thekittenkat Report post Posted February 4, 2010 (edited) White chocolate, strawberry, and white pepper truffle. This is a bit different from last year's White Chocolate and Strawberry. The chocolate last year was more like a milk chocolate; this year's version is certainly the sweeter, less of the cocoa, white chocolate. The strawberry is not the same, either. I got more of a fresh strawberry note in WC&S; the strawberry in WC,S&WPT is more of a candied strawberry--still quite yummy, but more foodie and not so fruity. The white pepper is a nuance that keeps the truffle from becoming too overly sweet. However, this is still a wonderful perfume, although I don't think that I will hoard it like I did WC&S; but at least one back-up bottle will be required. edenssixthday Report post Posted February 11, 2010 White Chocolate, Strawberry, and White Pepper Truffle - When I open the bottle, the first thing I smell is ultra-sweet strawberry sauce. Behind that, I smell the white chocolate. Where's the pepper? The strawberry is not the typical BPAL strawberry. If you're familiar with Isle of Eden's strawberry note, that's more of a sweet strawberry sauce -- the type served on pancakes or funnel cakes -- that's what this is like. It's DELICIOUS and I wish I could drink this bottle of BPAL. (There are a few other bottles from this update that smell like they'd taste delicious if they were really food or drinks!) On my skin, the white chocolate comes out even stronger than it does in the bottle. The strawberry and white chocolate are super sweet (and again, where's the pepper?) and gooey and sticky on my skin. Mmmm.... nom nom nom! Sadly, after about 30 minutes, it starts to take on a weird plasticky/dusty smell, which for me, is par for the course when it comes to foody blends. This is another one for the oil burner and the scent locket. If you're a sugary-sweets "foody" type, I think you'll love this. Mmmm!
angelicruin Report post Posted February 14, 2010 Mmmm, this is yummy smelling. I'll agree with the description of the strawberry note being more like strawberry sauce, than actual strawberry. White chocolate layers with it very nicely. It's little spicy smelling to me and maybe that's the white pepper effect. Yes, definitely a must try for the foody scent lovers, like myself. reynardine Report post Posted February 18, 2010 In decant: creamy strawberry? Wet: Yes, getting a LOT of strawberry here, very strong. A little pepper. Drydown: Getting the creamy white chocolate now. The strawberry dominates. It’s a sugary smell, more like candy than fresh-picked. Later: this settled down into something absolutely huffable. Will do a second test, but I think I’ll be getting a bottle of this one.
MerriAnneStowe Report post Posted February 19, 2010 On me, the strawberry note of the white chocolate, strawberry, and white pepper truffle dominated. I could detect the white chocolate in the background, but never managed to pick out the white pepper. As others have mentioned, the strawberry isn't so much a fresh-fruit strawberry as it is strawberry jam or strawberry candy (like a hard candy). The scent lasted for hours, but the strawberry seemed to get more and more plastic-y smelling as time went one. My overall assessment of this scent is "meh". I'm disappointed. AmandaArcana Report post Posted February 19, 2010 This is a little different than last years blend... the strawberry is less 'in your face candy' and the white pepper adds a spicy note and tones down the uber-sweetness. I actually like this blend better than the first. It also seems to last a little longer on me than last years.
opticnerd Report post Posted February 21, 2010 This is sooo much nicer than last year's White Chocolate and Strawberry blend. And I liked that blend a lot! This one just seems fresher, more delicate and blends together oh so well. The white chocolate note itself seems to be different- less chocolaty, and less waxy. Its more of a subtle sweet cream and sugar kind of note. The strawberry is a fresh, sweet juicy strawberry and is not candy-ish or fake. The pepper comes in to add a little more crispness and complexity to the blend, keeping it from being insanely foody. This is yummy and I will be plotting a bottle of it. I could see myself wearing this a lot!
Caerphilly Report post Posted February 21, 2010 In the bottle: Strawberries. Fresh strawberries. With a bit of cream. The White chocolate smells more like cream than chocolate. Wet: Strawberries. And a tiny bit of cream. Dry: Just a bowl of fresh strawberries. Overall: I like this one much better than the other white chocolate truffle this year. Not as artificial smelling. A simple strawberries and cream scent! I was hoping for more of the white pepper, but it's delicious smelling anyway.
Saya Report post Posted February 22, 2010 The strawberry in this is more of a candy strawberry as opposed to a fresh strawberry. Very sweet, very creamy, almost reminiscent of strawberry milk. At first I get a touch of the pepper, but it quickly fades away. The throw is incredible and the staying power is amazing. It's been about 12 hours and it's still going strong. I like the blend, but I have the White Chocolate and Strawberry blend from last year and it's way too similar to justify getting a bottle of this blend. prunesnprisms Report post Posted February 22, 2010 On me, it's a perfect mimicry of one of my favorite Godiva chocolate, all candy strawberry with a creaminess. I've smelled this before but not on me, and I love it. Wearlength was pretty short. I'll buy a bottle of this.
captainecchi Report post Posted February 22, 2010 I received this decant in Lycanthrope's Miskatonic Valentine decant circle. This is all chocolate and strawberry on me - the chocolate note is more subtle than other BPAL chocolates, and the strawberry reminds me of dried strawberries. The white pepper doesn't seem noticeable. I was amazed by the staying power of this blend, as fruity smells don't usually last on me, but I could still smell strawberries 12 hours later with this one. Verdict: You have to really like strawberries to wear this all day. I'm fond of it, but I'll be interested to see how often I reach for it through spring and summer. Poenari Report post Posted February 23, 2010 Sour strawberry jolly ranchers with a touch of chocolate. And sour enough on my skin that I had to wash it off. I don't know if it was the strawberry or the white pepper, but it has the same sour note from Milk Moon that I couldn't stand.
childoftime Report post Posted February 24, 2010 I think the confusion about whether the strawberry is fresh or candied in this blend is actually coming from the sweet creaminess of the white chocolate, which is really well-blended here. In the bottle it smelled candyish, but once it's out of the bottle, the strawberry note is the smell of the bowl of freshly-cut strawberries that you sprinkled sugar on and left in the fridge for an hour before taking out and sniffing (right before you dump them on your shortcake and devour. Wet, this was a little bit of strawberry, a bit more cream, and a ton of spicy white pepper. When it started to dry, the pepper backed off quite quickly, leaving a bit of a bite to mingle with the scent of fresh, sweet strawberry and sugary creamy fresh white chocolate. This is the best chocolate scent I've even worn. Just amazing. Dry, this is fresh, cool fruit; sweet, creamy white chocolate; and warm, spicy pepper around the edges. I may need a backup bottle of this.
Blood onmy hands Report post Posted February 27, 2010 (edited) I get the same fresh strawberry note from this that I did from last year's White Chocolate & Strawberry. It's like a tart, juicy, sweet strawberry rather than sickly-sweet, candied strawberry. I wasn't sure how the white pepper note would work for me, but it smells like cinnamon on my skin. When I first put this on, it smells like strawberry, creamy sweetness, and a shaving of red hots cinnamon candies. As it dries down, it's sweet strawberry and the spice smells almost incensey and sensual on my skin. While last year's White Choco & Strawberry is sweet, innocent, and playful, this year's spicy version has a sexy edge to it. I lovelovelove the strawberry note; it's so realistic. I would probably get a couple bottles of this if not for the fact that I already have five bottles of last year's version (one of my very favorite scents). I probably won't wear the spicy version as much as the original (I'll be keeping my decant, though). Still, this is definitely a gorgeous strawberry scent . Gin Report post Posted February 28, 2010 White Chocolate, Strawberry, and White Pepper Truffle - Last year's White Chocolate and Strawberries is one of my favorite BPALs of All Time. I was heistant to order this one because I wasn't sure I'd like the addition of pepper. On my skin, though, the pepper reads just as a warm spice, adding a bit of oomph to the blend. I don't think I like this one as much as last year's WC&S, because I loved its cavity-inducing sweetness, but I still like this one very much. I'll keep the bottle but won't need multiples. TheIceMaiden Report post Posted March 1, 2010 I don't have much to add to the reviews - this is lots of cream and a little sweet, candied strawberry (or strawberry jam) with just a tiny sprinkle of white pepper. I like the pepper note in this as it balances out all the sweetness. This is quite different from last year's, which was (to me) more like a fresh ripe strawberry dipped in a very thin coating of white chocolate. But I do like them both. kohimame Report post Posted March 5, 2010 I feel like I'm just rehashing everyone's reviews, but whatever! White Chocolate, Strawberry, and White Pepper Truffle smells exactly like the name. In the imp and on my skin, wet and dry, it smells like white chocolate with strawberry extract, with a punch of pepper to keep it from being too totally sweet. There's a slight plastic edge to it that reminds me of those weird scratch and sniff stickers I used to buy, specifically the Strawberry Shortcake ones. It's a nice scent, a bit much for everyday wear though. I think if the white pepper had come out more I'd be more willing to wear it. I'll definitely hang onto the decant though. BuxomM Report post Posted March 5, 2010 On me,it smells like fake plastic strawberries and sweet spicy white pepper. Strawberry tends not to like me.
fairestrocza Report post Posted March 6, 2010 In the Bottle: chocolate and strawberries and chocolate Wet on Skin: chocolate and creamy strawberry While Drying: Maybe the barest hint of white pepper, but ultimately, this smells just like a strawberry filled chocolate candy… ahh, now the pepper is coming through a touch. I'm impressed that this actually smells like a truffle, and not just chocolate and strawberry notes... there is an almost boozy note underneath it all that I associate with boxed chocolates. After a Little While: The pepper picks up and adds a bit of complexity to what might otherwise be a somewhat boring scent. This does not seem like a white chocolate (this is a good thing - I hate white chocolate - it has no business calling itself chocolate if it isn't made with cocoa)… this seems a bit richer. Good throw, especially the chocolate note. Later: I'm really liking the interplay between the notes in this one. Very well balanced on my skin. After many hours, the throw eventually changes to a skin-close scent, sweet and yummy. Final Thoughts: This bottle rode along for a friend in a recent order of mine. I had little interest, but asked if I could try it just for the sake of exploration. I like this a lot more than I expected I would. I'm not sure how many chocolate scents I actually need in my collection… If I thought I'd wear chocolate frequently, I'd consider getting a bottle of this one. In fact, the longer this is on my skin, the more that bottle looks tempting... Final, Final Thoughts: Ah, hell. I think this is going on the bottle list. I wore it again today, and can actually see myself wearing this semi-frequently. The white pepper is enough to make this more than just a chocolate scent. My skin loves this one. My nose loves this one. The Boy loves this one. White Chocolate, Strawberry, and White Pepper Truffle earns a 4.5/5 on my skin.
hlemonds Report post Posted March 6, 2010 This makes me want to NOM my own arm. For the record, i am not really a "foody" type gal. But this scent makes me want to LICK myself. It is utterly delectable! Sweeeet strawberries (on me, definitely a strawberry jam or candy, not a tart fresh strawberry) and just a hint of the white pepper manifesting as a tingle in my nose. I'm not necessarily getting the chocolate as a separate note, it's probably what is making the strawberry more of a candy than a fresh fruit. I really, really like this! DH, upon sniffing, declares this scent "Porn-a-rific". I raise my eyebrows in question.....DH replies, "You know, it smells like one of those edible scented candy body powders or lotions or something!" Oh, i see. I think this was intended as a compliment.... Pretty decent throw on this one, at least in the early stages. I've only dabbed on a tiny bit from the lid, and i can smell it without huffing my arm. beachbabealways Report post Posted March 7, 2010 This is a lot better than last years White Chocolate & Strawberry. I think the addition of pepper tames the scent so that it's not sickly sweet. Hey I love sweet foody scents but last years was just way over the top for me. This years version with the added pepper is sooo smooth and very soft on my skin. I like this version a lot and I'm so glad I bought a bottle.
musichappens Report post Posted March 9, 2010 (edited) Upon initial application I got a strong whiff of the white chocolate, but that turned into juicy strawberries real fast. The strawberry scent was really nice while it lasted before it turned into a mixture of white chocolate and pepper. I have a sinking suspicion that my skin doesn't like anything with a white chocolate note. Edited March 9, 2010 by musichappens
pinkstardust420 Report post Posted March 9, 2010 No shockers here. Only, I smell no white pepper. At all. I find this to be a sweeter, more overpowering (in a good way) strawberry note. White chocolate takes a back seat in this blend. Nice, but nothing that has me jumping out of my seat.
fieryredhead Report post Posted March 9, 2010 I agree that the pepper brings back the major sweetness of the '09 version (which I still liked) to a smoother scent. Hubby thought the '09 version was way too sweet but he liked this one. Glad I have a bottle of it!
CiaoBonefish Report post Posted March 9, 2010 (edited) This smells like strawberry jam initially, though not as sticky or as sweet. I'm not getting anything distinctly chocolatey, but there is a kind of creaminess to it. On my skin the creaminess comes out a bit more without having much of an actual scent to it. I can't detect pepper but I have a feeling it is keeping the strawberry and white chocolate from being overly sweet. The pepper becomes slightly stronger and I'm getting an almost watery feel to the chocolate. Hmm. While drying this is light strawberry jam with a hint of creaminess and some watery pepper thrown in. Gah. Just not liking this pepper combination thrown in. I understand how it works for some people, but the pepper becomes too prominent for my taste. A little while after drydown the chocolate comes out more and the strawberry recedes somewhat. Hmm. Wow. This is really becoming pretty now. The pepper has integrated itself really well into the blend balancing out the strawberry and white chocolate. On second thought this smells like a creamier Beaver Moon 07 on me with a dash of pepper. I initially thought I liked this less than White Chocolate, Black Raspberry, and Apricot Cordial Truffle, but now I am not so sure. Not sure if it is bottle worthy, but gee I'm really starting to like it now! Edit: Yep this is my favorite truffle of the box!
