    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

So I'm looking for (craving really) more vanilla! I'd like to expand my collection a bit. Would appreciate recs! My favorite vanillas: Snake Oil, Banshee Beat, and Snake Charmer. Also, I loove my Black Vanilla & Cardamom hairgloss! Wish I could turn it into a perfume oil! With that being said.... I've not been able to find any of these LE's I just listed above. Pretty much giving up on those until they decide to finally release Revanent Rhythm. (What's taking so long?!) And fingers crossed that Snake Charmer will make a comeback! Do you guys have any recs for me that are in my vanilla range? Some scents that are currently striking my interest... Gypsy Moth (though there seems to be more negative reviews, looks amazing!), Hope & Fear Set Free, and Madagascan Vanilla Rum. Vanilla type scents I'm not looking for - Eat Me, Mouse's Long & Sad Tale, TKO. Those are all nice. But a little too nice. Also, honey is usually a deal breaker for me. I do like Lyonesse and wear that when I'm feeling all innocent or need a light work scent. Vanilla + Aquatic was surprisingly good to me.

best bpals to wear when it rains

We tend to have humid weather when it rains (all the time really). Though I'm not a fan of sticky, Louisiana weather, it really brings out the scents I'm wearing! My faves are Snake Oil, Vixen, and Mme.Moriarty.

    The Smell of an Inn

Perversion is awesome! One of my faves. There are so many other notes like the tobacco, leather, and rum going on..... I don't need get white wine at all. I think you should def give it a try

    Insects

I'm going to attempt to review this unique scent! In the bottle and wet on skin: Hello there black patchouli! Very earthy. I happen to love patchouli so this is not a bad thing. However, not much else going on at this stage. As it dries: The other notes begin to emerge. I definitely get the dried purple fruits, which lend a little sweetness. There is something else going on here but I'm not sure what. This scent is very unique. Earthy, dark, sleek, even a little dusty as some others have mentioned. It continues to morph on me... Dry: This is awesome! I don't have anything like this. I don't get the neroli until the later stages. And I love this finale stage! It now smells like an expensive perfume - a damn sexy one. Like something from Dior or Tom Ford, for example. It has really great lasting power and fades beautifully. Final impression: If Insects was a color, it would be darkest purple. This is a gem in my collection! If dark scents are your thing, Insects may be for you!

    Blood Popsicle

The scent of frozen Type O negative. I am thrilled I had the opportunity to score a bottle of this! Blood Popsicle is one complex scent indeed. I don't think I could effectively describe it. Salty, sweet, metallic, slightly fruity, incensey, cool and warm, unisex! I think I can even get a little of the Popsicle stick in there. Strangely wearable though. I think I could get away with wearing this in the office. Maybe? Verdict: I love it! and bonus...so does my husband. Total win and all around awesome scent experience! Instant top fave.

Sugary or creamy delicate floral scents

I didn't get any spice (one of the reasons she didn't work for me!) I thought it was very pretty, but I ended up rehoming it to my daughter who likes the softer type scents. Its worth a try! I guess sometimes its just a matter of skin chemistry. Good luck in your scent quest! Edited to add a few more recommendations - Mouses Long and Sad Tale and The Last Unicorn

Sugary or creamy delicate floral scents

If I remember correctly, Alice was a creamy floral to my nose. Curiouser and curiouser. Milk and honey with rose, carnation and bergamot.

    Cicuta

The description for Cicuta is dead on. I'd like to add that this is the most beautiful and subtle rose I've ever encountered in bpal so far. It definitely translates as dried, dusty rose. And it's so lovely paired with the other notes! I adore this scent. It has such a gothic, romantic feel to it. Instant love

    Love Me

Love me is my newest love! As many previous reviewers have said, I get the following notes - a little Jasmine, Patchouli, Dragons Blood, maybe a small dribble of cinnamon, and a teensy bit of vanilla. On me, the patchouli is the most dominant. It doesn't smell like Snake Oil to me, but I get a similar feel, and I think that is why I am loving this so much. I am drawn to it. I feel more confident when I wear it. Something about this definitely reminds me of New Orleans. Its very familiar and not just in an incensey, smells like a voodoo shop I've visited kind of way. Though I wouldn't be surprised if many of these notes were similar to the ones used in Marie Laveau's love oil!

    Apple IV

One of my favorites of the weenies I have tried from this year! Initially, this is all green apple. I did not think I would like this at all! Then, as it dries, it turns to a subtle red apple! But this scent is in no way overly fruity or sweet. Its balanced so well with the other notes. The clove does not take over like it does in so many other blends I've tried. It just adds warmth and depth. LOVE

Dead Leaves, Bourbon Vanilla, and Myrrh

This is one of my fave new fall scents! The initial stage - the classic dead leaf note that Beth does so well. So earthy and evocative of fall. As it dries it definitely morphs! I still get dead leaves, but they are now in the background. The myrrh and bourbon vanilla balance things out and make this oh so beautiful. It fades pretty quickly on my skin, but I love it nonetheless. Bottle worthy.

    Something sweet and STRONG? *newbie*

Snake Oil! Still nothing else I've tried compares to its gloriousness! Aged preferably. I love fresh snake oil too, but find the aged brings out more of the syrupy, vanilla sweetness!

    Sleepytime BPAL

I've been searching for some lavender/herbal relaxing blends. So far, Nocturnus and Lacus Oblivionis look like they are right up my alley! thanks for the recs on those. Sleepy Moon is also intriguing, but some of the reviews say it turns soapy (which I can't stand). Still thinking of giving it a try though, and its up on the Etsy page right now!

    Spellbound

Spellbound... Such a beauty. There's something about this scent that captures me. When I first started collecting bpal, I did not care for Rose anything. But spellbound has changed that. It has become a sort of gateway to my newfound appreciation for Rose! The description is right on- roses, amber, and red musk. Yet it's so much more! Spellbound evokes a feeling. It's very comforting to me. I think it may have to do with a childhood memory. My dad bought me a leather (rose scented) rose from the Renaissance festival many years ago. To this day it is one of my fondest memories with my Dad. This is the scent of that rose

    Osmanthus

I did try fairy bites and my skin just turned into honey. I always amp honey though!
  16. ziggystardust13

    Osmanthus

My sweet olive trees are blooming and omg, everytime the wind blows or I walk past them the scent is totally intoxicating. So sweet and unique I think I must try Sanctus and Belle Vinu. I'm quite surprised she didn't use more osmanthus (sweet olive) in any of her New Orleans themed blends, besides Halloween: New Orleans. It's so prevalent down here! I tried Halloween: Nola, but something goes very strange on me and I really dislike it. I get the sweet olive but whatever that strange note is totally ruins it for me. But many people seem to love that blend so wanted to throw that one out there. Now finding it is another story!

    Sugared incense

No fair! I don't think I'll ever get to see what Fairy Market is all about
  18. ziggystardust13

    Sugared incense

Yep! When I first tried it I got all ivory soap. That was as soon as I took it out of the mailbox! After a few days, all the incense started coming out. I'm hoping it comes out even more as it ages. I definitely prefer the dry stage to the wet stage. Im not too familiar with blue musk - maybe that was the soapy scent mixed with some of the florals? idk!
  19. ziggystardust13

    Sugared incense

Adding a rec for Midnight on the Midway! Once it dries it smells just like sweet nag champa incense
  20. ziggystardust13

Help me find a scent, I have no idea where to start!

I would suggest The Last Unicorn and perhaps Eat Me!

    Jacob's Ladder

2010 version. This is So beautiful. It is perfect, golden light in a bottle. Of all the bpals I own, I think this one falls into the most comforting category. It's incensey without being too strong. It's Ambery without being too powdery. It's perfectly sweet! I just love Jacob's Ladder beyond words. I look forward to trying different years and stocking up when Yule time rolls around!

    Creamy Spicy Florals, a/k/a Florientals

Hell's Belle - all the way! I'm actually searching for more scents like Hell's Belle - so recs are appreciated! I haven't come across any other scents that are similar. I love the creaminess/spice. I adore magnolias and gardenias also. They remind me of home because they grow everywhere here in Louisiana!
  23. ziggystardust13

    Jazz Funeral

Wow. This is nostalgic! So many familiar smells going on here... *Louisiana girl here* The notes hit me in waves. Its the oddest thing. First and foremost I detect the dirt/moss. I love earthy blends so this is not a bad thing! Then I get wafts of white southern florals (magnolia) which adds a little sweetness. I barely detect bpal's rum note (one of my favorite bpal notes), but I know its wavering underneath somewhere. Oh there it is! The boozy note barely lingers for a moment before it disappears again. And I continue to experience the notes unfolding in this way and its so interesting and beautiful! This is one of those bpals that takes me beyond perfume. It's an experience. I am instantly reminded of the reasons I love my home and culture. eta: I love to wear this to bed. Its very calming!

    Ethereal Scents?

The Phantom Queen is oh so gorgeous and ethereal but I don't think we'll ever meet again But I just acquired a bottle of The Last Unicorn so I'd like to add that as a recommendation! It's a little ethereal and slightly earthy at the same time. It's very pretty.

    Phoenix Steamworks

Phoenix Steamworks started out promising, but turned into a honey single note. Not really sure how or why! not a fan
