BPAL Madness!

Oak, tonka, vanilla, white sandalwood, lily of the valley, white ginger, amber, and apricot.

Could this be?.... is it.. love?

I was a little wary right out of the bottle. The vanilla and sandalwood was all good but I wondered about the masculine oak and tonka.

On my skin it warmed into a beautiful sweet vanilla that doesn't scream VANILLA at you. Reminds me of a darkly lit library. Oh I love!!!!

This is very woody with a a slight sharpness that I can't place at the wet stage, but it mellows out beautifully about 10 minutes after application. It becomes this gorgeous slightly fruity vanilla. I can definitely smell the apricots, which make this much more interesting than more generic vanilla scents.

I was nervous about the lily of the valley, as I tend to shy away from most florals, but I don't notice that note at all.

There's something very unusual and appealing about this...

In the bottle, sandalwood and amber.

Wet on my skin, this is really amber-y. I like amber, but I was worried when I first applied it, because it was leaning very powdery.

Fortunately, after about 5 minutes the powder factor disappears and I'm left with a warm, golden vanilla. Getting just the faintest whispers of apricot and oak. The ginger is not asserting itself -- I can't really pick out a ginger note, but I do get a vague spiciness and a lot of warmth which I'm crediting to the ginger. Not getting the lily of the valley at all, which is fine by me. The scent is sticking very close to my skin, but then again I didn't apply very much (it does seem to lose throw as it dries down, though).

Verdict: once it dries down, this is a beautiful non-foody vanilla. It's bright, warm, smooth, and golden. Very glad to have a bottle!

♔ Haloes

In the Bottle: Peachy apricot, sweet amber and slight sugared light woods

Wet: Almost instantly upon application, there is a bright burst of rich and indulgent vanilla, blended expertly with a decadent and most certainly glowing perfume-y apricot blanketed by a light, wispy sugared sandalwood. The white sandalwood is lightly touched by the gentlest wisp of florals, and a very smooth vanilla and apricot.

Drydown: The ginger in this blend just sparkles with the sandalwood, and I don't get any zing that would otherwise repulse me. It’s just so beautiful and rich , not quite foody. Just breathless. The apricot in this is definitely perfumey and sweet, maybe even slightly creamy in the presence of the sandalwood an vanilla- but not overpowering any of the other notes. Freaking masterpiece. Absolutely peachy golden ray-of-sunlight kind of scent. It reminds me of my non-biological twin. This is the scent I enabled her with ^~^ So it’s quite a special scent for me…warm, soft, glow-y and snuggly secure...kind of like how I feel around her.

TL;DR: Sugary, golden, perfume-y apricot/peach woods

When wet, this is very similar on me to Phyillocrania Paradoxa v1 or Elf v4 - a light, dry vanilla blend.

Sadly, it disappears quickly, and there's a bit of a plastic stage.

After about 10 min there's not much left, rather dusty and dry faint smelling vanilla on my wrist.

Very happy to have tried but kinda thankful this was a failure as I can knock off a rare from my potential wishlist.

I have heard much talk about Haloes being a favorite vanilla bpal by a lot of folks and I was lucky enough to get a bottle of it. I have tried several bpal vanilla blends and I haven't found any that I am in love with. I was told I must try Haloes!

Wet: Something is a bit sharp and almost cologne-like. I think it is the oak and sandalwood. The vanilla is not standing out much.

Dry (after about 10 minutes): All the sharpness/cologne smell from the wet stage is gone and it has morphed on my skin to a beautiful vanilla scent. No plastic, no "vanilla candle", and no foody vanilla smell. The vanilla is cradled softly by apricot and amber. It is absolutely gorgeous and very sophisticated.

The scent stays fairly close to the skin and doesn't have much throw (light to medium depending how much you slather), however the scent is very lovely. I am very happy to have a bottle of it. :wub3:

When I first got this years ago, I loved it. Different time, different skin chemistry, I suppose. Before, it read as a vanilla-apricot fragrance with a slight zing. Understated and mellow. On me now, it is extremely floral with a sharp, almost biting citrus and ginger undertone. Something tells me my partner could probably wear this (he always smells great in oils that don’t work for me for some reason!) and leave me jealous it works on him. Like many of you, this was a beloved scent. We’ll see if he enjoys it or if I will have to pass it on.
