    The Unheavenly City

Oh this is by far my favorite of the Convergence scents. It smells like roses to me too, but not the bpal rose scent I'm used to. It actually really does smell like the Portland rose gardens, although the memory it evokes for me is right after a big storm. There's another floral note in there, but I'm miserable at telling them apart. One of the other reviews mentioned gardenia and that sounds right, maybe? And there's definitely a spicy note which I'm thinking is dragon's blood? I'd describe the scent as a wet, yet spicy floral. There's a sophisticated yet soft feeling to it too and this is definitely a scent I'll be wearing to work.

    The Crumpet Rebellion

I'm horrible at reviews and picking out notes but I'll give this a try... The Crumpet Rebellion is definitely a sweet and foody scent, although not overpoweringly so. Delicious is the best way to describe it. When I first put it on, it seemed to be pretty much straight black currant with just a hint of something like sweet cream. As it dries, the black currant softens and blends more with the other notes and I'm getting something that reminds me of sugar cookies still baking in the oven. It reminds me of a softer, less boozy version of Monster Bait Closet. Black currant and I don't always get along, but it works really well for me in this scent.

    Danube

Oooh I like this one. Really I don't know how better to describe it than just using the lab description. I used to visit this rhododendron park in my home town and this scent smells exactly like that park did after the rain. Mostly rhododendrons with a hint of the aquatic notes. I'm not a huge fan of the pure floral scents, but I can definitely see wearing this one when I'm in the mood for something floral. Not big bottle worthy, but I'm keeping the imp. 3.5/5

    Delirium

Ugh, I really wanted this to work because I love apple and I like a lot of the lab's rose blends. But I was wary of the lemon. And as I was afraid of, on my skin it's just lemon, lemon, lemon. From a distance there's a hint of the rose, but it's a soapy perfume-like rose, not the lovely scent from Peacock Queen which is one of my favorites. Sadly no apple at all.

    Bliss

Mmmmm...yes, this is just pure lovely chocolate. I was a bit wary of trying this one because some of the other chocolate scents from the lab really haven't worked well on me at all, turning bitter or plastic on my skin. But this is perfect. The only downside is that it faded pretty quickly on my skin. 4/5

    The Peacock Queen

I suppose there isn't really much to add to the other reviews. It's rose. It's the perfect rose. I've been searching for a good rose scent, one that isn't too sweet, isn't too soft and powdery and I have finally found it. This smells exactly like the fresh roses on my desk. It's far more mature than most of the other rose scents I've smelled. This one brings to mind images of a sophisticated woman in a little black cocktail dress sniffing a bouquet of freshly cut dark red roses. And perhaps pricking her finger on one of the thorns.

    Elegba

Gah, this is just fabulous. *drools* It smells a lot like Red Lantern, which is one of my favorite scents. It smells like a perfect spiced coconut rum to me, like Captain Morgan meets Malibu. I probably don't need a big bottle of this, since I still have my Red Lantern, but yet i can't resist... The nice thing about Elegba is that it is a little lighter than RL, so I don't feel like I've gone straight past work and into a very debauched happy hour if I put it on in the morning. Throw and stay are both moderate. 5/5

    Beaver Moon 2005

Do you ever have one of those scents that you know isn't working on you and yet you refuse to accept it and still become obsessed with it? Yeah, that's me and Beaver Moon. It's so close to working, it has it's beautiful sweet vanilla frosting moments that make me feel the need to hoarde all the imps of this I can find. And then I catch a whiff of what can only be described as burnt sugar and plastic. And yet I keep buying it. *headdesk* But in its good moments, it's so wonderfully good. It just feels warm and cozy, like you're wrapped in a blanket in a cabin with a mug of rum-spiked cocoa and a plate of brownies. Even though it smells nothing like chocolate... Must. Stop. Buying. Beaver. Moon. ETA: Gah, and then my coworkers all tell me just how wonderful it smells. NOT HELPING!

    Eclipse

This is one of those scents that when I first smelled it in the vial, it almost went straight to the swap pile. But I grabbed it on a whim this morning and forgot about it until about halfway through the day. At first, I get the same sharp almond scent on my skin that I sniffed in the bottle. It's way too much for me and I love both foodie scents and almonds. But this was, as the description says, bitter almond. As it started to settle in, the cinnamon came out next. I'm not normally great at picking out notes in scents, but it's surprisingly easy with this one. The cinnamon takes it from a bitter almond scent to more of a spicy almond scent and I think if it stayed like that, I'd be happy, but it keeps changing. The vanilla seems to come out next and it finally settles into what I can only describe as a warm, spicy vanilla. But the thing is? I should like a warm, spicy vanilla but there's just something about this scent that turns my nose off and actually makes me a little queasy. I'm guessing it's the frankincense, although I'm not really certain what that smells like. Oh dear, and now that rather unpleasant note is getting stronger. It smells like...vanilla armpit. *sigh* Off to the swaps pile.

    Three Witches

I didn't care so much for this when I first sniffed it in the imp and had putting off trying it until today. Oh my god was I wrong. This is amazing. I'm actually not a huge fan of the heavier spicy scents but this is just perfect. It smells just like a chai tea latte to me. I can definitely smell the clove, with a faint edge of cinnamon, but it's also like someone tossed in some milk to mellow it out. It's light enough to not be overpowering, but it has a good throw and doesn't seem to be fading much. This is a 5/5 for me and I definitely need more.

    Fortunato

So far I'm 0 for 2 on these Maelstrom scents. And damnit, I love Poe. But I can't even give a good description of this one because I actually had to wash it off. Something turned very ammonia-like on my skin and I haven't figured out what it is yet, but I didn't particularly fancy smelling like cat urine.

    Montresor

Oh I wanted to like this one. It smelled promising in the bottle, but as soon as it hit my skin it was all vile cherry cough syrup and nastiness. There's an almost menthol quality to it. And what's underneath, the oak and vanilla is actually quite pleasant, but the gross menthol-cough syrup thing overpowers it. In a way, it's almost more cruel that way because when I just catch that undertone, I love it, but then the menthol-y cough syrup reasserts itself. *sigh* Oh well. Probably for the best that I don't fall in love with another LE. 1/5

    Machu Picchu

My first reaction is that this smells *exactly* like Prescriptives Calyx except without that harsh alcoholic note of most commercial perfumes. It's a very green floral. There's a note that seems to soften it and I'm wondering if it's threatening to go powdery on me. As it dries down, it seems to fade pretty quickly and I wish it was a bit stronger, but it's still fabulous. There does end up being a slight powdery-ness too it, but mostly it's just a musky, green floral. And okay, so the powder only seemed to last a minute before shifting into...well it's like it hums, as odd as that sounds. (I just started writing down random notes and thoughts throughout the day, if that wasn't obvious.) I ended up reapplying it twice during the day, which is probably a testament to both how much I loved it and how little it lasted. I'm going to buy a 5ml and likely go through it ridiculously quickly, but it's just so pretty.

    Goneril

I adore this scent. It's very floral and I didn't think I would like the florals so much, but I'm finding that if they have a deeper undertone, they really appeal to me and Goneril is no exception. The floral-ness is almost too overwhelming while wet, but I still love it and the only way I can think to describe it is as if someone took a bunch of magnolias, lilies and roses, threw then in a swamp and stomped on them. Hmm...and looking at the description, the only flower out of those three that's actually in the perfume is the calla lily. The magnolia is likely geranium. Not sure where I'm getting rose, but I never could tell my flowers apart anyway.

    Marquise de Merteuil

Oh wow, I adore this scent. My first thought is that it smells very much like something you would find at a department store counter, but without that alcoholic edge. It's definitely a stately floral as advertised. There's a sharpness to it, that fades as it dries. I can't really pick out any specific notes (I'm still new to this) but there's an almost musky undertone to the floral top. Really I just want to completely cover myself in it from head to toe.

    Pumpkin Patch III (2005, 2006)

Eep, my first review. Be gentle? So I picked up a decant of Pumkin Patch #3 off LJ and after sniffing the bottle was pretty eager to try it. At first this thing just makes me want to eat my arm it smells so buttery and wonderful and rich. I should mention that I'm still awful at picking out individual notes, but as it dries, I start to feel rather iffy about this one. There's something in here that I really like and something that smells just a little off. I'd call this a woody, buttery scent with an edge of sweetness. I really keep swinging back and forth between loving and hating this one. One moment I think it's growing on me, the next I just want to get it off. In the end, I think it's getting to be too much for me. I'm getting the slight headache at the base of my skull that I sometimes get and while the scent itself is generally pleasant, it does have a fairly generic "candle shop" scent to it on me. On a scale of 1-10, I'd put this at about a 5. I can tell it's one that's going to tempt me from time to time, so I'm keeping the imp, but I'm going to end up putting it on and going "oh shit, that's why I don't wear this one. Later: No, it's moving down to 4. The headache is worsening and the candle store is getting stronger. Damnit, I wanted to like this one. Off to the swap pile.
