Good lord, this is a keeper. There are just a handful of BPAL scents that I know immediately are keepers...this has such a complex scent - I really dont smell any of the individual notes, thank god for that - and funny, I never would have chosen this scent based on listed notes. I think what is REALLY appealing to me is the orange blossom and patchouli - and then that bitter lemon scent that reminds me of the old lemon perfume from when I was a kid...and somehow the touch of licorice root holds it together. It smells sophisticated, feminine, calming...something I will try wearing several days in a row to see how it goes. An amazing blend.

    Stentor

Oh lovely strange perfume! I was gifted this in a forum swap. Ive been jonesing to get any of these Song of Nature scents since they came out, and at the time had no money to get decants. This is so up my alley. At first I was dismayed at the strong mint scent - I dont wear mint. I eat mint, and I generally dont like wearing my food. However...as I continually huff my wrist, it has mellowed to a sweet earthy herbal mint, and its unique and herbal enough that its something I can honestly consider wearing in the warmer months. I do wish the khus was just a teensy bit stronger.

    Half-Elf

Finally got to test this! Im shocked to not smell ANY of the listed notes - all I smell is a sweet floral. What in the world?? Is this the tea leaf amping? Sheesh - how disappointing. I hope it does something better when I retest in a couple days. I had such high hopes for this. Most of the other RPG scents are great on me.

Darn it. I hope the patchouli settles down. As usual BPAL patchoulis seem to smell like sawdust on me and not pleasant. It amps badly. I cant even smell the vetiver, and I am a vetiver lover! I will update if it changes into something better...for now it is doing exactly what Sara Pezzini did. sweaty woodchips. Boo - I waited for a long time to try this.

    Implacable Beautiful Tyrant Hair Gloss

Testing things I dont wear... In the bottle its very sweet - the amber sticks out as the main note. Sprayed in my hair it went from a dirty kind of sweaty note to a white ginger predominance. It is kind of bright and clean. Although it's nice, I dont see myself using this one.

    Dysopes Tenuis

The complexity of initial application disappears on me and after 20-30 minutes I'm left with a candy-like sweet rose and nothing else. It's too bad because the notes initially make it tempting to me. But Im not into sweet, or this kind of rose. Im not sure if its the musk or the rose or both. Sadly it's going into my sale pile.

    The Gas Lamps' Flare

I've just tested 3 apple scents, and this is the first one that doesn't turn candy-sweet and unpleasant. For some reason apple amps on my skin extremely, and hides everything else, but I'm hoping that changes(maybe) because the other notes sound wonderful.

    The Lady of Shalott

This scent is sweet and delicious and goes through many stages before it settles to a gingery, aquatic floral. I generally do AWFUL with BPAL florals, but for some reason this works, and is delightful.

    The Smiling Spider

Re-testing lots of things since my skin chemistry has massively changed since I discovered BPAL 6 years ago. So, This one is complex...I love the woody note, as well as the musk and clove. So glad the patch is not amping. Too bad it seems to be fading fast. I do like this one - it's very odd.

    The East

A floral that doesnt hate me or amp just one or two notes. I do detect something trying to kill it, but it's not making it bad. I would love this as a candle or room spray. VERY strong on me.

This is a perfect leather scent...nothing overpowers another, and although the leather amped initially, on drydown, the sweet rum/caramel notes are blending wonderfully. At first it was like leather dipped in butterscotch...but now the patch is also peeking through. After 5 minutes, the leather has taken control again. Although I adore this leather note, I wish it wouldnt take over the other notes like this.

    This is Your Wilderness

I'm getting all the notes! YAY! It started out a VERY green, fresh evergreen/herbal scent...and now it has mellowed to green, but with tinges of tobacco and a slight touch of patchouli. This is great because usually BPAL's patchouli amps on me and turns to something unpleasant when the essential oil is one of my favorites to wear. This is the scent I should wear hiking or camping. It's earthy and comforting.

The Moon Gazed On My Midnight Labours

Earthy, sweet, musky male cologne at first application. It gets very light on me, and I can smell a warm richness that I wish would come out stronger. Alas, I only have a tester imp, and it's about gone. I love men's scents, and this has some of that going for it. Just need more!

    Venerable Priestess of the Wood

On first application, the herbs come to the fore front, but BPAL's frankincense always turns to powder on me, amps, and takes over. This is a disappointment. However, the myrtle and bay are still holding their own, but it's basically an herbal body powder scent - which I would LOVE in a body powder. Will have to try this in a scent locket.

    Haunted Bonbon

So...I remember testing Haunted by itself a long time ago, and it was a no-go. Well..the skin chemistry is changing. I finally smell the TRUE amber and musk here. It's so surprising - no morphing, no baby powder...it's very incensey and nice. The only problem is my skin eats it. BTW, the chocolate note disappears immediately - well, all the bonbon oils do that for some reason

    Venus Obsequens

This started as a pretty fruity floral, very feminine and I liked it! A rarity for a floral, even though the notes don't list any flowers. After 30 minutes, it had sadly degenerated to a tangy, candy smell, something I hate as a perfume. It stayed like that...all the pretty feminine aura gone. I'm pretty sure this is the apple and the honey. They both turn to sweettarts or powder on me, and sometimes honey amps. Usually blackcurrant is a winner.

    Laudanum Bonbon

This is so odd. When I 1st put it on the chocolate came out for a brief howdy, then promptly disappeared. Immediately it was the strong medicinal sassafras - I could barely stand the scent! So, I'm outside, it's warm, I'm re-potting plants...and this warm, delicate, feminine scent keeps wafting past my nose. I smell this again and it's not that...then I realized it HAD to be, so instead of sniffing close to the skin, I sniffed several inches away, and sure enough. This is a new experience for me regarding testing BPAL oils. Anyway, it stays too strong and with a pungent floral note for awhile...it's only after several minutes (15+/-?) that light, warm, beautiful scent comes out. I really WISH it would be that way from application onward.

    Mars Rigonemetis

This began a dark, sweet, complex scent - the musk was lovely. On dry-down, it's sawdust, and faint tinge of musk.. I got no pine tar, birch tar, or black pepper.
  19. grnwoodtree

    Mars Corotiacus

This started out as men's cologne, straight, clean and simple. Dry-down brings out this leather note that I do not enjoy as it smells like old fashioned hospital smell, with a background of faint cologne.
  20. grnwoodtree

    Mars Alator

On first sniff I said to myself, ahh, a sweet tobacco, right out of the humidor...and it stays that way. The fig is dominant, and I a going to try adding more vetiver E.O. to see what happens...because I LOVE VETIVER.
  21. grnwoodtree

    Mars Loucetius

Masculine? Sharp? Cologn-y? This is why my chemistry is so weird compared to everyone else's... I am getting a sweet floral...the rockrose is prominent, but the champaca is overtaking all. Although I like it, it's so one note on me - and now it's fading. Darn. It sounded so good.

    Venus Genetrix

As soon as this touched my skin, the jasmine floral amped, and I couldnt smell anything else. Soon after that, it faded to a very faint floral with possibly the faintest tinge of the amber and tea. So sad...as I sniff my arm again, I barely smell anything. It disappeared in 10 minutes.

    Embalming Fluid Bonbon

well.. Embalming Fluid has always been a no-go for me, but I am reminded exactly why. The chocolate fades immediately and what is left is the trademark medicinal, faintly licoricey, very unpleasant, sort of alcoholic scent that is one of the worst smells I have ever put on my skin. The odor wafting up from my arm as I type this reminds me of the breath of someone who has spent the night drinking licorice schnapps and vodka gimlets and probably has alcohol poisoning. Just sickening! Finishing this quickly so I can run to scrub it off!!

    Alma Venus

This is all orange blossom, neroli on me...I'm getting very little of anything else. It's pleasant and pretty, but a bit too sweet, which is probably due to the amber as well. On dry down, still sweet. It's not til it's been on for 30-40 minutes that the overly sweet aspects fade and the gentler, calming beeswax comes out. I wish more beeswax! So I may try this with Hand of Glory, if I still have it. ETA: Layered this with Hand of Glory - it totally grounds out the cloying sweetness. I'm going to have to try wearing this layered and see what happens.

This is all warm, autumn nights with the scent of pumpkins and spices wafting through the air. It reminds me of aspects of Samhain. It's too bad it doesnt last very long though.
