June Gloom 2009

Recommended Posts

Bright summer flowers, fresh herbs, and a bit of citrus rind dampened by the scent of morning mist and rain.

Dear June Gloom,

When first I met you, I was enamoured by your name. But I knew you were no good for me -- you ran with a bad crowd, all soapy florals and overpowering bouquets, and you came from a bad family, a bunch of boring blooms.

But I was tempted. I knew you'd just break my heart, but I gave you a chance anyway, lured by promises of mist and rain, promises so many others had broken before. I hoped you would be different, even though I knew that was impossible.

And when I least expected it, you stole my heart. Where have you been all my life, with your sunshine-y freshness, your shockingly wonderful, delicate petals of joy? How did you make me love you when the odds were so against us? And how can I ever live without you, knowing that I let you slip away?

I can only hope that someday, among the swappy streets, we'll meet again.

Yours,

Ravenclaw79 :)

This has got to be one of my favourite scents, ever! It's fresh and light and not overly florally (but florally enough to make me feel feminine), and it's something that I can wear for all sorts of occasions. Too bad that it doesn't last long on my skin so I have to slather a fair bit and the dry down after several hours smells a little herb-y and stale.

It smells clean and floral with a nice gentle kick of aquatics in the bottle and upon first application. But, a couple of minutes in and I get this strange hint of something musky and dark beneath the clean floral scent. About an hour later on the dry down, it smells dark heavy, a bit dirty and oddly enough, sour. This is a really weird morphing scent on me and I really don't like its dry down but love its wet stage.

In bottle: almost perfume-like blend of wildflowers amidst aquatics. Getting no citrus at all.

Wet: FLOWERS!! So many, I can’t pick out individual notes.

Drydown: Herbs coming into play now, still very floral. Pretty, but reminds me of a perfume that was popular when I was a kid (1970’s). Can’t remember the name, but it smells just like it—my mom had it.

Later: Mainly aquatics with a touch of herbs. Flowers in the background.

Seems like it would be a nice summertime scent, especially on very hot days. I like it but not love it. I’m going to test it again later in warmer weather to see how my reactions do then.

June Gloom 2009 - This opens up as a super-floral. I smell none of the lemon that the original June Gloom had. Initially, I think it's just another floral blend, but then something happens, and I start catching wafts of gorgeousness and I really think I've got a winner here, and right about the time I decide to put out an ISO for some more of this, something goes horribly, horribly awry, and I end up with the scent of floral soap that's been sitting in the back of my great-aunt's closet, collecting an inch of dust and cobwebs for more than 40 years. What a shame something so pretty can turn so horribly wrong on my skin. :(

Definately a misty, hazy, warm rain scent..makes me think of when it rains and is sunny at the same time and then rainbows happen :) I love how Beth and co. are able to bottle LA weather!

I am surprised at how much I like this. The flowers are just ever so slightly in the background so it's not overly floral, which is nice. I guess I like anything Juneish since I am a June baby !

Indistinguishable florals in the imp and then almost unbearably sweet florals wet on my skin. The sweet has started to fade, leaving an almost plasticky-smelling light floral with a hint of herbs. It's not unpleasant at all, just sort of odd.

I got a partial bottle of June Gloom ’09 as a Frimp from a lovely formate when I bought some BPAL from her :D and on reading the description became very excited!

On opening the bottle I am overwhelmed – It smells like a fairy garden, it is just so beautiful. Sweet sweet sweet.

On me it’s very sweet and floral. Hints of sweet herby-ness, jasmine and citrus come through nicely. This is an absolutely beautiful scent that just smells so sophisticated and wonderful.

I found this one quite amusing, mainly because I had been graced with the chance to try the original as well.

Where the old style slapped me in the face with lemon cleaner, JG2009 is quite divergent from its origins.

Bottle : Flowers + dust.

Skin: Grandmother floral perfume. Quite heavy and heady.

Lovely, but as a foodie girl this one isn't for me.

Wet: Pure lemon Clorox wipes. WTF?!

Dry down: Pure lemon Clorox wipes.

Dry: Pure lemon Clorox wipes.

Verdict: Don't mind me crying quietly while I put my decant up for sale.

This is very light on me, once dry. It`s almost a little spicy, in a gingery sort of way. It`s fresh and green, a little sweet. It`s so light though, and has zero throw. I am glad I tried it - something about it kept catching my attention, and I wouldn`t have been satisfied until I did try it. But I don`t need to hunt down a bottle. Somewhat thankful for that!

Oh wow, a lovely dreary, dark rainy floral garden from the imp.

It gets a bit more green on drydown, and there's still that ozone-y type thing going on without going mens' deodorant on me which is pretty great. However it dies after ten minutes. Alas, it's lovely!

In the decant: Florals, spice, herbs, and citrus, backed by the mist. Maybe ginger is one of the herbs?

Wet: Yeah, there’s definitely some spice in this one. The spice and citrus peel stand out to me the most, giving it a bit of a holiday vibe on me, but I am also getting some mist and florals.

Dry: It remains that way for a long time, but the spice does end up calming down somewhat after a while, and by this point I am pretty sure it is ginger. I think it is accompanied by orange peel, which is also not as strong as it was previously, and some florals that I am not able to pick out, but they’re more prominent than before. There’s also lots of green herbs at play here, and the mist is still weaving its way through the scent.

Verdict: Well, the strong spice was unexpected! I did enjoy the prominence of the citrus, but this ends up being too herbal on me in the end. It was nice to get to try it, though.
