More Extra Questions

***8/27*** If you have a garden/planter box, what do you grow? Neither. I keep trying to do the herbs on the kitchen window thing, but have been made of complete FAIL so far.   What incense scents do you prefer? I think I may have mentioned on my Q that one of my goals in life is to get my house to smell like a head shop. I burn lots of frankincense, myrhh, sandalwood, patchouli, nag champa, etc. My favorite brand (from what I've tried so far) is Incense from India, but I'm up for being enabled to other brands.   Do you decorate for Halloween? What sort of decorations? Dress up for Halloween? Oh hell's bells yes. Kinda cute but creepily kooky. No gore please.   Bats, cats, skeletons, monsters, vampires, witches or what other ghoulies do you prefer? All of the above. No green warty ugly witches please.   Do you like horror flicks? I like the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, but others, not so much really.   Who here prefers stylus and ink to ballpoint? Anyone invested time and effort into calligraphy or proper Victorian writing? Not I said the dog. Not I said the cat.   What about stationery? Need some? What styles do you like? Currently overstocked. I really need to get back to the mail thread and use a bunch up!   ***8/28*** Crossword puzzles? Other pencil puzzles? no   Favorite artist? Victoria Frances   Favorite poet? Majored in lit. Can't possibly pick one.   Halloween. Do you like it kooky or creepy? Tim Burtonish   Reserved or Raunchy? Depends on the situation. I prefer the Switch Witch thread a bit raunchy.   Earth, Wind, Fire or Water? I'm a very airy Aquarius.   Tea or Coffee in the morning? Mountain Dew, please and thank you.   Fruity snacks or chocolate? Both, but not together.   Would you accept art? Of course I haven't gotten time to redo my Etsy wishlist yet, but a browse through my favorites would yield ideas about my taste, as would the Halloween Somerset Studios.   Antiques or Brand New? either   What keywords do you use when searching for items for yourself on Etsy? Hmmm... haven't had much browsing time lately, but usually either "goth" or "black" and then a noun   Are there any of y'all who are allergic/sensitive to having natural fibers on your skin? Wool makes me itch like crazy, and I assume that other fibers that commonly make others itch would be bad news as well.   What was your favorite ghost/scary/campfire story growing up? ???   Bugs? Do you like 'em or not? I like butterflies and dragonflies. I will allow ladybugs to crawl on me. Otherwise --   i haz no imp storage. do you? I think instead of getting more imp storage, I need to weed out the imps.

Some more from today...

My questionnaire is chock-a-block with ideas for Witching me on the cheap, and without sending "stuff for stuff's sake". And I just came up with another one--make me a Pandora, Finetune, or Last.fm station you think I might like! What manner of affordable Witchery might you covet? I'm not doing this for the expensive gifties - I have to keep my witching at a reasonable cost and I would hope that who ever gets me feels the same. Hand made stuff rocks. The food ideas rock. Gently used stuff like books, smellies, bath stuff etc (anything that I'd feel cool about swapping for example) is excellent. Just don't break the bank because you feel like you're supposed to - that's not why we're here - it really is the thought that counts!   Oh and as an aside - Canadians (and I suspect other internationals) can't use Pandora. Not sure about Finetune. Last.fm is fine.   Does your cell phone have a place to attach charms? I don't think my phone has the thingie to hang the charm from. Base model and all that

Halloweenie SW Questions

Questions from the Halloweenie 2008 SW Round:   How do you feel about copies of music or dvd's that your witch might have that you might enjoy? Not just mixes, but whole copies? I am completely fine with it. If I like something I try to buy it (we own tons of CDs and DVDs), but I love hearing new music or finding new things to watch.   Say, witches, I have a question about birthdays. do you expect/rely on other people to plans birthday outings and activities? I would like to rely on other people, but usually I have to do the planning otherwise things don't happen.   Tarts? Yes/no? I do love tarts, although I don't burn them as much as I should (I actually have an electric burner and a ton of tarts to use though, so I don't need more)- I always have trouble getting the old tart out too. I do love scented candles though.   I'm wondering if my witchee would like to try these types of things (like the caramel with sea salts or chocolates with chilis/bacon/salt etc.)? Well, I have caramels so infrequently (since they have to be specially made with no milk- BTW- whoever posted that caramel recipe with coconut milk is amazing- I've had them with rice or soy milk, but I'm thinking they'd be way better with coconut milk- no aftertaste) that I think I'd just prefer the normal kind. Weird chocolate? Meh. Weird candy sounds cool though.   And finally, I have a question to throw into the general question bank (hopefully my Witchee answers!): What think you about receiving tea accessories and/or miscellany (like mugs, cups, saucers, strainers/filters, honey, natural sweeteners [like stevia])?   Well, I have lots of honey and stevia and whatnot, so I don't need any of that, although I wouldn't mind a strainer (a friend of mine has one that just fits inside the cup (the strainer is mug shaped) and then you can just take it out. I have a lot of loose tea that I don't drink that often because it's a hassle (and tea balls are kind of annoying to me). What one (or two, if you really must) BPAL bottles are you most longing for? Well, Pumpkin King (stop laughing!), and then I'd have to say MB: Underpants (which I actually had a bottle of when it first came out but it went kind of plastic on me so I got rid of it- now that it's aged it's wonderful. I have a couple imps but I'd love to get an actual bottle of it again), and finally L'Autumno.   Ringtones? My default one is an instrumental clip from Past and Future Secret by Blind Guardian, but I have all sorts of different ringtones for the people in my phone, so I know who's calling.   Addams Family vs. Munsters? Adams Family   I wonder if my witchee would like a blanket type thing. Would you? I certainly wouldn't mind one. I don't know why I haven't gone out and bought one. We have two- one is from my idiot brother with some NASCAR guy on it (because my husband is into cars, although not NASCAR- I've used it as a picnic blanket for reading in the forest preserve and I always feel like people are going to judge me because of my trashy NASCAR blanket- no offense to anyone who likes NASCAR- we actually have a sweet friend who is originally from the south who is obsessed with it. NASCAR just has a trashy connotation for me). The other is one with snowmen on it (another gift) that has spilled candle wax all over it. So, I guess I could use one.   What is your favorite thing to do on a cool fall day? I'd say going for a walk in the forest to lament summer's passing. I do love fall, but I hate winter (I mean, I like for a little while, but a couple weeks after Christmas I can't wait for spring. I hate not being able to go outside without freezing to death. ugh).   If you drink coffee (and make it yourself) do you use a French Press, regular filter basket coffee maker, Espresso Machine, Percolator? We use a French press ever since our coffee maker broke. I do love the way coffee tastes with it, although I do miss drinking a whole pot in the morning. What movie soundtracks (or scores) do you love? I think the one I listen to the most is the Garden State soundtrack.   How do you scent yourself? Do you layer soaps, moisturizers, etc. or do you go straight to slathering your bod with BPAL? I do like scented soaps/moisturizers, but BPAL is my mainstay.   Do you/how do you scent your world? Candles, incense, diffusers, potpourri? Candles and incense the most.   Would you enjoy oil or vinegar flavored with herbs grown at home? Strange and exotic spices with recipes to try? Cookies made with carnation petals? Cookies with carnation petals sound interesting! What are your pet's names, and what are they named for? Romana for the second regeneration of Romana in old (Tom Baker) Doctor Who.   Who here is a complete, over the top, Alice In Wonderland fanatic? I like Alice in Wonderland, although I’m not obsessed.   Are you a Trekkie? If so, which series do you prefer? Do you have a favorite character? I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a “Trekkie”, although I have watched all the Star Trek incarnations with the exception of the original series (which I’ve watched some of, although I’m not overly crazy about it). I guess my favorites are TNG and Voyager. Captain Picard is probably my favorite character.   Do you have phobias? Spiders *shivers*   How do you like your mix CDs? Random? Stuff you know you'll like? I like them in mp3 format the most, and like all kinds (expect country and rap- ugh). Would you rather get food or jewelry? jewelry Do you like children's toys, such as jacks, those little things you tilt around to get the ball in the right hold (wtf are those called?), the aforementioned caplet dinosaurs, cap guns, etc?: Yes, but I have too much crap in my house. English candy/tea/marmite or other stuff that you love and can't easily get outside of England? Sure! I love things from other countries! Do you like making up your SW packages around a theme, or prefer to mix it all up? I haven’t done a theme (yet).   What's the scariest thing that's ever happened to you? Well, I almost died in a car accident when I was 17, so I’d have to say that.   What is everyone's favorite Halloween song?! I don’t think I have one.   How many of mah fellow witchies play video games? Platform? Do you like used games? No video games for me.   What kind of music (genres, please) do you like? Female singer/songwriters, piano driven music, trip hop. Have any of you ever received a book from a Witchy and loved it so much you ended up buying a copy for a later Witchee? I have gotten books I’ve loved and may gift them in the future…   What kinds of eye shadows do we all like? I don’t wear much, although I’m not against it. Do you like lip balm? If so, do you like tinted, glossy, sparkly, pearly or just plain lip balm? I like every kind of lip balm. Are you active on any other boards/forums? If so please specify where and your username there. I’ve recently joined The Long Hair Community, and am Arylkin there and everywhere. I’m the only Arylkin too, so if you google Arylkin and a million things come up, they’re all me.   Robots versus zombies: who wins? I would think Robots, since the Zombie’s couldn’t really hurt them or eat their brains. Where are a few of your favorite places? Forests and lakes in Wisconsin that we go to on vacation and Marco Island, where we had our honeymoon.   Are you a soap addict? Anything you like to avoid in soaps (goat's milk, lye, dyes, etc...) or any particular scents you like or brands you want to try? I am a soap addict, but avoid goat’s milk.   Do you like kilts and would you wear one? I like them, but I don’t know if I’d wear one.   What's your favorite book? I have so many I love. Including The Anne of Green Gables Books by LM Montgomery (especially Rilla of Ingleside, but you have to read all the others first), These Is My Words by Nancy Turner, The Doomsday Book by Connie Willis, Afton of Margate Castle by Angela Hunt, The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery Gracelin O'Malley by Ann Moore, Perelandra by CS Lewis, Summers at Castle Auburn by Sharon Shinn, Stardust by Neil Gaiman, the Narnia Books, and many others. What size socks do you wear? How about hat size? Socks- average? I don’t know what my hat size is. Do you read comics? Which ones do you love and which can't you stand? I don’t, although I’ve been meaning to try and read some- not anime though.   By nature are you a morning lark or a night owl? I’d say more of a night owl. I do like early morning, but I hate getting up.   What's your favorite type of music to hear live, rather than recorded? Classical probably.   What is your favorite autumnal-seasonal drink? Hot cider. Crossword puzzles? Other pencil puzzles? No   Favorite artist? I do like John William Waterhouse and Mucha, and many others.   Favorite poet? I’m not sure I have one Halloween. Do you like it kooky or creepy? Probably kooky   Reserved or Raunchy? More reserved than raunchy   Earth, Wind, Fire or Water? Water   Tea or Coffee in the morning? Usually coffee in the morning, tea at night.   Fruity snacks or chocolate? Fruity   Would you accept art? Yes   Antiques or Brand New? Wild Men of Jezirat al Tennyn

So today I seem to be revisiting bottles (of hubby's ) that haven't been opened in a looong time. I did not have high hopes because I remember this being to masculine, but what the heck, I have to shower anyways. LOL   Oh wow, I was wrong. On me this is straight up spicy dark vanilla with a touch of earthiness. It's gorgeous. I am so happy we kept the bottle and I can't wait to see how it is on hubby.

a repost from "Quiz Me"

Some facts about myself:     I am addicted to lip balm and if I am out or on the way to somewhere and realize I don’t have any with me I kind of freak out.   I love Tori Amos’ music.   I am ovo-vegetarian, although sometimes eggs gross me out.   I love my husband and think he’s awesome.   I work at a health food store and get irritated when people disparage vitamins and herbs.   I love books, especially good historical fiction (not cheesy romance historical fiction) and books about mental illness.   I prefer to read books from female writers.   I buy too many books and have many on my shelf that I haven’t gotten around to reading.   I dislike children until they’re around jr. high age, especially little boys and babies.   I am a Christian, but I detest hypocritical, judgmental, legalistic Christians who are jerks/look down on everyone.   The Catholic Church makes me insane- I think they take advantage of people and it makes me crazy.   I work with the girls in our church’s high school youth group and am crazy about them.   I love water and dream of having a house right on the ocean (or a lake would do).   I don’t have many friends, or a “best friend”, but would love to have one.   I am afraid of aliens (the gray ones with big eyes) and ghosts (although I don’t really think either exist- I guess I’m not sure about the aliens).   I can’t watch scary movies and am afraid of blood coming out of the sink.   I’m kind of germaphobe- not my own germs, but other people’s.   I don’t have a good relationship with my parents and can’t really relate to them, although I care about them a lot.   I’m adopted, but I hate when people act like it’s a big deal or say idiot things like, “Oh! So and so’s adopted too!) like we should be BFF because we’re both adopted or something.   I am blind without my glasses.   I’m deathly afraid of spiders and sometimes imagine that they’re on me. (Wow, this list is making me seem crazy)   The idea of people abusing animals makes me really, really upset.   I watch too much TV and love all things Joss Whedon.   I dropped out of high school my senior year because of big things going on in my life, but later got my GED.   I never went to college because I didn’t know what I wanted to do (and don’t really like working).   I HATE when people define others by what job they have or if they went to college, etc.   I waste far too much time on the computer.   I love BPAL.

Switch Witch Questions from former rounds- Summer 2008 and Winter 2007

Some random questions answered from the summer round:   Leather? The only leather I wear is for my shoes (and I feel kind of bad/hypocritical about it, but there isn't really much selection for vegan shoes). I have to wear shoes with good arch support too, so that narrows the field even more. I did finally find some good vegan sandals from Earth that are really comfortable, so that makes me glad... Do you like hair things? I do!   Disney? No.   Plants: I love plants, but I am terrible at watering them. My house is actually plantless right now, since they were all dying/dead and I had to give them a mass funeral...   Do you wear nail varnish? Yes, but more often on my toes- I like having my nails painted, but can't do my right hand to save my life. Homebaked goodies? Sure, but I don't like coconut either (and no dairy please)   Insects: I don't mind insects at all (and actually I really like the more interesting ones), except for spiders, which I wish would vanish from the face of the earth. First concert? I went to a bunch of shows of boys I was dating in HS before I ever saw a "real" concert, but the first big show I ever went to was REM in '96 I think.   lip balm? I have a lip balm and lip gloss and lip stain obsession. It's ridiculous- if I'm out somewhere and I realize I don't have any lip balm in my pocket I kind of freak out... I guess it's almost how people are with cigarettes or something.   favorite books as a kid? Gosh- I read so much when I was little- I was always in those reading contests at the library. I loved The Velveteen Rabbit and Where the Sidewalk Ends, and then later The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler (I wanted to live in a museum SO badly after that book) and I think I read all the Babysitter's Club Books, and so many others. Do you still read any children's books? Well, to my sometime embarrassment, I still read YA books (even though I turned 30 this year- gasp!). I read the Twilight books for the first time last month and have kind of become a bit obsessed about them (lol)...   Phobias: Spiders. Oh my, I am terrified of them- it's really bad.... Hot beverages? Can I answer "all"? I LOVE tea and coffee and apple cider- what else is hot... I've recently been accumulating tea from Republic of Tea (I made us get it at the health food store I work at, so I could buy it at a discount)... Bath stuff: I like actual soaps more than shower gel, and a mixture of scrubby (as long as it's fine grain bits of scrubbiness) and smooth, although I guess I slightly lean towards liking smooth soaps a little more. I love lotion and have bottles of it everywhere- I only use bath oils in the winter, and never powder. Flavored hard candies: I LOVE hard candy- especially random candy store hard candies that I usually only get on vacation- root beer barrels, those cinnamon hard candies, coffee flavored ones...yum!   If I could live in another time: I don't know if I'd like to live permanently in another time, although I'd like to be able to time travel to several times/places (as long as I had lots of money- it almost seems like every time in the past seems romantic or wonderful, although most often it was only wonderful for a small minority, with the rest being slaves/servants/peasants- which I wouldn't want to be). I love the Anne of Green Gables books/movies, and it seems like such a simpler time, which would be nice (for awhile), I think living in the 20's during prohibition would be fun- going to speakeasys and the like, although I guess if I had to choose, I might say to live during the Civil Rights Movement- to be a part of that and make a difference would be really amazing. Ideally, I'd like to be someone like Kivrin in The Doomsday Book (without things going wrong though), where I could be sent to the past, having been inoculated against whatever diseases everyone died from, and where I could be pulled back out to go back to my own time).   Strangest dream you've ever had? I wouldn't say strangest, although it is probably one of the most vivid dreams I had- and it prompted me to get my bunnies: I had this bunny, and the two of us were on a long journey- we were going over mountains, crossing rivers, traversing the world- just the two of us- this bunny and me against the world! lol! It's kind of hilarious, but it really stuck with me, and so we got Romana.   Any mysteries in your family? Not anymore- just drama...lol. I'm adopted (and have since met my biological parents), but growing up I always wondered about them, and imagined they were famous, or royalty, or just exactly like me...   Daily websites:   -gmail -bpal.org -my LJ friends page to read the different community posts -accuweather- (I'm kind of OCD about having to know what the weather will be like) -shirt.woot.com- they have one (American Apparel) shirt on sale for $10 (including shipping) each day, so I usually check it in the morning to see if it's my style or not Do you like spicy/asian food? I do. Teen Crush-   Well, actually pre-teen (way preteen I think) was Joey from New Kids on the Block...   Then when I was a freshman I had a huge crush on Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon- I think I watched the No Rain video a thousand times because he was so gorgeous. What was your wedding song? Firehouse's Love of a Lifetime Shoe size- 9-9.5 or 39-40 narrow. Audiobooks- I love them, although I have a LOT of them, so my Witchie probably shouldn't send me any (not that I wouldn't want them, but because I may already have them). Alternative medicine? yes   Defend your position on Coke vs Pepsi- I don't drink them often, but when I have a choice, I choose Coke.   What gift do you want to give everyone in the world? Man, that's a hard question... hope maybe? Are you lactose-intolerant? no, but I don't do dairy   What do you find lucky? shooting stars     Beauty secret? Probably trying not to worry what other people think and to just please myself (not that I succeed in that all the time).       Some random questions from the Winter 2007 round: Any unusual hobbies?Meh, not really...   Fairies or gnomes? Gasp! I love them both- how could I ever choose? I guess I'm partial to gnome things however, because I'm kind of picky about the faeries I like- I don't like the sexy DDD cup faeries (I kind of think they're tacky *ducks*), and I hate the country Mary Engelbrite looking faeries too... Favorite book genres? Good historical fiction.   Video games? Meh. My husband is trying to convince me that we need a Wii, but the only games I really like to play are Mario Party (that must sound ridiculous, but it's true) and board game type games- Monopoly, etc.   Beer? I think my favorite right now is Red Stripe. I do like hard cider a lot too.   College? No. Things were crazy at that time in my life. Life was crazy, I was crazy, I'm lucky to be alive I guess... Girl Scouts? I actually loved girl scouts- we went camping and rambling through the forest all the time- it was awesome! Do you cook? Any cookbooks you want? I kind of hate cooking. I like eating (lol), so I see cooking as a means to an end.   Best concert: Nightwish with Tarja Turnen. It was their first concert in the US, and their last tour with their original singer. It was amazing, and I'm so glad we were able to go.

Switch Witch Questions - Halloweenie 2008

If so, is there anything you'd like to have for that? No   What is one item that you've wanted forever, could have afforded, but have never gotten and why (haven't you gotten it!)? "New Rock" boots... because there isn't any place local to try them on and their store in Las Vegas was closed the one time I went there. I could order them from Fashion Nation in Denver and have them shipped to me, try them on, ship back if they don't fit, etc. but that is so much work!! My boyfriend went that route so I just eye his enviously.   What Halloween scent are you most looking forward to? fearful pleasure   Tattoos! Do you have em? Do you want em? Whatcha got or getting? I like useful, edible, or scented plants. Ornamental, not so much. I always harvested and dried herbs, rose petals, etc. to use in my soap or for making scented pillows or other items.   What incense scents do you prefer? I used to burn all kinds of resin and stick incense but my boyfriend is allergic to just about everything so I no longer burn any. *weep*   Do you decorate for Halloween? What sort of decorations? I do try to decorate for Halloween -- I have mostly candle holders (black cat tealight holder, some tealight haunted houses and trees, spider web shades for tealight lamps, etc.) We always carve pumpkins. I like to get corn stalks, bales of straw, and do scarecrows in the yard if we are motivated. We have a coffin (real) that we put out in the front yard with an arm or something hanging out. Yes, we usually dress up and of course have to go out to the goth and fetish halloween nights.   Bats, cats, skeletons, monsters, vampires, witches or what other ghoulies do you prefer? Do you like horror flicks? Bats, skeletons, gargoyles, maybe some black cats. yes.   Who here prefers stylus and ink to ballpoint? I prefer natural fibers over synthetic.   What was your favorite ghost/scary/campfire story growing up? Don't think we had these. I went to a bible camp that sang non-scary songs around the campfire. And my parents didn't tell scary stories when we went camping (with a camper or to a cabin.) I feel so deprived.   Bugs? Do you like 'em or not? ick! bugs! they have their place -- outside.   i haz no imp storage. do you? I use ammo cases.   What would you tell yourself 6 months in the past about 2008 so far? Quit making the same mistakes over and over. And buy more Mead Moon, dang it.   If you had one minute of fame, what would you do/say in the spotlight? btdt a few times (usually with my horse). I prefer not to be in the spotlight. depends on the issue -- nowadays I'd probably defend pit bulls or something.   Robots versus zombies: who wins? Book stores, tea and coffee shops, chocolate shops, stonehenge, barns, feed stores, dog supply stores, snoqualmie falls, woods with lakes or rivers, the pacific ocean, rain forest on the olympic peninsula (see woods with lakes or rivers), leavenworth... And I really want to visit Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, etc.   Out of curiosity, all the fall babies who are celebrating their birthdays during the round - who are you, and when is your bday? Me me! September 12th.   What is one (only one) object that you collect, that totally goes against your personality or beliefs? Depression glass (and neodymium glass in general) doesn't really fit my personality but I collect it!! Tiffin Twilight, Heisey Alexandrite, Duncan Dawn, Canterbury Heatherbloom, Fosteria Wistera, etc.   Are you a soap addict? Anything you like to avoid in soaps (goat's milk, lye, dyes, etc...) or any particular scents you like or brands you want to try? Yes... but I have so much soap because I make my own. I prefer non-detergent soaps (ie, cold process hand made). Goat milk is good. Shea butter and cocoa butter are good. Olive oil based are good (but preferably milled two or three times or they are really really soft.)   Do you like kilts and would you wear one? Yes! I'm right by Utili-kilts! But I've never bought one for some reason. I would totally cross dress in a ulti-kilt.   What's your favorite book? I can't choose ONE... Harry Potter series or the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin.   What size socks do you wear? How about hat size? size 10? that is my shoe size. I don't wear hats anymore. Unless I'm in a horse show or wearing a knitted hat. Or I have some tweed "newsboy" sort of hats that I wear if my hair looks like crap and I'm in a hurry.   Do you read comics? Which ones do you love and which can't you stand? No, but I do read graphic novels. Sandman! Watchmen! I have a set of "Amethyst" that someone gave me, because my domain name for a long time (until I caved and sold it) was amethyst.com.   Symbols that are meaningful to me? To you or to me? To me: Ankh, wadjet (eye of horus), celtic knots (raven, epona, ferrets, dogs), claddagh...   By nature are you a morning lark or a night owl? night owl   What's your favorite type of music to hear live, rather than recorded? acoustic   What is your favorite autumnal-seasonal drink? mulled / spiced wine & mead, caramel apple cider   Do you knit/crochet? Do you need any supplies? Yes, more knitting than crocheting. Always.   What are your two favorite etsy shops? Let's say strangeling and meinoel (one of my friends) although I have quite a few "favorite sellers" on my list.   Are you active on any other boards/forums? If so please specify where and your username there. Yes. My user names are almost ALWAYS Twilight, Miss Twilight, or Twilight Eyes. I've been using that name since 1986. (Been online since 1984.) LJ - miss_twilight, ravelry - misstwilight, etsy - misstwilight, facebook - shari walker, myspace - shari walker (miss twilight screen name), *added* miss_twilight on librarything. Added my THINK GEEK wishlist too.   What is everyone's favorite Halloween song?! This is Halloween (NMBC)   How many of mah fellow witchies play video games? Platform? Do you like used games? Me! WII, XBOX 360, PC. Used games, yes! I like racing games and fantasy -- Zelda. I play Ultima Online. I still love DOS games (infocoms, nethack, etc.)   What kind of music (genres, please) do you like? Darkwave, industrial, gothic.   Have any of you ever received a book from a Witchy and loved it so much you ended up buying a copy for a later Witchee? mah first time.   What kinds of eye shadows do we all like? shimmery or sparkly! matte is boring. urban decay, mac, smashbox, bare minerals. anything with good lasting power that doesn't irritate my contacts.   Do you like lip balm? If so, do you like tinted, glossy, sparkly, pearly or just plain lip balm? Yes, I am addicted to lip balm. I prefer plain because I haven't found any sparkly or pearly lip gloss type things that doesn't get gummy or nasty -- or make my lips chapped. My favorites right now are the Burt's Bees honey and the clove. If I could FIND THEM FOR SALE locally, I'd get the Ayurvedic Lip Balm by Better Botanicals in Rose-Mint or Cardamom.   What are some of the SW gifts/finds from past rounds (or you can just name a gift in general that you found for someone if this is your first round!) that you are the most proud of in terms of your sleuthing skills? mah first time   And, secondly, what is something you've been searching for but just can't find? a type of green chili (in a jar) that we used to buy in Texas. I'll have to go home and grab the jar to get the brand name. They were sooo good on hot dogs and hamburgers.   Who here is a complete, over the top, Alice In Wonderland fanatic? Does me wanting to get a tattoo with Alice make me a fanatic? I have some cool AiW computer games too -- I should dig out my boxes from the shed and see if I can find them.   Are you a Trekkie? If so, which series do you prefer? Do you have a favorite character? Ugh, I loathe and detest Star Trek. Probably because my dad and brother forced me to watch it in the 70's and I was quite the sullen child when bombarded with things that I don't enjoy (yay Aspergers!)   Do you have phobias? Not especially... unless it involves things crawling on me. If I'm, for example, in a moving car and a spider leaps on me, I'll freak because I can't get away. If I can just brush it off me or move away from it, it's fine. But enclosed space with things crawling on me? No thank you.   How do you like your mix CDs? Random? Stuff you know you'll like? Stuff I know I'll like genre wise.   Would you rather get food or jewellery? I rarely wear jewelry so I would guess food. Unless it's a super cool anklet or bracelet or something.   Do you like children's toys, such as jacks, those little things you tilt around to get the ball in the right hold (wtf are those called?), the aforementioned caplet dinosaurs, cap guns, etc?: I shop at Archie McPhee. I have all the kiddie toys I could use and more.   English candy/tea/marmite or other stuff that you love and can't easily get outside of England? Some chocolate (we usually order it from England via web site, see chocolate thread) and I really used to love Cadbury's chocolate but the stuff here in the states is NASTY. My favorite - Flake and Fruit & Nut. And Carmello.   Fanfic as a gift* - yay or nay? Your fandom? Slash preferences?*well, a virtual gift obviously. You know what I mean. Sure! Harry Potter, Song of Ice and Fire. Slash preferences? Um, not a huge slash reader but have read some for amusement. Not sure of question.   Any beaders here? Need beading supplies? Negatory.   Do you like making up your SW packages around a theme, or prefer to mix it all up? No idea, mah first time.   Band-aids: do you like the fun and funky ones? Yes! As noted above, I shop at Archie McPhee so I get pirates, devil ducks, black cat, unicorns, etc. Yay! I almost wish I got cut more so I could wear them.   What's the scariest thing that's ever happened to you? Being almost run over by car full of people, then threatened with a switch blade by a pregnant girl, yelled and screamed at by said group of people, and then backhanded by big guy -- in broad daylight at Green Lake park in Seattle. They wanted my parking place but I wasn't leaving yet -- just letting my car cool off with the doors open. Let's just say that they all went to jail. And then they kept saying it was my fault because I was obviously racist and they shouldn't have come to a "white" area. *boggle* OH. Yeah. And I used to work for a bank. When I was at a branch installing some software for the manager, they were robbed. That was scary. Especially since the gun went off and someone fell to the floor - everyone thought they were shot. The guy was trying to zip the bag of money closed with the gun in his hand when the gun went off. After that he ran out the back door with money flying everywhere behind him. And then we were interviewed for hours and hours by the FBI. Good times.   How do people feel about receiving baked goods/kits to make said goods? Or other cooking items? I love baked goods but I don't eat splenda or other artificial sweeteners. I prefer organic when possible. And hopefully everyone uses sanitary cooking practices!!   Would you enjoy oil or vinegar flavored with herbs grown at home? Strange and exotic spices with recipes to try? Cookies made with carnation petals? It would depends on how the carnations were grown -- no pesticides!! But yeah, I love exotic spices and cool recipes. Oil and vinegar flavored with herbs is fun.   What are your pet's names, and what are they named for? Jake Blues should be obvious -- he just needs a brother named Elwood. Lela was already named when I adopted her and she knew her name, so no changing it. Howie was dropped off by the local ACO at the boyfriend's house and he howled for three days straight (and then lost his voice), so was dubbed How(l)ie.   How do you scent yourself? Do you layer soaps, moisturizers, etc. or do you go straight to slathering your bod with BPAL? I use aveda shampoo usually, which is all scented with essential oils in a blend ("pure-fume") - the blend depends on what shampoo you're using, or you can personalize one. Then I use scented shower gels (usually Lush) but I haven't noticed that they actually stay on my skin -- I can never smell them after I get out of the shower. I usually use a Lush powder (silky underwear or candy floss) OR a BPAL bath oil after the shower, depending on how I feel. Then depending on what I put on (oil or powder), I pick some scent to wear on my wrists and inside elbows. Sometimes neck. And I usually wear honey or vanilla scented hand lotion.. sometimes coconut.   Do you/how do you scent your world? Candles, incense, diffusers, potpourri? None of the above? I use candles, essential or perfume oil in my ultrasonic fountain, essential or perfume oil mixed with water on a burner (is this a diffuser?), sachets in drawers with clothes, bpal room and linen sprays, etc. I used to use incense but my boyfriend is allergic to smokey things.   BPAL is such a scent-ual experience. What are your other tactile, aural, or olfactory pleasures (I was going to say, "And let's keep it clean", but what's the use fun in that?!?) I like to curl up with soft fuzzy blankets/slippers, so I like my house and room to be somewhat on the cool side. Love to have my shoulders and neck massaged but only if using the right kind of oil, otherwise my skin chafes easily. Hmmm aural... most sounds bug me except white noise, unless I am listening to them purposely (like music I like or watching a movie.) If someone else is listening to music or watching a movie and I can't get away from it, I get very very angry and tense. Part of my asperger's syndrome I think. And I am very very scent oriented, so I almost always have to be scented or have a candle burning or my fountain on. But nasty scents make me throw up very easily. I love fresh cold air when you can smell snow or wood smoke, warm nights when the honey suckle or jasmine is drifting through the air...   If you drink coffee (and make it yourself) do you use a French Press, regular filter basket coffee maker, Espresso Machine, Percolator? I use a french press or a "Toddy" cold brew system. Unless I'm at work, in which case I use the espresso machine. Someday if I have a larger kitchen I'll get another espresso machine for home -- my previous boyfriend took mine when we parted ways.   What movie soundtracks (or scores) do you love? NMBC!!!! Tank Girl, Some Kind of Wonderful, V for Vendetta, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, almost anything by Danny Elfman, Wedding Singer, Hackers... that is all I can think of without looking at my mp3 files. (I thought of another one -- Pan's Labyrinth!)   what kind of indulgences do you really really want, but can't seem to make yourself buy? Maybe out of character, or a part of yourself you're busy denying? HALLOWEEN (and other holiday) DECORATIONS!! artwork, jewelry, rose bushes, herbs, a bicycle, a motorcycle, a smart car, new clothes & accessories, a new computer, wii fit, rock band, gargoyles, cd's, dvd's, un-necessary makeup, etc. I pretty much only buy dog food, dog treats, dog toys, BPAL, gas, food, and pay bills. And decant supplies, shipping supplies, etc.   My questionnaire is chock-a-block with ideas for Witching me on the cheap, and without sending "stuff for stuff's sake". And I just came up with another one--make me a Pandora, Finetune, or Last.fm station you think I might like! What manner of affordable Witchery might you covet? I have no idea what Pandora, Finetune or Last.fm are. If I'm going to listen to music online, I usually either remote into my home computer and listen from there or I listen to one of my friend's radio stations (www.d23radio.com or the like.) I have a hard time being enabled with new music. Affordable witchery -- I like all sorts of hand made things, notes, post cards, e-mail, links, whatever. I'm easy.   Does your cell phone have a place to attach charms? No, I have an iPhone.     What is your favorite art movement and/or style? ie impressionist, surrealist, art nouveau, etc. not really into art enough to know the different movements or styles off the top of my head.   Do you have a case for your mp3 player/digital camera? If you would want one, what size is your digital device? yes, I have cases.   For tea drinkers, do you bag it or prefer loose I like both! I prefer bags for ease of clean up but fresh loose tea in an air tight container is less likely to be stale.   Does the weather change where you are, as in, does it get cold in the winter? Anyone need homegrown scarves, hats, mittens, etc? I'm a knitter and know way way too many knitters who are always giving me things, so I'm quite covered (literally) with scarves, hats, mittens, etc. The only thing I really want that no one has made me yet is a Kitty hat. (knitted hat with kitty ears.)   Who are your forum buddies? People you know well enough online or IRL to help your Witch pick out stuff for you? Pixiepetal on the forums (she is a very quiet lurker) lives with me and we've known each other since high school (so for over 20 years now, dang we're old.) She should have an inkling of what I like.   If you could bring back any TV show from cancellation what would it be? Don't watch TV. I would kill it all. Well, ok, maybe I would bring back Red Dwarf or Twin Peaks. I was unhappy with the Twin Peaks ending.   I wonder if my witchee would like a blanket type thing. Would you? Blanket type thing? I <heart> NMBC blankies. And any blanket that is soft and fuzzy.   What's your favorite "I know it's bad for me but I can't help myself" treat? Chocolate or sugar in general.   Very important question: Are you planning on buying anything off your BPAL and/or other wishlists during the round? I think I am planning on getting lunacies, halloweenies, and carnavals before they are gone.   Do you wear a watch? If so, what kind/style? No. I like time pieces that clip onto things but otherwise I have a computer or a phone, I don't really need a watch attached to me as well. Plus I'm allergic to all sorts of metal.   How do you feel about having a donation made in your name to something? If you like that idea, what types of organizations/groups would you want the donation to go to? Any animal organization (preferably a bully breed rescue) that is a NON KILL SHELTER (humane society is a kill shelter) and something not affiliated in any way with PETA (they want to exterminate pit bulls specificially and companion animals in general.) So something like BAD RAP or PBRC would be fantastic.   What's your favorite animal? mythical or?? Unicorns for mythical, and a toss up between horses (friesians)/ferrets/pit bulls/dolphins for non.   What one (or two, if you really must) BPAL bottles are you most longing for? Underpants, Pumpkin King   If you could have dinner/drinks/coffee with any 3 living people that are not your family/friends already, who would they be-? I'm pretty anti-social with high social anxiety. I would rather not be in a situation where food was involved with people I don't know, let alone half of the people I know. Drinks or coffee might be ok because alcohol might relax me a bit and coffee can be short and quick (think god for 2-4oz cups.) That being said... Neil Gaiman, Emma Thompson, Martin Gore.   If you have pets, is there a SPECIFIC toy they like to play with; brand and size? Is there a treat/cookie they eat? What brand and size? Jake and Lela both like Jolly Ball brand Romp & Roll balls, large size. (Ball with a rope through the middle.) Lela likes Planet Dog orbee balls (tennis ball sized.) For cookies, they eat Plato Smart Dog Treats in salmon or duck. For training I do Simon and Huey tiny training treats. I used to do garlic and honey but I don't think they make those anymore. They love their Bully Sticks (natural dried beef tendon, not really a "brand" associated with them.) My dogs can't have a lot of wheat, corn, grains, etc.   What's your ringtone? Precious by Depeche Mode   Just to throw a silly question out there...Munsters or Addams Family, y'all? Addams Family   What think you about receiving tea accessories and/or miscellany (like mugs, cups, saucers, strainers/filters, honey, natural sweeteners [like stevia])? I collect Starbucks City Mugs (20 oz) but otherwise have enough mugs, strainers, filters, etc. I can never have enough honey though -- I get it locally by the gallon. I think I have two gallons right now... but my boyfriend still buys me more when he has to drive across the state.   How do you feel about copies of music or dvd's that your witch might have that you might enjoy? Not just mixes, but whole copies? Archival copies are wonderful.   Say, witches, I have a question about birthdays. do you expect/rely on other people to plans birthday outings and activities? No, I'm the one who does all of the planning in my relationship it seems.   Tarts? Yes/no? I have a partylite aroma-melts burner. If that burns tarts too, sure.   I'm wondering if my witchee would like to try these types of things (like the caramel with sea salts or chocolates with chilis/bacon/salt etc.)? I have probably tried most of them! Fran's Sea Salt caramels are the best, imo. Boehm's does a good chili pepper/chocolate. Vosges for chili pepper hot cocoa and bacon/chocolate bars (in the shape of flying pigs even.)   How do y'all feel about honey and maple? And different flavored honey, not just the standard kind? Honey and... maple? Um. I like real honey and real maple. So I would guess it would be ok? I love all types of honey. Creamed honey goes wonderfully on sandwiches, although I prefer it not to be "flavored" (no espresso, strawberry, etc.) -- the different pollens are fine of course. I prefer darker honey, but not black. Black is good to cook with, but I have a huge container of it right now. My least favorites are probably clover or alfalfa, just because they are so common around here. Wormwood isn't bad.   What is your favorite thing to do on a cool fall day? Horseback riding or geocaching with the dogs and then curl up by the fire with a good book, some tea, and the snuggly dogs. (the latter is my favorite thing to do just about anytime. although sometimes it's the fan instead of a fire.)   Who likes pirates? My boyfriend's name is Roger. Back in the day (15 years ago?) he drove a monster truck called the Pirate Pete. Our boat is named "The Jolly Roger". Yes, we like pirates.   What are your feelings about Dia De Los Muertos? I'm from the Pac NW and haven't ever really celebrated it and I know next to nothing about it.   What do you think about the Nightmare Before Christmas? If you have read the rest of my questions you will know that I LOVE it.   Do you play a musical instrument? Does Guitar Hero count?! I have played the flute and the violin. And was in chorus for many years. I've always wanted to play the piano but never had lessons. I taught myself guitar a few years back but then the person who gave me the guitar wanted it back.   What do you think of Irrelevant Disturbing and Surreal Crawdad Dream? Love it? Hate it? Kicking yourself for not getting a bottle? It's ok, I neither love nor hate it. I bought two bottles and traded one away for some inquisition stuff.   If candy is sent, would you prefer small amounts to a Halloween sized bag? It depends on the candy! A whole bag of vanilla tootsie rolls? sure! A whole bag of hard candy mixture? meh.   Do you like notes in your soaps or bath stuff that you don't like in your perfumes? If so which? Hm, not that I can think of.   Do you like floral soaps or bath stuff? If so, what florals work and what don't? I really like rose soap and buttercream (but it has to be a good genuine rose - synthetic stuff not so much.) Flying fox works for me well too (jasmine, ylang, honey?), various lush bath bombs that I'm sure have florals but I can't think of any off the top of my head. Right now I have some triple milled french lavender soap out.   What's in your Netflix or Blockbuster queue, do you want any new Netflix/Blockbuster friends, if so how do we find you on there? I don't do either Netflix or Blockbuster. I don't have a lot of time to watch movies or tv... when I do rent one, they're only $1 / night at work or the grocery store. When I DID do Netflix and Blockbuster trials, they just didn't have enough movies on theirs lists that I found interesting (that I didn't already own.)   Would you enjoy art based on original Graveyard photography? HECK YEAH. (See Etsy favorites.)   What other perfume companies (besides bpal) have you been curious about? NOOOOOO no enabling!!! I get possets and cobalt blends frimps all the time in swaps and I pretty much pass them on immediately... I am AFRAID! AFRAID I TELL YOU. I did get an ebay lot with some CB, Possets, and Arcana (with a bunch of BPAL of course). I really like the Arcana one. And I'm kind of curious about "the girls love vanilla" (is that possets? I can't even remember because I run screaming -- I don't have any more veins!!)   Stance on Joss Whedon and his enterprises? I enjoyed Firefly. I watched it all in one (or two or three) sitting(s) from my friend's dvds. I think I missed a few episodes because of passing out. I may someday make a Jayne hat. I didn't watch any of his other shows.   Has anyone tried ice wine before? Do/did they enjoy it? I *love* Ice Wine and Tawny Port.   Does anyone here do anything with grave rubbings? The only time I've done grave rubbings have been for scavenger hunts. (Bruce & Brandon Lee and Jimi Hendrix are all close to me.)   Legwarmers? Armwarmers? I wear wrist warmers!   What makes everyone stand out from the Switch Witch herd? This is my first round, so I am not sure?   If you are into the original Nintendo system, what 3 games would you want that you don't have? I never had the original nintendo. I had the original atari 2600 (and the 400 and 800, which is when I started programming, before we got the 8088 pc.) Now I have a WII and an XBOX 360. And a Super Nintendo and SN64. I always want more Zelda games.   What is your favorite category of the GC? Neil Gaiman, Stardust.   How do you feel about Hello Kitty? I like the skeletal hello kitty look-a-like... I prefer gothy things really. Like Lenore the little dead girl. And Emily the Strange.     Do you like Mystery Science Theater 3000? Have you tried out (and if not, would you be interested in doing so) its weird little brother, RiffTrax? I watched MST3k every once in a while. Not a big TV fan. Not really interested in weird little brothers....   What will you like from Singapore? Candies? Food? Asian crafts/toys? Starbucks Bears!! From all over the world for that matter.   What is everyone's "luck" item? My dogs. Especially Jake. Too bad he isn't lucky for HIMSELF! (Torn CCL on both back legs, poor guy. Now he has metal plates and is BIONIC!)   Do you like art deco/nouveau - style prints? Um. I'm a comp sci major, not an art major. All this talk of styles is not within my personal dictionary.   What is one thing that, if you received it in the middle of all the hubbub, would make you smile and take your mind off of all you have to do for a bit? A smile from my boyfriend.   What would a perfume based on you small like? Vanilla, patchouli, sandalwood, lavender, and teeny bit of rose and clove.   Who here likes Wizard of Oz things? Not I. Although I would like to have the movie on dvd. I used to love it when I was a kid -- I am told tales of how I wanted to change my name to Dorothy. *shudder* I also enjoyed Wicked and Son of a Witch. I never did read all of the original W of O books but would like to someday. You can see from my library thing that I am collecting all of the children's books that my parents didn't have the money to purchase for me.   Do you often drink take away coffee in paper mugs? Actually, no. I make free espresso drinks (or french press, or toddy) at work, and I use my personal ceramic mugs. Sometimes I'll make a press or toddy at home but usually at home I just drink tea. I have lots of 16 & 20oz "to-go" travel mugs and one of the starbuck's grande sized ice drink travellers (clear, double walls, lid, straw) for days off. I also have seasonal mugs, both ceramic and travel. I'm about to get out of all of the halloween mugs.   Blood Moon update: I am ordering Blood Moon and I already ordered two each of the forum only scents. I'm ordering at least one each of the new MVJBA's for the Ravelry group.   How do you decide what to put in which package for your Witchee or how many packages to send? I am new -- so I am hoping to learn!!   If you were my witchee, would you be terribly offended if I sent you a box containing project "experiments" or random miscellaneous pretty bits of brainstorming that I thought you might like/wear? Offended?? Not at all!!!   How do you avoid popping an item for yourself into an order you're placing for your witchie? What??? Self restraint?? What is that??   Underpants? Do you like them? What's your style? Size? Um, Yes? But I don't think I would feel comfortable having people other than my boyfriend give me underwear.   What is your favorite? What tea would you love to try but haven't because of price or difficulty to get? One of my favorite teas is the Aveda tea. It's so spendy that I don't get it very often (I'm out right now.) My staple is just orange pekoe with honey.   BPTP Room Sprays...your thoughts? YUM!   Would you like to receive baked goods from your Witch? And if so, are there things you WOULDN'T like? mmmmmmm baked goods!!! I don't like things with nuts in them.   How does everyone feel about really green gifties? I was thinking of giving my witchee some of my handy-dandy "paper" towels (hand-sized, washable muslin squares--kinda like ultra-cheapo cloth napkins) in a kitchen-friendly decorative box, but I didn't want to seem preachy ("Stop using paper towels, you environment destroyer!"). Would y'all use something like that? I'm one of *those* people that shops at co-ops and whole foods. So yes, I would probably use those. I also knit my own dish clothes and use those instead of paper towels.   What craft (or crafts) have you been wanting to try but have no idea where to start? I have all of the items to get started on paper making ... screens, clamps, trays, towels, food processor, herbs, scents, colors, books... but I've never gotten off my butt and actually DONE it. I also have almost everything to get started with Stained Glass (patterns, glass, cutter ... just need the soldering iron and a workshop!!)   Would you appreciate some tunes in future packages? And if so, do you care if you get any CDs or mp3s you might have all ready? Or would you be able to find a way to post a list of things you're (a) looking for, or ( b ) all ready have? I have over 500 gigs of mp3 files. *gulp* I used to work in the music business and have thousands of cds that I ripped. Most of my newer stuff is mp3 only though. So, I don't know - tunes, not so good. I am overloaded in tunes. What I *need* is to be able to hook my ipod to my car stereo.   Polish goodies! Who wants them? Baked goods, candies, kielbasa, pirogies, magazines, you name it? I've never had polish candies. I love kielbasa! Never had pirogies -- are they like piroshky? I love the local piroshky (salmon, om nom nom) and borsht.   About incense: do you like sticks or lose incense? Have you got one of those devices to burn lose incense over a bit of charcoal? I have tons of stick, cone, spiral, and loose incense, as well as a sand bowl and self activated charcoal to burn loose incense and resins on... but I don't ever burn incense anymore because I have slight asthma and my boyfriend is allergic to just about everything under the sun. And now that summer is over, I won't be hanging around outside burning it either. What I use now as my favorite is an ultrasonic fountain/mist maker with essential oils in the water. The boy isn't allergic to most high quality EO's if they are not floral. (and the picture is NOT the one I have, but it IS the one I want!)   What's everyone's favorite fairytale and what are your favorite versions of it? Ooh Ooh. I love retold fairy tales. It would be REALLY hard to pick out my favorites. I shouldn't even have to mention Neil Gaiman because I think everyone on here knows about him by now. Stephen Brust's "The Sun, the Moon, and the Stars" is a sort of retelling of a Hungarian traditional fairy story. "Juniper, Gentian, and Rosemary" by Pamela Dean is a retelling of a traditional Scottish ballad. Tam-Lin by Pamela Dean is excellent too, and of course "Snow White and Rose Red" by Patricia Wrede. One of the most haunting, I think, is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty called "Briar Rose" by Jane Yolen. Gregory Maguire's "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" (Cinderella), "Mirror Mirror" (Snow White), "Wicked" (Wizard of Oz.. ok not a fairy tale but close). I love Robin McKinley's "Deerskin" (Donkeyskin), "Spindle's End" (Sleeping Beauty), "Rose Daughter" (Beauty and the Beast), "Beauty" (Beauty and the Beast)... and of course I have the erotic "Claiming of Sleeping Beauty" series by Anne Rice (writing as A. N. Roquelaure) as well as tons of others. Sadly most of my books are in storage so they don't show up on my LibraryThing. Let's just say that when my library was together, I had a few bookshelves dedicated to fairy tales and a few more to "The Matter of Britian" (Arthurian lore.) And then all of my Cyberpunk, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and a small smattering of graphic novels (mostly Neil) as well as a teeny bit of "horror".   So how many imps/decants is officially 'you have gone overboard and your Witchee is going to expire from scent overload'? What? Overboard? Overload? Is that possible?   Who needs a recipe box? not me. I store recipes on the computer *or* on 8x10 in my binder with clear coated pages to slip the paper into to protect it from splashes and spills. (I is messy.) Or I use books. Not that I cook much right now since we moved into a MIL basement apartment with no counters in the kitchen and therefore hardly any working space to cook. I usually end up balancing things on the sink rim and they inevitably fall on the floor or into the sink and I curse and stomp up and down and give up. But the dogs are happy.   ANYONE ELSE want a home-made cookbook? I wouldn't say no! It would be kind of fun to have everyone submit their favorite recipes and do a BPAL or Switch Witch cookbook.   Favorite cartoons or animated films? NMBC (duh!), Ranma 1/2, James and the Giant Peach, Wallace and Gromit, Shrek, just about anything Pixar. The Tick! Earthworm Jim!   Your take on the election? In other words, would you enjoy campaign related gifts, or prefer to stay neutral? No politics or religion please.   Villians you sympathise with, or are interested in boinking? Mmm villians. I usually like female villains and am not really interested in boinking them or any other fictional characters (I guess I'm weird), but Alan Rickman is awesome in many roles, including Snape. I can sympathise with that character since I was always the outcast at school and spent all of my time with my horses instead of other people. Later figuring out that Aspergers exists helped some but it doesn't really make up for anything.   Your stance on the all important peanut butter issue: crunchy? creamy? allergic? chocolate? maple? go directly to nuttella, do not pass go? Creamy peanut butter, preferably roasted peanuts sweetened with honey. I go for the organic. I don't do corn syrup. I don't think I've had peanut butter with maple! I don't really like hazelnuts, so no nutella.   Who here likes to read historical fiction? If you do, what eras/people/countries intrigue you the most? I like Judith Tarr's historical fiction / fantasy. My fav is Arthurian though.   What sort of colors do you currently wear? Do you want to branch outside that? What would you like to try? I wear mostly black. I like wearing mostly black. Sometimes I wear white shirts. Sometimes I wear blue jeans. Sometimes I wear dark blue, dark purple, or pink. But mostly black.   Speaking of historical fiction, how does everyone feel about Sherlock Holmes? I've never actually read any. I have played a Sherlock Holmes infocom game....

Switchy Witch Questions!

Ok, I am in the new Switch Witch round! Soo... I will continuously update this with new questions as people are asking them, so the person stalking me can know all there can possibly be to know about moi:   ***9/25*** Favorite cartoons or animated films? i love Spongebob. An unhealthy amount of love, too. That show is HILARIOUS Your take on the election? In other words, would you enjoy campaign related gifts, or prefer to stay neutral? Um, no campaign gifts please Villians you sympathise with, or are interested in boinking? LOL!!! good question! I loved Stephen Dorff's bad vampire character in Blade. Him & his blonde vampire bitch were SO freaking hot! Your stance on the all important peanut butter issue: crunchy? creamy? allergic? chocolate? maple? go directly to nuttella, do not pass go? Umm... no thanks on any unless it is in a Reeses Who here likes to read historical fiction? If you do, what eras/people/countries intrigue you the most? No thank you! ***9/24*** What sort of colors do you currently wear? Do you want to branch outside that? What would you like to try? I cannot wear light colors because I am so pale, and not exactly thin. Aka: light colors are unflattering to me. Thank the universe for BLACK! LOL. I love dark blues, reds, purples, and black. And teal. LOVE teal. ***9/22*** About incense: do you like sticks or lose incense? Have you got one of those devices to burn lose incense over a bit of charcoal? No incense, please. Makes my eyes hurt What's everyone's favorite fairytale and what are your favorite versions of it? Ummm... I am not sure... So how many imps/decants is officially 'you have gone overboard and your Witchee is going to expire from scent overload'? Depends on the scents! Who needs a recipe box? I actually made myself one a few years back. I love it ANYONE ELSE want a home-made cookbook? That would be awesome! Although I'm not the best if recipes are super complicated. LOL. ***9/19*** How does everyone feel about really green gifties? I was thinking of giving my witchee some of my handy-dandy "paper" towels (hand-sized, washable muslin squares--kinda like ultra-cheapo cloth napkins) in a kitchen-friendly decorative box, but I didn't want to seem preachy ("Stop using paper towels, you environment destroyer!"). Would y'all use something like that? I doubt it. I am a FREAK about needing a napkin/paper towels when I eat. FREAK. I don't think I could give them up ever. And, really, it would just be more laundry, right? since I'd use about a million a day. eek! Sorry! What craft (or crafts) have you been wanting to try but have no idea where to start? I'd like to make jewelry at some point, but supplies are a bit expensive, and I'm not sure where to start... Would you appreciate some tunes in future packages? And if so, do you care if you get any CDs or mp3s you might have all ready? Or would you be able to find a way to post a list of things you're (a) looking for, or ( b ) all ready have? I think I answered this in the intial survey, but I'll do it again here. I LOVE music. But have little time to actually devote to listening to it, as I used to do it in the car... but my work commute is literally 3 minutes now. So while I would appreciate music, I just can't say I'd have time to listen. boohoo! Polish goodies! Who wants them? Baked goods, candies, kielbasa, pirogies, magazines, you name it? Ummm... It would be really weird to have someone mail me kielbasa. REALLY weird. That scares me. ***9/18*** How do you avoid popping an item for yourself into an order you're placing for your witchie? It is sooo hard. I really can't say I do avoid doing that. Just depends on the day and what is in my wallet at the time. LOL. Underpants? Do you like them? What's your style? Size? I like to buy my own panties, please. hehe What tea would you love to try but haven't because of price or difficulty to get? I typically drink mild/sweet green teas BPTP Room Sprays...your thoughts? They are AMAZING. I want a bottle of the Queen's Croquet at some point. It is delicious! Would you like to receive baked goods from your Witch? And if so, are there things you WOULDN'T like? I'm a little weird when it comes to food being sent to me. I have weird paranoias of contamination. I can't help it. so as much as I would love them, I really would have a hard time getting myself to eat them. I would probably have a panic attack. LOL. ***9/16*** Your thoughts on the update? No Blood Moon for me... or Pancakes. hehe. How do you decide what to put in which package for your Witchee or how many packages to send? I try to do three packages... or "gifts". And I do two smaller ones, than one larger at the end... and for grouping, sort of do it with what fits together (or in the box!) perfectly! If you were my witchee, would you be terribly offended if I sent you a box containing project "experiments" or random miscellaneous pretty bits of brainstorming that I thought you might like/wear? That would be awesome! Please, feel free! ***9/14-9/16*** Do you often drink take away coffe in paper mugs? Nope! Don't like coffee What would a perfume based on you smell like? Actually, I would say I hate it. eek! ***9/12*** What will you like from Singapore? Candies? Food? Asian crafts/toys? I love little toys, knick knacks, notepads, erasers, bandaids and the like from places... but foods and candies usually scare me. What is everyone's "luck" item? I have a moonstone I throw in my pocket sometimes that I think of as "lucky" Do you like art deco/nouveau - style prints? Not usually, but sometimes I find one that I really like. Just depends! I feel that way when I get even just an e-card. xoxo How do you feel about Hello Kitty? I like that store, with all the stuff with Hello Kitty and her friends, but don't typically buy things in there. I love Deery Lou (that is the name of the deer, right? LOL. I forget). She is too cute! 9/11*** Legwarmers? Armwarmers? love love LOVE these! What makes everyone stand out from the Switch Witch herd? Not really sure... If you are into the original Nintendo system, what 3 games would you want that you don't have? If I hadn't just gotten a Wii, I'd totally say "GIVE ME AN OLD NINTENDO! THAT WOULD ROCK!" and I'd probably kill someone for a California Games cartridge, too. hehe. What is your favorite category of the GC? Hmmm... Maybe the Arkham set? ***9/10*** Stance on Joss Whedon and his enterprises? He is a freaking GENIUS Has anyone tried ice wine before? Do/did they enjoy it? Nooo! ***9/9*** Do you play a musical instrument? Nah... as a kid I did (piano, clarinet). Now I just like to sing! What do you think of Irrelevant Disturbing and Surreal Crawdad Dream? Love it? Hate it? Kicking yourself for not getting a bottle? I love it! but have a lot already... How do you feel about trinkets? You know - tiny toys or doodads that serve no purpose than to be cute, take up space and make us smile. Love them or waste of money? I have tons of cute doodads! love themCan melty things be shipped to you, or will they be in puddles by the time you open the package? I guess it depends on how far you are from me Who likes pirates? Pirates are fun! But not in my decor or anything... What are your feelings about Dia De Los Muertos? Don't really know that much about the celebration, but would be interested in learning more. Sticky Pillowcase

Terminal sugar rush. A little goblin's candy bag, upended. Smushed candy corn, rock candy dust, marshmallow gunk, strawberry goo, spun blue sugar, globs of salt water taffy, and lint.   Reviewed 09/02/2008   In the bottle: Barely there berry and sugar.   Wet: Thick, sugary syrup, strawberry, and glittering candy. This is strong.   Dry: This is like Strawberry Moon and Treat #1 with a drizzle of Karo syrup on top and just a hint of a linen note to keep it from being sickly sweet. Lots of throw on this one, to my surprise.

*air punch*

So my BPAL from my old place has arrived! It's not a lot by most's standards (because man I know some people with a TON..) but it's nice to have it all back. Surprisingly, I have WAY more imps then I remember so I definitely need to get some of those ammo boxes in order to house them all.   I'm slowly converting my livejournal f-list into BPAL addicts I just sold my friend a decant of MVJBA and put some frimps in there for her to try. So far my plan is just talk about it constantly and rave about how delicious I smell. It seems to be working well so far! I'm wearing MVJBA today only because I *almost* spilled it and instead it got on my hand so all is not wasted although it doesn't smell nearly as good as it usually does because of that time of the month. I really hate being a girl sometimes   Tomorrow I'm thinking about trying out Shill or possibly one of the bazillion imps I have. I'm about to run to the PO to send out about 10 packages now including Mead Moon for my end of the swap with Grynet. I'm so paranoid about mailing BPAL, like OMG WHAT IF SOMETHING HAPPENS I WILL JUST DIE.

Halloweenie Reviews

Samhain (2008)Truly the scent of autumn itself -- damp woods, fir needle, and black patchouli with the gentlest touches of warm pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, allspice, sweet red apple and mullein. In the bottle, I get mostly spices -- allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon and clove -- and a bit of bright, fresh apple. Can something smell crisp? It smells like very crisp apples. On wet, the scent of the spices is pretty strong at first, with apples in the background and a bit of smoke coming through. Dry, this is really lovely. All the scents are well integrated, with nothing really overpowering any of the other notes. I get apples, smoke, and the aforementioned spices. It's very autumny and awesome. I love this.   Fearful PleasureAnother of his sources of fearful pleasure was, to pass long winter evenings with the old Dutch wives, as they sat spinning by the fire, with a row of apples roasting and spluttering along the hearth, and listen to their marvellous tales of ghosts and goblins, and haunted fields, and haunted brooks, and haunted bridges, and haunted houses, and particularly of the headless horseman, or galloping Hessian of the Hollow, as they sometimes called him. He would delight them equally by his anecdotes of witchcraft, and of the direful omens and portentous sights and sounds in the air, which prevailed in the earlier times of Connecticut; and would frighten them woefully with speculations upon comets and shooting stars; and with the alarming fact that the world did absolutely turn round, and that they were half the time topsy-turvy!   Dried orange peels floating in simmering cider, roasted apples, smoldering firewood, chimney smoke, sassafras beer, warm hawthorn wood, and oakmoss. In the bottle, this is pure apple cider. Apples, cinnamon, cloves, with a bit of orange peel. On wet, I get pretty much the same thing. Once it begins to dry, the smokiness comes out, with maybe a hint of a mossy green scent. This is really wonderful. I love apple cider scents, and this is everything I hoped it would be.   Sugar SkullVibrant with the joy and sweetness of life in death! A blend of five sugars, lightly dusted with candied fruits. In the bottle, this definitely smells like sugar, but not straight-up sugar. Like caramel or toffee. It has a deep, slightly smoky scent. On wet, it's much the same, but a slight spiciness begins to come out. Once dry, this is really awesome. Dark, smoky sugar with a hint of subtle spices. Love it!   Huesos de SantoOn All Saints Day, Spanish families visit their loved ones in the cemeteries, keeping vigil throughout the evening, saying prayers for the dead. Family burial plots are cleaned and tended, and graves are adorned with gladiolas, chrysanthemums, and roses. Bone-shaped pastries called Saint's Bones, or the Bones of the Holy, are baked and shared in honor of the souls in Purgatory, and to remind us of those who no longer share our repast, but with whom we one day hope to be reunited with again.   Orange-glazed cake, dotted with anise seed, and filled with custard, set beside a bouquet of celebratory funeral flowers. In the bottle, this smells like spicy creamsicles. On wet, I still get the creamsicle scent, but the spices and a hint of smoke are more apparent. As it dries, the anise seed begins to come out, and I get a very subtle scent like slightly burned popcorn (but not in a bad way). This is nice. I like it.   Harvest MoonHarvest Moon is celebrated in almost every culture, and the bounty of the season is marked in a myriad of ways. Harvest Moon touches the Equinox, the festival of Janus, the culmination of Homowo, the "crying of the neck" in Cornwall, and the Women's Festival of the Moon. This is a day that celebrates abundance and beauty, fertility and progress, and the light of this full moon blesses new undertakings and reunites lost loves.   The Harvest Moon, by definition, is the Full Moon that falls closest to the Autumnal Equinox, and thus, it shares some of that Sabbat's characteristics. This Full Moon was thus named because it rises within half an hour of the sun's setting, in the Northern Hemisphere, and at this time farmers are able to work longer into the night by the light of this Moon. As the year draws to a close, the Full Moon rises an average of fifty minutes later each night, with the exception of a few nights surrounding the Harvest Moon, which only rises 10-30 minutes later. This moon is also, to the human eye, the fullest and largest of the year's Moons, hanging gloriously huge, yellow and low in the night sky, and many lunar illusions play tricks our eyes at this time.   The Harvest ushers in many celebrations, including the Equinox and the Festival of Janus, God of Doors. Janus is the Roman Lord of Gateways, beginnings and endings, and transitions. Thus, the Harvest Moon is a time for blessing new ventures, the onset of new and progressive phases in one's life, and rites of passage into adulthood. This time of year also marks one of the Festivals of Dionysus, Lord of Ecstasy and the Vine.   This Harvest lunacy combines the autumnal scents of balsam fir, cedar, juniper berry, clove, saffron, damson plum, sage, black cherry, and fennel with the crushed wine grapes of Dionysus and Janus' lingum aloes. In the bottle, I dried, wet leaves, pine and smoke. On wet, it's a little too much pine at first. There's some spiciness as well -- maybe allspice? The longer it's on, however, the more the leaves and smoke begin to come through. Once this is really dry, it's very nice. The pine scent settles down to something manageable and pleasant. I like it.   Hellhound On My Trail… blues falling down like hail And the day keeps on remindin' me, there's a hellhound on my trail …   August 16th marks the day the Devil came to call on the King of the Delta Blues.   Bay rum, bourbon vanilla, galangal, hyssop, High John the Conqueror root, tobacco, life everlasting, and brimstone. In the bottle, the bourbon vanilla is quite strong. I can also smell the bay rum and a bit of brimstone. On wet, it's pretty much the same, though I start to get a hint of muskiness. Dry, this is really great. Boozy tobacco and brimstone goodness. It smells especially nice on my hubby.   Chant d'AutomneI Soon we will sink in the frigid darkness Good-bye, brightness of our too short summers! I already hear the fall in distress Of the wood falling in the paved courtyard.   Winter will invade my being: anger, Hatred, chills, horror, hard and forced labor, And, like the sun in its iced inferno, My heart is but a red and frozen floe.   I hear with shudders each weak limb that falls. The scaffold will have no louder echo. My spirit is like a tower that yields Under the tireless and heavy ram blow.   It seems, lulled by this monotonous sound, Somewhere a coffin is hastily nailed, For whom? Summer yesterday, autumn now! This mysterious noise sounds like a farewell.   II I love the greenish light of your long eyes, Sweet beauty, but all is bitter today. Nothing, not love, the boudoir or the hearth Is dearer than the sunshine on the sea.   Still love me, tender heart! Be a mother Even to the ingrate, to the wicked, Lover, sister, ephemeral sweetness Of fall's glory or of the setting sun.   Short-lived task! The tomb awaits, merciless. Ah! Let me, my head resting on your knees, Savor, regretting the white hot summer, The autumn's last rays yellow and tender.   The scent of the year's fall and the setting sun, ominous and foreboding: dried leaves, charred wood, blood musk, amber, khus, and Nicotiana tabacum. In the bottle, I get a nice scent of charred wood, leaves and tobacco. On wet, I get smoke, char, leaves, tobacco and something very heavy and flowery/powdery. This does not bode well. I waited for this to dry, but that heavy scent just doesn't go away, and it doesn't work for me. Bummer.   Brom BonesAmong these the most formidable was a burly, roaring, roystering blade, of the name of Abraham, or, according to the Dutch abbreviation, Brom Van Brunt, the hero of the country round, which rang with his feats of strength and hardihood. He was broad-shouldered and double-jointed, with short curly black hair, and a bluff, but not unpleasant countenance, having a mingled air of fun and arrogance. From his Herculean frame and great powers of limb, he had received the nickname of BROM BONES, by which he was universally known. He was famed for great knowledge and skill in horsemanship, being as dexterous on horseback as a Tartar.   He was foremost at all races and cock-fights; and, with the ascendancy which bodily strength acquires in rustic life, was the umpire in all disputes, setting his hat on one side, and giving his decisions with an air and tone admitting of no gainsay or appeal. He was always ready for either a fight or a frolic; but had more mischief than ill-will in his composition; and, with all his overbearing roughness, there was a strong dash of waggish good humor at bottom. He had three or four boon companions, who regarded him as their model, and at the head of whom he scoured the country, attending every scene of feud or merriment for miles round. In cold weather he was distinguished by a fur cap, surmounted with a flaunting fox's tail; and when the folks at a country gathering descried this well-known crest at a distance, whisking about among a squad of hard riders, they always stood by for a squall. Sometimes his crew would be heard dashing along past the farmhouses at midnight, with whoop and halloo, like a troop of Don Cossacks; and the old dames, startled out of their sleep, would listen for a moment till the hurry-scurry had clattered by, and then exclaim, "Ay, there goes Brom Bones and his gang!" The neighbors looked upon him with a mixture of awe, admiration, and good will; and when any madcap prank, or rustic brawl, occurred in the vicinity, always shook their heads, and warranted Brom Bones was at the bottom of it.   The butchest, manliest of musks covered in well-worn leather. In the bottle, I get leather with a hint of musk. On wet, it's mostly leather. As it dries, it's a lovely leather and musk scent, yet somehow manages to smell clean as well. I LOVE this on my husband. It's perfect.   GunpowderThat he might make his appearance before his mistress in the true style of a cavalier, he borrowed a horse from the farmer with whom he was domiciliated, a choleric old Dutchman, of the name of Hans Van Ripper, and, thus gallantly mounted, issued forth, like a knight-errant in quest of adventures. But it is meet I should, in the true spirit of romantic story, give some account of the looks and equipments of my hero and his steed. The animal he bestrode was a broken-down plough-horse, that had outlived almost every thing but his viciousness. He was gaunt and shagged, with a ewe neck and a head like a hammer; his rusty mane and tail were tangled and knotted with burrs; one eye had lost its pupil, and was glaring and spectral; but the other had the gleam of a genuine devil in it. Still he must have had fire and mettle in his day, if we may judge from the name he bore of Gunpowder. He had, in fact, been a favorite steed of his master's, the choleric Van Ripper, who was a furious rider, and had infused, very probably, some of his own spirit into the animal; for, old and broken-down as he looked, there was more of the lurking devil in him than in any young filly in the country.   Carrot peelings, hay, chaff, molasses, maple oats, red apples, stable wood, and musk. In the bottle, this smells very edible. It's carrots and hay with a lot of molasses and maple oats. On wet, it's pretty much the same, but the musk also begins to come through. Dry, it's pretty much the same again. This is very nice; it smells warm and cozy. It's comforting. Unfortunately, it's not a scent I would wear, much as I love foodie scents. I may try this in an oil burner or something, though.   Ichabod CraneThe cognomen of Crane was not inapplicable to his person. He was tall, but exceedingly lank, with narrow shoulders, long arms and legs, hands that dangled a mile out of his sleeves, feet that might have served for shovels, and his whole frame most loosely hung together. His head was small, and flat at top, with huge ears, large green glassy eyes, and a long snipe nose, so that it looked like a weather-cock, perched upon his spindle neck, to tell which way the wind blew. To see him striding along the profile of a hill on a windy day, with his clothes bagging and fluttering about him one might have mistaken him for the genius of famine descending upon the earth, or some scarecrow eloped from a cornfield.   . . .   From his half itinerant life, also, he was a kind of travelling gazette, carrying the whole budget of local gossip from house to house; so that his appearance was always greeted with satisfaction. He was, moreover, esteemed by the women as a man of great erudition, for he had read several books quite through, and was a perfect master of Cotton Mather's history of New England Witchcraft, in which, by the way, he most firmly and potently believed.   He was, in fact, an odd mixture of small shrewdness and simple credulity. His appetite for the marvellous, and his powers of digesting it, were equally extraordinary; and both had been increased by his residence in this spellbound region. No tale was too gross or monstrous for his capacious swallow. It was often his delight, after his school was dismissed in the afternoon, to stretch himself on the rich bed of clover, bordering the little brook that whimpered by his school-house, and there con over old Mather's direful tales, until the gathering dusk of the evening made the printed page a mere mist before his eyes. Then, as he wended his way, by swamp and stream and awful woodland, to the farmhouse where he happened to be quartered, every sound of nature, at that witching hour, fluttered his excited imagination: the moan of the whip-poor-will from the hill-side; the boding cry of the tree-toad, that harbinger of storm; the dreary hooting of the screech-owl, or the sudden rustling in the thicket of birds frightened from their roost. The fire-flies, too, which sparkled most vividly in the darkest places, now and then startled him, as one of uncommon brightness would stream across his path; and if, by chance, a huge blockhead of a beetle came winging his blundering flight against him, the poor varlet was ready to give up the ghost, with the idea that he was struck with a witch's token. His only resource on such occasions, either to drown thought, or drive away evil spirits, was to sing psalm tunes;-and the good people of Sleepy Hollow, as they sat by their doors of an evening, were often filled with awe, at hearing his nasal melody, "in linked sweetness long drawn out," floating from the distant hill, or along the dusky road.   Dusty black wool, tea with cream, black pepper, muguet, and beeswax candle drippings. In the bottle, there's a very strong beeswax scent, with a hint of tea. On wet, I get beeswax, tea and pepper. There's sort of a popcorn scent. Dry, it's strongly beeswax, with cream, pepper and a hint of tea. I really like this, but unfortunately my hubby thinks it smells a little like pee, so I won't be wearing this much.   The Hessian of the HollowThe dominant spirit, however, that haunts this enchanted region, and seems to be commander-in-chief of all the powers of the air, is the apparition of a figure on horseback without a head. It is said by some to be the ghost of a Hessian trooper, whose head had been carried away by a cannon-ball, in some nameless battle during the revolutionary war; and who is ever and anon seen by the country folk hurrying along in the gloom of night, as if on the wings of the wind. His haunts are not confined to the valley, but extend at times to the adjacent roads, and especially to the vicinity of a church at no great distance. Indeed, certain of the most authentic historians of those parts, who have been careful in collecting and collating the floating facts concerning this spectre, allege that the body of the trooper, having been buried in the church-yard, the ghost rides forth to the scene of battle in nightly quest of his head; and that the rushing speed with which he sometimes passes along the Hollow, like a midnight blast, is owing to his being belated, and in a hurry to get back to the church-yard before daybreak.   Such is the general purport of this legendary superstition, which has furnished materials for many a wild story in that region of shadows; and the spectre is known, at all the country firesides, by the name of the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow.   Grave moss and bone-white sandalwood, with vetiver, gunpowder, artillery shrapnel, and blood. This smells great. The scents are very well integrated and difficult to differentiate. I definitely get the blood, sandalwood and vetiver notes, maybe a hint of something metallic. I really like this one.   The Witching Time of NightIt was the very witching time of night that Ichabod, heavy-hearted and crest-fallen, pursued his travel homewards, along the sides of the lofty hills which rise above Tarry Town, and which he had traversed so cheerily in the afternoon. The hour was dismal as himself. Far below him, the Tappan Zee spread its dusky and indistinct waste of waters, with here and there the tall mast of a sloop, riding quietly at anchor under the land. In the dead hush of midnight, he could even hear the barking of the watch dog from the opposite shore of the Hudson; but it was so vague and faint as only to give an idea of his distance from this faithful companion of man. Now and then, too, the long-drawn crowing of a cock, accidentally awakened, would sound far, far off from some farmhouse away among the hills-but it was like a dreaming sound in his ear. No signs of life occurred near him, but occasionally the melancholy chirp of a cricket, or perhaps the guttural twang of a bull-frog, from a neighboring marsh, as if sleeping uncomfortably, and turning suddenly in his bed.   Moonflower, night-blooming cereus, white hellebore, English ivy, monkshood, angel's trumpet, oleander, and eastern hemlock. In the bottle, this smells really lovely. Green and floral in the soft, not-too-sweet way that I like. It does smell like the outdoors at night. Unfortunately, on me, it just smells a little too soapy. Bummer.

Switch Witchery

Hi Witch!   Here are all the answers to the questions in the thread. All in one place to make things a wee bit easier for you!   Love your witchee, SmallPaws   And here are the questions!   Where does everyone like shop for witching goodness? This is my first round, but, I anticipate that I will shop at various Etsy retailers and other etailers. I travel internationally a lot for work, so, I plan on hitting market stalls pretty much anywhere I go. I might have purchased one item on my last trip for my as yet unknown witchee. I couldn't help myself. What is your favorite pumpkin goodness? Cookies! I also love pumpkin doughnuts that the local bakery in my town in Massachusetts used to make. Completely drool worthy. Pumpkin bread is a sure winner as well! Especially warm pumpkin bread drizzled with honey. Also, every year, I roast pumpkin seeds. I make two varieties: spicy and sugared. Mmmmmmmm... What is your favorite part about fall? The leaves and breaking out my cold weather clothing. I always dress better in the fall. My other favorite thing is spiced apple cider (can you get that in England?) Do you like office/school supplies? If so, what is your favorites? I love paper. All kinds of paper. And cute folders. And fun notecards and stationary. And pens. What is your favorite Halloween candy? I love the pumpkin candy. Like candy corn, but, pumpkin shaped. Really, any Halloween candy is good. You can't find it in the UK and I will totally have Halloween candy withdrawal this year. Right or left-handed? I can use both hands, but, tend to write with my right and eat with my left. Any period of time that you love? My degree is in medieval studies, so, anything medieval. I also love Roman and Celtic eras. I am a little too obsessed with Tudor England, but, I love the characters involved. Amazing personalities. I also have an obsession with anything Eleanor of Aquitaine, Christine de Pizan, Katherine Swynford, and Chaucer related. And a decidedly unhealthy obsession with Elizabeth I. What is your favorite crafting supply? Amazing fabric! I love different types of patterns, weights, etc. Reduce - REUSE - recycle. Do others feel the same? Yes, very much so. I have so much stuff that I have found while trolling through thrift stores. It takes ages, but, you can find some real gems. I am also a recycling fiend. I have so many linen and hemp bags for shopping, that it is embarrassing. Tattoos! Do you have em? Do you want em? Whatcha got or getting? Not yet, but, I am working on something quite nifty. What about the Halloween scents? I will be putting in a rather large order along with my last bottles of CD (only two) back-ups. I plan on ordering: Blade of Grass, Autumn Coolness, Mictecacihuatl, Sugar Skull, To Autumn, Day of Skulls, and Katrina Von Tassel. I really want Ichabod and a couple of others, but, I must show a bit of restraint. Also, no matter how much I swoon over something, there will be no back-up bottles. I have to be a good little girl even if I don't want to be. What is one item that you've wanted forever, could have afforded, but have never gotten and why (haven't you gotten it!)? There are loads of these, but, the one that stands out was a complete tea set. It was gorgeous hand-thrown pottery and had a leaf theme. Sigh. I am still kicking myself over that. Love it and always want to try new ones! Tints are okay, but, no sparklies, please.   Two favorite Etsy stores: Savor and GlitteryBlue. I actually have several favorites, but, those will do!   Do you have an Etsy store? Nope.   Knit or crochet? Nope   What would you tell yourself 6 months in the past about 2008 so far? It will be one hell of a ride and no matter how depressed you may get, just try to stay positive.   Other forums? Nope.   If you had one minute of fame, what would you say or do? Run like hell. I never want to be famous.   Robots vs Zombies? Zombies because they are cooler than Robots.   Do you have phobias? No, not really. Does fear of failure count?   English candy/tea/marmite or other stuff that you love and can't easily get outside of England? Well, I live in England, so, not an issue for me. I miss a select few American food stuffs, though.   Bandaids: do you like the fun and funky ones? Sure!   How do you like your mix CDs? Random? Stuff you know you'll like? Random. I love being introduced to new music.   And, secondly, what is something you've been searching for but just can't find? A really great winter hat. I have lots of hair, so, most of them tend to work their way into a weird dunce hat. Also, the ones I find that fit are generally too light and my head gets cold. I have a small head but LOTS of hair. The other thing is good veggie cookbooks. I have found a few, but, the meals aren't any healthier. I would love a veggie cookbook with healthy, tasty, and fun recipes.   What kind of music (genres, please) do you like? I listen to all kinds of things. I love old folk (Phil Ochs) and new folk (Antje Duvecot, Kris Harmer, Great Lake Swimmers). Singer/songwriters are brilliant! Tori Amos is fabulous and in my top five of artists. Honestly, my tastes are all over the place. The only things I don't like are rap, death metal, and new R&B. However, I like jazz, blues, soul, reggae. Ella Fitzgerald is another in my top five!   What kinds of eye shadows do we all like? I have a severe allergy to just about every eyeshadow on the market. Sad, but, true.   Fanfic as a gift* - yay or nay? Your fandom? Slash preferences? I am not a fangirl of any particular thing, so, this wouldn't work for me.   Do you like making up your SW packages around a theme, or prefer to mix it all up?: This is my first round, so, I have no idea! I might try for a theme and see how it goes. I have a feeling I may get carried away with getting all different kinds of things that my witchee likes!   Would you rather get food or jewellery? Jewelry! I am trying to lose weight, so, lots of food would be a bad thing (unless it is good for me food or American Halloween candy-which will be rationed throughout the year). Tea, however, is a very good thing!   How do people feel about receiving baked goods/kits to make said goods? Or other cooking items? Would you enjoy oil or vinegar flavored with herbs grown at home? Strange and exotic spices with recipes to try? Cookies made with carnation petals? Sounds awesome! I love to cook. I just need to get that pesky baking thing down..   Are you a Trekkie? If so, which series do you prefer? Do you have a favorite character? Nope.   What are your pet's names, and what are they named for? - Three dogs. Buster- a medium sized black lab mastiff mix. He started life as my husband's dog, but, now he is my dog, too. He is named after another Buster who was hit by a car. He is old at the age of nearly 13. Marley is a Chihuahua who looks more like a deer than a dog with his brown color, skinny body, and long legs. He is named after Bob Marley because he used to run in circles and happily bark whenever I played Bob Marley. He is the middle child at the age of 6. Bailey is some sort of terrier mix and is the puppy at the age of 3. He is named after the bailey portion of a Motte and Bailey castle. The Bailey was often where the prison was and when I found my Bailey, he was locked inside a deserted apartment and inside a dog carrier with no food or water. He was only 3 months old. I rescued him and being the dorky medievalist that I am, named him Bailey.   What's the scariest thing that's ever happened to you? When I thought for all of five minutes that my husband had been killed in a car crash. The car just happened to be the same model and share the same first three numbers of the licence plate. He was a mile and a half behind me, thankfully.   How do you scent yourself? Do you layer soaps, moisturizers, etc. or do you go straight to slathering your bod with BPAL? I sometimes layer lotions and BPAL if I have ones that complement each other. I have also been know to slather myself with Villainess Ginger Snapped Whipped. The scent hangs around for awhile and I find it comforting. So much so that I have three jars of it for fear of running out! Other times, it is all BPAL and only BPAL.   Do you/how do you scent your world? Candles, incense, diffusers, potpourri? None of the above? I really need things to scent my world with! When I still lived outside Boston, I used candles, incense, and room sprays. I have always wanted to get an oil burner and a reed diffuser. I have yet to get all that stuff since moving. I have been focused on the more practical like food, dog food, and getting my driving licence.   BPAL is such a scent-ual experience. What are your other tactile, aural, or olfactory pleasures (I was going to say, "And let's keep it clean", but what's the use fun in that?!? I love soft fabric! Especially in blankets or throws that I can curl up under. I love music and it is on constantly. I love it when my husband plays with my hair or rubs my back because he has great hands and it is so relaxing. I adore the rain (which is good living in England). Both the sound and the smell. I also love the sound of snow (which I miss terribly). That quite hush that is an almost otherworldly sound. And of course, the smell of autumn can't be rivaled. I also love the feeling of my dogs snuggled against me. Warm paws and puppy snores are so great...   If you drink coffee (and make it yourself) do you use a French Press, regular filter basket coffee maker, Espresso Machine, Percolator? If I drink it, it has to be French press or latte. I very rarely drink coffee because it can upset my stomach. I love the smell, though!   What movie soundtracks (or scores) do you love? I love Broadway musicals! I know I have loads, but, can't think of any now.   What kind of indulgences do you really really want, but can't seem to make yourself buy? Maybe out of character, or a part of yourself you're busy denying? Decorations for the house. Soft scarves and jewelry. Things for me that aren't "essential". Yes, I buy BPAL, but that is my one true indulgence. When I buy other stuff that I would love, I am generally buying it as a gift for a family member or friend (or witchee). I actually have a hard time buying nice stuff for myself. I even had to put it in my 101 goals in 1001 days to get me to do it (at the prodding of my husband).   My questionnaire is chock-a-block with ideas for Witching me on the cheap, and without sending "stuff for stuff's sake". And I just came up with another one--make me a Pandora, Finetune, or Last.fm station you think I might like! What manner of affordable Witchery might you covet? Anything! I don't know what Pandora, Finetune, or Last.fm is, but, I am open to all manner of new things. I love homemade goodies! They are the most special. When I got my critter, I was overcome with joy for over a week because someone made something especially for me. It was so touching. And cheap things are great! I would never turn my nose up at lip balm, candy, post cards, etc. All of those things are wonderful! It is the thought that is so touching.   Does your cell phone have a place to attach charms? No, it doesn't. My charm from Cyphersushi hangs from my handbag.   Does the weather change where you are, as in, does it get cold in the winter? Anyone need homegrown scarves, hats, mittens, etc? Yes, it does change. Quite a bit and the cold here is so much worse than the cold found on a snowy Massachusetts winter day. Here, the cold is damp and it invades your body and your house. It is so hard to keep warm. So, fluffy warm scarves, hats, and mittens would always be appreciated.   What is your favorite art movement and/or style? ie impressionist, surrealist, art nouveau, etc. Medieval, Celtic, Roman, and the more modern stuff I like would be Pre-Raphaelite. Waterhouse, Dante Rossetti, for example.   Do you have a case for your mp3 player/digital camera? If you would want one, what size is your digital device? I do! It is awesome because it sticks it to the dashboard of my car.   For tea drinkers, do you bag it or prefer loose No preference, really. I take my own tea to work, so, it is in bags there. At home, I use a variety of bags and loose. I have been buying more loose recently because the teas that sounded yummy were only available loose.   Who are your forum buddies? People you know well enough online or IRL to help your Witch pick out stuff for you? I don't have loads as I am newish around here. I would say Cyphersushi because she stalked me during critter making, Gwenhyfar because we have chatted a bit, and Nekogrrl as we have emailed some.   Flavored oils and vinegars? Exotic spices? Oh yes! I am a cooking fiend and spices are my friends!   Favorite Halloween song? Monster Mash or anything from Rocky Horror.   Alice in Wonderland? I enjoyed the book, but, I am not mad about it.   How do you feel about having a donation made in your name to something? If you like that idea, what types of organizations/groups would you want the donation to go to? Sure! Anything animal related like Dogs Trust, RSPCA, MSPCA, Texas SPCA, etc. Or Plant-a-Tree type things would be awesome as well.   Do you wear a watch? No, but, that is because I can never find one I love. I like the hippie cuff looking ones, but, the ones I find that are fantastic are also fantastically expensive. I don't do expensive.

Halloweenies have landed! And a CD locket! All in one day!

My Halloweenie order arrived today!   Harvest Moon, Hellhound On My Trail, Chant d'Automne, Huesos de Santo, Sugar Skull, Samhain, Brom Bones, Fearful Pleasure, Gunpowder, Ichabod Crane, The Hessian of the Hollow and The Witching Time of Night.   Plus my replacement bottle of SGA for the one stolen by someone in the post office.   These are so right up my alley. I love fall, and autumn scents.   AND... my CD locket from BPTP came today too. It is beautiful! I love it.   Not surprisingly, given the size of my order, I got a ton of frimps from the lab. 20, to be exact. Plus 6 from the post. Of the 26, only one was a scent I had tried before, and there were only two pairs (two Queen Gertrudes and two Wantons).   Looks like I've got a LOT of sniffing to do.   Oh! And I will soon have Halloweenie decants, once I try them all and decide which ones I'm willing to decant, and which I want to hoard.

Even MORE questions...

***9/1*** Who here is a complete, over the top, Alice In Wonderland fanatic? While I like 'em fine, I'm not a fanatic Are you a Trekkie? If so, which series do you prefer? Do you have a favorite character? I like the show a lot, not a Trekkie tho. I love me some Picard. I am however an X-Phile, a fiend for anything Joss Whedon has done, and a huge New Doctor Who/Torchwood/Sarah Jane junky. Do you have phobias? Yes. Clowns. How do you like your mix CDs? Random? Stuff you know you'll like? Both. Would you rather get food or jewellery? Hm. I don't see how you can go wrong with either choice...tho I'm not sure about food crossing the border/ Do you like children's toys, such as jacks, those little things you tilt around to get the ball in the right hold (wtf are those called?), the aforementioned caplet dinosaurs, cap guns, etc?: I like Hello Kitty and Chococat a lot English candy/tea/marmite or other stuff that you love and can't easily get outside of England? I'm in Canada so I have a good source of British stuff anyway (we have a British Grocery, but you can't ever go wrong with Cadbury or tea. But oh please not marmite! Fanfic as a gift* - yay or nay? Your fandom? Slash preferences?*well, a virtual gift obviously. You know what I mean. Yay. Torchwood (where obviously slash is canon), Doctor Who, X-Files, Buffy, Firefly etc. I don't like romance fic honestly, I prefer alternative type episode fics really. The exception being Torchwood which, while it's about catching aliens, it's also about the relationships. Any beaders here? Need beading supplies? Nopers Do you like making up your SW packages around a theme, or prefer to mix it all up? I haven't decided yet Band-aids: do you like the fun and funky ones? Absolutely. What's the scariest thing that's ever happened to you? Recently? My dad having a heart attack. Ever? Being in the hospital with my then 3 year old having them check him for CF. He's fine, has asthma and is turning 16 or my dad having his heart attack. ***8/31*** What is everyone's favorite Halloween song?! Tubular Bells. How many of mah fellow witchies play video games? Platform? Do you like used games? I play DDR and Karaoke Revolution on our PS2. We also have a Wii n the house that I haven't played games on as much, tho I'm pretty good at Wii Sports. And yes, used games are cool. What kind of music (genres, please) do you like? Most everything but country and opera. New stuff, old stuff, stuff in between. Have any of you ever received a book from a Witchy and loved it so much you ended up buying a copy for a later Witchee? Nope. What kinds of eye shadows do we all like? MAC, Urban Decay and Hard Candy mostly for big names. Fyrinnae and Archetype for mineral stuff, tho I want to try She Space too. Gently used make up is also cool btw. Oh and I wear browns mostly but I love experimenting. I can't seem to find a green that works, and red makes me look like I'm crying but I'm open to suggestions, I'll post a picture later so you can see what I look like Do you like lip balm? If so, do you like tinted, glossy, sparkly, pearly or just plain lip balm? All of the above. What are some of the SW gifts/finds from past rounds (or you can just name a gift in general that you found for someone if this is your first round!) that you are the most proud of in terms of your sleuthing skills? I think the Alice in Wonderland stuff I got for Delphinine. And, secondly, what is something you've been searching for but just can't find? The perfect purse, but I don't expect you all to help with that ***8/22*** Where does everyone like shop for witching goodness? I have a variety of e-tailers I like to use. What is your favorite pumpkin goodness? Um. I don't actually like pumpkin. Not the smell, not the taste...and the pulp makes me itchy. I like carving them I guess. OH and the roasted seeds are good!

Halloweenie 2008 Switch Witch questions

Cue massive compilation post! This will be updated as more questions are added.   Favorite Pumpkin thing? Pumpkin lattes/cappuccinos. Or Trader Joe's pumpkin butter.   Favorite thing about fall? The colors, and the air temperature that is not quite warm, not quite cold, but not just in the middle either.   Favorite Office supplies? Fineliner pens in assorted colors. Armed and ready to doodle!   Favorite Halloween Candy? Probably Twizzlers or Whoppers.   Will you be participating NaNoWriMo? Not this year, I don't think. I have a partial idea for a novel, but unless there is a stroke of sudden inspiration - and a gap of sudden free time - it won't be doable in/by November. I may try to do another chapter of my graphic novel in that time, though.   Any period of time that you love? Turn of the 20th century. The year 1906 is important with so many of the different things that interest me that it's actually pretty weird.   Right or left handed? Righty.   Favorite craft supply? Do prismacolor markers count?   Reduce - REUSE - recycle. Do others feel the same? Definitely!   Tattoos! Do you have em? Do you want em? Whatcha got or getting? I don't have any, and while I don't actively want one now, I haven't ruled out the possibility if I think of a design I'd want to have on me forever and ever. Right now, I think some sort of waveform could be appropriate, to represent both seismic and sound waves, but again, I'm not sure how I would feel about that in the future.   What about the Halloween scents? I ordered a bottle of Fearful Pleasure, but that's it. I was also intrigued by Meditation In Autumn, Pumpkins II and IV, and Ichabod Crane, but I knew I was only going to order one, and I kept thinking back to Fearful Pleasure, so that it was.   What is one item that you've wanted forever, could have afforded, but have never gotten and why (haven't you gotten it!)? I've wanted an iPhone since they came out, but I can't justify it because my normal cell phone works fine, my iPod works fine, and my parents haven't kicked me off the family cell phone plan yet, so I'm actually not paying phone bills right now. I could afford the phone bills (and, of course, the actual phone, since the TA salary is pretty decent), but the longer I can go without having to pay them, the better.   Who here prefers stylus and ink to ballpoint? Anyone invested time and effort into calligraphy or proper Victorian writing? I mostly have ballpoints, but I like fountain pens, too. I have this really awesome little fountain pen that I bought in Germany. I have not put in effort for fancy handwriting, though. My handwriting, when I am not trying hard, is horrid. It baffles me when people say they think it looks cool, though this has happened.   What about stationery? Need some? What styles do you like? I have fallen out of the habit of writing actual letters, so I don't use stationery. I do, however, like blank books with nice paper in which to write/draw.   Do you decorate for Halloween? Nothing beyond a carved pumpkin, and I haven't had time to do that for a couple of years. This is sad! Maybe this year...   Bats, cats, skeletons, monsters, vampires, witches or what other ghoulies do you prefer? I am partial to cats, bats, werewolves, and unusual/creative monsters.   Do you dress up? I like to! I haven't been able to for the past two years, no thanks to school and work, but Halloween is a Friday this year...   Do you like horror flicks? Not particularly, unless they are tongue-in-cheek.   If you have a garden/planter box, what do you grow? Don't have one. I had a tangerine bonsai tree at one point, but it croaked and I was sad. I think there is not enough light in my apartment. If I ever have a house with a yard, I so want fruit trees in it.   Incense? I've never used it.   Bugs? I like them on four conditions: 1)They are not in my apartment, 2)They are not in my food, 3)They are not trying to bite me, 4)They are not mosquitoes, even if they are not actively biting me   Favorite campfire ghost story? When I was little and was in scouts, we made up a story about a haunted latrine. I can't remember the actual story, but that is probably just secondary to the fact that it's a haunted latrine.   Imp storage? Right now, they're just on in a row on one of my desk shelves. There are only eight of them, so it is not like they're crowding anything out. (The rock collection still dominates that shelf.) I guess I could go the Altoids box route.   Candy corn? In moderation! Once a year counts as moderation. I get in the mood for it, eat too much of it, and then don't want it again until the next October.   Are there any of y'all who are allergic/sensitive to having natural fibers on your skin? I have never had problems with this.   What keywords do you use when searching for items for yourself on Etsy? I've actually never poked around on Etsy. I probably should; it seems like the kind of place I could sell some of my own stuff.   Halloween. Do you like it kooky or creepy? A good combination of both.   Reserved or Raunchy? Deeefinitely reserved. Other people being raunchy makes me embarrassed.   Earth, Wind, Fire or Water? All of those personality test thingies online I've done for elements - and apparently my zodiac sign as well - say I'm Wind. It fits well. But, as a geologist, I have a very strong interest in/attachment to Earth!   Tea or Coffee in the morning? Coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon.   Fruity snacks or chocolate? Depends entirely on my mood.   Would you accept art? YES! I will also likely draw things for people.   Antiques or Brand New? Both are cool.   Crossword puzzles? Other pencil puzzles? Sudoku!   Favorite artist? Hmmmm. I really like the art deco/art noveau/jugendstil style of the turn of the 20th century. Klimt is awesome. I also tend to like impressionism. Jeez, I gotta go to more art museums. Am I allowed to say any photographers? Because Ansel Adams is awesome. What about comics artists? P. Craig Russell!   Favorite poet? Eichendorff is good. Goethe, too. I've set some of Stephen Vincent Benet's work to music. Should also read more poetry, really.   What is your favorite autumnal-seasonal drink? Gonna have to go with that pumpkin latte again. Though I love hot mulled apple cider, too.   What's your favorite book? Oh GAH. May I abstain, for the inability to narrow it down?   Meaningful symbols? Alto clef, music notes in general, string instrument f-hole, seismograms, those half-arrows used to show the direction of fault motion on a geologic map, cat paw prints, the constellation Orion   What's your favorite type of music to hear live, rather than recorded? (I figure I should answer my own question, yeah?) Symphonic music. I can always hear so many more details in the orchestration and texture in a live concert than on a recording. Also, the sheer volume that can come out of a full orchestra may get lost in the transfer to CD.   What size socks do you wear? How about hat size? Small socks! A large from the boys' section fits better than a small from the men's section. I haven't a clue about my hat size, since the only pieces of headwear I currently own are an adjustable Steelers cap and a Civil War soldier cap with no size printed on it. I would say small hats, to play it safe.   Do you read comics? Which ones do you love and which can't you stand? Heck yes! In terms of published graphic novels/comic books, some favorites are Neil Gaiman's Sandman, Bill Willingham's Fables, Alan Moore's Top Ten, Peter David's X-Factor, and Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and P. Craig Russell's adaptions of operas. I've also been meaning to pick up Hellboy. In terms of webcomics, I follow Ozy and Milllie (SO sad this is ending soon!), Wondermark, Wapsi Square, Zebra Girl, XKCD, and Khaos Komix. If something looks like I'm not going to stand it, I generally don't pick it up. Haven't really run into anything like that yet. I guess I'm not a huge fan of the brand of superhero comic that's just one-shot vanquishing of villains, one per issue, without any overarching plot. I like plot.   By nature are you a morning lark or a night owl? Night owl, no question. My thesis advisor, however, is a morning lark. This could make for interesting scheduling of meetings once the school year starts.   Vanilla Creme Kisses? If this is, in fact, candy, then yes!   BoiWitches? Question for you both.....Hath any of thou own a Kilt? I don't have one, and it really wouldn't be practical for fieldwork. However, if I'd been a band geek instead of an orchestra dork, I would've had to wear one in undergrad. Our mascot was the Tartans, and the marching band was called the Kiltie Band. (Now I'm at a grad school where the mascot is the Highlanders, but only the actual bagpipe corps wears kilts.)   Are you a soap addict? I use soap! (I'm sure you're all glad!) But as a practical thing, not as a thing of particular interest. If it kills germs and doesn't make my hands get all dry and cracked, we're good.   What is one (only one) object that you collect, that totally goes against your personality or beliefs? Hahahaha, probably BPAL! I've honestly never been someone who puts a whole lot of effort into my appearance or grooming ritual. I do functional and comfortable. I actually surprised myself with how much the BPAL scent descriptions intrigued me, and was even more shocked with how much I'm enjoying the actual scents so far. (I smell like Tenochtitlan right now. It is nice. It also is a good distraction from the smell of the building being under construction.) Needless to say, this speaks quite highly of BPAL.   Some of my favorite places? Carrizo Plain National Monument, California Parkfield, California San Francisco, California (Lots of people seem to think I'm from there. It's kind of weird.) Back to the Grind, a coffeeshop in downtown Riverside, California Antietam National Battlefield, Maryland Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Caliban Used Books, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Fenwick Island, Delaware (ahh, the nostalgia!) Mary Riley Stiles Public Library, Falls Church, Virginia (more nostalgia) The Smithsonian, Washington, DC (I was a docent in the Natural History museum for nine months) Munich, Germany Steinbach am Attersee, Austria Toblach (AKA Dobbiaco), Italy   Fall birthday? Nope. June.   If you had one minute of fame, what would you do/say in the spotlight? Uhh. I think this would depend on the reason for the fame. Either way, I think I would not be all that articulate. (I actually might be in some newspapers in the near future, as part of a story about laptop seismometers. The Associated Press wants to take pictures of my computer in its "setup." This means I have to CLEAN MY DESK. AHHHH!)   What would you tell yourself 6 months in the past about 2008 so far? You are not going to explode. You are going to make it just fine. All the school things you hope will happen actually will.   Robots versus zombies: who wins? Robots. They don't have brains, so the zombies can't eat them. Metal is good for bashing in zombie brains. Therefore, robots win. (If the robots were Wall-E and EVE, though, they would be so adorable that the zombies would just plain forget themselves.)   What would zombie say? Uh, "Ciirrrrrrrrcuits"?   How many of mah fellow witchies play video games? Platform? Do you like used games? I've never owned a game console.   What kind of music (genres, please) do you like? Classical (particularly late 19th and early 20th century stuff), "Oldies," Javanese gamelan, bluegrass, mariachi, silly music   Have any of you ever received a book from a Witchy and loved it so much you ended up buying a copy for a later Witchee? This is my first ever SW round, so this has not had a chance to happen yet! But I will often give other people copies of books I received as gifts, if I think they will like the book.   What kinds of eye shadows do we all like? I don't wear it.   Do you like lip balm? If so, do you like tinted, glossy, sparkly, pearly or just plain lip balm? Just plain. No colors or sparkles, please. I wear it for the purpose of not having chapped and bleeding lips.   What are some of the SW gifts/finds from past rounds (or you can just name a gift in general that you found for someone if this is your first round!) that you are the most proud of in terms of your sleuthing skills? I guess it doesn't count as sleuthing, but I like to make things for people based on inside jokes we have. They don't expect it, and crack up immediately from both the surprise and the joke.   And, secondly, what is something you've been searching for but just can't find? Men's jeans with inseams shorter than 30 inches.   Favorite Halloween song? Overplayed though it is, I do love The Monster Mash.   What's the scariest thing that's ever happened to you? When I flipped my car off the freeway and rolled down an embankment. I didn't think I would make it until the car stopped moving.   Who here is a complete, over the top, Alice In Wonderland fanatic? I'm not an over-the-top fanatic for it, but I enjoyed the book when I read it. I should reread it, though; the last time was probably ten years ago!   Are you a Trekkie? If so, which series do you prefer? Do you have a favorite character? I've never even seen a full episode of any of the series straight through.   Do you have phobias? Heart disease, cancer, roads that are narrow and winding and unpaved and on the edges of cliffs (never mind that the road I actually fell of of was straight and paved and only raised by 15 feet)   How do you like your mix CDs? Random? Stuff you know you'll like? I like them to include songs I don't already have, but clearly no Witch is going to know every song I have! That said, I think a good rule of thumb for making mix CDs is to base them largely off what the recipient likes, but then throw in a few things that are further afield.   Would you rather get food or jewellery? Food, since the only item of jewelry I own is a woven black bracelet thingie from Indonesia, and I usually don't wear it.   Do you like children's toys, such as jacks, those little things you tilt around to get the ball in the right hold (wtf are those called?), the aforementioned caplet dinosaurs, cap guns, etc?: Caplet dinosaurs! So awesome! They would probably live on my desk and have epic battles, a la Wash from Firefly. Seriously, though, I don't really play with little kid toys anymore, and even if I did, the cats would probably steal them and hide them.   English candy/tea/marmite or other stuff that you love and can't easily get outside of England? English tea == yes plz. Marmite scares me a little, though. The teacher of the field geology class I took this spring is from England, and he tried to get everyone in the class to eat some marmite before the quarter was over. I wasn't sure whether or not I liked it, but I was not thrilled that it overpowered the avocado.   Fanfic as a gift* - yay or nay? Your fandom? Slash preferences?* I used to read and write Redwall fanfic, but that was ages ago. I don't really follow any fandoms seriously anymore, and have never been into slash, so it might be lost on me. Original fiction, however, is excellent.   Any beaders here? Need beading supplies? I don't bead.   Do you like making up your SW packages around a theme, or prefer to mix it all up? I'm not sure yet! I will see what my witchee's questionnaire inspires me to do.   Band-aids: do you like the fun and funky ones? Fortunately, I rarely need band aids. I have a box of them that will probably last me a good few years yet. They are the boring skin colored ones, though.   Livejournal? Username is dsch. I've been very lax about updating lately. It's friends-only, but I tend to add whoever asks.   How do people feel about receiving baked goods/kits to make said goods? Or other cooking items? I will never argue with the concept of free baked goods or food. As for kits and recipes, I am good with those, too, though the instructions will have to be kind of idiot-proof. I think my smoke detector gets secret evil glee out of going off when I cook. (I have not made actual flames in a long time, though. I am improving!)   Would you enjoy oil or vinegar flavored with herbs grown at home? Strange and exotic spices with recipes to try? Cookies made with carnation petals? Flavored oil and vinegar are excellent. Interesting spices are good, too, though as with above, recipes will need to be idiot-proof. I have never had a carnation petal cookie, so I don't know whether or not I like them, but I certainly wouldn't refuse one if offered.   What are your pet's names, and what are they named for? I have two one-year-old cats. Andreas is a classic tabby, black and sort of tan-gray, with a cream colored belly and amber eyes. Garlock is all black, with yellow eyes. Both are named after fault lines. The San Andreas runs through most of the length of California, marking the boundary between the Pacific and North American plates; it's responsible for, among others, the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Andreas the cat is far more benign - he is my big purring furmonster. The Garlock fault intersects the San Andreas near Gorman and cuts widthwise across the state, marking the northern boundary of the Mojave Desert and the southern end of the Sierra Nevada. It is not a very active fault, which makes sense for a very vert timid (read: he is the biggest coward on four paws, afraid of everything except me and Andreas) cat. Andreas and Garlock were born in my apartment, and are only two out of a litter of six. The other four were also named after faults, though their new owners may have changed that.   How do you scent yourself? Do you layer soaps, moisturizers, etc. or do you go straight to slathering your bod with BPAL? BPAL is pretty much the only scented stuff I use. I guess my handsoap and shampoo and stuff smell like something, but I didn't choose them for their scent, so they don't count. (Actually, the handsoap smells kind of gross, but it fades quickly.)   Do you/how do you scent your world? Candles, incense, diffusers, potpourri? None of the above? I've never really put any scent into my living space. I spray anti-pet-odor stuff around, but that doesn't have a smell in and of itself! I have been thinking about venturing unsteadily forth into the realm of scented room spray, though, to mask any residual eau de litterbox.   BPAL is such a scent-ual experience. What are your other tactile, aural, or olfactory pleasures (I was going to say, "And let's keep it clean", but what's the use fun in that?!?) Scent: I love the smell of coffee, though smelling it usually leads to me wanting to actually drink some. I will sometimes just sniff the bag of coffee beans, though. I also love the smell of woodsmoke, providing it is fireplace woodsmoke (or barbecue woodsmoke) and not entire-mountain-range-on-fire woodsmoke. Sound: I love music of many kinds. Generally, listening to music of my choosing makes me feel good. There are some particular pieces, like Mahler's Third Symphony, that never fail to cheer me up. In terms of nonmusical sound, purring is such a wonderful thing, and I fortunately get to hear it pretty often! Touch: My kitties are so soft and cuddly. I also like the sensation of using a nice pen to write (or draw) on nice paper. The fuzzy feeling of the inside of a brand new sweatshirt is also nice, even though it makes me reluctant to wash new sweatshirts. Oops!   If you drink coffee (and make it yourself) do you use a French Press, regular filter basket coffee maker, Espresso Machine, Percolator? I grind the beans as fine as they'll go (practically to a powder), then put them straight in the cup and pour water on top. The grounds sink to the bottom when stirred if the coffee is ready. According to the gamelan teacher at school, this is how they prepare coffee in Java, and I think it gives extra flavor (and extra caffeine) when compared to filtered coffee.   What movie soundtracks (or scores) do you love? All of the recent Pixar movie soundtracks (I thiiink Michael Gioacchino is responsible for most of those), much of Danny Elfman's work, the original Star Wars trilogy (John Williams has gone drastically downhill since then)...Funny thing is, I tend to notice bad soundtracks more than good ones, often because they stick out like a sore thumb, rather than blending in seamlessly with the overall effect of the film, like good soundtracks do.   What kind of indulgences do you really really want, but can't seem to make yourself buy? Maybe out of character, or a part of yourself you're busy denying? I have been eyeing the iPod touch for a while. (Well, actually, the iPhone, but I just had to replace my regular cell phone today, since the old one died spectacularly. I did not get an iPhone this time. The iPod touch does almost all the same things, though, just not the phone part.) I also admire the MacBook Pro from afar. But the fact stands that I do not need either of these, since my regular iPod and my regular MacBook (both acquired in 2006) work fine. I simply could not justify spending the money when I do not need these things on account of having entirely functional alternatives. I have also been looking at turn-of-the-20th-century/vaguely steampunky outfits online, but I'm sure I'll never add any of these things to my actual wardrobe. A lot of it is expense, but I've also never been one to focus a lot of attention on my clothes, or to spend a lot of money on them. It'd be very out of character for me to suddenly be spending a lot on such things.   My questionnaire is chock-a-block with ideas for Witching me on the cheap, and without sending "stuff for stuff's sake". And I just came up with another one--make me a Pandora, Finetune, or Last.fm station you think I might like! What manner of affordable Witchery might you covet? Homemade things are fantastic! Baked goods and other edible things are also great. I have never used Pandora, Last.fm., or Finetune, but were I to receive a playlist, I would figure out how those sites work! Mix CDs and used books are also great.   Does your cell phone have a place to attach charms? I just got a new cell phone. It has lots of little holes, though most of them look like places to plug things in. Of those that are not obvious plugs, I am suspecting they're speakers, since this is a music phone. So I would guess no on the place for charms.   Forum buddies? I haven't really been active here long enough to have gotten to know anyone really well yet. This is, in my book, an excellent reason for doing Switch Witch - getting to know more people.   What is your favorite art movement and/or style? ie impressionist, surrealist, art nouveau, etc. I really like art noveau/art deco/jugendstil, and other turn-of-the-20th-century shininess.   Do you have a case for your mp3 player/digital camera? If you would want one, what size is your digital device? I have a case for my digital camera, but not for my iPod. It's a black 30GB from early 2006, and it's so scratched up already that it would almost seem silly to put a protective case on it now. But hey, it survived being thrown through the back windshield of my car as it was rolling down a hill, so I am not irked by the scratches it received from that incident.   For tea drinkers, do you bag it or prefer loose? Either one is good! Though I'm currently without an infuser for loose leaf, since my cats broke the old one.   Does the weather change where you are, as in, does it get cold in the winter? Anyone need homegrown scarves, hats, mittens, etc? I live in southern California. We have four seasons: summer, fires, rain, and mudslides! Seriously, winter here generally means 60 degrees Fahrenheit during the day. It usually isn't even cloudy, though the clouds that do happen bring rain rather than snow. Because I'm basically in the desert, it can get into the 40s or sometimes the 30s at night. That said, if I end up doing fieldwork in the winter, I know it gets really cold in the mountains.   Are you planning on buying anything off your BPAL and/or other wishlists during the round? Nope.   Do you wear a watch? If so, what kind/style? I got out of the habit of doing so, since my cell phone has a clock and all.   How do you feel about having a donation made in your name to something? If you like that idea, what types of organizations/groups would you want the donation to go to? That'd be great! Animal adoption/care/advocacy is good (I volunteer for a group called TLC of the Inland Empire), as is autism awareness. Donations to natural disaster relief groups are also good, providing the group will actually use it for what they claim it's for.   If you could have dinner/drinks/coffee with any 3 living people that are not your family/friends already, who would they be? Hrmmmm. Michael Tilson-Thomas, Brad Bird, and John McPhee   Re: the Lilith Victoria scents . . . Honestly, though I love the concept of scents to celebrate the baby, none of them jumped out at me as must haves. Heck, I haven't tried regular Dorian or regular Snake Oil yet!   If you could bring back any TV show, what would it be? Firefly. Ayup.   I wonder if my witchee would like a blanket type thing. Would you? Blankets are awesome. I can't sleep without one, even if it's stupid hot in my apartment. Even if I try to sleep without it, I wake up and it's on again. With that in mind, if my witch is inclined to send blankets, lighter weight ones are better for the climate where I live. It seldom gets actually cold.   What's your favorite "I know it's bad for me but I can't help myself" treat? Ice cream. Though I have just discovered pumpkin spice Hershey's kisses, and they are also reeeeally dangerous.   What one (or two, if you really must) BPAL bottles are you most longing for? Hrm. I know it's only a matter of time before I buy bottles of Tombstone and Coyote.   What's your favorite animal? Hard question! Hm. Foxes, cats (of all sizes), pine martens, dogs (and wild canids), otters...   Funky chocolates? Definitely good, for the most part. I don't think I could bring myself to eat chocolate with meat in it.   Tarts? No ides.   Say, witches, I have a question about birthdays: do you expect/rely on other people to plan birthday outings and activities? I generally don't like to make a big deal about my birthday. Other people usually end up making it a bigger deal than I ever would have.   What think you about receiving tea accessories and/or miscellany (like mugs, cups, saucers, strainers/filters, honey, natural sweeteners [like stevia])? These are good things! Well, maybe not so much on the saucers, since I've never been in the habit of using one, but the rest of the things on this list are excellent.   Munsters or Addams Family, y'all? Addams Family!   What's your ringtone? An excerpt from an east Javanese gamelan piece. No chance of me confusing my ringtone with someone else's!   If you have pets, is there a SPECIFIC toy they like to play with; brand and size? Is there a treat/cookie they eat? What brand and size? Andreas and Garlock like catnip mice, just the regular cheap ones they have at PetSmart. They also loved these 9Lives yellow and orange rubber balls with sticky out bits. In terms of treats, they are surprisingly finicky, as they are total pigs about actual food. They seem to like Pounce pretty well.   Burned CDs/ DVDs / &c. Fine by me!   Pirates: ARR!   Dia de los Muertos: I don't know a huge amount about it, but it seems awesome enough that I really ought to learn more.   Nightmare before Christmas: It has been entirely too long since I last watched this, because it's awesome.   Sending melty stuff: It is still pretty darn hot here! Chocolate might liquefy, but oh well. Do not take this as a reason to not send chocolate! Odds are that the package would sit in the apartment office if I wasn't home to accept it anyway, and it's air conditioned in there. Melty should be fine.   If candy is sent, would you prefer small amounts to a Halloween sized bag? I...do not know how to answer this. Because if it is a big bag, I will eat all of it, which is probably not good for me, but will make me happy at the time.   Do you like floral bath soaps, shower gels, etc? I am not really into florals.   How do you feel about trinkets? I enjoy small silly things designed for the easily amused! Though they will probably end up getting lost on my desk sooner than later.   What do you think of Irrelevant Disturbing and Surreal Crawdad Dream? Love it? Hate it? Kicking yourself for not getting a bottle? I never tried it. I was intrigued, based on the name alone, but not enough to cough up the cash.   How do y'all feel about honey and maple? And different flavored honey, not just the standard kind? Excellent on all accounts!   Do you play a musical instrument? Long answer time! I play viola, violin, piano, tenor viol, recorder, guitarron, and many of the instruments in a Javanese gamelan. I also sing badly and compose decently.   Stance on Joss Whedon and his enterprises? Firefly and Dr. Horrible are the only Whedon things I've seen, and I like them both.   Has anyone tried ice wine before? Do/did they enjoy it? I've never tried it.   What other perfume companies (besides bpal) have you been curious about? I have never worn scent until finding BPAL, and haven't really looked into anything other than it. I received a freebie Possets decant in a forum order recently, so I looked at their site, and I admit to being intrigued by some of the States, but I haven't actually contemplated ordering. I plan on sticking to BPAL for now!   Does anyone here do anything with grave rubbings? Nope.   Would you enjoy art based on original Graveyard photography? I don't think now would be the best time for this for me. A close friend of mine died earlier this year, and I suspect it would make me think of her more, but not for the right reasons.   What's in your Netflix or Blockbuster queue, do you want any new Netflix/Blockbuster friends, if so how do we find you on there? I don't have a Netflix account or a Blockbuster queue.   Do you like Mystery Science Theater 3000? Have you tried out (and if not, would you be interested in doing so) its weird little brother, RiffTrax? I've only seen a couple of MST3Ks, but I thought they were funny. I've never even heard of RiffTrax before.   What will you like from Singapore? Candies? Food? Asian crafts/toys? I admittedly know very little about Singaporean products, but if my Witch happens to be over there, send something that is representative and cool? Also, I never ever object to candy.   What is everyone's "luck" item? I don't really have one. I can't bring myself to get rid of the key to the car I totaled, but that's not for the sake of warding off bad road luck, even though I have not had bad road luck since then.   Do you like art deco/nouveau - style prints? Yes! Particular appeal points if they also relate to music somehow.   What is one thing that, if you received it in the middle of all the hubbub, would make you smile and take your mind off of all you have to do for a bit? The mere concept of expecting something in the mail is making me smile! All the more so since I don't know what or when it will be.   How do you feel about Hello Kitty? Really not my thing.   What makes everyone stand out from the Switch Witch herd? Uhm. I can detect the word "earthquake" from across the room? I dunno. Maybe the number of instruments I can play.   If you are into the original Nintendo system, what 3 games would you want that you don't have? I never had a Nintendo.   What is your favorite category of the GC? At this point, I have not tried enough things to have an overwhelming favorite, but as I peruse the catalogue, the descriptions in the Wanderlust category jump out the most. Probably because I want to travel to all kinds of places.   What would a perfume based on me smell like? Jeez, I dunno! Rocks, coffee, books, and viola rosin.   Do you often drink take away coffee in paper mugs? Probably about once a week, more often during finals.   Blood Moon update? Despite the fact that the Blood Moon description uses the word "earthquake," I don't think I'll be ordering it, simply because a single word that is tangential to the meaning of the oil on the whole should not be the entire reason that I order something! Not that I didn't think about it... (Now, if it'd been an actual earthquake scent, that would've been a different story.)   How does everyone feel about really green gifties? I was thinking of giving my witchee some of my handy-dandy "paper" towels (hand-sized, washable muslin squares--kinda like ultra-cheapo cloth napkins) in a kitchen-friendly decorative box, but I didn't want to seem preachy ("Stop using paper towels, you environment destroyer!"). Would y'all use something like that? That'd be awesome.   What craft (or crafts) have you been wanting to try but have no idea where to start? I don't know if it really counts as crafty, but I would like to try doing some animation. I draw a lot, and I'd like to see if I could make those drawings move. I haven't the foggiest idea of how to get started with that, though.   Would you appreciate some tunes in future packages? And if so, do you care if you get any CDs or mp3s you might have all ready? Or would you be able to find a way to post a list of things you're (a) looking for, or ( b ) all ready have? Tunes are good! I do not object to receiving things I already have, though, of course, new things are exciting. I admittedly do not have a list of things that I already have on the internet, but I will think about making one.   Polish goodies! Who wants them? Baked goods, candies, kielbasa, pirogies, magazines, you name it? The edible goodies would be a good thing! Magazines not so much, since I don't speak/read Polish and would therefore be left confused.   How do you avoid popping an item for yourself into an order you're placing for your witchie? I remind myself very firmly of my financial status (ie largely broke grad student). I also try to go to places or use search terms that rule out some things I would personally want.   Underpants? Do you like them? What's your style? Size? I wear them! I would probably be a bit weirded out to receive some from someone I don't know, though.   BPTP Room Sprays...your thoughts? I haven't tried any of them. They were all sitting there at Will Call, and I looked at them, but did not actually sniff, and I'm not sure why.   Would you like to receive baked goods from your Witch? And if so, are there things you WOULDN'T like? Baked goods are always welcome! Though not ones with cherries, because I'm allergic to cherries.   Tea? I have not met a flavor of tea I didn't like. Any tea would be most welcome, whether a classic flavor (I've always loved Earl Grey) or something unusual/hard to find. My current tea stash ranges from Lapsang Souchong to Darjeeling to genmaicha to peony white, among others.   I made a mess the other day trying to put ketchup on a hot dog. I could've just wiped the ketchip on the forum!   What sort of (makeup) colors do you currently wear? Do you want to branch outside that? What would you like to try? I don't wear any.   About incense: do you like sticks or lose incense? Incense and my allergies don't really play well together. Even if they did, I suspect my cats would cause problems with the incense anyway.   What's everyone's favorite fairytale and what are your favorite versions of it? When I was little, there was this picture book of a Russian fairy tale called "Little Sister and the Month Brothers" that I absolutely adored. I don't know who did the illustrations, and I don't even remember the details of the story, but it involved this little girl coming upon a meeting of people who were the personifications of the twelve months of the year. Looking back now, I am sure this partly influenced my own graphic novel involving personified days of the year, even though I wasn't thinking of The Month Brothers when I started work on my project.   So how many imps/decants is officially 'you have gone overboard and your Witchee is going to expire from scent overload'? This question is making me worry that I haven't included enough!   Who needs a recipe box? Not I.   ANYONE ELSE want a home-made cookbook? If it is a fairly idiot-proof cookbook geared toward someone with simple kitchen tools, that would be fantastic!   Favorite cartoons or animated films? So far, I have adored every single Pixar film. As far as I can tell, they can do no wrong, and they are concrete proof that animation is an art in and of itself, rather than just a storytelling medium. I am soooo excited by the prospect of them possibly doing effects for that 1906 earthquake movie... I also like the Shrek trilogy, The Triplets of Belleville, and some of the older Disney movies. I was completely obsessed with Oliver and Company when I was three. As for TV shows, stuff like Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Histeria, and Freakazoid were favorites. I also liked The Magic School Bus; I was a PBS kid!   Your take on the election? In other words, would you enjoy campaign related gifts, or prefer to stay neutral? I am absolutely without a question voting for Obama, but I think I'd like to keep politics out of fun/recreational activities for now. Maybe that's residual from growing up in DC - politics is srs bzness, but also crazy-making.   Villians you sympathise with? I tend to not sympathize with the villain, even if I find that villain to be an interesting character. I have this gut feeling that sympathizing with the villain, no matter how fictional, makes me a less-than-good person, and then I'd feel all guilty and weird.   Your stance on the all important peanut butter issue: crunchy? creamy? allergic? chocolate? maple? go directly to nuttella, do not pass go? Peanut butter of all types is good. Nutella is fantastic.   Who here likes to read historical fiction? If you do, what eras/people/countries intrigue you the most? In the rare event that I have time to read fiction, I do enjoy historical fiction very much. I particularly enjoy stuff set at the turn of the 20th century in general (though, in terms of actual history, I know more about the US and Europe than I know about the rest of the world), and also American Civil War stuff.   Dried fruit? Yes! This is a good thing, just so long as it is not cherries. I'm allergic to cherries. Apples are fantastic.   What kind of tea (or coffee) puts you in a fall/Halloween mood? And where do you get it? In terms of coffee, I'm going to have to go with pumpkin spice lattes, though I think I'd drink these year round if they were available. Pumpkin is one of my favorite flavors! I just know it's fall when I start being able to get pumpkin stuff. The ones at Starbucks are good, but there are some local coffee places around here that have better ones. As for tea, hrm. I guess fall is when I start drinking tea hot instead of iced! I don't have anything explicitly autumnal, though I guess the smoky aspect of Lapsang Souchong sort of counts. But again, that's a tea I'd drink much more often if I knew where I could get a regular supply. Also, hot spiced apple cider. Haven't found any around yet, which makes me sad.   Are you interested in Tarot cards? And if so, are there particular decks you like (or don't or already have or whatever)? I know next to nothing about this. I've never had a reading done, and certainly couldn't do one myself. If I were given a deck, I would probably admire the artwork, but have no idea what to do from there.   Betty Page? I had to look up who this is. Aheh. That said, I'm not into pinups.   Star Trek? I've never even seen an entire episode of any of the incarnations of this show. (Shocking, I know!)   Apple butter? YES PLZ NOM NOM NOM.   Villainess Retrograde? Sounds awesome, until it gets to the part about the flowers. I am wary of the flowers. But holy crud, there's a lapsang souchong soap? Whoa. Now that is tempting.   Lush? Never tried anything of theirs.   Maple? One of my very favorite flavors! (My cats seem to agree, when it comes to maple yogurt. They always try to steal it.)   Gold vs silver vs copper vs brass etc? Well, I know who isn't my witch now, since I know I answered that question as "makes no difference to me, since I don't wear jewelry." For what it's worth, I've had silver glasses frames and copper-ish-brown-ish glasses frames in the past, but never gold ones.   One BPAL only forever and ever? Even for a n00b such as myself, that's a hard question. The variety of the catalogue is one of the things that makes BPAL really cool. I'd be really hard pressed to pick between Tombstone and Coyote, but I'm leaning toward Tombstone, if only because I'm wearing that right now and I love it.   Halloween costume? I'm going as the anthropomorphic personification of the Hayward Fault. Earlier this year, I drew a whole bunch of characters who are personified fault lines, and a few friends and I are going as a handful of them. Because we are nerds.

The Mock Turtle's Lessons

Category: The Mad Tea Party   So this is the apple note...yummy. I definitely detect that the most, as well as the mint, and a hint of lime, both of which add a coolness and freshness to the candylike sweetness of the apple. (At least, from a distance; when I come in close for a sniff, the tartness of both notes asserts itself and indeed gives a mischeivous and contrary jolt to my nose.) It truly is wet and aquatic, but in an...alcoholic sort of way. In fact, looking at the notes, it sounds like it would make for a really good cocktail. Gotta try that, sometime.   It lasted all day, and had a pretty decent throw. I found myself sniffing my wrist quite a lot with this one. I think I'll hang onto it for a while.

Loralei

Category: Ars Amatoria   This is a very pleasant, mellow floral that is nicely balanced by the neroli. It has a very slight bit of warmth to it. It has staying power, but I didn't detect all that much throw out of it. I feel it could possibly be a good 'crossover' scent for people who don't usually like florals, as the other notes keep it from getting too sweet or overpowering. Unfortunately, it just doesn't have enough kick to qualify as a favorite for me.

Succubus

Category: Ars Amatoria   I mostly get very sweet mimosa, resting on a solid foundation of bergamot. It's quite lovely and sweet, and has decent staying power, but I don't get much in the way of throw. Personally, I like Eris better as a perfume with the mimosa note.

Switch Witch Questions & my answers: part the 3rd

...And some more! See, I'm doing it   Do you have phobias? I 'm phobic of dead fish, especially when it's served as food. Same for seafood in general. Prawns really freak me out. I'm not phobic of live sea creature, just dead ones on plates! I used to fear spiders but am now pleased to see them as long as they do not sneak up on me like one did this evening! (A huge one, too. But kind of cute in a spidery sort of way )   How do you like your mix CDs? Random? Stuff you know you'll like? I'm too anti-competent with technology to even know how to make a mix CD But if it helps, I prefer my playlists to cover one category at a time, e.g. I would never mix jazz with classical on the same playlist. Is that even a sensible answer to the question? *feels sort of dopey*   Would you rather get food or jewellery? Unfair question! How am I supposed to choose between the shiny and the yummy?!   Do you like children's toys, such as jacks, those little things you tilt around to get the ball in the right hold (wtf are those called?), the aforementioned caplet dinosaurs, cap guns, etc?: Children's toys in general - no. But, I would  a wooden or metal puzzle toy like pretty much any of the ones shown *here*. Or a tactile/sensory stimulation/fidget toy, e.g. tangle toys, (I'm an Aspie, and a bit of a texturephile )   Fanfic as a gift* - yay or nay? Your fandom? Slash preferences?*well, a virtual gift obviously. You know what I mean. Fanfic? Yay! Halloween-themed fanfic? Extra double triple yay! My fandoms are Harry Potter, Good Omens, Hellblazer, Brimstone, and one or two rarer ones. I love slash. I don't read non-con/rape stuff, but pretty much anything else goes   Any beaders here? Need beading supplies? I'm trying to learn beading, but am still kind of crappy at it. I'm very new to it and haven't even got the most basic supplies. I would welcome absolutely anything my witch might send me for this. Note: when I say I don't have the basics, I mean stuff like headpins, findings, wire, beading thread, calottes, crimp beads & covers... you know, all the essential stuff. Because I just bought myself a load of the shiny beads and forgot that I needed stuff to fix them together Um. Bad me. I also don't have crimping pliers, although since I don't have crimps either... Oh, you get the idea!   Do you knit/crochet? Do you need any supplies? I attempt to knit. Um, I could use some pretty yarn (anything from dk to chunky). Even 1/3 of a ball or less would be useful for my little projects, if my witch wants to get rid of leftovers! I already have stitch markers that I don't use, so don't need any more of those. Pretty buttons/sew on sparkly gem things/sequins etc. would be lovely.   What kinds of eye shadows do we all like? None. I don't do make-up. At all. Ever. Please, don't send me any - I won't be able to use it.   Do you like lip balm? If so, do you like tinted, glossy, sparkly, pearly or just plain lip balm? Okay, lip balm is *love*. I much prefer plain, medicated, or lightly tinted. Glossy is okay, but I wouldn't pick it or myself. Sparkly or pearly I just won't use, because it then counts as make-up!
