DADDY
Chalk on chalkboard, 2012
This is my daddy. Sometimes he has a mustache, sometimes he doesn't.
Black tea and a sweet lilac fougere with a dash of red licorice.

I just got my bottles in earlier today, and though I know I should have let them settle before testing...frankly, I couldn't wait :joy:

In the bottle: Lilac, first and foremost. It smells almost a bit astringent, maybe kind of medicinal?

Wet on skin: Still lilac. I'm thinking of dryer sheets. It's sweeter than it was in the bottle, though.

Dry: The tea and licorice notes come out. It's a bit difficult to describe now. I've still got the lilac/dryer sheet impression, but I can make out the licorice as well, and it's quickly going softer and is now much less medicinal than it was initially. There's not as much of the tea as I would've liked, but that might change with some time. I'm not quite sure it suits me, but I'll give it time to age before I make a final decision. As it stands, I do like it and will wear it again. It'll be good for when the weather really heats up.

I picked this decant up on a whim. I really didn't expect it to work. In fact, I'm allergic to lilacs though lilac fougere is sometimes okay. This must be one of those times because I actually really like this.

I actually don't get lilac from this at all. The tea comes to the forefront for me and it's a pretty true to life tea note (tea can go horribly wrong on my skin and this is very nice). There is a lovely sweetness behind it that must come from the red licorice. This is an unexpected hit, and I see a bottle in my future. This will be wonderful in the summer.

eta: I love this, but it has no staying power at all. I reapplied 3 times yesterday and I usually don't have to reapply anything.

A Tremulous Song: Daddy

I picked up a decant of this from a decant circle because I loved the description and thought the notes sounded interesting.

In the vial: Smoky candy. Weird. I don't have high hopes for this.

Wet on skin: Smoky candy still, just stronger. The smoky note must be the black tea.

During dry down: The black tea starts to trail off and the violets come forward. This is kind of like candied violets. It smells nice but it's a little too "candy-ish" for me, and that's coming from a foodie!

Dry on skin: Mainly licorice heavily coating the violets with the black tea whispering from behind every now and then.

All in all, I like it, but I might have to try it again to see if it's something I'd really want to wear. I'm just not a fan of walking around smelling like licorice. I think this would be very lovely on the right person and it's still a good blend.

This is a clean tea scent to my nose. It reminds me of white tea, which always smells a bit citrusy on my skin. The lilac fougere is reminding me of lilac scented dryer sheets and soap. I don't get anything like candy or red licorice, which is sad, because that's the main reason I wanted this scent. Mostly it's a light soap + citrus tea smell. Only lasts about an hour total on me.

Origin: decant circle by Absinthetics

Initial Thoughts: This sounded like it might be an interesting scent on my husband. But I'll try it on as well.

In the Vial: Tea and very lilac. Masculine, but delicate. My initial thought is a version of Dorian for the hottest summer days.

Wet: Huh. I have no idea where it's coming from, but I'm getting an almost lemony tang from this. No licorice, tea or lilac on first contact.

Drydown: The tea comes out, but it's very lemony tea. Unfortunately something is also making my skin sting a bit. I remember occasionally reacting as such to a really strong cinnamon blend. Maybe it's the licorice?

Verdict: I'll try it on the husband, but definitely not for me.

At first, red whip licorice, maybe a touch of spice, but that could be the lilac. Dry, no one has mentioned this, but I'm getting an expensive pipe tobacco, unsmoked with a touch of cherry. This is the heady tobacco of Perversion, not the gritty French Tobacco SN (which I do like as well). This is a total surprise hit for me, I'll probably try to track down at least a partial. It does fade pretty fast, though and I did slather all the way up my arms.

eta: Even with using half my decant, this faded within a half hour. Not worth upgrading due to fast fade factor. Too bad.

Daddy reminds me to a more sugary, less lemony version of Dorian. I get masculine lilacs, sweet candy, and a touch of tea.

Dorian to me is almost a gender neutral blend, whereas Daddy is definitely a more masculine variation of it.

Sweet candy, lilacs, male.

this smells a bit like my dad! must be the dryer sheet-scent others have mentioned, except my dad has the added scent of tobacco instead of licorice ;) the licorice adds a nice sweetness. this is a gentle, close to the skin scent, and doesn't have a huge amount of throw. i don't find it overly masculine or feminine, more gender neutral actually, and a rather interesting scent.

In the decant: Very dark, very smokey tea, not sweet at all.

Wet: A hint of lilac brightening things up.

The dry-down: Back to the smokey tea. Nice.

Dirt and smoke, gracefully lifted by a fresh clear breeze and just a smidge of spice. This is a wonderful mix of delicate notes and darker earthy tones. It's light and smells clean and comforting. Sadly, it doesn't last long on my skin.

In the bottle - Mostly a smooth, slightly cool fougere, with just a hint of the tea

Wet on me - A sweet soft fougere with just a hint of sugar from the liquorice coming through

Dry on me - A faint vaguely fougere scent

Overall - The hints of tea and liquorice were promising, but never came to much

In the imp: Sweet lilacs.

Wet: Definitely getting the tea now, the fougere too.

Dry: Sweet, manly licorice. Not strictly masculine, but it smells quite a bit like men's shower gel.
