White Chocolate, Black Raspberry, and Apricot Cordial Truffle

White chocolate, black raspberry, and apricot cordial truffle.

This is one of the few chocolate scents which works on me. The raspberry and apricot are both dominant, with the white chocolate giving a light sweetness to the blend. Was nice enough to be bottle-worthy.

Straight-up raspberry and chocolate...Bonne Bell used to make a LipSmackers in raspberry chocolate flavor, and I loved that, and this is just like it. I feel like this is a black raspberry in the sense that...you know those candies that look like raspberries, with the red and black sprinkles on the outside and gummy inside? It's like those.

 

Little bit of creaminess in the background, maybe a bit of apricot if I turn my head and squint at it. But mostly? Raspberry candy. I like raspberry candy, so this is okay with me.

Wow, I haven't reviewed stuff for ages! We'll start here, because I like this one.

 

On me, this is almost all sweet raspberry and apricot, which is great. The white chocolate (which does remind me of the one from Sugared Violets, which is always more milk than white on me) gives it a candy-sweetness, but a deeper kind of sweetness than the sugar notes. Hardly any alcohol in this truffle, which is okay with me!

Boy, was this apricot less when it touched my nose.

 

Bottle: Blackberry Cordial

Skin: Blackberry for a moment. Where's the chocolate? the apricot? As it dries, I end up smelling of burnt plastic.

Preconceived notions:

 

I love white chocolate. At least when it comes to eating it. It's one of the few candies that I really enjoy. My experience with it as a perfume note has been limited to the original 13, which really didn't work for me. It had a waxy, plastic-type smell to it that really put me off. But considering how much I love black raspberries (as food, generally, but the smell of actual fresh black raspberries or black raspberry preserves is a wonderful thing) and BPAL's apricot note (hello, March Hare!), I had to try this. I'm really hoping that it smells somewhat similar to Godiva's white chocolate raspberry starfish candies, to be perfectly honest, because they smell good.

 

First sniff:

 

First I sniffed this through the plumber's tape that was wrapped around the cap and it smelled strongly of white chocolate with something almost musky that had to be the apricot playing tricks. It smelled pretty good. Then once I unwrapped it and was hit with a nice waft of black raspberry preserves, mixed with white chocolate and a hint of that March Hare apricot note I love. This is looking good. Opening the bottle, it was the same scent as it was with the cap on but stronger. Delicious. It actually does smell quite a bit like Godiva's white chocolate raspberry starfish, but with apricot added.

 

Wet on skin:

 

No change at all from the bottle. Which is good. I was afraid this would turn to plastic on me like it seems to do on some people. This smells wonderful. Much sweeter than my normal perfumes (since I strongly prefer incense/earthy scents most days), but really nice. It's definitely sweeter and more gourmand than my Dark Chocolate, Whiskey and Cognac Truffle, but still wearable and not too foody for me (I think it would definitely be too foody if I disliked any of the notes in this, though, so bear that in mind).

 

Dry down:

 

The white chocolate takes over a bit as this dries and it settles into a musky white chocolate scent with a background of apricot and black raspberry preserves. It really does smell like candy and, amazingly, I'm absolutely loving this. Like Dark Chocolate, Whiskey and Cognac Truffle, it makes me want to eat my arm, it smells so good. Completely realistic and utterly delicious.

 

The bottom line:

 

I'm definitely going to have to track down more of this because it's a beauty. I only have half a bottle right now and I can see myself using it all up. I'm amazed by how much I'm liking these Box of Chocolates scents. I never thought I'd see the day that I would be wearing (and loving) a candy scented perfume, but leave it to BPAL to achieve the unachievable. I'm in white chocolate, raspberry, apricot heaven right now.

I wasn't sure about this one when it came out because I have trouble with white chocolate, and raspberry often smells kinda chalky on me. I should not have worried. This smells delicious. I only smell a little bit of booziness right at the beginning, and after that it's all sweet chocolate-dipped fruit. Black raspberry seems to smell darker on me than other raspberry blends I've tried, and I really like it. The chocolate isn't going plastic-y at all, and the apricot smells divine, just like BPAL's apricot always does.

 

I've worn this probably 10 times since I got the decant, and although I definitely want more, I never seem to see it on swap/sales posts. So now I'm kinda protective of my little decant. I'm getting to the point where it has become a "special occasion" perfume rather than a "I'll wear this because it makes me feel happy" perfume.

In the bottle: FRUITY NOMS!

 

Immediately after application: It's a thick, sticky oil, appropriately enough. Heavy on the raspberry and apricot. It smells like I'm in a fruit field with juicy ripe fruit bursting around me. I can almost taste it.

 

Warming up: OMFG this smells amazing! The fruit scents are rich and full, surrounded by a creamy warmth from the white chocolate. I'm in love.

 

Fading: Softy fading creamy fruit. I smell soooo tasty. I HAZ A FLAVOR!

 

Faded: Very long-lasting and true scent to the finish.

 

Overall: Unlike Akuma, which was a drier, non-foody raspberry, this is a juicy, lush, edible smell with the addition of the apricot and chocolate. It is immediately going on my must-find list for a bigger bottle, which sucks because it's a LE scent. I will find it though. Anyone who likes foody scents, especially fruity ones, should give this a try!

In the bottle this is BEAUTIFUL!!! But on my skin something turns cloying and sickly sweet. And the worst part is, it AMPS like crazy!

Bottle: White chocolate dominates my nose anytime I put it to this bottle. I catch hints of a plasticky fruitiness. I think my nose is out to be a foodie hater without even giving it a chance. Silly nose. Now, to skin test...

Wet: Lush, swelling apricot. Sweet and juicy... it is completely inducing lascivious thoughts. Mmm, apricots.

Drydown: The white chocolate comes into play gently, which surprises me. Usually this is all I can smell. A few soft raspberry whispers chime in. Lovely, delicate balance.

Overall: Soft, and prettily sweet. It no longer has the initial apricot va-va-voom that made my heart race, but it is still has a nice balance. I don't usually want to smell like candy, but if I did, I would reach for this.

In the bottle - Sweet, rich raspberry

 

Wet on me - Softer slightly tarter raspberries with a vague hint of apricot beneath

 

Dry on me - Soft, sweet, almost buttery chocolate with only the faintest hint of fruit

 

Overall - It's pretty, but I would have liked the raspberry to have performed more

Pretty straightforward: sweet fruit and a little sugary booze to give it a kick. You can smell that thick, sweet, sludgy fruit at the center of the truffle. A must-have for raspberry lovers.
