Jasmine Cottage

Recommended Posts

She'd rented the cottage furnished, which meant that the actual furniture was the special sort you find in these circumstances and had probably been left out for the dustmen by the local War on Want shop. It didn't matter. She didn't expect to be here long.

If Agnes was right, she wouldn't be anywhere long. Nor would anyone else.

Camellia, jasmine, heather, orange blossom, osmanthus, wisteria, thyme, angelica, freesia, granny’s nightcap, and English wildflowers.

straight sniff from imp is a fresh, lush, green wildflower meadow...gorgeousness!

once applied i sense dandelions and tulips as well...this remains beautiful on the skin ....

do not let the name of this scent have you thinking this scent is loaded with jasmine...in fact,
i only get the slightest whisper, if really any at all...

if you like superbly green/floral scents, this beauty is for you... :P

I adore floral scents! Just over two years ago, first BPAL that captured my heart was Flower Moon and I've since padded my favorites list with numurous other lush floral blends. It looks like I'm going to need to make room for another, because Jasmine Cottage is fabulous.

Bright, beautiful floral notes mingling happily in the garden. There is herbal greenery supporting the bountiful blossoms but it is floral that captures the essence of a natural environment, rather than a suggesting the scent of a cut arrangement from a florist's shop. It's a delicate fragrance without being shy, for it blooms strongly upon the skin and lasts for several hours. I've been wearing it for about 9 hours now and though the throw has greatly diminished, I can still catch the lovely aroma when I put my nose closer to my arm.

As far as picking out specific notes, Jasmine Cottage is really well blended - all the components play nicely together without trying to shove one another out of the spotlight. I can tell it has jasmine, but as sookster mentioned in her review it's not at all that high-pitched piercing arrow between your eyes kind of jasmine. I also get a good sense for the sweetness of the freesia and the dry herbal tone of the heather. Nothing is overpowering.

Lovely, completely and utterly so. I'm very happy I sprung for a bottle of Jasmine Cottage! :P

Jasmine Cottage was one of the prototypes that I really liked at Will Call, so I was delighted to spring for a bottle...and it's every bit as delicious as the ladies above have noted. Floral and green, not too sweet, and beautifully blended. My short review after application reads "Wildflowers and open fields and cottage gardens. Killer green floral", and as it dries it's settling nicely, no morphing to speak of.

subtle jasmine--nothing too sweet, just pretty. What I like best is the greenery involved in this scent! It smells like flowers and green stems. It is a bit short lived, though...i wish it lasted longer. I might buy a bottle of this one! It's nice to find Gaiman scents that smell nice on me...Witch Queen and Jasmine Cottage are the only two I have really liked so far!

I am so thrilled that this holds so much complexity and I should have known better than to think that Jasmine Cottage would be, well, mostly jasmine. While the jasmine is definitely present, it's not dominant. I get a bevy of airy and watery florals, a touch of grass, and the essence of a cottage surrounded by wildflowers of every color. There comes a point in time where each floral is noticeable and makes its move for center stage before moving back to mingle with the rest. My favorite parts are the orange blossom and wisteria. The heather and thyme add an almost grassy quality to the mix of florals. This is an evocative floral blend that has a wild, country vibe to it.

The only note I can smell in Jasmine Cottage is..jasmine! Which I'm happy about though, as jasmine is one of my favourite smells.

This reminds me a lot of The Passionate Shepherd at first-- I'm sure it's the green grassiness. The overall mental image that I get, though, is of clover. As in, when I was young and used to sit in the clover patches in my yard, looking for 4-leaf clovers and making necklaces out of the flowers. Where the Shepherd was a bit overpowering for me, though, this is absolutely perfect.

once it starts interacting with my skin, the grassiness fades off and it turns into a gorgeous light floral. No particular note stands out to me, although I'm really surprised to find out that there are no lilies in this one. It does turn a little soapy (which isn't a bad thing in my mind) and I think it's usually lily that I get that from.

I amp jasmine like crazy (which is ok, since I love jasmine 90% of the time) and I don't even get a whiff of it in this blend, so I don't think you jasmine-haters need to worry.

This is absolutely beautiful, and it's going to the top of my "Buy a bottle of this as soon as humanly possible" list.

This scent does not use the same kind of jasmine that I've found disappointing in other BPAL blends. It is not the sharp, piercing type of jasmine; it's the smooth, heady, dewy, fresh blossom.

However, the jasmine note is not a dominant force, as others have pointed out. For this reason, I was pretty bummed out the first time I sampled it, because (good) jasmine is one of my favorite notes.

The second time I tried it, I kept more of an open mind. I had the scent description in front of me as a guide as it wafted up to me, ready for examination.

Jasmine Cottage is a beautiful symphony of wildflowers and herbs and greenery. I can pick up notes as I focus on them, including freesia, orange blossom, wisteria, and heather. As a whole, they blend together to create a happy, sunshiney flower garden. This is a joyful blend, and would be perfect on a fresh, bright spring day.

I like it a lot, but it's raining out today, so I'm going to save the full-on-slather test for nicer weather.

JASMINE COTTAGE

In Bottle: Light sweet floral

On Skin: The jasmine in this is actually very tame, a nice soft violet feel. The English Wildflowers sum up the scent for me, I smell florals in a cool English field in the countryside after a short spell of rain. Very clean, pretty and fresh. I love how these florals blend so well and are kept under control. The thyme adds just the perfect amount of “greenery” to the scent. Overall, I get a violet feel with a light green sprinkle. It has a light throw and short to average wearlength.

Jasmine Cottage

In the imp: a very green grassy and sharp floral. This has the potential to totally soap/sour on me.

Wet on skin: ack, sour florals and bitter greenery!

Dry on skin: soapy flowers and bitter, acid greenery. This is no good on me at all. It reminds me of Her Voice and the drydown of the Passionate Shepherd, also a bit of One to Tie, and of course, this has a jasmine note that seems to be turning bad on me. It’s got a hint of that florist shop scent, but overall this is a mix of bitter soap that I really dislike. I’m not sure if it’s the jasmine, heather, or wildflowers doing this, maybe a mix of several things. But it’s pretty much failing on my skin.

After a while: this does seem to fade a bit but it’s still florals and crushed bitter weeds on my skin. The green aspect isn’t so bad now. I do smell quite a strong dandelion note here-maybe that’s one of the wildflowers? But it actually really smells of dandelion and jasmine for now. And there’s a floral note here which is really soapy. This actually reminds me of one of the green-floral Tarot scents.

And then, poof, it completely vanishes. No more flowers, grass, dandelions, soapiness…next to nothing, actually.

Verdict: this was just a floral mess on my skin. Some florals I can do, but not this one…it seems the flowery scents with strong green stem/grass/florist shop nuances tend to turn really bitter, soapy, acrid and wilted once they hit my skin. This one does this. Maybe it’s the jasmine, maybe it’s the wildflowers, but this smells harsh and like an unfriendly tangle of weeds to me. it’s a shame because I love the smell of fresh flowers and greenery in nature. The scent also fades incredibly fast-in two hours, the scent pretty much disappears. Not my thing.

Emoticon rating: :P

Is it a keeper? No.

If you like this, try: Her Voice, Eos, The Passionate Shepherd, New Orleans, One to Tie, The East

In Vial: green floral

Wet: This smellls aquatic to me without the saltiness. It really is lovely.

Dry: It has faded quite alot but is still very pretty. It may smell a tiny bit aquatic now but mostly green floral. It is very nice, but will need to try again to decide if I need a bottle.

I think that this is pretty heavy on the jasmine and heather for me, and jasmine tends to smell pretty awful on me. Jasmine Cottage reminds me a little bit of The Passionate Shepherd to His Love and Glasgow at first, only heavier and more sickly-sweet. On me, this is a really heavy scent with a lot of throw, and it gave me a headache. I wound up scrubbing it off about about an hour, when it started going especially funky on me. Something about it reminded me of dirty rest stop bathrooms where the smell is halfway covered up by floral soap and disinfectant. :P

This definitely isn't a winner on me, but I have a hard time pulling off heavy florals and, especially, jasmine. This blend is just cloying and goes all wrong on my skin.

Hmm, this one amps a lot of jasmine on me, but not overwhelmingly so. It's light and gently fragant. So light that I would have to reapply several times during the day if I want to wear this out and about. Throw is below average, but it is so sweet in scent and its character itself is sweet, gentle and happy. This rates as a nice one as I explore the more feminine scents.

i can't stand jasmine and i don't care for orange blossom. i'm honestly not sure what some of the other notes should smell like.

initial sniff: floral candle

on skin: jasmine-y floral candle

final drydown: floral soap

thoughts: on a few select few, i have a feeling this will be gorgeous. i'm not one of them.

In the bottle: Extremely pale yellow, nearly colourless oil. Jasmine, orange blossom, herbs, powdery feminine florals. Slightly sweet.

Wet: Powdery angelica and wisteria merge with the soapy jasmine. The orange blossom, freesia and osmanthus are light and sweet. Thyme and heather are cool, green and fresh. Smooth, slightly piney tea.

Dry: Much more herbal, with the thyme and heather coming out majorly - I'm reminded of The Phantom Queen. The tea note is the slick one from Manhattan. Still, this is pretty strongly floral soap.

Later: The angelica (which is sort of fennel-like) is quite strong in this, and it has definitely amped. Unfortunately, so has the wisteria powder of doom.

Summary: Evilly strong powdery wisteria, sweet powdery angelica, & soapy jasmine dominate. Thyme and heather below add fresh herbal notes, but lightly. The osmanthus, orange blossom, and freesia are woefully light. Powdery floral-herbal soap, on the whole. Strong throw & longevity.

This is far more aquatic in the imp than I expected-a bit salty and ozoney green floral. Huh...

The saltiness fades on my skin, but this is still far more aquatic-y than I expected...I'm not sure which note this is to be honest. It's still kind of pretty, but aquatics just don't mesh with my skin chemistry well! The jasmine, which can amp on me sometimes, is not strong in this at all.

Overall, this was not exactly what I expected-on my skin it was a breezy green aquatic (not salty aquatic on dry-down at all!) floral-very hard to describe note-wise. If jasmine scares you off, I wouldn't worry about it in this blend!

I expected this to be a much more intensely jasmine blend. But I was pleasantly surprised...there's a bit of jasmine present, but it's only a supporting player. Mostly it smells like wildflowers, and pale sunshine and fresh air. Really lovely!

My first favorite scent (and topping off Incendia today) - a beautiful jasmine floral blend. Not overtly jasmine on me - I can most definetly smell the greenery & open-air flower meadow vibe. As I left this morning DH said I smelled good (and, apparently, that's as good as it gets). <img src="http://www.bpal.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="icon_biggrin.gif" />

That wonderfully evil Tramp gave me the rest of her bottle that had 2 imps left, so I can enjoy it as much as I want! (Although, knowing her bpal ocd, she probably has another bottle stashed away somewhere <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> )

7-14-09 - this goes WONDERFULLY with BPTP Incendia bath oil - the jasmines blend so nicely!

9-15-10 - wearing it today with Lush Jungle lotion - the greens compliment each other wonderfully!

In the bottle, I'm getting very perfumy florals and herbs. On my skin, Jasmine Cottage is really herby and soapy, unfortunately, not a good sign for what might come. We'll see what happens. Ends up being a perfumy herbal floral, similar to Allison Gross. Not anything that works for me.

I wanted to love and adore this one so much, I got a bottle, unsniffed, because it was my DH's first choice for when he would get around to getting me a present of BPAL...

Wet and in the first 2 hours of wear:

It is so incredibly green crushed leaves on me.. it's as if someone cut down an English garden, got rid of the flowers, took all the fresh green leaves, macerated it and then made perfume from it. I don't get any jasmine, no freesia, orange blossom or thyme... no florals at all, just this greenery.

As it starts to fade, some shy, gentle florals come out.. but not enough for me to take notice..

sigh.

I don't know if anyone has any idea if this might age well.... I will keep trying it periodically because I refuse to give up on it, but very young from the lab, it just does not go well :cry2:

In the imp: very green, light floral, almost "plasticky" but not unpleasantly so. It sort of reminded me of a "Liddlekiddle", those tiny dolls from the 60's and 70's that sometimes came perfumed.

On drydown, it lost a lot of the green and the plastic scent, and became a very light, lovely floral. Unfortunately, it's so light that I think I'm losing it. Meh.

If it sticks around, I might consider a bottle of this one.
