Help Scenting Some Characters

Recommended Posts

Hello loves!

I am new to the forums, stumbled upon this beaut of a section and had a loverly, mad idea. I am extremely driven by the olfactory and also happen to have some script writing jobs and acting gigs in my personal queue. Thus- I would LOVE it if y'all could give me some recommendations (from the preexisting catalogue OR from your imaginations) for character based smells. I provide the descriptions, and if y'all would be so kind, provide das smells! If it works out, I shall add my other projects but this time around, I'm starting out with my current baby- McAvoy.

The genre is action/horror, an hourlong episodic. Based around the adventures of a 20-something supernatural "maintenance worker" and her motley crew of misfits. The goal? Maintain the balance of good and evil, prevent human casualties. Elements of Catholicism and Celtic shamanism play.

SCENTS:

- JESSICA: The titular character. 20s. Tomboy. Dark haired and laconic, sensual and vehemently opposed to anything girly. A natural in every sense of the word, she is equal parts babe, bro and badass. Her drink is whiskey, her t-shirts are well worn and her backbone is steel. Loyal, gruff, warm and brave.

- CHLOE: The heart of the operation. 20s. The human equivalent of a cupcake. Brains and beauty wrapped up in a cardigan. As girly as Jess isn't, she's got a closet that rivals Carrie Bradshaw. Jess' long suffering roommate, she exudes confidence and kindness, as well as the spirit of a humanitarian.

- KINDRED: AKA "The World's Least Helpful Familiar" Gifted to Jess by an overly helpful demon. Taking the form of a man, he drinks, he smokes, he fucks anything vaguely symmetrical and human-esque. The countenance of a lush, but ultimately the heart of a lion. Is loyal to Jess and Jess alone (not by choice but by design). Snarky, sexy and sarcastic to the core. (NOTE: should ideally share one or two notes in common with JESSICA and SHAX)

- TIR: A former Zoroastrian god, now displaced. Soulful, intense and deeply troubled. Warming slowly to the notion of becoming friends with the strange bedfellows he's fallen in with. Regal, beautiful. A former warrior who has recently hung up his long standing decree of pacifism to assist McAvoy. Controls all things water and rain.

- TIERNEY: The reluctant member of the Boston PD assigned to act as touchstone to the "Freaky Fucking Division" AKA Jess' legal handler. A tough South Boston Irish Catholic who lapsed in adulthood. Plays hard, works harder. A skeptic. Has a file somewhere filled with excessive force complaints.

- SHAX: A sexy, silky-tongued demon with major boundary issues. Plays in the human world, rules over certain segments of hell. Lives to cause ordered chaos and give Jess a headache. If he had a theme song, it would be Sympathy for the Devil. Expensive looking. Kindred's technical creator, though they have a serious antipathy for one another. (NOTE: jasmine should ideally be in his blend- thank you, Key of Solomon)

That's the basic crew!

I look forward to any and all suggestions! :)

Much love,

Cat

Jessica: Tombstone (A rugged, warm blend of vanilla, balsam and sassafras layered over Virginia cedar.) Unisex, with a bit of ruggedness from the wood and sweetness from the vanilla.

Chloe: Maenad (sweet strawberry and orange blossom distorted by carnation, black poppy and hibiscus), Belle Vinu (Red sandalwood, vanilla, rosewood, osmanthus, and white peach.)

Kindred: Golden Priapus (A truly carnal, energetic men’s blend: vanilla and amber with juniper, rosewood and white pine.) A different scent profile from Jess's, but shares the vanilla and evergreen.

Tir: The Memory of Primal Secrets (Corrupt incense twinging through the huddled roofs of Kingsport on winter solstice night.) LE. Might be a bit too ominous for Tir, but the reviews mention aquatic and incense, which seems like it would fit his concept.

Tierney: Maybe Ranger, although that might be too outdoorsy for a big city cop?

Shax: Highwayman (Vetiver with gardenia, blood red rose, night-blooming jasmine, a dash of cinnamon and a faint hint of leather.)

Oooooh, what a fascinating topic!

Let's see...

The countenance of a lush, but ultimately the heart of a lion. Is loyal to Jess and Jess alone (not by choice but by design). Snarky, sexy and sarcastic to the core. (NOTE: should ideally share one or two notes in common with JESSICA and SHAX)

Perversion: Smoky rum and black tobacco with a whisper of steamy leather with a splash of crystalline chardonnay, layered over a sensual, sweet, and deceptively magnetic base of tonka

Tavern of Hell: White gardenia, ambergris bouquet, lavender fougere, orange blossom, melissa, tobacco flower, coriander, ebony wood, ylang ylang, absinthe and aged whiskey

Kill-Devil: Sugar cane, molasses, oak wood, and honey

Lyonesse: Golden vanilla and gilded musk, stargazer lily, white sandalwood, grey amber, elemi, orris root, ambergris and sea moss

Dragon's Tears: salty aquatic notes and bursting with dragon's blood

- TIERNEY: The reluctant member of the Boston PD assigned to act as touchstone to the "Freaky Fucking Division" AKA Jess' legal handler. A tough South Boston Irish Catholic who lapsed in adulthood. Plays hard, works harder. A skeptic. Has a file somewhere filled with excessive force complaints.

Dragon's Hide: Dragon’s blood, leather and a hint of smoke

- SHAX: A sexy, silky-tongued demon with major boundary issues. Plays in the human world, rules over certain segments of hell. Lives to cause ordered chaos and give Jess a headache. If he had a theme song, it would be Sympathy for the Devil. Expensive looking. Kindred's technical creator, though they have a serious antipathy for one another. (NOTE: jasmine should ideally be in his blend- thank you, Key of Solomon)

Vicomte de Valmonte: ambergris, white musk, white sandalwood, Spanish Moss, orange blossom, three mints, jasmine, rose geranium and a spike of rosemary

Fun! Best of luck with your jobs and writing. I've tried to choose scents that would evoke the characters' personalities based on both name and scent. Mostly GCs so they'll be easy to obtain.

Oblivion - Dark musk, wood spice, labdanum, patchouli, dark African woods, and saffron.

Chloe

Alice - Milk and honey with rose, carnation and bergamot.

Mouse's Long and Sad Tale - Vanilla, two ambers, sweet pea and white sandalwood.

Aelopile - Glowing amber and citrus, labdanum, verbena, cedar, and oud.

Avenger - Plush vanilla bourbon and rum accord with pink pepper, patchouli, clove, pikaki, golden amber, caraway, tuberose, and jacarandá-da-bahia.

Kindred

Lion - A golden, spiced amber, proud, regal and ferocious.

Bloodlust - Dragon’s blood essence, heavy red musk, Indonesian patchouli and swarthy vetiver with a drop of cinnamon.

VILF - Patchouli-infused honey, red musk, red sandalwood, red ginger, pink pepper, Peru balsam, dark Eastern florals, Himalayan cedar, smoky vanilla, bitter clove, and leather.

Ameles Potamos - The River of Unmindfulness: bittersweet black water swollen with forgotten tears.

The Sea Foams Blood - Blood rising through an ocean wave.

The Deep Ones - Black algae, drooping seaweed, salty brine, and crushed coral.

Tierney

Det. Patrick Gleason - A classic men’s cologne splashed over a leather trenchcoat and a hint of gunshot residue.

Captain Cully - A cocky light musk with leather, tonka, a dusting of dry woods, and a splash of porter.

Mad Sweeney - Barrel-aged whiskey and oak.

Mr. Vandemar - Opopponax, costus, black pepper, black sandalwood, and polished metal.

Shax

Voyeuristic Monkey (LE) - Three brown musks, galbnum, saffron, golden honey, myrrh, cumin, and patchouli.

Tombeur - Vanilla-infused sandalwood, blood musk, antique patchouli, vetiver, lavender, bitter almond, amber, and a trickle of Snake Oil.

I'm trying to think of the most masculine jasmine I know... probably:

Highwayman - Vetiver with gardenia, blood red rose, night-blooming jasmine, a dash of cinnamon and a faint hint of leather.

Similarities between perfumes recommended for Jessica, Kindred and Shax: Amber, musk, patchouli, vetiver, leather.

Your characters are AMAZING. I had so much fun scenting these that I went overboard. I tried to keep it to GCs but some LEs found their way in as well.

JESSICA: The titular character. 20s. Tomboy. Dark haired and laconic, sensual and vehemently opposed to anything girly. A natural in every sense of the word, she is equal parts babe, bro and badass. KINDRED: AKA "The World's Least Helpful Familiar" Gifted to Jess by an overly helpful demon. Taking the form of a man, he drinks, he smokes, he fucks anything vaguely symmetrical and human-esque. Y'all are AWESOME!!

So many good suggestions, and sooooooo many smells that may get pushed on actors in the not so distant future...

So far, the front runners (and this is after serious, difficult consideration because all of these were pretty damn spot on!) are-

For Jess:

Tombstone (A rugged, warm blend of vanilla, balsam and sassafras layered over Virginia cedar.) Unisex, with a bit of ruggedness from the wood and sweetness from the vanilla)

Hunter (Leonine amber, tanned hides, clove, and clary sage)

(Sidenote: Juke Joint I may have to buy for my self, BoneBone my dear)

For Chloe: (she's a girly girl, she can have more than one as far as I'm concerned)

Maiden (white tea, carnation and Damask Rose)

Alice (Milk and honey with rose, carnation and bergamot)

Sweets to the Sweet (Sugar upon sugar, honey upon honey: white cane sugar and honey absolute)

Pandy (Every girl you’d ever want to be or know. Fresh white musk, honeycomb, sweet apricot, elemi, orange blossom, and mischievous pink pepper)

and another addition, which I stumbled upon in the LE's

Katrina Von Tassel (White rose and honeyed cream)

For Tir:

The Memory of Primal Secrets (Corrupt incense twinging through the huddled roofs of Kingsport on winter solstice night.)

Sea of Glass (A scent of inimitable purity, crystalline grace, and limitless light)

As well as this bad boy-

Vial of Holy Water (The gleaming, indescribably clean scent of purified, ritually consecrated holy water)

For Kindred:

The Marquis De Carabas (A splash of bay rum, leather, dusty black wool, massoia bark, and opium residue)

Perversion (Smoky rum and black tobacco with a whisper of steamy leather with a splash of crystalline chardonnay, layered over a sensual, sweet, and deceptively magnetic base of tonka)

Tavern of Hell (White gardenia, ambergris bouquet, lavender fougere, orange blossom, melissa, tobacco flower, coriander, ebony wood, ylang ylang, absinthe and aged whiskey)

For Tierney:

Det. Patrick Gleason (A classic men’s cologne splashed over a leather trenchcoat and a hint of gunshot residue)

Mad Sweeney (Barrel-aged whiskey and oak)

For Shax:

Vicomte de Valmont (Rake, scoundrel, demon in a frock coat. Based on an 18th century gentlemen’s cologne: ambergris, white musk, white sandalwood, Spanish Moss, orange blossom, three mints, jasmine, rose geranium and a spike of rosemary)

Highwayman (Vetiver with gardenia, blood red rose, night-blooming jasmine, a dash of cinnamon and a faint hint of leather)

Okay, this was officially an excellent response from you most lovely BPAL humans, so I will definitely be hitting this up in the not so distant future for more suggestions, both for this project and others!

You are all stars among humans!

Much love,

C.
