Monster Report post Posted October 17, 2006 (edited) Bourbon blackberry buttercream over red velvet cake. I LOVE THIS ONE! (just had to get that out of the way ) I'm already halfway through this bottle....I WILL need to find some additional bottles ASAP.This one is heavy on the buttercream and bourbon right out of the bottle, but on my skin this turns into a yummy, delicious birthday cake (and a very grown up, decadant birthday cake it is!)Whenever I wear this I get a ton of compliments and can't help sniffing and wanting to take a bite out of my own wrist. This is a foody, sweet blend without smelling obnoxious and sickining (*cough* Gluttony or Sugar Skull..ack!)Yum yum! This has become one of my regular every day scents. LOVE IT!! Edited September 28, 2007 by Shollin
sofiaviolet Report post Posted October 28, 2006 This smells like blackberry yogurt. Seriously, I eat a lot of it, I know what it smells like. (Yogurt, not MB: Closet.) I'm very amused and slightly bemused, but foody scents all go to "burnt" on my skin and that's just ew.
metaldog32 Report post Posted November 25, 2006 (edited) Monsterbait:Closet.... This came to me compliments of my sis..and even though she is the foody gal when it comes to scents..the blackberry was intriguing..I do like blackberries in general..but I have never worn a scent with blackberry..I was willing to try. So..I have been wearing for three days and here is what I came up with: Initial sniff from bottle: Sweet....sweetness...something boozy too...and the blackberry. Hmm...I kind of get a blackberry schnapps flashback and that isn't a comforting one..must be the bourbon blackberry. I also get a decidedly "buttercream" waft as well..which in tandem with the boozy blackberry kind of makes my stomach unsettled..but I figured now is not the time to jump ship..one must ride out the rough waters... Applied wet on skin: ....not liking this right now. It's still the boozy blackberry schnapps note on me..with that underlying buttercream frosting note..as much as I kind of like buttercream frosting..it's just not making me feel all warm and snuggly with the blackberry and bourbon. Darn. I will wait it out though..even though at this point this combo isn't winning points with me. It's all about being patient. Couple of minutes on skin: Argh...it's still the boozy blackberrry schnapps party on my skin..being loud and obnoxious..even the buttercream decided to take a powder..and the red velevet cake??? It's hiding in the coat room..until it's safe to get on the dance floor..this boozy blackberry has scared everyone off... Ten minutes on skin: Finally..the boozy blackberry has softened..and now I get more of the red velvet cake/buttercream duo..which isn't bad..but unfortunately isn't great either because my stupid body chemistry makes the boozy blackberry notes amp. It's not bad at this stage..I kind of can appreciate the concept..but on my skin it's just a bit...jarring. I wish it was better..but I keep waiting... Thirty minutes to an hour: Ahhh...it's softened up again considerably..with more the sweet red velvet cake now..but I still have the bourbon/blackberry there..as usual..weaving in and out. I don't know if I have become accustomed to it..but it's not as offensive as before..however I am still not totally enamored. I..I tolerate it. Two hours plus+:Sweet red vevet cake..with the hint of fruit. Foody. Drydown: Same notes... Lasting power is about 3-4+ hours..with the throw soft to average. Bottom Line: Not my favorite-Monsterbait:Closet is definitely foody, definitely boozy and definitely sweet. A bit too sweet and a touch cloying for my tastes..but I can see it being a hit for fans of the gourmand. I think it would work well in fall and winter. If only the boozy blackberry had translated a bit better on my skin- ....oh well. Edited November 25, 2006 by metaldog32

emzebel Report post Posted November 27, 2006 Very very sweet - sweet booze, sweet berries, sweet cake, sweet icing. While I really wanted to love this, it is just too much sugar for me and makes my teeth itch.
eanewsom Report post Posted December 4, 2006 Wow- this one is so good I feel like gnawing my wrists. I haven't been that crazy about the other blackberry scents I've gotten, partly because they didn't really smell like blackberries. Closet smells just like the fruit, plus nummy cake (I've never had red velvet, but now I have to try it) and luscious, creamy buttery-sweetness. After smelling this one I definitely have to hunt down the other two monster baits.
maijasu Report post Posted December 7, 2006 What a sugar rush! I smell the berries, the buttercream, and the cake, in that order. I'm glad to have gotten the chance to try this, although I doubt I'll reach for it regularly.
mtlaise Report post Posted December 12, 2006 This is a little weird for me, because I tested this without seeing the notes, but I swear, I smelled currants! I guess it's the blackberry note, but I've never seen one note trick my senses so badly I was sure it was something else. At any rate, I do like it at this stage; it would be a nice, light, fruity summer scent. Unfortunately, 5 minutes later, it was gone... and I don't mean that the throw had diminished: I mean that with my nose touching my wrist, I couldn't even detect where I had applied it... so unfortunate... talula_fairie Report post Posted December 27, 2006 I suspect I'd like this scent if it were not for the blackberry note, which I did not care for. Otherwise, it's a very nice warm, food-y, creamy scent.
Deiicide Report post Posted January 5, 2007 The blackberry note tends to overpower everything and turn it almost into a blackberry single note with the slightest hint of buttercream and booze. Thankfully it fades but not after a half an hour so expect to have a lot of throw when you first apply. The cake seems to add a spicy element to the blend making it almost a berry incense. Definately delish, I'll be coveting my bottle.
little_galaxie Report post Posted February 7, 2007 Mmm, this goes up there with Eat Me and Cockaigne as my favorite foodie scent. On me, I get equal amounts of berries and cake, as if the ripe, sweet berries themselves were baked INTO the cake but somehow retained their perfect plump juiciness It encompasses everything a foodie scent should be: a little tart, a little sweet, rich and dry at the same time, thick but not overwhelming. One of my favorites!
wikkidraven Report post Posted February 17, 2007 while i always have high hopes for the true foody scents...for some reason they go sour on my skin sometimes. this is another case of that...sour, and almost burnt blackberries and booze. not pleasant. tarotgirl99 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 I didn't expect to like this at all...my amiga MoonArcana sent me half an imp and I tried it today. It started off kinda caramel, then became the tartest caramel apple ever. Intriguing. I want more.
AliceNWonderland Report post Posted February 21, 2007 I LOVE this, I get a boozy blackberry cream cheese from this. Once it dries down I smell more of the cake. It took a couple tries but now this is one of my top 10!!!!
lightgatherer Report post Posted March 9, 2007 Mmm, berry! I don't get blackberry in specific from this - more of a generic berry scent. The bourbon and the buttercream start to rise up and make a mild appearance later in wear. Ends up melding into a generalized sweet scent with berry hints at the end. I like what I smelled of this, but the smell seemed to die off quickly. I'll try applying more next time to see if that helps with throw or duration.
Deanalouise Report post Posted May 14, 2007 When the monster baits came out I had such HIGH HIGH hopes for them to work with my skin chemistry. In the bottle, this smells delicious edible almost. When applied to my skin, the blackberry completely takes over this scent. It is so sharp that I cannot smell any of the creamy cake. I hoped the blackberry would fade and let the creamy cake come forward but this scent stayed sharp on my skin. I had to wash it off I have come to learn that blackberry and I have a bad relationship. DangerInRed Report post Posted May 17, 2007 Mmm, I wish this wasn't so rare! The scent is pretty true to the description. On me, the blackberry is lighter than the cake, leaving me smelling vanilla-cakey with a hint of tart, fruity blackberry. The only thing I don't smell is the bourbon, although my nose is not as finely-tuned as some. This was a very light scent in the imp, but is considerably stronger when applied to the skin. I'm giving this an A+ and will attempt to hunt for a bottle.
vegasblueblood Report post Posted May 17, 2007 This is one of my favorite BPAL scents and it is so overwhelmingly delicious. Fury_grrl gave me an imp of it and I loved it so much that she generously gave me her whole bottle one night! This is all blackberry buttercream cake on me and it is almost lickable. In the bottle, it's a sharp blackberry but on me, as it dries, all that yummy creamy buttercream scent emerges and I'm in love.
elenore Report post Posted May 25, 2007 When I got this I was a little overexcited, having not recieved any imps in a while, so I barely smelled it in the bottle before putting it on. Instantly got a sweet whiff of cake. Held wrist over SO's nose exclaiming, "Smell this! It smells like CAKE!" He smelled cherries. I put it back to my nose and sure enough, there was fruitiness starting to come up under the cake! After a minute it smelled like cake with the gloopy frosting and fruit in the middle. YUM! OMG I LOVE this! Drydown it gets a little fruitier and the sweetness calms down, it gets a little more tarty. Some vanilla comes out. Yumyumyum! I'm such a sucker for the foody scents, particularly if they smell like dessert...
Carmencita Report post Posted May 25, 2007 It seems like every time I get a bottle of something, I fall so in love with it that I totally forget I should review it. Maybe it's my subconscious not wanting to give things a good review because then others will be tempted to love it and it will be harder for me to get, particularly since this is an LE. In the vial: Just as the description says, blackberry and red velvet cake on me: red velvet cake, creamy buttercream frosting, and all sorts of dark, ripe berries. later: It makes me smell like cake, deepened by something that makes it smell gorgeous specifically, not just I-only-just-now-stepped-out-of-the-bakery good. It's a little more sophisticated than that.
Nidaba Report post Posted June 6, 2007 I just received a decant of this in a swap with the fantastic Cranberry and I am so glad I did. Wet: This starts out very sweet and cakey with a touch of tart. I love it already. Dry: Oh my god, I want to eat my arm. This is making me so hungry. It reminds me a bit of Cold Stone's Cake batter ice cream. It is the scent of sugary, thick yellow cake with vanilla in it and cream cheese icing with berries in it. This is divine. 5/5 for sure
Naamah_Darling Report post Posted June 8, 2007 (edited) Two word review: Food porn. Ahem. This is sexy cream and cocoa, smooth whiskey sauce on bread pudding, with a whiff of sweet, sticky fruit. I cannot overemphasize how much I want to drink this right out of the bottle. Since I know that's a bad, bad idea, I'll just have to roll in it, instead. The bourbon is stronger once it goes on, and the blackberry is right out front, tart and tangy. Oh, god, the throw of this one is like the smell of the world's best pastry chef concocting the ultimate dessert right in the other room. If temptation had a smell, this would be it. It is very sweet, but the whiskey sauce and blackberry keep this from being too sweet. It's not as sweet as Underbed, not as foody. I don't like it quite as well, but that's splitting a very fine hair. Edited June 8, 2007 by Naamah_Darling
LadyCrow Report post Posted June 18, 2007 In the imp: Blackberry booze and cake. Sounds like a fun night to me! Wet: Sharp, tangy blackb... black... black cat pee. I applied this in a very small spot to one of the pulses on the back of one hand, having read the reviews that basically indicated that this could either be wonderful or go ghastly. Unfortunately, I am in the latter minority. Did I just change the friggin' litterbox or what? Somewhere, Bastet is laughing... but unlike the TAL of that name, she's not laughing with me, she's laughing at me. Off to wash my hands now. Vigorously. TheIceMaiden Report post Posted July 3, 2007 I had a chance to try Closet today. This starts out blackberries in buttercream with a hint of cake (non-buttery cake, thank goodness) behind it. As it dries, the buttercream and cake fade out and its sugared blackberries. The final stage reminds me Bloody Mary but with blackberry of course. This is a nice scent, I'm glad I got a chance to try it.
mawaridi Report post Posted July 14, 2007 I really can't smell the blackberries in this one. To me, it reminds me of two food memories. One is getting neopolitain ice-cream (you know, strawberry, vanilla and chocolate all in the one tub) and mixing them together. The other is pouring baileys irish cream liqueur ver ice-cream. Mmm. I guess the strawberryish part of the ice-cream could be coming from the tart-fruitiness of the blackberries. But to my nose, this is irish cream poured over neopolitain ice-cream, and it's delicious
