Dark Pumpkin Mead

Recommended Posts

Thick, heady pumpkin mead sweetened with clover honey and a hint of maple.

In the bottle: Maple mead, not too sweet, with a swirl of pumpkin.

Wet: Much as on cold sniff.

The dry-down: What an odd duck! A not-very-sweet mead scent, with more woods than honey. I might try layering with O for more honey. Hopefully aging will improve this. I was expecting to adore this; instead I just like it.

I really had a fail-party with this year's Weenies I'm afraid :( Anything with a pumpkin note went cheap-holiday-candle on me. This is no exception. There is also a very strong melted butter thing going on.

I guess I've learned my lesson re: pumpkin!

I've still got a lot of my Halloweenie shopping to review from this year's selection so before my Yule's come in, I'm going to make a start! Dark Pumpkin Mead is what it says it is - it is dark, it is pumpkiny and it is boozy. Beyond that, it has a treacle/molasses note (on my skin anyway) that really is very moreish. I get the maple also and as others have said - it's not a cheap maple note, it's a REAL maple syrup note. If this blend, all notes included, was an edible sauce or syrup of some sort I would want it slathered on everything I eat. It's so well-rounded and tasty. Also, a little bit goes a long, LONG way. The throw is incredible and smells wonderful on my husband also. Perfect for those lazy, cosy Autumn/Winter days where you want to be warmed and soothed and pleasured by the perfume you wear. Dark Pumpkin Mead is a gourmand hug in a bottle.

Pumpkin pie spice and an odd alcoholic note, sweet fermented oats or something like that. I don't mind the pumpkin and spice, though it's pretty much like all the pumpkin patches and like blends, but the alcohol note is rather nauseating. :( Not my thing.

In the bottle - A pulpy raw pumpkin scent

Wet on me - Cinnamon and green apples

Dry on me - A warm spicy fruity scent

Overall - Nice, but I was hoping for more meadiness

wooahhh i don't know about this. it doesn't really remind me of mead, but it is dark and boozey with hints of spice. the longer i wear it, though, the pumpkin starts to go waxy and candley and it just doesn't work on my skin. disappointing. :(

In the bottle: Caramel, maple, then after many sniffs boozy pumpkin joins the party. It's lovely enough just like this I might put it in a locket for craving busters.

Wet: Quickly morphing spices and something high and sharp, bright, a bit boozy, shading to spiced pumpkins and vodka. After a while it begins to darken. As time goes by, it becomes a deep, dark, slightly gritty pumpkin with maybe just a hint of sweetness.

Drydown: Harshly spicy, dark undertones, pumpkin with fake caramel on top. Overwhelmingly strong. Kinda slightly headachy.

Conclusions: This is a locket scent!

I smell all the described scents in the bottle of Pumpkin Mead: pumpkin, booze, a hint of clover, and the dark sweetness of maple. Right when I put it on my skin, however, it turns to SPICE! Maple and spice overload. My wrist now stinks of a pumpkin Red Hot. Hopefully once it settles down, it will become that dark and earthly sweet that arises out of the bottle.

10 minutes later: Now smells like a dark, boozy honey. It's growing on me.

First on, this smells like pumpkin pancakes dusted with cinnamon and drizzled with melted butter, maple syrup and caramel. It was so sweet, but fun, and I'd be hoarding bottles if it stayed that way. Unfortunately, the spice amps up in the drydown and I'm getting a strange, waxy honey (like beeswax more than clover honey) note that really makes this smell like a generic pumpkin spice candle, with a hint of maple syrup.

Wow!!! Thick, heady, tarty and sweet are words that come to mind sniffing the imp.

It's lovely at first, exactly what you'd hope reading the words dark pumpkin mead but alas, just as with Jack, this pumkin fades and fades away and there's only the boozy/honey notes left. Not bad, but the pumpkin was what made this awesome. Aw. :c
