Wine, Beer, Rum, Bourbon... the booze scents
ziggystardust13 replied to spark's topic in Recommendations
So turns out boozy scents in general work for me. I'm also loving rum and chardonnay notes! Perversion has become my absolute fave. Would love to try some others. I see a lot of rum scents that are in the aquatic category (usually not my type of scent) but I am up for trying anything. Love aquatic on my hubby though. Can't wait to test Jolly Roger on him! I am, however, keeping my eyes open for other rum type scents for myself! Jazz Funeral is def on my list, along with Grog. Recs welcome -
2013 Version Black Butterfly Moon is gorgeous. Dark and luminous indeed! Like others have said, this reminds me of an expensive perfume. So sultry. Its not too sweet. Not too floral. Not too resiny. Just a perfect blend of all the notes mentioned. No note really sticks out to me. And this lily is divine. It doesn't go soapy at all! I'm so happy I took a chance with this one. I don't have any other bpal oils quite like this one! And my husband loves it too, which is a plus.

Do it! I totally dropped hints to my hubby back in April! It worked haha
-
I think you should definitely try Snake Oil! Not a candle type vanilla and it is also resiny! Especially since you liked Vixen... Of all the bpal scents I've tried, its still my favorite!
-
Siren won me over by surprise. I love the smell of jasmine, but typically I can't wear bpal jasmine. I know, so sad But Siren is an exception! I have been reaching for this little imp a lot lately, and I have figured out why. This scent is very uplifting to me. It's bright and beautiful and glows. It smells like jasmine in true form. But sweetened with apricot and vanilla. The white ginger gives it a spicy, sexy edge. Love it.

I think you would like As Above. I found it very similar to Haute Macabre. Also, Liz and Perversion (one of my personal favorites!)

From the notes listed, this seemed like it might be my perfect scent. And I love the bottle art! Sniffing out of the bottle, this also seemed sooo promising! But on its a different story. I can only attribute it to my skin chemistry. This pretty much turned into a honey single note on my skin. And my skin doesn't like honey. I think this scent would be so amazing on someone else though!

Oh Jack. My newest love! Jack is sweet without being too sweet. Only slightly gourmand to my nose (mostly in the wet stages). It is my perfect fall scent that I have been looking for. The notes are so beautifully blended. The peach isn't too peachy, just adds a brightness to the scent. The spices round the scent out perfectly and my skin is not amping the clove like crazy. I love cloves, but it generally takes over all the other notes. It plays nice here and is very much in the background. This scent is not a heavy one. I definitely don't understand how some people think this is strong. Its soooo light. After 5 minutes I can barely get a whiff of it. Unless there is something wrong with my bottle? Either way, I will slather myself in Jack any day of the year!

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Just wanted to say that to my nose, Tavern of Hell reminds me very much of J'adore (which I used to wear)! -
Enable my habit: What would you recommend?

Mouse's Long and Sad Tale, Hollywood Babylon, and Hell's Belle seem like they might be right up your alley! -
Ok guys, I need a recommendation and I believe it may fall into the almond category... I want to smell like wedding cake!!! Any recommendations?
-
I received a generous frimp of Silver Haired Bat. Though vanilla is not listed, I just want to say this is a beautiful vanilla scent to my nose! I guess its the benzoin that my nose is interpreting as vanilla. I love this stuff!

This stuff is GOOD. To me, it smells exactly as described. I use a black vanilla shampoo, so it layers so well with that too! I get a strong whiff of the black vanilla, which to me has always smelled like a grown up, sophisticated vanilla. Followed by the cardamom and a cinnamon note. mmmm spicy vanilla! I'm not exactly what sure what oud smells like, but I do picky up on a faint woody scent. Overall, I find this to be very rich, warm, and intoxicating. Edited to add: The bottle art is beautiful, so I keep this baby on display in my bathroom!
-
Wow, I never thought this would smell good! it's hard to pin point what I'm smelling, other than it reminds me of a commercial perfume. I do get something ozoney and a little floral. Surprisingly wearable if you enjoy scents like that.
-
I think someone referred to this as spiced Indian rose. Yep, pretty much! It's nice for what it is, but not for me. I'm very picky when it comes to my rose scents!

ziggystardust - I know it's been a while since you posted this, but as soon as I read your list I thought of Lucy, Kissed - it was an LE from the Trading Post, but you should be able to track some down Lucy, Kissed Diabolical voluptuousness, a siren song from the grave: juniper and yew brushing against blackened violets and funeral roses, red musk and hot blood, veined white marble and icy, brittle musk, all pulsing with the sinister, hypnotic scent of patchouli, amber, oude, and cubeb. I know that might sound like an odd mix, but it's a deep warm and sensual patch/musk/smokdy rose - kind of like Snake Oil + Vixen + Midnight Kiss + Rose Red had some sort of illicit romp and Lucy, Kissed is the feral lovechild borne of their tryst Reviews here. ziggystardust - I know it's been a while since you posted this, but as soon as I read your list I thought of Lucy, Kissed - it was an LE from the Trading Post, but you should be able to track some down Lucy, KissedDiabolical voluptuousness, a siren song from the grave: juniper and yew brushing against blackened violets and funeral roses, red musk and hot blood, veined white marble and icy, brittle musk, all pulsing with the sinister, hypnotic scent of patchouli, amber, oude, and cubeb. I thought it already sounded lovely, but the way you described it.... I have never even heard of this one until now! Thanks sooo much -
Oh Dionysia - how I love thee! The scent I reach for when I am craving the perfect plum. And I find that I crave this one a lot. I love the combination of plum/berry fruits with the incensey notes. So pretty with a little something sexy underneath. Such a well balanced, yummy sent. If you want a more grown up version of Bordello - Dionysia is the one.

I finally got to try Snake Oil bath oil. Actually, this was the first bath oil I've tried. About time since snake oil is my holy grail scent. Just WOW. Its like bathing in aged snake oil. Just vanilla/resiny perfection. If that's your thing
-
I LOVE this bath oil! One of my favorite scent combos is orange + patchouli. I was a little worried about the vetiver, I'll admit. But Ira is just pure woody, sensual, yumminess. I felt so grounded and relaxed after bathing in this (and slathering a little more on my skin after!) It was just too good not to. I am definitely going to save up for a bottle!

Obsidian Widow for sure. It's amazing. The wine listed is Pinot Noir, and it is juicy dark and red. Winning. The rose in this is not strong at all, in fact I didn't even know it had rose in it. It's much more of a wine scent than Blood Rose IMO. Thank you Stellamaris! I've added that to my wishlist. -
So happy I got the opportunity to test Elf! Out of the imp: oooh! Herbal, fresh, and a little sweet. Lovely so far! Wet on skin: Evergreen (almost piney) and oh no... Soap?! Dry down: the soap is gone! I've never had a soapy scent go UN soapy on me. Yay! Now I'm getting more of the sweetness and touch of berry. It's a light and uplifting scent. Slightly evocative of another scent I love in this category... Bewitched. My husband's impression: smells like jelly beans! And now that he mentions it, it does. Lol I will probably hold on to my imp. Don't think its bottle worthy for me since I now associate it only with jelly beans. Oh well Edited to add: this dry down smells very much like Snow White!
-
I would suggest The Coiled Serpent. I find that it has a sort of grounding effect for me. Another one that I love is Carnal. Not sure why, it would seem with the mandarin it would be more of an uplifting, energizing scent. But it's very comforting to me and always soothes my nerves. Good luck in your search!

I adore Midnight Kiss Initially, I get a blast of the wine and cocoa. (Note that cocoa usually turns funky on my skin, but in this it somehow works!) The cocoa begins to die down and the wine begins to mingle with the other yummy notes. I definitely get the red musk (which I love) and a little smokiness from the nicotania. I get very little patchouli and amber. They aren't the main players for me, though I'm sure they add depth to the scent. I love this one throughout every stage - wet to dry, but I especially LOVE the dry down. This is sexy without being too strong. Its light and dark at the same time and definitely evokes the color red. final thoughts - This is one of my favorite bpal scents! It's one that I wear with confidence. I'm coming to find that my skin chemistry loves red musk. The one and only complaint is that I do need to slather this one or reapply, as my skin drinks it up after an hour or so. What I'm left with is faint, but gorgeous. Still, I find myself reaching for this one all the time. And I love the label art!

I also love red musk - so this one is added to my wishlist, thanks!
