Shadowless like Silence

Recommended Posts

Dry leaves and white sandalwood, rock moss, cypress, and dry, lifeless roses.

Wet on the skin, the dry leaf note definitely dominates. It's so evocative of falling leaves, it's crazy. At this point it's not sweet at all and is very earthy and somewhat cold-smelling. The more it dries the more the bittersweet sandalwood emerges. There is only a hint of moss, and the roses serve just to soften and sweeten the edges. This is rather well-blended, as I can't really tell mots of the notes apart other than the leaves and sandalwood.

This scent is very dry, woody and dark. If I could describe it in a single phrase, I would use "sacred death." To me it is reminiscent of death, in a good way, because it smells like an almost-bare earth. Very pretty and unique.

The sandalwood and cypress are by far the strongest notes on me. If there are roses in this, I am not really sensing them. I am thinking the dry leaves are in here, lending a dry quality to the whole scent.

Yes, overall, I think the word here would be "dry". Dry woods, dry leaves, (dry roses) swirling in and out of each other. It's an almost meditative blend that makes you think of new fallen foliage and old tree stumps and bark in the early autumn. Like sitting alone for a quiet moment on an old tree stump in the woods as the sun's last rays cast a golden glow on everything in the late afternoon. It is still warm, but autumn is approaching.

I am not sure I will be wearing this very often, but I'm very happy to have experienced it, because it's a beautiful little journey in scent

Oh, wow. This was a little sharp (in a good way) at first, but as it has tried down it has really transformed into this well rounded scent - it's soft and dry, much like dried leaves. The woodiness is very subtle, but definitely there. It fascinates me.

I've wanted to try this for ages, almost entirely due to the name, which I think is one of my favourite BPAL names ever. Hoping I like it, as I would love to have a bottle, really again just because of the name!

Wet: Hmmm. Very subtle. Hard to describe. It smells...faded? I almost wonder if this decant has not aged well. It's not unpleasant. I just can't pick out notes. It's faintly sweet. Actually, maybe I can pick out leaves, it's just not the bitter dry leaf note that the Lab so often uses. It's softer, and softened further still by the sandalwood and floral notes I can just vaguely pick out. It's very very light.

Dry: Light, slightly perfumey/powdery (but in a gorgeous way) and really compelling. It doesn't smell at all like I thought it would. I do get a sense of autumn leaves and cool winds. It's like a hint of a mysterious and beautiful perfume carried on an autumn breeze. Quite lovely. I do think I could justify a bottle, or at least a partial.
