    Lilith and the Jarocho

Oh dear... For me, I should have listened to the person who said "it's the same kind of Jasmine in Lush's Flying Fox" and stopped dead in my tracks because I HATE Flying Fox. Alas, I did not. It's, me Jarocho, not you, honest. So. Here we go... In the bottle, I smell a light, perfume-y, floral citrus, nice! I think this will go down well as a summer scent! Wet on wrist: Somewhat boozy, lime, florals And within 2 minutes (no exaggeration here) the nightmare begins. Those of you who've had scents morph with uncanny speed into stank will fully feel my dismay. Oh my living god, NO!!!!! Straight up stinky jasmine hell on my wrists. Headache inducing, turning into dirty diaper plus baby powder and diaper wipe sludge smell wafting up in waves from my wrist....oh bleurgh. On me, this smells like a diaper bag after a long day out and about. Only the diaper is for an 18 month old, eating solid foods now kid and not for a breastfed 3 month old. Yuckity yuck yuck yuck. I had to wash it off after 5 minutes or suffer the headachey/migraine like effects this would, without a doubt give me. Even after scrubbing with soap and water, I could smell baby wipes on my wrist. At least I didn't smell like used baby wipes anymore. Well. I need to keep buying stuff so I'll have a decent list of stuff for swaps/selling in future, because there is no way I'm keeping this around.

    Body, Remember

I bought a used bottle of this on ebay, and am SO glad I did! One of my favorites. In bottle: Floral, coconut, fruity Wet: Strong floral on me, but it's a smoky, sexy floral Drydown: Floral dies down a little, coconut begins to come forward a little and it goes back and forth between the two. Dry: OMG When the floral and coconut wed, I am in heaven. One of the best smells on the planet! Lasts a nice long time on me, and has good sillage, too. All I can say is this...my husband ravaged me beautifully while I was wearing this. In the middle of the day, lol! I have unfortunately found one of my favorites and will be hunting ever after for it. I do believe THIS is my Snake Oil. 5 out of 5, hunting for eternity....

    O

In the imp: cherries, an undercurrent that smells a little like sour milk? Must be the honey...yep, it's honey Wet on Skin: Milk scent is gone entirely. Still smells a bit cherry like, and spicy vanilla Dry down: cherry goes after 10 minutes or so, replaced by vanilla, rather sweet, a bit like snake oil in its spiciness. Dry: Slightly floral, slightly spicy, mostly sweet vanilla. On me, not much throw, moderate staying power. I do like how the musk, honey, and vanilla blend together, creating a warm, rich, velvety scent. Yes, this scent reminds me of red velvet. Why doesn't that read as sexy to me, though??? *is weird* I think silk is sexier than velvet, maybe that's why... I think this will also get better with age. I prefer it to Snake Oil. I don't find it particularly sexy, but it's pleasant and light (on me, anyway!) I'll let it age and see how it goes, the imp is only a couple weeks old and I can all ready smell a difference...and it's getting!

    Umbra

The deepest, darkest point in a shadow; the area contained within the shadow of an eclipse. East African black patchouli, cedarwood, vetiver and a dribble of cinnamon. This was a frimp from the lab! THANK YOU! InTheImp: Definitely lives up to its name. It's very dark, very mysterious, very comforting. I love it. Deep velvety indigo, violet, shot through with very thin streaks of living green. Wet: I LOVE this. It smells like earth in such a lovely, comforting way. I work in the city, live in the country, and sometimes driving home, I wish I could stop in one of the fields or wood near my house and just cover myself with soil and leaves and stay there. That feeling is what this smells like. It also reminds me of the traditional midwives I worked with in my 20's. It smells like the herbal tincture I took when I was in labor. Drydown: This turns smooth, woody, and slightly sweet on me. I get the patchouli for sure, no cinnamon to speak of. It's a complex patchouli, I really enjoy it. Dry: Comforting, old wood...I love it still, from top to bottom. It's soft, furry, warm. The scent envelopes me protectively. I'm pretty sure it'll have decent throw because that's just what patchouli does, ya know? Earth Goddess yay. I'll probably end up getting a bottle for when I'm feeling overwhelmed or sad, because it's just like getting a big ole hug from my sweet mother earth. Mother's Day is tomorrow, this was a great gift!!!! Thanks guys Sorry I'm not very good with the technical perfume note terminology. My descriptions run towards poetry and colors.

    Tzadikim Nistarim

There's nothing I can add as far as descriptions go, slightly fruity, sweet, deep....for me, this is the first bpal I've tried that's been absolutely perfect on me from start to finish. It's joy and suffering combined, it smells ancient and contemporary. On me, it smells extremely feminine and sexy. I'm getting a bottle. :wub2:

    Mlle. Lilith, Fortune Teller

I received this yesterday, tested last night on wrist and all day today. In bottle: sweet, fruity, bubblegum Wet: Very sweet and fruity, can detect coconut in the background, gives a nice depth. It smells almost like grape bubblegum, lol, but in a good way. Drydown: I had a problem with this stage for about 45 minutes. At this part, I can see why some people say it's a girl's scent, because it smells SORT OF like fruit candy/gum. When I wasn't thinking about it, it was a little annoying. When I would stop and inhale, it was delicious. There's a lot of depth and layers to this scent, and if you go on initial impressions with it, you'd be missing out. Dry: Waxing poetic, here: This is NOT a little girl's scent. This scent is the memory of childhood, the way memories erase sadness and tears, and what's seen is good. This is the smell of all the memories of childhood candy stores, goodie bags, easter baskets rolled into a memory. This is how these treats smell on the archetypal rather than earthy level. This is a woman looking back at childhood with fondness, realizing she's still the same person and nothing's lost, only added on, and she feels better about life in general. How's that? This scent is purplish pink to me, and soft. It turns slightly cake like after a few hours, and brings a very warm, cozy feeling. On my skin, the incense only appears towards the end, and brings a feeling of other centuries with it. In that respect, this was a very evocative scent to me...it doesn't smell contemporary in any way, shape, or form, and that's what I love about it. It's only slightly foody while maintaining a nice blend of fruit and coconut. This musk and incense is minimal on me, and I usually amp musk and incense. This smells sweetly clean without being at all generic. It has good throw, around 4 feet, and good staying power. I tested it on my wrist and behind one ear last night and could still smell it this morning. 5 out of 5 stars
  7. Don't know about you guys, but on me, Schrodinger's Cat smells like 25:43 only better, lol! It always has kind of a weird undertone to me, kind of almost mildew-like, that always ruined it. This does not.

    Schrodinger's Cat

Well what can I say?! It works great with my skin. In the bottle it really does smell kind of of of harsh, and resinous. Lime+Lavender= "do I really want this on my body" Wet: Smells like Irish Spring soap 20 minutes later: LIME! no...Lavender/mint?..no, grapefruit soap? no, LAVENDER! No, lime.... all the notes are screaming at each other, and it slowly morphs, each note lessening a bit in it's intensity, to... 60 minutes later: ..... a beautifully fresh, creamy, sweet lime on my skin. wow! I didnt' see THAT coming, lol! And it stays that way, too. Once and a while I'll get a whiff of florals, maybe a touch, just a touch, of powder, but mostly a nice citrus with a touch of floral. Not exactly candy, but definitely sweet, but that's me, I amp sweet. Don't know if I'll buy a bottle, will hold on to the frimp. 4 out of 5 stars. Edit to add: Make that 5 out of 5 stars. I accidentally washed the frimp and sent it through the drier It's still lovely, lol!!!! Actually, this really grew on me anyway, and I believe it's a lovely, lime-filled sweetie pie perfect for spring I'm not getting a bottle right now, because evil me is getting some other bottles that will disappear fast, lol, but when I get a chance, I'll get it. Great scent with decent staying power. Edit to add AGAIN: Well. I finally have been fully bitten by the bpal bug. I've been on the fence for two months over this stuff, and Schrodinger's Cat has hooked me. I guess aging the oils REALLY DOES work!!!! and maybes sending it through the laundry, lol!!!

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

Let's see...white florals are verboten. They kill me...I wore Bayou yesterday and had a migraine the entire time it was on me. And the scent turned blergh as well. House of Night did a similar thing, but not as intensely. I liked Eclipse, but it made a nasty sore red mark on my skin. *is sensitive* *isn't very happy about it sometimes* Then there are scents my skin eats alive, like White Rabbit, The Lion, Coyote, Dorian...it seems that musk and tea type notes just go bye-bye on me and I have no idea what any of this means, lol except there are some things, like rose, frankincense, sandalwood, patchouli, that go really really really well with my skin, and everything else is either meh or sudden death.

    Bayou

Oh no, this is not for me AT ALL. In the imp...very white floral, with a heavy undertone that's fascinating. I immediately thought, this will either go very well or very poorly for me. On the skin wet: Definitely strong white floral, with a hint of warmth, almost bee's wax underneath. Rather lovely. On dry down: Well. This is when things got bad for us. Turned to old lady powder and gave me a horrible headache. My guess is it's either Gardenia or Magnolia doing it. I smell like a perfume/perfume powder my mom used in the 60's or 70's, and I didn't like it then and really don't like it now Dry: floral powder to the nth degree of get the heck off me now. The headache is gone, but I REALLY do not want to smell this way ever again. I am NOT a white blossom feminine kind of woman at all. 1 out of 5

    The Night-Raven

ITI--sharp, strong scent. Not unpleasant, but almost medicinal to me. Wet: Oh, I'm not to sure about this! If black had a scent, this is it. Harsh, reminds me of ink, almost metallic on me. 20 min: Hey, it's not harsh anymore at all! Fascinating. Still carries a strong color reference for me...it's deep purple now. A sweetness is starting to emerge, and a muskiness too. I smell plum, rose geranium, and musk. Dry: Lovely. Patchouli comes out a little, florals are there....sweet but not powdery. slightly fruity. What a surprise! Morphs quite a bit from the wet phase. I've worn it all day today, I love this!!!! Never had a perfume like this before; unusually gorgeous. I'll be getting a bottle
  12. nixie3

    Rose Cross

In the imp, my first impression is rose with a bit of an incense background. Wet, very strong rose, gave me a headache! Dry down, very beautiful rose scent on me! Complicated, warm floral, which I love. Long lasting, too...of all the bpal scents I've tried, this one has stuck around the longest and had the best dry down. 5 out of 5 for me. I've worn it a couple more times, and must say, this is a really lovely rose for me. I used a little less than the firs time I tried it, and that took care of the headache. It really has a lovely dry down on me...cleanly sweet, not soapy or cloying. Nice! will probably get a bottle of this!

    The Lights of Men's Lives

So far, this scent is the big winner for me. For some reason, Snake Oil, The Lion, and No. 93 Engine all disappear on my skin, which really makes me kind of go, HUH???!!!? This did NOT happen however, with The Lights of Men's Lives. This is the most beautiful scent, warm, sweet, complex. I love it. In the bottle: smells like butterscotch and this worries me a little Wet: OH. MY. GOD. So this is what the fuss is about. It feels warm on my skin! I feel heat from it! It smells warm. I smell a hint of florals? Dry Down: Rich, bee's wax, vanilla...it sweetens on the dry down. 8.5 hours later, I still smell it. This is more the double the time I had with the others! 5/5 I do love this scent! :wub2: I ordered a 5 ml and ADORE this! Whenever I put it on, a feel a flash of warmth and light and tears come to my eyes. It's golden, comforting, and strong.

    Snake Oil

This is my first review! WOOT! Hmmm....in the bottle, I barely detect scent. Smells kind of like a New Age bookstore.... Wet on skin: Smells sharp, a bit almondy/cherry, almost bitter. Dry Down: As I walk around, I get whiffs of rich sweetness, but when I smell my wrist, still the bitter almond smell. After an hour: A floral is emerging, but the scent itself has very little throw on me. I barely smell the floral. Can also detect a hint of smokiness, almost a leather scent in the background. I like the smell itself, I've never encountered it before. It's interesting because the bitter edge I detect spells "boundary" to me...so instead of feeling inviting, it seems standoff-ish. The word that comes to my mind is haughty. Attractive, but distant. Well, after 3 hours, it still has an edge, but it's not the same haughty, keep your distance edge. It's definitely: "Oh Hai! I'm Spicy McSpice, and this is my little brother, Resinous!" However, my son smells Vanilla!!!! I totally don't smell it! lol!!!! That's on my left wrist (I don't smell anything on my left wrist). On my right wrist, we both smell cherries. I smell spice and cherries, he smells vanilla, cherries, and a little spice. All of this makes me want to cry because my sense of smell is pretty horrible since turning 45 :-( I'll look at my bpal addiction as something I'm giving the people around me :-) BECAUSE my husband DID keep nuzzling up to me saying "Mmmmm, you smell nice" even though I couldn't smell anything at all, lol! Hour later: On second thought, I think my nose (like the rest of my everything) is really sensitive, which is why all I can get are the spices, they do overwhelm me, which is why I think I'll be much happier with this when it's aged a bit. From the reactions of the males around me, it's a keeper. For me, after the initial dominator hour, it's a pleasant, inviting scent. It has more throw than I can smell, it has a pleasant effect on myself, and people around me. What I get in the dry down is playful in mood, and optimistic. Nice scent! 4/5 for a fresh batch. Will report back in 6 months.
