BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

Golden rum, apricot liquor, pineapple, pomegranate, ginger, brandy, grapefruit, and pink lime.

I open the bottle and if I close my eyes I could be lying ont he beach on a distant island somewhere sipping apricot flavoured cocktails. I have to resist the urge to take a swig from the bottle.

The grape fruit screams from my skin, but I LOVE it!!! My nose is stuffy it at the moment, so I'm sure it'll smell different in a day or so when I can smell properly again

EDIT: Sadly does not work on me - smells great though 3/29/10

In the bottle: Oh yum... smells like fresh pineapple juice with rum :wub2:

Wet on skin: Not as strong as in the bottle, but still lots o pineapples! The grapefruit comes out now, and ohhh... this is the perfect summer scent. I'd love to wear this while basking in the sun with a margarita. Yum!

Dry on skin: A little softer now, the grapefruit and citrus scents are still present. Overall it smells like a fruity alcoholic beverage.

In the LE bottle: A very pleasant combination of all the notes. It's difficult to pick out just one.

Wet: Very much as in the bottle. The rum and the liquor are the base notes, with all the fruits mashed up in a yummy concoction. The pink lime, the ginger, and the brandy are keeping this from being too heady, too sweet, too fruity. Very well-blended.

The dry-down: If this was a drink, instead of a perfume oil, I would like it. I can see myself sitting by a pool on a tropical island somewhere warm, a nice mix of clouds and sun overhead, and having a pleasant day with no worries as I sip on my drink. :) Oh, look, there's a pop of ginger. Yum!

This decant is well past expiration date :(. Luckily there are vague wafts of scent which trigger memories of how it smelled when it first came to me way back when.

Fruity fruity goodness! The combo of fruits almost smells peachy, and a tiny bit of spiced rum (the description says golden rum, but it smells lightly spiced to me) brings the sweetness a little closer to earth without grounding it. Because, really, who wants a grounding alcoholic beverage? I will definitely get a new decant now that it's GC. Maybe even a bottle.

In The Bottle

Boozy, boozy rum and lime

On Application

Definitely fruity with the rum. The lime keeps it from becoming super syrupy

Dry Down

This is an amazing morpher on me. From the initial burts of rum and fruit it changes to strong ginger and then if goes kind of perfumey floral before the ginger comes back. I kind of like it but I hope it ages nicely.

Rating (0-5)

3.5

In bottle: Grapefruit dominant. It is very sharp and strong. With the lime, the citrus element in this may simply be too much, but we’ll see. I’m liking the ginger and apricot here. Wet: A bit more boozy on my skin. The pomegranate helps the grapefruit back down and gives it a better rounded effect. I’m really liking it all of a sudden. I think it’s the play between the ginger, apricot, pomegranate, and rum. It’s warm, sweet, soft, and bright. The citrus is definitely contributing to the sunny feel in a good way without overwhelming the more delicate elements. I was not impressed in the bottle, but it’s delightful on my skin. It manages to feel like a light wood or incense, without actually containing any. Who knew these elements would add up to something so much more than the component parts? Dry: Less spectacular on the dry down, but still pleasant. It’s now apricot dominant, with ginger, citrus, and rum. It’s still summery and breezy, though more delicate.

Pineapple and lime and booze. Light application, cause this could be made of lots of fail. On my skin, pineapple and lime and booze. And urgh.

Moreso than the other tiki bar blends that I tried, I found this one to be "busy."

Wet, a big juicy mix of fruits with the apricot and citrus standing out next to the pineapple. I'm actually getting a noticeable spike of ginger, and it really stands out next to all these juicy fruits. This one was also sweeter to my nose than many of the other tiki bar blends, I suppose because I find the rum note a bit more cloying than the other alcohol notes, which tend to cut through the fruits.

As it dries, it becomes mostly apricot with a kick of booze and ginger spice, and starts reminding me of the March Hare if he were really, really drunk.

I was scared initially because of the name, but this isn't screeching at all. Warm, golden, haze inducing citrus booze. Apricot and grapefruit come out giving me that grapefruity tang taste on my tongue.

GC edition

Immediately: BUBBLEGUM. That backs off and it's very juicy--pomegranate and apricot liquor without its kick. Very light and happy feel though, a ginger nibbling around the edges. Over all not bad, but nothing to go crying home about

(this is my review of the gc version of this scent, my original review is here.)

imp: ginger-apricot rum. :yum:

wet: this is a gorgeous ginger-apricot-grapefruit scent. this reminds me of alice's evidence.

dry: yup, on the drydown this reminds me more and more of alice's evidence. i think i've fallen in love with one of my favorite scents all over again!

GC Version

I smell rum and pineapple and something else fruity in the imp, but once it hits my skin, Screeching Parrot practically evaporates. All it leaves behind is a ghost of a froofy frosted drink and a note that smells almost like clove.

in the imp: smells like a sweet juice mix with indian food sitting next to it. very odd

wet on skin: less indian food, more juiciness.

initial drydown: mmm...very sour/bitter. like slicing open a fresh lime. bright and fizzy.

late drydown: it's over an hour later but this still smells like fresh happy citrus! i really like it.

This was the very first BPAL scent that I ever tried, and it got me hooked!

In the Imp: The notes that leap out at me the most are the golden rum, apricot liquor and the grapefruit. It smells fruity with that hint of oozy sweetness from the rum.

Wet: First thing I noticed is that the ginger and brandy get kicked up a notch, but the apricot liquor, grapefruit and golden rum are still just as present. It smells syrupy and boozy with just a hint of sweet tartness from the fruit.

Dry: The fruits back down a little, leaving a wonderfully warm, boozy glow. I happen to love the golden rum, and there is just enough residual fruitiness to balance it out perfectly. Love it!

I personally like it at all three stages, although my favorite is the drydown stage. One of my absolute favorites!

In the GC imp: Rum and brandy splashed over the fruit sections.

Wet: Fruity liquor--what more could you ask for?

The dry-down: Rather much the same as when wet. I get subtle hints of all the fruit, with the rum, liquor, and brandy splashed over them and filling up the glass. There might be a hint of ginger. I'll have to test the LE (which I reviewed further up the thread) and this GC side-by-side at some point, but I think there's a bit of a difference, but not too much. Aging may have indeed made a difference.

In the Imp: That is some kind of spiced, boozy grapefruit. Not bad.

Wet: The ginger combined with the juicy fruit and booze somehow make this like gum to me. A little goofy, like "cinnamon pinapple grapefruit punch!!" or some other cheesy name a company would come up with, but you know what? It's a darn good fruity bubblegum. :P

Dry: Essentially the same, with the grapefruit (and possibly pineapple) remaining dominant and the ginger right behind.

Overall: Not really my style, but it's not a funky or "cheap" smelling scent. Obviously for someone fun-loving and playful. Yummy fruits with a warm kick.

When I think of what Bora Bora must be like, I think of this scent - boozy, clean, fresh, slightly sweet and spicy - in other words, heaven.

How could I pass this up when I live with a screeching parrot?

new250-1.jpg

(That's Lestat chewing a packing peanut from the box my TAL bath oils arrived in. But I digress.)

This is a tart, boozy and fruit-punchy scent perfect for summer! Whatever pink lime is, I like it, and I definitely get the zingy tartness from it. Sometimes pineapple can go cloying on me but here it's kept in check by the citrus. There is a delicious rum note reminiscent of Grog but more "golden" and bright. I get plenty of juicy apricot as well, and just a hint of ginger but nothing sharp. I think if my parrot were human he'd approve.

In the bottle: Fruity tropical drink!

Immediately after application: Pineapple and grapefruit primarily, a little booze from the rum and brandy and maybe a bit of the lime. I can't make out the pomegranate or ginger specifically. I wish to be laying on a Hawaiian beach RIGHT NOW.

Warming up: The ginger's come out now so it smells like spicy fruit. It pretty much smells freaking amazing.

Fading: Spicy, fruity, a touch of rum. LOVE.

Faded: Still getting wafts of fruity tropical nom hours later.

Overall: ABSOLUTE LOVE. I want to hunt down a bottle now. I am so sad that I lost out on a bottle of this a couple weeks ago by about 10 minutes. I was bidding on it and got distracted. The other person won it for like $12 and it was a brand-new full bottle *weeps* Lime is often hit or miss on me, turning either weirdly powdery or sour or acidic and chemical. Apparently pink lime doesn't do that or there was enough of the other fruit to keep it in check.

so strange. so nice. booze cherries in imp...cinnamon rum on the skin.

what's really weird is that other reviews are saying koolaid, and i'm the queen of amping koolaide which i normally love. i love the way this sounds...but it's more like samhain or harvest moon than tropical fruity drink. i almost want more fruity drink from this. actually it really reminds me of garden gnome.

On my skin this was all pineapple, and oddly with all the notes listed that's all I got!! I waited for different notes to pop up but nothing else showed up! Weird I know. It was just light pineapple juice. Beautiful label though!

Swapped an imp from a lovely forum member. :)

Wow, spicy and fruity! Very bright and sweet, a tropical cocktail! That pineapple and golden rum in this are the stand-outs and I'm definately getting the bite of that pink grapefruit and lime in there. This is beautiful.

My skin ruins this by making it sickeningly sweet and artificial. Whyyyy. :c

Just bought a BNNU bottle after previously having only an imp from some long-forgotten decant circle. Age has changed this one for sure. Wet, it's super apricot-grapefruit; very juicy and chewy. Makes your tongue curl up lie when you taste a lemon. No ginger or rum in this one. As it dries down, it becomes very light. There's a little bit of spiciness now, but the overall impression I have is "pink". I remember this being much boozier and spicier, but apparently it doesn't hold up well. Hopefully the Lab will do another Atomic Luau.

Where I'd wear this: To a swim-up tiki bar

First note I get : PINK LIME. I didn't know what that would smell like, but this tart almost floral citrus zap has GOT to be pink lime. It's like all the worst scents are compiling on this one for me. Pomegranate is adding a tart edge, lime is adding sour. There's a zippy pep to this scent, but this lingering threatening clean/floral/powder from somewhere that's ready to overtake in moments.

Nothing like how it smells in the imp - which is a rich, fruity, promising scent. Really disappointing for me.

Verdict - Bright bubbly sour/tart drink. Hints of a soapy edge on me that's scaring me away.
