judas_kiss Report post Posted September 19, 2005 I recently received Lucy's Kiss as a gimp from the lab. It was not my cup of tea, so I passed it on, but I remember it being a very gentle rose. The spice never showed up for me that I could remember, but that is b/c my skin pumps up the rose. It might be something to try, if you are so inclined. It made me think of baby pink roses, the scent was very delicate and fresh and not at all juicy. It was just too proper for me, I'm afraid. Share this post Link to post
sarada Report post Posted September 19, 2005 This might be a little off topic, but on a related note...are there any catalog scents that have rose and tobacco or rose and smoke as main notes? In addition to LiTA, I am wild about Gypsy Queen...I can't remember if there are any smoky rose or tobaccoy rose scents in the regular catalog though. Most roses are too sharp and floral for me...even Zombi, it's just been too sharp of a rose for me to wear regularly. Roses usually give me a headache unless there's lots of amber or tobacco to smooth it out. Share this post Link to post
shelldoo Report post Posted September 19, 2005 i would say black rose, whip, and lucy's kiss for a true rose, long lasting scent rose w/ tobacco? hmmm seance? not really tobacco but a incensy type smokiness to it. if i recall correctly Share this post Link to post
Maudeline Report post Posted September 21, 2005 (Sorry if the rose-seeking parts of this post should be under its scent-specific thread. If it should, I'll move it there.) I'm looking for two different kinds of rose perfume: one like an old-fashioned pink bud, sweet and girlish, and was wondering whether Lucy's Kiss would be like that? Secondly, I'm looking for a dark, heavy, blood red kind of rose, that can evoke vampiric imagery, and was considering Zombi, Whip and Blood Rose (Blood Countess and Blood Kiss also sound very evokative, although not as rosy as the others), and was wondering which would be the most suited. I'm also looking for a haunting, supernatual-evoking Victorian perfume -- would Ouija work? Share this post Link to post
Galen Report post Posted September 21, 2005 I've not tried many of those, but I can add London (also untried) to the ones you should ask about... Share this post Link to post
Orodemniades Report post Posted September 21, 2005 For pink, I'd go for Lucy's Kiss and maybe Kurukulla (I find it lotus-y). I adore Eve, but it's not pink or young for me. London and Moscow would do for Victorian. As for dark, Zombi will do... Share this post Link to post
joseybird Report post Posted September 21, 2005 For pink, Maiden fits the bill perfectly Share this post Link to post
Lady Ravenglass Report post Posted September 21, 2005 London and Lucy's Kiss again here, for pink and girly and sweetly, wistful rose. Lucy's Kiss has a hint of the dark to it, and I wish I hadn't swapped my bottle! On me, Maiden tends to be sweet, but white. Two, Five and Seven was too sweet and sickly, but it is rosey. Zombi takes folk differently - on me it was compost, but I know some find that the rose sings out well. My skin likes to take the nastiest note it can find and amp it up with a snigger. My skin is mean. Share this post Link to post
theshapeshifter Report post Posted September 21, 2005 Ouija definitely has that Victorian vibe going on. Sometimes it's all lilac on me, sometimes more rose. Share this post Link to post
darklorelei Report post Posted September 21, 2005 Victorian to me, but not rosy: Veil, and if you can get your hands on it, Lex Talionis. Share this post Link to post
shelldoo Report post Posted September 22, 2005 black rose, is the vampiric rose to me, also somewhat victorian...pink? i don't do pink so can't help ya Share this post Link to post
Scarlettfish Report post Posted September 22, 2005 Eve is pink roses on me, with a helping of apple blossom. Share this post Link to post
minilux Report post Posted September 22, 2005 You should definitely try Ouija and/or Seance. Share this post Link to post
spark Report post Posted September 22, 2005 I'll echo the London recommendation -- it's darker and richer to me, but some people find it lighter. It could go "pink" or "dark" on you. For dark, Othello is a possibility. Some people get more musk from it. I get very dark rich sexy gorgeous roses. Share this post Link to post
aedes Report post Posted September 22, 2005 For rose and spooky, I have to recommend Seance. Those are probably the first two words I'd use to describe it. It's absolutely lovely, too, in my humble opinion. Share this post Link to post
Miyabi Report post Posted September 22, 2005 London, definitely. It's the closest true rose scent I've found in BPAL so far. Share this post Link to post
judas_kiss Report post Posted September 22, 2005 For the pink rose, I would go with Lucy's Kiss, hands down. That's pretty much what I imagined with it on. Very pretty, very lady-like. For a more vampiric rose, I would love to know what you come up with b/c I am looking for much the same. Blood Rose did not work for me at all. Far too juicy. I like my roses a bit on the drier side of things. I should probably get a hold of an imp of Zombi. As far as haunting and Victorian, I kind of find Dorian that way. Haunting in a whistful way, though. Not a boo ha ha type of feel. Share this post Link to post
Galen Report post Posted September 22, 2005 for dark vampiric rose, I do have to echo shelldoo's recommendation of Black Rose - it's beautiful and the only rose so far that's been a keeper for me (even Desire & Rose Red have been previously swapped out before I hunted more down; they still don't get worn very often though...) Orodemniades Report post Posted September 22, 2005 Othello is lovely, but darker, for sure. Oro Share this post Link to post
Lady Ravenglass Report post Posted September 22, 2005 Oooh! I forgot Black Rose, and I have a 5ml! It's ever so slightly powdery on me, but I had an odd r'ship with 'gothic' scents, sadly. It's certainly dark though. As for Othello - I keep forgetting it has roses, as it's my partner's sig scent and he doesn't really scream 'rose'. It is rosey, and spicey and delicious though. Not sure it would be vampiric, but it's an almost edible rose. Share this post Link to post
olympia301 Report post Posted September 22, 2005 I really recommend London for all your rose needs. This is a classic rose scent with no break in period or getting used to it. Just smell and fall in love. Mmmmm. I like to mix it with deSade to bring out the classical combo of leather and roses, but it's excellent straight out of the bottle and as an amping mechanism it can't be beat. London has spoiled me for all other rose blends. You might try 2,5, & 7 as well. Billions and billions of roses. Try snagging an imp on the swaps. Dark vampire roses? Well, I haven't found that one to the tee, but I would recommend Whip, which is also roses and leather but the roses are totally different. While you are at it, try Alice. Sweet and girlish with a hint of roses cream and tea, Alice is a true beauty. Victorian scents, the one that really hit me as being the quintessential Victorian scent was Desdemona. Why? Just does. Made me think of The Memoirs of Frank Harris (classical literature at its pornographic best, m'dear). Buttttt the Victorians adored violets, and Beth has a parade of gorgeous violet scents to choose from. Marie!!!!!!-Roses and violets! Try it, it is immensely beautiful. May I heartily recommend the Mighty Search Engine for all of your requirements? The one on the Lab's website is awesome and so useful, I would have been utterly lost without it. Hunt for notes you are wanting, you will get a listing of them (don't forget to try the Advanced Search feature...it's the schnitz). You will get the listing and each name is a link to the reviews so that you can get a clearer picture if it's for you. Then use the Mighty Search Engine on this forum to find a swapper or seller who has an imp for you. This is the most efficient way of making up your mind. ---->Try bookmarking the page on the Lab's website and clicking on that shortcut to quickly look up any blends that are mentioned in passing and look them up real quick. That has saved me hours of unremunerated toil. Many many thanks to Quantum Spice for making the search engines happen. Good luck, this is a fine obsession. Share this post Link to post
puck_nc Report post Posted November 5, 2005 I'm a huge fan of roses and have been slowly working my way through every BPAL with a rose component that I can get to. My current top five BPAL rose scents are: (1) Two Five & Seven: this is for the days when I want a burst of roses, all in full bloom as if I'm walking through a garden of them. (2) Moon Rose: this is a very gentle rose, for days when I don't want a strong perfume. (3) Ace of Hearts: a hint of spice and pepper make this one a nice going-out blend for me. (4) Rakshasa: with the sandalwood & patchouli, this is my get-in-the-mood blend. (5) Rose Red: this is a special-occasion scent for when I want something fresh and clean. Share this post Link to post
SpinnyRoses Report post Posted February 22, 2006 While my skin completely eats rose scents, my mother's skin loves them. And good thing is she loves rose scents as well! So to keep her from stealing my imp of Whip (and to make a lovely birthday present for her), I'm thinking about getting her an imp of Whip and five other rose scents. Does anyone have suggestions for imps I can get for her? Share this post Link to post
