    Tempest

I can't tolerate ozones for long (sea of glass is pretty light but even it get a little persistent sometimes) but I sniffed my imps of Sea of Glass and Tempest and they smell like the same type of ozone. Only sea of glass is a little more tempered & slowbuilding whereas Tempest is more crisp right off the bat. So depending on what you're looking for in an ozone/marine scent, you might want to look into one or the other.

    Serpent's Kiss

This is one of my favorite Dragon's Blood blends (though nothing outranks Dragon's Milk ) and it is more serpent than dragon. initially: The vetivert is strong! The minute I open the imp I get the beautiful spicy resin of dragon's blood, and a whiplash of vetivert that smells slithery, green, and above all, venomous! It's actually a little too strong for me initially (and I tolerate vetivert better than most). drydown: after about 15 minutes, the vetivert mellows down into perfect harmony with the dragon's blood. Now the earlier slithery green is weaving in and out of sight, which I like much better. Dragon's blood changes v. little on me and sweetens over time, so by the end of the day I have a light dragon's blood and the vetivert is mostly faded. A wonderful scent when one is feeling a bit of a pythoness oneself.

    Silk Road

I guess I shoud have read more reviews, but I was expecting something much spicier (something, it turned out, more like Morocco) when I tried this imp. first application: right off it's a very light, lemony scent. But not a sharp citrus, more of a mellow lemon balm with a light herbal depth. drydown: the lemon balm mellows some more, and a light tea scent as well as the spices become more apparent. The spices are not so strong - no more spice than say a carnation (though I don't smell any florals in here) A few hours later I can't smell it anymore. It's not bad, I'll definately keep the imp. but it veers a little close to the Zephyr school of scents that are just too light to do anything for me (spicy/resinous girl).

    Fenris Wolf

Funny thing: the first time I smelled Fenris Wolf all I could think of was my beloved, long-lost Mercury. Which is not to say that it smells like Mercury - it's much more musky and feral. But the rosewood (I think) is definately an achy memory of my lovely. It starts wet a little sombre thanks to the rosewood. The amber must be really well-blended because I don't get the golden "bounce" that lingers in something like say Brisingamen or Florence. In fact, aside from helping it to mellow beautifully, I don't smell the amber at all. Once it dries, the musk starts working and doesn't stop. It just gets more and more warm and terribly sexy. It never becomes overwhelming, but mellows it into an incredibly predatory scent. *love*!

    Butch yet not manly scents?

I second Dragon's Heart, but I think somewhere along those lines and maybe even more so is Fenris Wolf. I don't know if others would categorize it as masculine, but when I wear it I feel a little aggressive and feral. Definately a scent for those of either gender who wanno be on top.

    Dana O'Shee

In bottle: honey and the faintest hint of something spicey (whatever is used for the "wheat" component?) On me: The loveliest elixir ever! I don't think I've gone this nutty over a scent since Alice. The honey makes it pretty foody initially, but once it dries it just provides a light, sweet contrast to the creaminess of milk. Not at all an overwhelming scent - just a light, persistant sweetness. My most-worn bottle. edited for overly-enthusiastic typos.

    Sacred Whore of Babylon

Oddly enough, my imp smells exactly the same on me as in the bottle. There's a sweet floral in there, but it's mostly predominated by an intense, incensey spice. Smells like garlanded altars burning smokey tributes. I've a fondness for incense, musk, amber and generally heavier scents, but Sacred Whore is the grandmother of them all. It absolutely smells of someone who should be anointed on a dais, and while I love and am keeping my imp, I can't for the life of me imagine a situation I'd be entirely comfortable wearing it. Wonderful and intimidating!

    Sea of Glass

Sea of Glass is amazing. Such a unique, quietyly strong scent, though I can't seem to make heads or tails of what I'm smelling. This is aquatic, but not a sharp seabreeze aquatic. More recollections of a seaside summer, rather than standing by the ocean if that makes any sense Also getting something like an incredibly pure white floral (but not - white florals always go sharp on headachey on me) - maybe a fresh white carnation? If the waters of Lethe (laden with lost memories) smelled of anything, they would smell like this. A perfect summer scent.

    Haunted

Haunted is simple but wonderful. I love both amber and musk (most of my favorite lab scents use them as a base). They are essential for making a scent smell like me. This goes on a *perfect* soft musk sweetened by the amber - it remains true through drydown, while deepeneing a little (but never to the point of being strong or "perfumey"). I love this - i recall reviewers using the term "skin but better" to describe their favorite scents and this is absolutely that for me - not a mood scent - just clean and feminine.

    Red Devil

When I got my first imp set, Red Devil definately wasn't my favorite. It was not instantly beautiful and accessible as The Hesperides, Alice or Snake Oil (my favorites from that set). Fresh from the bottle, it definately had the sharp tang of hot metal to it...probably the dragon's blood/pepper combo. I was so disturbed I rinsed it off instantly and didn't try it again for months. Then I was sorting my swap/keep imps when I decided to dab on a bit just to be sure. Boy am I glad I did. After the spiciness of the first minute or so, it drys down to this glorious floral blend. Like a stately flower (the rose?), peppered. I find it an incredibly sexy smell when I am feeling fiestier (vs. Snake Oil, when I want something v. sweet and lush instead). Makes me want to wrap myself in red ribbons. I am so glad the Lab tossed this extra in with my order and that I gave it a second chance. I am just getting used to how BPAL blends can surprise me.

When your favorite GC blends are discontinued

(preface: I've read in the Eidolon reviews that there are two versions of the scent...an earlier one that is tinted like Snake Oil, and a paler version. This is regarding the paler version) I've done some searches, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of discussion of Eidolon. I got am imp of this last fall and am pretty heartbroken to find this scent discontinued. It was an incredibly soothing scent for me. (Evokes: Thing of power in an abandoned clearing, overgrown with green. Of immense importance but destined to be dormant for a few more ages. That feeling of reassurance and continuity). I am pretty sad...my favorite BPAL scents are those that bring with them an Elysian place. Eidolon did this for me (as does the Hesperides, which I've ordered a 10ml of - will not make the same mistake twice ) Any suggestions for an Eidolon-like scent would be hugely appreciated.
