    Dirty

A wonderful antidote to an all-nighter oozing with drunken, addled perversion and debauchery. A fresh, crisp white linen scent: perfectly clean, perfectly breezy. (ETA: No review from me at this time. I created the new topic at the request of a forumite, who didn't know where Dirty was supposed to go. I WISH I had some Dirty to review! Soon, soooon....) ADDED Feb. 11: Dirty is very fresh, clean and breezy smelling. The only particular note I can isolate is plumeria, but that's just right after application. It definitely encapsulates the smell of freshly laundered clothing. As Lorajc mentioned, I think this would be perfect for someone who doesn't normally wear perfume and doesn't want to smell "perfumey"--just fresh and clean. I have a friend who falls into this category so I think I will save Dirty for her birthday next month!

    Dionysia

Wild plum, pomegranate, raspberry, Siamese benzoin, plum blossom, patchouli, frankincense, and mahogany. First, I feel so unbelievably honored to have been included as one of the Ladies of the Grindhouse. And I feel even more honored that Beth inquired as to my favorite notes so she could include some of them in the blend bearing my likeness. And now even MORE honored to get to try "my" blend a little bit before everyone else! Beth! I'm so not worthy! Dionysia is perfection! I have loved every plum BPAL blend (check my favorites) and Dionysia is no exception. It's a wonderful combination of plum, raspberry, pomegranate, patchouli and wood. The patchouli, frankincense and mahogany keep the scent grounded and keeps it from getting hyper fruity. If I had to compare Dionysia to existing BPAL blends, I would say that it reminds me of the lovechild of Hellion and Bordello (but without the amaretto). A multi bottle purchase for sure! (I'll come back and edit this if I think of anything else, but I wanted to get a preliminary review on here for those reviewers "on the fence" about ordering Dionysia. ) ETA: While wet, I detect an herbal/leafiness that I'm guessing is the plum blossom. On drydown, I smell vanilla in the background, with a light resiny incense. After doing a little research, I see that benzoin has a sweet, warm, vanilla-like aroma! Lovely! If this scent were a color, it'd be a rich, deep, plummy maroon.

    Take a Knee

Take A Knee is definitely a cinnamon-y apple scent, mostly. I smell the grass in the background when I first apply it and it is really nice and fresh, but the grass note fades away fairly quickly on me. It's there in the background as sort of a dry grass scent (like Scarecrow), but the the apple and spices are most predominant. It is a nice, cozy autumn daytime scent and I might get another backup bottle.

    Flor de Maga

Origin: Straight from the Lab Initial Thoughts: I had no idea what this was going to smell like and straight up florals usually aren't my thing, but I wanted to donate to the relief effort so I thought I'd give it a try. In the Bottle: STRONG, in your face tropical floral. I'm a little worried! There is definitely some white floral to it, a bit of greenery, but mostly a lush tropical hibiscus. Wet: Still a bit strong and tropical, but rather than a bright red hibiscus it smells more like a white floral to me. I also smell some tropical greenery. It kind of reminds me of The Hanging Gardens crossed with Tiki Queen (but it has been a while since I smelled the discontinued Hanging Gardens). I'm liking it! Drydown: Definitely worth the wait --it's a lovely, not at all overpowering tropical floral. I'm wearing it at work today, and it is very pleasant and totally appropriate for the office. Verdict: I like it quite a bit, and that is saying something since I am not usually a big fan of straight up florals! If you love florals (and especially tropical florals), I'd definitely recommend it.

    Lovers and a Fan

I bought a bunch of decants of the Shunga scents, so when I got around to trying the imp of Lovers and a Fan I could not remember what the notes were. This scent is very interesting on me, although I did not immediately detect coconut, saffron OR honey! I'm not sure exactly WHAT it smells like, but combined with my chemistry it's intoxicating and I can't stop smelling my wrist! I'm definitely going to need a bottle.

    Ivory Vulva

Not at all "suntan lotion" smelling or beachy, this is more of a rich, sweet, creamy coconut. I found this a really nice, comforting scent.

    Goofballs

I wore Goofballs for the first time today. It was 12 degrees, with a -9 windchill, but this warm, happy summer scent made me think of summer! It really does smell like grass, dirt and dandelions with a touch of musk and a light floral that I can't pinpoint. A very evocative scent that makes me think of summer--and summers of my childhood, in particular. Well done!

    Blueberry Picking

I love this! I get lavender, blueberries and lemon. A very nice light and sweet warm weather scent. I think I will bring it with me on my next cruise.

    Hearts for Ghost Friends

Wet, this is all rose and magnolia on me, which morphs into a baby powder / hyper-floral perfume. It mellows out after a few hours, but the throw is MASSIVE.

    Venustas

I see, er, smell, the comparisons to Dorian, also. On me, it smells like a cross between Dorian and Lilith Victoria with lemony tea. I got imps of all of the Lilith's Birthday scents, and this is my favorite so far.

    Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha

I was excited to try this scent, but my wonky chemistry made it SUPER rose-y with a little bit of frankincense and sage. I'm bummed! I'll test it again, but will probably swap or gift the imp that I have.

    Mi-Go Brain Canister

They were pinkish things about five feet long; with crustaceous bodies bearing vast pairs of dorsal fins or membraneous wings and several sets of articulated limbs, and with a sort of convoluted ellipsoid, covered with multitudes of very short antennae, where a head would ordinarily be.... As it was, nearly all the rumours had several points in common; averring that the creatures were a sort of huge, light-red crab with many pairs of legs and with two great bat-like wings in the middle of their back. They sometimes walked on all their legs, and sometimes on the hindmost pair only, using the others to convey large objects of indeterminate nature. On one occasion they were spied in considerable numbers, a detachment of them wading along a shallow woodland watercourse three abreast in evidently disciplined formation. Once a specimen was seen flying””launching itself from the top of a bald, lonely hill at night and vanishing in the sky after its great flapping wings had been silhouetted an instant against the full moon. The Mi-Go are the Fungi from Yuggoth [the planet we naïvely dubbed Pluto], a crustacean-like, winged humanoid race that travel to the highest mountain peaks on Earth to mine for minerals. They do pick up the occasional human brain during their trips to Earth, which they transport back to Yuggoth in a canister. While in this brain jar, the transported brain is fully-conscious, and, thanks to the miracles of modern Mi-Go technology, is possessed of all its faculties and the power of speech. In an effort to create a pleasing environment during a surprise trip to Yuggoth, we have created a soothing yet stimulating blend of pink pepper, peony, jasmine, mango, kiwi, pomegranate, pineapple, white ginger, serene white tea and light musks. Bon voyage! Bottle description: The standard blue cobalt bottle, with the standard size label. Almost the entire area of the label is taken up by a very detailed medical drawing of a brain, including the hypothamalus. In the bottle: Fruitylicious! Mango, pineapple, kiwi and pomegranate with ginger. Wet, on my skin: The mango hangs around for a little while, but the other fruits have left the building, and they have been replaced by jasmine and peony. It's an invigorating, youthful, warm weather floral. It's quite a bit more floral than I was expecting, but it's lovely all the same! The color it evokes for me is bright, fluorescent pink! On drydown: I think it is the peony that seems to be the predominant note now. It's a floral, but it's not jasmine that sticks out the most, and I'm not familiar with what pink pepper smells like. The white tea and musks come out on drydown and the ginger reappears. The fruits are still MIA. They seem to have fled Yuggoth in a panic. I'll update my review upon extreme drydown. Maybe they're just hiding. And the little rubbery white brain is really squishy and cute! ETA: Mi-Go pretty much remained peony, tea, musk and ginger on me for several hours. Alas, the fruitiness did not reappear. My chemistry is weird, so it must have amped up the florals to the detriment of my beloved fruits! Still a wonderful scent, though! If anyone here has ever smelled Mary Kay Velocity, this has a similar fruity/floral vibe. Mi-Go doesn't SMELL like Velocity per se, but they both strike me as bright pink and I'd put them in the same scent category.

    Transeo

Transeo is one that I obtained a long time ago and don't think I ever really tested! In the bottle, it smelled very pleasant but the notes were hard to pick out. Now that I see the notes in this review thread, I am flat out shocked, because what I ended up with was a really loud, clanging combination of rose, soap and metal, pretty much from start to finish. I don't know which evil notes could have combined to do THAT, but this is SOOOOO not a good scent for my chemistry! Transeo had a really strong throw and lasted 12 hours. I could still smell it quite strongly when I got in the shower this morning.

    Old books... Books, paper, libraries

Mr. Ibis is a light musk blend that also has paper/papyrus notes. It reminds me of a library.

    Lime!

Seconding (thirding, fourthing, etc.) Detox. Another lime blend that hasn't been mentioned is Muse. It is lime and jasmine, I believe.

Aspen cologne - help me find a smell-alike

My husband used to wear Aspen long ago before I turned him on to BPAL, so I'm familiar with what it smells like. Of the scents that others have listed, I think that Wilde is the closest. Bear in mind, though, that it won't be exact. I think you might also enjoy Black Forest. It is pine-y/woodsy.

    Detestable Putrescence

I picked this up at the C2E2 convention in Chicago. I love it! I am a big fan of vanilla, and this is no exception. Wet, it is straight up vanilla with a creamy edge, so it definitely does smell like vanilla ice cream. On drydown, it is vanilla and something peachy. Reminds me of peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream. I was surprised by the throw on this one. I didn't expect it to last very long or have much throw, but I can still smell it on me 8 hours later. I love it! And I love it when people compliment me on this fragrance and ask me what it's called.

    Skytyping with Chemtrails

I sniffed and purchased this scent at the C2E2 convention in Chicago, and I think it's going to be one of my "go to" scents for this summer. Wet, it is like a freshly squeezed lemon covered in sugar. Lemonade, anyone? On drydown, the citron and lemongrass die down a bit and the white musk become more predominant, and I smell the amber way in the background. I don't specifically detect the other notes (although I'm not sure if I'd recognize elemi, zdravetz, and ravintsara if they smacked me upside the head!), and I don't get a chemical undernote at all. This is definitely a sweet, fresh, light, summery citrus scent with decent throw. If these Chemtrails are skydoom, I'm a goner! ETA: About four hours after drydown, and all traces of the citrus are gone. The faint scent that is left is sweet and resinous. Much different than the way it started out, but also very nice.

    Feeding The Dead

On application, Feeding the Dead smells like a buttery, lemon pound cake! After it has dried down (say, after an hour), the incense comes out. Very nice! Probably my favorite of the Halloweenies this year.

    Velvet Bandito

Velvet Bandito is my favorite of the Velvet series, and I would never have guessed it from the note description! I smell a variety of spices, but clove does seem to be the most prominent. It's also a touch smoky and herbal. I don't smell the cedar until the drydown. Anyone who is a fan of spicy scents like Three Witches or Shub should definitely try this!

    Velvet Dogs Playing Poker

I have not smelled any of the original Dogs Playing Poker scents, so I can't compare the Velvet version. To me, Velvet Dogs Playing Poker smells strongly of stale coffee, burnt sugar, cigarette smoke and wood, but for some reason it strikes me as masculine. It's really not something I'd want to smell like, but it's oddly comforting! It's what I imagine a Men's Only AA meeting would smell like.
  22. Scylla

    Velvet Nudie

Velvet Nudie is my second favorite of the Velvet scents (behind Velvet Bandito). On first application, there is a note that reminds me of Estee Lauder's White Linen. I'm not sure what note is doing that, but it's definitely a floral, possibly a rose. As it dries down, whatever made it smell like White Linen fades away and what remains is very clean, slightly musky and a little citrusy. The scent lasts a long time, but stays close to the skin. A very nice spring and summer scent!

    GOP

Musk, vetiver, woods and spices to my nose. I could tell immediately that it was way too manly to work on me but that my husband would love it. And he does! But he'll never admit to wearing GOP. Or at least the name.

    Independent

In the imp Independent is totally fizzy cola! I asked my husband and kids to tell me what they thought it smelled like, and all three of them concurred! On me, it is still a bit cola-ish and fizzy, but with citrus. Definitely a light-hearted pick me up kind of scent!

Goblin of Yuletide Past Atmosphere Spray

What a great atmospheric spray for the holiday season! It has the snowy notes of my beloved Skadi and has the addition of sugary cookies and maybe a bit of lemon zest. I love it!
