rayvn1 Report post Posted August 20, 2009 (edited) Dark chocolate and pepper-smoked caramel. Why hello, what seems to be smoke single note on me This is pepper and smoke and that's about it which is beyond fine with me! I love smoke scents and this reminds me of my Villainess Friction or Pyromania soaps. Unfortunately it is very low throw and fades quickly. But oh the smoky smoky goodness!! jupster75 Report post Posted August 21, 2009 WHY HELLO THERE PEPPER-SMOKED PEPPER! Did you come out of the spice cabinet to attack my nose? Where, oh where is your friend Dark Chocolate? Or maybe caramel? Pepper, you were supposed to accompany chocolate and also accentuate the flavor of caramel. Instead, I believe you murdered both of them because they are no where in this decant. Maybe you were jealous and afraid they were going to steal your glory. Seriously, this is nothing but smoked black pepper on me. None of the chocolate and caramel I was so longing to enjoy, JUST PEPPER.
voodoocatwoman Report post Posted November 26, 2009 Smoked pepper is the strongman here. The chocolate and caramel are being held hostage in another room. Terrible waste of good chocolate...
Invidiana Report post Posted December 1, 2009 My skin tends to do well with chocolate, and this one did not disappoint. In fact, it went above and beyond what I expected because I was a little afraid of the pepper, but it's not peppery at all. The "pepper-smoked" aspect really just adds a smoky, sexy depth to the sweet creamy caramel, and the dark chocolate deepens it all the more. Absolutely love. hkhm Report post Posted December 13, 2009 imp: faintly powdery chocolate with something thick and sweet. wet: the chocolate stays very faint, this is all rich, thick, slightly-smoky caramel. dry: this dries to pure caramel goodness. there is only a bare hint of cocoa or smokiness. i must now hunt down a bottle. lwhitesel Report post Posted January 8, 2010 This is one sexy scent! On me, it's the darkest of dark chocolates, with a tiny bit of spice. The first time I put it on, I was worried that it was a little too foody...and then I walked by my partner, who said, "What are you wearing???" I'm really rationing this out...too bad I only have one bottle (and I never thought I'd say that: one is usually more than sufficient." No caramel, though. On the other hand, I have no idea what a caramel note would smell like.
fieryredhead Report post Posted March 9, 2010 The first time I tried this it was a rich caramel-y goodness with only the slightest hint of smoke; it was delicious & I ordered a bottle that day. I wore the scent the next day and WOW there was the smoke! Was not to happy about that; it almost smelled to me like I spent too much time as a bar or something. Will be trying this again to see what happens!
othelloperrello Report post Posted March 16, 2010 Guy review: Here is my problem with this scent, dammit: wet on my arm it smells perfect, all the notes coming out exactly how I want them. It's the drydown that kills it for me, because within 10 minutes everything seems to depart - that coveted chocolate note, that gorgeous golden caramel - and I am left with peppery smoke. Why why WHY? I am going to let this age just another year or so, and see what I have at the end of that. ...to be continued!
FathomBelow Report post Posted May 18, 2010 Traded for this with Thursdae: This is delicious! On wet, I get chocolate and caramel, strong and almost overpoweringly sweet. Once it dries, the chocolate and caramel mellow slightly, with the peppery smoke note coming in to give the scent some depth and complexity. For some reason, overall this reminds me of a coffeehouse, even though it absolutely does not smell like coffee at all. Warming and bracing, perfect for cold, rainy days! kjirstiben Report post Posted June 19, 2010 Wow. This was a shock to the system. I'd been working through the 2009 chocolate box, taking notes for reviews, used to the idea that all of them turn bad on my skin because I can't wear candy notes. But this is in a league of its own. Actually--it reminds me of Gluttony and my reaction to that scent. It's a heavy, smoky, slightly sweet boozy caramel, and as it dries it amps to powerful levels. It's got almost a coffee-like dark bitterness and the smoky caramel reads as almost savory. This is too strong for my tastes, particularly on a warm day, so I went and washed it off. Glad I tried it, but I won't be wearing it again!
edenssixthday Report post Posted June 19, 2010 Dark Chocolate and Pepper-Smoked Caramel - I was scared of this scent because it has three of my least-favorite notes in it. However, I was frimped a bit, and when I smelled it in the vial, I couldn't believe how beautiful it smelled. It smelled smoky and sweet and sexy! So I ventured to put some on my skin, and it was really, really pretty: the deep, rich scent of cocoa blended with smoky pepper and a hint of sweet, buttery caramel. And then I let it stay on my skin and it all went to hell. Each of the three main notes did what they normally do on my skin: the chocolate went to plastic, the pepper got dusty, and the caramel turned rancid. It's like a freak show of horror notes on my skin. I'm glad I only tested a small patch. If I had a bottle of this, I would absolutely wear it in a scent locket, but since I have only half a decant, I can only do that a couple of times before it's all gone. Truelove Report post Posted September 3, 2010 This is the very first BPAL I ever tried - I’m off to a really great start. Out of the bottle I smell deep dark rich chocolate and smoky caramel - but not sweet at all. As it dries down, the spicy hot woodyness remains and the chocolate vaporizes. A keeper and one of my favorites.
Numanoid Report post Posted March 2, 2012 Oh my!!!! LOVE this!! I just got my bottle from the BPAL Ebay auctions...I am glad that I get all the wonderful scents... In the bottle: First sniff, CHOCOLATE...very dark and yummy! Oh Skin: I get choco, pepper, and caramel!! They blend and smell like a warm, chocolaty peppery caramel-y sweater! Dry Down: Just like above, but scent fades a bit, but in a good way. Really does remind me of Villainess' Friction, but with the hint of choco! SO GLAD I won this auction! LOVE IT!! I think BPAL needs to bring back these Box O' Chocolates every year! YUM!
brilliantcat Report post Posted September 16, 2013 In-bottle it's rich, buttery caramel with little to no chocolate and no smoke or pepper. It's a completely different story on my skin: nearly all smoky pepper with a hint of tooth-rotting caramel. In a good way. Usually caramel (see Red Lantern) quickly turns TOO sweet and makes me nauseous. The smoked pepper is keeping that sweetness in check. Sweet without being syrupy and surprisingly non-foody thanks to the smoked pepper.
Zii Report post Posted December 2, 2013 This is strong on the pepper smoked caramel, and the chocolate is a much more subtle backing note. The caramel is very, well, caramel smelling, and not the flat sweetness many caramel scents (and many caramel candies) seem to have. My biggest fear was that this was going to be a simplistic over-sweet sugar smell, but much to my joy, this is not the case. My bottle is very separated, and i suspect that I will get differing amounts of the chocolate depending on how much of the oils get applied, but this is stunning and yummy. Caper Report post Posted December 4, 2013 I love this. Dark chocolate, smokey, sweet goodness. It reminds me of The Gorobble (and is why I sold my bu bottle) but is different because of the chocolate. It is good stuff if you like dark chocolate and burnt sugar, which I do! vanilla323 Report post Posted May 7, 2015 This reminded me of a salted caramel mocha but with SOOOO much salt! It was very very salty. The chocolate was there but it was light surprisingly. This was delicious on me but not really something I liked wearing. It did have great throw and great staying power! Salty treat!
filigree_shadow Report post Posted August 31, 2015 This is one of the very few BPAL blends in which I feel like I can actually smell each individual piece, and the combination is wonderful. Actually I'm super surprised to see that I never wrote a review for this one because I loved it straight away, as soon as I tried it. BPAL has a handful of scents that I consider to be "me" scents -- like, I don't just like it, it actually seems like it's at home on me. Like we're in harmony. Does that make sense? I get that feeling that someone who'd seen me but had never met me before would say "Yep, that's exactly what I expected you to smell like." I only have two decants of this, and I really, really wish I had more.
highgarden Report post Posted March 5, 2018 Freshly applied, it was gorgeous dark chocolate and spicy caramel. The spice got stronger as the day went out until sometime after lunch and I started wondering who was eating curry near my desk at work. SURPRISE, it was me. I smelled like curry. Alas, this is going on my swaps/sales list...
