Milk Chocolate, Cacao Cream, Ceylon Cinnamon, and Coffee Absolute

Recommended Posts

[No additional description provided.]

In The Bottle: Cacao, earthy cinnamon, and dry coffee (the coffee husks of Pinched With Four Aces, if you're wondering!)

Wet On Skin: A glorious melding of the above. This is proving to be a surprisingly "dry" and "adult" version of these notes- this is grownup stuff, not Easter kids' candy.

Dry Down: The powdery aspect of the cacao mixed with the cinnamon is calling to mind the lovely cassia aspect of Monsterbait: Underbed and I love it just as much here as I did in that scent. This is only slightly sweet, very sophisticated and eminently wearable. I am seriously in love with this!

In All: Another Chocolate selection from this year's Box that is absolutely hoard-worthy!

When I first opened this bottle, I literally wanted to drink it, it's that good. It smells exactly like it's described. That night, as I lie in bed, I was dreaming about making a chocolate cake just like this, and instead of water use coffee, put a pinch of cinnamon in it, then when it's done, drizzle some white cocoa. I digress...so this is a nice chocolately scent, but not too sweet.

Cinnamon and cocoa in the bottle, which continue to cycle on application and as it dries. There's a brief flash of creaminess, and then it's back to cinnamon cocoa. It's dry and powdery (not in a bad way — not "baby powder," but dry cinnammon powder and dry cocoa powder). Almost identical to El Dia de los Reyes, so if you like that, get this. Not getting any coffee, however.

I held off on buying a bottle of El Dia de los Reyes - which I love - when the Lupers went live in the hopes that this scent would be similar. Pleased to say I'm not disappointed. El Dia is a bit more cinnamon-rich whereas this one is a bit creamier. I don't think I'd be able to tell them apart if they weren't side by side.

Edit: Currently retesting this one during the pre-order struggle. I keep catching whiffs of the coffee absolute note in MCCCCCCA (heh), which smells lovely when I put my nose to my wrist and sniff it with all the other notes. Unfortunately, on its own it keeps tricking me into thinking I've got an abandoned cup of the stuff lurking around my desk somewhere. Sorry Macaw, but I'm going to have to go with El Dia.

On the upside, it did trigger me into tidying up my desk.

No cream or coffee, and only a whiff of chocolate for the first 15-20 minutes. This is a really loud, sharp, heavy, intense cinnamon. It reminds me of a more cinnamon-infused El Dia de los Reyes, which was already too strong on the cinnamon for me. I'm really disappointed in the chocolate box scents this year :(

This started as a promising coffee, cinnamon, and dark chocolate blend that has devolved into a cardamom, cocoa powder, POWDER and plastic. The cocoa cream definitely has turned on my skin. I'm giving this a hard pass. And I am sad sad sad.

Got a decant of this. Sniffing, I too get the initial El Dia Los Reyes relative. :) I agree that it is a bit softer and cremier than El Dia.

On my skin, it softens up even more. I too detect something a little plastic-y. I get a teeny hint of coffee and the caco cream. No cinnamon...if there is chocolate there. I am not detecting that either. It is nice but light. Glad I just got a decant because I am not sure I would end up wearing this.

This is by far my favorite of this years chocolates. In the bottle it's thick, boozy milk chocolate, with an undertone that makes me think of ripe, sweet bananas. The cinnamon in this is very slight, as is the coffee, much less than El Dia De Los Reyes.

Foodie smells always go a little fakey on my skin, but this is still pretty nice on me. Still very chocolaty with almost a coconut under currant. Bananas? Coconut? I dunno what note is reading wonky, but I like it. If you're a fan of Bliss, this will probably make you drool.

I take risks on anything that has a coffee note, so naturally I was going to pick this one up. Cocoa/chocolate notes almost always turn to plastic on me so it was interesting to see how this went.

I get mostly cinnamon and milk chocolate as I'm applying, but I do get a whiff of the coffee absolute. As it's drying more and more of the cacao cream comes out and I see less of the coffee absolute *sadface*. It ends up as a chocolate-cinnamon-cream skin musk on me, which I don't totally hate.

The chocolate notes don't turn to plastic on me, which is a plus! I can see keeping my decant around, but can't see myself reaching for this too often.

In the bottle: Rich, thick, creamy chocolate. Mmmmmm.

Wet on my skin: Rich, thick, creamy chocolate with a dash of cinnamon. Dry, spicy cinnamon.

Dry: This, like the other chocolates, is gorgeous and I love it so much. It's thick, rich, creamy chocolate front and center, with a kick of spicy cinnamon and a little bit of coffee that comes out and darkens the scent a little as it dries. I feel it important to note that the cinnamon in this is like a fresh cinnamon stick, dry and spicy and not like sweet red-hots cinnamon. If you made the best, richest, creamiest Ghirardelli hot chocolate with whole milk and a half-shot of espresso, and stirred it with a cinnamon stick, that's how this tastes. It's amazing and delicious, and I would eat an entire box of chocolates in one sitting if they tasted how this smelled.

Mmmm, yum yum yum yum yum!!! Because of a move, and my shipment arriving right in the middle of it, this set of Lupers and Yules got to sit around and age for a couple of months before I broke into them. This is taking me right back to chilly winter nights and I love it. Chocolate is so iffy with me - sometimes goes all 'feet' on my skin - but this is delish. Not a lot of coffee here, but I love the blend none the less.

Where I'd wear this: To watch the Nutcracker in a cozy scarf.
