shriekingviolet Report post Posted February 8, 2004 Category: Love Potions Site Description: A salacious, lecherous, leering scent - dirty and dark, slapped with a wet sweetness. Earthy black patchouli swelling with apricot. Initial Impression: Smells pretty much like the description says. Apricot tempered with dark patchouli. Sweet, yet dark and earthy. After Wearing It: Something about this fragrances makes the word "pedophile" pop up in my head. Maybe because apricots and peaches make me think of innocence and little girls, but apricot with a strong line of patchouli sullies that image. Like lessons learned too early. That kind of shock you get when you're at the mall and you see all the 10 and 11 year olds whored up, or when you see middle aged men drooling over porn featuring "barely legal" stars. It's a sweet and fruity yet dirty scent. You want to warn your baby sisters away from it. So I guess it's a pretty good image for depraved. Final Thoughts: I'm not really big on the smell of apricots so this one wasn't for me. Might be nice for someone who was though.
jj_j Report post Posted February 8, 2004 Actually, I liked the apricot note, and I even liked how the black ptachouli fought with it when I first put it on. The patchouli took over in less than two minutes, though, and the apricot disappeared about five minutes later. If I could keep the first impression going throughout, I'd wear this on days I just want to be difficult and throw people off balance because I'm in a snit. allamanda Report post Posted March 19, 2004 (edited) Depraved I can't add much to the above description and reviews. When applied almond, apricot after a while amber and something smokey / musky in there too, nice. Dries down to a lovely, earthy, apricot. I really like this a lot. lorajc Report post Posted March 29, 2004 I like this one. I am liking all of the apricot scents so far. This was a nice rounded blend of patchouli and apricot. I was surprised that the apricot stayed so strong on wearing it, but it actually did. Not really much else to say about this one. It is one that I'd have to be in the mood to wear. I don't really know what kind of mood though.
Lady_Ell Report post Posted March 30, 2004 (edited) I was unsure of this at first, because the patchouli really pierced my nose with a sharp, unpleasant, kind of spearing and bitter bite. But I waited for about 10 minutes and it mellowed nicely to undercut the sweetness of the apricot, and really mesh well with it. This will be for when I'm in a kind of snarky and bad mood and want to stay in such a mood, I think. A perfume for when I need to be bitchy. Edited later to add: Although this seemed to work for a while that day, I think that patchouli and I don't get along very well. At the end of the day I ended up smelling like soggy, dead plants. clephan Report post Posted March 30, 2004 This is just... amazing on me. Something about it in the bottle grabbed the happy part of my brain and tweaked. It had a similar can't-stop-sniffing quality as Gluttony, quite addictive. It's enveloping and rich and just very wonderful. The apricot is mellow and sweet, and the patchouli smells less overpowering and sharper than any I've encountered before: I normally get a 'generic Goth bedroom' impression from patchouli but this is a much more mellow version. Adorable.
chai_girl Report post Posted April 2, 2004 I'm still a bit undecided on this one. The apricot and patchouli seem to be balanced on me. The image I'm getting is a bowl of fresh ripe fruit in a house that has been closed up for a while. The fruit is there, fresh and sweet, but there is a definite musky/earthiness about it. I'm not sure this is a keeper for me. It is a very interesting scent though.
lavinia_short Report post Posted April 22, 2004 this was really interesting on me... when i first put it on, it smelled like black pepper, for about 30 minutes or so. then it turned it to out and out strong patchouli. and now, after about 7 hours, it's all apricot, and really really lovely.... this is one that i'll definitely be ordering a large bottle of! ViolentKitten Report post Posted May 12, 2004 (edited) The apricot is almost candy sweet first on, but a few minutes later, earthy patchouli sidles right on in and almost, but not quite, takes over. It’s not a dirty patchouli to me though, it’s a kind of fresh earthy patchouli, if that makes sense, almost soft, with the apricot poking out around the sides. Actually, what it really reminds me of, is ripe apricots, who’ve burst their skins, fallen into freshly turned soil. An unusual and lovely combination! It’s not one I’d wear a lot as I don’t find myself often in the mood for it, but when I do, I like wearing it with green! twistygirl Report post Posted June 15, 2004 This is so yummy and juicy. The apricot is a very good, true apricot, and the patchouli tempers it just enough so that it's not overwhelmingly sweet. The apricot has stayed true on me for several hours now, but it's a mellow, spiced apricot that is just divine. Highly recommended.
grrrlennyl Report post Posted June 24, 2004 depraved at first: apricot (i think...). then, something odd. something that doesn't seem like it should be there. unsettling. i'm liking it. on: that same dirty apricoty smell. really fabulous and different. i think i'm getting addicted to the smell. 1 hour later: it's starting to lose its fruity edge, but it's still a bit apricot-y. i love that it's really deep and dark underneath the apricot. 2 hours later: still as disturbing as when i put it on. the apricot has further receded to the background, but is still present. i can't stop myself from sniffing my wrists. i just looked it up, and dark dirtyness i'm smelling is black patchouli. lovely! i may have to get a 5ml bottle of this one. 3 hours later: a lot softer now. the patchouli is definitely more dominant. this is definitely one that needs to be reapplied. overall: i LOVE this! without a doubt, i'll be ordering a 10ml of this in my next order. it's just makes me feel dirty (in a good way) when i wear it. fabulous! Jenmaha Report post Posted June 30, 2004 Well, when I first opened up the imp and smelled it, I was totally turned off. It was way too strong, and too mingled to be able to tell what was going on. A couple of weeks later, I decided to try it out again, and LOVE at second sniff!!!! The apricot is slightly sweet, and dry, and the patchouli is amazing. Normally, I'm not a big patchouli fan....it's too overpowering and gives me headaches. This, though, is lovely. It smells like wonderful old wood in the sun...warm and dry and earthy and spicy all at once, not to mention very clean. I feel sensual, but not slutty, sweet but not cloying, clean but not cold.....SIGH!!!
Eris Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Whoa, is the lab's description right on for this one. Literally. I've never smelled anything that really seemed dirty before, but you can actually smell dirt when this first goes on. It's mingled with the apricot, which is very sweet, and their overall combination just makes for a bizarre bombardment of scents. As it dries, the patchouli really comes out, but it's just a bit too peppery for me. I think green patchouli works better with my chemistry. Overall, this scent is incredibly unique, but not one I'd really want to wear.
Effluvia Report post Posted July 16, 2004 in the vial: (sniff) ...Pie?? Or some kind of peach juice drink. Both of which have some lovely spices/herbs in the background. YUM. wet, on my skin: (smellgasm) (cries) HOLY SHIT....I have become instantaneously addicted to this scent. You know when you've found a BPAL that is actually your world manifested in a scent? This is definitely one of those for me. I can't even begin to describe it...it's such a specific emotion captured inside the scent...I can't decide if this is my world or the world I'd like to be in (sort of like the first time you listened to the Cocteau Twins). It's the darkest, most destructive kind of sexuality, and it's breathtakingly beautiful and SO SAD. This is the romanticism of tragedy (if that makes any sense). dry, on my skin: The apricot hasn't really faded, it's just blended flawlessly into the herby/spiciness. This is a bit like the yummiest tea you'll ever drink. Alright, I'm done with the nonsensical rambling now. I'm SO buying a 5 or 10 ml of this in my next order!!! Lizabet Report post Posted July 16, 2004 My nose is still quite untrained, so I'm still trying to figure out what things are smelling like but this one is actually quite clear to me so here goes nothing. In the vial the apricot and patchouli is mixing, creating something with a hint of spice and dirt. Doesn't seem very strong, but I try and be conservative anyway - my nose is rather sensitive. Wet, much much stronger than anticipating. My husband comments that I smell like a Strawberry Shortcake character. The apricot has almost completely overwhelmed the patchouli, but there must be something affecting it as the apricots smell overripe - as if they are about to burst. Dry, still quite strong. I'm starting to get a headache so I had to wash most of it off. Now there is a very faint smell of apricots, just enough to smell yummy - especially since some got into my hair when I put it on my neck. This seems to be lingering longer than the one on my skin. All in all, probably not something I'd wear often unless I perfect putting on a minimal amount.
Alice Aforethought Report post Posted August 7, 2004 I ordered this as I love Imp (peach and patchouli.) This is like Imp's sweeter, cheekier younger sister. Instead of Imp's love of the mysterious and the come-hither sideways look, Depraved calmly steps up and gives a big grin. First on, anyway - as it dries down, she becomes more earthy. It is sensual but direct. This lass want her tumble, and she's chosen you lol! There's more of a dry kick of myrrh or something about this one to its fuzzy firm fruit, rather than the slightly overripe headiness and juiciness of Imp. Depraved goes so well with my body chemistry, I think I actually prefer her to Imp! And I love Imp!
Bratkat Report post Posted August 10, 2004 the Bpal description for DEPRAVED is absolutely perfect. the apricot note was a surprise making it a very bearable, wearble patchouli. a drop lightly rubbed on hands run through hair (so others catch a whiff and enjoy) lasts all day. another tiny drop daubed on pulsepoints for self-serving sniffing all day. a gorgeous and very unusual combination. My favorite oil so far ! I will wear a lot and get many 5ml or 10 ml bottles.
tart Report post Posted August 14, 2004 Oh, I wanted to love this one. The idea of black patchouli and apricot together sounded so naughty... I put Depraved on, and it was just me and the earthy patchouli. Fruity apricot never arrived. Oddly enough, this smelled very much like Intrigue on me (black palm, with cocoa, fig and shadowy wooded notes). The smell was nice and wearable, but not what I thought it would be. I was expecting a clash of peach and black, but instead got a soft and smooth scent.
Ceridwen Report post Posted August 16, 2004 I received an Imp of Depraved in a swap. I didn't expect to like it because I'm generally not fond of apricot or patchouli, but the name interested me. The user who said the scent had connotations of paedohphilia (sp) was pretty accurate with that description. The first time I wore it I could smell a sharp note, almost like pine, with a soft apricot behind it. This settled down later and the apricot note became more prominent. I really like this now, and wear it as an everyday perfume. Would love a 5ml of Depraved one day.
hypothermya Report post Posted August 17, 2004 First Impression That's the apricot. I recognize that from Katharina, but it isn't nearly as bright, sharp, or warm. Instead it's rich fruit and this wet earthiness underneath it. Smells good. Wearing It This is a *very* dirty scent. When I was reading the reviews, I kept seeing that phrase and wondering, "What's that supposed to mean?" I guess now I know. It smells... like something sweet and innocent that's been allowed to see the world. Like an image of a raggedly dressed teenager with dark, knowing eyes, who still could be mistaken for a girl angel if you saw her stepping out of the shower. Normally this type of patchouli stays very "wet" smelling on me, but this one dries down to smell like dry dirt and a hint of apricots. It *almost* smells like my mother's compost, except not nearly so foul. It's got enough apricot, though, to instead smell like an apricot that's perfectly ripe but has been tumbled through the dry dusty dirt. Having tried out two scents with patchouli today (this and Ravenous), I'd have to say that I prefer the red patchouli to the dark patchouli. There's something about this blend that turns the patchouli to dust on my skin. And while I do love apricot scents from the Lab, I have to say that Katharina comes out on top for that category. I could see wearing this if I wanted to come off as more deviant, dirty, and less perky than Katharina, though...
LiberAmoris Report post Posted August 30, 2004 In Depraved there’s the deep, rich smell of earth turned up underfoot (patchouli) and a sweetness that’s both innocent and knowing (apricot). Together, they smell more to me like a longing for depravity than depravity achieved. If I sniff my arm, I get the smell of pencil shavings, but the waft is of a crushed apricot dredged in moist, dark soil. There’s something incredibly sexy and tangible about this scent that reminds me of a summer I spent misbehaving with a guy I worked with at the local pool. When the sun went down, we would drive to the woods where we would climb to a platform in the trees that overlooked an enormous waterfall. In Depraved I can smell the same mixture of wood and the warm current of sweetness given off by skin. Now I'm going to have to try Imp!
Ina Garten Davita Report post Posted August 30, 2004 First Impression: Depraved is the long lost triplet of March Hare and Imp. Second Impression: Where Imp worked on my skin and March Hare has become my signature room fragrance, Depraved pulls double duty. It smells great on me and around me. The apricot is thick, sweet and juicy with the patchouli keeping it from getting sickly. It's definitely the naughtiest and sexiest of the three. Final analysis: I have a bottle of Imp. When it runs out I'll order Depraved for a change.
Nepthys Report post Posted September 5, 2004 This smells to me exactly like too-ripe fruit and fresh earth. I wasn't sure it would work on me but this dries down to smell pretty much as it did in the bottle, salacious and playful. It reminds me of summer days when the sun warms the ground and fruit intensely enough to coax forth their odor and there's just a faint tinge of rot. Like when you see what looks like a beautiful ripe peach on the ground and you turn it over and it's already swarming with insects. Note: this was immensely popular with my coworkers. Miggins Report post Posted September 15, 2004 I really really like Depraved in the wet. Lovely zingy apricot notes with a slight hint of something earthier. However, the patchouli elbowed its way through on the drydown and then refused to go, making Depraved smell like expensive yummy jam with mould on it. to my skin. Splendid Molerat Report post Posted September 15, 2004 Depraved has established itself as one of my favourite travelling/running around town perfumes. There's something sexy and naked in the intersection of patchouli and apricot. On me it reminds me of a long summer day out in the sun, and a clean sweat-plus-pollen skin scent -- especially if the day involved, let's say, a roll in the tall grass. It encourages the mind to go off on strange tangents, and I think the name really suits it.
