Scylla

On me, Mr. Nancy was key lime pie with a butter cookie crust and a shot of rum as a secret ingredient. It pretty much stayed that way from application to drydown. A very nice summer blend for lovers of foody scents.

Papyrus, vanilla flower, Egyptian musk, African musk, aloe ferox, white sandalwood. I don't get aquatics at all from Mr. Ibis. On my skin, he's almost all Egyptian musk, clean linen (or, presumably, papyrus) and sandalwood. On drydown, I can detect a little bit of vanilla. It's a lovely, clean yet musky scent. Soft and pleasant. I find myself wearing this to the office very often. I almost didn't buy it because I thought it might been too masculine because of the name. What a fool I was!

As suspected previously, I must have some really messed up skin chemistry! I don't get ANY sugared cream at all. All I get is screechingly loud neroli (orange blossom) and carnation. And orange blossom smells nothing at all like oranges--at least on me. A very loud, strong floral.

Oh, yeah, Mad Sweeney definitely smells like a fine barrel-aged scotch whiskey. Definitely don't slather and drive! It's so evocative of Mad Sweeney's character. Well done, Beth!

I tried one of the original turmeric colored Moxie fizzybooms. These things are huge! They're like the size of a softball--way bigger than any other bomb I've tried. The bright yellow bathwater sort of made me feel like I was taking a bath in Gatorade, but it didn't stain my tub or anything. I think I'd prefer a non-colored one, however. The scent is pure Moxie and is very invigorating. I like that these bombs soften and moisturize your skin without leaving your skin feeling covered in oil. Well done!

Punkie Night was all apples on me. So was Coral Snake.

In the bottle, King Cobra did not smell like Snake Oil at all to me. It smelled like a resinous, deep, dark floral blend. I think that this may be the "morphiest" BPAL blend I've ever tried. Upon application, it smelled downright venomous. Er, I mean, it smelled like Snake Oil mixed with my first BPAL love, VENOM! King Cobra must share a resiny component or two with Venom. However, after about an hour of drydown, it changed and the resinous smell from Venom has dropped WAYYYY back. It's there, but not as much as I would like. But I can't detect any hint of Snake Oil. I would say that the BPAL blend King Cobra smells like the most (upon drydown, and on me--YMMV) is The Living Flame, mixed with a bit of resin from Venom.

Upon first sniff of Death Adder, I smelled almost ALL vetiver--and nearly recoiled in horror! Vetiver and I don't usually get along. But I tried a little bit, and it became a really masculine Snake Oil on me. So I told my husband to smell it. He sniffed the bottle, dabbed some on, proclaimed "I love it!" and walked off with it. He was sort of a BPAL convert before, but he actually said something to the effect of, "That's it! I'm only wearing BPAL from now on. You've converted me!" And it smells so sexy and wonderful on him. Death Adder will definitely be a multiple bottle stock-up purchase for Mr. Scylla.

In the bottle, Saw Scaled Viper smelled of, well, Snake Oil mixed with cinnamon and ginger. Exactly what I expected. I am usually really wary of red ginger, because it turns into the smell of hot asphalt on my skin. (No, I'm not kidding--that's what Moxie smells like on me!) The red ginger mixed with the cassia and cinnamon (and Snake Oil) thankfully doesn't go the freshly poured asphalt route, but HOT DAMN! It is REALLY hot and spicy! On drydown, Saw Scaled Viper develops sort of a feral smell behind the spiciness. Which could be the "dirty" smell that kat15lee mentioned a few reviews back. But you know what? I kinda like it!

Boomslang definitely smells like Snake Oil blended with the cocoa note from Velvet. On my skin, it smells like a Snake Oil/Velvet combo. Of the Snake Oil variants I've tried so far, it is the one that smells the most like actual Snake Oil. I just KNEW that Boomslang would be my favorite of the Snake Pit, but surprisingly, it was not to be! It smells wonderful in the bottle, but my chemistry makes it smell less than wonderful. But what a wonderful use for my Phoenix scent locket.

I agree with yeahbutnobut--I think Snow Flakes smells like a cross between Snow White and Ice Queen. It smells like Snow White in the bottle, but ends up morphing into Ice Queen. On my skin, anyway!

Stardust '05 and '06 has a vintage 70's feel to me. It reminds me of the perfumes my mom wore in the 70's. And I think that is precisely the feeling that Beth wa going for when she created it as an homage to glam rock. ETA: I guess I should have clicked on your link first!

I should have learned my lesson about black amber by now. Blends that have it just never work on me. Black amber amps like crazy with my chemistry and gets very sharp and powdery. But, of course, I couldn't resist the bottle because it had Brian's likeness on it. I pretty much knew it wouldn't work on me, but I thought that it would be a good blend for my husband. NOPE. He put on some Doc Constantine before we went to my cousin's birthday party and while we were in the car our daughter said "Why does it smell like old ladies in here?" And you know what....she was right!

In a word, Black Moon is perfection! Somehow I missed it when it was time to order--it just didn't sound like it would work. I was lucky to be able to try it at the recent Chicago meet and sniff and it smells AMAZING on my skin, wafts beautifully and lasts a long time! The only note that I can definitely pick out is the pear, which entwines beautifully with the florals. And I am NOT normally a floral scent person! It has definitely become my all-time favorite Lunacy (and I've been here since the beginning), and, dare I say, could be vying for the spot of my favorite BPAL scent EVER!

Treat #1 reminds me very much of a slightly more fruity, hyper sugary Snow Angel! So if you love Snow Angel, I think you'll love Treat #1!

Snake Oil didn't work on me. Snake Charmer didn't work on me. Smut was HORRENDOUS on me! With that kind of track record, I was more than a little afraid of Mme. Moriarty... But Mme. Moriarty works on me! At first, it was all red musk. Which hates me, so I was a bit worried. On drydown, however, the red musk faded back and it became a lovely spicy, resinous blend of musk, patchouli, vanilla and plum.

Arabian Nights was all rose, carnation (I think) and amber on me. Which is bad, because my chemistry amplifies all three of those notes. What resulted was a cacophony of notes that don't work on me, all trying to drown out one another. So now she's been adopted by a loving new home.

In the bottle: "fruit salad" Wet, on my skin: Holy bubblegum, Batman! This totally reminds me of a fruity version of Jailbait. On drydown: Thankfully, the bubblegum scent fades, but the fruityness remains and an intense sweetness (presumably the spun sugar) comes out. The throw is average, but the scent fades pretty quickly. I couldn't detect it at all 3 hours after applying. It's very, very sweet and fruity. Too sweet and fruity for me, unfortunately. It reminds of a little bit of Pink Phoenix, although Xanthe is fruitier.

In the bottle: HONEY! And tea. Wet, on my skin: The honey note is predominant, but my skin always amps up honey notes. Behind that is tea, then citrus, then mint. This is a refreshing yet comforting blend. Lucky, lucky Macha to have such a wonderful scent made in her honor! ETA: Gennivre has wonderful throw and lasts FOREVER! I could still smell it 18 hours after application. I also got several compliments on it at work. Edited again to add: Gennivre has become my very favorite warm weather scent!

If I were to describe Theodosius in three words, I'd say "manly man's" Dorian!" Not exactly, but perhaps it's the vanilla, musk and fougere that make me think that. Theodosius doesn't seem to have any citrus in it. My husband wouldn't try Dorian because he likes more herbal "manly" smelling oils, but I think he'll be all over this! I'll update after he tries it tomorrow.

I am a self confessed chocoholic and a lover of foody and gourmand fragrances. So, naturally, I was all over Bliss and Vice when I first started my BPAL obsession. They're good, but they're almost single note in their focus. Straightforward chocolate/hazelnut and straightforward cherry/chocolate. Of course Lump of Coal was a must try, and it one upped Bliss and Vice in it's amazing mimicry of the smell of brownies baking. Candy Butcher is another story completely--there is definitely cocoa and vanilla in there, but this is not a totally foody "want to eat my wrist" scent. It's very much a morpher. It's foodiest upon first application, and then it gets more perfumey. It reminds me a little bit of Aquolina Chocolovers, but it almost embarrasses me to make that comparison because Candy Butcher is so much better! Beth has truly outdone herself here--this is by far her best chocolate scent. And Candy Butcher has rocketed like Augustus Gloop up the chocolate pipe straight to heart--and my Top 10 list.

Kalli, perhaps you should try some of the lighter scents? I'm pretty sure there is a thread in the Suggestions subforum where people recommended their favorite lighter scents. Here's what I would recommend: Dana O'Shee Alice Frumious Bandersnatch Embalming Fluid Dorian Zephyr

I remember sniffing judas_kiss' imp of Bathsheba at the Chicago Meet 'n Sniff at Buca di Beppo last November, liking it and making a mental note to obtain some. I just recently got around to ordering an imp of it in my Hungry Ghost Moon order. WOW! Bathsheba works absolutely beautifully with my chemistry! To think that previously I thought that carnations didn't agree with me! It's sweet, slightly fruity, slightly musky and slightly floral, blended to perfection. Bathsheba jumped right into my Top 10! I'm ordering a 10 ml before the 10 mls go bye-bye.

My CTIII: Strange Attractors is #CCLVIII (258?) It's a very clean smelling floral, but it's very difficult to discern the notes. It kind of reminds me of a cross between Dirty and Juliet with a bit of ozone added in. This is what an "Ocean splash" fresh-scented soap or deodorant would smell like--the type my husband would enjoy. Sadly, this scent is not me.

It's so funny what chemistry will do to a scent! I get no cake at all from Eat Me. In the imp, it smelled like fruity jelly beans and vanilla. But from application to drydown, I get a fruity, slightly sharp currant jam. I can see (er, smell) how tart compared Eat Me to Lampades.
