capnlizaveta Report post Posted February 10, 2010 Skin musk, white amber, ambergris, orange blossom, ylang ylang, and coconut milk. As incredibly pumped as I am for this year's Shungas (my absolute favorite favorite favorite thing and I am SO happy they came back for another year), my ability to go nutz and write for pages on end likening scents to boy band boys and unicorns is at an all-time low.So this review may actually have to be somewhat substantive.I tried for a while to think of what this smelled like to me. What I want to say is powdered skin, but that sounds much more boring than this actually is. It's extremely expansive powdered skin - the beanfolk are not so much in the vaginal vicinity as they are elsewhere, preparing. The scent is very evocative of clean upper thigh skin. I can't say I've ever noticed the smell of upper thigh skin and thought "I want to smell like this," to be honest, but like many BPALs this is how it OUGHT to smell, even if it doesn't in practice generally smell this nice.I really like that this is suggestive without being SUGGESTIVE. I loved Giant Vulva last year, and this is about as opposite of that as you can get in mood, though it actually smells a little bit similar to it. This is softer and gentler. It's really beautiful and I actually will probably end up wearing it a lot more often than Giant Vulva, considering that it is more, shall we say, subtle, and there are many times when you really don't want to smell like a giant vulva.Edited to add: two seconds after hitting post, I just realized what this reminds me of, that I couldn't quite put my finger on - snow white. It's a springier, slightly skankier snow white. Snow white's upper thigh, perhaps?I also realized that, despite my best intentions, this still wasn't all that substantive. But hey, comparisons to snow white and giant vulva - it's exciting at least, if not specific!
Eutectic Report post Posted February 11, 2010 I am finding the skin musk, ambergris and amber are definitely in the front of the florals of the coconut milk. A very soft, classy scent. Not all skin notes but skin that is washed in something with florals and smoothed with an unscented skin cream. Clean, soft, yet invocative of subtle florals with a sweet note carried in at the end of the scent. I would attribute this to the coconut milk. Very, very wonderful. I tested this last night when I dug into my order and couldn't stop huffing my hand. Today a full wear and it is wearing beautifully. I thought it would be a rapid fader but after an hour and a half it is only now starting to settle nicely with my skin for a long wear. I will definitely need backups! hkhm Report post Posted February 11, 2010 bottle: musk and something creamy. probably the coconut milk but it does not really smell coconutty. wet: between the orange blossom and the ylang ylang, this is a bit sharp. the amber, musk and coconut milk are helping to smooth it though. dry: thankfully, the ylang ylang fadse a bit as this dries. it's mostly amber and coconut milk now, very soft and lightly creamy. lishal Report post Posted February 18, 2010 Sharp musk in the bottle mixed with ylang ylang and beautiful amber to mellow out the muskiness with a breeze of orange blossom to give the scent a floral note to make it a musky floral instead of just straight up musk. For a moment I can smell the ambergris sweetening the whole deal. On my skin, the first thing I am is the sharp white musk that practically screams before its throat gets dry in about 5 seconds. It fumbles into a raspy gasp letting the rest of the scent come up for a visit. Orange blossom with the creaminess of coconut milk is what I get now. The ylang ylang is still a very present entity. The ambergris gives this a slightly sweet edge as the scent starts to mellow out a few hours later. And to think, I thought this scent was going to be light and airy! It clings to me like crazy as its notes start to fall off one by one. First was the sharp musk, then the ylang ylang then what I'm left with is a sweet golden and creamy floral. Very pretty. Very girly. Great lasting power on me.
jizatt Report post Posted February 18, 2010 I expected amber and creamy coconut and skin musk and ambergris. I got orange blossom and ylang. Its gorgeous, but its not at all what I expected from the list of notes.
kelpsoda Report post Posted February 18, 2010 This is a soft, pretty, clean smelling scent. I get mostly skin musk - and something floral/watery. Maybe that's the ambergris? and the ylang ylang? Not quite to my tastes, but it's still nice - and really long lasting.
reynardine Report post Posted February 18, 2010 In decant: MUSK!!! Wet: Sharp amber and MUSK!! Almost plastic and nasty. Drydown: Okay, that’s better. The scent is softening. Getting the florals orange blossom and ylang ylang. Not picking up coconut milk at all. Later: At the beginning, I didn’t think I was going to like this one, but it settles into an absolutely gorgeous scent. Bottle for sure.
edenssixthday Report post Posted February 19, 2010 (edited) Beanman & Beanwoman Prepare to Attack the Vagina - If it's possible for a fragrance to be too pretty, this would qualify. It is so perfectly pretty that I can hardly stand it. Every single note is evident, yet every single note is in perfect balance with all the others. I honestly can't describe this in a way that gives enough credit to how truly beautiful this blend is. Read the other reviews -- they go into details about the notes. Ny review is just going to describe this as the absolutely perfect, pretty, feminine, sprintime scent. I can't get enough of it. I need a gallon. I wish I could bathe in this from head to toe, all the time, every day. ETA: Great throw and wear length. My skin tends to eat up scents like this, but I've been wearing it for about 4 hours now, and it has as much throw now as it did when I first put it on. I keep catching gorgeous wafts of it all around me. I wore it yesterday evening, too, and when I woke up this morning, I could still smell a faint trace of it on my skin. Awesome staying power for such a clean, fresh, light, pretty scent!!! Edited February 19, 2010 by edenssixthday
theandorran Report post Posted February 21, 2010 Oh my god this is amazing. It's so well-blended that it's hard to pick out specific notes, just feelings from it. It's sweet and clean and musky, it reminds me of freshly cleaned skin and soap. I get coconut milk strongest, probably, especially when it's wet on my skin. But there's also the crispness of orange blossom, the faintest odor of clean skin, and the amber smoothing everything out. More later, I'm going to lie around and sniff myself for a while. Venneh Report post Posted February 22, 2010 (edited) [insert childish giggling about the scent name here] In the decant, I'm definitely getting the coconut milk and orange blossom, which makes me uneasy. Light application on this one, too. On my skin, it's primarily coconut, which is equalling suntan lotion on skin. Eugh. I don't think this one is going to be sticking long. Oh god. Have to get this off, now. The coconut and orange blossom are going all kinds of wrong on my skin. For those of you who do not do well with coconut, or for whom it amps, I'd suggest staying clear of this one. Edited February 22, 2010 by Venneh
hlemonds Report post Posted February 23, 2010 Initially i do get a lot of creamy coconut milk. I can see where someone might get suntan lotion. Thankfully that begins to receed quite quickly, leaving room for the musk and ylang ylang (and possibly the white amber?) to come forward. This part of the wet stage reminds me a bit of Vasilissa and The Girl, however the creamy coconut milk definitely lends this one it's own character. I'm sure that the orange blossom and ambergris are there, particularly in the later drydown when it has gained complexity, but i can't pick them out. This is really beautiful, and i can easily see people getting lots of compliments on a scent like this. Which could be awkward when they ask, "What is that scent you're wearing!?" I may have to leave off the part about preparing to attack the vagina
Aldercy Report post Posted February 23, 2010 I smell me some coconut and sex. It's light, but very suggestive. There's some ambergris in here for sure, which adds a more musky murky quality to the coconut, keeping it from getting too clean and tropical. And it definitely becomes a more complicated scent on the drydown-- whereas the orange blossom is pretty prominent in the beginning, making for something kind of perfumey, it settles into something more odd and ethereal with a little time on the skin. Not sure it stands up to my favorite vaginally-themed scent (go Giant Vulva!), but it's a nice blend!
meaganola Report post Posted February 23, 2010 This one is all coconut milk and ylang ylang to my nose (wore it in my Clocket), which is not a combination I'm wild about. The annoying thing is that I *like* coconut milk and ylang ylang. Put them together, though, and it turns into tossing out the cotton pad after a couple of hours because it was just way too creamy-sweet for me. It reminded me of buying Japanese candy without knowing what it is since I don't actually speak Japanese. Most of the time, it turns out to be awesome, but every once in a while, I encounter something that just doesn't work for me. I ended up with two decants left over after filling decant circle requests, and I was very excited because I thought this was going to be my big winner since I love orange blossom and am going through a ylang ylang phase, but, well, I'm keeping one of the decants to remind myself why I didn't get a bottle or even keep the other one when everyone raves about this oil. *So* sad that it doesn't work for me! musichappens Report post Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) Why hello there Orange Blossom! It's a pleasure to meet you. Oh and you too,Ylang Ylang! On my skin, this is a nice heady floral with just a hint of soft musk and amber. The coconut milk fails to make any type of appearance, but that's okay by me seeing as my skin hates anything dealing with coconut. I think this would be fabulous to wear during the summer when it is all hot and humid. I think I'll pick up a bottle for exactly that reason. Blood onmy hands Report post Posted February 28, 2010 I can't pick out any of the notes in this exactly. This smells like a very white scent to me, and makes me think of pale, clean skin and white tissue paper. It's sort of powdery soft and clean, without smelling too dry or like baby powder. Something in this goes tart & slightly fruity on my skin, and makes me think of sweet tarts candy. I think that the coconut milk is adding a bit of a creamy feel to the whole blend. I wish that I could smell more of the coconut. This is a really strong scent with lots of throw, which is odd, because it smells so light and delicate. I'll probably just keep my decant of this one, as a tiny dab of oil while go a long way for me. I'll wear this on days when I'm looking for a clean skin scent and don't mind the sweet tarts edge that this one has. I'm also hoping that it'll be more coconutty on me with some aging. thekittenkat Report post Posted February 28, 2010 This is one of the best well-blended scents that I have ever tried, from the Lab or elsewhere. No one note dominates at any time, from first sniff of the bottle to a much later dry-down. It's sweet but not too sweet: that's the coconut milk and orange blossom. There's a bit of an edginess from the ambergris. Ylang ylang is a fave scent note, but here it's not overpowering, but just blending in nicely. Surprisingly, the white amber is not going too powdery on me. And the skin musk is the base for all these lovely notes. This is a scent that I would wear when I want to wear perfume, but don't want to be too obvious about it, and also have people think, the ones that get close, that maybe that's the real skin scent. Beth, take a bow, because this is wonderful!
greenranger Report post Posted February 28, 2010 A powdery and clean scent. I agree there's something similar to snow white in the feel of this, but, I have no idea what. The flowers in this actually manage to not get kidnapped/vanished by the ambergris.
Delirium1009 Report post Posted February 28, 2010 In bottle/imp: A definite mix of ambergris and rubbery coconut. Immediately on skin: This smells of rubbery coconut with a lot of ambergris and a bit of musk. It’s dry and smooth, with a bit of a creamy feel but also a definite “oceany” feel from the ambergris. After a little while: This still smells strongly of rubbery coconut with maybe a little touch of ylang ylang, but all the other notes are gone. It’s creamy and very smooth. Overall Impressions: This scent was one I was so excited about, but it fell flat on my skin. At first it’s all rubbery coconut with a touch of musk and a lot of ambergris adding an oceany feel. Then as it dries down, it’s all coconut. Ah, well.
fiddledragon Report post Posted March 1, 2010 All the notes in this are incredibly well-blended on me. The coconut milk leaves a creamy note almost at the back of my throat as I sniff. Together it is a cool, creamy, floral blend. It actually smells almost exactly like really good lotion. I'm not likely to wear it, but it's a beautiful blend. Leopard403 Report post Posted March 1, 2010 This is like mildly-scented suntan lotion on me: It's coconut over a generic (but expensive) lotion smell. Nice, but not really noteworthy for me.
SeaLady Report post Posted March 2, 2010 I must say that I thoroughly agree with capnlizaveta's verdict of: Snow White's Upper Thigh. This is a voyeuristic and sexy scent - but it's erotica, not porn. What is that saying about big shoes and eye contact with the camera? Whatever it is, this scent is napping barefoot in the morning light, sprawled sensuously on a silk chaise lounge. And I likes it a whoooole lot.
Syzygy Report post Posted March 2, 2010 First of all, I love the name. It's got damn near everything: weird superhero names, action and adventure, sex. Throw in pirates and giant robots and it'd be a perfect storm of awesome. The scent begins as an all-out floral assault, but after a bit it does eventually settle down into a very pretty, light floral. As others have pointed out, there is a creaminess to it. It's quite soft and pleasant, but not really my style. My mother would probably love it, although I don't know how I could ever get the name past her. theseagrows Report post Posted March 2, 2010 (edited) ooh this is a nice one! in the same vein as snow white, but more deep, complex and doesn't turn plasticky on me like that one does. it is a bit strong on my skin at first, but now that it's a bit settled, i am really liking it. i get mostly amber, musk and orange blossom. the orange blossom and coconut are subtle-it's a very creamy, warm scent...pretty evocative of the artwork, i'd say. i might have to get a bottle of this, but i can't imagine telling people the name when they ask what scent i'm wearing. eta: come to think of it, this is a dead ringer for guipure and silk or hypnotic poison on me! wl552 Report post Posted March 3, 2010 Why did I even think this had a chance of working on me!? It's strong, sharp, sour-y coconut and gross, dirty body musk. Coconut always does this to me. Not sure I'll be keeping this long enough to hope it gets better; I'm sure it won't for sitting around. bleh
