torikitty Report post Posted February 5, 2018 Fickle Fortune A hymn to propitiate the gods of misfortune and honor the balance of forces in the universe: vetiver, patchouli, and black clove. I'm surprised more clove lovers didn't jump on this one. The vetiver makes it dry and dark, with the patchouli adding a hint of sex appeal. Man, this lasts really long, too. Really decent throw, too. A little really goes a long way. I'm on the fence because this feels like it sits perfectly between masculine and feminine. I could say unisex, but I don't think it's as clean as the typical unisex fragrances. I'd say that, depending on your mood for the day, and what you wear, you could push this in either direction. I can also see this being a nice base to mix other things with. I put a sweet lotion over top, and that smelled great!
zankoku_zen Report post Posted February 14, 2018 Dark sexy clove. It's clove with enough patchouli to add a 'dirt' base to it. Very sexy and wearable. Good throw and wear length.
cassiejaynebunk Report post Posted February 14, 2018 I thought i reviewed this, but i guess not! this one is great! it's Goth Queen (which is my all time favorite bpal) minus the absinthe. I freaking love this one. I can't wait to see what aging does to it. mmmmm off to buy some more!
Lucchesa Report post Posted February 20, 2018 Great -- I'm in love with misfortune. I do seem to be all over the clove scents lately. But it's snowing outside, and clove is such a gorgeous deep rich warming winter note. Here it's in perfect balance with a deep rich warming vetiver and an earthy patchouli, either of which note can be too much for me on occasion, but they are in such perfect accord and alignment, which complements Beth's scent description exactly: to honor the balance of forces in the universe. I may need to honor them (and propitiate the gods of misfortune) by buying a whole bottle.
theseagrows Report post Posted March 5, 2018 received this as a frimp. right off i get dirt and dryish melon....i think it's veviter and patchouli though. there is a slight sweetness, not sure what it is. the clove also comes out quickly- a slight spiciness. it's an earthy, dry, spicy scent, mostly vetiver and clove on me. Blood onmy hands Report post Posted March 7, 2018 Fortuna Mala is simple and enjoyable to me. The vetiver isn't that charred, smoky bbq variety, and it melds into the patchouli to form a dry, warm, earthy scent that makes me think of dried out potting soil and dead grass. It smells like a dry black patchouli. Earthy and dry, lightly sweet, with the clove coming out more and more in the drydown. It's a sweet, spicy, warm clove that isn't turning to cinnamon on me (a lot of bpal's latest clove blends read more as cinnamon on me for some reason). An hour in, a smokiness has curled up from the scent, and it reminds me of smoky clove cigarettes and spicy dead leaves over an earthy base. Strong on me for about three hours and then fades quickly after that. If I hadn't recently stocked up on tons of clove oils from various companies, I might consider a full bottle of this one.
