of the angelic hosts: calla lily, wisteria, white sandalwood, Damascus rose and frankincense. This is a chilly floral scent on me, with the sandalwood keeping the whole scent from just being blown away in the wind. This is a lovely flowing and beautiful floral scent on me, but unfortunately, not my style.

    Glasgow

The heather in this smells vaguely rosey, which makes for a wonderful blend of roses and blackberries -- at first. But then, as berries are wont to do on my skin, they become powdery and cloying. Oh, my precious berries....why do you always do this to me?!!!

    #20 Love Oil

This smells like almost pure rose one me, before quickly fading away in about 30 minutes. I'm not really a soliflore kinda gal, so I've swapped this one. *I'm so surprised to find, reading through the reviews, that people gets notes of almond and cinnamon!!

    O

I think I'm among the few whom O did not work for. I was so excited about trying this, and couldn't wait to sniff the combination of the honey and vanilla....and I am an amber fan as well! I was pretty shocked to dislike this....it turned powdery on me. I can't think of what note it could be that I don't react well too - I like Dana O'Shee (with the vanilla), and Haunted (with the amber)...could it be the honey that my skin doesn't like?

    The Apothecary

All of the notes here sound like ones that I'd love - tea, ginger, fig, moss, herbs....and yet it quickly turns into dusty, bitter soap on me. I think that I might have to add moss to the list of scents that don't agree with me....which makes me so sad, becuase I love the smell of moss!

    New Orleans

I get incredibly dense florals with big droopy petals...mixed with spice and soap. I think that it's the spice that gives this a hint of the "decay"....and I can't decide how I feel about it. On the one hand I like it because it makes this blend unique....but on the other hand, it's a little bit off-putting to smell this note of rot. I'll have to wear it a few more times to make up my mind.

    Rosalind

I wanted to love this so badly!!! Unfortunately, berries are very temperamental on my skin, and Rosalind was no exception. It started out very green and pretty....something very young and innocent and pastoral. However, the berries soon turn powdery and artificial, and the scent was ruined for me.

    Psyche

I'm starting to think that maybe orchid doesn't get along wtih me....because Oberon wasn't too successful on my skin, either. This starts of heavy and sharp rose/lavender, before the frankincense comes into play. While I like rose and I like lavender, this particular blend seemed too "cold" to suit me. It feels very much like a wintery rose blend...very crisp and chilly.

    March Hare

I got this as a freebie in my last order, took one sniff, and placed it in my swap pile. This smelled way too much like those christmas-time "hearth" type candles.....the ones that are so strong and loaded with cinnamon and apples and dried fruits....which is just not me. :-T I think I'd probably prefer this as a room fragrance to one I'd wear on my body.
  18. dreamwalkblue

    The Caterpillar

I hate my body chemistry. I didn't get anything deep or spicy or incensy....just powdery, dusty plastic mixed with some soapy and musty jasmine. I wish I liked this one, the earthy/incensey floral description sounds right up my alley, but alas!
  19. dreamwalkblue

    Bliss

A pure Hershey's milk chocolate candy bar that turns a tad smokey/powdery on me. Although I like foody-ish scents, I prefer not to smell like chocolate (or at least, smell like a chocolate-type single note.) Into the swap pile this went...

    Bordello

Whoever said that this is just like a jolly rancher candy was right on the money!!! This is incredibly sweet on me (too sweet) and is practically a single-note....I don't smell any amaretto or alcohol at all.

    Endymion

If the pear had lasted, I would have really liked this smell. Unfortunately, the pear was gone in about 10 minutes, leaving a strangely soapy/chemical floral behind on my skin - which I assume was the lily of the valley. What a shame! I am starting to thing that my most beloved smells just don't smell right on my skin - ie, pears, blackberries, limes, mangos...

    Tamora

Tamora took a few trials for me to fall in love with. The first time I ever sampled it, I was blown away by the raw strength of it, wet on my skin. I coudln't smell any of the peach fruit or vanilla bean at all - only amber, sandalwood, and a floral (that I assume was the peach blossom). With each successive sampling however, I have liked it more and more. The opening is still a little sharp to me, with the amber/sandalwood/floral combination, but once it has dried down I can definitely smell the peach weaving in and out between the incredibly delicious vanilla bean. However, this is not a foody scent at all, and you wouldn't smell this and think, "Hey, hey...there's a peach. And there's a vanilla bean." Tamora reminds me a bit of being outdoors one a late summer's day. I especially can't wait to wear this in the wintertime. And, best of all - it passed the "girlfriend test." I will have to get a 5mL of this.

    Haunted

I feel like the description on the BPAL website doesn't do this scent justice! Out of the 10 or so samples I've tried so far, Haunted is the only one so far that has truly stood out as a must-buy-immediately scent for me. It's a rather light scent in that it will not overpower, but it definitely has a presence. It smells "clean", yet it's not a soapy smell. While wet, there is a slighty lemony smell although when it dries on my skin the hint of lemon is gone and is replaced with the smell of lovely vanilla pods. Mmmm... The *best* thing however, is that my girlfriend loves this on me - and she's the pickiest person I know when it comes to perfumes, I've been searching high and low for several months now for something that she'd like. While Haunted was drying down, she kept sniffing me and saying, "What are you wearing? I *hate* it....and yet I *love* it..." but then once it was done drying she couldn't stop sniffing me and cuddling closer. As soon as I'm done posting this review, I'm going to go an order a big bottle of this.

    Succubus

Elizabeth included this sample in my order...I thankfully did not smell any of the sweet clove on me, as I strongly dislike the scent of cloves. All I really *did* smell though, was orange blossom, sweetened slightly by the mimosa. It smelled almost exactly like a bar of orange blossom soap, still in it's paper wrapping. While I will enjoy my Imp, I don't think I'll be buying a larger bottle anytime soon.

    Van Van

I was trying to figure out *what* Van Van smelled like, and I think that Paintsnked is right - it smells like sweet grass! It smells a bit of baby powder mixed with a light, musky vanilla with grassy, herbal (but not green!) tones. It's a very nice, calmin everyday fragrance that I want to have a hand at all times. I will be getting a bottle of this once my sample is used up.
