  1. I admit it -- I seem to have enabled my 2 1/2 year old son. He loves to look through my imp collection and pick things for me to open so he can sniff them. ("I wanna smell on the little stick, Mommy!). He gives me reviews of new scents (even though they are usually just "Good" or "Bad"). He likes to tell me what I should wear in the morning. ("Mommy, you wearing White Rabbit today, okay? It smell like tea."). He comes with me to the mailbox, and we both look in hopefully. ("We get a package of perfume in there today?") And now he's got a personal scent. Delirium. ("Delirium, put it on my wrist, okay? I smelling a little rosy now. Mmmm I smell good on my hand.") He insisted on wearing some to preschool on Tuesday; if the teachers noticed, they didn't say anything. Any other good recommendations for scents appropriate for very young boys?
  2. See, I think of Port-Au-Prince as a pirate scent too, but I have no idea if that's based in reality or just cause it's so sexy. I consider Port-au-Prince to be my pirate scent. Marzipan pirates!

    Owl Baby Night Scents

One drop of TKO on the pillow really helps my 3 1/2 year old on tough nights. Only problem is when I tuck him in I am tempted to stay in there, it's so cozy.

    A Bachelor's Dog

This is the smell of my father's leather jacket after he gave it to me, a comforting and masculine smell, a giant hug. He's been gone almost a decade now, but smelling this scent brought a lot of memories back in a rush. Scent is such a powerful thing.

    Has No Hanna

On me, this is roses, and very strangely, pappadums. Curry powder and black pepper.

The Arrival at the Sabbath and Homage to the Devil

I seem to love sandalwood + foody. Underpants = vanilla + sandalwood. Velvet = chocolate + sandalwood. And now this = caramel+ sandalwood to me. Gourmand, but not super sweet on me, and it's not really getting cloying. I wish I could smell the florals, but overall, I like it.

    Sweet dried grasses scents

To me, Roadhouse is very like what I think of as a "new mown hay" scent.

    TKO

Putting this on and lying down gives me the mental image of sinking into a giant lavender marshmallow. While Sleepy Moon and Somnus help my body rest if I am fidgety, this one settles my racing mind so that a tired body can fall naturally to sleep without worries chasing each other around in my brain and keeping me awake. So thrilled with this blend!

    Lilium Inter Spinas

Lilium Inter Spinas: In the bottle: Slightly honeyed floral with a bit a of a viney note. Pretty. On the skin. Instant soap. Granted, lovely high end perfumed soap, and if I smelled like this after washing with a designer soap I might not be displeased. But the primary note is in fact, soap. Swap.

    Halôa

Mulled wine and warm cake. This kicks in a serious scent memory for me, from about 17 years ago – mulling wine in the microwave in my boyfriend's dorm room for the folksinging gatherings we used to have there, which is a very emotionally complex memory for me. On the other hand, it's also intensely warm and Yuleish without having any pine or fir in it at all, so that makes me happy. A keeper.

    Hymn to Proserpine

In the bottle: Dark fruit and bright resin. On the skin: This is gorgeous, dark and regal, a glimmer of light in the depths of the Underworld. Amber and pomegranate are primary on me, though I think I get some sandlwood. Sadly, the throw is not strong and I really have to get my nose right up to it to smell it. A beautiful, lowkey, winter scent, very appropriate for a meditative mood.

    Chaos Theory III: Strange Attractors

CCCLIII: Got a quarter imp of this as a swap freebie. My initial inpression is GIrl Scout Thin Mint Cookies, with a strong sharp clean peppermint and a baked-goods vanilla. As it settles down on my skin, I'm getting more of the minty little sister of Underpants, spunky but not yet sexy. Delish! Previously reviewed by edenssixthday.

And There Was A Great Cry In Egypt

This is very blended to me -- musky, resinous, and rich, with a bit of a rich citrus note sneaking in for a bit on me. It does give the impression of a Biblical scent. The scent is very light for the style, with almost no throw on me, and I need to stick my nose on my arm to smell it much, so I won't buy a bottle, but it's a beautiful creation.

    Mabon 2004

The very first thing I get from this is open-fermented apple cider, the stuff you get when you take raw pressed cider from an orchard and just leave it to ferment with wild yeast. As it settles into my skin, some of the herbal notes come out, and just a wee hint of blackberry. This works for me way better than the Harvest Moons do -- the fermented note is very bright and bubbly, and I'm not being distracted by any "Harvest Spice" kind of vibe. Hooray for Fall!

    The Best Ylang Ylang Scents!

I've been on the pill for a decade, except when I was pregnant, and I love ylang-ylang. So go figure.

    Port-Au-Prince

Two words: marzipan pirate. Forget Anne Bonny, Jolly Roger, or Grog -- this is my new pirate dress-up scent!

    Help with Jasmine scents, please!

I know lots of folks here aren't jasmine fans...but I am, provided it's balanced out right. For those who like jasmine, what are your favorite jasmine scents?

    Mouse's Long and Sad Tale

In the bottle: The gentle sweetness of the sweet pea comes through, the same note that starts out dominant in Aeval. On the skin: This spices up nicely as it sits and the woods come through, and is really enjoyable after sitting on the skin a short while. It's got a bit of a musty thing it passes through after that, and then the amber comes out dominant and it ends up kind of like a mild creamy version of The Lion after about an hour. The amber hangs on for a long time. Nice!

    Monster Bait: Underpants

In the bottle: Vanilla rum custard. On the skin: The woody and saffron notes fill in underneath, without really changing the custard scent too much. This smells like a pretty girl eating custard cake with her hands and flirting with you. Very sexy.

    Swank

I should have realized that "pomegranate martini" was only a small step away from "strawberry wine cooler". Fruity and boozy, but not sophisticated like I would have hoped. *sigh*

    Midnight

Last night, at about the appropriate time, I tried this one on. The description's pretty much right -- it's a lovely melange of white night-blooming flowers. But more dramatically, at least for me, it's the smell of insomnia. It's a walking garden somewhere in the South, on a day that was way too hot, but the evening's cooled down. You're alone in the moonlight after everyone else has gone somewhere else. Somehow you didn't want to join them but you're not ready to go to sleep yet. So of course, then I couldn't sleep. I lay awake in my bed for an hour or two, sniffing the perfumed air and feeling a little melancholy. This is a devastating scent for me right now, a calm solitude shot through with moody wakefulness, not at all what I need. But it's really perfect in terms of the design of a gothic perfume. It's beautiful, evocative, and brings forth a mood that's really not for everyone.
  23. Good point. I should probably make him a dilution of his beloved Delirium.
